"don't the great tales ever end?"
The endless carry over from the ancient history of Middle Earth (Silmarillion etc) to the last place Tolkien brings us in the story of the lands is always mind-blowing. You always find something new that's actually very old and some other connection to the past.
The fact that Frodo and Sam using the phial of Galadriel to fight Shelob is just a continuation of the story of the Silmarils. For Shelob's mother was Ungoliant who poisoned the trees, the trees whose light was held in the Silmarils. The light that ended up in the sky on Earendil's ship. The light of Earendil that is in the phial used to ward off the child of the monster that slew the trees.
The sword that smites the Balrog of Moria is found by chance in a troll hoard. But it was forged in Gondolin when Balrogs were much more of a concern. Any lesser sword would have failed to slay the Balrog.
Just like any lesser dagger than Sting would have failed to wound Shelob and cut through her webs.
There's dozens of moments like this throughout the works of Tolkien where the pattern of history in his world weaves in an essential piece from the past of his world. The great tales never truly end.

In the Silmarillion it's said that "Turgon sent forth all his people, even to a third part of the Noldor of Fingolfin's following, and a yet greater host of the Sindar."
That's a lot of Elves. A lot of people to disappear and for "none knew whither they had gone." Turgon really just spirited them all away and hid them from the world for *checks notes* as long as he possibly could.

Broke: Gondolin was a serious, conservative, prudish city.
Woke: The Gondolindrim were stuck in one city for 400-ish years with no Morgoth threatening them and basically nothing do to. If anyone in Middle-Earth was entertaining themselves with festivals and ragers, it was them. We're talking drunken moshpits, people getting thrown into fountains, endless romantic intrigue between most of the Lords, the whole nine yards.
Bespoke: The Gondolindrim were party animals but they all agreed that what happens in Gondolin stays in Gondolin and never talked about the parties after the fall; which is why Gondolin gets a reputation for being so serious and boring. Most of the Gondolindrim, and especially Turgon, think this is hilarious.

My favourite thing about Turgon are the seven increasingly spectacular gates he built along the entrance to his city that no one’s supposed to find anyway.

"But Maeglin prospered and grew great among the Gondolindrim, praised by all, and high in the favour of Turgon; for if he would learn eagerly and swiftly all that he might, he had much also to teach."

Lord of the Fountains; Ecthelion & Lord of the House of the Golden Flower; Laurefindelë

Ægthelion & Glorfindel; Warden of the Great Gate and Chief of the Golden Flower.
First day of not having school!! Celebrated by drawing these two creatures in armor and battle hair😌😌
One of them likes ornaments a little more than practicality, the other likes sharp objects. Both die.

Raw sketch of Glorfindel. The helmet totally inspired by Alan Lee's illustration. The armor piece was inspired by flower petals, I think it looks ugly. But however this is just the beginning, I'm still trying to invent a more believable-looking armor. More updates soon

Ahhh first post on Tumblr (*nervous chuckles*), a Glorthelion fan art for one of my favorite talented writers @a-tehta !
After reading the amazing fic "Sparring" on my bday (yes I'm the same birthday girl in the comment lol), I just couldn't stop imagining their first night on the ship & how great it would feel again to be able to snuggle together after centuries separation😍! So I just have to draw it down (*chuckles again*)
