Broke: Gondolin was a serious, conservative, prudish city.
Woke: The Gondolindrim were stuck in one city for 400-ish years with no Morgoth threatening them and basically nothing do to. If anyone in Middle-Earth was entertaining themselves with festivals and ragers, it was them. We're talking drunken moshpits, people getting thrown into fountains, endless romantic intrigue between most of the Lords, the whole nine yards.
Bespoke: The Gondolindrim were party animals but they all agreed that what happens in Gondolin stays in Gondolin and never talked about the parties after the fall; which is why Gondolin gets a reputation for being so serious and boring. Most of the Gondolindrim, and especially Turgon, think this is hilarious.

Spiderwort in Beleriand
Continuing my flower world building from last year where I do flower related world building! More in the spring flower game tag! This was a request from last year I believe from @aronoiiel 🪻🪻
Let me know if there are more areas you want me to cover!
Spiderwort is a genus of eighty five wildflowers that can be found in a variety of subtropical and temperate habitats, most commonly thin deciduous woodland, meadows and prairies. Beleriand (and the eastern lands beyond the Ered Luin) likely contain dozens of species though not all of them are considered to be in the same category.
Tradescantia longipes is sometimes called wild crocus though it is not closely related to crocuses. It’s a deep purple flower growing low to the ground and in rock gardens. I imagine it can be found in Gondolin near walls and in parts of the mountains, perhaps becoming one of the symbols of the founding of the city
The zigzag spiderwort is a light blue purple flower with three petals. It grows in the region of Nargothrond and its name in the region likely would be related to the word helin which describes pansies and other flowers of a similar color.
The prairie spiderwort is a vibrant purple flower that can be found in southern Beleriand around the Andram. It’s a favorite of the Avarin groups that live there and is referenced in poetry and song
Several species of spiderwort have flowers that bloom for only a day. I imagine these are considered to be of special significance in Sindarin and Noldorin cultures in Beleriand, especially in Doriath and Barad Eithel, perhaps being used to represent impermanence or ephemera. There is also likely a word for flowers of this kind, just as there is a canon word for flower that opened and shut quickly with any change of light. My suggestion for this is erlosta, a Quenya neologism I created meaning once blooming though this is imperfect

All these gentlemen were drawn as part of the Gondolin Gang series for intea (my deep gratitude for this opportunity and inspiration ♥). Of course I will draw the remaining two, but now I want to show the finished ones 😃
I tried to draw different but stylistically similar and simple outfits, hairstyles and faces, so that one could believe that they live at the same time and in the same place, being in an everyday (medieval) environment - most of them had small bags for small things and clothes whose fit is regulated by a belt and not by patterns.
Egalmot got the most complex background - there's a cat there, did you see it? 🐈
Who do you like the most and who has the coolest handbag? 🙂👀

Morgoth has apparently decided that the very best - and only - time for big attacks is during parties. The Valar had a big party when he destroyed the lamps while they were busy celebrating, then the Valar had again a big party with the Elves when the trees came down, and Gondolin of course was attacked during the Gates of Summer. I wonder if it maybe was Fingolfin's birthday party during the battle of sudden flame.

turgon, king of gondolin.
POV: you’re celebrimbor explaining why you’d be a wonderful asset to the city the king would rather chew his own arm off than let you reside in.

My favourite thing about Turgon are the seven increasingly spectacular gates he built along the entrance to his city that no one’s supposed to find anyway.

Maeglin didn't do good things, yes okay. But my heart still breaks because "Melko wove about him the spell of bottomless dread, and he had thereafter neither joy nor quiet in his heart."
like no one deserves that. no one. what does bottomless dread truly even mean? poor bby. melkor didn't need to corrupt him, maeglin was doing a good job of it himself, but he did anyway.
it's just so sad.

"But Maeglin prospered and grew great among the Gondolindrim, praised by all, and high in the favour of Turgon; for if he would learn eagerly and swiftly all that he might, he had much also to teach."
