I read this book for school and it is actually very good. It's a Slovenian book called "In ljubezen tudi" (in English, it's "And Love Itself") by Drago Jančar. (It's named after Byron's poem, btw)

I would try to explain what it's about, but here.

Basically, war. And how love was in the time of war. If it can survive everything. And how people acted in that time. Set in current Slovenian territory.

(There is some poetry from famous authors.)

It doesn't even portray one side as better than the other. It just describes how it was. Raw and all. Very nicely written.

I feel like it could get a lot of fans if it was more known (I want fanfiction).

I read it in Slovenian, so I can't say how good the English version is, but I can confidently say that the Slovenian one is great. The writing is good and understandable and it doesn't feel awkward or weird. Although you have to know some basic German sometimes, but I mean, you can always just translate some phrases (there aren't a lot of them).
