Happening in Mikkeli!
Dinosaurock, which started in 1987, and Jurassic Rock, which began in 2007, are getting a successor. Dinosaurock comes to Visulahti, Mikkeli, from August 15 to 16, 2025.
The first 12 artists to be announced for the festival have now been revealed. The lineup includes names like Joker Out, Ismo Alanko, Sexmane, Stam1na, Etta, Sara Siipola, Irina, Eevil Stöö, and Mikkeli-based BRHG. Additional programmes will be revealed soon.
The band, which rose to international fame with their song Carpe Diem in last year's Eurovision Song Contest, visited Finland for the first time in 2023. Joker Out performed to sold-out audiences at Olympia, Tampere, at Logomo, Turku, and at two shows at the Tavastia Club, Helsinki. The tickets were sold out in no time. The band performed at Tavastia¹ in the early 2024.

Dinosaurock of Visulahti makes a comeback next summer - organising the festival are Jurassic veteran Mikko Jokipii and Jonna Vuolle from Mikkeli
Original article writte by Anssi Mehtälä for Mikkelin Kaupunkilehti, published 19.11.2024.
A dream had for many years of many live music lovers in Mikkeli is about to come true next summer, on on the 15th and 16th of August to be precise.
Mikkeli will then once again host a rock festival, and in what many even consider to be the only right venue too, Visulahti Travel Center.
On Friday and Saturday, around a dozen domestic and foreign artists will perform in Visulahti, of which about half will be announced at this stage.
Among others, Stam1na, Ismo Alanko, Bloodred Hourglass, Sexmane, Irina, Saimaa, Mokoma, Etta and Eevil Stöö will be coming to Visulahti.
One international guest has been confirmed so far: Joker Out, the Slovenian indie rock band that made a name for themselves at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023.
The band has since visited Finland, performing for instance twice at the Tavastia club in Helsinki and at Ruisrock last summer.
“We are still looking for two or three international performers. The essential thing is that they'll strengthen the festival's repertoire” says Mikko Jokipii, one of the festival's creators.
The festival carries a name that can only be described as legendary, Dinosaurock.
The organiser is a joint-stock company of the same name, founded this autumn and backed by Jurassic Rock's long-time background figure Mikko Jokipii, who is also a film producer, Jonna Vuolle from Mikkeli, and Mikko Linnansaari, who has extensive experience in festival production.
“Our goal is to create a great event for the people of Mikkeli, a celebration of life and joy. It will be a medium-sized rock festival with lots of fun things to do.”
“As a Mikkeli resident, I feel really great to be able to create an event like this with great professionals” festival's producer Vuolle sums up.
“There has been a tremendous amount of positivity about this everywhere.
Let's take a look at the festival history of Mikkeli.
Dinosaurock was a festival organised by the live music association Melmu in Visulahti between 1987 and 1990. It revolutionised Finnish festival culture with its high quality, diverse lineup and relaxed atmosphere.
The Jurassic Rock festival, on the other hand, was held from 2007 to 2018, first in Visulahti and then in Kenkävero.
The new Dinosaurock can be seen as a continuation of the work of Jurassic Rock, which many still fondly remember. So why the name Dinosaurock?
“Dinosaurock is the original rock festival from Mikkeli. We want to honour that, it simply felt better to return to that name” explains Jokipii.
“Additionally, the name Jurassic Rock is now owned by Sanoma Group. It’s better that it stays there” Vuolle adds.
“In any case, our Dinosaurock aims to be liked by both Dinosaurock and Jurassic Rock visitors” Jokipii sums up.
The two-day event is being built in line with its predecessors, as a warm-hearted event.
“Visulahti has always been important to me. It was the number one aspect of Jurassic Rock and once the venue was moved to Kenkävero, the event wasn’t the same for me anymore” Jokipii says.
Visulahti will have two stages, a bigger and a smaller one.
“The planning of the festival area is already underway. Now we are scouting the best possible locations for the stages and other infrastructure” Jokipii says.
Services will cater to even the most demanding audience.
“The time has changed quite a lot since the early years of Jurassic Rock when it comes to festival services. At the same time, the customer expectations have risen regarding the quality of food and drink sales, accessibility, and VIP services. We are working hard on these aspects in collaboration with Visulahti” Jokipii reveals.
The organisers are pleased with the reception the festival project has received. The preparations were started well in advance.
“At the beginning of summer 2023, I was in contact with Mikko for the first time, when I got the idea of organising a music event in Mikkeli.”
“Due to Mikko having a busy schedule with films, the idea was left to simmer and the serious planning of Dinosaurock began this spring with the first meetings in Mikkeli” Vuolle explains.
“It feels like Mikkeli’s music scene now has a space for at least an event of this size” Jokipii describes.
“People everywhere have been incredibly positive about it. Ticket buyers, concert organisers, bands, everyone has been totally like, “Yeah!” And yes, the word ‘legendary’ has come up quite a few times” Vuolle laughs.
This positive reception has also convinced the organisers that the project is worth pursuing.
“If the feedback had been more along the lines of ‘meh, I’m not sure’, we probably wouldn’t even be talking about Dinosaurock right now” Vuolle says.

Next summer, the organisers of Dinosaurock expect to attract approximately 5000 people per day.
“It’s a modest goal. But we want to create an event that grows sustainably, if it grows, and that it can be organised practically, repeatedly, and every year” Vuolle notes.
“The program is curated so that every performer matters. And, of course so that the selection is diverse and interesting” she concludes
Dinosaurock’s ‘Aikainen Lisko’ (early lizard) tickets are now on sale today, November 19, 2024. A limited number of tickers are available here.

Can I just say how happy it makes me that Bojan basically shouted out non-binary people in the radio Center interview? 🥹 I don't think people from countries west of Slovenia realise how little understanding there is in Slovene society of what it means to be non-binary (or even that non-binary people are a thing that exists). So for a band that's as well-known in Slovenia as Joker Out is atm to point out that there aren't only "girls" at their shows, but guys and non-binary people as well... Idk, but to me, as a Slovenian, that's huge. I love Joker Out so much, I can't believe such a band came from my country. 🥺🥺
(I could also go on a rant how annoyed I am at the constant heteronormativity from interviewers who cannot shut up about "girls," but that's a topic for another day.)
Also, decided to write this in English so everyone can read it.
Hello and thank you for this ask (Hvala 🙏) I'll answer in English as well, so it reaches a wider audience because the topic is important and I had the exact same thoughts, and it was also one of the reasons why I insisted that we translate this whole thing, because I know that this specific mention is just SO important for non-binary people, because it's literally so rare that non-binary people are even mentioned in Slovene mass media! 😭
And, of course, in addition pointing out (and basically calling the interviewer out for heteronormative language by doing so) that it's not just girls singing (ugh, it's really frustrating when they use this language, I completely understand you!). Bojan is honestly so based for that answer, and a real green flag! 💗
Here's the full answer in context:
And you can of course find the whole Hitradio Center interview translated by @jokeroutsubs here on YouTube :)

Hi Joker Out Tumblr!
I’m not very active here but after seeing all the comments regarding the recent JokerOutSubs interview in London I had to respond.
I was the one who went to go and interview them in London and the response over the last couple of days has been incredibly emotional, and incredibly overwhelming, so firstly, thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for making me so indescribably happy. Seeing people say that they felt safe watching this interview, and that it’s going to be a comfort video for them, actually brought me to tears on a number of occasions.
I wanted to respond to a few comments that I’ve seen. The questions were mostly devised by me and @alephai . When we were perfecting the questions and going over ways we could make them as respectful as possible, she suggested that we ask permission from Bojan before jumping into personal questions about his anxiety. I immediately agreed and I’m so glad we insisted on keeping it in, even as the questions went through several redrafts. We are both strong advocates of mental health acceptance, and I certainly understand on a personal level how challenging it can be to talk about. We wanted to make sure he had the opportunity to not talk about it, if he didn’t want to, and we were prepared for multiple scenarios.
We also decided right from the beginning that we didn’t want to put our own interpretations on the band. We wanted to frame the questions so they could answer anything they wanted to them, and make it clear that we’re not trying to sensationalise or find some kind of clickbaity quote. A looooot of thought, time and effort went into the questions and we think that the band could sense that there was a lot of love, respect, and genuine admiration for what they do in them. We’re really glad everyone else noticed it too!
We were also really mindful that the questions flowed neatly into one another - for instance, the questions about Bojan’s anxiety got steadily less personal and lighter so it would move smoothly into the questions about music. Again I’ve seen loads of comments about this and it’s so validating to see that the hard work put in was noticed.
We were extremely mindful of appropriate boundaries, and kept the knowledge that we’re ultimately strangers to them front and centre. The main goal on the day was to be as professional as possible. I’m genuinely so happy that they felt relaxed and comfortable enough to open up. I’m glad to say there was never a moment in the room where there was any tension, it truly felt like having a chat with friends! Afterwards, Bojan asked me if I were a professional journalist (which I am not) and it really made me incredibly happy. They are all absolutely sweethearts and some of the warmest, kindest people I’ve had the pleasure to spend an hour with.
The aftermath of the interview was one of the most intense weeks of my life and I have to shout out to every member of @jokeroutsubs who worked on this one. The dedication I saw from the subtitles, translators and video editors was insane. Lots of conversations at mad hours of the morning trying to get this out to the highest possible quality, and I am, as ever, bowled over by the JOS team. To say that joining up with them has been life changing is an absolute understatement, and I’m glad to say that through JOS I’ve met a series of women without whom I can no longer imagine my life. Strong, intelligent women from all over Europe who I now consider to be my sisters, and whom I love incredibly dearly.
I have to mention the message at the end of the interview. This was the product of many months of conversation about the impact of Joker Out on Slovene society between me and several members of the slo team, something that it’s been amazing to learn about from the perspective of an English girl, and we’re so glad we had an opportunity to tell them. Massive thank you again for all the voice notes I was sent to help me practice my pronunciation. I wanted to make sure it was as good as I could possibly manage to show my respect for the Slovenian people, language and culture.
Lastly I wanted to say thank you for all the messages I’ve received complimenting me on this interview. Credit in this case has to be shared between so many people. It was truly a team effort and I’m just so happy I could contribute in giving something back to a band I love and admire, and a community that embraced me with open arms during a difficult time in my life.
I love you all, and thank you all for your wonderful words. X

"Host: Cool. How do you act if you see one girl somewhere and you like her?
Bojan: I usually try to find out who the girl is as quickly as possible, then sneak into some of the places where she's hanging around, you know? "

Slovenian Philharmonic (Slovenska filharmonija)
It is the white building in the background, right behind Nace. Check out its history here. And the website.
Ljubljana City Museum (Mestni muzej Ljubljana)
Kris is standing in the first room of the City Museum. That room is a display of the people of Ljubljana, both famous and everyday residents. Right now there is a temporary exhibition about the LGBT movement in Ljubljana called Spaces of Movement. Check out their website. Tomaž Mihelič's dress from when Sestre were at Eurovision is in it.
Ljubljana's Central Farmer's Market (Centralna tržnica)
Jure is at Ljubljana's Central Farmer's Market which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Check out the Wikipedia page.
Tivoli Park
This is the largest park in Ljubljana. Check out all the beautiful things you can see in this park here. Nace is here with Pino.
Bojan and Kris' street shot.
Bojan is riding past the high school for music and ballet (srednja glasbena in baletna šola), located next to Križanke. The white obelisk you see in Kris' shot is Napoleonov spomenik, a monument built for Napoleon in 1929.
Jan's shots
Jan is visiting the record store SpinVinyl, next to the Ljubljanica river, near the Café Romeo.
Jan is at Kino Šiška, which houses the Centre for Urban Culture and which doubles as a concert hall. Check out its story here.
Tabor's Court (Športno društvo Tabor)
Bojan is playing basketball at Tabor's Court.
From there you can spot also the church from Katrina's music video!
Ring making at the Rog Centre (Center Rog)
The boys are at Rog Centre, which is a production space where you can create things with your hands. There they organise different workshops for children and adults alike! It was controversial upon its opening due to the removal of a previous artistic space, and saw several protests. Check out their info page and their programme page.

Stozice
Sorry for not posting so much, life has been busy. But Stozice (my keyboard doesn’t offer the little thing on the z) yesterday was amazing. I was watching from the joker.out.subs. Livestream and it was amazing. I am so happy to be part of this fandom and proud of how far the boys have come even though this adventure is only just starting for me. I can’t wait to see them in December, but until them this is filling my joker out needs. Unforgettable experience.
