The best Bloodborne Wiki is a passion project of a single person, is about to get even better + how it can be sustained for years to come!

Hello guys! So like many of you've learned from the post with super good model view of Winter Lantern, recently, on Twitter, Meph announced ( x ) the plan to fill the wiki with very useful, very comprehensive screenshots of the models for bosses, enemies, NPCs and even cut content! The wiki has already been a huge help for lorediggers and artists, but THIS is what we will get:

This page is for Lady Maria and you can check it yourself here: ( x )! It is broken down in the categories of general close-ups of her model, then very high-quality screenshots of every attack during her boss battle and walking, and then raw model!

(I never was able to capture a good look at her using Arcane too like here, for example!)

Winter Lantern page ( x ) is using similar principle!

This is not a secret that very often in Fromsoft games, additional information can be obtained not through descriptions but through visual hints! For example, some people only learned that Winter Lantern's head is made of melted Messengers only now, after a proper look at her model! So, of course getting a proper look at every single character and creature from the game could always be helpful!

This, however, is just a recent highlight for this Bloodborne Wiki! Even prior that, it has been providing invaluable help for the fans! Examples off the top of my head: comprehensive data on what character has what items used or not, great and comprehensive hints and tutorials on upgrades and farming and builds for the players, making every bit of information on Chalice Dungeons and glyphs easily accessible, making datamined NPC sliders of all characters way more accessible and easy to grab and repeat, access to much more obscure models (like Gratia's model), full list of internal filenames and patches progress, making information from physical Bloodborne tutorial book accessible...

There are probably more things to cover that me and others found a great help in, and sometimes we might not even notice! I am sure many people could name at least one way where this wiki has been very helpful, offering raw facts and 100% valid information (and properly sourced whenever someone else helped!) without any speculating, in the most elaborate manner! We should not take it for granted because all this information, found or reshared, was compiled by just one guy out of raw passion for the game! And although this project is not profit-based and Meph is willing to commit to it and pay as much as needed to keep it living, I really still wanted to share the Ko-fi link that exists for anyone who is willing to help sponsoring it!

This is not necessary, and Meph has stated the same, but this project is not only helpful but also really hefty to sustain. The monthly support is only $3 per month, but every little bit not only helps the sustenance, but also knowing how much fans care and simply feeling their support is very significant and sometimes you don't even know how much. Heck, when Meph learned how excited people on Tumblr were about Wiki improving with full compilation of models from every angle.. the reaction was "I am so glad that people still care"! I think everyone who does their best to be useful for the fellow fans needs confirmation that they ARE, for sure, helping!

I just really wanted to get the word out anyways because honestly, none of my super elaborate theories and detailed fanart would've been possible without Meph's Wiki. and also because I am trapped in a clown country where I can't send any international money transfer so the feeling of 'do what I can't' got to me too fsdhfdhs There is no pressure or necessity, but here is the link to anyone who can help and feels the wish to! January and February dump

This is my most recent work of Lloyd, and my most recent work in general. I made this in the computer room at school with a painful high-sensitive mouse. We have these special course thing in our junior high, so every tuesday after class, I get to be in the computer room. For six hours... (My course is Visual Graphics Design. I'm kinda regretting it now since I've been thinking of becoming an architect... I can't change my course now since it's too late. Which is stupid.)

I'll try to draw more there! I really like drawing with a mouse cause I like the challenge. And since I'm not accustomed to a high-sensitive mouse, it'll be a bigger challenge for me!

I made these two in traditional then polished them digitally since I straight up just used a pen. I rarely use a pencil nowadays so I can learn to fix mistakes without erasing it. Usually it ends up looking like chicken scratch but I'm getting better.

My Harumi one is so bad lol.. When I was making it, my classmates around me were messing around and moving the chairs in the process, making me have to draw strokes with shaky lines. It's not that noticeable though since I made the lines thicker.

I was planning to make something for Rebooted's anniversary but I got busy... (And lazy) The PIXAL one was inspired by an animatic I saw.

If you compare the previous Arin portrait, yes, they don't look the same. I'm trying to find a look for Arin, as I do with every character, that I'll be satisfied with.

By the way, I'm kind of basing Arin's hair with my classmate's hair. Which is funny because my other classmates compared this artwork to my classmate, who looked nothing like Arin but have similar hair, commenting they're the same. (I'm not mad because I actually find this a bit humorous)

I was trying to make an animatic and this was going to be the sketch. But then again, I got busy and lazy. (Mostly lazy)

I accidentally changed their facial features a bit by accident on the second page because I forgot to reference the first page. It was tiring flipping pages every 5 seconds, ok! Also, I drew it after 2 days when I drew the first page, and I didn't have a design I liked for them yet. (...I just noticed Jay has different eye colors in both pages...)

I think I'm sticking to these looks for Lloyd. I'll try to make it accurate to this. (I think I did great with the first image of this post. Though, I made him too round for my liking.)

Discard the growing beard post redesign Lloyd has. That beard thing was supposed to be where his chin was until I realized it was too small. And it's still too small.

Child Lloyd is so cute! The eyeshadow wasn't intentional at first, but then it got me thinking, what if Lloyd had an emo phase? And now emo child Lloyd is my headcanon.

Pre redesign Lloyd kind of reminds me of TommyInnit, and I find it quite funny. Maybe it's the facial gesture, I know a lot of TommyInnit fanarts with that silly face.

For Dragons Rising Lloyd however, I want him to have long hair with his post redesign face. I'll try to make full body designs of the 4 Lloyds.

You guys probably don't care, and this is the first time you've seen me because I don't have an exact artstyle and I dont post as much, but I'm going to put descriptions now since this blog is going to be a silly little art dump! And blog posts are supposed to be descriptive. Which I should've done in the beginning and explained my works..

A while ago on Reddit I made a post where I kind of gave my opinion on the whole Percy Jackson casting thing. But to show my comment, I have to share a different post. So I'll just credit them first: I commented under Reddit user u/how-s-chrysaf-taken on a post from last year on the subject of the PJO casting. (my post was made 28-30 days ago, however). Like, I've gotten used to Annabeth being the tall, blonde girl with the curly hair, not just bc of the books but bc of all the fanart and fanfiction. No hate to any of the kids, and I'm sure they'll do a great job. It's just that after all these years I was hoping to see the characters come to life as I knew them.

(Me): I imagine it's how people who read Harry Potter before the films felt about the films changes. There may end up being people who can only visualize the characters as they were played by their actors here. Who honestly knows? All I know is, it's a subjective thing. I have a similar problem to you (being so used to the book description/design), but I see why it can be nice to let anyone play a role (and possibly play it to their interpretations, as well). I'm not sure where I'm going with this. But I know it's topic with a lot of depth and confusion to me.

So my opinion wasn't really expressed so much as I just rambled about why I think the subject is so touchy for some. It's all subjective, and a casting will always go against somebody's vision of things. It's a complex issue.

Hi! I’d like to start with the fact that your writing is PHENOMENAL, the way every first chapter is designed to grab the readers attention, with a mystery or a cozy little opening, establishing where the character is in life and their motives, or a sneak peek at the problem the characters must overcome.

I’m really bad at articulating my thoughts, but ur characters are really well written and I’d like to make more fanart of them, but I’m not quite sure what they look like.

(The only fics of your la that i KNOW you wrote are Unto Dust, and The Comfort of Agony (both of which are really good btw, I also love how you write existing characters, and your portrayal of them(especially Lucy Ann))

Anyway, because there are so many interpretations of species used in TAU, I got a little mixed up on what the non-human characters look like.

Darceus- in Lucy Ann and the Lunch Bunch, there is a Kitsune named Felicity, who is described as “looking a kind of like a human, and kind of like a fox” which my interpretation of is shown below. I forgot that that isn’t typical for kitsune characters in tau (even though she’s the only one since yours) and drew her in a similar way. ( also, are there any distinctive features on her nieces?) btw the LION idea is phenomenal, also do you think she has a mane? They’re fun to draw.

June- how big is she? I assumed she was the size of a human based on her interactions, but then I realized she might be looking down of people because she can fly. But then I remembered that it says she walks around. So then I confused myself. Also, skin tone, hair color/texture, eyes?

Beatrice- SHE IS SO WELL WRITTEN I felt genuinely angry while reading her meeting with Lucy Ann (in a good way) and she seems like someone you would meet in real life, totally obnoxious! Also, I don’t really know how TAU elves usually look so, idk anything about her skin tone or hair or eyes.

Oh wow, this is all so kind of you to say! Thank you so much - I'm so glad to hear you enjoy my writing, and I love the sketches you've done! You already have a lot of great designs and the characters look super expressive!

It's really exciting to be asked more of what my characters look like and I'll give you the best description I can, but I do want to note I often don't have a clear idea of what my characters look like - I like that writing lets a reader come up with their own spins on what a character looks like! So while I'm adding my own interpretation of my characters here, if you have a different idea you think works better or just looks cooler to you, I say go for it!

I'll organise my thoughts by each character:

Darceus: I was definitely inspired by @feferipeixes' character Felicity to make a kitsune character! I really like the mane idea you have going in your sketches, and female lions do occasionally grow manes! I like the way you've drawn her formal attire, with the nine tails spread out behind her like a sort of cape! You really brought her to life!

I probably still imagine her with a fox's colouration - I liked the lion imagery to evoke the broader facial features and just overall stockier build than an average kitsune.

The nieces: They're probably both young adults of average height. I don't have a clear idea of what they look like, but it might be fun to draw them as a different type or species of fox - silver foxes look really pretty with distinctive markings! They probably have less tails than Darceus, maybe three or so.

June: I definitely had the idea of her being average sized - I think writing it from Lucy Ann's perspective makes her seem taller as a lot of characters have to look down on her (sorry Lucy Ann!). I really like the wings you drew for her! She's a middle-aged lady with a little grey in her red hair, and probably likes wearing a lot of running gear - gotta train for that 10K!

Beatrice: I really like the long ears you've given her, that looks super distinctive! The loose t-shirt is really good. I probably imagine her with more of a pear shaped build with dark brown eyes and hair. If she does magic like in her appearances with Noie I like to think it'd look a lot how Mod V's elf OC Florian does it.

Also I definitely am looking for Lucy Ann to start wearing a glove! I'm not sure whether it would be fun to have it be a red glove to match the rest of her outfit, or if it's black or some other clashing colour to illustrate how she sees it as something unwanted and forced upon her.

i really want to get into the... life series i think it's called? or hermitcraft? (tumblr confused me a lot on the names) your art makes it seem very interesting and i've heard so many cool things and seen so many cool fanarts, but im not sure where to start since it seems to be a long series!

it usually helps me a lot when i get some sort of description of the characters in the series to know which ones i should look into to know where to start... so i was wondering if you could ramble a bit about any characters you want from the series!!! i have a big curiosity on grian, they seem very cool !

-Life Series has 4 (soon to be 5) seasons: 3rd Life [3L], Last Life [LL], Double Life [DL], Limited Life [LimL]. TLDR goal is to outlive everyone else and be the last person standing.

-Hermitcraft has 9 seasons. You do NOT need to watch every season in chronological order, they all exist as their separate thing.

Hermitcraft doesn't have ' set lore ' either hermits go on there for different reasons do different stuff and stories sprout off of that just *happen* momentarily.

I think watching the Life Series first BEFORE Hermitcraft is a good starting point bc there's less people to keep track of and improv plot happens, making it easier to pick out the faves you like and wish to continue watching on HC. Majority of the ppl in Life Series are on Hermitcraft while others are in Empires. Similar vibe of smp more lore and rules with governing different empires if you like that stuff :] there was also a crossover arc between Empires s2 and Hermitcraft S9 last year which was awesome.

As for Hermitcraft itself bwaaaa, pick any season (personal favourite is Season 7) - ppl rly like Seasons 7 8 and 9 but that's probably cuz they're newer. Current POVs in season 9 I watch: Bdubs, Etho, Scar, Grian, Tango, Beef - occasionally Impulse, Pearl, Zedaph

I did a similar ask on recommended Life Series POVs for each season HERE. Just know that the LAST LIFE ETHO/BDUBS POV compulsory event you MUST watch that at least once.

random Life Series thoughts:

Grian isn't as serious and calculative as he's popularly depicted as in fanon, he has lots of fun always he silly :]! And I think the reason just comes from his competitive approach to each season and his relationships. He treats it as it is: a game and trying to place him in an rp/lore setting makes him come off as such. In reality he's easily tunnel visioned by The Bit (things like gimmick kills, one-off plans) and trying to win and that's completely fine.

That being said I do not believe desertduo (Grian/Scar) are opposites of eachother, they have much in common and just because they are doesn't make their chemistry any less valuable. If you want to talk about opposites SCAB (Scar/Etho) is the way to go. Very apparent in 3L and especially LL: Magic vs Science, Fire vs Ice, wildcards. Scar the lover who tries to be a survivor, Etho the survivor who tries to be a lover. Their tension bleeds into Hermitcraft (see S7) as well and I wish people realised how awesome scab just is guys scab is so awesome u_u

From the architecture down to their fates, Bdubs' builds are the embodiment of his love for the people he aligns himself to each season, there's a reason why he'd rather risk his entire being to protecting places so sacred and I think about that loads. whwhwh I'd talk about it/analyse each build individually because he is my favouriteee but I am shy u///u....

Intoxicating Fear Introductions

Hello yes I do!!! It is absolutely chill to do fanart for them!! PLEASE TAG ME IN IT I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE!!!

I can actually do a little reveal now for this of my boards for Hero and Villain WHO HAVE NAMES NOW.

Hero — Kit Mallory

Hero’s name is Kit Mallory and he has not been having a great time… his description?

This kind of vibe, like a golden retriever but make it suffer. He’s tall— like 6ft, this kind of floppy light brown hair and his smile used to be so bright before Villain. He just turned 20 a month before Villain took him, and he wears oversized clothes and layers to make himself appear bigger and bulkier because he is a self-conscious little bean. Especially next to Superhero who seems to dwarf him.

Kit is look wise based off of Andrew Garfield in the Spider-Man movies. He is determined and always wants to do good and help others more than beat the shit out of bad guys, that’s why he didn’t debut for so long. However he has no trouble fighting when he is defending someone like Other Hero or trying to defeat a Villain, he holds nothing back.

Villain— Ambrose

Then of course we have Villain, my boy.

Villain’s name is Oscar Ambrose, but Hero only knows him as Ambrose.

His looks are mostly based off of young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter, but with more ✨style✨ For example in the top left is his casual outfit and the kind of thing he wears around Kit’s house. He loves his suits and his shirt and pants combo because he can intimidate people dressed like that.

I think Young Tom riddle just captures Ambrose’s charisma and malice perfectly, because he is very boy-next-door, someone your mother would approve of you bringing home but there’s just something off about him.

He, of course, adores this. That he is unapproachable and he likes to show it off with how he dresses, speaks and presents himself. He lives off of fear day-to-day but having someone to satiate it around the clock is simply Christmas for him. Ambrose is older than Kit, he’s around 25, 6ft 4, towering over Hero and broader too. He is cruel and his eyes are dark and look into your soul, his lips just a little too red. My favourite sadist.

His hair is dark and almost silky looking, closer to black than dark brown but brown nonetheless, and he has his own board for his hair because he is meticulous about it. He also has a slight stubble that has been growing ever since he brought Kit back to his own house to torture him.

I must stress this is huge for him because he is so well groomed but he is just having too much fun with Kit to shave. His hair is more like the two top pictures below, perfectly styled and curled just behind his ears, but the same kind of cold perfection of the bottom two as well as a more similar colour.

And that is it!!! I was going to just drop in the names on the next update but this ask gave me an excuse to fangirl for a bit over my boys!!! Again please tag me in whatever art you make!!!

I am typically neutral to most things in fiction, so there’s not much point in throwing hissy fits over minor stuff and things that don’t affect sane people much unless the creators, canon and even the fandom are truly toxic and problematic. While there are technically bad apples in every fandom, some are way worse than the others so I block and filter out as much as I can for my own sanity. As much as I try to filter the things I hate out, somehow some idiots don’t tag properly. Some of y’all weren’t specific enough not just being irresponsible idiots. Had to block a shit ton of character assassination content not just ppl slipping past tags.

AI images/artists (At first I didn’t think much of it but it clutters many art sites with all these different tags if #ai art isn’t used! Not only does it have delusional fake artists and their audience who thinks it’s fine, it’s especially bad news for inactive or even deceased online users. Like, it’s unethical and most sharp eyed users see how flawed the “art” is. That makes mediocre human drawn art look good because they aren’t that blurry or has these machine made flaws. The AI Generated art is often uncredited which can confuse people. Oh god, I hate the realistic/real life ones the most because what if that’s used without that person’s consent? What if that’s used to make an innocent person look bad?)

Vivziepop Stans (I used to like her art but the plot of Helluva Boss portraying the main toxic romantic relationship as “good LGBT rep” is uncomfortable… the same ppl can criticize Val/Angel aka MothDust or even other same sex ships but defend Stolitz? All bc it’s gay men screwing each other? I’m glad that critics point out the similarities because aren’t they both technically abusive relationships? Toxic relationships are toxic regardless of their sexualities and how it’s written! I mean there’s a mountain of evidence of her many misdeeds and even abuse of her power! Also, she, her associates, and even fans had the audacity to diss other indie animation projects!)

Miraculous Ladybug (uncanny 3D graphics, especially the salters and the maribat shippers ruining practically everything they touch)

Rabid proshippers [I hate the ones that take things too far like the big age gap (a decade to more apart &/or when one is old enough to be their parental figure), prepubescent children and younger x adult (yes that includes real and fictional ancient/past times), and incest ones (blood related, adoptive or foster it’s still fucking unnerving… I mean aren’t they raised together as such even if their time together wasn’t that long?) Though I understand why people give them the side eye due to probably not tagging correctly and boundary disrespecting the ppl who use DNIs for good reasons bc the latter most likely have reasons why they hate or don’t like certain things. I mean just leave the DNI folks be, otherwise they’d get paranoid that your kind is following them or they might start a sob fest over a follow. Most People are just here for content not start shit.]

Rabid antishippers (I used to have a similar mentality as a teenager but such a puritan approach wasn’t good for my sanity. I understand how y’all feel about certain fictional ships but blocks and filters exist here and several other sites that have these functions. So use them instead of causing unnecessary discourse and drama over small things! Y’all don’t have to complain about every single thing that irks you. Besides, if y’all are that concerned about certain things, go help out real people who actually need it and stick to your safe spaces! Nostalgia fandom (sheesh, these people need to try something new it’s like they are literally stuck in time, bitching about new things and going as far as to dislike or negative review bomb things not from their childhood time. Especially a portion of the western cartoon fandom. Yes, it’s usually those guys making a fuss about their favorite stuff being forever canonically discontinued. Well, there’s the fan works to create and consume! Wherever I am, I rarely hear the eastern anime fandom fussing about the “good old times”. But the downside to the nostalgia are lonely feelings when several others have moved on and a shitty attitude towards a lot of things not aligned with your own tastes.)

Age Regression/Age Play blogs (this type of content is kinda weird… it’s annoying and unnerving that teen/adult characters or even real people behave like little children to cope or smth. I don’t care if it’s also SFW, y’all still are getting the side eye for using baby/childish talk. And turning mature characters into that kind of behavior is just kinda stupid.)

Fetish artists/blogs (should I even put them in the same category as kink blogs? The kink blogs at least give out warnings and tags.)

Fictional content that turns places and countries into anthropomorphic figures (weird ASF… aren’t anthro animals enough?)

RL crime/criminal apologists and hybristophiliacs (these guys make the fictional villain/antagonist character stans look like angels bc at least the latter will seemingly less likely simp for IRL criminals and actually know what’s fictional.)

Hello! I saw your post about IDs and found it super important and informative. Thank you for sharing!!

I have a question, if it’s no bother. Is IDing things with extensive detail better or worse than a two-sentence ID (or something similar)? I’m still learning and I wonder if cutting down would be a good idea, or if it’s not a problem to continue with longer descriptions? (Im also taking a ‘bad ID is better than no ID’ to heart, especially as I’m trying to ID art—something I’ve been avoiding because of its complexities. Overall you’ve really helped out and I wanted to thank you !!)

Thanks for asking! As this post puts it, people will have all kinds of personal preferences about the level of detail to include. I write what I consider to be kind of medium-length IDs, particularly when I describe fanart, but that's not like an objectively correct way to do it — so it's good to have a lot of different ideas and styles floating around out there, written by a variety of people.

Generally, it's best to err on the side of not too long — but if you want to write something a little longer, it might be appropriate if you mention the most important details first, so a reader can skip the rest of the ID once they feel like they get the picture?

Also, depending on the content of the post, the length of an ID might vary! If it's just a gif or something expressing agreement or disgust, with no other details relevant to what it's conveying or its humor, you can keep it short at "a person making X expression," or similar.

On the other hand, describing fanart, I get a little more into mood, color, and character outfits (still going in broad strokes, though). The exception is comics or other really complex/detailed art, which warrants a lot of summarizing. Occasional line breaks are important in this case so people who need IDs but don't use screenreaders can easily parse it.

One last thing — this isn't relevant to images that you're about to post, but when describing other people's posts, sometimes I look at the notes before writing an ID to see what aspects of an image people are commenting on. If I see a lot of people noticing and having an emotional reaction to some background detail in a piece of art, for example, then I'll be sure to mention it.

like i want to draw them SO BAD but i made the mistake of not writing down their appearances so i really only know kihrin is just a white dude but make it ethereal, teraeth has black skin and green eyes (but is it actually like fantasy race black skin and what are his facial features like and does dude have hair an-), and janel has??? dark skin?? and is so buff. or at least if she isn't i'm making it so. i do not know what her hair looks like although i could sess out a face but i DO know the joratese in general are dark-skinned and have facial markings that are similar to horse patterns (which reminds me of vitiligo) and she does have those even if she isn't ethnically? she was raised joratese she is joratese. etc etc. too scared to venture into the tags to see if there is any fanart for fear of spoilers. don't even know where to BEGIN for pulling culture to figure out a general direction of things. deepest pain

A classic a chorus of dragons experience. Don't worry, no one's who read the books knows what anyone looks like really. Except for Skye I think. But I swear most people are fumbling through their imaginings of everyone.

Some books in-depth and repeatedly describe character appearances (like kotlc, where we basically get a new description multiple times a book) and others they will mention the details Once and never again. So you never know if you should've been taking notes until you're in it. A Chorus of Dragons has some good detail when it's there, but it's not there frequently.

I was trying to mentally keep track for art purposes myself, and fun fact! We don't learn Teraeths hair is "sleek" until about 320 pages into book 4! And it is only mentioned that one time!

I do have a better grasp on the main four now thanks to crowdsourcing the information and going back for reference. So to answer just a few of your questions: Teraeth has long, sleek black hair (though several people like to imagine him with locs) and is describes as having angular, handsome features. I'm like 80% certain he has a long straight nose, but I couldn't tell you what page or book that's from. Janel has smooth chestnut skin like a horse, but without markings. She just has the black hands and feet. hair is like a mohawk but long and braided back, sides of her head naturally bald. She also wears a lot of jewelry as a display of masculinity.

Also, not much to worry about with the tags. There isn't an active fandom on tumblr; there's a few people who've read the series who might post about it or interact with a post once in a blue moon, but there is a severe drought of fic and art and all that. You can find a few people with some searching, but most active place is the discord. There's no art posted on tumblr right now, but you can find about 2 pieces if you google it, neither of which are spoilers. There's been a few art pieces in the discord recently though! And once you finish memory of souls you can read the one (1) fic on ao3, as that's set about right after it! Right now the tag is like 99% these asks.

So I think you can see why I'm so thrilled to have a mutual reading it. I swear once a week at least the discord is talking about how badly we want to get others to read the series and how underappreciated it is

do you know about lord Krishna (a deity) of the Hindu mythology? I'm not much of a religious person but i know ab him a lot bcz of coming from a religious household and somethings ab him and kaeya just clicks so much

I actually thought ab it bcz kaeya's constellation is a peacock and Krishna is often symbolized with peacock feathers, so i looked into it . I think there might be some links connecting the both but I can't say for sure everything is connected but somethings might be telling us what might happen in the future lore.

Thank you for asking, anon! I do know a bit about Krishna (my mom had a Bollywood phase and Krishna was frequently mentioned) but I have a feeling you know better than me. I wish I knew more than just the basics, but there are a lot of similarities between them other than just the peacock symbolism!

I also realized while seeing some Desi!Kaeya fanart that he gives the same energy as to when I see images of Krishna (the fanarts are so good. Probably one of my favorite types of Kaeya art)

I will be using some texts from wiki to better explain my MAIN points because my mind is a mess and I need to learn to control my blabbering!! If i didn't do this, who knows how long this post will get...

He also seems to be a universal representative in-game oddly enough (frequently the face of tutorials or is part of the character trials).

Kaeya having Desi themes is definitely the biggest indicator to this. Were he not designed and named in such a way, many of us would have probably brushed this off (probably wouldnt have even connected the dots)

Obviously this has to be something from carry us to freedom. The line about “safety as the unfaithful child of obedience” is the one that people quote back at me all the time, and I’m very proud of it, but I’m going to go with something different. I’m cheating because this is two lines, but it doesn’t make sense alone and I really like it because it distills a lot of the writing I’ve done with SecUnits going rogue: “But those who have had their first taste of hope are soon addicted to its ache. They would leave behind this life-long death for a single breath of freedom, even if a second breath is too much to ask for.”

I always want to talk about WIPs. the question is which WIP snippet I haven't already put on discord that will make sense without too much explanation. hmmm....here, how about a sneak peek at chapter 2 of Old Unit, Young Unit? don't mind the [bracket notes], this isn't polished yet.

This is not a security incident. Cameras show that a crowd is gathering in the [public space]. The supervisors are looking for a way for the workers to blow off steam without diminishing productivity. 

When we enter, the crowd of humans gets loud and rowdy. HubSystem is smart enough to recommend that another two SecUnits be redirected here in case the crowd becomes out of control. I backburner most of my SecSys inputs. They will be irrelevant to my current task. The supervisor has given us our instructions.

Beside me, Unit 8891 stiffens almost imperceptibly. Young units are often distressed by situations like this one. I am not. I have been in similar situations more times than I can count. Unit 8891 is lucky that we have been ordered not to use our energy weapons. 

Unit 8891 pings me. Is that a challenge? A threat? I ping back. I’m not interested in posturing. I will ensure the fight is as short and uneventful as the supervisors will allow. 

Knowing humans, it will not be short or uneventful.

💛 What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing?

The thing I have learned and am learning and will probably never be done learning is how to be less of a perfectionist, lol. I get very embarrassed about sharing work that’s not up to my very high standards for myself. But honestly fanfic and ao3 and discord have really helped me with that—sometimes I want to show off this cool thing I made more than I want it to be perfect!! And knowing that people will enthuse over cool ideas with me even if I don’t write them perfectly is so freeing.

🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

Oh my goodness LITERALLY ANYTHING, I would be so honored if someone made art of my fic!!! But if I had to pick something…well, carry us to freedom is still my most beloved fic (altho Old Unit, Young Unit might catch up once I have more of it to share!). I’m not really sure how you would visualize it, since it’s very short but also broad in scope and there aren’t really any specific characters, but if someone could find a way to capture the prosetry vibes in art I would be in awe. A lot of my others are just sort of miscellaneous Murderbot interactions and emotions and somewhat similar to each other—but ooh, you know what else would be fun to see visualized? what did I do?, the fic i have gotten the most wordless screaming for.

A while ago on Reddit I made a post where I kind of gave my opinion on the whole Percy Jackson casting thing. But to show my comment, I have to share a different post. So I'll just credit them first: I commented under Reddit user u/how-s-chrysaf-taken on a post from last year on the subject of the PJO casting. (my post was made 28-30 days ago, however). Here's my copy and pasted transcript:

Like, I've gotten used to Annabeth being the tall, blonde girl with the curly hair, not just bc of the books but bc of all the fanart and fanfiction. No hate to any of the kids, and I'm sure they'll do a great job. It's just that after all these years I was hoping to see the characters come to life as I knew them.

(Me): I imagine it's how people who read Harry Potter before the films felt about the films changes. There may end up being people who can only visualize the characters as they were played by their actors here. Who honestly knows? All I know is, it's a subjective thing. I have a similar problem to you (being so used to the book description/design), but I see why it can be nice to let anyone play a role (and possibly play it to their interpretations, as well). I'm not sure where I'm going with this. But I know it's topic with a lot of depth and confusion to me.

So my opinion wasn't really expressed so much as I just rambled about why I think the subject is so touchy for some. It's all subjective, and a casting will always go against somebody's vision of things. It's a complex issue.

A video that I made to vent some of my frustration. I don’t know where it comes from, but I think the difficulty of being “just a trauma holder” with no real job other than hovering around being sad and angry is frustrating. Yes, I am a protector. Yes, I am a persecutor. Yes, I can sometimes co-host on a good day. But there is so much pain and rage in me. I wanted to share because I felt like people in the system community would understand, of all people.

There are (sighted) people who don’t see pictures in their heads? Intellectually that makes sense - there are people who rarely think verbally/in words and whose thoughts are almost entirely pictures, so I’m not surprised that the opposite is also true (all words, no pictures), but as someone who both has an extremely visual imagination and who also has a pretty much nonstop internal monologue running at all times, both extremes just seem weird to me.

I don’t just have pictures in my head - frequently when I’m reading I’ll actually “see” a sort of movie in my head.

I started writing as a kid because my utter lack of artistic ability meant that I had no good way to actually create the images in my head, but at least poetry and written descriptions could approximate it. (People who claim artistic skill is not the result of innate talent lie. I am living proof that no amount of effort can make you able to draw. Meanwhile, I never had to put in any effort at all to write metered poetry because my brain can naturally do that effortlessly.).

There are definitely some downsides to it, though. Because I’m so visual, adaptations where the characters look different from the original versions my brain imprinted on can be a stumbling block that takes me a stupid amount of time to get used to (and don’t even start with me about off-model animation or comics art - whhhyyyyy is it so hard for Marvel and DC artists to keep characters’ eye colors straight? Why oh why can’t the ones who like to trace from photos at least find photo references who look vaguely similar to the character, yes, Greg Land I am talking about you and your inability find any Asian pin-up models to trace Psylocke from).

I also can’t handle the deliberately off-model wriggly line style used in cartoons like Ren and Stimpy or Ed, Edd & Eddy and can in general only get fannishly into animated canons if I like the art style and character design. An animated canon can have the best writing and voice acting in the world, and if my initial reaction is “it looks ugly,”* then it takes a lot of looking at people’s done-in-a-style-I-like-better fanart versions or reading fic to overwrite that (Homestuck would have passed me by forever if I wasn’t able to get emotionally invested via fanfic and then grit my teeth through the canon the way I do a comics run with bad art).

*I am aware of the hypocrisy involved in this considering that all my efforts at drawing the same characters would be infinitely uglier.

Okay so wait a minute, with this aphantasia thing. I don’t think I have aphantasia because I process audio fine, in fact I prefer not to have any visual, but apparently there is some relationship between it and ADHD. I’m not trying to be confrontational in any of this but I’m bewildered by the idea of mentally picturing things you listen to or read about. It’s bothered me since I posted the ask. 

I can picture things in my head, if I stop and make a conscious decision to build them, but if I’m doing that I can’t do anything else – I can’t listen to a podcast and picture it in my head and also do something with my hands. Come to think of it I probably couldn’t even keep up with the podcast if I was trying to picture it in my head, I’d struggle to choose which things to imagine and by the time I got them built they’d have moved on. It never feels like a very useful thing to do, because I’ve already got the words, that’s the important part, and I’d rather be doing stuff. I just assumed that most of the time when people talk about picturing stuff they’re either doing it very deliberately, like a guided meditation, or they’re being poetic, like people don’t actually do that, we just say we do as a way of describing someone thinking about something.

So, I’m listening to a podcast in which the host reads a letter from Napoleon Bonaparte to his brother, discussing his brother’s relationship with his wife (“she’s still young, let her dance if she wants, don’t lock her up with the kids all day.”) If you see images in your head when you hear audio, are you seeing the host reading off a sheet of paper, or Napoleon writing the letter, or Napoleon talking to his brother, or are you seeing Napoleon’s brother being mean to his wife? If you don’t know what any of these people look like, do you just make something up? 

Jesus Christ, when people read erotica do they picture the sex happening? What’s that like? You just get porn in your head involuntarily? I mean, not involuntarily, you’re choosing to read the text, but it just shows up when you do? 

Writers, when you write do you get mental images as you go? I often will pause in writing to build a mental image in my head and then describe it but as soon as I do it disappears, and it’s mostly a waste of time so I really only do that when I need to describe a space that people are moving around in (like the fishing lodge with the kitchen bar dividing the living room and kitchen, I do have several mental “camera snaps” of that setup, but I don’t picture it when I’m writing about it). 

This might explain why I always get yelled at for not describing people in my books. It’s simply unimportant to me 99% of the time and awkward to try and insert it the other 1%. I don’t picture people in my head when I read – they’re a personality, a collection of characteristics. My characters don’t have faces to me, like how people in dreams don’t have faces, you just know who they are. I describe them but that’s just words I really like, or I pick out people who already exist and just say “oh they look like that”. Obviously when someone wants a description I do my best to supply it, but in prose it’s just not important. 

This is genuinely blowing my mind. This is why people always want descriptions of things! They get to see the descriptions! Reading a book must be like going to an art gallery anytime you want without moving. Is that what it’s like? Is this super common, like am I the weird one, or is this just like for people with super vivid imaginations?
