Do you guys notice how when Shawn Fain, president of the United Auto Workers union, started planning a general strike, he did it by a) targeting his messaging towards unions with the ability to safely and effectively strike in large numbers, b) laid out a clear, actionable plan for those unions to follow (setting contracts to all expire at the same time, since many unions cannot strike while under contract), c) is using union contracts to set clear, actionable demands that can be met in order to gauge success and provide an end goal, and d) started organizing FOUR YEARS before the proposed strike date to give people the chance to plan accordingly, because it takes a really freaking long time to get tens of millions of people organized?
You notice how he didn't do it by slapping a message on Twitter saying 'hey nobody go to work on Monday, that'll really show 'em'?
#those 'monday is a general strike stay home if you can!!!' posts are SO performative and they really annoy me#like. you MUST know you can't organize a general strike of tens of millions of people by sharing an infographic on twitter. Right?#don't even get me started on the most recent one that was like 'we understand the last strike only gave one day of notice'#'so this time we're giving you two! strike is on tuesday everyone don't forget!'#like GENUINELY was that supposed to be a joke#the linked article also touches on how difficult actual organizing a workplace is which is nice#because they mention previous failed attempts in which organizers basically just handed out leaflets#and assumed the benefits would be obvious. which i think is basically the equivalent of posting an infographic on twitter#which is to say - not effective at all. Organizing is a LOT of work! Running an effective union even more so!#labor rights

me, a responsible being, working on the coding project as I should vs. me, a dysfunctional shithead, getting distracted by reading about brains (once aGAIN damnit (it's my favorite "I need to study my field but bc I should do that it's an impossible unthinkable feat now, so I'm reading about something else to fool my brain I'm still being productive"-topic))
#but after my thesis me & brains have been on a break bc got tired reading abt them during that (bc I had a topic that sorta allowed me to#sidetrack to brain stuff also) but seems I'm over the brain overload now#yay? i guess#also no one who actually studies medicine/brains/etc. yell at me abt wikipedia and like ''why are u studying that like that''#I'm just going through the wikipedia & reading article abstracts path; nothing serious#also my procrastination has reached inhuman levels like it's a full-time job now#bc I have like a chill week's worth of work to do and then I've done the courses for my bachelor's degree#but sending in that ''heyy i'm done with the courses let me graduate''-thing fills me up with sO MUCH anxiety & dread I'm working so slow#now (even tho couldn't send that in for like a month bc gotta first wait the courses to be graded and stuff so in actuality I should#not be slowing down even a bit bc I need to finally be done with this damn degree asap; gotta move on and should've ages ago (it's actually#super bad how late I'm with it (1.5 mf years jesus christ; I'm not even like a little bit proud abt getting a degree anymore like I'm sorta#just embarrassed if I have to tell ppl like ''yea I graduated'' bc dude ?? only now?? u were supposed to be done with that 1.5year#ago what have u been doing (fuck if I know) so I'm keeping it like ''if anyone asks'' basis)))#(the tags and parantheses started a life of their own lol sorry abt that)#studyblr#studyspo#bookblr#booklr#study#november 2024#2024

i know not many people would want to read a 10,000 word article about the minecraft end poem and how the author, Julian Gough, was never fairly compensated for his work and has made it public domain.
But it's a very well-written and heartfelt read, and he makes it very clear that none of this is a cash-grab and despite the fact that he is essentially a starving artist in this capitalist society, he only mentions his financial struggles despite Minecraft's huge huge success at the bottom of this article and not in the tweets so as to not dilute his message.
Anyway, I just think it'd be cool if those who are able to could support him in some way whether it be subscribing to his substack or donating to his paypal (that's linked in the article, you can ctrl + F to find it easier), that's all.
#Edit: Please look at the article for his paypal and his substack!! most ppl are reblogging a version where i didnt mention it oh gosh#im not really. the kind of person to make posts like this and i dont have the spoons to make it look nice.#my tumblrs not that visible anyway so i guess it doesnt actually matter#i just think that understandably not many ppl would read through the entire article and it makes me so sad that even in the article#he talks about how badly he just wants to make art and not play the capitalism game and still he doesnt talk about needing support#on the platforms where it'd be most visible bc he doesnt WANT to play the capitalism game even if society dicates it and its meant to#be an act of LOVE and just. yeah.#minecraft#minecraft end poem#mineblr

Looking through Wikipedia talk pages about anything related to Islam and being like "ohhh ok so you're an islamophobe". Literally citing right wing/anti-immigration books as sources and then say "the point of Wikipedia is to convey the perspective of secondary sources" like ok. There's no point changing these pages because these wikiepedians will just bully you and overwrite them.
#ive seen zionists on here share the most islamophobic articles about the Prophet#literally one article claimed he was a caravan raider that bothered the people of quraysh for no reason#like thats not even remotely true#anyways tumblr zionists are major islamophobes

#jumblr#jewish politics#antisemitism tw#personal thoughts tag#brought to you by me going to shel silverstein's wikipedia page#and subsequently being disappointed by yet another article about a person starting with 'born to a jewish family'#you will not die if you say 'this person was jewish and their family was as well!' i promise#recognizing that some people you like or were famous are jews is not a bad thing#jew isn't a bad word. being a jew is not a curse and refusing to even recognize that someone is jewish sends way worse a message#but i was obsessed with shel silverstein's poetry as a kid#which it feels like everything i loved as a kid and now being jewish at a rate higher than chance was an Early Sign lmao

Can't believe this writer is trying to argue the problem with the show is that it isn't treating the main villain like a one-note, simplistic character and this is somehow too confusing because viewers won't know he's the villain despite all the villainous things he does like murder, manipulation, gaslighting, and orchestrating the complete destruction of an entire Elven realm. How media illiterate do you have to be to think exploring a villain's motivation in some way constitutes trying to trick the audience into think he isn't really a villain?
#rings of power#trop#lord of the rings#lotr#sauron#some many “This is what is wrong with this show” article are just the most banal things I have ever read#the wrote point they are trying to make is that because the ending is know#the show is bad for taking it time to get there#that it is bad to try and flesh out the story and characters and it needs to be more simplistic to get to the ending quicker#it is the same old nonsense said about any prequel#that because we know how it ends there's no tension#shit like that#which no one ever makes about stories based on real life#no one ever said that about titanic even though we all know the boat will sink#trop is trying to take a timeline and turn it into a drama#but surprisingly many just want an enactment of the timeline#they basically want the fellowship prologue in long form#which would be boring

has everyone seen that clip of limmy getting sidetracked on a stream over checking how john linnell looks these days from about a year ago btw
"do you think he's bald, by the way? I mean, that's 1990 - look at the forehead. say if I just checked him out, and his hair's all shaved off, we could say "aye, bald". you know, something like that. but I've got a feeling he might be clinging onto it, and we're gonna have a debate, about if that... is baldness. ... oh you FUCKIN bastard. WHAT. wait, wait, wait, wait. wait. WHAA T. that's two-? NO WAYYY. hold on. he's- what age is he? ... SIXTY fuckin three??? [stammering] hold on.... GET tae FUCK.... not lost a ffffUCKIN- .... that the same guy?"

To be part of something big.
#I have the power to make angst of characters nobody else cares about#I've been thinking about that one dimple dialogue on the divine tree arc#about how mezato in the end only wanted to be part of something bigger than herself#doesn't she see herself as someone relevant? or at least worthy of attention?#it kind of reminds me of how reigen wanted to be “someone”#but contrary to reigen it seems like mezato doesn't see herself as someone who can be “big” on her own right#and rather associates relevance with being part of something. this way her efforts would be recognized at least indirectly?#based on article examples on the fanbook mezato takes the school journal way more seriously than the other members of it#and considering how dedicated and singleminded she can be about what she finds interesting...#having your efforts devalued or even ignored must take a toll on the self image of someone like her#people see her skill yet never care about what she actually enjoys and is passionate about. but it DOES mean something for her#I have mezato thoughts.#mp100#mob psycho 100#mp100 fanart#ichi mezato#mezato ichi#lalarts

Hatsune Miku being on the Coachella lineup for this year is amazing and great and so very silly but it’s so bad that tech bros are trying to spin it in favour of their “virtual AI influencers”
No. Like actually shut up?? Do you not know anything about Miku?? She is an art tool. She is a musical instrument. She isn’t being paraded around like she’s some sort of Metaverse influencer.
Stuff like that really grinds my gears. Do your research next time, hm? (looking at you specifically, Wendy Lee from the LA Times.)
#doctorsiren#not art#siren speaks#hatsune miku#this is just one of the many reasons on why I hate tech bros and their use of ‘AI’#their ‘ai influencers’ aren’t even ai#that’s just a buzzword that’s thrown around so much#the article pissed me off dude#I could only think of Jarvis Johnson’s videos about virtual influencers as I read it#DONT DO MY GIRL MIKU DIRTY LIKE THAT

ngl the "im white so i dont talk abt any characters' race ever bc im afraid of accidentally saying something racist" approach to fandom is like. very weak. imo.
like first of all: i get that "i dont incorporate race into my media analysis because i'm afraid of messing up" comes from a different place than "i don't incorporate race into my media analysis because I Don't See Race 😊 there is only The Human Race." but it has the same functional effect, right? that effect being that your analysis of [INSERT MEDIA HERE] ignores the very real way that race impacts people.
second of all: it feels kinda lazy! like ur saying "i dont know enough abt race to feel comfortable commenting on how race affects this show and i dont care enough to learn." the only way to become more comfortable discussing race is to actually practice discussing race. but when i see people saying this it feels like they're saying "i'm white, which means i don't know how to talk about race, and i don't have to know how to talk about race, and i don't ever have to know how to talk about race, so i'm choosing to never learn how to talk about race."
third of all: just because you don't openly talk about race doesn't mean you're any less likely to accidentally say or do something racist. implicit biases run deep, y'all. it's probably already there in your interpretation of the show. but the "i don't want to accidentally say something racist" implies that you are positive that your interpretation of the show isn't racist. and i'm not saying you're wrong. but i'm saying that if a person of color tells you that something you said about [INSERT MEDIA HERE] was racist, you better be prepared to actually listen and not just brush them off because "i can't be racist! i purposefully never talk about race just to make sure i'm not racist!"
which brings me to my final point: if you do accidentally say something racist... literally just apologize. if someone says you've been doing something racist, apologize and stop doing that thing. it's literally not that hard. i've done it. i've seen other people do it. "i'm scared of being called racist!" is such a weak excuse im tired of it. getting called racist is not the end of the fucking world. calm the fuck down and grow a spine. jesus.
#mine#ofmd fandom crit#txt#og#it feels like ppl who say this are the kind of ppl who think being accused of racism is worse than actually being racist yknow?#idk i was scared of being called racist when i was like. 13.#now i’m like “if i get called racist it’s probably bc i’m doing something racist”#with the exception being ofc when an anon tells me i’m racist for shipping blackhands (a thing i dont even do)#anyway i am SURE someone has made a post or even a wholeass Article abt this before that’s better than what i wrote

had to draw this to understand the way i feel about him now that the manga's ended. 🥲 on that note: if you like hawks and his ending, maybe don't read my tags lol. it's not bashing (imo) but they're not v nice. 😅
bg + unobstructed pose under the cut!
his expression's a lil different 'cuz i only changed the merged layer, all the lighting effects already flattened onto it. 💀 alas.
#hawks#mha hawks#bnha hawks#takami keigo#keigo takami#bnha#bnha fanart#mha#mha fanart#spoilers#bnha spoilers#mha spoilers#it's not very positive lol i don't really like the way his character ended 🥲#i think his hero worship for endeavor blinded him from seeing or doing anything that could make a difference#i was so let down when he didm't have any sort of critique or moral dilemma after the touya reveal#and just immediately supported endeavor--it made me think he wss incapable of being critical of his idol.#only further underscored with the way he remembers his endeavor plushie while he defends the rabking system.#like. he thinks about his childhood toy of his hero while he defends the system that ultimately caused that ''hero'' to ruin his family.#so blinded by that pedestal that he unironically thinks about the BIGGEST example of why the ranking system does NOT work#WHILE he defends said system.#he was introduced as this morally complicated guy and instead of his childhood worship of a flawed guy making him more interesting#by having him really THINK about what it means that his hero inadvertently created a super villain#he was instead flattened into an endeavor fan boy. and even tho he was introduced as a guy w a complicated bg of#villainous father + harshly trained by the HPSC from a young age he still doesn't do very much with the system of which he's gained charge.#if he thought of the plushie as a memory of what it meant to have a symbol of hope in his hands it's like...#hawks... abolishing the ranking system wont stop merch and news articles and good PR from happening...#anyways yeah. he was one of my faves for a really long time but the way he ends... i dont like that guy.#that being said him becoming president of the HPSC isnt smth i hate even tho idve given him a vacay and his sought-after free time.#and i like that he brings a katana around now. i tried to make the projection make it look like his epilogue self has wings.#oh and i hated the tiny epilogue panel that made it look like endeavor replaced his entire set of kids. :) just. absolutely loathed it. :))

Thoughtful and heartfelt article written by Lacy Baugher about the cancellation of Dead Boy Detectives, and why the decision just doesn’t make sense for Netflix.
I could literally quote the whole thing. Instead, I’ll leave you with these three (lengthy) quotes and encourage you to read the article in its entirety. And you totally should. It’s worth the read.
Quotes Below:
“On paper, the Dead Boy Detectives has all the ingredients to succeed. Its cast is charming; its vibes are fun and accessible. It features a genuine connection to an established and successful genre property, but not one so deep that new viewers would find themselves overwhelmed by lore. Perhaps most importantly, it has so, so much heart.”
“The pieces were in place for the series to run multiple seasons with rich character dynamics between the core quartet and a template that allowed for all sorts of adventures for the living and the dead. If this had been a show introduced during the heyday of The CW, it probably would have run for the better part of a decade. Alas, that's almost never a possibility in today's streaming landscape. Even the most successful series tend to come with a built-in expiration date. (Five years, max.)
Netflix has something of a history when it comes to cutting promising genre shows off at the knees. In recent years it has unceremoniously dumped all sorts of series, from fantasy (Shadow and Bone, Warrior Nun), and supernatural (Lockwood and Co., First Kill, The Midnight Club) to sci-fi (The OA, 1899). Dead Boy Detectives is certainly joining a good company. But the fact that its main characters were part of the same universe as The Sandman makes the show's cancellation even more galling. What streamer doesn't want a franchise to call its own? The Sandman is still one of the most popular comic series ever, and Netflix is currently gearing up to drop the second season of its successful TV adaptation.”
“That Dead Boy Detectives wasn't given more time to build an audience — or a bigger promotional budget to let viewers know of its existence — feels particularly criminal because Sandman's second season would have almost certainly given the drama a needed awareness boost.”
#dead boy detectives#save dead boy detectives#article written about dead boy detectives cancellation#it really feels like a strategically poor decision#also why were they given so little money for promotion#even if Netflix is hurting financially after pandemic and strikes investing in dbda within sandman franchise would have paid off long term#this was a shortsighted decision#i hope common sense prevails within the company and they bring back dbda

i feel like the queer community lost when we started policing labels and making sure everyone used the Correct™ labels instead of letting a person decide what feels right for them
#caique posts#inspired by a post a trans guy made asking if it was okay for him to keep identifying as a lesbian even though he’s now a man#and all the comments telling him no because lesbians can’t be men#and also all the other posts of people asking if they’re ''allowed'' to use certain labels#why do you need permission?#who are you even asking permission from?#we’re not cops#do whatever you want forvever#also inspired by an article in a zine in the 80s/90s of two FtMs in a T4T relationship#one of them described the relationship as being between a butch and his sissy boy#i cannot ever imagine anyone calling themselves that nowadays#because of ''only lesbians can be butches'' and ''sissy is offensive'' discourse#i’m sure there are people out there who would want to describe their relationship like that but don’t feel they’re ''allowed'' to#anyway lots of baby queers are tying themselves in knots trying to figure themselves out#and they’re more concerned with using the Correct™ label instead of the one they feel most comfortable with#yeah i just don’t like it#knowing you’re queer should be a liberating feeling#instead of something anxiety-inducing because you’re worried if you’re using labels wrong
