Oh hey, this puts me at 200 recommended fics! (201 with today's bonus) You can find them all with annotations in my #five fic friday tag, or as bookmarks in my AO3 account.

Watch the Sun Rise (G, 1203) - a lovely little missing scene in 1x4, Stede and Ed overnight after the lighthouse fuckery.

OFMD Drabble Week (G, 700) - remreader's drabbles earlier this month were all really lovely, tiny morsels, but Treasure Map was the one that had me just sit up with how well it uses the form.

To the Back of a Hand and a Sideways Glance (M, 2042) by @starlithumanity - I'm always here for a good fic that explores Ed's complicated emotional experience about Izzy's death*, and this one delivers in a tight post-canon scene.

*I have a separate bookmark collection on just this theme and I'm always interested in seeing more interpretations!

Pete & Prejudice (T, 14K) - I feel like I'm the last person on earth to discover this fic, but in case I'm not: what a delight! The Lucius voice in this modern AU is really distinct and thoughtful, and the story mirrors the themes of the show while maintaining its own focus and plot.

Halloween Sunset (M, 3135) - on theme for the season (northern hemisphere) and also a really good innkeepers' era exploration of growing and changing in a relationship.

Bonus fic, "I don't even go here edition": Summertime Can't Last Forever (Agent Carter, G, 1167) by @frommybookbook - I don't have a lot of words, but it is such a beautiful short piece about impending death and loss.

In retrospect, the whiskey was probably a bad idea, because while they might be off for the next 48, it’s still a school night and at least one of them has to be in a condition to get Chris up tomorrow.

Though Eddie’s not actually drunk. He can’t blame it on that. They’ve been sipping from the bottle, passing it back and forth between them, and there’s a warm buzz in the pit of his stomach but that’s it. He lost the plot of the action movie on the screen halfway through the first major car chase, mostly because Buck leaned forward on the couch and launched into a rant about practical stunt work and wire rigging, punctuating everything he said with enthusiastic gestures with the bottle of whiskey until Eddie plucked it out of his hand.

“—that’s what makes it, like, an instant classic, it’s precision stunt driving with rigs—hey,” he adds, as Eddie takes a drink from the bottle and then sets it down on the coffee table.

“Hey, yourself,” Eddie retorts. “So was that your backup plan if firefighting didn’t work out?”

“Stunt driving?” Buck asks, retrieving the bottle. He drinks from it, licks droplets of whiskey from his lips, hands it back. “You know what’s crazy, I never even thought about it?”

“Seems up your alley.”

“Yeah,” Buck says wistfully, and flops back against the couch. “I’ve definitely wrecked enough motorcycles. I have experience.”

Eddie snorts and kicks him, then leaves his foot there, resting on the solid curve of Buck’s thigh. Buck’s fingers curl around his ankle, warm and familiar. “That’s not worrying or anything.”

“You worry about me?” Buck asks, guileless and pleased. Eddie kicks him again.

“No,” he says.

“Yeah, you do,” Buck retorts, but he’s grinning. “See. This is why I don’t need to—to date anybody.”

“Because I worry about you?” Eddie asks, amused.

How did Kisuke know everything about everyone to solve every problem but somehow only knows the vaguest of info about the right hand of the soul king?

I'm not saying he should know about Jushiro's condition but he should have at least known a wikipidia level of info.

Nah because something that is abundantly clear about Soul Society is that nobody in the Seireitei has the slightest bit of actual knowledge of Rukongai. And Kisuke isn't an exception.

Like, Soul Society is an incredible stratified place. All of the most powerful and important people are in the Seireitei. And even the powerful folks from outside are eventually brought in, because the temptation of power/a better life is much too high to resist. And so the Soul Reapers don't care too much about what goes on beyond their walls! Sure, they might need to kill a particularly nasty hollow now and again, or mass-murder the inhabitants to maintain the balance of souls in an emergency, but otherwise? Who cares!

Ichigo and co. jumped from the world of the living to Soul Society, but the Court Guards literally did not care so long as they were not in the Seireitei. Aizen was conducting crazy hollow research for years out there, and Kisuke hadn't the slightest inkling, because why would he? He's a retainer of the Shihouin clan! Their eyes are on their peers around them and the god above them, not the outside world that they consider beneath them.

personally i hope they leave solas' romantic history as vague as possible mostly bc i genuinely dont think its relevant or neccesary at all and it just adds another layer of mess to a situation thats already messy enough as it is. but if they do go down that route i am desperately hoping they just reaffirm him being a canonically terrible boyfriend who's never held a stable relationship longer for like. idk. 20 years at best lol. i think that would do WONDERS for his character actually
