안녕하세요 여러분~ 나는 캐나다에서 돌아갔어요!
Literally a couple hours ago, I decided I will actually be taking my second year of 한국어 starting in fall 2024!
Like I mentioned in another post, I found out my current uni (which I love so much) will not offer second-year courses until fall 2025. The reason I take college-level courses rather than something more casual or self-study is because I really need that familiar structure and the assignment deadlines to improve. I also want my language courses to be on my transcripts for future work. So anyway, I was super worried about the year off and how I would find time and motivation to self-study and maintain what I already know (I have a full-time job, a new hobby I'm starting, a family to care for, etc.).
Ironically, I never really considered finding a different college to study at as even an option, but today, I found a similar program at a different school and am already talking with the Korean professor about getting into the second-year courses. It looks like they require a placement test, but I emailed the Korean professor, and they only asked to see my transcripts, so we’ll see! If it all works out and I can afford it, I’ll be joining all you uni students and Korean learners to start a new year when September comes around! 여러분 화이팅!

Language Resources 🎀
*that I currently use for studying Spanish. When I pick up studying Japanese again, I will make a list for that as well <3 I currently use a handful of resources for learning Spanish, and they've all proven very useful so far!
🩷 My Current Resources for Spanish
Busuu - hands down my favorite language learning app. So much better than Duolingo, in my opinion (especially for languages with a different alphabet/writing system). I bought the premium for a year, which will expire in Septmeber, but I'm debating renewing again because I love it so much.
LingQ - I like using this for reading in Spanish. It gives me different types of things to read about, and while I don't have premium, I do put all the words I don't know into flashcards on AnkiApp on my laptop and translate anything I don't know using SpanishDict.
SpanishDict - favorite translation/dictionary app. I know it has lessons you can use, tho I haven't tried it yet, but I really do love this app. It's super helpful when I'm making flashcards or writing random vocabulary notes.
Goodnotes - This is a general note-taking app, but I love it because it allows you to import and write on PDFs, and that's just perfect for me! I've downloaded free PDF short stories/children's stories in Spanish and made notes of words I don't know, and taken notes in the app too. Definitely my favorite notes app, ever.
Italki - I know this is a website, too, but I use the app. It lets you work with professional teachers/community tutors in your target language. You can have structured lessons or just use it for conversation practice. I did a trial lesson not too long ago and have an upcoming lesson booked out in about 5 days. You pay per lesson, so there is no subscription, and there are so many languages and teachers/tutors to choose from. I did a lot of research before choosing a teacher, and I'm very happy with my decision so far. Definitely useful if there's not native speakers near you or you're like me and not confident talking to people you know in your target language/their native language.
Quizlet/AnkiApp - I use AnkiApp more then quizlet, and the Anki I'm referring to is NOT the same way everyone else uses, but it's the flashcard app of preference at the moment. I tried the AnkiDroid app and hated it. But yeah, AnkiApp is useful for flashcards and I really like it. I have it on my Chromebook and my Ipad.
Netflix - I love watching shows in Spanish on Netflix so much. I am currently watching La Reina del Sur on it (used to watch that sporadically in the past at a friend's house) and plan on watching some other shows, including Elite.
Spotify - I enjoy listening to Spanish music and podcasts right now. The music is more of an entertaining/enjoyable fork of audio input, and the podcasts help me get a feel for speaking and pronunciation and I choose podcasts that speak on topics of interest tk help with vocabulary in those areas I'd like to be able to speak about.
Textbooks - I have 2 PDF textbooks, Gramatica de Uso del Español: A1-B2 and Gramatica de Uso del Español: B1-B2. I've heard these are great for learning Spanish (and they're both only written in Spanish, like there's no English in them) and plan on using them once I figure out how to take good and useful textbook notes! I definitely need to improve on my grammar.
Those are all my current Spanish resources! I'd definitely say my current level is like a high A1 right now, nearing A2, but I have just a little bit of work to do before I get there. These resources are definitely gonna help, tho!

how to revise effectively
revision is a very important part of education, but many people have no idea how. in this post i'm going to outline the basics of revision. it's important to note that different subjects will require you to revise differently, there is no one size fits all when it comes to revision.
less is more- studying for 30 focused minutes is way more effective than a 5 hour study session while you watch tv.
work on exam technique- this is such an overlooked part of revising for an exam, but if you know how to answer the questions and what structures to use, it will really help you. ask your teacher or search for your exam board online to find out the best way for your subject and exam board.
manage distractions- if like me you get distracted super easily, you need to create an environment with limited distractions. this means put your phone on do not disturb, if your house/place of study is noisy put some headphones on and listen to classical music or study ambience (my favourites are the Harry Potter rooms by Asmrweekly on youtube). if you get distracted while studying by thinking of things you need to do, something that's really helped me is to have a piece of paper next to me that i can write all my thoughts on, so i can continue studying and do what i've written afterwards.
set precise goals for your study session- this helps to reduce procrastination. for example, if I put "study geography" on my to do list i'll procrastinate, but if I put "do 30 flashcards for the topic hazards" I have a clear idea of what I need to do
use the pomodoro method- having breaks is really important in keeping you engaged while you're studying. I don't follow the typical timings, but I usually do between 30-45 minutes of studying followed by a 10-15 minute break depending on how I'm feeling
utilise your study breaks- it's so easy to pick your phone up and scroll through tiktok until you realise your 5 minute break turned into a 3 hour tiktok binge. when I go on a study break, I only go on my phone to snap people back, or for a little scroll on pinterest. I also like to get some more water, grab a snack and stretch. If I'm having a longer break, I'll try to get outside and go for a walk, especially if the weather is good (in England this is about 5 days of the year haha)
now, onto different ways to revise
doing past papers
doing flashcards
making timelines
doing essay plans
making mindmaps
blurting
quizzes
if you study languages, practicing translations or specific types of questions that come up in the exam (for my exam board this is things like gap fill activities, 90 word listening or writing summaries, finding synonyms in a text etc.)

Woke up with a horrible headache today so i decided to take it slow this morning. Took some medicine and chilled in my backyard for a bit with a new book and the cutest little bee!
As my korean final is only 3 weeks away, the afternoon was spent with my korean book and flashcards app.
Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend!

한국어 실력을 높이기 위해서 매일 한국어로 일기를 쓰고 있어요.
As I have mentioned, September was a jam-packed month. I continue to upskill in my various interests and hobbies and pursue opportunities that I see myself enjoying - which is true most of the time. There's just so much homework to do. 🙈
I started studying Korean again to pursue translation in the future. Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines offered free cultural and language classes for the final term this year, and I got a slot for one of their classes. Registration at KCC is competitive. I initially aimed for two classes, but I am still lucky that I got into one of them. With King Sejong Institute, students complete 60 hours of language learning to graduate. Classes are happy, free, confusing, and seemingly complex at the same time 😉 but our teacher helps us understand each lesson before moving to another topic.
Oh, and we get to eat together after class, too!
I'm also studying Italian. But that's a whole other, yet equally confusing story. Languages are already mixing up in my head. But I still think that I want to learn more!

EN: Sorry for not posting anything these last few days, I Just wasn't feeling my best. First I got sick, so it's been a week since I could breath properly, and then I had minor crisis because of my German class, I did not understand something and it just snowballed from there and now I feel so stupid.
I learned German when I was in elementary school and left it for about 14 years, I started again about a month ago, not in A1 because my teachers said that I should start in B1, but there are some things that I do not remember and I feel so lost sometimes, and I just want to cry.
Anyways.

Day 1 of getting rid of my procrastination
Today I didn't have any classes. I still woke up super late, around lunch (and hated myself for it), ate some cereals and nibbled on my croissant, lit up my candle from IKEA, put some jazz on yt and sat in front of my laptop. Absolutely perfect vibe for studying. Tried to translate the Jules Verne's text for next week. Aaaaaand didn't finish it... Like always. Tomorrow after my German class, I'll try to get at least something done instead of waiting till the last day. ✧ Translate the Jules Verne's text ✧ Prepare my presentation on prefixes (it's terrible, cause the first person to present didn't do it correctly, so I'm left with no good example) ✧ Study for my test on Tuesday ✧ Continue reading the book for class (The Faculty of useless knowledge by Dombrovsky) ✧ Read the anthology book for my mini thesis Русское зарубежье о Чехове, and finally settle down on my subject/problematic ✧ Look up for some psychologists ✧ Do something creative (I bought 3 canvases so I could finally use my acrylic paint!!)
I feel already overwhelmed by typing all of this D: I'm such a weakling
Right now I'm trying to read my book and doing my homework for tomorrow. But from the good news: I'm finally putting some effort in ✨Notion✨! My phone's memory is saturated with notes, screenshots of stuff that I didn't want to forget. I chose to write down all the books that I was recommended, there are 127 books for the moment but it will get bigger. I want to see some progress in my life, leave my brain stagnation, time to take care of your mental health guuuuurrrrl
I can do this
Never back down never what?
NEVER GIVE UP

[02, Feb - 2023]
One month since I started learning French. It's kind of a challenging language to learn. There are a lot of silent letters and phonemes that I'm not used to.
Even worse, the gender of a variety of words change in comparation to my native language.
However there are in French some similar words to Portuguese and English what helps a lot!
I have been using duolingo. I know, I know! Not the best way to learn, but this is my current strategy to build a basic vocabulary so I will be able to use a grammar book soon.
I've been enjoying the journey. I hope to take it as far as I did with English. I'm looking forward to the day I will be capable of writing a text in French or read memes or have a conversation.
Anyway I'm still Learning English.
