It was only a matter of time. After two whole years... not one piece of art. I am ashamed.

Since im not very normal when it comes to designing im always more efficient when i design straight up on an illustration so here goes the main suitors :
Antinous (lionšŸ¦) : loud arrogant and imposing. Will laugh at your face and threaten you in cold blood.
Eurymachus (snakešŸ): hypocrite manipulative conniving bitch. Will gaslight you with a kind smile. Hates mediocrity
Amphinomous (bearšŸ») : he's the answer to choosing a man or a bear. Not inherently evil. He thinks the beggar is funny (not knowing its ody). He is just a guy who's easily influenced by his terrible friends.

Bruh I spent more time on the suitors' dead bodies than on Odysseus and Telemachus. But like, have this picture of "I Can't Help But Wonder", and also this took 16 hours, please appreciate it.

love that, in the Odyssey, there's one suitor (Leodes) who very specifically didnā€™t do anything wrong. he didnā€™t eat too much food, he didnā€™t harass the staff, he didnā€™t plot to kill Telemachus. and when Odysseus starts killing suitors, he begs for mercy because he was always respectful and kind and even tried to stop the other suitors from being like that
and I love that Odysseus was like ā€œyou were trying to marry my wife thoā€ and immediately kills him

Just realized that if only Poseidon went straight to Ithaca and asked for Odysseus, Penelope could do the biggest gamble of them all and get one of the suitors in SUCH DEEP SHIT.
Poseidon: "Odysseus of Ithaca! Tell me this instant where is this mortal who dared to hurt my son and try to lie about his name!
Penelope: ...
Suitors: ....
Penelope: *weaving stops*
Penelope: *pointing right at Antonius* There he is! This one is Odysseus, my husband and king of Ithaca! Please don't sink us, almighty god of the sea!
Antonius: What? I'm not Odysseus, I--
Penelope: Of course he would say that! He's a liar!
Poseidon: *has no reason to not believe her, wipes him out effortlessly*
Then Odysseus comes back like "It's me, Penelope! Your husband!"
Penelope: "No, you're not. From now on your name is Agamemnon the Greater and the new lover I marry to make king."
Odysseus: *grumbling* why after Agamemnon though...
AND HOW WOULD POSEIDON EVER KNOW?!

Gotta love the guy who saw Odysseus kill dozens of suitors in the blink of an eye and still thought he had a chance

I find this dichotomy so funny:
Odysseus, who has been in war for years and is quick to be crafty and trick his enemies: *laments and mourns giving up mercy and being forced to become the monster*
Telemachus, the one with a reputation of being small and weak with a good heart: *kills a man from behind while theyā€™re distracted without any hesitation or remorse*

sorry for bringing up stupid discourse in the middle of the night again. remembered the time someone tagged my homophrosyne post complaining that odysseus gets to sleep around while loudly proclaiming that he'll kill his wife if she cheats. which: absolutely did not happen! not in homer's odyssey!
as i alluded to in that post, there is an implied threat to penelope. but it's not implied in anything odysseus says about or to her! i would argue that it's most heavily implied in how the telemachia is framed by the house of atreus drama. orestes has recently avenged his father's death at the hands of his mother's lover; it stands to reason (so the story would go) that if penelope were to accept a suitor, they would pose a threat to odysseus, and telemachus would have to avenge him. that is the implied layout of the poem. which it then subverts time and again by none of that happening with odysseus, penelope, and telemachus.
and it's also implied by the gendered double standards around marital fidelity in a multi-thousand-year-old text, which are overarching, and not particularly shocking in that context. i find it completely disingenuous to make it an odysseus problem when there is so much going on in their marriage that's more interestinggg
