So how do you color? You said you don't color that way anymore (in the mega ask thing) and I'm curious because I want to become a better artist and you are my favorite (also I took pics of these piranhas my friends own if you are interested)
HMM the biggest difference between how i Used to color and how i do it now is that almost everything ends up shoved onto one layer! im using photoshop cs2, but id imagine most drawing probably have something similar to what im doing
like. lets walk through coloring this little monster head, somethin quick
first the sketch, then outline on a new layer, so youve got your base lineart and everything (i usually dont label layers but itll make it easier to tell whats goin on ayy)
THEN i make a new layer underneath the lines, and fill in everything i plan on coloring with one solid hue. it doesnt matter what color it IS, as long as everything within the lines is touched
NEXT i lock the layer as seen up top, which makes it so any lines i put down afterwards on that layer will ONLY effect the places where ive already drawn (aka, the big color blob)
THEN with the layer locked ill go in and make the flats, filling in the basic colors for what goes on what. thats followed by taking a really dark color, setting a bursh on a super low opacity, and going in for the shadows and highlights, once again all on the same dang layer.
it took me a REALLY long time before i was confident enough to actually try this ! and with things that im nervous with, i still split up the flats and shading in case i really mess up
AFTERWARDS i make a new layer right over the lineart, take a really fine brush, (usually around three-five pixels depending on the canvas) select a color slightly lighter than the colors surrounding it, and go RIGHT ALONG over the top edge of the lineart. i also use this tiny brush to fill in little details, like highlights or fur !
FINALLY i got back to the lineart layer, lock THAT one, take another brush on a low opacity, and start blending in the lineart with the color inside so the contrast isnt so harsh. and thats it ! honestly there still a LOT of issues with this system i need to work out, but im gonna keep going till i get there

The Sonic franchise is no stranger to slipping in references, but many don’t know of the subtle easter egg in Metal Overlord’s transformation sequence.
Given the fragile nature of times you can tell why they removed this from the final game.
