someone said it on twitter but i can’t find it - but it’s astonishing how people found it more believable that a woman in her 20s concocted a scheme over multiple years to frame her millionaire, worldwide-famous actor husband of domestic abuse, as opposed to the possibility that this famous actor (who is almost 20 years her senior and has publicly-known problems with alcohol and drugs since the 90s) was so angry that his moment in hollywood had passed, he wasn’t as popular as he used to be, but that his wife was doing better at the box-office than he was, she wanted to leave him and he just couldn’t stand the idea of her being happy or financially stable without him. misogyny is a fabulous thing isn’t it.

Why we need to stop blaming survivors who take years to come forward:
*TW: Childhood Sexual Abuse*
[In light of Kevin Spacey being in court, I'm seeing alot of horrible discourse & I just want to add my exp so I don't scream profanities].
It takes years to report for so many reasons and I'm here to describe my personal experience, and just why it took so long to come forward. Only now 25 years after it started, am I able to write about it with some clarity instead of confusion.
I was just a child when it happened, in my formative years, considered one of the most important times for a developing child. I did not know, not fully anyway, how wrong it was, what happened to me, that it was a crime.
The person who did it, was fully known to everyone around me, and everyone loved (and still love) that version of the person they knew/know.
From about age 6, I was silently questioning if I'd dreamt it multiple times, or maybe what happened to me was just something that was supposed to take place. Did every _____ do this? Does every daughter have this happen to them? Is it all children my age maybe? I just couldn't make sense of it. In some ways, I still can't.
I didnt know the word pornography at such a young age, but the magazines my abuser would leave for me to find, left me confused, what are those people doing?
As I chug into my teenage years with these mixed memories, feelings, and now hormones, I spend more time with a friend, my best friend and later became my first girlfriend at 14. She had a similar thing happen to her too, multiple times just like me, except when she told a teacher she was taken from her mother and sister, into foster care. And that's how our relationship ended.
I didn't want to be separated from my younger sibling, of which we are immensely close. I have to protect this from happening to them, to us. A month later, I find out I'm going to be welcoming another sibling in 6 months. I sobbed at the thought of another sibling having to endure what I had, I have a baby to protect soon and it's not mine. I spent my teenage years with them as much as I could.
It wasn't until I turned 17, I realise the predator living around me, is only into girls. They continue watching me through cracks in the door, walking in when I'm in the bathroom doing anything, secretly going through my phone, taking me for driving lessons, keeping up work in the community, all the while dropping towel when I walk past the bedroom.
Somehow, I kept my wits about me, and at 18 left 300 miles in the opposite direction to University. My sibling could protect themselves now too. I had to say goodbye to my mum, she was still involved with him.
After 10 weeks at University, I was alone and isolated, I struggled to make friends, noone on my course lived anywhere near me. I was suggested to go to the University counsellor, where after 12 weeks, I had told her more or less everything.
It took me another 2 years and a failed relationship to summon the courage to ring the police, and now also explain why it had taken me so long and why would I go on driving lessons with the man that did this to me? And even now looking back, there were things I'd left out in my report. Because repressed memories really do exist and they're still affecting me to this day.
If you have ever felt the rushing wave of a memory you never had before, suddenly appear, I'm giving you such a big hug, because it's awful. It's like drowning where you stand and I've spent too long questioning my reality.
The next time you wonder why it took someone so long to speak up, it's not just about that. It takes years of mental torture and so much silent work to undo damage that should have never been there in the first place.
Standing with the men who are speaking up💜

My explanation for how Zuko got his scar in a modern AU is usually something like Kevin Spacey's character in Pay It Forward.

(I'm not explicit but TW/SA)
Hi Dani darling, I'm in bed a little sick because of the high temperatures in my country (fuck everyone who doesn't believe in global warming) and you see, sometimes I watch crime videos on YouTube and I was watching one about female actresses crimes, about coercion and SA, I got to thinking about Max's work at TLND.
Will Max and Rafe ever find out about Joshua Rain? I understand that parents have secrets, to take care of themselves. But these types of secrets always come to light. My mother has told me things after ten or fifteen years, when I am ready to know and understand them. When it is inevitable that you will find out.
And I was thinking that Max is working at the same workplace as Joshua, and I remember that Shinyun was going to do everything possible to stop Joshua from getting any more jobs. And maybe she has made a difference. But if we're honest, Joshua is a man. In the modeling industry. And Joshua was a really talented man, from what Magnus tells us, he was creating something incredible. And society tends to forgive abusive men if they are talented. They never really lose.
Maybe he's downgraded, but I don't think they've been able to completely remove him. And Joshua must blame Magnus and Shinyun for what happened. I wondered if Max will ever hear his name passing by or see him at an event and Shinyun tell him not to approach him, if she will have to explain to him that she did everything she could to make Joshua disappear.
I don't know, it just came to my mind because I'm sick looking at the ceiling. You probably haven't thought that much in that idiot Joshua.
I'm just overthinking. I miss reacting to TLND💔
Hi lovely.
I hope you are feeling better. High temperatures fucking suck. It was the same here in mid January. But things are a little better now. Hope the climate improves for you too!
This is a great question!
In my head, no, Max (or Rafe) doesn't find out about Joshua. It's not necessarily a secret that Magnus/Alec keeps. But more like, it has nothing to do with the kids. Sometimes telling people things they don't need to know can actually do more harm than good. So, no, Max doesn't know.
I can see Magnus telling his children about Camille though. That makes sense to me and that's something Magnus might feel comfortable doing much later on.
As for Joshua, well, I'd like to think he really fucked off. I know the patriarchy sucks and accountability is a joke. But I do see that things are changing slowly (not fast enough but still). He could be like the Kevin Spacey of the fashion model. Never to be seen again. He's probably doing some stuff still, but no one knows and no one cares. Good.
PS - Even if Joshua disappeared, it doesn't mean he stopped being abusive. He's probably harassing someone somewhere else, someone who can't probably speak up or get away. This was why it was CRUCIAL that they reported him. But we know that didn't happen sigh (impunity is free and readily available for men like him sigh).

Week 6 - A #CancelCulture Crisis (TW - Sexual assault and abuse)
Nowadays whenever someone does or says something wrong, be it defending a convicted criminal or something much more trivial, the first instinct a lot of people on the internet have is to “cancel them” In recent years the term “Cancel Culture” grown ever more prominent, with nearly everyone who uses the internet regularly being familiar with this term. But what is “Cancel Culture”, and is it actually useful?
The basic dictionary definition of “Cancel Culture” is defined as “the practice or tendency of engaging in mass canceling as a way of expressing disapproval and exerting social pressure” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.) In simpler terms, cancel culture is a collective boycott done by the masses or common-folk like you and I directed towards something or someone after a perceived wrongdoing. It’s also a phenomenon that happens primarily on its birthplace, the internet, and is usually used to shed light on something horrible that has happened for the purpose of seeking justice for the victims or prevention from it happening again.
Social media has also been pivotal in cancel culture’s rise. When we think about some of the prominent “cancellations” that pushed cancel culture into the forefront of everyone’s minds and vocabulary, disgraced celebrities like R. Kelly, Louis C. K. and Kevin Spacey usually come to mind given their various sexual assault and abuse crimes were heavily talked about when cancel culture was becoming prominent. (Lo-Booth, 2024) Hashtags like #MuteRKelly were plastered across social media, an incident which can be considered a success for cancel culture and what it stands for.
Born in 2017 and popularized in 2018, #MuteRKelly was a campaign launched by two grassroots activists seeking to put him behind bars for his numerous crimes. And these crimes weren’t new either. For years rumors of his abhorrent conduct towards young black and brown children and especially young women were circulating with numerous attempts being made to draw attention to them but to no avail. However, in the eve of a concert R. Kelly was set to have in Atlanta, the hashtag was launched and quickly morphed into an international campaign to bring R. Kelly to justice. (Barnes, 2021) And it worked! In June of 2022 R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his crime of using his celebrity status to sexually abuse children and women. (Savage, 2023)
Now while that’s all well and good, there have been times cancel culture has backfired spectacularly. Remember earlier when I mentioned Louis C.K.? In 2017 he was hit with allegations from five different women who accused the comedian of masturbating in their presence as well as committing other sexually inappropriate acts towards them. While he previously denied the allegations ultimately C.K. admitted to his wrongdoings and spent the next five years laying low in the media’s eye whilst still selling out dozens of comedy shows. And then he won a Grammy. (Jones, 2022)
In 2022 C.K. took home the Grammy for “best comedy album” from the 64th Grammy awards beating out five other nominees. Naturally the internet was in uproar, but this isn’t the first time cancel culture has resulted in a temporary solution to a much bigger problem. Musicians like Micheal Jackson and yep, even R. Kelly, saw their music streams increasing despite decades of cancellations for their misdeeds. (ProCon, 2020)
So is cancel culture worth it? Well, yes. But also no…You see it depends on the context of the cancellation. When cancel culture is applied to a serious crime, like say sexual assault, then it’s absolutely worth it and even necessary. Yes streams for R, Kelly’s music did increase but he’s also in jail now and that’s partly thanks to cancel culture. However, the line gets blurred when the crime isn’t as clear cut as that.
In a world where social media condenses complicated social issues into minute-long exposes, something as complicated as human nature gets turned into a black or white issue where if you aren’t on the side of the cancellation it automatically makes you a bad person. In turn what this does is it discourages discussions, when in actuality a nuanced discussion is sometimes all that’s necessary. (Dudenhoefer, 2020)
At the end of the day, maybe that’s what we should all practice going forward. Encouraging discussions and actually listening to what’s being said in those conversations.

Oh, I understand how you might interpret it that way, but that’s not how I intended my post to come across. How to put it into words? Often, when people are talking about autism, they’re likely to associate that with pop culture figures that they know as autistic. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard “Oh, like Rain Man”, which never stops to make me roll my eyes. I’d rather have people mention Anthony Hopkins or Hannah Gadsby than Elon Musk. I feel that, if Elon Musk were to become the first person to think about when talking about autism, it might give people the wrong idea about autism: that it makes you inevitably an insufferable genius, kinda like Sheldon Cooper, when autism can come in many, many flavors.
To give you other examples, I’m guessing trans people would rather hear about Elliot Page or Laverne Cox rather than Caitlyn Jenner. Or it would rub gay people in the wrong way if the first gay person other people thought about would be Kevin Spacey.
We acknowledge that they’re part of our communities. But we’re not proud of that. A big part of us, anyway.
Elon Musk sucks shit and as an autistic person we don't claim him

It's funny how people say that Amber is hated because she is an abuser, so she deserved everything that is going on, but actual abusers didn't have to deal with this amount of hate, like Jeremy Renner, Ben Affleck, Nicolas Cage. Let's also talk about how they talk about how it's about male victims, but again, Kevin Spacey, who raped GUYS doesn't get this kind of hate either, so it's not about any of that, it's about the fact that she's a woman, who dared to go against the most popular pirate.
