In light of the recent public stances of many celebrities supporting Kevin Spacey, I want to reiterate my support of Rapp and Spacey's other victims.
I applaud his bravery to stand up against his abuser. I stand with all victims 🖖🏽.

someone said it on twitter but i can’t find it - but it’s astonishing how people found it more believable that a woman in her 20s concocted a scheme over multiple years to frame her millionaire, worldwide-famous actor husband of domestic abuse, as opposed to the possibility that this famous actor (who is almost 20 years her senior and has publicly-known problems with alcohol and drugs since the 90s) was so angry that his moment in hollywood had passed, he wasn’t as popular as he used to be, but that his wife was doing better at the box-office than he was, she wanted to leave him and he just couldn’t stand the idea of her being happy or financially stable without him. misogyny is a fabulous thing isn’t it.

Some of you antis are really starting to sound like John Doe from Se7en
That's not a compliment btw

Hey, I'm really sorry for asking this, but do you and how do you deal with any guilt for liking Hazbin Hotel? I think the controversies and antis have got to me because I can't watch it or any content without thinking about those.
I love the songs (both the show's and PARANOID DJ's because they're bangers) but I also can't help but think "am I a terrible person with bad taste for liking this?"
Parts of this show also just make me happy, especially Angel Dust. He became such a comfort to me after I went through a similar situation. Not as extreme, but it messed me up. And Alastor is just the best character to ever be created. He sings and dances and kills and eats people, what more could you want in a man? But yeah, I just want to enjoy the silly demon show without feeling gross afterward and I don't know how to shake that feeling off.
First of all, I don't have any guilt watching anything I enjoy.
Second of all, neither should you. And this is the problem with antis and "critics". No one should EVER be made to feel bad about liking anything. Hell, I'll even extend that thought to those who like Velma. I'll never understand it, but I can't hate you for liking something.
I know Vivzie is tied to a lot of controversies, but so what? More than half of them have been debunked or shown to have changed as she grew older. Even if you still feel iffy, Hazbin is more than just Vivzie. There's an entire crew attached to this show and they should not suffer bc of one person.
I mean, you've most likely played a game or watched a movie that has had a problematic person connected to it. Yeah, that person is scummy, but you can still enjoy the content that has them featured or they created bc...that doesn't define you as a person. What you like in fiction does not translate to real life.
It's different when it comes to someone like Onision, who's content is nothing but his life and about him. I'd be more disgusted if you liked him vs you liking Hopper from A Bug's life, despite him being played by Kevin Spacey. Awful person, but Hopper is disconnected from Spacey other than voice. Or liking a song by a problematic artist. You like the song, not the person.
Once again, YOU SHOULD NOT FEEL GUILTY FOR ENJOYING SOMETHING! NO ONE SHOULD EVER FEEL GUILTY FOR ENJOYING MEDIA THAT'S MEANT TO BE ENJOYED! VIVZIE MADE THE SHOW BUT SHE IS NOT THE SHOW!
Anyone who dares to feel self-righteous over a cartoon needs to get that tree branch out of their ass.

By JENNI FRAZER
Describing the climbing on to war memorials during anti-Israel protests as “very sinister” for Britain as well as the Jewish community, Murray said that “the British police have this view, which is not to escalate things. This is different from the view of the French police… in France, the president is allowed to ban protests.
“Macron banned the [anti-Israel] marches, and in the first week, they happened, the police intervened and they didn’t happen again. The police in the UK believe, don’t make a fuss, record it and maybe go in afterwards. But here’s the problem with that. This is something that the Jewish community can bring to the attention of the Metropolitan Police. The problem is that nobody notices when you do a morning arrest at a house in east London. What they notice is people standing in London calling for a Muslim army… and that footage goes around the world”.
“People need to tell police this is utterly unacceptable and that no community should be put through this,” Murray said. “If it was any other community, that community would raise hell”. He agreed with Louisa Clein that the police were fearful of being denounced as Islamophobic, but maintained that “police are meant to step in if they see people breaking the law”.
He added: “There’s not enough noise from the Jewish community about precisely this”, noting that the police were unlikely to fight harder for the community, if the Jewish community itself were not urging action.
Asked by Clein what she should say to her friends on the left, about how to balance their political beliefs with what Murray was saying about Israel and Hamas, the commentator was in no doubt: “Ask them to tell the truth. Look frankly at what is actually happening. I don’t care if I’m thought of as right-wing or not”. He urged those on the left to “listen to the testimony of those on the kibbutzim, who were far to the left of those you are talking about…
“If you go round the sites, you can see Peace Now stickers on what remains of somebody’s fridge. You speak to the people. I spoke to a man who had been on kibbutz all his life, total leftist, peace activist. He was in his safe room on October 7 with his wife and teenage son and daughter”.
The family had shut themselves in their safe room but were unable to lock it. Murray described how the father had held the door closed for a long time, but the terrorists had set fire to the house. The family opened the air vent and were attacked. “They killed his wife, put a Kalashnikov through the shutters and shot his 14-year-old son who bled out in front of him and his daughter”. The dying boy asked to be buried with his surfboard.
“He said to me, I’ve been a leftist all my life. But now I want nothing but potato fields from here to the Mediterranean. We can’t live with these people”. Murray said there were “hundreds” of stories like this. And he asked those on the left: “Have some empathy and understanding for the people who can no longer afford to dream the dreams you dream.”

Have you sorted the Hogwarts Legacy companions at all?? I checked your master list and couldn’t find anything but I’m not sure if I’m just being blind 💀😂
So here's the thing.
(And your ask is super nice and in absolute good-faith, it's just also a good way of getting into this stuff.)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is not Joss Whedon. House of Cards is not Kevin Spacey. But Harry Potter kinda is JK Rowling. She has an astounding and honestly pretty unique amount of both creative control and ownership over that property. The only other person I can think of who's even in the same category is George Lucas... before he sold it to Disney, obviously.
And JKR has written about how she interprets the royalty checks she gets as kind of tacit approval from the world, which makes sense because she's been also very public about how she spends those royalty checks to support anti-trans campaigners and legislation.
But. But. I get wanting to engage with the property. I mean, obviously. I'm going to tag this 'sortinghatchats.' The parent system is clearly HP, and the point of changing the terminology was never disguising that, it was more supposed to communicate that I am not engaging with the work or its creator uncritically. I think it's worked pretty well. I've gotten maybe one piece of anon hate calling me a terf? That's not bad.
I'm a teacher, and the place I work attracts a *lot* of LGBT students. Trans and non-binary especially. And they're interested in Harry Potter. They read a lot of Harry Potter fanfiction. They want to talk to me about Harry Potter, and about JK Rowling. I don't see this property fading away any time soon.
And like. I was a fan. I waited until midnight in a bookstore to get books 4, 5, 6 and 7. My Sibyl Trelawney came in second at the book 7 costume contest. Which was fine because the girl who won did the most perfect Hermione you've ever seen, and spent the whole time handing out SPEW badges and knitting house elf clothing.
Recently, I'm finding myself wanting to unpack this property as an adult. Maybe understand some of the biases I didn't pick up as a kid, maybe do right by some of my favorite characters. Because there's good stuff in there. How much was on accident versus on purpose, how much is the fandom interpreting the text in a specific way, how much is the films smoothing over issues... and creating different issues... I would like to work all that out.
And actually, when I started writing some Harry Potter fanfiction over the holidays, it came pouring out, and it felt *good.* Clearly I've got a lot of *stuff* that I want to examine and *put somewhere,* and for me, writing (ships that JKR doesn't like) was a fun and ethical way to do that. Maybe I'll even post it with a nice disclaimer.
So that's me. Fanfiction, fan side-projects, fan merch. I guess the argument against that would be "free advertising," but like - HP has so much just - actual advertising - and I'd like it if people who still wanted to engage with the property had somewhere else to go. So no Hogwarts Legacy for me, no Fantastic Beasts films, or HBO miniseries, or even Cormoran Strike books. (and people don't talk about this enough - but a big aspect of that series is essentially JKR writing a non-magic AU where she ships herself with Mad-Eye Moody. I have no idea what to do with this information, but now you have it too.)
I could see myself writing more about JKR or Harry Potter, once I've turned it over more in my mind and feel like I have something useful and new to say. But as it is, this is a snapshot of where I am.

My boyfriend has decided to start watching The Daily Show with Jon Stewart from episode one to see how it evolves. So in case you were wondering if he and I are similar-minded folk...
Last Lee Tonight (wherein Lee gets slightly personal) Season One, Episode Eight
(original air date: 6/24/2014) Major topics covered: Monarchies, Dr. Oz
Trigger warning: brief discussion of Kevin Spacey/sexual assault; medical issues
"Let's deal with the elephant in the room tonight. I'm sorry that Game of Thrones is not on anymore."
Y'all. It has happened. We have reached the first episode where the only clip of the show on the LWT YouTube is the main topic.
This marks an exciting new era of these recaps... for now. Next week the videos seem to be a bit more scattershot again. Whatever, progress towards the future is being made!
Another major milestone is hit in this episode, as it is the first time that John wears something I would categorize as daring. Let's get "Lee's outfit review and thirst corner" out of the way - pink and purple checkered shirt with dark navy (almost black) coat and matte slate gray tie. I'm giving this a 9/10 because I feel like a shiny slate gray tie would have given it that extra 'oomph', but it is still an excellent look.
We start tonight with me really noticing the Ferris wheel in the corner of the screen for the first time. It's a bold ass Ferris wheel. Was that there before??
Jesus that's a neon Ferris wheel.
This episode starts similarly to modern LWTs, except John says "Quick roundup of the week" instead of "quick recap of the week" to kick us off. I did not realize how ingrained some of his speech patterns and word choices are in my head until this specific phrasing. It's one thing to see something completely different from what you're used to, like in past episodes of the show; this is a tweak I feel like few people would notice, and yet it stuck out like a sore thumb to me.
We start in Iraq, wherein Baghdad has fallen to ISIS. John makes a joke about Kevin Spacey's sex dungeon being the former scariest place in the world that got a huge laugh - three years before Anthony Rapp came forward with his story. His behavior was such an open secret, it's so gross.
The opening segment bounces from Iraq to Thailand, where a coup just occurred and the new regime has started a "happiness campaign". This is the kind of story John loves, absolutely ridiculous on its face with a very real undercurrent of torment because of its origins.
Finally in our early stories, Antarctic tourism! That phrase makes me vaguely ill. John is on top of creating the anti-tourism trailer for them:
youtube
Interesting to look at this short bit in comparison to a much larger exploration of a similar topic years later, Mt. Everest expeditions. Obviously that was a full episode segment as compared to the 3-ish minutes Antarctic tourism gets here, but it's a good illustration of just how much more in-depth John is allowed to go on these kinds of niche topics as the years wear on.
John then speaks about the King of Spain abdicating the throne. ("Who needs decapitations or poisonings when you have a 76-year-old man peacefully resigning?") This gives John the opportunity to mock monarchy, his favorite sport, and to mention the LA Kings, something I did not expect. This transitions into speaking about the general idea of monarchy, how just about every European royal is related to the English crown, and Middle Eastern royalty. He ties it back to the Thailand section as well, to discuss the Crown Prince of Thailand, who is, according to the news, "a buffoon".
Next is "And Now This", which discusses "Political Figures Telling You What They Are Not". Fucking Michele Bachmann shows up again, as does professional dingo Tom Wheeler. Christ I hate Michele Bachmann.
With that, about halfway into the episode (13 minutes), we now get to our main story. Truly, this is the basic structure of a modern LWT!
youtube
The main story is about Dr. Oz, someone who time has made much, MUCH more odious. It's not like Dr. Oz wasn't a complete shithead at the time of this episode - his pitching for huckster diet solutions and miracle pills towards vulnerable people is disgusting. I have so much loathing for people who do this. A huge part of why my health problems are so bad is because, around the time this episode aired, I, and people around me I trusted, were influenced by guys like him, guys selling folksy cure-alls or "conventional wisdom". In my case, this influence caused me to not seek medical treatment for obvious, glaring, red-flag stomach issues for nearly two years, at which point I was actively dying. (I wish that the key for me to go see a doctor had been this episode, but it was not.)
But Dr. Oz got so much worse as time went on. I'm glad that, aside from one joke early on about Dr. Oz's (relative) attractiveness, John puts Dr. Oz's feet to the fire the entire segment. And not just him!
I remember learning about how the FDA is not allowed to regulate vitamins and supplements and being absolutely flabbergasted. Everyone knows that there's hundreds of deaths connected to tainted or irresponsible dietary supplements, and John firmly roasts senators Orrin Hatch and Tom Harkin for taking huge amounts of campaign contributions from the supplement industry and them subsequently killing attempts to regulate said industry. I appreciate the work put in here.
I love how silly the pandering demonstration is. Puts such a massive smile on my face. I would be remiss to not remind you that John Oliver fucking loves t-shirt cannons, and his obvious delight and power trip at holding and using one makes me beam every single time I see this.
Other notes:
Lee, you already did the suit review: Yeah sure I did. But consider the way that John says "regulatory zeal" at 9:52 in the Dr. Oz clip while snapping his fingers and barely restraining his anger.
"Check This Shit Out with Some Guy Named Mehmet" is an amazing title for a show.
I can't believe I can't find the GIF of John getting nailed with a t-shirt cannon from The Daily Show. I think Wyatt shot him with it. I'm glad I remember literally everything about this except where to find the GIF itself.
Sorry about getting a bit personal in this one. I know I don't talk much about my personal life, aside from being like "damn I'm at work all the time", but rest assured I am much better now and in good health. I have chronic illness so I'll never be 100%, but I am leagues away from where I was when my untreated illness was at its worst. <3
#john oliver#last week tonight#last week tonight with john oliver#last lee tonight#i definitely don't want to tag anything else from this episode lol

Is there any proof that CW imposes or asked Misha to be bi or imply it? Or anyone that has worked for the CW?
Sorry if I misunderstood this ask, but I think you have it backwards? Tinhats believe that the reason that their celebrity/public figure is not publicly out is due to PR. This is true to some extent.
DJ Qualls only recently came out, even though it was well known that he liked men. There were many rumors about Kevin Spacey before he publicly came out. There's a leading man that I hear many rumors about in queer circles and on gossip pages, but I'm not going to post his name here because I think people are entitled to their privacy. I don't know much about this man, but these rumors seem more credible than any CW actor, in part, because this leading man has more to lose.
More than that, the CW wouldn't be the one deciding if an actor should come out or not. Often this is a decision that an actor makes based on their ability to land certain roles and their fear of landing those roles becoming endangered if it is publicly known that they like men. These are usually actors who are playing leading men in romances.
DJ's career wasn't challenged by him coming out now, although it could have been negatively impacted had he come out earlier.
PR is something that people often over- and underestimate in fandom depending on their approach. I think a lot of underestimating comes from people not realizing that officials are involved in certain projects or how they are involved. For example, Kings of Con isn't just something a pair of friends are doing, but they also have investors. Those investors probably aren't controlling R2 to a high degree, it's just that R2 are being mindful of how their content will be perceived by their investors.
There's a lot of PR around casts all being friends and loving each other. Most of the time, this is PR. But at the same time, if there are people who are fighting in the cast, that information gets out. It's really well known that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson had lots of conflicts on the X-Files set, something that they have now both admitted in public. Samantha didn't return to the Sex in the City revival due to conflicts with her actress.
Multiple people, including people who are known for being open and honest and not bowing to PR, like Mark Sheppard, have talked about how genuine J2 are and how they have a real friendship.
For example, there are antis on both sides who try to claim that anytime J2 do something affectionate and brotherly together, that's just PR, but PR doesn't work like that. PR wouldn't forced them to get meals together in the evenings outside of the con, especially when they aren't announcing that they are getting the meals together.
If they aren't announcing it and we are finding out about it from third parties, or a casual mention as part of a larger story, then you know that it's not PR.
I expect when the revival really kicks off, we are going to see more brotherly posts from the Js about each other, and that will be PR, not because they don't genuinely have that relationship (they do!), but because they are promoting that relationship to support more Supernatural. (See 2015 social media.)
So if Misha was queer, there would be no problem with him coming out based on the type of actor that he is and the current climate. In fact, him coming out as straight put a lot of egg on his face, and was bad PR. This was a choice that Misha made. Nobody told him to do any part of it, and definitely not anybody from the CW!

Psycho Analysis Score Guide
Here's a helpful guide as to what the scores I give out mean.
EVILNESS
This score doesn't really effect the overall score of the villain in question, it's more just a way to show how evil they actually are.
1: Barely a villain. A villain in name only, or a really dark anti-hero. Probably ends up swirching sides to the good guys with little provocation. Think Kronk from The Emeperor's New Groove.
2: Jerks, bullies, and other dickheads. Not really evil, but they're genuinely unpleasant and antagonistic. Think various anime or RPG rivals like Blue Oak, Seto Kaiba, or Silver.
3: Tragic villains. Sure, they committed murder. Maybe they framed someone for a crime. Perhaps they made some horrible choices that cost people their lives. But they aren't completely bad, and the narrative goes out of its way to paint a picture of a flawed but not irredeemable antagonist. Think Pterano from The Land Before Time VII.
4: Just a straight up awful person. They go beyond being a jerk, but their villainy is still relatively tame in the grand scheme of things. Think Vicky from Fairly OddParents.
5: A balanced villain. This is a villain where they are most definitely not a good person, and they do commit some evil acts, but the narrative either doesn't make clear how bad what they did really is or otherwise has some level of sympathy for the villain to make their poor moral choices understandable. Think Princess Azula of Avatar: The Last Airbender or Patrick Bateman of American Psycho (the latter is an extremely complicated case, though).
6 - 7: A real bad guy. Your typical villain you'd see on a kid's show, where they want to do something really broad like take over the world/city/tri-state area, but never really go much further than that. Think villains like Mojo Jojo from Powerpuff Girls or Plankton from SpongeBob SquarePants. The higher the number, the badder they are.
8: A "well-intentioned" villain. A villain who commits horrible acts, but has some level of reasoning behind them that might make you nod and go, "Huh, they might have a point." Of course, they probably don't and are just using a thin veneer of nobility to excuse their horrible actions, and are more driven by their own egos than good intentions. Think Thanos from the MCU, Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising, or Enrico Pucci from Stone Ocean.
9: A morally reprehensible bastard. A thoroughly rotten villain with maybe a few faint glimmers of good in them, but they're pretty far gone and revel in being bad too much. Manfred von Karma of Ace Attorney would land here.
10: A complete monster. They are absolutely, utterly irredeemable and commit some of the most heinous acts imaginable. Think serial killers like Buffalo Bill from The Silence of the Lambs and John Doe from Se7en (or Kevin Spacey in real life).
VILLAIN SCORES
These are what the actual ratings I give the villains mean.
1: The worst.
2: Mediocre villains. Bland, boring, not the worst but who honestly cares about these guys? This is the score that a generic military leader bad guy or a low-tier Bond villain would get.
3: A hilariously bad villain. Don't get it wrong, they still fail in numerous ways, but they fail in extremely entertaining ways that honestly make them better than villains with 4 and 5 scores.
4: A below average villain.
5: An average villain. They're serviceable.
6: An above average villain, though they probably aren't going to be anyone's favorite.
7: A really solid villain, though one that really could have used more fleshing out to really shine. It's the sort of score a perfectly average one-shot villain might get.
8: A truly great villain, though they're held back by a few flaws.
9: A fantastic villain, though not quite perfect.
10: The best of the best.
10.5: This is the only fractional score that deserves its own entry, because it denotes a villain who is great and iconic, but who hasn't left a massive impact on culture as of yet.
11: A villain who has literally changed fiction as we know it with their presence. We're talking Darth Vader, Fu Manchu, the Wicked Witch, Count Orlok and Count Dracula... These are the guys who come to mind when you think "villain."

Isn’t Morrisey super racist?
He’s been an open racist for god knows how long. Some specific things he’s done are; anti-Muslim organization, a fascist (not surprising considering since he has openly portrayed as this since the like 90s), and he calmly admitted that a young FOURTEEN year old Anthony Rapp was asking for it while being in Kevin Spacey’s bedroom. Also, he was interviewed once to Melody Pop as he stated that “Black Pop” was ruining his bands sales and declared that he “despises black modern music.”
Morrissey is a racist POS and is very problematic. Although I will admit I love their music, I certainly wouldn’t say I’ll defend his actions. Do I feel ashamed listening to their music? Sometimes, I know the difficulties of being a WOC and even if his racist comments and criticism are from years ago, these comments are still used and will be used against POC. it was still very embarrassing people still defended them. Anyway, Stan Mike Joyce for being an unproblematic drummer. (The rest of the unproblematic members too 😓)

you know one thing that drives me insane? calling people with a problem with Build antis.
I was around for the start of it in kpop with the only13 for Super Junior and blackout for Girls Generation, but like it's just morphed into something bizarre and incomprehensible.
is disliking someone for their consistent predatory actions which includes criminal offenses anti behavior? there are plenty of celebs I find distasteful and will roll my eyes at once in a while but I don't follow their careers. but to say *this* doesn't concern me and I should stop blogging about him and people who have a problem with his behavior makes them antis?
sure. I'm also a Johnny Depp anti. and a Kris Wu anti. and a Kevin Spacey anti. and a Woody Allen anti. and a Harvey Weinstein anti. I hate people with power who abuse women and vulnerable others. I'm anti violence against women.

So... to recap:
We have canceled Tiffany Hadish for acting on the comedy sketch 'Mind of a Pedophile', one of the co-creators of Rick & Morty for domestic abuse, one of the main actors in Wednesday for being a sexual predator, the entirety of Pantera for racist remarks / Nazi behaviour, R Kelly & Kevin Spacey for sexual abuse & Danny Masterson for rape, Jada Smith for... I don't actually know why we canceled her, but we canceled her this year after canceling Will in 2022 for his reaction to Chris Rock's joke, we finally canceled James Cordon for his horrific behaviour towards wait staff in a restaurant, and we still haven't come full circle & uncanceled Armie Hammer for those false serial killer, rapist & cannibalism accusations which were made public & which ruined his entire life & career & wound up in a whole-ass documentary, which was all later revealed to be false and the interactions were 100% consensual & he never killed anyone & just likes BDSM & vore, yet hasn't been able to make a come back because hey, we canceled him for being bad... oh, and we're in the process of canceling 2 of the richest men in the entire world, 3 governments and one of the largest agricultural movements in human history....
We have done all of that in the last 12 months. And yet we still haven't been able to agree on canceling a woman who *checks notes* has stated she dies not care about children, condones conversion therapy on LGBTQ+ children, thinks autistic people should not be entitled to autonomy over their bodies, medical procedures, money / bank accounts or life choices, kept her mouth shut when someone was paralysed from doing a stunt on the set of a movie based on her books, spreads allegations that all trans women are predators, all trans men are mentally ill & coerced, and all trans children have been sexually abused, has stated & joled about the fact she values her bank account and money more than she values the wellbeing of those who gave her her career & platform in the first place, celebrated closing down a transgender children's suicide hotline by having her supporters flood it with abuse and threats, has openly stated she knowingly put anti-LGBTQ propaganda in her children's books, has been arrested, has filed lawsuits against people who disagreed with her online, and whose actions have been condoned by Vladimir Putin.
Despite all of that, we still haven't canceled her, and we can't even agree to not read her godfucking books anymore or not watch those movies or not buy the genocidal computer games from that franchise. Are you fucking serious?

So someone thought it’d be a good idea to interview Armie Hammer and get his side of the story so to speak and it pretty much was a Kevin Spacey type of excuse like he basically said he’s abusive cause he was abused by a youth pastor as a preteen and has a warped view of sexuality due to it. This feels like the scene is being set for a redemption narrative and comeback and I hate it!
I saw and I haven’t taken the time to read it but it’s very frustrating. And a casual anti woke cancel culture mob rant from him at the end. Lots of people have been hurt badly and have warped views of sex and don’t ever rape anyone or have rape allegations! But yes. Pity party time. Ugh.
