So I have a deep appreciation for late night host John Oliver and all he does, but I have an even greater love for one of his running gags. In several of his episodes he flashes up a joke alternative title card for his show and I have been collecting screenshots of these cards. Here is my collection.

shoutout to john oliver for very clearing saying out loud on his hbo show that's also posted on his 10 million subscriber youtube channel that israel is very much committing genocide in palestine. he's always been very outspoken and educating on current issues in his show and this is another big step up on getting the general public who may not be up to date on this topic to pay more attention

Leave it to John Oliver for retelling the VERY infamous Thomas the Tank Engine episode (the “Henry’s punishment” episode) as a way to describe America’s current freight train industry!

there needs to be a conversation about how true, actual left-wing ideals can only get into mainstream news through political satire and comedy. jon stewart and john oliver, for example, can go further left than other news broadcasts and shed light on issues that are ignored by democrats because they are funny. they make just enough jokes to keep you from getting too uncomfortable while discussing some very heavy-handed topics like war, genocide, and systemic oppression.

John Oliver on the Trayvon Martin verdict.
(Somebody asked for it so I'll put it here as well)
The general consensus is that this is the episode that made HBO really sit up & take notice. Not only for his clearly frustration & personal opinion filled segment on the verdict itself (something he was personally very worried about - see timestamped interview below although do watch it all if you haven't, its hilarious in hindsight to hear John say he doesn't think anything will change for him after hosting TDS) but there was also a very funny desk segment with Al Madrigal AND this is the episode where the studio lost power & he had to interview Aaron Sorkin in the dark. This was only his 14th show, not even half way through his hosting stint.
