I know this has already been said and I’m super late, but Mia as the protag of RE8 would have been so good. The contrast between Mia, the Lords, and Mother Miranda would have been absolutely interesting. I'm shoving everything under a read more because damn I have so many thoughts about Mia.

Lady Dimitrescu is a woman that cannibalizes and drinks the blood of her servants and intruders. On top of that, she tortures before preying on them. She does this willingly and very much derives pleasure from doing so. Lady D’s gothic triplets hunt any poor fool that wanders in. It’s a fun family activity for them just as much as it’s for sustenance. 

Do you know what this parallels? The Baker family under Eveline’s control. They patrol the estate and anyone who rejects the “gift” either ends up molded or on the dinner table. This family also partakes in a fucked up version of a family dinner, eating the victims that refused their little girl’s “gift.” 

However, a major difference between the Baker and Dimitrescu family is their willingness to participate in these activities. A family of cannibals; one forced while the other relishes in it. 

Mia is still very traumatized by her three years in the Baker’s estate. Breaking into the castle to find her daughter would force her back. Hello to all the emotions that come with those memories, the ones Mia has been trying to forget. The harder you try to forget something, the more you think about it. What better way to make Mia acknowledge Dulvey, Louisiana than by forcing her into something so similar? 

And while she’s still reeling from remembering her time in captivity, why not push her a bit further down memory lane with House Beneviento? Mia has demonstrated at multiple points in RE7 that she does care about other lives. She lies to Ethan to keep him from getting caught up in her work. She tries to save Alan and crew members of "The Annabelle" (the crew members are a bit more indirect, she mainly focused on Alan) by containing Eveline. After Jack finds her, Mia keeps her distance to keep from infecting them while trying to write a warning. She tries her hardest during RE7 to save Ethan. 

Mia’s hallucinations could center on her guilt. The failure to stop Eveline and the lives ruined as a result. How she was always too late to help anyone. Ethan curing her, a criminal, over Zoe, the person helping him. Leaving Zoe behind in the shattered remains of her home and family. Surviving. Visions of Ethan hinting at his “condition” could lure her to the manor. A little nudge to the whole “he was mold the entire time” plot twist without fully giving it away. 

Moreau, lacking in self worth and very attached to a woman who doesn’t give him the time a day, yet still he considers her as his mother. Most of his actions are for the attention and validation from his “mother.” No matter what Moreau does, he’ll never have her affection or time. It’s sad, isn’t it? To witness a man try so hard only to be rejected. And isn’t that familiar? Mia once felt compassion for someone with similar traits. 

Remember the little girl who considered you her mother? The one that spent three years waiting for you to love her after you promised? The one you had a hand in killing? What makes you think you could ever be a good mother after what you did? Why are you trying so hard to save Rose when you didn’t even extend the same courtesy to Eveline?

Y’all know how Mia’s past is a mystery? Like why she was working for the Connections and how she was even recruited and all that. Heisenberg would be a great way to explore it. A man taken, forced into becoming something else, and stuck in a family he doesn’t want. Mia can relate. He wants to use her daughter as a weapon. She was willing to let another child be used as a weapon. They’re alike, so surely Mia would be willing to side with him.

But Heisenberg is cocky and Mia isn’t the person she was prior/during 7. Even if she was on board with using Eveline as a weapon to end all wars or whatever bullshit the Connections told her, she’s not willing now. Not after what she’s seen and been through. This section could be Heisenberg goading her through the tvs/intercoms about her past to change her mind with Mia remaining steadfast in her refusal.

And then there’s Mother Miranda. Two mothers trying to get their daughters back through vastly different means. Because of the group photo showing Mia and Miranda with Eveline this encounter can go one of two ways. 

Miranda and Mia know each other and have worked together before. Whether it be on the E-Series Project (with Mia becoming the caretaker and spending copious amounts of time at the lab) or though some other means at work. 

They’ve only briefly met when the Connections were in a hurry to transport Eveline.

Either way, Miranda would compare them. As a mother, Mia must understand what she’s trying to accomplish. Would Mia not do the same as she? Maybe at this point Miranda shows she killed Ethan to demoralize to prevent her from interfering with the ceremony. Tells her she’s too late once again and to give Rose to her because she’ll be the superior mother.

Idk, I guess you could switch to Ethan instead of Chris so he can still have Eveline tell him he’s moldy. But he’s a stubborn man and he forces himself back to weaken Miranda so Mia can kill her. Chris shows up and Ethan does the same thing he did at the end by blowing himself up with Chris forcing Mia (with Rose) on the helicopter. That way the Shadow of Rose DLC can still be about Rose and Ethan. 

TLDR; Mia should have been the protagonist because it would have allowed us to explore her character and background more. It was a missed opportunity especially since so much of RE8 centers around mothers. It would have played out better as closing off the Winters Family saga as well since we could have tied the loose ends that came with Mia’s mysterious past.

And yes!!! I've been obsessed with chb since like 2nd grade and it still is one of my favorite book series 😭❤️ All of the characters are so special to me but I have a special fondness for Nico as one of the first openly gay characters (eventually ykwim) I ever read about :,) it made me so happy to have a character I already loved be relatable ig???? Either way top tier series 10/10

AND YEAH I was going to maybe make a few different fics in the same universe bc I love my ranpoe ideas so far but also like you said the kunikida and dazai (platonic or romantic tbh) has so much potential I love it so much and the sskk or akuatsulucy would have so many interesting dynamics imo ajdjskakak

But for ranpoe I was thinking of having poe as one of the older camp members help out during orientation week (ango is counselor bc poe would NOT be willing to go to meetings and stuff) but he still helps out with the younger campers by giving riddles to the kids to help teach them about the camp but also to let the Athena kids know they're in a place where they can totally nerd out?? But ranpo shows up with yosano and basically calls the riddles dumb and obvious and bc calling an Athena kid an idiot is like a CRIME poe develops a huge grudge ajsjskak

But tbh I'm thinking of letting myself stray from the Canon meeting and do smth more camp rivalry,, not sure though

And the fic takes place over a couple years probably with ranpo yosano and poe being year round campers and Lucy being a summer camper,, it's also probably more domestic than adventurous like no godly wars and stuff lmao but capture the flag and camp gossip 100%

Also poe being a certified goth is one of the first ppl to treat yosano like she's any normal camper outside of her immediate family so that's how he and ranpo start to interact more often

But if you have any plot ideas I would actually LOVE to hear them bc I've only really been worldbuilding so far ajsjskakakak

And I definitely want to write a fic about dazai first arriving at camp and meeting kunikida but I'm not sure if I want to throw chuuya in the mix or not bc I think an ares Apollo dionysius dynamic would slap ajsjskak

And how does it feel to be RIGHT akutagawa is totally fulfilling that role he's filled with the same kind of anger towards Hermes for not being there when he and gin needed him that luke had but also fueled by his need for dazai's approval that he just isn't getting with hermes' god given abilities

ALSO I HAVE I LOVE THAT AU I was trying so hard to find someone to make a child of aphrodite I think she's so fun

AND YEAH some god just claims ranpo for the bit 😭😭😭 and it's a minor god so whenever someone is like "well what abilities do you have" ranpo is just like "that's so insensitive you didn't bother learning the lore behind my godly parent? How does it feel to be super disrespectful" Until they shut up ajdjskka

And for a snippet tbh there's not a lot written rn but here's a conversation after the first meeting where Lucy gets poe's dramatic ass out of the Athena cabin 😭

Lucy unceremoniously plops herself on the floor next to him, leaning against the bed frame with crossed arms. Edgar doesn’t move. Maybe if he stays completely still, she won’t be able to see him. Like that one dinosaur. Actually, Edgar is pretty sure that was already debunked, but whatever.

Unfortunately, Lucy is a bit better at tracking down her targets than a hypothetical dinosaur, which Edgar would have to hope, seeing as the dinosaurs haven’t been able to track down prey for a while. But that means he’s pretty sure she knows he’s there. It may also be because the blanket he has wrapped around his shoulders was a gag gift from one of his juniors, with cartoon raccoons in outrageously bright colors adorning both sides. Or because his real raccoon, Karl, is pawing at his knees.

Rather than point any of that out, though, Lucy picks Karl up and places him in her lap, scratching behind his ear before taking a deep breath.

“Raccoons are rodents, right? Like big rats?” she asks, not quite to Edgar but not not to Edgar. He grits his teeth, because he knows where this is going. “Or are they mammals?”

Edgar stays stubbornly silent.

(Raccoons are mammals, by the way. But they aren’t rodents. They’re a member of the Carnivora order, as opposed to the Rodentia. Mammals and rodents aren’t even the same level of classification. He knows this, she knows this, and she knows he knows this.)

“But, like,” she continues flippantly, well aware of just how badly Edgar itches to correct her. “They’d be pretty big rodents. Isn’t there one rodent that’s really big? Like, really big. It starts with a 'C,' I think. Eh, maybe Karl’s bigger actually.”

Capybara, Edgar says in his mind. But he can’t say it—he can’t let her win. He’s going to remain entirely silent until Lucy gets bored and he can be left to wallow in peace.

“Oh! It’s a condor, right?”

Edgar blinks, for once, genuinely baffled. Before he can stop himself, he squints, and—

“Condors are birds,” he hisses, and then he freezes entirely. Shit. Her grin is conniving, mixed with pride and victory, and Edgar groans.

“Why does that work every time?” he asks.

“Because you’re a snob who can’t help but correct people,” she answers cheerfully. He never should have given her that animal facts book. How was he supposed to know she would just use it to quote incorrect facts at him whenever he clammed up?

She was right, though. He did love correcting people. He's pretty sure he got it from his mother.

“So,” she deposits Karl onto his legs, “Why are you moping?”

“I’m not moping.”

“Sure, sure. Why were you hiding in the corner of the room with a blanket over your head and being sad, then?”

Edgar doesn’t bother commenting on that entirely inaccurate portrayal of his actions. “You know why.”

She groans, “So what if that newbie solved your case? You’ve got plenty of others.”

“He publicly humiliated me!” Edgar protests. He should have brought harder cases. Even if they were for an orientation event. “He called me an idiot.”

“I call you an idiot all the time?”

“Well you’re just mean. Everyone knows that.”

Lucy smacks his arm before relenting, sighing as she leans her head on her knees. “I guess those are fighting words for an Athena kid, aren’t they.”

“That’s like—” he stops, trying to think of an ample comparison. “That’s like a stranger coming up to you after seeing Anne and saying that it looks like you couldn’t tell the difference between an allen wrench and a screwdriver. Or that you should have used copper instead of iron!”

“Oh, those are fighting words,” Lucy amends, and Edgar nods, feeling validated. “So what are you going to do?”

Edgar blinks, “What?”

“You aren’t going to let him just get away with that, are you? Because if someone did that to me, I’d sic Anne on him.”

“Well, seeing as I’m already mortified, I was thinking about just staying in my room for the rest of the summer. Ango or Sigma can take over leading orientation. Actually, I’m not even a cabin head—why am I doing this anyway?”

“Because of your flourishing social abilities, of course,” Lucy deadpans.
