This is shameful! Cinelume dub is a mess in fact im making a compilation of most of their errors through season 2, which is the least faithful to the original dub.

in general think about it. witches are mostly never opponents of the winx, just in season 1 and season 6 (those girls were freshmen manipulated by the trix). In the rest of the cases they help the winx or are neutral (or get controlled). Ms. Griffin herself is a good person who likes to make pranks to the fairies, that's all.

One thing that strikes me on reading Anne of the Island again as an adult, especially thinking about the *way* it’s written, is the role the exact word choice plays in forming our impressions of the characters:

“Marilla, brusque and tearless, pecked Anne’s cheek and said she supposed they’d hear from her when she got settled.”

“Dora kissed Anne primly and squeezed out two decorous little tears;”

Marilla’s behaviour is not actually that different from Dora’s! You could write these sentences the other way around so easily. But “primly” and “brusque” - while the actions probably look the same if you are actually observing them - convey such different ideas about the two characters. Even if you’re picking up AotI without knowing Dora and Marilla, you know you’re meant to like one and not the other. This is clever use of language - though I can’t help feeling sorry for Dora, whom everyone seems to have pigeon-holed when she was about five.
