I unfortunately picked up Bravely Default 2 again (I bought it back when it released) and then started over since I last played it in June 2021. And. You know what. I like these silly beans. And then I saw concept art for Dag's expressions and I am not the same. Why did they decide to give him huge fangs in it.

(also I'm trying so hard to avoid spoilers less for plot but more for characters so if you know anything that happens to characters shhhhh. also the expression concept is below the read more so you can see what I mean.)

first chapter of the sequel to The Beat Has Just Begun is SO close to being ready for beta, I just need to polish a couple things

#chapter 2 is much shorter and has been done for months #the sequel is (provisionally) a 5+1 deal with the first and final chapters projected to be much longer than the rest #+1 is also near completion but not totally where I want it #3 is less than half done; 4 is done; 5 is still kind of formless & may get dropped based on feedback for the first two chapters etc #TBHJB #The Beat Has Just Begun #writing

WELL I started the story... I won't say much more than that, as I am not having a good time. But there are a few things I've liked so far, so let's focus on those!

My starter horse is adorable!

(Random side encounter) Deborah MacGuiness, paleontologist! Also nice to see a woman in an actual career/profession (or literally doing anything besides housework/prostitution).

(Random side encounter) This lady’s horse died, which was only amusing to me because I had JUST tamed a wild horse before I met her, and he followed us around the entire time. I wish I could have given her this guy, he's a good boy.

#i don't even want to tag this #i feel like its not common to dislike this game #but i'm hoping it'll get better #i'm pretty far into chapter 2 #just sick of babysitting drunk idiots and beating up poor farmers #robbing good people #every camp member is an asshole #probably gonna take a break from this actually #i'll come back when i'm in a better headspace #(also way too much telling and not showing)

Currently where I'm at with Some Sunny Day progress is I'm standing at the edge of a giant chasm and there's like Four platforms across the gap. And on the other side of the chasm is all the fun climactic Emotions and character arc conclusions and scenes I have been Rotating.

But first I have to cross this chasm. And I know where I'm going I have Beats and Plot Points to hit. I just don't know how I'm going to get to each platform so I'm just standing at the edge of the cliff screeching while i attempt to put together a plot bridge that can hold its own weight
