I unfortunately picked up Bravely Default 2 again (I bought it back when it released) and then started over since I last played it in June 2021. And. You know what. I like these silly beans. And then I saw concept art for Dag's expressions and I am not the same. Why did they decide to give him huge fangs in it.
(also I'm trying so hard to avoid spoilers less for plot but more for characters so if you know anything that happens to characters shhhhh. also the expression concept is below the read more so you can see what I mean.)

If you still want questions, who do you think made the best moves so far this off-season? And what do you think fitzy was on when talking about Akira yesterday?
I always always ALWAYS love questions :)
Under the read more!
Best moves in the offseason:
Generally, the idea this offseason is don't bet the farm. The cap is going to jump next year. Wait it out. Here are my picks for top GMs:
- Fitz (Devils). Toffoli for Shango and-a-third (the third he got from Sevo's sign and trade)? Meier 8x8.8? Bratter 8x7.875? Even the small acquisitions like Colin Miller (for a fucking FIFTH!) are great. Pinching pennies and trading only expendable pieces. Yeah, I'm a homer, so what?
- Zito (Panthers). There was a need (defense), he addressed it. Mikkola, Rodrigues, even Lorentz and Stolarz. Didn't blow the bank and got what needed to be done done.
- Davidson (Blackhawks). Yes, fuck the Hawks for being racist and for the Beach scandal, but you gotta give it to Davidson, who maneuvered to acquire a bunch of vets from cap-strapped teams for next to nothing and sign them to short-term deals for Bedard to learn from. Foligno, Hall, Perry, all for a single seventh??? Oh, and they drafted Bedard. That helps too.
---
As for what Fitzy's on... I assume speed.
Okay, so the goalie sitch: Vitek is confirmed in the NHL. We need one more NHL goalie, plus one goalie we can call up in case of injury (ideally two).
Akira is really young for an NHL goalie - he's just turned 22 recently, and, among NHL goalies, only one has had more than 10 starts in 22-23 and is under 22. That's Spencer Knight, who's 21. You do have some young goalies who are rising prospects, such as Levi (also 21), Dostal (22), Sogaard (22), UPL (23), Kochetkov (23).
What sets Akira apart is his high save% compared to them. In 22-23, Knight had a .901, Levi had a .901, Dostal had a .901, Sogaard had a .889, UPL had a .891, even Kochetkov, rising goalie phenom, "only" had a .909. Akira had a .922. StatMuse shows this percentage as fourth in the ENTIRE NHL (for 15+ games played), only behind Vezina winner Ullmark, Gustavsson, and Sorokin. Also reassuring - he posted a .921 in the playoffs (an astounding .950 in the first round... and a less-than-stellar .874 in the second).
That being said, Akira has a low sample size to pull from. In 21-22, our Year of the Seven Goalies, he lost every game he played and posted a .833. And goalies, as we are all aware, are voodoo. It's entirely possible that he regresses back to a .850 player. Do I think it's going to happen? Haha no. But still.
Kochetkov is set for another year of third-stringing behind Andersen and Raanta. Fitz might want something similar for Akira, trying to bring Hellebuyck in without giving up Vanecek and attempting to roll Helle/VV this year - I find this relatively implausible because of our cap situation plus the idea that Helle would be mentoring Schmid if anything. The other option is he's looking for a free agent goalie (Stalock? Jones?) for a one-year contract to act as a stopgap. Remember, Nico Daws is injured until Christmas and likely won't be performing well until February. Kallgren is fourth-string, realistically. The issue with a free agent second goalie is that it would likely force Vitek to make many more starts - and his quality begins to decline after game 40 or so. This is why Devils fans are mostly all advocating for Akira and VV to be the starting tandem. We just need a good third-stringer for injuries. I heard Nashville is accepting calls on Askarov...
One last note - Akira also has a "fuck this shit carry time" factor, where he generally plays ten times better when someone else playing in net before him fucks it up (see: Blackwood game 82, Vitek against the Rangers). It's a real thing. Who knows if Fitz isn't simply trying to light a fire under Akira to train even harder this offseason.

speed racer- eren jaeger
pairing: eren jaeger x fem!reader
word count: 6k
content warnings: nsfw, smut, 18+, smoking, degradation, overstimulation, breeding (w/o baby talk)
notes: 100% inspired by the official art, like mmm yes please. also i know absolutely nothing about how car racing works, but that’s not important. this is unedited because my brain turned to mush writing it. enjoy!! <3
SUMMARY: eren’s a semi-professional car racer, who has a tumultuous friendship with the reader. after losing a race, eren sets out to win something else in his life, much to the reader’s surprise.
“took you long enough!” sasha called out, holding her hand above her eyes in an attempt to block out the bright sun. you dished her a smile, weaving your way through the throngs of people in the stands, attempting not to step on anyone. your eyes briefly flitted to the track, the assistants distantly getting their cars ready. they were hardly visible from here; merely faceless figures idling around. you heaved out a sigh as you reached sasha, the brunette gingerly patting the spot next to her.
“you couldn’t have gotten better seats, sash?” you asked as you sat down, pushing your sunglasses on top of your head. sasha waved her large bag of popcorn in front of your face, an exasperated expression on her features.
“the line was long, and what’s a race without popcorn?” she grinned, offering you the bag. you rolled your eyes but took a fistful of the bright yellow snack nonetheless. “plus, if you really wanted that good of seats, you would’ve come early yourself.”
“i did come here early,” you retorted, your voice muffled by the popcorn. sasha raised a questioning brow, her elbow nudging you in the side.
“getting here early just so you can poke around the racer’s quarters is not the same thing,” she singsonged, a girlish smirk on her face. you scoffed, turning away from her as you felt heat race to your cheeks. “c’mon, everyone knows you and eren are totally into each other. i don’t understand why you guys don’t just go for it.”
“i wasn’t poking around, and i am not into eren,” you said, shifting uncomfortably as the words left your mouth. it was true, to some degree. the two of you had been friends in high school, back when eren was just some skinny kid with anger issues. now he was a semi-professional racer, and the rivalry between the two of you was palpable, to say the least.
you’d been in the same friend group and for some reason eren just loved to pick on you whenever he got the chance. you suspected it had something to do with his repressed daddy issues or whatever, and he’d known mikasa and armin far too long to be so catty with them. initially they were just playful taunts, but as you got older, they started to become more personal. with age came your own unchecked need to banter and argue with him.
somewhere along the way the arguments turned to sexual tension. a sexual tension that for the most part, the two of you were happy to ignore. it allowed room for a more sassy friendship, at least.
“uh huh, suuure,” sasha responded, seemingly unconvinced. she must’ve sensed your discomfort, deciding to change the topic. “who’s who?”
your eyes traced the track, analyzing each vehicle. “armin’s in yellow, mikasa’s in red, eren’s in white, and i believe levi is in green.”
“levi’s racing? isn’t he getting a little old for that?” sasha laughed, squinting. you chuckled.
“it’s just a small fundraiser race, plus he’s a crowd favorite over here,” you explained. sasha nodded as she processed the information. the sun was hot, beating down on your back. “i’m honestly surprised this many people came out.”
sasha tossed more popcorn in her mouth, halfway done with the bag despite the race still not having started. she offered it to you again. “mhm, this is the same type of crowd that we’d see in the underground.”
you thought back to your days of attending the illegal races, late at night and under the cover of darkness. though you were just a junior in college, it felt like those nights freshman year had been decades ago. that was before eren showed real promise in the professional circuit. it was also where levi scouted him out to be his successor.
as if on cue, you could see the figures of the racers emerging from the port, each headed for their respective cars. you couldn’t help the way your gaze immediately followed the tall, brown haired racer adorned in his white racing jacket, checkers on the side. the crowd erupted into cheers at the sight of the all the racers, one from each color of the rainbow. eren walked with a certain confidence, his adamant determination being one of the only things that followed him from high school.
though you couldn’t clearly see his face from where you sat, you knew he was smiling. eren had always loved the adrenaline rush before a race.
“alright ladies and gentlemen, we welcome you to the annual shiganshina fundraiser race!” the reporter boomed over the intercom. sasha squealed in her seat, excitedly gripping your arm and pointing towards your friends. you felt a mix of excited nervousness waft over you, giggling along with her. “today we’ve got racers from all over the circuit, and each one has volunteered their precious time for the cause. can we get a round of applause?”
the crowd erupted in yet another ear deafening round of applause as the announcer read off the names of each of the racers. you and sasha made sure to scream your loudest when armin, mikasa, and eren’s names were read off.
you hoped they knew it was you, your throat scratchy as you sat back down. there was no need to be loud for levi; the entire crowd went absolutely feral at the mention of his name.
the announcer read off the conditions of the race, as well as the reasoning for the fundraiser itself. you and sasha chatted quietly about the after party while the racers put their helmets on and got in their cars. before too long, the announcer was gearing up for the start.
“alright everyone, we’re about to start. get yourselves ready.”
you and sasha stood, hollering and cheering for your friends as the cars all lined up. you knew you’d be happy if any of them crossed the finish line first, but it was undeniable that it would be eren. it wasn’t armin or mikasa’s passion like it was eren’s; they viewed it more as as fun hobby. nevertheless, you dreaded how smug eren would be once he added another win to his already growing list. he really was a bastard sometimes.
“racers ready your cars. 3... 2... 1... go!”
they were off, levi’s green car easily settling into first place, cruising past the other cars as he whipped around the first curve. you held your breath, eyes scanning the other cars placements. eren was in fourth, armin in fifth, and mikasa in second. sasha yelled sporadically, reaching out and squeezing your wrist tightly.
as they rounded the circuit for the second time, eren passed the third place racer, coming up behind mikasa’s red car. you held your breath. “c’mon eren...”
“shit! he passed her!” sasha screeched, jumping up and down. you smiled as he whipped the corner, nearly cutting the edge of the median.
“levi is still so far ahead,” you commented, trying to pry sasha’s death grip from your wrist. your eyes glanced to the clock, realizing that the race was near its finish. levi was cutting the third corner and eren was quickly gaining on him.
“looks like it’s gonna be clo-” sasha’s voice was cut off as a large man tripped over the bleacher behind you, effectively shoving you into her side. “shit, the popcorn!”
you regained your balance, giving the man behind you a dirty glare as you turned to sasha. she frowned at the popcorn that’d been spilled all over the ground. “what a waste!”
looking back up at the track, the crowd broke into screams of excitement. you expected to see eren’s face on the big screen to the side as confetti streamed through the air, but were surprised to see levi’s unimpressed stare.
eren lost?
“you’ve gotta be shitting me,” sasha gaped, her face slack in shock. you shrugged, shaking the feeling of disappointment from your shoulders. serves him right.
people started to vacate the stands, shoving their way past you as you turned to sasha. “let’s go find connie and jean, sash.”
she nodded, still frowning. the two of you climbed down the steps, going against the flow of the crowd as you weaseled your way down onto the spectators path. you could see all of the racers shaking hands, congratulating each other. your mind briefly considered whether or not eren was going to be upset, but you decided not to dwell on it.
you watched as the racers disappeared into the tunnel, eren’s tall figure no longer in view. just then, connie and jean came walking out from the service booth, both wearing their maintenance coveralls.
sasha wildly waved her arm, grabbing your hand and pulling you through the remaining stragglers towards your friends.
“hey guys!” she smiled, the boys jogging to meet you halfway.
“why were you guys in such shit seats?” connie asked, skipping over a greeting. you let out a small laugh at sasha’s expense. she merely shrugged, turning to jean.
“we going to your place?” you questioned before she had the chance. jean nodded, adjusting the backwards baseball cap on his head.
“yeah, just gotta wrap some things up, then we can head out,” he replied. you grew happy at the thought of kicking back with your friends, enjoying a nice night of fun. parties at jean and connie’s place were always the best.
***************
“some race that was,” connie groaned, leaning back and bringing the beer bottle to his lips. so far it was just you, sasha, connie, jean, and a bunch of random drunk people who’d come from the track. sasha scoffed from her spot on the worn, brown couch.
“you could say that again,” she grumbled. “we didn’t even get to see levi cross the finish line ‘cause some guy rammed into us.”
jean looked at you from where he leaned against the wall, a bottle in his hand and his eyebrows raised. “wait, for real?”
“yeah,” you sighed, drinking whatever bitter liquid sasha had poured into your red solo cup. “didn’t even say sorry.”
“how many times do i have to tell you guys, just come work maintenance with jean-boy and i,” connie suggested, wrapping his arm around sasha’s shoulder and giving a squeeze. she rolled her eyes and shoved him off. “you guys would get to watch the race from the track itself.”
“i don’t know the first thing about cars,” sasha laughed, you nodding along with her.
“and you think we do? i just said that so we could get the best seats in the house,” connie snorted, taking another swig of his drink. you chuckled at his idiocy, unfazed by yet another one of their stupid stunts. “where’re the big racers anyway?”
“they should be here soon,” you responded, glancing out the window. jean was unironically blasting the fast and the furious soundtrack, something he’d done after every race for as long as you’d known him. by now the songs were ingrained in your brain.
“who wants to bet jaeger is in a pissy mood?” jean snorted as he moved to sit down on the arm of the chair you were planted in.
“when isn’t he?” you sneered. connie and sasha hummed in agreement. both you and jean loved nothing more than to push eren’s buttons. you knew jean’s motives stemmed from some boyish fun, whereas yours felt a little more personal.
the sound of clapping began to compete with the music, your neck craning to look past jean into the hallway. eren, armin, and mikasa came into view, people cheering them on and patting them on the back. they each wore their racing jackets over their street clothes.
you felt a familiar sensation burn in your stomach at the sight of eren. his dark hair was pulled back per usual, wispies framing his tan face. The white jacket stood out against his black t-shirt and black jeans; key necklace he always wore glinting against his chest. as your gaze travelled up from his body, you were startled to make contact with his teal eyes. you quickly glanced away in embarrassment.
“well, well, well,” jean cheered, raising his bottle to the trio. “how’d it feel to lose to a short, old man, eh jaeger?”
eren scowled, obviously peeved. “if i had to lose to anyone, i’m glad it was levi.”
connie snorted at that. “man, professional circuit has you soft.”
“whatever you say, baldie,” eren smirked mischievously as he came to sit down on the couch. connie defensively rubbed his head. “at least i’m making money in prof.”
“i still can’t believe you have people that actually want to sponsor you,” you snipped, a playful expression on your face. eren lazily looked towards you, the familiar irritation laced in his eyes.
“i’m sorry, what was that? i wasn’t listening to you,” eren retorted, looking as unbothered as ever. you glared at his words, but caught armin’s disapproving eye and decided to stay quiet.
as the night carried on, you watched your friends relax and reminisce about previous races and the days spent in the illegal ring. it seemed crazy that your life was so centered around car races, when you weren’t even a racer yourself. but you supposed you were just happy to be supporting your friends.
at some point you got up out of your chair to refill your cup. the large hoards of people had started to dance; the house feeling hot and humid as you shoved your way to the kitchen. luckily the room was empty, save for armin who was drinking water out of the kitchen tap.
“thirsty?” you asked, amused. his head snapped up, surprised by your voice. it took one look to tell he was absolutely trashed, face red and eyes half lidded. he smiled goofily and nodded his head before stumbling back out into the crowd of people.
you quickly filled your cup, following the direction armin had gone. as you stepped out of the kitchen, a body came out of nowhere and smacked into you.
eren jumped back, trying to avoid the liquid that sloshed out of your cup. “hey, watch it!” he hissed.
“you watch it, casanova,” you snapped, irritated by the sticky alcohol that dripped down your hand. eren’s eyes narrowed at the nickname, his arms defensively crossing his chest.
“i told you not to call me that,” he bit back, eyebrows furrowed in annoyance. you rolled your eyes, instinctively bringing your hand to your mouth in an attempt to lick the drink off. eren watched you, his gaze clouded with an indiscernible emotion. you knew what you were doing.
“hm. too bad,” you quipped, dragging your tongue down the side of your hand, popping your pointer finger in your mouth. eren glowered at you as you let out a giggle. “see ya, loser.”
“whatever, brat,” he huffed, shaking the tension from his pants as you sauntered off into the crowd. he hated the effect you had on him.
you’d already decided not to get shit faced. while the rest of your friends had chosen otherwise, you danced alongside them, your resolve wearing thin much faster than theirs. jean and sasha bounced happily up and down, screaming the lyrics to whatever song it was blasting from the speakers. connie and mikasa were playing beer pong, and you had no clue where armin and eren had gone.
you heaved in a breath as a sharp pain shot through your side, signaling the end of your dancing career for the night. your two dance partners were too far gone to notice, waving goodbye to you as you stepped out of the sweaty crowd.
slipping your phone out of your pocket, your eyes nearly popped from your head at the time. two thirty?!
only slightly tipsy, you decided to find jean’s room and call it a night. he’d just have to sleep on the couch. with one hand dragging on the wall, you made your way through the house, past armin who was doing body shots with a couple of strangers, up the stairs and down the dark hall. it was quieter up here, but you could still hear the music and knew it’d be awhile till sleep visited you.
shoving jean’s door open, you were surprised to see none other than eren laid back on the bed, puffs of smoke coming from his mouth. the strong scent of weed hit your nostrils, nose scrunching up in reflex. he propped himself up on one arm upon your entrance, eyeing you.
“oh, sorry i’ll just- wait a minute,” you paused, narrowing your eyes at him. “you aren’t supposed to be smoking on your sponsorship.”
eren let out a loud laugh at that, more smoke spilling from his lungs. “thanks, mom. i know.”
you stood in the doorway, not really sure what to do. “jean’s gonna be mad if his room smells like weed tomorrow.”
“yeah, why do you think i chose to do it in here?” he leered, bringing the blunt to his lips and deeply inhaling, sharp cheekbones protruding with the action. you sucked in a breath, not wanting to acknowledge just how gorgeous he was. his jacket was off, black shirt tightly gripping his muscular yet slender arms as he propped himself up. he blew the smoke from his nostrils this time, making your face heat. “wanna hit?”
you sighed, weighing the options. jean’s bed was a lot more comfortable than connie’s. you could just wait till eren was done, and then pass out. “no, but i’ll wait with you till you’re done.”
“suit yourself, brat,” eren hummed, flopping back down on the bed as you shut the door behind yourself. you came to sit by him, looking down as he heaved in a sober breath. he really is beautiful, you thought.
your eyes scanned his face. “you really shouldn’t be smoking, you know. you could lose the sponsorship.”
eren rolled his teal eyes, giving you a side glance. “i’m aware. i’m also aware that you aren’t going to rat on me.”
“and what makes you so sure?” you asked playfully, your voice low. eren’s gaze shifted to you, placing the blunt between his lips as he sat up, face inches from yours.
“because. you can act like you hate me all you want,” smoke blew from his lips as he spoke, slowly inching his face closer to yours. you swallowed, eyes struggling to maintain contact with his dark stare. “but i know how badly you want me.”
you blinked, heart rate accelerating as he glanced at your lips. “speaking from experience?”
eren’s mouth quirked up in a smirk at your words. “something like that.”
you watched with desire as he brought the bud of the blunt up to his lips, deeply inhaling the toxic smoke. he lifted his free hand, pointer finger gently tracing your jaw as his thumb came up to caress your chin. he tapped softly against your face, as if asking you to open your mouth.
you weren’t sure what part of you was wanting to submit to his every move. maybe it was the alcohol. or maybe it was the accumulation of sexual tension. something told you it was a deeper itch that needed to be scratched. an itch only eren could reach.
you parted your lips, eyes fluttering as eren leaned forward and carefully brushed his own against yours, dumping his lungful of smoke into your mouth. you breathed it in, fighting the urge to cough and whine as he pulled away.
“good girl,” he breathed, leaning away to snuff the bud out on jean’s bedside table. you heaved out as much as you could, shocked by your own willingness. you were mainly surprised by how much you enjoyed whatever that was.
you stared at him expectantly as he turned back to you, a serious expression on his face. “eren.”
“yes?” he asked, leaning heavily on his arm, eyes unashamedly focused on your lips. his other hand came up again, lightly ghosting your jawline. you could feel yourself growing wet between your legs; the way eren was fucking you with his eyes sending an unwelcomed throb to your clit.
acting on impulse, you lurched forward, latching your lips onto eren’s slightly chapped ones. he wasted no time in kissing you back; hungrily pressing himself closer to your body. his lips were warm and tasted like weed and coca cola, his tongue wiggling its way into your mouth where you happily welcomed it.
you brought your hand up, wanting to run your fingers through his hair, but were stopped when they got caught in the bun. eren grunted, kissing you harder and bringing his own hand up to yank the tie from his locks, letting his soft hair fall to his shoulders.
your fingers were quick to glide through the brown strands, scratching his scalp in the process. some throaty sound emitted from his chest, the noise making your cunt ache in need. how is he so hot?
eren’s hands came to your waist, roughly shoving you down onto the bed, so that he hovered above you. your lips continued to meld together, saliva coated mouths wetly intertwined. you removed your hand from his hair, bringing both hands to run down the expanse of his arms that were on either side of your head. you squeezed his biceps, surprised when he suddenly pulled away.
“is this okay?” he panted, breaths labored. his pupils were dilated, all seriousness behind his gaze. you nodded your head without hesitation, practically begging him to continue. “words.”
“yes, yes. i want this just as much as you do,” you responded. eren smirked from above you, his dark hair swirling around his face as his key dangled in front of your chin.
“good, because,” he leaned down to your ear, lightly nibbling the lobe as the cold key rested against your throat. “i’m going to punish you for all these years of torture.”
your eyes widened, the words sending a desirable chill down your spine. “torture?”
eren’s hot mouth travelled slowly from your ear down the side of your neck, lightly peppering the skin with lustful kisses. his tongue came out as he reached your collarbone, dragging the wet muscle up the front of your throat, leaving a trail of saliva in its wake. a small whimper involuntarily left your mouth as he pulled back, grabbing your chin in his large hand.
“all of the nicknames,” he pressed a kiss to your lips. “the quips,” and another, your chest tightening. “the stunt you pulled earlier with your hand. oh god. it’s like you were practically begging me to bend you over and teach you a lesson.”
he pulled back, dark eyes boring into yours. the desire was palpable, your breathing shallow as he stared at you. it was like he was waiting for some silent agreement.
you held eye contact, tilting your chin back ever so slightly in his grip. “good thing i learn fast.”
your words flew straight to his cock, throbbing uncomfortably behind his jeans. eren let go of your chin, his lips hungrily reconnecting with yours as his hands pinned your wrists to either side of your head. his tongue was quick to invite itself into your mouth, warm and erotic.
you wanted to tug on his hair again; wanted to hear his primal groans and feel him vibrate against your mouth, but you were pinned to the bed. desperate to hear eren moan, your teeth grazed his bottom lip, the action making him yank his head back.
“tsk tsk, none of that,” he growled, wet lips glinting in the low light of the room. “this is your punishment. guess we’re going to have to do something else.”
you frowned as he let go of your wrists, lifting himself from the bed and standing. you propped yourself up on your elbows, eyes laced with desire as eren swiftly pulled the black shirt over his head, key pendant resting on his newly exposed chest. he was dangerously attractive like this; dark hair disheveled on his shoulders, only adding to the feral stare he was giving you.
he leaned forward, grabbing your thighs and yanking you to the end of the bed, legs dangling from the side. you watched in awe as he dropped to his knees, fingers coming up to toy with the button of your jean shorts.
“these little shorts make your ass look so good,” he grumbled, tapping the button. “be good and take them off for me.”
you wasted no time in lifting your ass off the bed, struggling to yank the denim down your legs without hitting eren in the face. he watched your every movement, licking his lips as you wiggled them off.
without thinking, your hands gripped the hem of your shirt, pulling it over your head to reveal a black bra. eren’s pupils dilated further at the unexpected sight of your breasts.
he helped pull the shorts from your ankles, tossing them aside as you sat back down, just in your panties and bra. you paused for a moment, unsure of what he was planning to do.
“watch me,” he demanded, staring at you through his brows. you nodded your head, breath hitching as he placed an open mouthed kiss to the inside of your thigh, tongue swiping against the smooth skin.
his eyelashes fluttered as he licked up your leg; just the way he looked at you being enough to have you creaming in your lace panties. your teeth tugged at your bottom lip, the burning in your face mirroring the way your clit throbbed along with your heart beat.
eren’s tongue trailed until he reached the edge of your underwear, eyes never failing to stay connected with yours. you swallowed as he lifted his head, placing his tongue flatly against your clothed clit.
it was a warm, muted feeling, your body all too aware of the beautiful man between your legs. eren brought his fingers up, hooking under the fabric and pushing it to the side.
“so wet for me already,” he hummed, a smile on his face. you blushed in embarrassment, the feeling of his breath on your glistening pool of moisture making you shiver. “’m gonna eat you so good, little bitch.”
you gasped as eren rapidly brought his face down, burying his head between your legs. the sensation was like no other; a swirling feeling in your stomach as his tongue hungrily swiped against your clit. your hands flew down to his hair, tugging as his lips wrapped around the bud, suckling softly.
a moan escaped your lips, the sound causing eren to groan out in reply. the vibration of his vocal cords against your center amplifying the pleasure.
a distinct feeling began to burn in your chest, the sloppiness of eren’s tongue licking up your slick causing your legs to squirm, tightening around his head. “fuck.”
eren pulled back at the pressure against his skull, a smack sounding through the air as he released his suction on your wet cunt.
“i told you to be good,” he hissed, lips coated in your sheen. you knew the image of eren’s face between your legs, hair disheveled and mouth swollen, eyes dark and lustrous, would be burned into the back of your brain.
flustered, you nodded your head, spreading your legs so they weren’t pressing against his face. he nodded in content, arms coming up to wrap around your thighs to keep you steady.
and he was back; eating your pussy like he hadn’t been fed in years, a primal desperation. he pressed his tongue down harder, the cry ripping from your throat at the sensation only egging him on. you struggled against his grip as he abused your clit with his mouth, sucking and tracing his teeth over it so good.
his tongue slid down to your entrance, shoving itself in without invitation. the fullness wasn’t like having sex; it was a heated, swirling feeling. the wet muscle circled around your spongey walls, your face beginning to burn and hands growing clammy in eren’s hair.
you threw your head back as his ministrations sped up, your hips attempting to grind into his face. the warmth in the pit of your stomach building like a loaded gun, ready to release itself.
all it took was the added pressure of his hand wrapping around your thigh so that his thumb could press against your clit, feverishly rubbing. you came crashing down, your eyes screwing shut as the wave of dopamine stretched to every part of your body, legs jerking against his hold.
eren pulled his head back again, a smile on his wet face as he licked your release from his lips. “tasted so good, so good for me.”
you breathed out in reply as he came back up above you, gently taking your chin and bringing his mouth down to yours.
the kiss was small and simple, your eye lids growing heavy. you could taste your bitter release on him, the unfamiliar flavor not completely unpleasant.
“sleepy?” eren mumbled against your lips, coming back to look at you. you nodded your head, eyes catching on the key that dangled from his neck. “too bad. we aren’t done with your punishment yet.”
you frowned, your body suddenly more awake than it was before. “huh?” you asked, sitting up as eren shifted to pull his jeans off.
you weren’t sure what you expected when he yanked both his jeans and boxers down; you guessed you’d always thought his anger issues were compensation for something. the realization dawned on you that eren had nothing to compensate for as his cock sprung from his pants, the sheer size making your mouth water.
a smirk crossed his face as he stepped from his jeans. “enjoying the view?”
“what? no,” you scoffed, averting your gaze. eren crawled back over you, his bare length pressing into your stomach as his hands came up to unclasp your bra.
“don’t be shy, this is your punishment after all,” he whispered, pulling the cups from your chest. his eyes unashamedly scanned your breasts, a smile tugging his lips as he gave them a generous squeeze.
you tried to ignore the imprint of him on your stomach; but it was nearly impossible. you could feel the spot between your legs grow wet again, arousal already weaseling its way back into your system.
eren brought his lips to yours once again, the kisses much sloppier and desperate than before. he grunted as you shifted to lay back down, his exposed dick rubbing against your stomach. “can’t wait to be inside of you,” he mumbled against your lips.
you whimpered at his words, his lips melding with your own while he simultaneously tugged your panties down your legs. he propped himself up with one arm, the other positioning the tip of his cock at the entrance of your already throbbing cunt.
you took a deep breath as he slowly eased himself into you; the sheer stretch making your eyes lull back in your head. eren moved his hips slowly at first, loosening you up. he was watching your expressions; his eyelids heavy and mouth slightly agape.
“shit, you’re so tight,” he groaned, hips starting to move faster as he gazed down at you. you swallowed, closing your eyes as he sent one particularly hard thrust, cock nearly ramming your cervix. “you good?”
“mhm,” you responded, bringing your hands up to grab his hair. “just so big.”
eren let out a breathy chuckle at that, eyes traveling down to your pelvis where his dick was visibly creating a bump with every thrust. he placed his hand on your stomach, pressing down as he bucked his hips violently forwards. he was so deep.
you cried out at the feeling of his length sliding in and out of your cunt, your walls clenching around him as your hands clawed at his muscular back.
he was filling you up so good, a moan leaving his lips as your enhanced arousal unexpectedly brought your second orgasm down, tears pricking your eyes. eren kept abusing your pussy, his thrusts growing senseless before he buried himself deep within you, releasing his load inside of your exhausted center.
both of your breathing was labored, eren looking up at the ceiling. his face was flushed as he recovered, you laying limply beneath him trying to regain your composure yourself.
“that felt so good,” you admitted, bringing your hand up from his back to caress his angular face. eren frowned at your words, large hand grabbing your wrist and removing it from his jawline.
“m’not tired yet,” he said seriously, your eyes widening as he placed a chaste kiss to your lips. your fucked out face beneath him had his dick already hardening again. “m’not gonna be tired till i win.”
he suddenly pulled up, hooking his hands under your knees and pushing your legs up by your head. the action strained your muscles, the feeling of eren’s cum dripping down your ass filling your head as he readied himself to fuck you senseless.
he stared at your cunt; at the way his cum was oozing out of it, the abused pussy ready to take him in again. he used his fingers to catch the drip, forcing it back inside of you. the thought of filling you up all nice and pretty sent him over the edge, his hand shamelessly guiding his cock back inside of you.
eren was meaner this time; each thrust was deep and deliberate, hitting your cervix and making you cry out in pleasure. the burning sensation in your clit was overwhelming, your mouth hanging open as eren slowly fucked you stupid.
“good, pretty girl” eren breathed out, ramming his hips into yours. “took her punishment like such a good girl.”
you tried to nod your head, but you couldn’t move. the feeling of hot, sticky tears rolled down your face, eren’s cock deep within you almost too much to bear. he grabbed your chin, tongue swiping up your cheek as he savored the salty flavor on his tastebuds. this man and his licking.
“tell me, did you learn your lesson?” eren grunted in your ear, hand still gripping your chin. you tried to form a sentence, fucked beyond words. “hm, use your words and i’ll let you cum.”
one more deep thrust and his dick stopped its strokes, pausing within you. “yes... yes.”
“yes what?”
your tongue was heavy in your mouth, pussy all too aware of eren’s length within it. “i learned my lesson, you won.”
he smirked, aggressively bucking his hips into your weak cunt, the action making you cry out as he rammed your cervix. the tears continued to roll down your cheeks as eren’s dick twitched, spurting the his seed into you. your third release followed his, your clit spasming from the overstimulation.
eren heaved himself out of you, collapsing deftly onto the bed. the two of you sat in a heated silence, your face sticky from the tears. eren glanced to you, eyes trailing down your body.
“i’ll get a rag,” he mumbled, shoving off the bed and walking into jean’s bathroom. you were beyond exhausted and knew that you’d be sore tomorrow. eren reemerged, quickly cleaning you up and handing you your shirt.
your eyes lazily watched him as he walked over and locked the door; brain too tired to form a sentence.
he must’ve noticed your concern. “we can sleep in here tonight; i don’t think you’re in any shape to move.”
you carefully crawled into the sheets, not even bothering to put your shirt back on. eren followed suit, climbing in behind you.
“night,” he whispered as he shut the bedside light off. your lids were growing heavy, a smile on your lips as you began to fall asleep.
“night, casanova.”

Dazed and Confused
Summary: You and Connie have been friends for ten years, crushing on each other like a bunch of idiots who can't confess their feelings for one another. Until you go on a trip with your friends. Pairing: Connie Springer x Fem!Reader Warnings & Content: 18+, language, oral sex (female & male receiving), unprotected sex, weed smoking, alcohol consumption, f l u f f Word Count: 4.2 k
A/N: I got so pissed at that last anon that I finished this oneshot quicker lol. @fiaficsxo here it is!
You loved parties. Not the loud music and thick smoke, not the booze and smell of vomit, but your friends. Every time they gathered at someone's place, your heart fluttered, filled with happiness and content and long-lasting memories.
Connie had the brilliant idea of spending a week in the mountains during your spring break, and you wasted an entire night searching for the perfect cottage to rent. Luckily everyone was down with his suggestion, the only problem was how you'd sleep. Historia obviously wanted to share a room with Ymir. Mikasa and Eren were an item now, so they'd have to sleep together. Armin wanted to try his luck with Annie, so no one objected to that. Jean declared that he wanted to bunk with Connie, like the two eligible bachelors they were, and that left you and Sasha to share a room together. You didn't mind it, in all honesty you loved Sasha with all your heart — but you secretly hoped someone would pick up on your feelings for Connie and let you sleep with him. You weren't that lucky.
You packed your bag the night before the trip, obsessively ticking everything on your list and double checking every item and pocket. It was ready, with one item missing — the white lace babydoll smoothed on your dorm bed. You chewed the pen cap, debating whether to bring it with you or not. You bought it for special occasions, but you haven't had a dick appointment in a long time, and you doubted you'd have one this week. With a shrug, you decided to bring it — you never know what might happen. Nighttime passed quickly and you soon found yourself all dolled up, albeit still sleepy from all the tossing and turning, excited to make more memories with your friends.
The train station was packed with people, especially students who went back to their hometowns for the break, and you were relieved to find Armin and Mikasa there. You three were always punctual, followed by Jean and Annie. Eren, Sasha and Connie were always late, which is why you told them the train leaves at 7 am instead of 7:30. It was a dirty strategy, but no one wanted to miss such a fun opportunity because of those lazy fuckers. And lo and behold, they decided to appear at 7:15.
"That was some good thinking." Jean shook his head, hand sympathetically placed on your shoulder.
"I'm only glad you guys rolled with it." You laughed without noticing the way Connie stared at you, and even he didn't understand exactly what he felt. Was he grumpy because he hated morning, or was it Jean's hand on you that irked him?
"It's not polite to stare." Sasha pulled Connie out of his thoughts.
"I wasn't staring, I was looking." Connie rolled his eyes, gripping the handle of his suitcase a bit too tightly.
"I just don't get it why you don't tell her you like her." The girl popped a bubblegum baloon, proceeding to chew it very loudly.
"Are you kidding me? She obviously likes Jean. Look how she's laughing!"
Sasha placed an arm on his shoulder, a sheepish smile on her face. "You, my friend, are a dumbass."
"Takes one to know one."
To say that your friends were loud during the train ride was an understatement. They didn't really care about the nasty glares other passengers shot at them, opting to talk, sing, eat and practically embarrass themselves. But two hours later you arrived, and the fresh, crisp air of the mountains was a blessing. You didn't regret coming, all of you deserved a break after all the exams, studying and all-nighters you guys pulled.
"We could visit the military museum!" Armin suggested, but Connie scrunched his nose.
"We came here to get high, drink and spend time together, why the fuck would we visit some old ass building?"
"I'd like to go to the museum." You awkwardly smiled, earning a 'see?' from the blond. Mikasa, Eren and Annie backed you up, and since it was a democracy, you ended up leaving your bags at the cottage and touring the small town to find the military museum. The building wasn't massive, and inside it was dark, with crimson carpets and dim lights. It was actually quite a romantic atmosphere, had it not been for the weapons and armours displayed in glass cases. Connie watched you intently, taking in every movement, every flinch, every hair tucking, every scrunch of your cute nose. You absorbed the information, hungry for knowledge. This was something you and Connie didn't share — yes, you were down to drinking and smoking, but you were also eager to learn and study, while he always preached how 'you can always retake an exam but you can't relive a party.' He wasn't stupid by any means, but unlike you, Jean, Armin and Mikasa — who alwaysstudied and never skipped lectures — Connie would wing it and somehow end up getting better grades. His strategy didn't always work, and sometimes, when you were in college, he'd ask you to tutor him. Now you were second year undergraduates, and while you were studying different subjects, you still made time for each other.
"That's a nice, uhh..." Connie squinted, "...shotgun."
"It's a musket." You chuckled, your fingers accidentally brushing his as you turned around to face him.
"Shotgun, musket, same thing."
"Actually, muskets are muzzle-loaded and fire a single bullet, but shotguns pack multiple pellets in one shell." You explained. "I'm sorry, you're probably not interested in my ramblings."
"No, no, it's... interesting. I just wasn't expecting you to know so much about guns." He rubbed his nape and smiled at you.
"Well, I do study history, in case you forgot."
"How could I forget that?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" You awkwardly elbowed Connie. Why was it so hard for you to just tell him your feelings? Oh, right, because you've been friends for ten years and if he didn't like you back, it would only ruin a great friendship.
"It means you brag about it so much it's kind of hard to forget." He told you, quickly realising just how insulting that sounded.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that's how you felt..." You sighed, eyes darting back to the weapons.
"No, I didn't- forget it." Connie shook his head. Well played.
Back at the cottage, with enough food and booze to last the group a month, you decided to stay in your room for the rest of the day. It wasn't the first time you had embarrassing moments with Connie, but this particular one made you anxious to be around him. Did he really dislike you that much, or was it just friendly banter? If you were to ask him, you could find out, but every scenario in your head had a bad outcome, so avoiding him for now was the smartest choice. Sasha pleaded with you to spend the evening in the living room with everyone else, but you brushed her off, telling her you weren't feeling quite well.
"Text me if you need anything." She told you before leaving. It was immature to act this way, you knew that all too well, but it wasn't like Connie cared, right? You eventually decided to go downstairs after finishing a long episode of your favourite tv show, your stomach begging for nourishment. As silently as possible, you tiptoed behind the couch. The hallway was dim, the sun had already set, and the only lights were the ones from the wide TV screen in the living room where your friends were watching some corny horror movie. You could cut the suspense and tension with a knife, and when you dropped a teaspoon, everyone jumped.
"Sorry, sorry! It's just me!"
"Jesus Christ, Y/N, you almost gave me a heart attack." Jean got up from the floor and walked behind the couch. "How are you feeling? Sasha said you're ill."
"I'm fine, don't worry." You picked the spoon up and threw it in the sink. "It's just a headache, I'll sleep it off."
"Good, we need you here." The man wrapped an arm around you. "You're missing how Connie's crapping his pants at this shitty movie."
From the outside it would seem like you and Jean were a couple, but the truth was far from it. You two grew up together, his family was friends with your family, and what you had was nothing more than a brother-sister relationship. Jean's little remark earned a disgruntled look from Connie, you quickly picked up on that, and so you playfully jabbed him in the stomach.
"Connie's crapping his pants? You're the one who almost had a heart attack." You grinned.
"Oi, that was only because you dropped your stupid spoon. I was invested in the movie."
"Mhm, sure you were."
"Hey, you sure you don't want to join us?" Mikasa waved at you from the living room. You pondered over her question. Perhaps it wouldn't be too awkward to sit with them.
"Alright, sure, why not?"
"Come, sit next to me." Sasha shuffled to the side, but what she really meant by that was 'sit next to Connie', because she shuffled to the otherside.
The following two nights were surprisingly quiet, all you did was play board games, watch movies and walk around the town taking pictures. The tension between Connie and you seemed to dissipate, and you both forgot the unpleasant interaction you had on the first day. But on the fourth night, that's when shit hit the fan. Annie and Armin left for a date, and Eren and Mikasa wanted to spend the night alone in their room, leaving you, Sasha, Jean and Connie unsupervised, bored and tipsy. There was absolutely nothing good to watch on the TV, and you almost wanted to scream when your friends wanted to play truth or dare. It was one of those games you despised, because the whole point of it was to put the players in uncomfortable situations. And you didn't like being uncomfortable, unlike your friends.
"Jean, truth or dare?" Sasha beamed.
"Dare, duh."
"Alright, I dare you to switch roommates for the rest of the week." She sipped her blackberry cider.
"Okay? So, I'll stay with Y/N, then."
Good lord, if looks could kill, Connie's would annihilate Jean and Sasha off the face of the Earth.
"No, no, you'll stay with me. Y/N will stay with Connie."
"Eh? Why does your dare involve us?" You asked, confused and curious of your friend's proposal.
"Because." She shrugged. "Don't pussy out."
"I'm not pussying out. A dare's a dare." Jean scoffed. "I'm gonna go take my shit in your room and shower."
"Y-yeah, I'll go bring mine, too." You got up, using this time to hyperventilate alone. What the fuck was Sasha even thinking? Was this some stupid joke? But your friends wouldn't harm you, so why would she suggest such a stupid thing?
You took a quick shower before curling up in the bed, blankets covering you from neck to toe. Connie wasn't back yet, and you didn't want to go after him, that would just be odd. You were hoping you'd fall asleep before he returned, to avoid any unnecessary fuss, but just as you closed your eyes, the door opened. Maybe you could pretend you were asleep? He struggled to find his pyjamas in the dark, stumbling over furniture and knocking things down, and you turned the bedside lamp on to ease his search.
"Did I wake you up?" Connie bit his lower lip, and through the dim light you watched the way his grey eyes glistened, the way his short brown hair was ruffled, and how the sage green t-shirt hugged his toned abdomen.
"No, no, 's alright. I wasn't sleeping. I can't exactly fall asleep." You clutched the blanket at your chest as you shook the intrusive thoughts away. Connie was your friend, damn it, there was no room for romance between you.
"I can sleep on the floor if you want."
"Oh, God, no, it's... stiff."
"Um, yeah, it kinda is. Alright then, I'll jump in the shower real quick before going to bed." He stumbled into the bathroom and you really wanted to fall asleep now.
But you couldn't. Every time you closed your eyes, Connie's face popped in your head. So much for resting. You tossed and turned on the mattress, trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in, but nothing helped. It didn't take long for him to finish his shower, and you mentally chastised yourself for not falling asleep when you felt him shuffle under the same blanket that was covering you. For a minute, you didn't utter a word, you barely breathed, afraid to disturb the silence in the room.
"Are you asleep?"
"Nope." You heard the click of Connie's phone and turned around. You couldn't see him, but you could hear him.
"Do you wanna talk about something? Until we fall asleep, I mean." You suggested.
"Hmm, sure." He turned on his side and you felt his breath fanning over your cheeks. You were too close to him. "Actually, d'you wanna smoke?"
"Aren't the others gonna be mad if we smoke without them?"
"They don't have to know. Besides, you and I never smoked together." Connie was already up, rummaging through his backpack with the flashlight of his phone. "And then we can talk as much as you want."
"Alright, I'm down."
You laid on the floor, your head next to Connie's as you looked at the ceiling, smoke leaving your lips. He took the joint from you, fingers touching yours and you blushed, the haze of the weed melting your worries away.
"Do you want me to skip the song?" Connie asked, and for a moment you forgot there was a song playing.
"No, I like it." You confessed. "I didn't know you liked Led Zeppelin."
"There's lots of things you don't know about me, Y/N." He passed you the joint.
"Okay, tell me something else I don't know."
"I like it when you randomly say historical or scientific facts."
"Didn't you say I brag too much about it?" You took one final drag before you stubbed the joint out in a makeshift ashtray filled with a bit of water. By this point you were high as a kite, every trace of rationality gone.
"That doesn't mean I don't like it." Connie smiled and you could feel it in his voice. "Now you tell me something I don't know about you."
"I can't sleep with open doors. It freaks me out." You sat up, a breeze blowing through the window sending shivers down your spine. "It's a bit cold, do you mind if I close the window?"
"Go ahead."
You got up and picked the ashtray up but before you could close the window, you stumbled over a chest of drawers, the ashes mixed with water spilling over your t-shirt.
"You okay?" He quickly crawled to you, concern written all over his face.
"Yeah, I'm just clumsy." You laughed it off and waved your free hand. "I'll go get changed, I should have a spare shirt."
But you didn't have a spare shirt. All you had was that stupid white babydoll, and anxiety seeped through your veins. You couldn't exactly show up in that in front of your crush. And you didn't want to ask him for a shirt either. Fuck it, what else could you do?
You peeked out the bathroom door and saw Connie back in bed, lazily scrolling through his phone. God, this was embarrassing.
"You look like you've seen a ghost." He laughed, but when your facial expression didn't change, he frowned. "Y/N?"
"Um, so, I didn't have a spare shirt and- Jesus, this is awkward." You opened the door and his eyes widened. "Is it alright if I sleep in this?"
"Oh, I get it now." Connie scoffed.
"Get what?"
"You were hoping you'd share a room with Jean, right?" He sounded almost disgusted.
"Excuse you? Where did you even get that idea?" You slammed the bathroom door shut, arms folded across your chest.
"I'm not stupid, Y/N. I've seen the way you two act. Do yourselves a favour and just fuck already."
You were speechless. Completely reactionless. The weed amplified your anger, but his words brought tears to your eyes.
"You... you fucking asshole! You think I brought this for Jean? I brought it for you!"
"Eh? M-me?" Connie was confused, and you were pissed.
"Yes, you. Jean's like a brother to me, oh my God! Ew!"
"Wait, so you and Jean are not in love with each other?"
"In love?? Connie, how high are you exactly?" You walked closer to the bed, arms still crossed.
"But- Fuck, I am stupid." He shook his head, the memories of you flirting with him flashing before his eyes. "I fucked up, didn't I?"
"A bit..." Your muscles relaxed and you sat on the mattress. "Really, Connie, I... I like you. A lot. But you're always giving me mixed signals."
"That's because I always thought you liked Jean!" He threw his hands in the air in exasperation.
"No, you're the only one."
"Huh, guess I've really been dazed and confused."
Calloused fingertips ran across your hips leaving goosebumps in their trail. Your hands roamed his back and the way Connie kissed you was better than any high you've ever experienced. He was touch-starved, and you were just as needy. His knee found its place between your thighs and you moaned when it barely brushed your cunt.
"I've been dreaming for this moment for as long as I can remember." Connie breathed into your neck, the hot breath tickling your skin.
"Me too, you blind bat." You laughed and he turned you over, hovering over you.
"'M sorry I didn't notice quicker." He kissed you again. One hand travelled lower, pushing your underwear to the side before he pushed two fingers between your folds. "Fuck, you're so wet."
"Well, at least now I don't have to finger myself thinking about you." You whimpered with a grin.
"Oh?" Connie arched a brow. "Is that what you've been doing?" He curled up his fingers and you threw your head back with a moan. "I thought you were a prude."
"T-there's lots of things you d-don't know about m-me!" You replied back between oh’sand ah’s, imitating his words from an hour ago. That only earned a sneer from Connie, his head dipping between your thighs. "Wait, what are you do- ooh fuck!"
His tongue lapped at your cunt, fingers pumping in and out of you, and you completely sunk into the mattress, moaning his name over and over again. You gripped the sheets, flexing the muscles in your legs as you squirmed and thrashed. Connie stopped and you almost crushed his skull with your thighs at the empty feeling. He pulled your underwear down and shoved the cotton panties in your mouth.
"Don't wake everyone up, Y/N. You don't want them knowing what a little slut you are, do you?"
You shook your head and Connie went back to circling your clit with his tongue, adrenaline rushing through your entire body with each lick, each suck. Tears of pleasure pooled at your eyes, nose and cheeks red from the thrill of your incoming orgasm. The way he was sloppily eating your pussy and moaning while doing it drove you insane, and within seconds you came undone, thighs trembling with delight. In fact, you were so sore you had to push his head back, begging him to stop so you could return the favour.
"You taste so sweet." Connie licked his lips. You don't know what possessed you to pull him into a kiss after you removed the makeshift gag, but he was right, you were sweet.
"Can I...?" Your eyes drifted down to his twitching cock, your voice soft and quiet.
"You wanna suck it?"
"Yes."
"Later. Right now, I wanna fuck you."
Connie gave you no time to protest, his elbow pushed one of your things to the side, the blushing tip of his cock grazing over your overstimulated clit, up and down your slit. Inch by inch it disappeared into your cunt and he let out a satisfied sigh. You bucked your hips, manicured nails digging into his shoulders with each thrust.
"Shit, you're so fucking tight!" Connie growled, head lowering to kiss you. You could still taste yourself on his lips and that only made you clench your spongy walls around his cock. That seemed to please him, because he rocked his hips harder and faster. "You like it?"
"Oh, God, yes!" You gasped, beads of sweat forming on your forehead as you clawed his back.
"Fuck, I want you to ride me." He gripped your hips tighter and turned you over. You tried your best to get in the new position without letting his cock slip out of you, and when you finally adjusted yourself, it was a whole new challenge. Gravity pulled you down, and his tip brushed your cervix, your eyes squinting at the slight pain. "If it hurts, stop-"
"No!" You cried out, your hands resting on his chest. You bounced up and down, the uncomfortable feeling slowly replaced with pleasure. Connie's hands traced your thighs as you rode him, another wave of heat flushing through your core. His palm met your cunt, thumb circling over your clit. "I can't c-come again!"
"Yes, you can. And you will cream on my cock."
The disgust words worked like magic and you flexed your thighs, bouncing faster, head thrown back, hair cascading down your back. "You're so beautiful, Y/N."
"Connie, I-" The words stopped in your throat, the pressure too much for you to handle.
"You what?"
"I'm- oh, God!"
"Atta girl!" He praised you when he felt your silken walls relaxing and your thighs quaking. The second orgasm was so intense you let yourself fall over his chest, dizzy and tired. You thought he'd give you a break, but Connie wrapped an arm around your back, holding you in place before giving your oversensitive cunt a few more thrusts. "Now you can return the favour."
You mustered up some strength to get up and kneel in front of the bed, between his legs.
"Please don't come in my mouth." You asked him before wrapping your pretty lips around his cock.
"Gotchaah-" Connie choked on his words when he felt himself in your hot mouth. You bobbed your head up and down, cheeks hollowed and eyes on him. You didn't break eye contact when you pulled away and spat on the tip, hand pumping his cock to smear the spit. "Hot." He mumbled before you went back to sucking. You felt the throbbing, tightening your lips around him and picking up the pace. "Y/N-"
It all happened in a flash — Connie yanked your hair and pulled your head back, thick ropes of milky white cum shooting all over your face and neck.
"Eew!" You scrunched your nose, hand under your chin to stop it from dripping down the floor.
"What do you mean ew? That's, like, a billion kids!"
"Actually, a fertile man produces around-"
"Don't start. Do not." He pressed his index finger over your lips. "Let's get you cleaned up."
You woke up sore, especially between your thighs, but damn, was it worth it. Connie wrapped an arm around your waist, mumbling something about how pretty you are, but you assumed he was still sleeping — or still high. The sun shone through the blinds and you squinted, annoyed by the brightness, and so you turned around, watching the way your crush snored peacefully.
"Cute." You smiled and planted a kiss on his forehead, waking him up. "Oh, I'm sorry!"
"Why?" Connie rubbed his eyes. "Waking up to you is a blessing."
You couldn't hide the tinting of your cheeks and the grin on your lips. "I didn't think you were the romantic type."
"There's lots of things-"
"I don't know about you. But I'd like to know those things. If you let me, of course." You bit your lower lip, eyes filled with hope.
"Can I be your boyfriend?" He sat up, his eyes serious.
"I thought you'd never ask."
Okay, so maybe Sasha knew a thing or two when she dared Jean to switch roommates.
You walked into the kitchen after getting ready for the day, with Connie following behind you. Everyone was eating their breakfast, and Jean instantly dashed to you.
"Connie, bro, take me back. Sasha's leaving crumbs all over the bed! I can't sleep like that!"
"I can't, man, I wanna spend the rest of the week with my girlfriend." He sneered and you elbowed him.
"I forgot to mention Jean's overprotecti-"
"Your what? Hands off my sister from another mister, you creep!"
"Creep? You're the one who was sexting someone's sister last night." Sasha chimed in, mouth full of cereal.
"Thanks, Sash." Jean rolled his eyes. "For real, how did this happen?"
"You see, mate, when a man and a woman love each other-"
"Nope. I will not hear this."

Cap-Ironman RecWeek: What-If Wednesday
Time for another installment of @cap-ironman rec week! Today’s theme: AU’s.
I know AU’s in different settings are half the reason most people read fanfics, but they’re not really my thing on the whole. AU’s where different choices are made, or different events transpire? Absolutely. Coffee shops? Not my cup of... you know.
So, here’s my AU recommendations for mostly “turn left” scenarios. This time with an under-the-cut break so I don’t take over everyone’s timelines (sorry about that last post). Also with some summaries truncated for length.
Alone Like This
Author: GotTheSilver
Word Count: 7,452
Summary: Steve, post waking up, runs away from SHIELD, and Tony's the one who tracks him down.
Why You Should Read It:
First off, GotTheSilver’s been consistently and regularly putting out solid Stony since 2012 and not only are they not stopping, they’re only getting better. This writer doesn’t get nearly the fanfare I’d expect in Stony circles for someone who puts out this much good stuff, and here’s hoping this post can be a part of changing that.
While I am always a sucker for enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, there’s something to be said for stories where Steve and Tony hit it off right away. And watching these two very different people look at each other and see the same sense of being lost, then finding each other again is... excuse me, there’s something in my eye, ignore me.
Second Chance Lives
Author: raeldaza
Word Count: 43,872
Summary: Tony's gonna die of palladium poisoning anyway, why not join a pointless expedition to recover Captain America’s body? And after, well, why not dedicate his last few months to making sure an American hero settles into his new life? What else is he going to do, get drunk at parties?
Why You Should Read It:
This writer doesn’t write a lot for the MCU but when they do, dang.
“Tony is the one helping Steve acclimate to the new century before Avengers 2012″ is a whole genre of Stony fanfics that scratch an itch I didn’t even know I had before I started reading fanfiction, and this is one of the best ones out there. It’s got it all - Steve poorly coping with his PTSD, Tony poorly coping with his immanent mortality, some breathtakingly poor communication between the two most emotionally stunted men in the MCU, and a cat named Roomba. What’s not to love?
Should You Choose to Accept It
Author: elwenyere (look, you’re gonna be seeing a lot of them this week, sorry-not-sorry)
Word Count: 27,106
Summary: After a terrorist attack and a field operation gone wrong, the Avengers realize that Nick Fury's secrets are just the start of a much bigger mystery. Steve and Tony try to keep some things from each other as well, but that can't possibly affect the mission — right? Mission Fic + Getting Together (or Mission: Getting Together) that mashes up elements from Iron Man 3, CA: Winter Soldier, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season one, and Mission Impossible 3.
Why You Should Read It:
You can see my post yesterday for singing El’s praises, but what I really liked about this fic was how how damn creative it is. The CAWS/IM3/AOS mashup is everything I wished the actual MCU gave us and more, with well-developed characters and an exciting story to put them in. And because it’s El, you know the banter’s gonna be on point, the way the characters care for each other is gonna be emotionally constipated but touching, and the pacing’s gonna be exciting enough to draw you in and keep you there. Also, this fic doesn’t have nearly enough kudos so please go read it and fix that or I’m gonna have to try to hack AO3 and that’ll just be embarrassing for all parties involved.
What Happens In Vegas
Author: sabremc
Word Count: 161,951
Summary: “What the hell, Tony?” Rhodey demanded brusquely. Tony winced and drew the phone away from his ear. “You’ve got cops and Feds all over the hotel. I’m watching you perp walk out of the police station on repeat on CNN. They’re saying you tried to bribe Stern? Fox News has you selling weapons on the black market, and God that picture they’re using is the one from Bali in ’09. You look like shit. They wheeled Stern out and put him in an ambulance, by the way. Got some paparazzi swearing you decked the guy. Now they’ve got copters following it like he’s OJ.”
“Yeah, don’t worry, Sourpatch, I’ve got it covered. Uh, though, I should probably tell you that, purely in the interests of national security and the greater good, I kind of had to fake marry that stripper-gram you sent. Thanks for that, by the way,” Tony added quickly.
Why You Should Read It:
If you’re deep enough into Stony to see posts like this on Tumblr, you probably know sabre’s what we in the business call a “big name author.” They’re prolific, they’re popular, and most importantly, they write words good (technical term). Seriously, sabre just keeps cranking out high quality stuff over and over again, raising the bar for the rest of us like a jerk (not really. I’m not bitter they write stuff so good I wish I’d thought of it first. Not at all.)
I never read stripper!Steve or stripper!Tony as a rule, but this came so widely recommended that I broke that rule and boy am I glad that I did. This is also the only fic on this list that’s a true-AU, with Steve being a non-powered vet from Afghanistan who left his army career to help Bucky and is stripping in Vegas to raise money for a prosthetic arm. He’s booked to do a private show for Tony, shenanigans ensue, and now they’re fake-married. This fic’s got some top-of-the-line banter and character development, but I particularly love it for its rich setting. Sabre paints a Vegas not just with strip clubs and blackjack tables, but KISS-themed minigolf, romantic dinners on the Eiffel tower, gaudy hotel lobbies, and making out on giant ferris wheels. It’s such a richly developed playground for the characters to play on, and through it, Steve manages to find a life for himself he’d given up on, and Tony finds multiple ways to show his kindness and depth of feeling for Steve. I know the word count’s long for this one but trust me, you’ve gotta read this fic.
Wait & Sea
Author: Lenalena
Word Count: 53,244
Summary: In which Tony and Steve get sent on an undercover mission aboard a cruise ship to make contact with Hydra. In this AU the military has kept the discovery and defrosting of Captain America a secret, so Steve and Tony have never met before. Yet they are to pose as newlyweds....
Why You Should Read It:
This one’s old and popular enough to be considered one of the “classic” Stony fics, and for good reason. Lenalena doesn’t write too often and not as much as they used to, but the fics they have up there are an absolute delight.
This is another fic that I skipped a bunch of times for being outside my comfort zone, but when I finally read it I saw why everyone’s so wild about it. In this story, Steve’s defrosted a bit earlier and not revealed as Captain America. He and Tony are sent undercover to sniff out Hydra shenanigans on a cruise and, because it’s fanfiction, they’ve got to pretend to be a married couple while onboard. There’s tons to love about this fic, but the things that bring me back to reading it over and over is first, Tony’s kindness and the way he’s attuned to Steve’s feelings, which... God, just inject “kind, observant Tony” straight into my veins, please and thank you. This is also another really rich setting for a story, and Lena knows how to fold the the hokeyness of the cruise into the seriousness of the mission and the depth of feelings Steve and Tony are finding for each other in a really beautiful, layered way. It’s funny, it’s heartfelt, it’s steamy, it’s gripping... why are you still reading this here? Go check it out for yourself!
Ashes to Ashes
Author: dirigibleplumbing
Word Count: 51,582
Summary: After regrouping following some surprise time travel, the world's heroes and sorcerers come up with a plan to protect the Mind and Time Stones by taking them into space in opposite directions. The result involves a lot more time loops than Steve would like, but at least they're getting a second chance to stop Thanos. (As well as a third, and a fourth...) And if Steve takes the opportunity to try to reconcile with Tony, too—well, they have the time, and Steve's going to make the most of it.
Why You Should Read It:
Dirigibleplumbing’s another name in Stony fanfics that does not get nearly as much fanfare as they deserve. They’re consistently a really creative voice in Stony fanfics and I always look forward to their stories showing me something new. Go read all their fics, I need more people to geek out with me over them.
I tend to limit myself on Steve-and-Tony-mend-things-after-Civil-War fics not because they’re not good, but because they’re so heavy, and also the Sokovia Accords have five hundred layers of crap in them that no good fic could possibly hash out well. This one, though? When you add in the Infinity War/End Game fixit? Poetry. Art. Music to my ears. DP wrote a really engaging, twisty story where it’s hard to predict what’s coming next, in spite of it literally being a pseudo-Groundhog day scenario. The characterizations are great, the story is engaging, and the feelings are big and sad and eventually happy. Go read it, you’ll love it.
I have tons of other recs for this category but this seems like a good place to stop for today. Tomorrow’s Alternative Media Thursday, and I’ve got some real gems I’ve been saving for that day (aaaaand possibly a self-rec or two ;)

ok so i really like choei and i’ve been wondering what he looks like...i mean he’s a pretty prominent oc in a big chunk of your fics so maybe... a doodle? xD
(2/2) ok maybe prominent is not the right word but memorable would definitely be it
So, a while ago, I had the idea to try and draw a bunch of my Squad 6 OCs and do, like, little profiles for them? Like they used to have at the end of the Bleach volumes? Mostly, I just wanted to practice drawing faces. Anyway, this turned out to be way more work than I expected, so this may be the only one I end up doing, but it was fun.
Ahhh, Choei. It was 2019. I was writing my second fanfic. I needed two Squad 6 OCs, whom I hoped to reuse, because I hate making OCs. Two upper seats, one of them who laughs at Renji’s jokes and one of them who would never laugh at Renji’s jokes. The former became Fourth Seat Kuchiki Choei, the OC that dared to ask the question: what if a Kuchiki, but also a bro?
Birthday: November 26 (Sagittarius)
Height: 183cm (6′0″)
Weight: 80kg (176lb)
Zanpakutou: Namazu
Release command: Furuwasero, Namazu!/Shake it up, Namazu! (furuwaseru means to cause something else to shake as opposed to furueru / to shake)
Special skill: Plays pivot on the Squad 6 futsal team
Hobby: Collecting stuff from the World of the Living.
Food: Likes: Yakult (yogurt drink) Dislikes: Mushrooms
How he spends his day off: Can often be found wearing a backwards baseball cap and Sidewalk Surfers and hanging out in one of the trendy Living World-style karaoke bars and coffee houses that sprang up in the years following the ryouka invasion.
Theme Song: “Good Time” by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen
Choei facts!
Namazu, Choei’s zanpakutou is an otsuchi, a war hammer traditionally used for breaking down doors. Choei has two special attacks: (1) he can slam Namazu into something with tremendous concussive force, shaking it to pieces and (2) he can strike the ground to cause small earthquakes.
Namazu is named for the legendary catfish that causes earthquakes in Japanese folklore. He is normally trapped by the thunder god Kashima under a stone or gourd, but sometimes he gets rowdy and thrashes around, causing tremors. He was a popular subject of ukiyo-e prints in the 19th century and is also regarded as a deity of social justice and wealth redistribution. (Choei likes to redistribute his wealth at the bar on Saturday nights). The trailing ribbons on Choei’s zanpakutou are meant to be evocative of catfish whiskers.
In Squad 6, all shihakushou accessories must be approved, in writing, by the captain. Choei holds the record for the most rejected applications, including, but not limited to: Doc Martens, ski goggles, a puffy vest, a trucker hat, and a fanny pack. To date, the only thing he has gotten past Byakuya is a pair of bro-ass grippy weightlighting gloves which he claims are “functional.” (It is a great mystery among Squad 6ers whether Byakuya makes Renji submit accessory applications and actually approves them or if Vice Captain just does what he wants and Byakuya lets him. Also why?? how?? Is it because he has bankai??)
Choei is Byakuya’s second cousin (his paternal grandfather is Ginrei’s brother). He has four older brothers and one older sister, Naoko, who is the Lady of the Gotou branch family.
Choei is a bit of a black sheep. He is a not a man of culture and he isn’t interested in settling down and making a nice marriage alliance. He joined the Gotei because it’s about the only thing he’s able to do to the satisfaction of his family. Although he has very high reiatsu and is a strong fighter (his zanpakutou is especially well suited for smashing Hollow masks), he has rarely been motivated to work hard, and was often dismissed by his relatives for his fun-loving lifestyle and fighting with a “vulgar”, non-bladed weapon, not befitting a Kuchiki. Since Renji came on as Vice Captain, he has made Choei do approximately 900,000 pushups and lets Choei hit Hihiou Zabimaru in the face with his hammer. Renji doesn’t know this, but Choei admires him deeply and has improved a lot under his abuse tutelage.
Choei managed to distinguish himself in my sadtimes Byakuya Dies AU, Portions for Foxes by passing the Lieutenant’s Exam and becoming Renji’s Vice-Captain (and also by hooking up with Sentarou.)
Special thanks to @kaicko for help with Choei’s zanpakutou and release command and also just listening to me ramble about my bro son.
Also, credit to AdorkaStock for the pose reference!

Tick. Tock.
The hands on the clock hanging high above the end of isle 9 tick loudly in time with the pounding of your heart threatening to escape your chest.
Tick. Tock.
You’re stuck. Frozen to the linoleum floor beneath you by the soles of your shoes with a giant, foreboding wall of pregnancy tests in all different brands towering above you. Maybe you should just get one of every kind. Maybe you should ask for help. Your eyes dart from one end of the isle to the other finding only stock boys and creepy men in the pharmacy. Looking back to the wall, a blue box stands out to you. Neon yellow letters advertise that 3 tests come in one pack and you quickly yank it off the peg its slid onto. Your eyes slide down further to the bottom of the wall and a bright pink box display’s the words “FASTER RESULTS” written in all caps and you grab that one too. It holds 2 more test and you wonder vaguely if five tests is too many. Drawing small, firm circles into your temple, you think heavily about how you shouldn’t even have to take a test at all.
Tick. Tock.
You shouldn’t even have to be standing in this isle worrying about what kind to get.
Tick. Tock.
You shouldn’t have to be staying with the boys and-
A ringing in your pocket pulls you from your mind babbles, the screen showing a text from Namjoon.
Joon♥: Y/n. Are you ok? You left without saying anything. And…in a hurry, might I add.
For the first time today, a smile graces your lips and you make a mental note to give him a giant hug when you get home. Quickly you type your reply.
Y/N: I’m fine! Just needed some things from the store. Sorry. Do you need anything from here? I could get some things for dinner if you need me to.
Deciding that five tests is enough, you scramble to get to the check-out line and throw the tests down onto the moving black belt as a ding from your phone signals Namjoon reply.
Joon♥: No, I think we’re ok. Jin is making Yukaejang tonight. Thanks though.
The bags under the cashier’s eyes suggest that she’s probably been here for more hours than she’d like to be as she runs the first box through the red laser in front of her. You can tell by the empathetic look in her eyes that she’s unsure of how you’re feeling about the possibility of being pregnant, but you’re eternally grateful when she doesn’t say anything and just slides both boxes quickly into a small paper bag she had hidden under the counter. You must be frowning because as much as you wish she wouldn’t say anything at all, when she hands you the bag, her smile grows fonder and the pitch of her voice sinks to a low motherly tone you didn’t know you needed to hear.
“I hope you get the results you’re looking for.” She says and turns away from you to the customer behind you. Even though she isn’t looking at you anymore, to the best of your ability you return her smile and rush out of the store to your car. The weight of the tests in the paper bag feels lighter than you imagined, as well as the world of nervousness you carry on your shoulders.
When you arrive at the apartment, you ignore the concerned calls the guys throw at you and rush straight to the bathroom in the hallway. You can feel the way each of the nerves in your body quivers and rips apart into more, smaller, nerves that quiver two times as violently as you open each package of Tests, laying them all out on the counter. They’re all equally as intimidating as the next, but you prepare them all the same. Your hands sweat and shake after you’ve taken them all and the cold edge of the tub you sit upon only offers you a tiny amount of relief as you wait. While you think of all the ways this could literally go ANY slower, as though you were watching a pot of water waiting for it to boil, your mind wonders off in directions you wish it wouldn’t. What if Joon kicks you out? If Yoongi finds out will he fight with the boys again? Beg them to make you leave? You should anyway…shouldn’t you? And what if this is too much for the boys? This is totally unfair of you right? They…don’t deserve this.
Too many minutes pass before Jungkook starts to worry you’ve fallen in the toilet to an entirely different universe. He intends to check your room to see if maybe you’ve snuck out without them knowing. But as he passes door after door, a terrifying, blood curdling scream curls around the door frame of the bathroom, threatening to warp everything in its path as it floods the hall. Barging in feels like the sane thing to do as the hairs on his arms stand on end from the hilt of his elbow to the very tips of his fingers, but he stays glued to the door as he knocks heavily.
“Y/n?! Are you alright?” Jungkook pushes his ear against the door and listens when you don’t answer but he understands why when he hears the unnerving sound of gagging and vomit splashing the back of the porcelain toilet bowl. “I…Can I get you anything? A glass of ice water? Y/n…?” Again, he hears nothing and his worry spikes as he tries the door handle. Normally he wouldn’t invade on your privacy, but he finds the door unlocked and you on the other side with your head in your hands and your lips parted with exhaustion as your body trembles.
“Y/n…” He breathes out and immediately grabs a washcloth out of the vanity drawer, soaking it in warm water. Kneeling next to you, he tucks strands of your hair behind your ear. Tears streak your cheeks, dragging with them streams of black mascara. “Hey. Look at me.” He instructs gently. When you lift your head to look at him, his brows scrunch together sympathetically, and a small smile grows on his lips. He takes his time looking over your face and glides his fingers into your hair, holding you in place to wipe away your tears. The action is a rather intimate one you think, but you watch his concentrated eyes as he worries at your obvious pain.
“Why are you crying, beautiful? What happened?” He asks, blushing only slightly at the endearment he’d let slip, and uses the cloth to wipe your pretty pink lips free of any left-over residue. He’s careful and slow, never missing a single detail. The truth of the situation floats around in your mind. The way Jungkook’s eyes burn into your soul only upsets you further, making telling him the results that much more devastating.
Today marks the 6th day that you’d woken with the violent need to empty your stomach of all its contents. At first you thought nothing of it. Maybe it was something Jin made that you simply didn’t agree with. The second night could have been the 2 and a half bowls of ice cream you and Jimin had consumed together in front of the TV on movie night. The third could have been how you’d brushed your teeth and then downed a glass of orange juice immediately after, gagging when the two substances mixed on your tongue. The fourth day you’d tried to convince yourself that maybe you were sick but with only 2 ugly acts of puking first thing in the morning every morning, you knew this was something different. You’d made all the excuses you could for yourself before you started to panic on the fifth day. Thinking back to your last period and reminding yourself of the current date, your mind had shut down and you’d retreated to bed early during the middle of the show you had been watching with the boys. So far, you were 2 weeks late and counting. Five pregnancy tests and another round of puking that only validated the results later, proved that your worst fear had come true.
And it’s in this moment, looking into Jungkook’s eyes, that you crumble completely. “I…I’m pregnant.” Initially it comes out in a choked sob. But the flickering Diner sign reflects in the toilet water, a horror mirage that makes what comes out next shrill. “That bastard impregnated me!” You screech out, the fear in your voice making Jungkook flinch. He doesn’t know what to say, afraid to tip you over an edge that holds no ground beneath it as a helplessness overrides his every thought and stops his hands from working on drying your tears.
In a rush of speed and worry, one by one the rest of the men come around the corner of the hallway and pile into the bathroom just as Jungkook snaps from his shock and wraps his arms around you, scooping you onto his lap. The cold porcelain of the tub shoots bolts of icy sensations along his back, but your body keeps him warm as he gently shushes your cries. They’re quiet and muffled in the fabric of his shirt but they still kill him a little on the inside. Namjoon, confused by your disheveled state, kneels at his feet and rests his hand on the back of your head.
“What the hell happened, Kook?” He asks, watching the way you bunch up Kooks shirt in your palm.
“Namjoon…” Jimin breathes out as Namjoon raises his head to look at him. The language Jimins body speaks is one of staccato words and stiff motions as one of your five pregnancy tests weighs heavily in his hand. He double, no, triple thinks about giving it to Joon before regrettably handing it over. Joon falls next to Jungkook against the tub and covers his mouth as he examines the test. Two red lines, side by side, stare back him.
Yoongi stands idly by, an arm wrapped around his midsection while the other presses stiffly against his side, heart clenching and fingers playing nervously with the opening of his jeans pocket. Through the small window above the toilet, a flash of lightning strikes too close for comfort and everyone in the bathroom jumps.
“I should have killed that guy. Who the hell does he think he is anyway!? Putting his hands on you! On ANY woman! How dare he put you in this situation! DAMN IT I SHOULD HAVE KILLED HIM!” Namjoon yells. The others stay silent and you peek at the 7 men standing before you. Their faces are twisted with sadness and a new kind of guilt settles in the pit of your stomach for making such beautiful features into blue, blurred paintings. They know now, why you’re here.
“Namjoon…” Jin warns with a loving hand on his brothers’ shoulder.
“I’m sorry…I’m just so…” Namjoon tries to explain but goes radio silent, only the subtle sound of unsteady breathing amongst the boys left over. His eyes rim a dark maroon and the swell of a single tear whelms them, but they never fall.
Outside, a monstrous growl of thunder rolls slowly over Seoul. Heavy drops of rain pelt the earth, leaving the air stagnant with the sweet scent of soil. It contrasts the delicious scent of Yukaejang boiling on the stove that no one seems to want to eat now. Wind howls and rattles the glass of the window, the room going dark as another crack of thunder pounds overhead.
“I’ll get some candles lit.” Jimin announces and quickly leaves the room.
“Kook bring her to the living room. I’ll light the fireplace. Hoseok, gather up some blankets. And Yoongi, pillows. We’ll all sleep together tonight.” Jin snaps into action and orders all his younger brothers to their tasks, the timbre of his voice light and friendly. “Taehyung, can you clean up for Y/n? Maybe get her some fresh pajamas?”
Tae doesn’t move. His eyes are glued to the tests lined in a row on the counter, all of them with double red lines showing on their little screens. All of them giving a new meaning to why you’re here. To why Namjoon brought you here. To why he wanted-no, NEEDED to take care of you.
“Taehyung-ah.” Jin said softer and watched the young one’s eyes move to where Jungkook still cradled you in his arms before turning on his heals, following his eldest brother away from the thickness of the bathroom.
Namjoon leaves too. He says nothing and you don’t expect him too. The soft kiss he leaves on top of your head says enough before he exits.
“Jungkook…I’m scared.” You whisper low enough that you don’t think he heard you over the sound of the downpour outside. But he hugs you closer to him and talks into your hair. Yet again he doesn’t know what to say, what he should say. The first thing that comes to mind seems like the most obvious and the least sensitive, but it feels right.
“Don’t be.” Right. As if that were even an option. Mentally smacking himself for saying that, he doesn’t expect you to curl into him anymore than you already have and squeeze him.
“Okay.” Is all you say, defeated and tired as he stands and carries you with him to his room. You honestly don’t have the strength to disagree but the choice you make to believe him settles something in your heart. If he says dont be scared, then you won’t be. Taehyung meets you both in the hall, your pajamas in hand as he follows you into Jungkook’s room to leave them for you before exiting. It’s very dark, illuminated only by the occasional flash of lightning. Warmth leaves your body as you’re torn from his body, your hands reaching out and catching his arm and the hem of his shirt before he can get too far away.
“Hey.” He says softly, close enough that you can feel his warm breath dance over the apples of your cheeks. “I’ll be right back. Just getting you some baby wipes for your face, ok? I’ll be back, I promise.” A flash of lighting illuminates his face for a split second and your breath catches at how close he is, and how painfully beautiful he looks. His hair, a heap of black waves, frames his face perfectly. Its’ darkness lightens his chocolate irises and porcelain skin, and only deepens the rosy pink of his lips. They’re parted, his lips, slightly and dripping with his promise as he pulls away from you. You listen to the pitter patter of his feet mix with the raindrops hitting the window and quickly change when you hear him rummaging around in his cabinets.
The pajamas delivered to you were a gift from Jimin and his mountain of Chanel products. A baby pink silk set with the Chanel logo embroidered in black clung to your frame perfectly. The bottoms alone made you want to just sink under Jungkook’s blankets and fall asleep right on the spot. The top has long sleeves that you’re sure are going to be too long for you. Yes, Jimin seems to be just a tad more petit that the rest of the guys but his physique still holds its own strength, a strength you don’t fit into. Still, you pull your top off just as Jungkook steps out from his bathroom. Flashes of light freeze images of your bare back to him. The curve of your side and swell of your hip making him take a slow step forward before the room goes dark again. More flashes reveal to him your arms raised high above your head, your hair waving and grazing your skin as silk slinks down your body. But one last flash shows him the yellowing bruises at your hips and the deep cuts the man’s nails scarred your body with at the small of your back. Clearing his throat so as not to startle you, he walks in your direction, the bag of baby wipes crinkling in his hands the closer he gets.
“Are you ready?” He asks as you turn to him, eyes finally adjusting to the dark as you reach out for him again. He takes your hand in his and glides it up your arm as you lean into him.
“Yeah I think so.” A part of you is afraid to meet the others in the living room. You can imagine it now, the looks on their faces. Disgust. Did you disgust them?
“Do I…disgust you? Or…or do you think the others are disgusted by me now that they know what happened?” You know it’s ridiculous to ask this question, but it gurgles just beneath the surface of your already overflowing mind.
His features become disgruntled in an array of different emotions. “Y/n. If there is anyone that we are disgusted with, it’s the sorry excuse for a man that did this to you.” A quiver breaks through his voice that almost makes you wish you hadn’t brought it up. Even in the darkness of the room, when he cups your cheeks in his gentle hands and strokes your tear stained skin with his thumbs, you’re glad that all your deepest thoughts and emotions come out in front of him. “Trust me when I tell you that there’s nothing in this entire world that could ever make the guys or myself disgusted by you. Okay?” He asks and again you choose to lean on any reason to believe him that he gives you. “Trust me.” Jungkook says softer this time. With unsteady hands you reach up and holds his wrists like they’re the only things keeping you from drowning.
“I trust you.” You whisper and push your cheek deeper into the curve of Jungkook’s palm, who pulls you into his chest and curls his fingers in your hair. Laced with hints of cocoanut and peppermint, the scent of his cologne reminds you of the beach. The warmth of his chest against your cheek makes you think of the sun and the feeling of being baked by its rays. And the sound of his steady breathing feels like your standing in the sand listening to the pulse of the waves as they crash and pull on the shore. For a moment you forget its raining. You forget about the lightning that strikes the ground and the ominous roll of thunder. For a moment…you’re at your happy place.
“Come on. The boys are probably worried.” Protective arms detach from around you, but he doesn’t step away. Instead, with his free hand, he laces your fingers together and guides you to the living room. Everyone is there, and regardless of the mood they had all entered through the bathroom, the new mood they brought to the living room was much lighter. Each of them smiled up at you as you joined then, Jungkook plopping the two of you down on the couch next to Taehyung who had already made you a spot there.
“I hope you like comedy because there’s this hilarious Adam Sandler movie I’ve been waiting to watch.” Hobi announces in a voice that brightens the room, and presses play for the flat screen hanging on the wall. You don’t have time to pay much attention to the movie because Jungkook gets to work opening the package of baby wipes. Long, nimble fingers pull out one of the damp white cloths and presses it to your skin. In carefully calculated swipes, Jungkook clears your face of all the residue left over from your make up. You watch his eyes. They’re stunning, you think to yourself. His extra dark chocolate orbs turn into a nutty honey color under the flickering light of the candles lit and scattered around the living room. And the deeper you look, the more you see. A ring of coal black encircles them, matching the void in the center. Cracks that resemble that of the bark of trees trap flecks of gold within them. Though you know how young he is, its as if you can see every age ring within him, see the oldest of oaks, a golden wood.
With each swipe, he becomes less concentrated, less accurate in his movements and finds himself going over parts of your face he knows he’s already cleaned but he chooses them as his favorite’s as he goes over them one last time. The line of your jaw just under your ear, the very top of your cheekbone just under your eye, and the thin path of your nose that buttons right at the end. It’s only when he catches your eyes on him that he remembers what he’s doing.
“Um. I think we’re done.” He says quietly, dropping his head down to attempt to hide the way he sucks his bottom lip in between his teeth, but you don’t miss it. And you definitely don’t miss the adorably tiny mole just under his bottom lip. How enchanting, you think. “I’m going to put this away and grab an extra pillow. Do you need anything?” He asks, daring to peek at you.
“Maybe an extra blanket?” Behind you, you observe a sleeping Tae curled up into the corner of the couch with his arms covering his face. A light snore seeps through his plush lips and the blanket he’d gathered for you on the couch was cocooned around him. “Mine is being used.” You say through a small giggle as you turn back to Jungkook who smiles down at his sleeping friend and nods.
“Ill be right back.” He races off down the hall, leaving you with the rest of the guys. Hobi and Jimin are snuggled up together under the same blanket on the floor, clinging to each other as they giggle and chuckle at the scenes playing before them. Namjoon reads with his back pressed into Jin who snores louder than Tae, in a lounge chair. His long legs are stretched out in front of him, reading glasses resting on the edge of his nose as he turns page after page. Its ridiculously adorable how both unbothered and comforted by his older brother he is. Jin stirs in his sleep and Joon looks up just long enough to make sure he’s ok and you smile. Suga sits with his back against the leg of the coffee table and his arms folded over his chest. His eyes are closed but you can tell he isn’t asleep by the way his foot ticks to a beat you can’t hear. From what you can see he doesn’t seem to have any headphones in but he’s listening to a song only he can hear. You wish you could hear it too.
Jungkook returns as quickly as he can, a pillow and the comforter from his bed spilling out of his arms as he approaches you. Into the opposite corner from Tae, kook throws one of the pillows behind his head and places the other into his side for you. If he were anyone else besides Joon, you probably would have hesitated. However, as you lay your head upon the pillow and tuck your legs behind Tae’s, you can’t imagine being anywhere else. You take one last look around the room and find a comfort in it you can only recall experiencing one other time in your life; your friendship with Joon.
Sparring a glance at your childhood friend, your savior in many ways, an old smile you’ve smiled more times than you can count perks up the corners of your lips. He’s sound asleep, the book in his hands closed on his lap as his glasses tip closer and closer to the end of his nose while he breathes deeply, his head tilted to the side in an endearing way. Before long, Jungkook goes limp beneath you as well. Both your bodies and minds calm from the stress and excitement of the day as the thunder outside persists, all of it a natural lullaby that’s sung to you one note at a time. You are only granted a moment long enough to wonder if this is the song Yoongi is listening to, but as soon as you focus on all the components to the song, the lyrics, the melody, the tempo, you’re drifting far, far, off into dreamland.

Patch Me Up - Steve H
Steve Harrington x Reader
Summary: Canon Divergent Season 2
The reader is enjoying a quiet night in when four middle schoolers turn up on her doorstep with a battered and bruised Steve Harrington in the backseat.
Warnings: some blood, swearing, hurt comfort
Word Count: 2,500
There was frantic thumping at the front door, breaking you focus on the tv in the lounge. You shouted out a frustrated, “I’m coming,” before turning down the sound and heading to door, where someone was still pounding on the door.
“What?” you asked, swinging the door open to find four middle-schoolers standing on your doorstep. You leaned out the door way to look at the car sitting at your driveway. You recognised the shortest, with curly hair poking our from under his cap, as Dustin Henderson, who you had done some tutoring with last year, not that he needed it. The other two were his friends Mike and Lucas, who you had seen hanging out in the home while you had been there. The fourth was a red haired girl around the same age, who looked familiar but you couldn’t quite put your finger on where you had seen her.
You looked at the car a little closer, realisation dawning on you.
“Is that Billy Hargrove’s car?” It had been hard to miss him roaring around the school car park before and after school. The guy reeked of trouble and you had stayed well away. Then the realisation hit. That was why the red haired girl looked familiar, you had seen her in the car, his sister most likely.
“We need your help,” Dustin spoke up, a desperation in his voice, as his hand grabbed your jumper, pulling you from the doorway into the cold night.
“Wait,” you pull free from his hand, but continue to follow.
“Please, he’s not looking good.” You shake your head, hoping that they haven’t brought Billy himself here. having no idea what exactly these kids have gotten themselves into. Mike opens the back door, to reveal a motionless body in the back seat.
“Steve?” you ask, and there is a small groan from the back seat.
Oh shit, from the light from the front porch and the street lamp you can tell he is battered and bruised. A deep gash over his eye, a swollen lip and blood covering his face. You move immediately into the back seat, managing to crouch over him in the confined space to get a closer look at his injuries.
You look back over your shoulder at the kids crowding around the door, as if you will know what to do next. You know you need to get a better look at his wounds and just how much damage there is.
“Let’s get him inside,” you tell them climbing back out and moving to the other side of the vehicle to be able to grab hold of his shoulders. You point to the two tallest boys, “Help me lift him.”
They give a nod and come round to the other side of the vehicle to meet you.
Between the five of you, you manage to make your way into the house, and clumsily lower Steve on the couch, a groan leaving his lips at the impact.
“Sorry,” you mutter, as you shoot a look at Dustin who gives an apologetic smile. You move to the cupboard in the kitchen, searching the shelves until you find the first aid kit, hoping that it has been refilled since the last time it was used.
“Can I help?” the red haired girl asks.
“Can you get a bowl fill it with some water, and grab a towel from under the sink. And get one of your friends to grab something frozen from the freezer in the basement. I think there are some peas.” Your hands are shaking and you hold onto the counter to steady them, taking a deep breath, before moving away again.
The three boys are crowded around Steve, watching intently, with one whispering encouragement to him. You kneel beside him, opening the kit next to you on the coffee table. Tilting you head as you try to work out what to address first.
The bowl of water is placed next to you and the girl gives you a small smile, before she turns to they boys. “Lucas can you get something frozen from downstairs.”
Lucas gives a nod and makes his way to the hallway.
You soak the towel in the water, before squeezing out the excess.
“Hey, Steve,” you whisper, “It’s Y/N. This might sting a bit okay.” You gently dab the towel across his temple, moving down slowly over his eye, to his cheek careful not to add too much pressure. Sighing as the towel is quickly discoloured and you return it to the bowl to clean it off. As you return to clean the wound, there is a sharp intake of breath, and Steve’s eyes open slightly.
“Y/N?” His hand reaches up, as if he is about to cup your cheek and your motions stop at his movement. His hand grazes your cheek, just barely, before it slumps back down to his side.
“Yeah, me.” He goes to move up, and you gently place a hand on his shoulder stopping him, he doesn’t need much convincing to lay back into the couch. His eyes closing again. Lucas returns to the room clutching two bags of frozen peas and places them next to you on the coffee table.
You press the towel against his lip, wincing, as the deepness of the split comes into view as you clean the blood away.
“Who did this?” You ask, turning briefly to the kids, before focusing on Steve again. You want to murder them, a protective feeling rising up inside.
“My brother, Billy.”
“He was going to kill us,” Lucas chimes in. You clench your jaw, as your suspicions about Billy are confirmed.
“He would have killed him, if Max didn’t knock him out.” Mike adds. You raise an eyebrow at this, how exactly a girl of Max’s size could take out someone like Billy.
“There was a sedative,” she shrugs, pulling her jacket sleeves over her hands. A sedative? That raises more questions than it answers.
“And you’re all here because?” It still didn’t quite make sense how exactly they had come to your home.
“Steve was in and out of it, but he told us to come here.” Why would he have told them that? You and Steve had barely spoken since middle school. A passing glance in the school hallway was all that you had shared in the past year.
He was King Steve after all, and you were, well, you.
It had been simpler when you were younger, living next door to each other on the same street, around the same age, it had been almost inevitable that you had become friends. He had come to our house when things became too much at home. When his Dad was in one of his ‘moods’.
Your mom always would make you both a plate full of grilled cheese, which you would take to your treehouse, pretending that you had run away, making this place your home, a childhood fantasy escape.
He had been your first kiss up in that treehouse. It was only a peck on the lips, but you had held onto that memory since that day and could recount every aspect of it.
But all that had changed once you got to high school. Steve had always been good at making friends, and being popular had come easily to him. You had struggled and been left behind. It hurt, but you thought of it as the natural progression of things. People change and no good thing lasts forever.
“Is he going to be okay?”
“I think so,” you said your voice wavering as you applied another bandage, pulling the wound closed. You took one of the bags of peas, pressing it against his eye, hoping to bring down the swelling that was starting to develop.
“We need to go Dustin,” Mike whispered.
“Where are you going?”
“We need to do something.” Mike answered, cryptically.
“At this time of the night?”
“Our friends are in danger.”
“Wait a second, Steve was out cold in the back seat,” you turn towards Max, “you drove here. Can you even reach the pedals?”
“We used a brick,” Dustin volunteered proudly.
“Well you can’t go out there again.”
“You could drive us to the field.” Dustin suggested.
“Yeah, that way we might actually get there in one piece.” You considered the four friends before looking back down at Steve. You couldn’t leave him here, if he deteriorated someone needed to be with him. But you couldn’t let these kids go out on their own. Especially with Billy still unaccounted for.
You let out a groan of frustration, “Fine, but we can’t leave him here. We need to get him back in the car.”
“We need supplies.” Dustin suggested, “Gloves, goggles, protection.”
“Protection from what?”
“Do you have something like that?” Mike asks, ignoring the question.
“Go have a look in the basement, there may be some of my dad’s work gear.” You suggested, giving up on trying to reason with the determined kids, wondering how exactly Steve had gotten mixed up in all of this. The Steve you knew, wouldn’t have been caught dead babysitting a bunch of middle schoolers. Even if one of them happened to be Nancy Wheeler’s brother.
The kids disappeared from the room, as you began to repack the first aid kit, ready to take with you to wherever it was you were going. A hand brushed up against your own, which you had left over Steve’s without even realising.
“Y/N?” Steve had come to again, and seemed just as confused by your presence as he had before. He started to look around frantically, his eye not covered by the bag of peas darting around the room, “where?”
“They’re fine.” You answered. Placing your hand gently on his chest, his breathing calming at your touch. “They are getting supplies.” He goes to move again, resting on his elbows in an attempt to stand up.
“Whoah,” you place your hands firmly on his shoulders keeping him in place, “You need to keep still. Billy really did a number on you.”
“You patched me up?”
“Yeah, just like old times,” you say with a chuckle, remembering putting a Smurfs band aid on his knee after he came off the tire swing, years ago. Placing a gentle kiss to his cheek in the promise it would make him ‘all better’, ignoring the blush that immediately spread across your cheeks.
“We can’t let them go,” he sighed. Holding the bag to his eye as he winced in pain.
“I don’t think we can stop them. And there is no way I am letting them drive out to a field in the middle of nowhere to do God knows what.”
“I’ll drive them, you don’t need to,”
“You are in no condition to drive. And you brought all this to my doorstep.“ There was no way you were letting Steve or those kids out of your sight. You know there is something he isn’t telling you.
“Why did you bring them here anyway? It’s not like we’re friends. Not anymore.” You look away, concentrating on sorting the items back into the first aid kit. “I mean, you have Nancy now.” You wish you could take it back as soon as the words leave your lips, it sounds bitter, it sounds jealous.
Steve gives a small smile, as much as his face will allow him, “Didn’t you hear? She, um, we broke up.”
“Oh,” your voice is quiet, as you let the news hit you, “sorry.” You had heard that she had left the school early yesterday with Jonathon Byers, but you had just attributed that to high school rumours.
“You always looked out for me, since we were kids and I’ve been an asshole, I shouldn’t have let popularity get in the way of our friendship. It was a dick move.”
“The kids said that you stood up to Billy, that you saved them and he did this to you.” You push back the hair from his forehead, you fingers trailing down his cheek.
“You should see him,” he gives a chuckle which quickly turns into a cough as his hand grips his side. You place your own hand over his, concerned that there may be more to his injuries than what you can see on the surface.
“That’s not something a popular high school asshole would usually do.” You say in a low whisper, and he smiles back at you. A tension settling over the room as his thumb moves over your knuckles.
“Okay we have everything,” Dustin announces loudly as the troop re-enters the living room, holding an assortment of items. You snatch your hand away, and get up quickly.
“Oh good, you’re awake.” Dustin, reaches over to pat Steve’s shoulder, “You almost had him, really, this close.”
“Thanks Dustin,” Steve mumbles as he manages to sit up on the couch, as you watch him closely, looking for any further signs of a concussion, but are relived to see that there is some colour returning to his skin.
“We need to get this into the car,” Mike says holding up the ‘supplies’, Max holds up the car keys in her hand and moves to the door, the other kids following suit.
“Guess we are moving on then,” you sigh, standing up and holding out your hand for Steve to hold onto to. You pull him up into a standing position and although he wavers slightly, placing his weight onto your shoulder for a brief moment, he manages to steady himself and move towards to the front door. You hold onto his waist just in case, he falters down the steps but loosen your grip as you walk down the driveway.
Lucas is slamming the car boot shut as you approach the vehicle, Dustin, Max and Mike already in the back seat. You move Steve around to the passenger seat, and he leans his hand against the vehicle for support.
“Shit,” you mutter as you look up to see that the cut above his eye has reopened. The first aid kit is still sitting on the coffee table.
“Wait here for a second,” you tell Steve as you race back into the house to retrieve the kit. As you approach the front door to leave you hear it, an engine starting. You break out into a run as you drop the first aid kit and run out to the car. Steve is in the driver seat, with Lucas beside him.
You bash on the closed window with your fist, while your other hand pulls desperately at the car door handle, “Steve, open the door,” you shout, “Open the fucking door!” Both of your fists slam against the window.
“Sorry, Y/N, I can’t let you get involved with this.”
You thump again, before moving back away from the car, “Please Steve.” You try again, a lump in your throat, that makes the words come out more pitiful than you intend.
“Forgive me,” he says as the engine revs and the car speeds away from your house, leaving you holding your head in your hands, cursing Steve Harrington.

Party Crashers (One Shot)
Steve Rogers x Reader where her friends jokingly send him an invite to his fan mail address for her birthday party. And Tony finds it and forces him to attend the birthday party. Reader being 100% oblivious to all of this until he literally walks in the door! 🤣🤣🤣
Here it is as requested by @katurrade my wonderful friend! Ask and you shall receive lovely! Hope you like it!
Party Crashers One Shot
Pairing: Steve Rogers X Fem!Reader
Rating:PG:13 (For jokes, booze, language, the usual) Pretty much all fluff, but there is a slight panic attack (although poorly written I can assure you)
Summary: You reluctantly agree to letting your friends throw you a birthday party, but when they send an invite to your favorite Avenger, how will things pan out?
Words: 5,576
It is AU in the sense that I’m having Tony live through endgame, and obviously Steve didn’t go back in time. Because I can’t move on. I don’t own anything but the reader and her family and friends. And the cat.
(Also the house pictured is NOT MINE. I wish it was, but sadly no. Just used it for imagining the party venue. And the dress isn’t mine either, but I can see myself owning it before the house.)
It’s also in Y/N L/N format. Enjoy!
Party Crashers
Two days before your party
“I’m. Not. Going. Stark. ” Steve Roger’s tone had a sense of finality to it, his body in a tense stance as he crossed his arms over his chest, looking at the patriotic themed party invitation that Tony was holding. A huge grin plastered on the billionaire’s face.
“Yes. You. Are. Rogers.” The man adjusted his glasses as he brought the invitation to his line of sight. Steve had tried to conceal the bright blue and red card when he got it in his fan mail that morning, but of course Stark being the snoop that he naturally was, he found it and brought it to everyone’s attention later in the Tower. “Look it’ll be good to keep in the fan’s good graces. After everything that’s happened recently, we could use the good PR.”
The blonde man sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. Everything that had happened with Thanos was over and done with, but yet the people were still terrified and on edge. Rightfully so too. He didn’t understand how going to some grown woman’s birthday celebration was going to help, especially when he had never met her. So he thought.
“Did you read the note that was attached? It’s quite cute. Ahem.” Steve rolled his eyes as Tony cleared his throat, developing a shrill feminine voice as he read it aloud to the rest of the room. “Dear Captain America. You don’t know us but our friend Y/N has a birthday coming up and we figured since you both share the same birthday it would be awesome if we invited you! We just got her back and wanted to make up for missing her these last five years. You’re her absolute favorite superhero and she’s totally had a crush on you ever since you saved her life during the Battle of New York. Not that she’ll ever tell you that. Anyways you don’t have to RSVP or anything, and you aren’t required to take pictures. Hell you could show up, say hi, and leave with cake for all we care. Hope to see you!
Stacy and Jim Higgins” The rest of the avengers were laughing at the annoyed blonde’s face when Stark finished.
“They even included a photo!” Bucky and Sam were the first to look at the picture the brunette man was holding, Sam letting out a long winded “Daaaaang” upon seeing the woman’s face. Steve had to admit that Y/N was very attractive, immediately noticing her thousand watt smile as she snuggled what he was assuming to be her pet cat.
“Tony I don’t want to do this..” Steve tried to reason with him, losing all hope when his friend typed the number on the invite into his phone, tossing the taller man the device and making a “go on” motion with his hands as it began to ring.
Rogers was beginning to think of all the ways he could get away with killing the asshole philanthropist when he heard a voice call from the other side of the line. “Hello?”
“Yes...uhm uh is this Stacy?”
“Who’s askin?”
“It’s Steve Rogers. I’m…uh.”
“OH MY GOD NO FUCKING WAY! JIM GUESS WHO’S ON THE HORN? CAPTAIN FUCKING AMERICA!!! No…No I’m not kidding you asshole.” Steve couldn’t help but give a nervous chuckle as the female voice proceeded to call the male voice a bunch of inappropriate names. He heard her take a deep breath and continue. “Sorry bout that Mister America Sir. To what do I owe the pleasure of your phone call?” He shook his head, smiling as the woman made an attempt to sound polite.
“I just wanted to RSVP for Y/N’s birthday party. Fourth of July right?”
“Yea! Five o’clock at the address on the invite! You can show up whenever though, oh man Y/N is going to FREAK OUT! Thank you so so much for doing this! I know you must be really busy. Dealing with everything going on around here.”
“It’s no problem at all…” Tony smacked the man’s arm as he grimaced, biting back a few choice words for his teammate. “I’m looking forward to it.” His comment sounded forced and fake but the woman only giggled, buying his terrible performance.
“Great! I won’t tell her you’re coming, but we can’t wait to see you! Have a good night!”
“Of course, you too.” Steve’s face was void of all emotion as he threw the phone at Tony head on, clearly trying to wipe the satisfied expression off his face.
“There that wasn’t so hard was it Rogers?”
“Go to hell Stark.” The blonde man muttered, the other raising a hand to his chest, feigning hurt feelings.
“Language Cap. You kiss your mother with that mouth? It’s not like I’m going to make you go alone. I want to see this train wreck first hand.” Mentally exhausted from today’s turn of events Steve didn’t even bother with a retort, walking out of the room to head to his bedroom. He was too old for this crap.
Day of Your Party
Lake George, New York
“No, No, I specifically told you Patty NO FIREWORKS! Y/N gets all jumpy and she’s bringing Tigger too…yes, her cat. YOU ARE NOT MESSING THIS UP FOR US PATRICIA! I WILL END YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY TREE WITH A TABLESPOON OF GASOLINE AND A MATCH! Do NOT try me today! Tell your mom I said hello. See you soon!”
Stacy ended the phone call with a huff, her eyes sweeping the large group of people that were attempting to set up last minute decorations for your birthday. Of course they would have it out at their astonishing lake side house in upper New York, away from the city and away from the seas of family reunions at Central Park. Considering the holiday, Stacy was hell bent on making sure no explosions of any kind would be happening today. She wanted everything to be perfect for you, and she wasn’t above murdering your cousin to obtain that goal. She didn’t care if she was only eleven years old.
“You threatening children again honey?” Jim quirked an thick eyebrow at his wife, watching the woman deflate just an inch before she ran off to scream at someone for hanging the wrong colored lantern above one of the large tables. He was fairly certain his wife was going to have a stroke when all of this was over. He could hope anyway. She had been a nightmare planning this whole affair for you, and that was only because you had eventually given in to her demands. It was like negotiating with the government. And he had willing married her.
He laughed as she opted to forcefully take the lantern from his brother Tyler, dragging the chair to another table and hanging it up in its rightful spot. All it took though was one saucy wink in his direction and he could feel his body relax. She was going to be the death of him.
~~A short while later~~
“I hope there isn’t too many people Mel, you know I hate feeling crowded.” You pulled into the long driveway of your best friend’s home. Mel, your sister sat strangely quiet in the passenger seat, lovingly petting a sleeping Tigger in her lap. Before Thanos she was merely a teen, now a high school graduate and looking into medical school. Tigger was barely a year old and just starting to be harness trained, the orange tabby loving the outside and you didn’t have the heart to keep him inside all the time. Now older, he still loved being outside but had gotten pudgy in your years away. You had missed out on so much, but Mel was never this quiet before. In fact, she had pretty much been silent the entire four hour drive to Lake George, only saying a few words here and there as you rambled on. “Why are you being so damn quiet? It’s creeping me out.”
Your sister only smiled at you, her eyes misted over just a bit as she shook her head. “I’ve just missed hearing you talk sis. Five years…” A small sob escaped her when you threw your car into park, reaching over to pull her into a hug.
“Hey now, it was five years for me too alright? We’re together again yeah?” Brushing the tear off her cheek you held back your own when Tigger let out a cranky mewl. That was one thing you would never get tired of. A joyful laugh left your mouth as you began to break away from the embrace, looking into your sister’s brown eyes. “Alright get out of here before you make me ruin my makeup. And just so we’re clear I expect a full blown alien conspiracy lecture tomorrow on the way home.” You jokingly scolded, watching her light up before taking the cat and dashing out of the car. Well at least she had stayed the ball of energy you had remembered.
Stepping out of your vehicle before locking the doors, you couldn’t help but let out a gasp at the house in front of you.
“I see you guys finished the remodel!” You called out when you entered the foyer.
“Y/N! You look amazing!!” Stacy yelled, coming to give you the biggest hug as if you hadn’t been back for months now and she hadn’t just seen you a couple days ago. “Where did you get that banging dress? Did they have one in purple?!”
You lightly shoved your friend, looking down at your outfit for the day.
“HEY EVERYONE, Y/N’S HERE!” A large amount of screams were heard throughout the house and soon you were being flogged by tons of family and friends. Most of them you had seen since you got back, but all of them at once was kind of suffocating. You tried to hide your nerves as you greeted the seemingly endless crowd of smiling, teary faces.
“Happy birthday Y/N!”
“You look great!”
“You got a boyfriend yet?”
“How’s work?” Holding your temple, you started to struggle to breathe, overwhelmed by all of the questions and closeness. A knock at the door seemed to stop everyone in their tracks, and you smiled gratefully as Stacy swooped in to shoo them all away.
“Let our girl breathe a little! Fuck! Buncha vultures.” Your brunette friend whispered the last part, you giggling as she led you away from the prying eyes and invasive questions. It had been nearly a year since you had come back, it wasn’t as if it was just yesterday or anything. Taking a seat on the back porch, you gladly took the mojito Jim handed to you while Stacy went to get the door, opening it widely and immediately looking confused.
“You…you aren’t Captain America.” She managed to get out as Tony Stark took off his sunglasses, reaching to take her hand and giving her a grand smile.
“Well spotted. I’m not. Tony Stark. I however, was under the assumption he was already here. “
“He’s not with you?” Your friend asked as he went to dart his eyes to his phone, a frown on his features as he went to call the avenger in question, holding a finger up to Stacy.
“He didn’t want to carpool and save the environment. He insisted he took his bike. Maybe he took a wrong turn at Albuquerque. Excuse me.” That was a blatant lie, as Tony had told Steve specifically to take his bike and offer Y/N a ride as an attempt to break the ice. Perhaps the good captain was in fact lost. He listened as the phone rang, clucking his tongue in disapproval as it went to voicemail.
“Sorry Stac, looks like you just have me for right now. I’m more than positive he’ll be here soon. I know he wouldn’t miss something like this. He loves birthday cake, as do I. But you know war heroes, always fashionably late. Shall we?” Your friend could only nod slowly, the information sinking in and Stark taking his cue to head into the large home. “Your home is stunning.”
“Thanks. Y/N should be out back.” Stacy waved him on and Tony took his time enjoying the lovely large windows and high ceilings. He also took the time to send a very strongly worded text message to Steve about punctuality, and the fact he should have beaten Stark here considering Rogers had left nearly two hours before he had.
It didn’t take him long to find you, halfway through your glass and staring out onto the massive backyard. People were playing volley ball, four or five men were manning the grill, women laughing in groups as they caught up. Even surrounded by everyone you still felt a little isolated. Not a soul paying attention to you. Noticing you were almost out of alcohol he backtracked into the house, grabbing a couple fresh minty drinks and heading back out.
“Y/N I presume?” Tony’s voice shook you out of your daydreaming, you jumping at recognizing his face. Iron Man Tony-fucking-Stark was standing just to your right, and you placed a hand over your chest in a poor attempt to steady your heart beat.
“Uhmnh…Yea….Yea that’s me.” You choked out, taking the billionaire’s drink offering and setting it down before coming back up to grasp his hand and giving it a firm shake. “I’m Y/N.”
“You sure?” His jab made you blush, you finishing your first drink before moving your steel straw into the next one. The brunette man smiled, sipping on his own drink and nodding at it in approval.
“What…what are you doing here?” Your question was blurted out at a rapid speed, the skin on your neck tingling again as Tony looked down to meet your eyes. You could tell that he had been waiting on you to ask, as it wasn’t everyday random world saving superheroes showed up to a woman’s birthday party.
“We got an invite from Stacy and her husband, but superhero business would have it that only I could make it tonight. I’m sorry if you were expecting someone taller. With blonde hair and devastating blue eyes.” You sputtered into your glass, giving Tony an incredulous look while he laughed at you. What had your friends mentioned in that invitation?
“No um, this is really wonderful. Thank..thank you for coming.” You nearly squeaked, trying to guzzle down the rest of your drink and standing from your chair. Jim signaled it was time to eat, Stacy starting to hand people red, white, and blue plates and napkins while the masses began to form a line for food. “I guess that’s our cue. Everyone will be really excited to meet you. And in case I don’t get the chance, thank you. Ya know, for saving the world.”
“All in a day’s work Y/N. Let’s get some grub, I’m starving.” You laughed as Tony extended his arm, helping you down the stairs into the party space, people offering him thanks and asking for pictures once they caught on to who he was. “No no, I’m just here for the free food and Y/N’s birthday cake. But maybe we’ll take a few photos after yeah?”
The two of you took a seat at the large long picnic table after piling your plates with ribs, potato salad, corn on the cob, and other fourth of July staples. Tony kept everyone laughing, telling stories to you and the twenty four other people that were there to celebrate. You secretly wished that you could be this outgoing, most of the time shying away from social interaction and people altogether. It would certainly help you and your lackluster personal life.
After everyone was on the brink of a food coma, Tony suggested the game of charades to help burn off some of the food to make room for cake. With it being after seven, some of the guests opted to leave for the evening, wishing you well and stealing a couple of photos with Tony before exiting. None of them seemed to notice the motorcycle parked alongside the driveway.
Steve’s eyes watched with amusement as you attempted to use your cat to imitate a machine gun, shouting Scarface quotes and Tony being the first to answer correctly. His breath was taken away by how beautiful you were in person, the picture being five years older after all. He loved the way your eyes crinkled when you laughed, and how your smiles always looked warm and inviting, even when you were clearly not doing the best at charades. Steeling his nerve he climbed off his bike, wiping his suddenly sweaty palms onto his pants and heading up to the front door of the large home. He took in a deep breath and knocked, staring into the rich oak and waiting.
“I’ll get it!” You shouted, hopping off the couch and dodging popcorn Mel was throwing at you along the way. You stuck your tongue out playfully, turning to open the door and finding yourself face to face with freedom in the flesh.
“Happy birthday Y/N.” His stunning blue eyes and even more attractive smile was too much for you and the room began to spin. “I’m Steve.”
You took his hand, suddenly feeling really light headed. His expression changed to one of concern as you took a few fumbling steps back, his strong arm instinctively reaching out to grip your waist and steady you.
“Hey you’re alright. I’ve got you.” His words had your brain going into overdrive, your mind flooding with the memory of the only other time you had heard him say that.
~May 4th, 2012~
“Why the hell should I take orders from you?!”
You heard the cop ask the man in the blue suit, you hiding behind a nearby car as you watched him interact with the officer, chaos erupting throughout the city. The entire office you worked in had evacuated in a panic, but you were one of the last ones to leave, narrowly escaping death a few times over just getting out of the building. Your eyes were glued to the man, never seeing him before in your life. He was extremely handsome from what you could tell, and clearly he wasn’t taking no for an answer. You watched as he proceeded to defeat a few of the strange creatures easily, and you couldn’t help but let out a raspy laugh as the officer quickly changed his tune.
“I need men in those buildings. Lead the people down and away from the streets. We’re gonna set up a perimeter all the way down to 39th street.” He had said the last bit into his radio, walking away and you gladly decided it was time to get your ass out of there. Standing up and headed towards the street you began running towards the nearest subway entrance. Your heart was hammering in your throat and you were sure you would have to throw out your heels and now ripped to hell dress when this was over. Turning a corner you let out a blood curdling scream as a truck came barreling through the air, you being directly in its way.
You shut your eyes and awaited death, but it never came. Instead you were grabbed roughly and tucked in between a set of buildings, a shriek leaving your lungs as you watched the truck go flying by. Your hands shot to cover your face as your panicked sobs came out before you could stop them, realizing you were alive.
“Hey you’re alright, I’ve got you.” Your hands were brought down from your face and you looked up to see the hero in blue staring intently at you, brushing some of your now loosened hair away from your face. You were certain your makeup was smeared along with dirt and dust from all of the debris floating around the city, but he only continued staring into your eyes.
“Boy do you ever.” Was all you could get out, a small smile lighting up the mystery man’s features as he grabbed your hand, looking into the street before nodding to you.
“Good. Now let’s get you to safety Doll.” You swooned and fought to keep up with the man as he started jogging back into the street, careful to help you dodge and duck the ugly looking creatures along the way. Stopping at the subway entrance he gave you a once over, making sure you weren’t bleeding as you fought a heart attack from all the cardio today had put you through. His hands on your shoulders weren’t helping things.
“You get down there and you stay safe alright miss?” You could only nod like an moron again, watching him turn to walk away.
“Hey wait!” He turned around at your newly found voice, you pointing to an alley that wasn’t under attack. “You’ll get to where you’re going faster if you take that way. It’ll lead you back to where you saved me.”
He cracked a smile, appreciating your kindness as he took off. You got all the way down the stairs before realizing you never got to thank him. Or learn his stupid name.
~Now~
“Boy do you ever.” Your words came out in a whisper, his gaze turning to one of calculation as you smiled. There was no way he could have remembered saving you. He has saved thousands, millions of people in the past, and you weren’t that memorable.
“You…you were the woman I saved from the flying truck..weren’t you?” His voice was soft as he whispered back. You nodded with wide eyes, taking note how his arm hadn’t detached itself from your waist yet. Not that you minded.
“You remember me?” You stuttered out, trying to keep your shocked nerves at bay.
“Doll I couldn’t forget you even if I tried. Those directions saved my skin that day. I’m glad to see you survived.”
“Because of you! I didn’t even know trucks could fly.” Your comment made him laugh out loud, his arm leaving your waist only to cover his stomach as he filled the house up with joy. Everyone else laughed nervously, clearly not having heard the conversation between you two and therefore not having the slightest idea what was so funny.
“I see you cut your hair, your picture doesn’t do you justice you know.”His normal voice and remark set your face on fire, you whipping your head to look at your best friend, who only sheepishly shrugged and avoided making eye contact with you. “But I like it. Suits you.” Receiving another compliment from the blonde had you grinning like a goofball.
“Thank you….and uh thanks, for saving my life all of those years ago. I never got the chance to do it back then.” You rambled, before widening your eyes again and taking a breath. “And thanks for helping bring back everyone from the decimation too! I mean I was part of that and I know everyone is really grateful and all.” Finishing your long winded spiel you began studying the designs in the hard cherry wood floor, embarrassed at how the Captain only continued to chuckle at you.
“You’re welcome…and you’re welcome.” He beamed at you, Tony loudly coughing to bring the two of you out of whatever bubble you seemed to be in together.
“This is ADORABLE to watch. Seriously. But uh, I was promised cake and I’m not leaving until I get some.” Stark whined, your friends all agreeing before wandering into the kitchen, you motioning for Steve to follow. Stacy smiled warmly at you as she took the glad cake topper off, your mouth watering at the beautiful cake she had made. It was three layers, all different swirls of red white and blue adorning it along with simple gold stars.
“Oh Stac…it’s perfect. Thank you.”
“Hey that means we can sing happy birthday to both of you!” Jim clapped Steve on the back, shaking his hand as he went to light the one huge candle that sat on top of the cake.
“As long as you don’t sing Jim I think our ears will be okay.” Mel quipped, everyone laughing as they began singing to the two of you. Your eyes welled up with tears, looking at all of the faces of people you honestly weren’t sure you’d ever see again. And two of the people that helped make that happen were here as well. How about that. Once everyone had a piece of cake you all took to sitting outside on the back porch again, watching the summer sun begin to set off in the distance. It reflected off the lake beautifully, the reds and oranges in the sky extending over the water.
“I’ve missed how peaceful it is out here Stacy. You and Jim have an absolute paradise out here.” Your friends nodded, both too busy with cake to really take in the splendor.
“I think this cake is paradise.” Tony muffled out, mouth full of the sugary treat, Steve’s shaking of his head had you and Mel giggling into your forks. “You have to get me the recipe so my wife can make it. Or we can just pay you to make it.”
“Anything for one of the guys who saved the world. I’ll write it down for ya.” Stacy’s smirk made you chuckle, her fingers snaking out to take your clean plate from you. Walking back into the kitchen, the now very happy Stark following her, Mel sighed as she looked at her watch.
“It’s not even ten yet! What are we going to do!?” Her complaint reminded you how much younger she actually was, you perfectly fine with calling it a night. Your ears perked up at the sound of soft jazz music beginning to pour out of the speakers located on the corner of the deck, Jim turning on the assortment of lanterns. The whole back yard was aglow with twinkling lights and you started to subconsciously sway to the beat. Steve’s jaw working as he began to walk over to you, shrugging out of the brown leather jacket he had been wearing and setting on a chair.
“Well I know what Y/N and I are going to do.” Steve stuck his hand out to you, you smiling timidly before reaching yours to grasp his. “Care to dance, Doll?”
“Well I’m not going to say no.” He laughed at that, bringing you over to the side of the deck that was serving as a makeshift dance floor, Jim and Stacy following your lead when she returned from the kitchen. You got a chance to take in his outfit, nice gray slacks and a simple blue button up shirt rolled up at the elbows. It wasn’t much but he didn’t need much when he looked like he had been carved out of marble by Michelangelo himself.
“I have to admit, I don’t have that much practice with dancing.” The blonde admitted, your heart fluttering as a flush crept over his face. You squeezed his hand reassuringly as he dropped his other one to sit on high on your waist.
“Is the great Captain America flustered right now?” You giggled, allowing him to spin you around. “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. But for the record…” You gingerly took his hand at your waist, lowering it a little to where it sat just above your hip. “Your hand will be a lot more comfortable here. And you should relax some. I don’t bite.”
He swallowed thickly and nodded, you both swaying to the music in a comfortable silence as it played on, Jim making sure the songs stayed slow so you wouldn’t part ways so quickly. Eventually you began making small talk, asking him about his life and interests, Steve obviously very interested in what you had been up to since Thanos’ defeat. You found him extremely easy to talk to, your jokes making him laugh, his eyes crinkling with joy as the time passed.
“So we might as well start making wedding invitations now.” Mel uttered to Tony when he curiously eyed the Captain, your sister and Stark looking to each other before chuckling. “She’s not going to let him go now that they’ve met officially.”
“That’s funny, because I was thinking the same thing. About him. Maybe he’ll find that life I told him to get.” Mel laughed at the brunette, both of them nodding to the other couple to vacate the dance floor. Stacy couldn’t help the sly smile as you and Steve continued to talk, so enamored in each other you didn’t notice everyone else leaving the back yard to give you some privacy. Ten minutes later the next song came to a close, Steve attempting to lower you into a small dip that made your knees weak in more ways than one.
“Thanks for the dance Y/N.”
“Dances Mister Rogers, and back at you. They were lovely. Now where did everyone…. “ You began to look around, a slight familiar panic setting in as your eyes searched for your friends and the billionaire. You sighed in exasperation as you watched them scatter. Failing miserably at making themselves look busy and like they hadn’t been watching you two. “Go.”
“I’m sure they mean well.” Steve’s eyes sparkled as you rolled your own.
“Sure yea. They’re probably in there planning our first date.”
“Our first date?” You went to cover your face with your hands, a high pitch squeak coming out when you came to terms with the fact you had said that out loud.
“OhmygodI’msososorry” You rushed out, continuing to hide your face as you were certain you were the brightest shade of red in the rainbow.
“Y/N it’s alright…”
“No it’s not. You’re out there saving the world, and I’m sure that coming to this dumb party my exhausting friends probably blackmailed you into was the last thing on your to do list. And then I have to go and ruin a perfectly nice moment by opening my big mouth and asking you out when knowing my luck you’re already dating some stunning Amazonian woman who can cook and makes you stupid happy!” Anger boiled in your veins as the blonde could only stare at you, partially concerned you might combust, and partially endeared that you clearly had a big crush on him.
“For the record, Tony made me come tonight. But you’re the sole reason I’ve stayed.” Steve took your clenched hand, giving it a soft squeeze and the noise that died in the back of your throat couldn’t have been remotely human. “And secondly, I’m single, and extremely flattered. But I’m afraid there’s a small problem.”
“You’re afraid I’m crazy and will probably burn down your house if you ignore me for too long?” He blinked at you, taking a moment to let that sentence sink in before shaking his head.
“No, I don’t know if you’re a cup of coffee or dinner and a movie kind of girl. “ His grin had you seeing fireworks and holy star spangled banner Steve Rogers was asking you out! Quickly jolting out of your over-excitement you managed a coy giggle, you removing your hand from his before placing it on his right cheek. Bringing yourself up to your tiptoes you allowed your lips to lightly kiss his left cheek, feeling the warmth radiate through his skin upon contact.
“Well in your case Steve, I’m both. Dinner tomorrow night when I get back into town?”
His eyes didn’t leave yours, you sliding your hand away only to have him take it again. Your heart raced as he placed a chaste kiss on your knuckle, grinning at you like a love struck puppy.
“I’ll pick you up on the bike at seven o clock. Hope you like Italian.”
“I do.” You nodded, you immediately missing his hand when he let it go.
“Great, then it’s a date.”
“So it is.” You bit back a girlish scream internally as he began to walk away, before turning around and bashfully asking for your phone number. You typed it into his phone, laughing the entire time. Everyone gathered outside for a quick photo with the two Avengers, Steve staying right next to you, a hand on your waist and the two of you looking nothing short of smitten with each other. You gave both of them a quick hug goodbye, Tony’s being longer because he complained about you not dancing with him at all and he deserved better treatment because he was there first.
“Goodnight Y/N. Happy Birthday.” You smiled at the blonde, giggling as Tony had to physically grab the back of Steve’s jacket to pull him out of the doorway.
“Happy birthday Steve. See you tomorrow.” You waved them on, leaning against the frame as the two men became shapes in the dark. It wasn’t long after you heard the rumble of a motorcycle and a car start up, headlights pulling down the road as they drove off.
“I’m sorry they had to go.” Mel patted your shoulder as you shut the door, locking the bolt and turning off the porch light. You smiled at your sister saucily, throwing her a wink after she shut the blinds behind the couch.
“Me too, but god did I love watching him leave.”
Her response was a pillow. To your face.

Vitale hurried, bundled in his heavy uniform complete with greatcoat and beret. He was thankful for it in the cloud-dimmed dawn and freezing snow. He managed to meet Becker on time, the first time since arriving.
His reward was a frown instead of a lecture.
Today marked a week in Anglia. Different for certain, but not all bad. He was alive for starters. But Becker clearly didn’t care for him. He hardly acknowledged him. Even with his scolding, Vitale could count on one hand the number of times Becker addressed him, on two when he spoke in general.
Yet, few Anglians were more talkative.
Königsberg had a number of bridges at its center, cleaved by a river that flowed south from the sea. It forked, creating an island where five bridges linked the different areas of the fortress city. When they didn’t take the bridge to the office, Vitale stopped.
“Becker, sir?”
“Address me as Earl Becker.” He didn’t even pause, crossing a different bridge.
“Earl Becker, sir, are we not going into the office today?” Vitale took a final glance to the faithful bridge before hopping into a jog after him.
“It’s about time you met the men.”
“Aio! Really? I can’t wait. I’ve wanted to meet them, but I don’t know where anything is yet.” Vitale laughed, hoping Becker would offer a tour at some point. He was as silent as the morning. “I don’t think I’ve been this way yet.” It was easy to see the roads were wider here. Instead of homes, the path was lined with stables and tall, long buildings Vitale could only guess were warehouses. He couldn’t help but notice how these weren’t half decomposed or neglected.
Supplies, probably.
The road stopped at a set of massive, wooden doors. The guard stationed there saluted, the build up of snow on his cap and shoulders tumbling down his jacket as he turned to enter a smaller gate. Becker followed him and Vitale joined.
A short hallway opened into a massive courtyard. Its sides were made up of long buildings, four floors high, bare board siding and several windows. The wall at the far end was one of the massive block walls that made up the outer shell of the fortress. Becker pointed left.
“This building holds Grandmaster Møller and Earl Rask’s men.”
“Earl Rask?”
“That building is where my men and the armory are.” He pointed to the right. Besides a few training targets and snow, the courtyard was empty. “These are the barracks of North Command. Smaller, guest barracks for South and Central Command are near the main gate.” Before Vitale could question, Becker moved towards the building on the right only to stop in the center of the yard. Vitale hurried up beside him and waited.
And waited.
No one joined them, in fact there was no other noise besides the whistling wind of the ramparts.
“Vitale,” Becker speaking without being spoken to startled him.
“Y-yes, sir?”
“On the fourth morning of the month you will round up the men at dawn for inspection.” Becker peered down from over the collar of his long coat. Vitale glanced from him to the barracks, waiting. There was nothing, empty. After a moment he looked back to Becker.
“There’s no one—”
“Line up Löwen!” He bellowed out, echoing off stone walls. Vitale shrank at the volume, pretending he hadn’t nearly jumped out of his skin. Becker passed the glare back down, “All you have to do is call them into the yard. Their Thengs will do the rest. You shouldn’t be able to mess that up, should you?”
At once thundering boots raided the yard. Flooding from the breezeway of the barracks lower level, hundreds of identically dressed soldiers rushed out. In their charcoal greys, carrying packs and blades, they took up individual places in the snow. Invisible marks to stand at arms’ length in perfect squares. Every so often a man in a gold embellished helm accompanied them, standing at attention at the front creating neat aisles.
Just as quickly as they arrived, the stream stopped and everyone went still. Vitale stared, struggling to understand if this was awe or fear –perhaps both. He couldn’t understand how they knew where to stand, where to begin finding their place, or how they simply weren’t shivering.
Becker rocked into a step, hands clasped behind his back as he approached the rows. The first man he arrived at was one with a gold helm, Vitale recognizing him as the officer from the river, Kuebrich.
“How many wounded?” Becker asked and Vitale floundered with what to say.
“Five are still in infirm, sir.” Kuebrich nodded, eyes set past Becker. “Six have recovered and returned.” Becker nodded, scanning over the detachment before slowly turning to Vitale.
“This is Thegn Kuebrich, leader of my scouting division. If, for some reason, I am unable to give orders, he will take charge.” Vitale glanced to the Thegn, his thin mouth curving into a soft smile. It relaxed him to a degree. Becker turned on his heels, regarding the other two Thegns. “Listen up, this is Officer Vitale –from Rome. He is going to be with us for a little while, under my charge. His job is to observe and report back to Rome, and therefore will be guarded as property of the alliance. If you have any complaints, you will report them directly to me. Understood?”
“Yes sir!” They chanted in unison.
“Vitale,” he waved him after, meeting the next gold helmed man. “This is Thegn Thorn, of the Cavalry division.” He was older, tanned and weathered, with eyes that squinted beneath his bent brown. He offered out a handshake and Vitale hesitantly took it.
“Good to meet you, Office Vitale…” Thorn retracted his hand as Becker slid past him into the rank and file. Vitale scrambled as to what to do, deciding to follow. Slinking between the rows and neatly groomed soldiers, he glanced between them, noticing the way they kept face. Like statues. Only their eyes following.
“Your name, Fryd?” Becker asked a lanky adolescent.
“Bursar, sir.” He answered, eyes afront, stonelike. Becker scrutinized him, tipping back his cap.
“You were wounded, correct?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Bursar held the river from Rus invaders in Gerrik, sir.” Thorn spoke up from the head of the line.
“Already back on your feet? Are you well?”
“As I can be, sir.” He never once looked at Becker.
“Congratulations would be in order, however, I see you’ve been careless.” He reached up for the boy’s chinstrap, a light tug snapping it from the helm. “You aren’t taking care of your gear. No excuse, you’ll be on maintenance this afternoon.”
Bursar didn’t argue, didn’t have the time. Becker turned on his heels, Vitale hurrying to backpedal out of the way before following him back to the front.
“I expect you to keep an eye on this one, Thorn.”
“Yes sir,”
The third Thegn was taller than the others, as broad as Thorn with less age on him. His hair was braided into rows against his scalp, bunched at the back of his neck.
“Vitale, this is Thegn Quinn. He leads the Infantry division.” Quinn moved in a much more lively manner, shaking hands with a wink.
“A good assistant, I see, sir.” His voice was loud, thick with a rhotic accent Vitale could only describe as the way someone’s voice lengthened and swayed while drunk. Quinn was solid as a rock, flashing a smile that stood out against his dark complexion. “We’re glad ta have you, Officer Vitale.”
“Thank you, Thegn Quinn. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well.”
“Well, now that we have introductions out of the way, I want it known that Vitale will be assembling you from now on.” Becker addressed them all. Quinn’s hand went limp, face elongating as he stared at Becker. “Do you have a problem with that, Thegn?”
“Nae –no sir, not at all.” He caught the expression, drawing back in place. With a nod, Becker stepped away, back down the line.
“As you’ve all most likely heard, Officer Vitale is my new assistant. He will be bringing you all forward for inspections for the time being. I expect you to all respect him just the same.” Turning to face all three divisions, he nodded. “He will dismiss you now.”
Vitale froze as Becker looked at him.
He had never dealt with soldiers before, certainly not a crowd, and definitely not near machines like Anglians. Clearing his throat he glanced again to Becker in hopes of some signal or explanation. “Uh… D-dismissed,” he chirped, swallowing as the lines turned one at a time towards the barracks. Neat and orderly. “...that is amazing.”
“That’s called discipline,” Becker muttered. “Anything less is unacceptable. If anyone falls out of line it is your responsibility to put them back in their place.”
“You mean, yell at them?” Vitale chewed his lip, hands wringing.
“Unless you know of a better way –of course. They are soldiers, they know better. As my assistant you are to demonstrate authority. Understand?”

CROSS ch.1 - No Mercy
It’s barely past sundown over the red cliffs of Aurora, and the only lights to see for miles on end come from a bar a little off the Black Road. It ain’t the kind of place you come to stay and socialize, and it doesn’t possess the room to allow such in the first place. It’s a come-and-go sort of place, something the owners are quite proud of in fact
Sitting in the middle of some empty lot of dirt, the building is small enough enough to get in a good short walk around without feeling the least bit troubled. It’s a tight-fitting establishment. One third of the bar is used to store the stock; another third to serve it; and the rest for drinking. On the outside from its wooden walls hand all sorts of junk covering from inch to inch. Every single item hung there was savanged off the Road, left by the patrons to add their own little signature whenever the come to drink. Car rims; busted/shot signs; bottles hung on strings, and dozens of spent cartridges and shells. How it got started, nobody knows - yet it keeps going on and on.
The inside is much cleaner though, giving a more professional appearance. Despite the tight space, there’s some respectability in how empty the walls are of the junk that litter the outside. The only features that really decorate the bar is a small radio, and a shelf full of old magazines. A small part of the building houses all the drinkards that come, enough to house and serve maybe 10 to 13 men at the most. They’re separated from the rest of the building thanks to a long bartender’s table stretching from wall to wall - cutting a large portion off away from the front door.
From behind the bartender, the owner of this dive cleans a glass for the fifth time. A bit of an aged man, with sags of skin and a chin built like a brick; his black hair is oiled more from work than anything fancy, and his bartending uniform hangs off what meat is left in his body. He cleans the glass more so out of a reflex, with nothing else to do except to wait. It’s boring so far, with servings come by a long time away from each other. Meanwhile nothing else plays on the radio; the song, “No Mercy” by an Old Earth band once called The Stranglers, plays once more. It was recently recovered and brought to a station, and in celebration has been playing on repeat throughout the day, yesterday, and days since.
The current patrons don’t do much to liven up the place. Three men lay sprawled about, either against the bar or on the floor.
One man is on his fourth glass, his eyes all glazed and tired enough they show past through the bushiness of his brow and beard.
The other two men, much younger and livelier, keep on laughing at each other about a joke they can’t quite remember telling.
Towards the other end of the bar sits another man - far away from either the bartender or his patrons, his body up against a wall. He sits by the bar, with one hand on a glass and another tapping onto the table to tune of the song playing on the radio. He smiles, not as much as the livelier of the bunch on the other side, but he has vastly more energy than the drunkard.
He was a giant of a man, hard to miss were he not in his lonesome. The man measured a high 6 feet, closing in on 7. He was tanned a light dirty red, with a body that was muscular, with arms thicker than a man’s neck and with a broad chest that could dwarf most others; the stranger’s hands could wrap another man’s, and he looked enough like a wrestler that he’d likely break it with a grip. He dressed fairly casually: blue jean pants, lightly dirtied with red sand; a worn white shirt; and a dark blue vest with cut, tattered sleeves. His boots were large and black, and his belt possessed a worn out buckle. Wrapped around his long blonde hair was a bright red bandana, neatly tied with a knot facing back. Lastly, across his face were a set of black-tinted goggles, barely concealing a relaxed set of eyes which had a nice green hue.
All the man does is tap his fingers to the song, with 6 empty glasses of beer neatly standing around. He nods his head to the radio’s tune, showing no sign of stopping.
When the song ends, it eventually repeats once more. Then once that song comes on again, the man starts to sing the lyrics.
“Every day you’re working like a slave-- Sweating buckets hoping that you get it right.” He casually muses, singing softly and completely off memory at this point. For a man of his size, his voice is more youthful and chipper than what most would expect.
“Will it be as tough tomorrow-- Have to wait and see-- Life shows no mercy…”
He takes another sip of his drink, sapping it dry before sliding it with the rest. He doesn’t say a word, but the message is clear for the bartender. Without any provocation, the owner of the bar quickly knocks the bottle cap off a new bottle of beer and slides the newly opened drink towards the stranger. It’s grabbed, and no time is wasted before that too is being drunk - only difference being that the bartender finally has something to say.
“Oi friend”, he begins, with a dry and low voice. “That be your 8th now. Ain’t ya uh… feeling it by now?”
The man in the red bandana shakes his head a bit, partially out of synch to the radio’s tune. He takes a swig, and not once does his movement lose its energy; he neither goes off the beat or show even an inch of a drunken sway.
The bartender continues, “Well, you mind switching up the channels then? Looks to me that they ain’t changing the tunes for awhile. Better we listen to something different every now and then, don’t you think?”
Once more the man shakes his head, though he is polite to speak this time around.
“Sorry, no can do.” He replies, calm and casual, “Gonna be listening to this while I’m here. Besides, it won’t be too long now. Give me about… two, maybe three more plays, I think I’ll be leaving around that time.”
“Bah!” The bartender mutters as he turns to his glass cleaning. ‘Doesn’t matter much anyhow’, he thinks to himself. So long as the man keeps paying for his drinks, he’s free to listen to the radio for as much as he wants. By now the song had gotten a bit annoying for the owner, maybe not as strongly for the other patrons, but it’s still better than having it be utterly silent.
Eventually this same song reaches its conclusion, and once more it repeats. No one says a word about it then. Most are too lazy or uncaring, meanwhile the bartender is content in getting his dues. Meanwhile the only guy really giving it a listen isn’t too interested in singing it from beginning to end. He continues to drink and drink, often times casting a glance towards the front door. Every moment he side-eyes the door, enough to make the bartender think. Still, the way he just casually waits the day doesn’t draw anything work getting suspicious over. For the time being, all the stranger does is sit, drink, wait, and listen to his tunes.
Soon enough the last repetition starts to end - getting in on its final chorus.
Right then a new patron comes walking through the door all of a sudden. It was a punk-looking fellow, with pale-white skin, bald on the head and with very little fat on his bones save for the tight musculature of his body. His chest was bare except for black leather jacket, left open to show off a set of tattoos blaring the sign and writing of the numbers “66”. Hung under his loose, dirty leggings was a pistol shoved barrel down his pants line - it appears custom-made, with a silver colored bodey and black trimmings cut into it. It gave a slight noticeable rattle as he moved, likely from his exaggerated motions.
He gives a thuggish advance towards the bar, immediately grabbing a seat and giving the table a strong smack against its surface. He shouts out, with a crude tone and a set of yellowed teeth,
“Hey yo bar’man! Gimme one ‘em black bottles in the back there! One with tha’ green label!” He shows a toothy, mouth-breathing scowl. Bottom lip hanging, his browless eyes lazily directed at the owner.
Greatly annoyed but calm, the bartender reaches for the bottle, all the while the punk gives off wet coughs and mutters of crude cussing. Short of simply handing it over, the owner instead grabs hold of the bottle and stops right before the new bar patron. It takes a moment for the punk to register what’s going on, blinking slowly at the owner. He leans close to the table, bringing his hand up as he groans, “Ya stupid or somethin’?”
A short pause of silence occurs between them both, with the bar owner casting a casual glare down at the punk. Meanwhile the punk gives a light, arrogant chuckle, getting nothing still. The situation escalates when the punk then brings his other hand over towards his gun, letting his fingers jokingly hover in place around the pistol’s grip. Still the bartender doesn’t flinch, having been through this same song and dance far too many times in his life.
Eventually the punk finally gets what’s going on, and so he brings his gun hand towards his pockets. After some rummaging about he produces some creds - bills proudly blaring the green, blue and gold colored Earth on front. They are dirty and worn out, but they suffice.
Slowly he brings the currency up over the bar, only to then lunge his hand forward and throw it all onto the floor behind the table. He lets off an obnoxiously sharp and breathy cackle, shooting a cocky grin all the while. Yet again the bartender doesn’t reach. Instead, the bartender takes the bottle and - with masterful action - pries the bottle cap off with a hard swing against the table before then slamming down onto the top. Bits of froth and dark-green liquid spray around, spraying onto the punk and his jacket.
The punk jumps back a bit, coughing harshly from catching the cackling in his throat from surprise. He shouts out some profanity as he shakes the bits of beer dribbling over his attire. His eyes shoot an angered glare at the owner, only to be met with a more intense, stonier stare in return. Outmatched, the punk slinks back into his seat and proceeds to take a drink, having already lost an 8th of its contents.
Everyone else in the bar had watched the entire exchange, though largely done nothing. The trio of drunkards awoke a bit, but had enough trust in the barkeep to go back to their usual business. The only man to really take notice of it all was the stranger in the red bandana, who was sporting a cheery smile upon seeing the punk. The stranger just kept looking right at that man, the smile of his coming off much brighter than he’s been this entire time. Then, to compound this change in his emotion, the song repeats once more on the radio.
The opening guitar comes in, and when it does so it perks the punk’s ears almost instantly. He doesn’t react more until about the song is about 10 seconds in, as the instrumentals pick up to a catching beat. The punk starts to bob his head slowly, nodding relatively faster by each passing second as the song proceeds. He smiles, almost genuinely in fact. 30 seconds in and his body has already begun to sway to tunes excitedly. Then, finally, the lyrics come up - and right then he matches up with them better than the stranger in the red bandana ever could after repeated listenings.
Loudly he sings, though still quite poorly,
“Every day you’re workin’ like a slave”
“Sweatin’ buckets hoping that ya’ get it right…”
“Will it be as tough tomorrow; have to wait and see.”
“Life shows no mercy!”
Then as if on queue the stranger rises from his seat, taking his half-drunken bottle with him. Slowly he walks, moving right behind the punk, all the while he girates his hips and shoulders to the song’s groove. He almost matches the newcomer’s enthusiasm, with both men seemingly having the time of their lives with this one song. All the while the bartender rolls his eyes at them both, as his hands keep to their own work.
By the time the stranger gets close, the two are in synch with each other’s singing.
“Every day your love is getting warmer.”
“Just look at her and love her did ya’ get it right.”
“Will she soothe your brow with kisses; only meant for thee…”
“She’ll show no mercy… she’ll show no mercy.”
The stranger slows down once he’s perfectly in place, standing right behind the punk. While the punk’s absorbed into the music, the stranger lifts his drink and takes a long swig - downing every last drop in one shot. Meanwhile the punk doesn’t notice one bit, as at that point he’s entirely too into the song to be aware of what’s happening. At this point he sings more proudly then, bellowing the lyrics louder than the radio itself. He sings, all while the stranger drinks one final drop.
“And when you hold her close to you!”
The last drop falls to the stranger’s tongue.
“Just when you’re feeling good it’s true!”
He inspects the glass, making sure it’s truly empty.
“Life shows no mercy!”
He raises it…
“Life shows no mercy!”
Higher up the air than he possibly can.
“LIFE SHOWS NO MERCY!”
His muscles tense up!
“LIFE SHOWS NO MERCYYYYY--”
CLASH! Glass shatters all around! Hundreds of pointed, twinkling shards rain across the bar, with some sticking into the punk’s head. Blood starts to drip from freshly cut wounds, with droplets sprinkling onto the ground from the impact. He recoils fiercely in pain, twisting his body around from every which way - his mind and mouth screaming to register where the attack came from. His arms flail wildly until they make contact with the nearest person, and right after he throws his body at them.
The stranger is taken a bit by surprise, but grabs at the bloodied man as best he could. The two slam into a wall opposite to the bar - the punk’s chair scraping onto the floor as it’s knocked aside. As the two fight, the punk develops enough of an awareness of the situation to grab and claw at his attacker’s face. Meanwhile the stranger tries to stop him, knocking his grabs from left to right. With his attempts showing no success, the punk tries to move one hand down - the pain going away enough for him to remember the gun down his pants. This puts the stranger into a panic, as he tries to stop the grab amid their fighting.
Right then the bar becomes a chaotic mess. The radio keeps loudly playing its music as the pair fight each other. From his station, the bartender takes notice and starts yelling for the two to stop. He screams aloud, all the while slapping a palm heavily against the bar surface. The once sleeping patrons all wake in unison - some start to hurriedly move away from the fight so as not to get caught in the conflict.
The two men wrestle each other, with the leaner punk being the more violent and crazed of them both. In one bad move, the stranger fails to catch a swing from all the arm flailing, as the punk puts a pointed grip against the man’s neck. He flinches, letting out a pained gasp as the punk’s crude, long nails dig into the stranger’s thick neck. In response, the stranger tries to pry the hand off as quickly as he can with one free hand - all while the other grips the punk’s wrist as he manages to finally grab the gun. They struggle and pull at one another, each man groaning from the intensity before, all of a sudden, the punk wedges his finger into the trigger and pulls.
BANG! A loud, piercing sound rings across the bar!
The bartender ducks before crawling away to the back. The other patrons get frightened by the shot, diving away and trying to find cover as best they could. The gun shot pierces into the floorboards by the stranger’s feet, shocking him enough to make him trip over himself.
He falls, bringing the punk down with him onto the hardwood floor. When they hit the ground, both of their grips let loose - and the two are let go from one another. The stranger coughs and quickly inspects his neck wounds, as small as they are. Meanwhile the punk crawls away and tries to get up; he slips onto the floor a couple times before only managing to sit up from the floor. The stranger hears a click and looks up, seeing the punk - laid against the floor, with a pistol ready to fire.
The punk cackles, with blood dribbling down over his face from his head wounds. His expression is maniacal, with his yellowed teeth shown clear in his grin. “FUCK YOU… YA PRICK!” He growls and spits, his maddened eyes glaring down at the stranger.
Without a second thought, the stranger reers his leg back and quickly gives a kick to the gun! He hits it right as the punk pulls the trigger.
It is forced downward!
BANG!
Blood splatters across the floor!
A shrill scream drowns out all other sound, as the punk is utterly red-faced from how much he’s crying out from the pain. He brings his hands down to his groin, shaking in pain as the blood seemed to have come from a fresh gunshot to the groin.
He keeps screaming, louder and louder, as the stranger stares in absolute shock from what just happened. Without hesitation, he goes for the punk’s bottle from the bar and, with a tremendous swing, slams it down upon the punk’s face. With one strong smack, the bottle shatters, cutting into the punk’s cheeks and brow - and with that he is knocked out, and the screaming stops.
The stranger pants with soft yet pained breathing. Everyone else looks traumatized, with all eyes on the stranger and the knocked out, bloodied punk across from him. The radio was still playing, with the song nearing its end. Slowly, the stranger get up off the ground to collect his wits. He moves away enough to reach for the radio so that he may finally turn it off.
Once the music stops, the stranger lets out a tremendous sigh of relief. However the calm doesn’t last long, as the bartender returns from his hideaway, bringing with him a shotgun pointed right at the stranger who started all this. His hands are shaky, his aim uneasy, but he is close enough to get a good shot if he did so.
“Alright friend…” He begins, as calmly as he could. The tension was obvious in the slight graveling of his voice. “Hands up, and tell me - right now - what the fuck was that all about.
The stranger with the red bandana doesn’t turn his head to look at the bartender, instead first doing as commanded. With a hand slowly raised up, the other moves towards his vest pocket to produce a folded up piece of paper. He very carefully moves up further from the ground, standing up as best he could so that he may walk. With a gentle turn of his body, he faces the bar owner - eye to eye, only made possible by the stranger bending down slightly to his level. With as straight a face he could pull, the stranger moves closer to the bar before laying the paper onto the surface and then sliding it with a light push of his fingers.
Finally, the stranger answers, “Just a job is all…”
Not wanting to take a risk, the owner gives a not to a nearby patron to reach over and read the paper while he keeps his aim onto the stranger. The most able-minded and awake of his guests takes the job of reading it aloud. His voice gives off how dull the patron was, but he gave enough of a clear pronunciation to get the message across.
“This uh…” He begins, giving each word some emphasis, “This doc-u-ment, declares the official all-ow-ence and agreements between the parties of the… United Re-pub-lic of Earth and the holder of the contract. Said holder is free, within the laws of the state, to pursue the bounty target of one… Sid Leibers, AKA ‘Sid Sixty-Six’. Wanted for 7 counts of murder, 2 counts of arson, and the destruction of a village storage depot with stock. Bounty is armed and e-xtrem-ley dangerous. Bringing the target alive to an off-ic-ia-ted bounty office will grant the holder…”
The reader takes a pause, double-checking the paper before resuming, “...will grant the holder a reward of 850 creds.”
Immediately the bar-owner snatches the paper, quickly stepping back so he may safely confirm it while keeping the gun at the ready. He gives it a twice-over before finally lowering his gun down. Right then the stranger moves over to check on the man now confirmed to be Sid, making sure he was still breathing. With the man alive but knocked out, the stranger hauls him up off the ground and over his shoulder, before collecting the gun by shoving it under his belt. As he gets up, the owner shouts aloud a question.
“No hold on, wait a minute. This here paper ain’t go no picture or description, so how the hell you this is your guy?”
The stranger with the red bandana reaches out for the contract, all the while he explains as calmly as he could.
“They gave me enough to work with: bald; thin; the tattoos were a big clue. I’ll admit, it really didn’t click until he started listening to the music. On my way over I checked the places where the attacks happened, and nearly everyone there said he was listening to that one song a lot. Sung it too. All I had to do was give a tip to the station to play it enough times, and wait him out at the nearest bar on his path. Then I just to see how reacted to the radio, and right there I knew it was the guy.”
With the answer provided, the bar owner hesitently returns the paper back to its owner. The man starts leaving, but not before the owner chimes in with a final note.
He speaks more calmly, all of a sudden, and says to the man, “Guess I outta owe ya, next time. Capturin’ a wanted man and all that. Just want to know though, if you don’t mind… what’re your name?”
A smile appears on the stranger’s face, as he looks back towards the owner. Then, proudly, he answers back,
“Jason. Jason Cross, sir.”
Pleased, the owner retrieved a piece of paper from under the bar and, with a pen, begins to write down the name. All the while he says, “J-A-S-O-N C-R-O-S-S… Yup, that’ll do it. Thank you very much.”
He then adds, “and now you’re banned.”
Jason’s smile shrinks almost instantly, and at that point he just turns away and starts heading out from the bad. As he’s walking hurriedly, he hears the bar owner yell out furiously, “and don’t let me catch you in this bar again, ya hear?! Next time, it’ll be YOUR fucking head I smash a glass over, ya damn jackass!”
No time is wasted as Jason rushes over to his car - a busted up, old rusted piece of junk that’s seen more than its fair share of time on the road. He opens the trunk and throws Sid inside before slamming it shut. Frustrated, he gets into the driver’s seat and slams his foot to the pedal, quickly rushing on over the dirt and towards the grand stretch that is the Black Road - and as well, leaving the bar for good.
On the drive Jason thinks to himself. ‘Shame, really. That place had the best drinks for miles - lots and lots of miles’. All Jason could do was drive, in the dark cold night along the Black Road.

Welcome to Oblivion--Ch. 2
Chapter 2
I woke up around ten the next morning, my entire body sore from packing, driving for five hours, and then unpacking. My nightstand bore the results from last night’s fast-food run—a Stryofoam cup half full of the remains of melted ice and a matching tray container with ketchup residue and a faint film of grease. But it was amazing at midnight and it was worth the morning churning gut feeling that I had. I could taste the aftereffects in the back of my throat as I rolled out of bed.
“She lives,” came a voice from the doorway. It popped open and a girl with black hair and a cool tan. She smiled as she tossed a couple duffle bags on the opposite bed. “I started moving in earlier, but I didn’t want to wake you up. I’m your roommate.”
My thoughts took a few minutes to catch up to what she said. I rubbed my hand over my hair, taking stock of exactly how much of a disaster it appeared to be. She thumped down on the empty bed and tucked her feet up beneath her. I let out a groan.
“Roommate. Yeah. Totally sorry that this is how we meet. I’m Addison. But most people call me Addy.” I put up my hand in a faint wave-wiggle sort of thing. “It’s nice to meet you.”
She gave me a warm, genuine smile and a little three-finger salute. “Sonya Deville. Want a donut?”
“Huh?”
She produced a square brown box and flipped open the top. Inside were half a dozen donuts that were as big as my palm and as thick as my wrist. Some were just plain glazed. Others had a perfect layer of chocolate topping. After a moment, Sonya held the box toward me. “Take one. Or two. Or half. I’m not picky. Just not all of them, because then I’ll knock you out.”
I couldn’t tell if she was serious or not, but decided the best thing to do was not risk it. I slid off the edge of the bed and crossed the room to pull out one of the chocolate-topped ones with the tips of my fingers. Sonya’s grin got bigger.
“Girl after my own heart,” she replied, grabbing one of the other chocolate ones. “Drew said you seemed pretty cool.”
I felt my eyes go wide as I nearly choked on the huge bite of donut I’d just taken. “Drew said what now?”
Sonya grinned as she quickly polished off her own donut, licking the icing from her fingers. “We had English literature together last semester. He’s a huge dork. It’s pretty cool that he got the RA spot on the guys’ floor, especially with football.”
Guys’ floor? The words rushed through my head, trying to put themselves together so that they made sense. It hit me fast—enough to distract me from the idea that a guy I met yesterday was talking about me to some girl I’d just met. “Duh. Right, co-ed dorm. Do we have an RA yet?”
The box of sweets ended up on her desk as she stood, starting to pull random things out of the bags she’d brought in. “Yeah. She’s a senior. Charlotte Flair. Can’t say I’m a big fan. She’s… well, I’ll let you form your own opinion.”
Well that sounded ominous.
***
The first shower in a shared bathroom was interesting. At least it was like a gym shower—with a door that closed off a small changing area and then the shower itself. The water was hot and never seemed to run out, so that was good. After I got cleaned up, I pulled on some of my more presentable comfy clothes and decided to take a trip around campus to figure out where all the buildings were. Finding shortcuts early would save a lot of embarrassment for the next morning.
Before I left, Sonya tossed me a stainless-steel water bottle. “Stay hydrated. Bring it back. That’s my good luck bottle.”
I nodded, slightly confused, and hooked my finger through the loop that connected the cap to the bottle itself. There was a fountain in the lobby of the building by the stairs. It was only when I was filling it up at the machine that I realized that it had a pride flag on the side.
I could see it, I mused, thinking about my new roommate. But I figured she’d tell me if she wanted to. Or maybe there was nothing to tell. Allies were a thing too.
There was a small gathering of people over in the lounge area and even more milling about near the elevator. Upperclassmen were moving in, bringing with them fewer bags and boxes than myself and my fellow wide-eyed freshmen. The doors kept opening and closing, people coming in with a new load of stuff.
“Hey, it’s Call me Addie.” I followed the sound of the gruff voice to find a familiar figure in a purple and gold jersey. Roman grinned at me, his dark eyes crinkling, as he carried in a couple boxes. They were marked for a room on the fourth floor. “Heard you popped down to Gino’s last night.”
“How’d you… Drew.” I was suddenly a little weirded out by how he was talking about me to other people.
As if he could sense my rising discomfort, his smile softened a little. “Hey, you don’t have to worry about him. Really. Guy has a photographic memory or something like that. He remembers everything. But if it makes you feel better, if he gives you trouble let me know. I’ll take care of him.”
His voice sounded so genuine that I just nodded in thanks. “Hey, what’s the best way to get to the main campus from this building?”
Roman was quick with his response. “Follow the sidewalk until it forks out, then go left. That takes you to the academic buildings. If you take a left, you can get to the student union with the bookstore, the cafeteria, and the food court.”
I felt a smile growing on my face. “Between you and Drew… you guys are great guides.”
“Drew and Corbin are on the fourth floor in this building. If you need anything, you can find them in 419.”
Grinning, I waved as I slipped out the front of the building. The sun was bright overhead, but it wasn’t as hot as it would have been at home. The rolling mountains seemed to corral the wind and keep it blowing in cool breezes. I wouldn’t want to be out in this all day, but it wouldn’t be too bad for a quick tour of the campus.
***
It took me about 45 minutes to go over the entire campus. The classroom buildings were close enough to one another that I didn’t have to worry much about being late if I had classes that were back-to-back. The student union was big and airy—three floors of everything a college student could need. The bookstore took up one whole corner of the first and second floors. Half of the second was a huge cafeteria. A mini food court spread out on the main floor along with a rec room with tables for pool, ping-pong, and foosball. The top floor was study rooms and offices for student groups. Down the hill from the student union was the health center, where there was a gym and a pool.
I grabbed a sandwich from one of the places in the food court and set myself up in a shaded spot in the yard in front of the dorm. It was nice to relax for a little while before thinking about tomorrow. College was a scary sort of thing. God only knew how I was going to get through it.
“Hey,” Roman said, dropping down into the grass beside me. His black hair was pulled into a tight, messy knot on the back of his head. There was color in his cheeks and the faint musk of sweat. “I was starting to think you got lost.”
I snatched up my napkin, holding it over my face as I finished chewing an obscenely large bite of food. He grinned as I bunched up the paper in my hand. “So, you think I’m helpless?”
“That’s not what I said,” he replied, looking a little chagrinned.
“I know. I’m just teasing.” Tucking my trash back into the bag, I leaned back on my elbows. “Dunno why, but it seems like you’re my first friend at college, Roman Reigns.”
He nodded, turning so he was facing me. He pulled up one leg, draping his arm across his knee. “I guess I’m okay with that, Call me Addy.”
I rolled my eyes. “That’s such a dad joke kind of thing. You get that right?”
“But it’s funny. You want to laugh. I can see it in your eyes.”
“The day I laugh at that will be the day you catch me at a football game for fun,” I retorted.
Roman looked deeply hurt. “Everybody comes to football games! Especially the homecoming game in October. The whole campus shuts down.”
I shrugged. “I was never a sports fan. Pissed my dad off because I was a cheerleader for a while before I tore my ACL. I don’t know how many times he asked me how can you not understand football, Addy… you’ve been to every game since you were in fifth grade.”
“Like a cheerleader or a cheerleader?” He asked it with sincerity, the way he emphasized the second time it was clear that he meant those cheerleaders who competed in tournaments and won national championships three years in a row. You know, the Bring It On types.
“Option number two,” I replied, straightening out my legs, crossing them at the ankles. If I looked hard enough, I could see the scar from the surgery I’d had in the middle of my senior season.
“That explains it then. Too busy worrying about routines and basket tosses to watch the game and learn.” Roman shook his head dramatically. He grinned, one corner of his mouth turning up. “Your squad any good?”
“Ever heard of Lynwood High?”
His eyes got wide. “As in three-time consecutive national champions Lynwood High? The Lynwood High that had never finished lower than the top three in the last ten years? That Lynwood High?”
I nodded, feeling slightly smug.
“Damn,” he said, looking impressed. “Didn’t they lose the title this year?”
“Yep. And one of their top players lost an athletic scholarship to Georgia Tech.”
Realization rushed over his features. “Well, that’s shit.”
I sat up, pulling up a leg and resting my chin on my knee. “Eh. Grand Mountain was my second choice. And I have a roommate who seems to magic donuts out of nowhere. So there’s that.”
At that, Roman let out a laugh that seemed to rumble from his chest. His grin returned looking brighter and making his eyes crinkle adorably. “You got Sonya Deville?”
“Is that a bad thing?”
“God, no. She’s awesome. She was in my dorm last year. We found boxes of donuts out in the lobby every morning. Before away games, she’d bring dozens of them to the fieldhouse. I don’t know where she gets them, but they’re the best fucking things in the world.”
I giggled, imagining Roman and Drew scarfing down boxes of iced donuts on the bus—their coach yelling at them to stop it with the sweets. “You really like donuts, huh?”
“The ones Sonya gets. Hell yeah.”
His smile was something that just made me want to smile along with him. It was infectious. Having him as a friend would be pretty awesome.
“Oh my God,” Roman said, his face contorting with displeasure. “I’m ripe. Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I’m used to stinking football players.”
It was his turn to roll his eyes. “Well, I’m going to hit the showers. I’ll see you around, Addy.”
“See you, Roman.”
By the time I made it back to my room, Sonya had somehow procured another box of donuts—this time with strawberry filling and sprinkles on top. I sat her water bottle on her desk and snatched one of the sweets before flinging myself onto my bed.
“Mind if I watch TV?” I asked Sonya, who was stretched out on her bed reading a book. When she shook her head, I dug around in the blankets for the remote and turned it on, searching through the channels until I found my favorite guilty pleasure show.
As soon as it started, Sonya perked up. “Shit, I love this show.” Her book ended up on the floor as she curled up on her own bed to watch.
Between Roman and Sonya… maybe college wouldn’t be so bad after all.

MEANT FOR HER CHEST , but got the face ! blood spews from zara wound , in result covering helle's hand . zara steps back harshly knife dropping as the impact made her hit against the wall of the bathing room.
Zara used the sleeve of her nursing uniform to wipe at the blood going down her face . she looked at helle slowly , anger filling her eyes . a growl leaving her lips as helle giggled . helle stepped forward kicking the knife out of reach and out of sight .
❝ I think there's been a MISUNDERSTANDING here ! ❞ helle giggles and points her shiv towards zara's face . zara's blood still dripping down her hand and in result down her arm . ❝ the joker family ? - we run GOTHAM NOW. we've establish- ❞
❝ - YEAH YEAH , i've heard . ❞ she snapped , interrupting helle . she looked at her with a scowl , but a smile formed upon zara's lip . ❝ i've had your guys' little message to gotham ON LOOP ! ❞ she yelled throwing herself at helle , landing on top of her and grabbing her by her hair . her other hand holding down the wrist of the hand that held the shiv . ❝ I just LOVEthe part where JACK NAPIER spends the rest of his days in this MISERABLE CITYwith a bunch of NOBODIES !❞ it was obvious she was getting angrier and angrier with each statement she said .
It finally clicked in helle's head that her father and this woman once knew each other once upon a time. she struggled against the woman's grip . there was one thing helle lacked . and that was physical strength. Her free hand reaches up and grabs a fistfull of the woman's hair .
Zara didn't let that act phase her , she let loose a laugh . she pulled helle's head up , still holding a firm grip on the girl's hair . ❝ that's right ! I've heard the story over and over again ! ❞ she bashed the back of helle's head into the tiled floor . helle giving a shriek of pain , and then laughter of her own. . ❝ GEE ! it's swell to finally meet HISother friends ! ❞ she bashed helle's head once more against the cold tiles . hearing a crack as the tile broke underneath helle's skull.
ADRENALINE PUMPING. helle gave a harsh shove with her free hand . effectively shoving zara off her who fell back onto the tile with a thud she gave a giggle in result . . helle got up quickly and threw her shiv at the ground . blood covered the tiles where helle's head once was . a dull ache helle felt , but not fully due to her sudden adrenaline rush . though her vision blurred slightly , her body swayed ever so ! black spots clouded her vision - BUT A NAPIER NEVER GIVES IN !
Zara noticed the way helle was beginning to fade , and she would absolutely use it to her advantage !she stood up and stalked towards her , watching helle bare her teeth like an animal , but visibly too weak and probably seeing doubles too do anything about it . zara's hand grabbed helle's cheek . ❝ what did he SAYabout me ? what did he say ? ❞ pretending to be tender , a sad look clouded zara's vision . hopeful that jack talked about her . that maybe even after all these yearshe still talked about her. Yet , at helle's confused look anger clouded her thoughts and eyes once more . ❝ WHAT DID HE DO WITHOUT ME ? , what did he do ?! ❞ she yelled in helle's face , anger and hurt lacing zara's voice . she pulled helle to her chest , feeling the girl give a weak struggle as she backed towards THE TUB. a hand reached up and stroked helle's hair , helle's fists weakly hitting at zara's sides . but helle's fight was dwindling . HER DRIVE was failing .
Finally zara shoved helle onto the ground in front of the tub , helle gasping for air as she was beginning to find it hard to breathe ! helle reached a hand up to the back of her head , bringing it down she looked at her once pale hand to find it covered in her own blood . she looked up at zara , as zara dropped down to her knees beside helle . helle brought her hand up to push zara away , but zara grabbed her hand and squeezed it tightly . her other hand grabbing the hair connected to the back of helle's head and pulling it back . bringing her head back and hitting it against the tub . she let go and stopped the water . the tub overflowing by the time she stopped it. The heat of the water leaving steam in the air . she rolled her eyes as helle now laid on her side holding the front of her head letting out little strained giggles . she pulled helle up by her hair back onto her knees and then let go grabbing her chin . making helle look at her. The amused , yet terrified look in helle's eyes almost made zara stop . ALMOST .
❝ what did he play without me ? what did he play ?❞ zara asked in a pleading voice . a mess of her raven hair in her face . eyes gaining tears that she wouldn't shed . when helle didn't answer she grabbed helle by the hair once more holding blood stained blonde curls in a death grip . ❝ DID HE THINK AFTER ALL THIS TIME I WOULDN'T FIND OUT ABOUT YOU ?! ❞ helle's manic laughter ran out , helle had a feeling what was gonna happen next . all she could do was LAUGHabout it , LAUGHat her !
Anger filled zara's gut as she used her entire strength to shove helle's head and almost her entire top half of her body into the scalding water . zara's arms also in that hot water , which made her scream but she wouldn't let go . she screamed over helle's scream as she kept the young girl under the hot water . she didn't stop not until the girl's screaming and struggles finally let up . when HELLE QUINN - NAPIER WAS NO MORE . zara let go looking over quickly as the bathing room door swung shut , the sound of running heard .
❝ that's right i've heard the story over and over again - gee , it's swell to finally meet his other friends . ❞ she said in a bland voice , getting up and watching as helle's lifeless form landed on the floor of the bathing room . she walked over to where helle threw her shiv and picked it up .
HUFFING & PUFFING as he finally made it back to his parents . jack jr gave a look . his mind was reeling & in peril . his sister …. She was dead . joker gave a look at jack jr when he arrived without his sister next to him . joker was growing annoyed by the second as that NOBODY was terrorizing HIS ASYLUM &NOW HIS THINGS .
❝ she killed her , she killed helle . ❞ jack jr said , a far off look in his eyes . he couldn't let it upset him . not now at least . not when some looney toon bitch was trying to take her hand at ruining their NEW ARKHAM . harley gave a sudden wail , high pitch in nature . harley's only baby girl was now dead , and her and joker didn't DO ANYTHING TO PROTECT HER . guilt wracked at her bones . she was a terrible mother ! but all harley could do now was try her BEST TO PROTECT HER SON.
Harley wiped her eyes . ❝ - it really is her . ❞ harley whispered and shook her head , pulling her arm from the joker's grip . she ran a hand through her hair slowly .
Zara was agile , she managed to catch up to them all while humming the same tune from before the blade of helle's shiv scraping against the wall. yet , as she heard harley's words she paused her walking and humming . remaining hidden around the corner . she tilted her head . her arms still red from the scalding water , but the bleeding of her cheek had come to a stop ; however blood still stained down her cheek and chin and onto her nurses uniform .
Joker rolled his eyes licking his lips slowly . his hand snatching harley's arm once more . if they needed to get out of here , he was LEAVING with her . he didn't care about the other two like harley did . harleen was still his only interest . she was new . ❝ she isn't uh - serious. ❞ joker licked his lips and tilted his head . ❝ she's just a DOLLplaying dress - up , who can't get over the past . ❞ he shrugged and narrowed his eyes . ❝ and you , probably led her right to us , junior . ❞
Zara gave a quiet growl , tilting her head . her fingers tightening around helle's shiv . SHE WAS THE ONE PLAYING DRESS UP ?! has he looked in the mirror lately ?! she bit her lip to contain herself .
❝ you guys know her ? WHO IS SHE ? ❞ jack snapped . at the sound of someone punching the wall , jack jr looked behind him . his eyes narrowed . he looked at his father and gave a nod . joker started heading off to harleen's office , dragging harley with him . harley gave a terrified look back at jack jr . hand held out to him as if begging him to grab onto her . jack gave an apologetic look and turned away from her .
Jack tilted his head as zara came out of hiding . tears in her eyes . JACK REALLY DID NEVER TALK ABOUT HER . however , she paused upon looking at jack junior closely . rage still building a fire into her gut . he looked just like the boy she used to know !
As she stepped closer humming that tune , thoughts of what she was going to do with this lousy little JACK NAPIER COPY & PASTE ! - she stopped . getting closer made tears spring in her eyes . that look in the boys eyes , it looked just like HIS. just like his - flashes of jack napier and jack jr kept flashing between both in front of her . she COULDN'T DISTINGUISH WHO HE WAS !jack napier or jack jr ?! she grabbed the sides of her head .
Until finally all she could see she was JACK NAPIER ! and she was going to give that traitorous BITCH a piece of her mind !
❝ who am I ? WHO AM I ?! what are you even saying? ❞ she screamed at him . she pointed a finger at him tears welling up in her eyes , and FALLING . jack jr took a step back as she came closer with the shiv still in her hand . finally , jack jr's back hit the stone of the wall . ❝ I'm the LOSERof the game you didn't know you were PLAYING ! ❞ she pointed the shiv at him , but she gave pause . he was looking RIGHT AT HER PAST ! right at her enemy but she was frozen .
Jack jr furrowed his brows and tilted his head , and then his eyes went blank . a smirk coming to his features . she was addressing him as if he were his father . . . she thought he was jack napier . he could use that to his advantage . he took a step forward and held his hands up . ❝ doll , didja' miss me? ❞ jack jr spoke gently . ❝ how about we put this behind us , yeah ? ❞ he nodded
❝ no ! let's PLAY another game ! this time I GET TO WIN !❞ she swung at him with the shiv , jack jr dodged jumping back once again hitting the wall . a pained expression upon zara's face as she watched JACK. could there really be another chance for them ?! she lowered her weapon . she tilted her head. Slowly she looked at the smirk on jack's face and looked back up .
❝ let's play like old times …. ❞ jack jr paused his words , as he saw the look on her face . she looked like she was CRACKING ! ❝ come on , sweetie. lets get out of here . ❞he stepped forward again , once more . until he grabbed her pulling her into his chest . zara kept her arms at her sides , her left eye gave a twitch . JACK NAPIER never called her sweetie . she looked up at him , eyes WIDE .
Finally , that GOOD FANTASY turned into A TERRIBLE REALITY. jack napier's face disappeared and was REPLACED WITH JACK JR . teeth barred like a wild animal ! she STABBED HIM with the shiv , deep into his side , blood soaking her hands as she yanked it out . jack jr gave a groan and took a step back grabbing his side and looking at her with a heated look . he brought a hand back to slap her but she grabbed his hand as it went to go down on her , twisting it roughly !
❝ LIVES ON THE LINE ! ❞ she stabbed him in the stomach and falling back with him as the tall boy fell . he looked up at her with wide TERRIFIED EYES . just like his sister. ❝ WINNER TAKES ALL ! ❞ she ripped the blade out and stabbed him in the neck ripping it out , and then began to repeatedly STAB HIM. ❝ READY OR NOT , LETS BEGIN ! ❞
CHEST , NECK , STOMACH & HEAD ! and then jack jr was NO MORE. his eyes staring off into oblivion . she left the shiv in his head as she rolled off him . she looked at her hands and arms , covered in blood from jack jr and blisters from the burns of that scalding water from helle . the games almost finished . she sat up and reached into her boot pulling out the gun . time to finish the game .
❝ gee , it's swell to finally beat his other friends . ❞ she said with a smirk . looking at jack jr and reaching a hand over . running her hand over his cheek . she slowly reached to his eyes and closed the lids . she turned her head to look towards harleen's office . she pulled herself up and began humming , cocking her gun roughly .
A skip to her step once more , humming all the while . though , her skips weakened as she reached the door . the fire emergency box catching her eyes as she reached harleen's door . more importantly what caught her eye was the small handheld axe inside it .
Harley sat upon her desk , facing the door . she was waiting for jack jr . she wouldn't allow joker or herself to escape through the window without him . and the only reason she believed joker allowed them to do so was because she threatened never to forgive him for this .
❝ what did ya' do to her ? ❞ harley snapped looking back at joker with a snarl . ❝ someone who runs away from home , doesn't just come back ta' KILL YA' FAMILY ,MISTA J !❞ harley yelled . joker gave a look at her , growing angry at harley for talking to him the way she was . he couldn't have his girl getting ballsy . however , today he'd give her the benefit of the doubt . after all , her daughter just died and probably their son too .
❝ remember , harleen ? when I was tellin' ya' about my first kill ? ❞ joker licked his lips . he cocked his head to the side . eyebrows shooting up , waiting a moment for his sweet little clueless quinzel to connect the dots . when she did he gave a nod . ❝ guess she - ah , wasn't really it . ❞ he shrugged . harley shot up and slapped him in the chest .
❝ she was our friend ! ❞ she said in horror . but harley knew the truth . when harley came around - zara use to get jealous . she'd grow quiet , use to give her the stink eye . she knew zara LOVED JACK NAPIER. however , she stayed . SHE DROVE THEM APART , like a wedge in between an unbreakable bond . joker shoved her back onto the ground . a laugh leaving his lips .
❝ ah, no puddin' she was my friend . she hated you. ❞ he pointed at her . ❝ so , I uh - guess you could say this is all because of YOU. ❞ joker smiled , teeth barring in that way of his . as if acting like he hated being right .
Harley let out a shutter of a breath . he was right . this was all her fault . if only she had stayed away . tears left her eyes and she brought her hands to her face covering her eyes as she cried on the ground . bringing her knees to her chest . joker smirked to himself , time to swoop in like a hero and make her rememberwhy she loves him so much . he went to bend down - but paused -
❝ baby , - ❞ harley started and then flinched .
CRASH ! an axe blade sticks out of the door . and then gets pulled out . a thin arm sticking through the hole and reaching for the door handle . turning the lock and then the arm disappeared .
Harley stood up slowly , looking at the door . she looked at the joker with a sad look . grabbing his hands . ❝ when you're tired from the fight , when you're losing your mind - ❞ harley gave a pause a scared smile as the door to her office opened . ❝ I'm gonna be right by your side , no matter what . ❞ joker gave a look , confused by her sudden display of emotion . and then it dawned on him . what she was ready to do for him . die forhim . he raised a brow at her .
Zara stepped inside . axe in one hand , gun in her pocket . she was having too much fun to use that gun. However , a scowl falls on her as she sees this tender moment between jack napier and harleen quinzel . nothins' changed from highschool . shoved aside and left to ROT. she raised the axe over head with both hands .
As harley left joker's side and turned to face her , zara gave a blank stare . as the axe she had in her hands she threw as hard as she could . the axe landing smack between harley's eyes . the blonde jester fell to her knees and landed face first onto the ground . harley wasn't worth zara's effort . SHE HAD TO SAVE WHAT SHE HAD LEFT FOR HIM.
That's when it clicked in joker's head , harley wasn't ready to die for him . harley was ready to die to be with her children . annoyance flickered in his eyes as he looked at zara .
A sudden smirk filled the joker's features . ❝ hi , zee . ❞ he smacks his lips . ❝ how was uh - MEETING MYOTHER FRIENDS ?! ❞ he raised his eyebrows , suddenly cracking up . doubling over from laughing so hard .
Zara gave a smirk , ❝ BEATING your other friends you mean, jack . ❞ she growled at him. Joker laughed even harder making him stand up once more he looked at her hands falling to his hips. He stepped toward her , inclining his head down at her .
❝ tell me , pun'kin ? ❞ the joker clicked his tongue looking up at the wall of the office . looking at the jester painting . the one he painted for harleen . now how did that get there , harley never got that picture . he destroyed it . he smirked some and looked at zara . ❝ - didn't this seem a little too easy ? almost like it wasn't - REAL ?! ❞ he was dangerously close to her now . grabbing her shoulders and squeezing them .
Zara stood stock still , eyes wide and then she looked at her hands . hands and arms clean of any blood , looking at the full size body mirror in harleen's office . there was no joker in it . she looked at joker , to make sure he was there . HE WAS ! she looked back at the mirror . it was just her , standing in harleen's office . no dead harley , no joker ❝ no - NO! ❞ zara yelled at the reflection and then looked at Joker arms suddenly shooting up and hands wrapping around his neck . pushing him until he was against the wall. ❝ NO , I WIN ! I FINALLY WIN ! ❞ tears she didn't know she was shedding fell down her face in pools . a sob racking her body as she continued to choke him.
Joker laughed and laughed whilst zara choked him , not putting up a fight . only holding her arms as she choked him . until finally laughter tuned into trying gasps for air . though that smile still stuck on his face as blood covered fingernails dug into her forearms . and then joker sank to the floor , zara going with him , kneeling in front of him as she watched the light leave his eyes . and joker was no more . she slowly brought her hands away , her tears still falling from her eyes . her hands go to her mouth as she releases a sob .
Slowly gets on her hands and knees , looking at the carpet taking deep breaths . she met joker's lifeless eyes , she looked over his slumped body . hands at his sides . she took a deep harsh breathe , wiping her hand over her tear stricken face . she crawled between his legs , turning and sitting between them . he was still warm . with a shakey hand , she reached down and took his lifeless hand in hers wrapping his arm around his chest . ❝ I finally won, aren't'chya' proud of me ? ❞ she leaned against him . letting a laugh leave her as she squeezed his arm against her . her other hand reached into her pocket . pulling out her gun . she pressed the barrel against her temple .
Without joker , she didn't have a reason to keep on living . she gave a sharp breath in . ❝ it really was swell , meeting your other friends jack . who knows - maybe they could have been mine too . ❞
BANG .
JOAN FERGUSON , the new warden of arkham asylum gave a raised eyebrow look at the girl strapped to the bed . a lifeless look in the woman's eyes as she stared at the young woman whispering to herself ❛ I won … I won ❜ . what could possibly be going on in this girl's head .
Ferguson gave a sigh . ❝ who is this ? and what happened ? ❞ she asked in a stern voice to the nurse . the nurse gave a small scared look . the nurse looked down at the chart , so she wouldn't have to look at her new warden . ❝ well , out with it . ❞ ferguson snapped .
❝ her name's zara wren , ❞ the nurse started . ❝ harley quinn states she found her trying to kill helle quinn in the bathing room . her and helle then bashed her head into the tub and tried to drown her in hot water . the joker and jack were there rooting it on . ❞ the nurse sighed . ❝ she then had a meltdown in medical & tried to kill the doctor , and myself . we had to sedate her . ❞ the nurse finished . ferguson gave a hum in response .
A guard cleared his throat . ❝ what should we do with her? Throw her into max? ❞ he asked with a cross of his arms . ferguson's eyes darted towards him . she shook her head. ❝ no , no we'll have her thrown back into the general population once she comes off the sedative . ❞ ferguson nodded to herself . watching the nurse and guard nod and walk off . ferguson smirked to herself . reaching into her pockets she pulled out leather black gloves , putting them on herself she places two fingers on zara's cheek , slowly bringing them under her chin and making zara look up at her . a soft look , yet her ' emotions ' didn't quite reach her eyes .
❝ I have other plans for you , miss wren . you will win ❞
THE END.

Can we have a fanfic in which Ben OD’s? I think that’s how he died (“when you’re dead there’s no where to go, no where to change) and I think the monsters were giving him physical/mental pain. So klaus gave him something. Ben got depressed because they didn’t work, so he took more. Nobody knew, Reg gave him antidepressants, he OD’d, nobody knew about his addiction but Klaus, the siblings all moved out because they couldn’t stand to be in the same house as Regetable, the man who killed Ben.
holy shit, anon! Ben’s death makes me so sad, are you trying to make me cry? But anyway, I hope you like this one1
*
This is bad, Klaus thinks, watching Ben pop off the cap of the orange bottle and swallow three white pills dry.
When you start taking them dry, you know it’s bad.
“You were supposed to only take one, you know,” he says, frowning down at his hands because it’s better than seeing Ben reenact Klaus’ early teen years.
They’re seventeen now. Klaus is supposed to be the fucked up one, not Ben.
Ben is supposed to be better than Klaus, to be above this shit.
“And they were supposed to make me not feel like shit,” Ben snaps, closing the drawer with more force than necessary and flopping down on the bed. His face is starting to relax, slow and syrupy in a way that is painfully familiar to Klaus and sends his stomach into painful knots.
He’s got a bad feeling about this.
“Ben,” he begins. What’s he supposed to say? He doesn’t exactly have the moral high ground here. “Have you– is it that bad?”
A thundercloud storms over Ben’s face, alien and foreign, but settling uncomfortably easily. “I don’t know, Klaus,” he shoots back, icily and distantly, “there are literal monsters trying to break out of my skin every second of every day. I can feel them writhing inside, pushing and lashing out. So you tell me, is it that bad?”
This is bad, Klaus thinks again but says nothing for the rest of the night.
*
Luther is being an asshole again but what else is new?
Well, the fourth and fifth pill on Ben’s hand is probably an escalation, but hey, Klaus is floating nicely in a cloud of something colorful and sweet he had chase with Dad’s vodka, so it’s kinda hard to worry about anything right now.
He smiles, lazy and absent, and watches with a distant sort of gaze as Ben self-medicates for the second time this afternoon. Can he blame him though? Luther’s being an asshole, that calls for some pretty happy pills, right?
It’s all good, though, it’s all fine.
*
Klaus eyes the new orange bottle in Ben’s nightstand.
Its the real deal, like, from a pharmacy and shit. There was a prescription and everything, and Klaus hopes they’ll make Ben look less like he’s a ghost haunting this house, wandering the halls with an empty look on his eyes.
It’s been a while since his eyes have looked anywhere near alive and Klaus doesn’t like looking too much into them. Sometimes, especially in the bad trips, he has nightmares that he peers into them and he can see the tentacles flopping around, trying to break out of Ben like a hatching egg, like that movie with the aliens and the spaceship.
He also wonders if he should have told their father about Ben’s less legitimate pills, the ones he gets from Klaus’ dealer. That’s– that’s the kind of thing doctors should know before prescribing shit, isn’t it?
But Ben had sworn him into secrecy and he’s right, Klaus is one to talk, it’s his dealer, after all.
The know of worry stays there, clawing at his stomach, even as he tells himself it’ll be fine.
Ben will be fine.
Hey, they’re the good guys, they’re superheroes, right?
And heroes never die, they’re always fine.
*
The rain is falling steadily and Mom’s shoes are splattered with mud, and so is Allison’s and Vanya’s. Allison isn’t complaining, though. How weird is that?
She’s supposed to be throwing a fit and demanding to go home, that’s her MO.
Can they? Go home already, that is.
Dreadfully depressing, this place. It’s bringing Klaus’ high down and that’s– that’s no good. Klaus’ gotta stay high, up, up, up very far from here, from all of this shit.
Funerals have never been his thing, don’t let the aesthetic fool you.
“Klaus,” Allison says, laying a hand on his arm. She eyes his cigarette with interest, sniffing, and she has to know it’s weed. Everyone here does, he’s sure. They just don’t care, not today. “It’s– it’s going to be–”
She can’t finish the sentence, so she trails off instead, shrugging awkwardly in the end. They all know it’s not gonna be okay. Ben’s dead. He overdosed like they all though Klaus was gonna a long time ago and how unfair is that? Fuck you, Ben, he scowls, taking a drag in spite, that was gonna be me.
He blows smoke in the air and it hangs heavy, dissipating quickly in the rain; he passes the joint to Allison, watches her smoke without flinching.
“Too fucked up for me,” he says, sticking his hands in his pockets and makes a point not to hear the priest talking incessantly in front of the gap in the dirt. It’s ridiculous, really, to preach about gods and angels to the bunch of kids with superpowers. Klaus can literally see ghosts, asshole, he knows hell is very much real. Heaven, though, jury’s still up on that one.
“I can’t do this,” Allison says between a drag and the other, and she sounds bitter enough that the grass under their feet curls into dead yellow shades even without her catchphrase. “I’m out. I’m leaving first thing tomorrow.”
“Good for you,” Klaus mutters, but it’s not bad. He means that, in fact. They should all leave this place before it kills them too. “Good riddance to this shit.”
“You should come with,” she offers, passing him back the cigarette, and Klaus sighs, inhaling the smoke and letting it grow stale on his lungs before letting it out. “We could find a place in LA.”
“Thanks, but no thanks,” he shakes his head. Allison doesn’t know what she’s saying, that’s a stupid idea. She’s meant for the spotlight, Hollywood and all that crap. There’s a reason she’s going for LA and not whatever the hell city out there. “I’ve got my own thing going.”
“Klaus– fine. Just. I don’t want to attend another funeral, okay?”
“Don’t worry, sister dearest,” he smiles, but it’s not a nice smile, he knows, “everything’s going to be alright.”
The frown on her face doesn’t let up, stays put as Diego and Luther lower the casket down six feet under the earth and their father throws the first handful of dirt. Klaus snorts. That was a good pony show, good ol’ Reggie truly has an eye for the showbiz.
Diego, though, looks angrier than usual. Klaus gives him another week before he packs his bags too.
That being said, he believes this is his cue.
He feels Allison’s eyes on him all the while he walks out of the cemetery, putting out his cigarette in a nearby grave. So long, fuckers, he shouts in his head as he crosses the iron gates.
Though, when he pauses to cross the street, between a car and the next, Klaus could swear he saw Ben watching him from the other side of the road.

[The Keihancarl Diaries: December 14, 2019]
Yup, I'm all set for a not-so-grand return to WordPress.com as I'll reopen my main blog very soon. In the meantime, the BGC-McKinley Hill trip comes first.
I've been considering wearing the knitted blazer that I've worn back in 2017, on a trip down south, but I decided on the black fleece coat instead. Aside from that, I decided to wear my red anime shirt and the AoT gloves that I haven’t worn since a couple of years ago. Yup, a red and black outfit that’s suitable for the holiday season.
At this time of the year, I'm expecting heavy traffic so I really need to leave the house early. After all, I really hate getting stressed thinking about wasting an hour or two on weekend traffic. But then again, I didn't have to rush. Anyway, traffic is light in most parts of Commonwealth Avenue and I managed to get to MRT North Avenue Station in less than an hour. I also managed to get inside the MRT just as it was about to leave the station. Of course, I didn’t forget to load up my Beep card first.
The MRT runs a little slower than usual since the rails are undergoing replacement. I had a hard time moving inside the jam-packed train, I can't even reach my bag for my handkerchief to wipe my sweat or my phone to take pictures. The train somehow decongested by the time it reached MRT Shaw Boulevard Station.
I got off at MRT Guadalupe Station and immediately head to the jeepney terminal beside the Guadalupe Commercial Center. I then took an e-jeepney to McKinley Hill, my first stop for this trip.
Getting off the e-jeepney, I saw a float being repainted. I believe this is one of the floats used in the Christmas parade at McKinley Hill.
Reaching there, I only checked a couple of shops and took numerous photos and selfies.
There were Venetian mimes (just figured that one out) inside the mall area. And yes, there were some Doraemon figures on the other side of the canal, as well as the mall lobby.
I then had an Xtra Long Chicken Sandwich at Burger King for lunch, which should be enough to keep me fueled for the next few hours.
I then took a jeepney to SM Aura but I got off a short distance away at the mall itself. I checked a few shops there, including a newly-opened Fully Booked branch located at the former Astroplus area. I also passed by ErgoHome at the third level and I'm still amazed at the space-saving storage solutions, especially the tatami one.
Moving on, it spotted a crowd of people at a sporting brand in the fourth level. Could it be the boxing legend/senator who is said to be the global ambassador for the sporting brand? I couldn’t even take a good look from where I’m standing.
And finally, I check the Skypark area and it looks like there are some circular swings installed in the landscaped area. I believe the swings are supposed to lit up at night, or so I thought.
And yeah, the Christmas tree at the upper ground level looks incredible. As well as the holiday decors at the mall, which resembles a clamshell and a fan.
Next stop, Market! Market!. I only checked a couple of second-hand bookshops there and bought a shojo manga in one of the bookshops as well.
Moving on to Bonifacio High Street, I checked the manga section at the largest (four-story) Fully Booked branch, their flagship store. There are some original Japanese manga books on the shelf, including Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba), Doraemon, Naruto, Haikyuu!, and more.
I noticed a significant reduction in the CDs being sold there. I can’t say the same for vinyl records and DVDs at this point, though.
There are some Plarail models for sale. They were quite pricey, though.
I also checked the discounted books at the ground level, but there’s not a single manga book to be found. I then took a look at some of the posters before checking the rest of BHS.
I actually saw some bazaars and food stalls in the BHS area. There's also an event in the One Bonifacio High Street area.
I checked a few shops in Central Bloc and One Bonifacio High Street malls.
I passed by the Burgos Circle area. I saw some joggers in the area.
I was about to head straight to the BGC Bus stop but I was extremely hungry at the moment. I then saw a couple of convenience stores: FamilyMart (Udenna Tower) and Lawson (Milestone at Fifth Avenue). I checked the offerings at FamilyMart first before moving to Lawson, where I had a pork katsu meal. Yup, a pork katsu with unlimited rice (which is actually two cups of rice) and barbecue sauce. The breaded katsu is quite tender, I can even cut it with a plastic spoon.
After that, I took a short bus ride to MRT Ayala Station. Luckily, I managed to catch a BGC Bus before the station temporarily transfers to the other side by 6:00 PM. There were only a few passengers inside the bus (just all of us from the bus stop) so I was able to sit down.
Reaching Ayala Center, I decided to check a few shops in the Glorietta and Greenbelt malls before taking the MRT to North Avenue. I just saw a bunch of awesome manga books at the Booksale branch in Greenbelt, especially the ones by Ken Akamatsu (Negima and A.I. Love You). Prior to that, I also saw other interesting manga books at their Market! Market! branch.
The real struggle begins here, at the busy MRT Ayala Station. Having spent 30 minutes on the platform, I finally managed to squeeze inside one of the jam-packed trains. I can even hardly move inside, for God's sake! I'm worried about my cap or my newly-bought (second-hand) manga getting squashed by some of the passengers. The train eventually decongested at MRT Cubao Station, and I can finally sit down and finish what I'm writing.
I decided to get off at MRT North Avenue station, partly because I find it difficult to catch a UV Express ride from Centris or Quezon Memorial Circle. I had to wait in line for more than 30 minutes before I finally get to board inside one of the UV Express vans.
As expected, traffic is mostly light in most parts of Commonwealth Avenue. The rest is moderate to heavy traffic, particularly in the North Fairview area. We did take a shortcut near Batasan (going to Regalado Avenue/FEU-NRMF area) to avoid the traffic. I got home at around 10:45 PM, which is quite unusual for me since I don't generally go home that late. Oh well, blame it on the MRT-3 and the long lines at the UV Express terminal…
It sure was an awesome day, probably except the last part. I get to have another e-jeepney ride, bought another manga, check out some interesting shops, and visit some great places (which are malls anyway). I could've bought the A.I. Love You manga books in that Booksale branch in Makati, but I really can't spend too much at the moment, not to mention that I don't have that much money to burn right now so I must control my urge to splurge. Kind of sad, really. Anyway, this trip somehow raised my spirits and keep me inspired throughout the day that's why I always do this. It’s a ritual.
So my next trip is either the North Avenue malls or the Makati (Rockwell/Circuit)-Binondo areas a.k.a. the Chinese New Year trip, which coincidentally falls on a Saturday. That's for January next year, as this is my last trip for this year. And yes, I'm looking forward to a cheerful Christmas and New Year celebrations ahead.

New Look Sabres: 2019 NHL Draft
Rasmus Dahlin is a hard act to follow. I think part of the reason Alex Nylander went through such Sabres popular opinion hell was because he was the first round pick the year after Jack Eichel’s Draft. Maybe that’s me projecting because my little Sabres heart hadn’t been broken for a while at that point. I really only jumped on the Sabres wagon at the beginning of the decade so my biggest lived disappointment in this team was the 2011 First Round against the Flyers. Picking Alex Nylander was a curve ball that year and he didn’t pan out immediately. That failing to hit on high draft picks was part of then-General Manager Tim Murray’s undoing and part of what ruined rebuild 1.0. That’s not to mention how bad GMTM was for Nylander’s development thrusting him right into the AHL. You couldn’t put all that on Nylander. I hoped so hard going into this Draft that whoever gets drafted the year after Dahlin isn’t under that kind of microscope right away. Nylander had a tiny little renaissance during his callup last season but he’s still not quite there yet. He’s about to enter what-the-hell-are-you territory but to be very honest his name coming up in trade talks made me a little angry. Hold back your snide tweets, apparently they’re informing the real insiders! I can’t imagine anything like the Nylander Saga repeating itself, but this is the Buffalo Sabres we’re talking about.
The Draft last year felt like a coronation for Sabres fans but just because we’re not getting a generational talent this go around doesn’t mean this draft isn’t ripe for drama. Rewind back about a month and Buffalo was once again the home of the NHL Combine. The event that now will be in Buffalo for several years to come saw the genesis of a few Draft narratives for the Sabres. The most notable one is the Alex Turcotte story. Apparently Sabres brass interviewed Turcotte and… his dad? The reports were conflicting but Turcotte definitely represented a big blip on the radar. The young Mittelstadt-color-palate-swapped center is from Chicagoland and was probably not likely falling any further than 7 – Buffalo’s first pick. Turcotte was a popular choice to go to the Blackhawks in many mock drafts because of the Chicago connection. Jason Botterill and the funky bunch also interviewed one London Knights forward Conor McMichael. Sabres bloggers smarter than I say he was an intriguing option for the other first round pick... that’s if we have that second first round pick because with other teams wheeling and dealing for a week plus going into the Draft Jason Botterill was quiet. There had been rumors galore connected to Buffalo from Tampa to Vancouver which made the lack of movement that much more peculiar. Add onto all this the debut of a Vegas Gold look for the Sabres “Golden Season” instead of royal blue and it was a wild week going into the Draft.
Jack Hughes and Kappo Kakko went first overall as expected. The Alex Turcotte watch was short lived, but he didn’t go third overall to Chicago as many predicted. He had to wait all the way to number 5 when the LA Kings scooped him up. Conor McMichael went 25th overall to Washington but this is a Sabres blog so you’re probably waiting for some Sabres talk. With the 7th overall pick the Buffalo Sabres selected WHL center Dylan Cozens. Once again, smarter bloggers than I say that selection was solid because the first round of this draft was really three tiers: the top two, two through about ten and then everyone else. The Red Wings threw a curve ball and selected Disney Channel star Moritz Seider throwing off everyone’s top ten but for the most part there weren’t many surprises. I was on the Cole Caulfield bandwagon, but he probably wasn’t a wise choice at seven. When he began to drop I even entertained the idea of Botterill trading up with that second first rounder to get him, but this was not one of those drafts and he went 15th overall to… Montreal. Ugh. How about something funny? The Panthers picked goalie Spencer Knight with their 13th overall. That was funny too, but this joke is a Sabres joke: Cozens is the first WHL draft pick in Jason Botterill’s time as General Manager of the Buffalo Sabres. This is a real, deep-cut Sabres joke but there is some humor to that. I think the social media guy for the team knew it too because one of the first photos from them after his pick was Sam Reinhart greeting him. Sam is the last WHL guy to be drafted onto the Sabres. Again, it’s deep cut joke about how Botts hates the WHL so it’s not going to get the whole room but there you go: Humor. I’m not going to pretend to know how to project out Cozens because again, I’m not the smart guy in the room; but I will say it is great to start to replenish the center depth in the organization which dropped off a cliff only a few guys down the depth chart.
The Sabres used the 31st overall pick to… just make a pick. No trades in the first round. As Day One wound down the swell of energy that it may happen dissipated and they picked USHL Defenseman Ryan Johnson. I am all for picking lefthanded D to help build up that side of the defense but the buzz around the pick was a guy with a Russian name who will certainly make me regret not knowing his name. Johnson could’ve easily fallen into the second round, but the pick was in and another defenseman is in the pipeline. Trades, at least the variety from the Sabres, were scarce in the remaining rounds on Saturday. The Sabres traded some late round picks but no real consequential trades on Draft weekend for Buffalo put a little bit of a damper on it all for me. I don’t really subscribe to the idea the yet-to-be-announced salary cap number is really what’s stopping trades. PK Subban got traded to the Devils for a bunch of no names and low picks while we wondered if Sabres 3rd round pick goalie Erik Portillo is in fact named after a type of pepper. The lack of movement right now isn’t something worth panicking about but if we’re sitting here next Monday on Free Agency Day wondering if we’re crazy I’m not going to blame anyone for hitting the panic button. Botterill has signaled a renewed faith in Rasmus Ristolainen probably egged on by the new coach so… you can fall either way on whether the OG Rasmus needs to go. I lean toward trade him but that doesn’t have to be right now. We’ll address all this stuff in the free agency blog so let’s take a look at who else was picked. I mentioned Portillo and we won’t see him even in Rochester for a couple years but that’s fine, the goalie depth was beginning to get shallow. Botts said openly he doesn’t want to rush Ukko Pekka-Lukkonen who will probably make his Rochester Americans debut this coming season. That is smart and frustrating because goalies take a long time to develop when you do it right but… uh… did you watch the second half of last season? Part of that collapse was the goalie tandem coming back down to earth hard. Folks were clamoring for UPL, probably a little too hastily but that’s what eight years out of the playoffs will do to you. I am not particularly jazzed about the other three guys we got. You take flyers on guys that far down in the draft and the chances are better than not all three of these guys I am about to mention don’t make the NHL: Aaron Huglen, Filip Cederqvist and Lukas Rousek. Hopefully one of them is a diamond in the rough. Perhaps it’s unfair for us to be so underwhelmed. Sean Tierney at Charting Hockey placed the Sabres in a top six of teams who did well at the Draft. He’s worth follow if you want to understand how you can make a graph of average likelihood to make the NHL because Lord knows I can’t explain that.
Like, share and comment on the New Look Sabres blog. It’s great to be back at it. You can expect the post on the 2019-2020 NHL Schedule later this week. By the sounds of it that will be released by the league either tomorrow or Wednesday. We already have the preseason, season opener and home opener but I’ll save all that analysis for that blog. Then later on next week you can expect a Free Agency Recap. Normally by the fourth of July the action quiets down. Jeff Skinner happened in August last summer but hey, I’m not psychic. Thank you to everyone who responded kindly to me dropping off the map for a couple days. My wife and I had a family emergency that we needed to address so we put everything on hold. We’re back now and things are going to be alright. Your support means a lot to me and I hope if you ever need something I can be there for you as well. To lighten the mood: let’s hope we don’t need to be here for each other after a worst-case scenario offseason! Pieces are moving and for all the rumors the Sabres are in on this guy and that guy there hasn’t been a lot to actually talk about. I guess we’ll see. It wouldn’t be fun if we knew the ending, eh? Let’s Go Buffalo!
Thanks for reading.
P.S. That Moritz Seider was shocked to go as high as he did. The gif of his reaction is some precious draft video for the ages.
