CONCEPT DOODLES for an AU I dabbled in with a few friends after the winter king episode but kinda forgot about after the Fionna and Cake finale... I decided to revisit it and explore a little more after coming to terms with everything LOL... So, it's another "Winter King doesn't die immediately after his crown gets nuked" AU, but THIS TIME he's just dying really slowly (like Simon in the Betty episode) and ALSO joins Fionna, Cake, and Simon on their search for magic crowns. There's no logic behind this tbh, we just wanted to put him through The Horrors. And make them all friends. But mostly The Horrors. :) (he only gets to live as a treat, because I think he's funny).

That's right, Daniel still has to prove himself because he doesn't have a suga daddy to buy him a seat. Hope this makes you happy and hope you enjoy watching checo wreck that car for the rest of the race.

okay so first, do not come into my blog and be rude. that’s not gonna fly here as I respect all the drivers regardless of their driving abilities.

The reason I said he has to improve is because in the last 14 races, his teammate Yuki has outperformed him in every race but 5 which were Bahrain, Canada, Spain, Austria and Spa. If we count in Daniel’s DNF in Japan, then will have to count in the double DNF in China.

Yuki is ahead of Daniel in the standings by 10 points! That means Yuki missed out of points in 6 races!! If anything, Yuki deserves that seat. We can blame it all we want on the car and team and strategy all we want —and i’m genuinely biting myself in the ass with this given the team i follow—but one made it work and the other is struggling.

Do I personally believe that Daniel is out of his prime? No! He clearly still has potential, it’s just that he’s currently being outshined by a teammate that is clearly doing better. Yuki himself thinks that he deserves a chance in the Redull seat.

Now, with Checo.

The first time he dropped out of the top five was in Emilia when he ended up in P8, in Monaco he was crashed out, in Canada he DNF’d, in Spain he placed P8, P7 in Austria, he got P17 in Silverstone and Daniel got P13, both of them out of the points. In Hungary he got P8 again and P7 again in Belgium. In 14 races, Checo missed out on points 3 times. The reason it looked bad was because he crashed out back to back.

Wanna know the difference? Checo was and is still scoring points. In the last 14 races, Daniel outperformed Checo once. Besides those three races, Checo has consistently stayed within the top ten.

Compare Checo’s 131 points and 4 podiums to Daniel’s 12 points and 0 podiums.

Another reason his performance looks “bad” is because of the Red Bull dominance. While it’s not completely wavering, Mclaren has shown how fast they are with how consistent they’ve been within the top 10 and top 5.

It puts the Red Bull Dominance in jeopardy if Checo continues to place lower than the Ferraris and Mclarens, who again, are their biggest competitors right now.

Had it been any other team, they would have been satisfied with Checo’s placement but because it’s not just any team, it puts an insane amount of pressure on Checo.

And the car is bad!! Checo has been saying that he’s been struggling with it and no one bats an eye, but the moment Max struggled to pull a miracle out of his ass at the Hungarian GP, everyone started pointing out how shitty the car is.

Now, did Checo’s financial backing save his seat? In a way yeah. That’s the power of having personal sponsors and the financial means to back him up.

If Red Bull starts listening to their drivers and figure out what’s wrongs with the car, then i wholeheartedly believe that the two can climb to the top again and stay there.

And since it seems that you didn’t read the second part of my original post, I said that if Checo doesn’t improve then they’ll have no choice but to drop him and promote a VCARB driver and in parentheses i put Daniel even though i personally believe that Yuki deserves that seat.

In the end, that post was just my opinion but you had to go and be rude on my blog and I had to pull all this information out. Remember that there was at least three drivers in consideration for Checo’s seat, it genuinely could’ve been anyone.

The whole ending for the main timeline kinda sucks for Zaun, even the one good thing they get is backhanded as fuck.

Like sure, Sevika is on the council- but the council relies on majority vote, and every other member of the council only work in the interests of themselves or of piltover. Nobody else cares about Zaun, so nothing will change.

And Piltover shows they will alway protect and prioritize their own over everything else

Cait gets no consequences for her actions from the last two acts, despite doing many, many crimes. She released the Gray on the Undercity- which is going to cause disease, death, etc to many innocent people (the same disease Viktor was dying of, it was a direct result of Piltover’s oppression and the gray- I could go on and on about his ending but I shan’t.), arresting random Zaunites- including children- and just leaving them in prison, and even tho we hate Singed, threatening to throw him under the fucking prison was a little far. She gave him the opportunity to either join her or die. So the people of Zaun are animals and criminals until they’re useful?

And the scene of the Noxian guy (can’t remember his name) literally torturing that Jinxer??? Ambassa’s dead and so is he, so I guess thats their consequence, but nothing for Cait? No, Cait gets to have a nice life, she might feel guilty and maybe she’ll have a couple nightmares but really she’s not facing a single consequences You guys remember when Jayce almost got exiled for Hextech in season one? A crime in which nobody died or was grievously harmed? Yet there are no consequences Caitlyn hmmm

After everything the people of Zaun have gone through, they get nothing- they see their oppressor hailed as a hero, they see their children die of a disease that should never have touched the new generation (or just straight up suffocate while it was actively being deployed- if they get caught in that they are dead- little lungs and little legs yk- if they can’t escape it then they die) they see their only hope (Sevika) repeatedly shot down by the council, they see the abuse will continue. Even after everything they lost- all those who fought in Piltovers war- they get nothing. They helped, they worked with them when working against them didn’t work, and they still get nothing.

I think Ekko’s ending really drives it home- the ONE character who deserves the world above everybody else is sitting alone in the end. He did everything right but was still alone. If he -and Jinx- hadn’t rallied their forces and convinced the people of Zaun to fight then Piltover would have lost to Noxius. He convinced his people to fight and die for Piltover- but Cait’s the hero, and he’s still fighting for his own people.

The Lost Girls of Camp Forevermore - Kim Fu

Summary: A group of young girls at sleepaway camp get stranded in the woods by themselves in Canada (sound familiar?). The narrative alternates between what happened in the woods, and a vignette from each girl in their adult life.

Yellowjackets connection: This book is so spiritually similar to Yellowjackets it’s wild. The way that we see what happened in the woods and flash forward to the adults and how it affected them. The way that it's partially about the viciousness that comes out when girls are left alone. The way that hierarchies break down in the woods. I find myself thinking about this book while watching Yellowjackets.

Is it queer?: only a very little with one character in her adult life

My Brilliant Friend - Elena Ferrante

Summary: Elena and Lila are two intelligent girls growing up in poverty in 1950’s Naples. They have an obsessive and competitive relationship. Elena is able to get an education when Lila is not, and their paths diverge here. The entire four-part book series follows their relationship and distinct lives into late adulthood.

Yellowjackets Connection: My Brilliant Friend is about a lot more than just female friendship, class differences foremost. But obsessive homoerotic female friendships and their complications are front and center. The Neapolitan series follows Elena and Lila as they grow into adults and have their own children, so it shows young women and the adults they grow into. Also has themes of trauma, unreliable narrators, patriarchy, jealousy, ambitious women. 

If you follow my tumblr you know I will connect anything to MBF but Yellowjackets writers did it for me in the show. They literally said Shauna/Jackie = Elena/Lila. If you don’t remember, this is when adult Shauna has dinner with Jackie’s mom who says she’s reading MBF and that the girls in the book remind her so much of Shauna and Jackie. She meant it as an insult to Shauna but it really is a great comparison. Especially since Lila and Elena def had something vaguely fruity going on (but also for other, spoilery reasons). Elena Ferrante is pretty much the go-to when it comes to writing about complicated female friendships so it is not a surprise that they reference it in the show. If you are obsessed with the Shauna/Jackie “friendship” this book series is for you! 

Is it queer? if you consider Jackie and Shauna’s relationship to be queer then yes. There is a lot of subtext and in the later books a little more than subtext. 

Cat’s Eye - Margaret Atwood

Summary: A painter returns to where she grew up and memories that she blocked out of a traumatic childhood friendship resurface.

Yellowjackets connection: Women thinking about their traumatic friendships! And how these affected them going forward in life. The girls in this are a little younger than Yellowjackets girls but I think it is still a foundational text about traumatic female friendships and unreliable narrators. I am absolutely a Margaret Atwood apologist so don’t come for me (or do. I love messages in my inbox)

Big Swiss - Jen Beagin

Summary: Greta is a transcriber for a sex therapist where she learns all sorts of intimate details of his clients. She becomes obsessed with a client and even starts a sexual relationship with her! She does not disclose her prior knowledge of this woman so things get messy. 

Fun fact for Killing Eve fans: It is going to be made into a series starring Jodie Comer!

Yellowjackets connection: This is the only book on this list that doesn’t really flash between old and young versions of a character (a bit at the end). Yet I think it deserves to be on this list because messy queer women and obsession and mental illness. Also now that I am thinking about it actually the main character does think about her childhood in the woods a bit...

Is it queer?: The main relationship is between two women and they have a lot of sex. So, yes!

Trust Exercise - Susan Choi

Summary: Don’t want to spoil any of the big reveals but it’s vaguely about highschool  theatre kids and their unhealthy dynamic with their abusive theatre teacher. Trigger warnings for statutory rape and general predatory behavior.

Yellowjackets connection: The reason I put this on my list is because it is about women in high school going through trauma and their adult selves dealing with it. It is about the stories they tell themselves to cope. It is about unreliable narrators. It is about narrative and truth and figuring out what actually happened. The book will not tell you directly, you have to discover it yourself (or read a review that explains it).

I love Austen's novels, obviously, but I do find the kind of worshipful, defensive takes from the fandom and some academia really frustrating. Yes, there are some really obnoxious Austen anti-fans and there are some bad faith or short-sighted or just extremely flawed criticisms. But.

There's quite a bit in Austen that I find bizarre and unexpected, even accounting for the differences of time and culture. It's uncomfortable in a way that I mostly find interesting. And I think some parts of fandom are in such a rush to defend her honor or stature that the fascinating oddities in her work—especially her work outside of P&P—get sanded down in the discourse around her.

Sometimes it's just like ... #keepaustenweird, you know? It's okay for the canon pairing or random asides or whatever to be genuinely strange.
