🇦🇺 ☠️ 🚨 CELEBRATED JOURNALIST AND JULIAN ASSANGE BACKER, JOHN PILGER DEAD AT 84

The celebrated Australian journalist and public backer of Julian Assange, John Richard Pilger died at age 84 today.

Pilger was a strong critic of American and Western Foreign Policy, and became well known as a strong backer of Julian Assange in his fight against U.S. and British imprisonment.

Pilger was known for his books, films and articles informing multiple generations on several critical issues such as the U.S. wars in Vietnam, Iraq and the U.S.'s aggressive moves towards China in his documentary, "The Coming War with China."

Pilger was a winner of a multitude of awards over his life, including the British Journalist of the Year twice, and was also awarded the Consortium News's Gary Webb Freedom of the Press Award.

In recent years, Pilger was a strong anti-Imperialist and anti-colonialist who became banned in Western Mainstream media and would only appear alternative and independent media.

EDIT: I've now made a post that you can read here with more information about the ICJ rulings, their powers and what we can do with this ruling here. I had to this morning and will continue to delete, report, and block all comments/asks that are anti-Arab, zionist, Islamophobic, racist, and/or antisemitic.

We already knew this but the ICJ has now ruled that Israel's continued occupation of Palestine is illegal and needs to end ASAP.

They found that Israel's occupation does not give it the right of sovereignty over the West Bank and Gaza and that it is not a temporary occupation but is an illegal, permanent and discriminatory annexation. The ICJ also found violence against Palestinians, Israeli exploitation of Palestinian natural resources, transfer of civilian population (settlers and companies/organisations), extension of Israeli laws to replace local Palestinian laws, forced displacement of Palestinians, confiscation of Palestinian land, annexation. That Israel's 'security concerns' are not valid justifications for any of these measures.

The ICJ has ordered Israel to end its presence in the West Bank and Gaza immediately and to cease all new settlement activity, return all lands and assets to Palestinians that they've ceased since 1967 and that includes archives and items of cultural significance, evacuate all of their settlers from the settlements, pay compensation, and repeal all laws that maintain this occupation and discrimination. The ICJ is not legally-binding but does carry significant political weight and this ruling is important for continuing to advocate for Palestine and to put pressure on our government's to do the right thing and for them to put pressure on Israel. Journalist Moataz Mustafa Al-Ghafri, his wife, and his son, Joud, were martyred as a result the IOF targeting their car, north of Gaza City. He is the 128th journalist to be martyred in Gaza since October 7th.

This is DEEPLY fucking concerning. It also explains the earlier report about Reuters denying they had prior knowledge too. I can see them using this as 'justifiable cause' for targeting journalists.

In the way they claim Hamas is in every mosque, ambulance, portaloo, I'm waiting for them to start saying the journalists they murder were ones who recorded footage from the 7th.

The repression units frequently ordered prisoners to drop to the ground and brutally beat them. Israel is conducting massacres and mass arrests as it decimates northern Gaza. With journalists and social media activists increasingly targeted and detained, less and less footage is getting out of Israel’s ethnic cleansing campaign. ⁣

Israel has killed at least 175 journalists since the start of its genocide. Now, it has labeled six Al Jazeera journalists as “terrorists,” which the network denied, calling Israel’s claims “fabricated accusations as a blatant attempt to silence the few remaining journalists in the region.” ⁣

The Committee to Protect Journalists said on X, “Israel has repeatedly made similar unproven claims without producing credible evidence.” ⁣

As it silences journalists, Israel has leveled over 10 residential buildings in Jabalia and stormed the north’s only remaining hospital, threatening the lives of about 200 patients trapped inside and conducting mass arrests. ⁣
