Amorim to United your thoughts?
I actually just wrote about this, check it out. Probably not what people want to hear, but I’ve never been one to pander to fans. If I feel good about something I say so, if I don’t I won’t. I like him, I think he’s got potential. There are promising players and coaches in Portugal, it’s why I continually keep an eye on the league. But the Primeira Liga isn’t the Premier League, as some coaches have found out recently.
I believe the last manager who coached in Portugal and went on to win the Premier League or the Champions League was Mourinho and he’s really a rare one. Managers that win either of those competitions are incredibly rare by default.
We had one that took his team to a Champions League semifinal 5 years ago and we’re replacing him with someone whose best finish in was the round of 16 with an overall record of 7 wins, 7 losses, 3 draws and a 0 goal difference. At least when Ajax drops back to group stage or round of 16 exits is usually because all of their best players got poached again, which happens regularly. With Amorim, I feel it’s because his teams don’t defend well enough against better opposition; it’s the same problem I had with Nagelsmann. Ten Hag was just beginning to improve our defending when we sacked him so this will be interesting if it happens. 😅

Book 519
J.G. Posada: Messenger of Mortality
Julian Rothenstein, ed.
Moyer Bell Limited 1989
I think José Guadalupe Posada (1852-1913) may be one of my favorite artists. His work speaks to so many aspects of my own personality—satirical, humorous, populist, absurd, and with a great appreciation for the morbid. So, I think it’s a bit of a crime that there aren’t more books of his work published in this country. It is estimated that over the course of his career he produced over 20,000 images, but, despite that, he died penniless and forgotten. However, it wouldn’t be long after his passing that he would be rediscovered and studied by such artists as Rivera and Kahlo, and then by Europeans such as Eisenstein and the French surrealists. Posada saw and memorialized life as it happened around him—the working people, riots, natural disasters, suicides, murders, and crimes—but it is his calaveras, the skulls used to commemorate the Day of the Dead, which he used to expose hypocrisy and reveal the ultimate absurdity of humanity, that he is best remembered.

Introducing: LATE NIGHT DRIVE
*Hey guys! I hope all of you enjoyed my last short story because it does not end here. It has given me a lot of bravery to upload my old writings which I don't know why due to the fact, I've been doing it for a while now especially, on this account. I do hope you love to read it as well as this upcoming one, this one is super short. I actually wrote it for my sophomore year English class assignment and ever since, then I've loved it. So here it is...

Movies watched in 2023
Cerdita (Piggy) (2022, Spain)
Director & Writer: Carlota Pereda
Mini-review:
I loved this way more than I thought I would. The representation probably isn't perfect, but it portrays fatphobia in a really harsh and unflinching light. Some people might find it too much, but I think Carlota Pereda made the right choice, showing how bullying and abuse can affect a person's psyche. Oh, and it was a fantastic move to show that fatphobia can happen at home as much as it happens outside. While there are strong doses of dark humor here and there, the movie is a pretty hard watch at times, so be warned.
All that being said, the movie's true power rests entirely on Laura Galán's bravura performance. She perfectly conveys her character's anxiety, confusion and terror. I couldn't help but relate to her, even as her situation escalates into something pretty crazy. Also, Carmen Machi's acting is as excellent as always, but I already expected that. Finally, I wanted to mention the cinematography and the sound design. The movie flawlessly captures the vibes of summer life in a small, rural-ish Spanish town, from the light to the background noises. So yeah, I will definitely keep an eye out for Pereda and Galán's future work.

ESTA ESPAÑA QUE NO CONOZCO. Rafael Dávila Álvarez. General de División (R.)
“Rocroi. El último Tercio”. Óleo sobre lienzo pintado por Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau Aceptémoslo de mal o buen grado. Lo veo muy negro. A mi edad no suelo equivocarme. Es una pena, pero la antigüedad es un grado, el de la experiencia y estudio, cosas que no siempre son buenas. Ser oráculo no es envidiable, sobre todo cuando la gente te va apartando del camino por viejo. La España que veo es otra muy…

Pentiment's Complete Bibliography, with links to some hard-to-find items:
I've seen some people post screenshots of the game's bibliography, but I hadn't found a plain text version (which would be much easier to work from), so I put together a complete typed version - citation style irregularities included lol. I checked through the full list and found that only four of the forty sources can't be found easily through a search engine. One has no English translation and I'm not even close to fluent enough in German to be able to actually translate an academic article, so I can't help there. For the other three (a museum exhibit book, a master's thesis, and portions of a primary source that has not been entirely translated into English), I tracked down links to them, which are included with their entries on the list.
If you want to read one of the journal articles but can't access it due to paywalls, try out 12ft.io or the unpaywall browser extension (works on Firefox and most chromium browsers). If there's something you have interest in reading but can't track down, let me know, and I can try to help! I'm pretty good at finding things lmao
Okay, happy reading, love you bye
