it’s giving ‘his eyes are as green as fresh pickled toad’
regulus having a crush on his brother’s best friend and pining in secret for years is so important to me.
regulus writing anonymous love letters to james and leaving them where he knows james will find them. james being so curious and flattered, slowly getting invested in every single word, wanting to know who looks at him with those kind of eyes. him finding out on valentines day because he receives the same card he saw in regulus’ room one day. yes please yesss

"Hogwarts Express" - Jegulus microfic @into-the-jeggyverse - 1466 words
@abductedhiko
-
First Year
Regulus, Sirius, and his parents apparated to Kings Cross station for Regulus’s first year and Sirius’s second. Regulus had imagined it for so long, not having to be in that house while Sirius lived this wonderful life he’d heard so much about.
Sirius hurried onto the Hogwarts Express to find his friends. Just as Regulus was about to follow him, his mother grabbed his wrist with a grip so tight he thought it might break. He turned to look at her. She pulled him into a hug, though not one full of warmth as he might have dreamed of had he not lost all naivety about his parents years ago.
“Do not follow in your brother’s footsteps. Do not let him misguide you,” Walburga warned.
Regulus only nodded. She let him go, saying something about seeing him in June. He got onto the train and went to find his brother. He found Sirius in a compartment sitting with his friends, who he’d told Regulus about endlessly over the summer. Regulus stood awkwardly at the door until Sirius noticed he was there. He grinned from ear to ear.
“Guys, this is my brother, Reggie!” Sirius announced. He pulled Regulus down to sit next to him.
Remus, Peter, and James all greeted him. James, who was sitting next to him, added, “It’s great to meet you. Sirius has told me loads about you.”
Regulus did not respond, though could barely keep the smile off his face at the thought of Sirius talking about him the way he had spoken about James.
Those hours on the train were the last time Regulus truly felt close to Sirius. Just before Regulus was taken away with the other first-years, Sirius pulled him into his arms, all of the love Regulus lacked from their parents seeping into him. He wished him good luck.
Regulus was sorted into Slytherin. Sirius barely spoke to him that year.
Second Year
Sirius did not say goodbye to their parents. He pushed past Regulus onto the Hogwarts Express.
“Goodbye, mother. Goodbye, father,” Regulus mumbled.
Walburga tilted his chin up and cupped his face. “Goodbye. Be good.”
Regulus pretended this was love. It was the closest he would get to it.
He did not try to find his brother once on the train, though he did run into one of Sirius’s friends. James’s hands went to Regulus’s arms to steady him.
“Sorry, Reggie!” James grinned.
“Don’t call me that,” Regulus muttered, pulling out of James’s grip.
James’s grin didn’t falter. “How was your summer?”
Regulus raised his eyebrows. How was his summer? Was he seriously asking that? James seemed to think the same thing, as his smile dropped and he looked sheepish. “Uh, right. Sorry.”
Regulus moved past him, finding the compartment that his friends were in. He sat down with Evan, Barty, and Pandora, while they waited for Dorcas and Emmeline.
He could count on his fingers the amount of times he spoke to his brother that year.
Third Year
Sirius spotted James and Peter before they’d even gotten on the train. To Walburga and Orion’s utter disdain, Sirius ran over and hugged them. Regulus watched, overcome with a sense of longing that he tried desperately to push down. He’d spoken to Sirius more over the summer, and he’d deluded himself into thinking that maybe this year things could be different. But Sirius did not look back once, did not check that Regulus was okay before climbing onto the train with his friends.
Maybe because Regulus glared at the back of Sirius’s head, maybe because he had been the perfect image of a Black heir, his mother did not hug him or cup his face or even pretend for a moment that she would miss him. She had his loyalty, she wouldn’t waste her time play-acting.
He got onto the train and headed straight for his friends, only stopping to listen to James Potter pointlessly flirting with Lily Evans. There was a strange feeling in his stomach, sickness, maybe, at the thought of James and Lily together. Regulus was simply embarrassed for James and his poor attempts at wooing Lily. That was all it was, Regulus was sure.
Regulus pushed Sirius away at every attempt at a relationship that year. He wasn’t sure why. Sirius seemed to give up after a few months.
Fourth Year
Sirius and Regulus got onto the train together. Their mother had no warning to give Regulus this year. Regulus didn’t know what that said about him, whether to be proud of it or to hate himself.
Sirius muttered a farewell that Regulus did not return and they went their separate ways.
For the first two hours of the train ride, Regulus sat with his friends and tried to push the thought of his brother out of his mind. This became hard, though, when James Potter knocked on their compartment door.
“Come sit with us,” James pleaded.
Regulus’s denial was half-hearted, so much so that James sat next to him. “I’m not leaving until you say yes.”
“Fuck off, Potter,” Regulus spat.
James did not. In fact, Regulus let himself be convinced to sit with them. Regulus had expected revulsion from his friends. Instead, they were happy for him. It was the first time since before Sirius had left for Hogwarts that Regulus felt that he was loved.
He and Sirius grew closer, forced together by James’s insistent meddling. It was near-perfect. Except that every time James even looked in Lily’s direction, Regulus felt that same feeling in his stomach. Because James was embarrassing. And for no other reason.
Everything was going well until Sirius nearly got Snape killed one full moon. It was months before Remus forgave him, longer for James. Regulus never really did.
Fifth Year
Before Walburga could say anything to Regulus, he rushed onto the Hogwarts Express, Sirius close behind him. Regulus sat with his friends, who he had grown impossibly closer to. Pandora rested her head in his lap, her legs in Evan’s.
“Have you guys seen the Prophet?” Emmeline asked. “All this Voldemort shit?”
“Nah, but Dad’s been talking about him a lot,” Barty said, rolling his eyes.
They didn’t speak more of him. They didn’t know that it mattered.
Sixth Year
Walburga’s grip on Regulus’s shoulder was painful, her nails digging into his skin.
“Do not talk to that traitor. If I find out that you have spoken to him at all…” She didn’t dare finish her threat in public. Regulus understood anyway.
Once on the train, both James and Sirius tried to speak to Regulus. Regulus attempted to push past them, but Sirius grabbed his arm.
“Reg…”
“I can’t talk to you, Sirius,” Regulus muttered.
“Please-”
“I can’t.”
Something had changed between fifth- and sixth-year. Pandora did not lay between Regulus and Evan. Barty did not scoff over Voldemort. They spoke of the Death Eaters, of how Avery had gotten the Dark Mark over the summer and how Barty’s father was setting up an apprenticeship for him at the Ministry. They did not feel like children. The world was darkening around them and they felt as though they were choking on it.
Maybe this darkness was why Regulus allowed himself tiny portions of light in the form of broom cupboards and a boy who felt like the sun. He knew what would be expected of him come summer, he knew he would join the Death Eaters and throw away everything good in his life. He let himself have just this, this one thing.
Seventh Year
Regulus did not want to let go. The train was about to leave, but he couldn’t pull away.
Beside them, Sirius cleared his throat loudly. “Hey, lovebirds. Regulus has to go.”
Regulus glared at Sirius, and he wouldn’t admit how much he would miss his brother. James still held his hand, and Regulus wasn’t sure if, after a whole summer of this love, he could bear to let it go. It was only ten months. It was less than a year, and they would see each other in Hogsmeade whenever possible. Regulus still did not pull away.
Regulus held onto James until the very last moment. When he finally got onto the train, he felt lighter than he ever had despite his sadness at leaving his boyfriend.
There was this guilty sort of satisfaction that he felt when he noticed how many people from Slytherin were missing that year, many pulled out of school to be pawns in their parents’ games, forced to take the dark mark. Regulus knew how close he had gotten to that life, how he could see it coming for him, all the plans his parents had for his life. He had made it out, he had followed his brother, as he always would.

Prompt 16 - Unfair
@jegulus-microfic February 16, Word count 561
Previous part First part
“Fine, I promise not to tell anyone whatever you’re about to divulge.” Regulus sat back on the sofa, looking completely at ease, but James could see the tension playing in the corners of his mouth and around his eyes. It was unfair to keep him waiting.
“We mean it. You can’t breathe a word of this to anyone, or we could all end up in Azkaban.” Sirius said stiffly.
“Merlin, Sirius, what have you done?” Regulus scoffed, his lips pressing closer together.
“When we found out about Remus,” James began to explain. “He told us that Moony was the one who gave him his scars.” Remus sat forward and took over.
“I was bitten when I was five years old,” Regulus’s eyebrows shot up in shock. “The transformations weren’t so bad when I was little. Mum said I would just curl up and go to sleep. But around the time I hit puberty, the wolf began getting restless. He started taking it out on me for locking him in before the transformation. It was getting worse, then Sirius, James and Peter came to me with this amazing, life-changing gift,” Remus paused, swallowing thickly and taking a shuddering breath. Sirius grabbed his hand and squeezed it.
“We figured something out. Werewolves are only a danger to humans. So, obviously, we couldn’t be around Moony as humans or, best case scenario, we end up as werewolves and, worst case…” Sirius curled his lip and gestured with his hands.
“Well, we figured out that werewolves can’t change animals into werewolves. So we came up with a theory that if we weren’t human, then we would be safe from werewolf bites,” James took over. Regulus looked at him in horror as he put all the pieces together.
“There aren’t any documented cases of that theory being tested,” Regulus spoke quietly and evenly as he stared at the three.
“Well, now there is,” Sirius said in the same tone. “Or, there would be if we registered what we’ve done.”
“Please tell me that you don’t run around with a werewolf every full moon as an illegal animagus,” Regulus groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose while he squinted his eyes closed. He looked like he had a severe headache.
“Surprise,” Sirius said with forced cheer as he transformed into Padfoot. He plodded over to Regulus, who was still nursing his head. James watched as Padfoot nudged his free hand with his nose, and Regulus automatically lifted his hand to pet the oversized dog. James saw the exact moment Regulus realised what his hand was doing and froze. It took everything James had not to fall to the floor with laughter as Regulus jumped up and crossed the room away from his brother.
“Is that Sirius?” He asked Remus. Remus nodded. Regulus looked at James. “And what exactly do you turn into?” A smile broke out across his face as he called upon the magic needed to change into his animal form.
He closed his eyes and felt the familiar warmth ripple over him as his body quickly shifted into the regal stag that was just as much him as James was. Regulus gasped as he took in the enormous creature before him. Prongs let out a snort and bowed his head, hoping that Regulus wouldn’t completely freak out.
The room was still, and then Regulus moved.

been thinking about this lately: au where regulus is remus’ doctor; regulus and sirius have a good relationship and sirius occasionally drops by regulus’ practice to have lunch, only to end up flirting shamelessly and inappropriately for months with his little brother’s big brown eyed patient. on the other hand, however, remus is not to be trusted to go to the doctor by himself, and so how could his over protective best friend james potter ever let him go alone? and oh, isn’t remus’ mean doctor just the most outrageously attractive man he’s ever seen?

“St. Mungos” - Jegulus microfic @into-the-jeggyverse - 496 words
@abductedhiko
-
“Alright, Mr. Potter. I need to check your vitals and cast a few healing spells,” Regulus said with a smile. He had taken a liking to Fleamont in the few days that he’d been at St. Mungos, after suffering a pretty scary heart attack.
Euphemia walked into the room holding baked goods from the cafe just opposite the hospital. Fleamont beamed up at her and held out his hand for them, but Euphemia shook her head and put them out of his reach. “Let’s see what your vitals say first.”
Fleamont let out a sort of whine-chuckle that made Euphemia glare fondly at him. Regulus chuckled and checked his vitals, recasting healing spells he’d been keeping up for the last two days. Once he was done and had confirmed that everything was looking good, all things considered, Euphemia handed Fleamont his food.
“I’ll be back in a few hours, Mr. Potter,” Regulus told him.
“Call me Monty, please,” Fleamont reminded him.
When Regulus came back, as he said he would, a few hours later, Euphemia and Fleamont were not the only ones in the room.
“James, you really didn’t have to come,” Fleamont sighed, though he was gripping James’s hand and grinning up at him.
“I can spare a few hours. I can’t believe you didn’t tell me you had a heart attack,” James replied, trying to look angry but failing quite miserably, as he simply seemed relieved that his father was okay.
Regulus cleared his throat, trying not to stare at the man. He kept his eyes on Fleamont’s chart as he approached them.
“Ah, Regulus, this is my son, James,” Fleamont introduced proudly. “Plays for the Montrose Magpies, he does!”
“Dad,” James groaned, “you don’t have to tell people that every time.”
Regulus hid his smile as he kept his eyes trained on the chart. “Dr. Rosier will be in to see you tomorrow morning, and if all is well, you can go home.”
The following morning, Fleamont was discharged from the hospital. Regulus was not needed, as Evan had been the one to check him over. So, he didn’t have to see Fleamont’s son again, to his great relief.
Well, that’s what he thought, anyway.
“Hey, Regulus,” a low voice said from beside him.
Regulus looked up to see James, all hazel eyes and messy hair. He was grinning like a mad-man, leaning far too close to Regulus. Regulus took a step back, turning back to his paperwork, which was suddenly very interesting.
“You didn’t say goodbye,” James commented.
“Yes, well, I wasn’t needed.” Regulus swallowed hard.
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” James said.
Before Regulus could say anything else, James slipped him a piece of paper. “Bye, Regulus.” James winked and walked away confidently.
Regulus looked down at the piece of paper, which had a phone number written on it, and underneath, ‘You took care of my dad. Wonder if I could take care of you to repay the debt.’

@into-the-jeggyverse / exam / 282 words // @bloodbruise @del-stars
“Baby, can you relax?” James turned on his seat to look at his boyfriend. His hands tense around the wheel.
“Don’t tell me what to do, Potter.” Regulus scolded him. James had a soft spot for Regulus’ stern tone, yet he knew how nervous he could get in new environments.
“If you’re getting all ‘Potter’ on me then we are not going.”
Regulus glanced at him for just a second, his expression a warning.
“So she can hate me before she even meets me? Brilliant, James!” He switched on the music—anything to distract himself from what was happening tonight.
James stayed quiet, watching him, eyes trained on the way Regulus gripped the wheel. He waited until his knuckles stopped turning white.
“She won’t hate you,” James assured him.
“How do you know that?”
“She’s never hated any of my exes.”
Regulus rolled his eyes. “Well, that just makes me more nervous.”
James softened, shifting to the voice he reserved for moments like this—when Regulus was stuck in his own head. “She will love you.”
Regulus let out a breath and dropped his right hand to James’ thigh. “Promise?”
Gently, James lifted his hand, pressed a kiss to Regulus' palm, then intertwined their fingers. “Promise, love.”
When they were two minutes away, Regulus started mumbling under his breath, too quiet for James to catch.
“What’s going on, baby?”
“Nothing.”
“This isn’t an exam, love.”
They pulled into the driveway, and Regulus rang the doorbell. Within seconds, Effie Potter opened the door, beaming.
“Welcome!” She threw her arms around both her son and his boyfriend.
“Un gusto conocerla,” Regulus said shyly.
Effie’s eyes widened as she turned to James. “Oh, I love him already!”
