I just realized that in S1E3, Spanish Jackie still referred to Jim as Bonifacia, but then in S1E8 when Jim turned up with Geraldo, Jackie called them Jim
Which means that either Jim started the hostage negotiation with their name and pronouns
Or somewhere in Izzyâs hate-fueled diatribe against Stede he also mentioned that the crew member with all the knives is non-binary now
And I CANNOT decide which is funnier

Mira Lazine at LGBTQ Nation:
Yesterday, a group of âgay furry hackersâ known as SiegedSec released 200 gigabytes of leaked data from the Heritage Foundation on their Telegram, a group texting application. âThis breach can help shine light on who exactly is supporting Heritage, and also encourage people to fight against them even more than before,â said a member of the group known as âvioâ to LGBTQ Nation. âI believe itâs also worth noting, this could help show the amount of support Heritage has thatâs provided by malicious users or bots from China,â she said while linking to a thread on X by journalist Jackie Singh, which analyzes the leakâs data.
The leak resulted from a string of hacks carried out by the groupâs â#OpTransRights,â which targets groups opposed to trans civil rights. The Heritage Foundation in particular was targeted for its creation of Project 2025, a plan to install ultraconservative policies if former President Donald Trump wins the 2024 presidential election. Project 2025âs desired policies include strong restrictions on transgender care and denying any legal recognition of trans peopleâs gender identities. LGBTQ Nation obtained access to the leaked data. It contains information from between 2007 and 2022, and it focuses primarily around the Heritage Foundationâs news wing, The Daily Signal. The data includes information on commentersâ email and IP addresses, along with information regarding those who had articles posted on the site.
[...] SiegedSec has targeted other groups and individuals earlier this year as part of #OpTransRights, including the ultraconservative outlet Real Americaâs Voice and a Minnesota church pastor who was accused of transphobia.
Project 2025 architects The Heritage Foundation got targeted by a gay furry hackers collective called SiegedSec. These heroes shined a light on Heritageâs bigoted ways.

One worldbuilding detail Soul Eater really had going for it was the way they explained everyone having weird, unique and horror-movie inspired names such as Soul Eater, Black*Star, Franken Stein.
The school all these kids attend allows them to sign up with any name they want and to change their names once every six months.
You better believe if I were a thirteen year old with the ability to turn into a scythe and eat monster souls I'd call myself Soul Eater too. "But isn't his original name 'Soul Evans'? That's already a weird first name." He's from a family of musicians. He probably has a cousin called R'n'B.
It also made for the very nice touches in charaterisation where you'd see a character calling himself "Ox Ford" and knew immediately which brand of arrogant, insufferable child-prodigy this guy represented and you'd be absolutely right. Why is there a girl who can turn into a lantern who's name is "Jackie O'Lantern"? Because she's the funniest teenager on the squad.
Shoutout to Maka Albarn for taking her education so seriously she decided to not get herself a fun name, and to Justin Law, who let's say, subverted expectations.
It also just makes total sense for their wacky and non-conforming headmaster to not give a shit about names, or birth names, or gender norms. Death said trans rights, yo.
#bonus points to death the kid who absolutely just kept the name he was given at birth#death was really horrible at naming things#no wonder he just handed that responsibility to the kids#soul eater#soul eater meta#worldbuilding#soul eater just embraced that people are just like that and that a lot of the weirdness in the setting#are characters making conscious aesthetic decisions#why was medusa never caught as a fake nurse despite not changing her name or appearance?#because there is a literal zombie on the teaching staff and it's not the person covered head to toe in bandages#the overwhelmed half-scythe-man having meltdowns in the hallway is the most normal guy here medusa didn't trigger anyone's weirdness radar#they just thought she was a lesbian#that's probably how stein caught her out anyway#shonen anime

Got thinking today about the first pieces of queer media I experienced and how formative they were for me when I didn't even know queerness was a thing. Double-whammy of super religious family raised in very religious community and then ending up slap bang in the middle of section 28 in the UK, where it was illegal to teach kids anything about queerness.
But it was there. It found me, even when I didn't know I was looking for it.
First up was the double-header of To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
It was 1996/7, I was in my mid-teens. I was having a sleepover at a friend's house and she asked me if I wanted to see drag queens. I didn't know what they were, so I said yes. My wee little mind was blown. Until that point, the only time I had seen anything like it had been as a joke, especially Pantomime Dames.
I know that now these films are very dated, but then? When the only other mainstream films with vaguely trans-ish characters were things like Silence of the Lambs and The Crying Game? Having some of the biggest stars of their respective countries playing sympathetic, fun, silly, loving, happy drag queens and trans characters was so staggeringly new and out of left field. I didn't even know what I was feeling but those films curled up in my chest for reasons I couldn't even understand then.
A few years later, doing my English studies and one of the assigned texts was a book called Trumpet by Jackie Kay. I had never heard of it, had no idea what it was about going in, and again, eyes wide open after it. A trans man who kept his whole life a secret from everyone but his wife, only outed after his death. It's beautiful and poignant and wrenching as his kid tries to unravel and understand their father and who he was.
It's been two decades and I've seen a lot of queer media since then, but those three pieces were the foundation of me figuring things out and realising what I had been told all along wasn't compulsory or necessarily even right. It showed me a glimpse of something else, that maybe all the parts of me that I had been chipping away at, trying to make them fit, didn't need to be chipped away at all.
Took a lot longer for me to put all the pieces together consciously. The trauma and self-hate will do that to you. But I got there :) I got there in the end and I can look in the mirror like Miss Vida and smile like she did.

New Year New Vent, and this one's coming in hot.
I genuinely do not understand the obsession behind Izzy, or why he amassed such a cult following out of all the characters in the show. There, I said it.
I am aware that this opinion is somewhat rhetorical. Because, the reason lies in the troublesome fandom trajectory of "let's form a cocoon around the shitty white man and make him the saddest, wettest, poorest little baby boy and turn a blind eye to characters of color and women," so I know there's explanation to be had there, but even still. So much of what people argue makes him so special can be found in so many other characters, and then some.
Wanting prosthetic or physical disability representation? Lucius is right there with his prosthetic finger. Jackie is right there with her fierce prosthetic hand. Ed is right there with his knee brace.
Older queer representation? Broadly gestures to basically every single character, most of which have much more solid and visible representation anyway.
An older man coming into himself and accepting parts of himself he had long been fighting with? Aggressively gestures to our two leads.
A character having to deal with their past and with subsequent trauma? Once again aggressively gesturing to our two leads, but also many other characters, too. Jim had an entire subplot dedicated to them and their trauma in Season One for crying out loud.
A pirate stepping away from the harsher and more violent nature of piracy? Ed is right there, and with a solid character arc at that.
A man dressing in drag? Wee John is right there (and I feel like his performance and look really got eclipsed for the song but that's a whole different rant).
Gender non-conformity, or trans representation? Jim is right there, and I believe one of the writers pointed out how many of Ed's arcs have trans/gnc symbolic ties (Don't even know where the aggressive insistence that Izzy is canonically trans even came from either, but again, whole different rant).
There is just so much goodness and representation to be found in so many characters. They are all so rich and developed and wonderful. In my opinion, that makes it so easy to feel seen and heard, as there are pieces of comfort and visibility to be found in such a wide scope. The show wants us to feel seen in that regard.
Yet, the focus lands on the angsty masc white man once more. I mean, really? Is fandom racism and prejudice really so rife? Again, rhetorical, but it just boggles my mind.
Also, all of this isn't to say that people can't make Izzy their favorite character. Just the "he's the main character" and "he's a victim and no one else" and equivalent behavior is just unfathomable to me. The bullying and the toxic insistence when there are so many other wonderful characters with wonderful arcs is absolutely unfathomable.
It would just be so fun and nice to appreciate him for the character he is, ie an antagonistic presence who is later shaped and swayed by his environment. Putting him in a jar and shaking him around makes sense (big thank you for this space), not whatever we've been left with.

re: love lies bleeding... i could be wrong but isn't there a difference between the type of steroids jackie was taking and testosterone? i assumed the increasing violence was due to steroid psychosis.
There mostly isn't! The main difference between "juicing"/bodybuilding steroid use and TRT or HRT is mostly just dose and frequency it is being taken. The brands might be different between medical vs recreational use, and some people take compounds that include things like growth hormone or other stuff, but "Anabolic steroid" doesn't mean "bad and used for bodybuilding", it means "hormone that mimics androgens". Link for WebMD overview of anabolic steroids
This is one of the reasons why trans men face issues when wanting to compete in "natural" strength/bodybuilding sports (not to mention, of course, the exclusion of trans women). USA Powerlifting does not specifically ban trans men from competing in the male division, but it bans any and all TRT, with no medical exemption available to anyone, which is effectively the same as banning both trans and cis men with medical conditions that require them to be taking testosterone.
Testosterone replacement therapy's (TRT) goal is to maintain the body's testosterone within a defined medical range. Cis and trans people of all kinds can be prescribed TRT for various medical reasons (post-menopause, being trans, erectile dysfunction, etc). People who use steroids for bodybuilding are blowing right past that defined medical range -- an example is you may see a cis man on TRT with a dose of maybe 0.25mg/week on the low end with the "average" being around 100mg/week. The dose is raised and lowered to maintain the body's T levels within the healthy medical range/the individual's transition goals.
A man using T for a higher performance in strength/bodybuilding sports is likely to be on way, way higher doses, 200-400mg/week or more, and may be taking T in "cycles" specifically intended to promote muscle growth, versus being on it consistently. There are material health risks associated with these high doses but it's not inherently the substance they are using, it is just the dose.
A woman like Jackie is probably going to be on significantly LOWER dose, even for recreational bodybuilding, because women who engage in steroids for muscle growth are usually not looking for the other masculinization side effects of T, so will necessarily want to stay below the TRT levels typically used by both cis and trans men. I mean, this movie takes place in the 80's so they were probably not using modern medical science because it was the 80's, but the reality that a "juiced" woman would probably want to avoid the normal effects of the average T dose remains true because most women body builders regardless of time period are not looking to transition to a T dominant hormone system. link to reddit thread i found
Steroid psycosis does exist, and "roid range" is a known side effect of any kind of steroids -- including non-sex-hormone steroids like dexamethazone. Just go into a children's cancer ward and you will see that steroids will absolutely impact a person's emotional stability on like, a temporary basis. Go on any r/ftm forum and you will see some people having increased irritability as a result of their bodies adjusting to a different hormone system, with much rarer cases of significant emotional challenges. But my critique isn't necessarily to say that it is like, beyond the imagination/too unrealistic, because it's a horror movie and those are rarely realistic. Exaggeration is the name of the game there. Like I said in my original post, it's not that I hate the movie, I'm just THINKING about the movie and how this aspect of the plot landed badly, for me. In this day& age did we have to make the big tall muscle woman w high T also be a crazy violent killer. We exist in the context of all that came b--(im taken out by another sniper)
Anyway. I hope that answers your question now where is that large hook. I need to be dragged off stage immediately before I write another 1000 words on
#ask#anon#media blogging#to be doubly clear i dont hate the movie. just things to think about. im digesting the movie.#injection mention cw i think#anatomy#ish

Donât you hate when you turn your back for a minute at your dead-end copy job (sorry, dead-end desktop publishing job), and all of a sudden, one half of your sisterâs cool teen quartet along with your horndog conspiracist friend are holding paper products (er, helping with a big job) and flapping their lips about the latterâs fairly new unplanned pregnancy?
It was just a coincidence that Goat swung by to visit Alex at Repro Manâs shortly after Fruity and Matt came in, and even though they had heard through Chaka (who, naturally, knew because of Alex) that the older man was in a âdelicateâ condition, it was their first time bumping into him in person since.
Hearing Fruityâs compliments, Matt turned around from the poster in his hands. âOh, hey, Goat,â he greeted him.
âHey, Matt, whatâs up?â Â
âProbably nothing compared to whatâs up with you, right?â
âYeah, Iâve been busy.â Goat coughed.
âYeah, you know, my cousin just had a baby a couple months ago,â Matt offered up. âIâm not gonna lie, it wasnât easy for her, but she said it was totally worth it. You know, yin and yang and all that.â
âHey, I donât think this situation calls for the poetry.â Fruity made a disapproving smacking sound with his lips. Â âMan, canât you just leave this beautiful thing be?â Goat smirked.
âChill out, alright?â said Matt, gingerly transferring a large stack of paper from Fruityâs hands to his own and placing it by the copier. âI was just going to ask how heâs taking it.â
âWell,â Goat said emphatically. âDo you want the miracle-of-life Demi Moore Vanity Fair edition, or the cold unabridged truth?â His words conjured an image of himself, au naturel and assuming the pose of the actress, which subsequently splintered and fell away like a broken pane of glass.
âI wouldnât expect anything less than the second one from you.â Matt smiled.
âOh, itâs fuckinâ brutal,â he asserted. âImagine the most head-splitting zombifying hangover, with none of the fun from the night before.â
Fruity raised his eyebrows. âNone?â
âOooh, roughâŚâ Matt mumbled sympathetically.
âMy back hurts all time. Everythingâs sweaty. Plus, on top of that, I canât really see my junk. It makes for a challenge when womenâs volleyball is on and I wanna ââ
âAlright, alrightâŚâ Mattâs laugh cut the description of his plight short. âI think we get the picture.â
âHey, weâre all guys here!â grinned Fruity, giving an open-palmed shrug.
âI will say, itâs not a total loss,â Goat went on. âI seem to have unlocked a brand-new level of savoring lifeâs pleasures.â
âOh, because you had trouble with that before, right?â teased Matt.
âEh, I donât know, but this baby must love Ring-Dings and Bud Light.â
âHey, and at least the ladies eat up this stuff,â Fruity said. âYou know, feeling the baby kick and comparing its size to a dill pickle and crap. They must be all over you.â
âUh, yeah, yeah, right on.â Goat looked past him, letting out a sigh. âIs there a bathroom in this place? I gotta take a leak.â
âYeah, right over by the back wall,â said Matt.
âI wonât keep you,â Fruity added, motioning in the general direction of the door.
So anyway, when it comes to Fruityâs comment re: the âfairer sexâ and pregnancy, I would be remiss not to mention the kindred spirit Goat hit it off with, the childâs second parent (seen in my Downtown posts of yesteryear. However, I did change her name for some reason. Friendship ended with âJackieâ, âKaseyâ is my best friend now). *clears my throat and shuffles flashcards* There came a point of awareness that despite their similarities, they were at really different life stages (Goat had been doing his own thing for years, but Kasey, a trans woman who was Goatâs age, had been living as herself for a fraction of that and was relishing her freedom) and while Goat initially hadnât changed his lifestyle a bit to accommodate the pregnancy, she didnât want to live like him forever and begrudged his seeming lack of trying. Words were exchanged, and the pair went their separate ways. Not to worry â they would soon rekindle, and both put forth effort to be healthier (in Goatâs case, he was mostly propelled by the knowledge of his physical condition; in Kaseyâs, she was inspired to show a sort of solidarity with him, plus she would soon be a parent as well, despite not physically being pregnant).  But given their respective issues, neither swayed the other in a positive direction, and they soon reached the disappointing yet amicable conclusion that they were perhaps too alike to remain close. And in the midst of that, they just knew neither of them were cut out to raise children (what were we thinking?) â so wish granted for a lucky adoptive parent(s). But I digress⌠I wonder if some of this diverted him from regaling Fruity and Matt with salacious tales when given the opportunity.
Also, by the way? Even though Fruity was being facetious in my picture and Goat wouldnât name his offspring after himself, he and the aforementioned second parent did discover at an ultrasound (the first and only; Goat completely forgot about an appointment scheduled earlier in the pregnancy đ) that the fetus was male. Goat after he and Kasey exchanged an overwhelmed glance and muttered fragmented agreeable noises upon being asked if they were interested in finding out the babyâs sex today: âRock on! Built-in apprentice and wingman, here I comeâŚâ *medical technician politely chuckling intensifies*

how fucking cool is it that âbonafaciaâ seems to truly âdieâ as soon as jackie says âadios, bonafaciaâ and burns the wanted poster with her cigar? obviously, itâs meant to show jackieâs satisfaction with fulfilling revenge but itâs also at the point when jimâs truth is revealed and is no longer in hiding. the next episode plays out with them struggling to know who they are and they end up deciding that they like who theyâve found themselves to be with the crew of the revenge, and so they directs them to âjust keep calling me jim.â
nana saw jimâs âdivine purposeâ as bonafaciaâs, hence the deadnaming despite using correct pronouns and couldnât (or wouldnât) let it go. it shows how well meaning nana is but still gets it really fucking wrong due to her own stubbornness. because of all of this, i think jim feels a bit hopeless up until they go find their tree. a big chunk of their life seems to be over and they seem a little lost. then olu comes and literally âfindsâ them, and they share their familyâs land with him. olu says he can be their family and it reignites that hope in them.
when they say ânanaâs right, i have to finish the job. not for her, for me,â it didnât make sense to me for them to refer to nana, cause, altho they care for people, they are not a people pleaser & clearly didnât do exactly what she wanted in the first place, so it makes more sense that theyâre referring to bonafacia.
alfeo de la vaca was bonafaciaâs kill, but, like olu says to stede: âwhen you kill, a part of you dies as well.â that act killed bonafacia in the crossfire and allowed jim the space to grow and become more of themself. this i think is a sign of their âgrowing up.â they killed the man that killed their father in front of them as a young child, almost out of a sort of childish, tunnel-visioned vengeance that was only exacerbated and manipulated by nana & her own anger. they now realize they arenât the only person impacted by the siete gallos, and that they have more sins to answer for than what they did to the jimenez family. you have to dismantle the entire system, not just a figurehead. (âgodâs not a fanâ)
nana looks sad when she asks olu âwhereâs bonafacia?â probably realizing her mistakes & knowing her last words to them were âyouâre such a disappointment.â it really drives the nail in the metaphorical coffin when olu responds with âgone,â because, really, bonafacia has been gone for a long time. he continues, saying, âthey said theyâre to finish the job.â i think thatâs when it finally hits nana that they arenât the same person anymore, hence the grief rather than joy/relief.
âsiento, mijo. la vida es dolorâ is more than a simple apology to oluâŚitâs an apology to both bonafacia AND jim: an apology for raising them the way she did, and the pain that caused them, & for inadvertently pushing them away when they needed her. she recognizes the strong connection between them and olu & trusts him to pass the message along.
we donât see jim kill anyone on screen throughout the season and jackie spares them by killing geraldo herself, then tells them to move on. they do decide to let go and, after weâve seen them pull back the bitter, protective layers of themself (like an orange) we see all the sweetness theyâve harbored inside that weâve only caught glimpses of before: going back to the revenge, back to olu, allowing themself to love him, whole heartedly agreeing to a talent show, etc.
i am so so excited to see how weâll get to see jims growth in s2 đ
(iâm sure a lot of this stuff was probably obvious to a lot of people, especially the trans/nb community, but itâs such fucking good characterization and i love it. iâm continually blown away by the insane subtle details they put into this show đ¤)

Hollow Grove - Entry #2
CW: Death Mention, Sleep Deprived MOD w/ Grammarly as Beta Reader
Note: Hollow Grove is part of @h0ll0w-gr0v3, I highly recommend following that account if you're here.
=+=+=+=+=
Trinity and Dakota huddled up into my torso, their breaths almost perfectly in sync. Waves of sunlight threaded in through the curtains. I woke up later than I meant to, with my phone ringing. I didn't recognize the number, and neither did Jackie. The only thing we recognized was the area code.
I pressed the phone up to my ear, "Hello?"
The voice on the other end startled me, "Uhm.. Hello! My name is Raven, I just wanted to say I understand your problems in a way." Who the hell was this? I need to stop giving my number out to random hunters. "You and your children are allowed at the national park called Hollow Grove anytime! Free of cost!"
The name of the park sounded familiar, "Hollow Grove, huh? I might've heard of it somewhereâŚwhat kind ofâŚwildlifeâŚdoes the park have?" Dancing around the topic of the paranormal, I questioned Raven.
"We have wolves, deer, birds, and definitely some squirrels! Also, many bugs around the place- I wouldn't mind giving you a tour if you'd like." Right, no sane person would admit if they had a monster on their doorstep. Glimpsing at some maps Jackie and I had strewn around the kitchen, I saw one with national parks. Sure enough, Hollow Grove was up there with a star beside it, indicating that other hunters had mentioned it before. I had let Raven know I'd drive over alone before hanging up.
"JACKIE! I'M GOING OUT! DON'T WAIT UP!" I hollered out to the kitchen as I rolled out of bed. My bag already had a notebook and a camera, and the map I had been using was sitting in the car. The kitchen smelled of coffee; I poured myself a cup. "I got a call from Hollow GroveâŚI'm driving out, you need to watch the kids." My tastebuds recoiled at the taste of the bitter coffee; we hadn't bought more creamer or sugar yet.
Jackie tilted her head. Her dog, a little red duck dog, trotted past and into the living room. "Hollow Grove? That park with all those deaths? Careful out there, I heard some weird shit's been going on out there."
I shrugged on my coat and opened the door, "Which is why I'm going."
The trans am rumbled to a stop, the smell of smoke amongst the trees thicker than the oatmeal Jackie was eating earlier. It almost caused me to get to coughing but seeing a park ranger stopped me. They were making me wish I didn't drop out of college for that sack-of-shit husband.
Hollow Grove was beautiful, with its towering trees and wolves. Raven always had birds landing on her head and shoulders. I wanted to see the infamous graveyard first; death always seemed to cause strange happenings. I could start there.
The cool October breeze whipped my hair around. I went to tie it back while Raven explained when the graveyard started. As we walked, the smell of smoke got worse. I choked back a cough; my eyes began to water. A bluejay landed on Raven's head, reminding me of a guy I knew in college. He and his friends were a bit younger than me, and I only knew them because one of them had a student film they were working on.
We continued talking, and then things started getting out of hand. I didn't realize anyone had snuck up on us, but two strangers butted in seeming cryptic. One of them was focused on Raven, tilting their head at them, letting a Cheshire cat-like grin take over their features. The other, I couldn't put my finger on. He seemed like an oddball (in a good way).
Despite the hiccup, Raven kept talking. Then I heard the elk-like call in the distance. DISC0RD? I didn't realize I said its name out loud, and Raven was familiar with the name. My neck popped as I whipped my head around (I had been trying to pop it all morning anyway), and I stared. Should I investigate? But I don't want to risk the kidsâŚ
I had left the park a couple of hours ago, telling Raven I was heading home. Truth be told, I was walking through one of the nearby neighborhoods, trying to find the chaos. One of the houses got loud, screaming and fighting. The pungent smell of smoke seared my nostrils, stronger here than at the park. I put my ear up to the door; something in there sounded demonic, and the aura of the property wasâŚevil.
I knocked.

Helen Joyce: Something that you may not have thought of is that there's a lot of people who can't move on on this. And because that's the people who've transitioned their own children.
So those people are going to be like you know the Japanese soldiers who were on Pacific Islands and didn't know the war was over. They've got to fight forever.
This is why, this is another reason why this is the worst, worst, worst social contagion that we ever have experienced. A lot of people have done the worst thing that you could do. Which is to harm their children irrevocably because of it. Those people will have to believe that they did the right thing for the rest of their lives, for their own sanity, and for their own self-respect. So they'll still be fighting.
And each one of those people destroys entire organizations and entire friendship groups. Like, I've lost count the number of times that somebody has said to me of a specific organization that has got turned upside down on this, oh the deputy director has a trans child, or you know, oh the journalist on that paper who does special investigations has a trans child, or whatever. The entire organization gets paralyzed by that one person, and it may not even be widely known at the organization that they've a trans child. But it will come out. Like people will have sort of said it quietly.
And now you can't talk truth in front of that person, and you know you can't. Because what you're saying is, you as a parent have done a truly, like a human rights abuse level of awful thing to your child. That cannot be fixed.
There are specific individuals who are really actively against women's rights here, and it's not known why they are, but I happen to know through the back channels that it's because they've transed their child.
And so those people will do anything for the entire rest of their lives to destroy me and people like me. Because people like me are a standing reproach to them. I don't want to be. I'm not talking directly to them, I don't spend my time bitching about them. But the fact is that just simply by saying, we will never accept natal males in women's spaces, well it's their son that we're talking about, and they've told their son that he can get himself sterilized and destroy his sexual function, and women will accept him as a woman. And if we don't, there's no way back for them and their child.
They've sold their child a bill of goods that they can't deliver on. And I'm the one who has to be bullied, to try to force me to deliver on it. So those people are going to be the people who will keep this bloody movement going, I'm sorry to say. Because they've everything to lose. And it's a fight to the death as far as they're concerned.

Completely explains Susie Green, former CEO of the discredited organization Mermaids, who drugged her own son, leading eventually to taking him out of country to get illegally butchered in Thailand because her husband was afraid he was gay.
https://unherd.com/2022/11/mermaids-useful-idiots/
âAs a toddler, Jackie always headed for the dolls in toy shops.â And if a four-year-old looking at dolls werenât evidence enough that this child should be committed to a lifetime of medicalisation, Green added, â[Jackie] loathed having her hair cut.â Green put Jack â as he was then known â on puberty-blockers and flew him to Thailand for a sex change operation when he was 16, making him the youngest person in the world to undergo that surgery. [..] In her Tedx talk, Green says that as soon as her baby boy âgot mobileâ â ie, learned to crawl â âhe was gravitating to things that you would think are stereotypically femaleâ. Like what, tampons? Was her one-year-old trying to book an appointment for a cervical smear test? Nope, âthe Polly Pocket and My Little Ponyâ, she says, and then quickly adds âthat was fine â but not for Dadâ. Greenâs then husband disapproved of his son playing with My Little Pony toys and therefore banned them from the house. [..] As Green recounts in her talk, âWhat I had come to the conclusion, up until she was about two, was that I had a very sensitive, quite effeminate little boy who was probably gay.â So when four-year-old Jack told her he should be a girl, Green felt âit explained so many thingsâ.
A homophobic father is one thing - plenty of gay kids have survived that, and some have even had an anti-gay parent come around later.
But a mother who responds to this by mutilating her own child is already mentally ill and ultimately far more dangerous than the father ever was.
There is no coming back from this, for either Jack or Susie. The only way to not mentally self-destruct is to double, triple, quadruple-down, to deny the blatant atrocity you've committed and insist that it's good and righteous, and everyone else needs to play along with that delusion.

Over 100 orgs call on government to count all of us in census
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/over-100-orgs-call-on-government-to-count-all-of-us-in-census/
Over 100 orgs call on government to count all of us in census
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is being asked to allow the Australian Bureau of Statistics to âdo its jobâ and ask all three new questions on gender, variations of sex characteristics and sexual orientation in the next census.
The federal government caused national outrage last week after dumping three new questions on sexuality, gender, and intersex status from the next census.
On Friday, the Prime Minister said the government would allow one of the questions, on sexual orientation only.
But the government still hasnât committed to the other two questions, to count Australiaâs transgender and intersex populations.
Explanations from government ministers, including that the questions were scrapped to avoid a âdivisiveâ debate and that the questions were too complex, caused further anger and backlash.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese suggested the proposed questions werenât âappropriateâ.
âQuite clearly, there should be common-sense questions asked that are quite easily understood,â he said, per ABC News.
âThe ABS was going to go out and test some questions on Monday [last week]. Thatâs why we put a pause on that so that we could consider appropriate questions easily understood by people when they get the census.â
On Sunday, Albanese refused to commit to supporting all three of the questions. He said the government would âwork withâ the ABS on the issue.
âEnd the uncertaintyâ and include all three questions
Now, LGBTIQ+ Health Australia and over 100 peak bodies, community organisations and health experts have signed a joint statement on the census.
It calls on the government to âend the current uncertainty and unhelpful discourseâ and give the green light to all three questions in the next national survey.
âThese questions are not complicated. [They] are already being used in some government and non-government studies and data sets,â the statement reads.
âThe absence of relevant Census data for LGBTIQ+ populations means that health policy, programs and services cannot be accurately targeted. This leads to increased healthcare costs and inefficient use of public resources.â
To address this, all three questions â not just sexual orientation â are necessary for the next census, the joint statement says.
âIn the same way that asking a gender question will not collect information on sexual orientation and vice versa it is not possible to collect information on people with innate variations of sex characteristics through a question on gender or sexual orientation,â it reads.
âWe ask all MPs to set aside political differences and focus on prioritising health and wellbeing above all else.
âData is imperative for evidence-based policy, leading to better outcomes for all Australians.â
Read the joint statement in full here.
LGBTIQ+ Health Australia CEO Nicky Bath said signatories span mental health, suicide prevention, social services, disability, ageing and aged care, sexual, family and domestic violence, human rights, and research.
âThis demonstrates the broad cross-sectoral support and need for collecting this data,â she said.
Separately, seventy LGBTQIA+ organisations have also signed a statement by Equality Australia. It also calls on the next census to count all LGBTIQ+ Australians in the census, which is the most comprehensive snapshot of Australia.

PM slammed for exclusion of trans and intersex Aussies
LGBTQIA+ advocates called out the federal government for âpicking and choosingâ which queer Aussies to count in the census.
Trans Justice Project director Jackie Turner said removing the gender question broke a Labor party promise.
âThe government needs to re-commit to their own party platform and support these common-sense changes,â Jackie said.
Jackie Turner said the decision sends a message that âour communities, our families, and our friends donât count.â
Transcend CEO Jeremy Wiggins said trans, gender diverse and non-binary Australians are âsystematically erased in too many areas of our lives already.â
âWe face disproportionately poor health outcomes as a result. We exist across tens of thousands of households across Australia,â Jeremy said.
âIf the census does not accurately capture our identities, then the data will be extremely poor. It will lead to years of ongoing health and policy failures for our communities.â
Intersex advocate Tony Briffa said the census must count Australians with innate variations of sex characteristics too.
âGovernments need reliable data to make decisions about the delivery of vital health and community services,â Tony said.
âAnd yet the census doesnât capture even the most basic information about how many people in Australia are born with biological variations of sex characteristics.
âThis impacts policy and service delivery on everything from health, family support and participation in sport.â

big ol' list of jackie headcanons
@jselorekeeper's call for ego hcs has now made me wanna just... dump all my jackie hcs into a post. obviously, y'know, pre note, these are personal headcanons that i have for jackie. honestly this is just my fanon interpretation of him in general.
he's trans (trans man, he/him) and autistic, and his special interests are robotics and superhero comics (mostly marvel, he's slowly starting to dabble in dc as well)
speaking of marvel, he had a major crush on spiderman growing up (still does in terms of the adult iterations)
he has a german shepherd puppy named grimlock, named after one of his favorite transformers from the 1984 show (a personal favorite show of his)
his super hero identity "jackieboy man" is actually a herosona that he made as a kid! the video of jackieboy man that we've got, where he's in a red full body and cape and all that? yeah, that was the herosona. obviously now that he's an adult the suit looks much better, but he kept the name because... he honestly couldn't think of anything better
he taught himself how to play the drums when he was a young adult just for the fuck of it
as mentioned in the ask i sent to the lore keeper, jackie got his powers (super strength) from a group of scientists that had kidnapped and experimented on him when he was a teen to create a super weapon of sorts. it was extremely painful, and traumatizing for him. honestly the only reason he escaped (that i didn't originally mention cuz it was... a bit much, so warning for death) was because his body and mind just had enough, and with a huge burst of strength he broke out, killing quite a few in the process. afterwards his brain entirely repressed it, with the memories only appearing as nightmares. he only remembers now because marvin unlocked those memories when he tried figuring out why jackie was having the same nightmare since he was a teen. and because of all of this he's now terrified of getting any sort of injections (needles in general make him nervous but so long as he's not getting the injection he can stand to be around them).
on a brighter note, tattoos!! he's only got a couple, a trans flag on his right peck, and spiderman's logo on his left bicep. he might get another one but who knows, tattoos aren't his biggest thing (obviously he likes them, but he's not looking to go all out like chase)
his lip rings were a major impulse decision. they aren't really a thing for him, but this one time his brain said "get lip rings" and he went for it.
he's built his own little septiceye sam droid that acts as a camera of sorts, that he uses when out on lookouts and stuff, with a programmed personality to boot. its optic nerve even doubles as a laser! he also uses it whenever bing has parts that break down, sam can scan bing to help jackie identify the problem and fix it easier.
oh god, the dad jokes. i mean, he is a dad (yes i gave him (and marvin cuz marvelsepticeye my beloved) two fankids), but the amount of dad jokes he makes is enough to make a teenager groan and roll their eyes out of their skull. dad jokes and quick one liners are his specialty.
might be surprising but he's a huge fan of drawing, and has a realism style. although his sketchbook is 90% marvin drawings-
as a kid his preferred way of communicating important things with his parents was via slideshow presentation. i'm not joking, something about laying out everything he needed to say in a neat format always helped him when he got anxious about talking to them. it was actually how he came out to his parents as trans.
that's all i have for now but i can guarantee i will be adding more to this list as i come up with them

Donolinc/Cringe!AU pt. 2
Okay if you're confused please refer to my main trans headcanon post here and the introduction to this au here.
Once again I'll give the same CW as the last post: if you don't wanna see any references to trans male pregnancy please blacklist the terms "mpreg" and "tmpreg", similar content to whats in Mafia 3 normally like violence, bigotry of the 1960's, war, etc.
General disclaimer: I'm not that good at drawing babies/young children. Pls forgive me TwT
(Some of these pictures are older than others)
Danielle Clay was born on Sept 1st 1969. Everyone calls her "Dani" for short. Her biological parents are Lincoln Clay and John Donovan, she has Lincoln's last name because it felt right.
She shows some signs of having ADHD in her childhood and her parent's quirks definitely rubbed off on her, like poking around things she shouldn't but also going head first into "scary" things.
Lincoln is so happy to be a dad since he lost his own family, and can be very over protective at times but that doesn't really show up until she's in her pre-teens and onward. Like I said in the last post, John was just happy he could keep this one, it takes a lot of adjusting to this new life, he still does what he normally does but cause he's at Sammy's all the time, he spends the most time with Dani before she eventually goes to school.
He's definitely more in charge with dressing her and had to learn how to do her hair, which was awkward at first with the whole situation. He may not be an ideal parent but he definitely loves and cares for her a lot. Just is pretty loose with swear words in front of her.
Since she does get into things a lot, she has to be kept away from loose papers and any potentially dangerous things laying around. She has ruined the vibe of a meeting at Sammy's where Lincoln invited his underbosses in the bar. Donovan, still keeping out of their line of sight, has quickly snatched Dani away from the bar area and took her back to the living space, but thats how the underbosses saw Lincoln's kid for the first time. Father James comes around more often just to check up on the kid and sometimes comes at Lincoln's request. He tries to keep his mouth shut about his opinions on Donovan's parenting, but Lincoln knows exactly what he's thinking.
Because John is still, well, John, he does complain a lot and projects his own distaste of things onto Dani, like hating the weather, going into the swamps, hating hippies, etc. Dani handles the weather pretty well like Lincoln, and as for hippies, Lincoln's taken her to LaVeau's compound where she interacted with M.J and his friends, so she ends up liking being around people like that, she came home with a flower crown and Lincoln had to answer a lot of questions. When it comes to swamps, once Dani's a teenager she eventually goes out into the Bayou Fantom a lot with her friends. Lincoln also took her to gator feedings before and she loves them.
She does eventually meet Marshall and Jackie when she's young. Marshall gives John a hard time a lot, occasionally saying some off color things about John as a "joke", and once Dani can talk, she'll even say "MY DAD IS NOT A MOM >:O" which surprised Marshall but he stops those kind of jokes for now. As for Jackie, despite her and John not being that close, since she does know his history and keeps tabs on Jesse, she's just happy to see things seemed to have worked out.
During all this, in between taking care of Dani, John was still working on his side project and was zeroing in on someone that was actually nearby. He was still fixated on the JFK conspiracy, and from old papers he found linking the Marcano's to local politicians, he started setting up a meeting to go to Baton Rouge, since many folks where still talking about Lincoln's crime spree and how he seemed to be untouched by the law for now. It was big news, and John was pulling some strings to go to a hearing on "Lincoln Clay's behalf". August 25th, 1971, Donovan went to a senate hearing about Lincoln's crime spree and meeting face to face with Senator Blake. Everything was recorded live. Everything. Danielle was nearly 2 years old at this time. The aftermath lead to John leaving the state and hiding for a few months away from the authorities and eventually they lost his scent after a few months
Of course, a serious crime such as assassinating a state senator will mean he's never NOT safe, but after a few months skipping around in different states, changing out cars and his appearance, he did eventually finally get back to New Bordeaux, after leaving Lincoln and Dani on their own for a few months, he missed her 2nd birthday and Lincoln swore he was about to punch him as soon as he got back, but he couldn't. He just got really emotional and made fun of John for having a more unkempt appearance.
In a way, as the new crime lord of New Bordeaux, and making sure the right people stay paid, Lincoln is basically untouchable, sure he has enemies, but law enforcement is in his pocket, he's got people to take care of things, etc. Sammy's becomes somewhat of a safe haven. Donovan can chill out there and not really worry about getting caught for his Live TV stunt, and he content with just leaving it there to make the people he's targeting paranoid. Not sure how he feels about being stuck in New Bordeaux though, but it's a good setup for now. Being around Lincoln means guaranteed immunity, also of course, happy to be near his kid again. Because Lincoln got emotional, Dani needed to be babysat for awhile (probably by Nicki cause she's trusted), and he really wanted to see if somehow he can use John being trans as some kind of loophole so they can legally tie the knot, he's sure he can talk to and bribe the right people but John isn't sure how he feels about it just yet, he just knows Lincoln's very clingy right now and lets him get his feelings out, ofc he missed him too.
Once again, yes I'm planning on adding more. Also I just wanna say, while I love this ship, the only thing that REALLY sucks about it is the age gap. They're both adults that seem to be on equal ground, but despite not revealing John's age, he has to be at most 35, which makes him about 12 years older than Lincoln. Which is eeehhhh....ehhhh.... really clinging on the fact they're both grown and seem to look at each other as equals. So whatever.

I started watching the new star trek show, and I can't stop thinking about this moment. She's talking about being an outcast because of her species, and the metaphor is THICK, but a sad reminder of how acceptance usually occurs.
Inclusiveness is not just for the outstanding members of society to appreciate. You don't need to be the Jackie Robinson of your community to be worthwhile. I love that someone said this out loud in a pretty mainstream piece of media, and I hope it is heard.
All people deserve to exist. Full stop. It doesn't matter if you're exemplary in your professional career, it doesn't matter if you are unemployed. It doesn't matter if you are queer, it doesn't matter if you are a librarian. Accept people as people. We all are entitled to human rights no matter what.
cw: racism, transphobia, homophobia, kind of long
The reason I can't stop thinking about this is mostly because I feel like it's a step ahead of the current cultural discussion around this type of issue. It's not about generic acceptance, it's about acceptance as the default; the underlying basic assumption that you could be a mean spirited asshole, and you would still deserve your rights. Not just have your rights, but intrinsically deserve them.
I grew up in a poor rural community, and when I was a thirteen year old kid I had exactly the shitty stereotyped beliefs you would imagine from that background. I would have heard something like this and only been able to apply it very narrowly to the exact situation on screen. I had to learn to question things, to apply critical thinking, and I had to expand my knowledge of what the world is and what's in it before I could leave those things behind.
Somewhere out there right now there are thirteen year olds learning infamous black crime statistics and initiating their road into the alt right. They lack the understanding that crime is more correlated with economic factors than racial ones. They lack the contextualization to know that crime statistics are based off enforcement of laws not the actual performance of crime. When you put those two together it shows the racist elements of maintaining the status quo.
The most obvious parallel though in this little speech currently is the bullshit "culture war" currently being waged against trans people. Let me be clear. Trans rights are human rights, and all trans people need the same protections and rights as everyone else. Not just the "good ones" which is inherently a demeaning and aggressive way to refer to someone as part of a group.
Anyway, I'll go back to my usual shit posting and occasional unionizing rants now. But I needed to rant about this, even if it was just to the void of my blog.
