Batman: The Knight is good but in my heart I know that Bruce Wayne was all of about 14 years old when he went off on his world training adventure.
Because if Bruce was running around chasing dangerous and morally dubious people before his voice even dropped, begging them to teach him, it makes a lot more sense why he’d see a grieving, angry little Dick Grayson years later and think yes, the ethical and normal thing to do here is to teach the boy to fight myself and give him his own costume.

PW:AA Spoilers (1-4)!
one of my favorite things about miles edgeworth is how profoundly human he is. we're led to believe he's abandoned all morals leading up to 1-3. then, his interference gets your client a not guilty verdict and you start thinking there's some good left in him. come 1-4, his facade slips and you glimpse upon how caring he truly is, what with him trying to keep phoenix out of dl-6 (and, as a consequence, away from defending him) + paying maya's bail after she's held in contempt of court.
he subverts every expectation you have about someone who falls under his character archetype. i was especially moved by his dialogue in the detention center.
exhibit A:
Phoenix: Can I ask you about the murder? Edgeworth: Wright. I'll ask you again, just leave me alone. Phoenix: ... Edgeworth: Please try to understand. I'm not doing this to prove I'm tough, or because I look down on you. I just don't want you anywhere near this case. Understand?
exhibit B:
Phoenix: Edgeworth? Edgeworth: It's only been a matter of hours since you last visited. Yet you've made incredible progress in your investigation. I'll admit it, I'm impressed, Wright. You were always single-minded in your work, though. Once you start on something, you always see it through, don't you? Phoenix: About the "DL-6 Incident"... Edgeworth: Right... DL-6. I didn't want you to find out about it. That is why I refused your offer to defend me. I'm sorry if it sounded like I thought you weren't up to the job. I just wanted to keep you away from DL-6.
he's quick to reassure phoenix that this isn't about pride or faith in phoenix's capabilities, though he'd used petty insults to ward phoenix off earlier.
i'm of the (unpopular?) opinion that of phoenix and edgeworth, edgeworth is a far warmer person. it's why i can't quite buy yamazaki's edgeworth in most cases, but that's a topic for a different post i already have drafted.
this also isn't meant to undermine the gravity of edgeworth's mistakes as the "demon prosecutor". it's very likely he put away innocents while burying his past. i do strongly believe the first game (and every game in the first trilogy, really) rounds the characters in a way the second trilogy often couldn't, though, and it's that charm that makes the first trilogy feel timeless.

Garth is really one of the only characters ever. He has suffered immensely due to people thinking his eye color was a curse. He was scared of schools of fish until Aquaman got him past his fear and then adopted him. He's had amnesia more than once. He once got killed by a group of beautiful women against a rock and then got taken in by Aquamans dad and taught magic for the equivalent of 5 years. He kissed a girl and immediately swam away from her because he was too awkward and sad over his girlfriends death. Aforementioned both girls have come back to haunt him and also try to kill him. He didn't have a name until he was in the teen titans, he was just aqualad. He has amazing diplomacy skills. He can shoot magic from his eyes. He sometimes sleeps in the teen titans dock completely naked. He named his child after a city. Said child is so inconsistent with gender that comics from different eras pick different genders for them. He cares so deeply about his friends that when he retires he has a ton of pictures of them together and his granddaughter is named after Donna. He has at least 4 different versions of his backstory (thanks DC). He is somehow very relaxed when tortured in space. He's afraid of going into space (related to the prior point). He had to be the one to make himself and Aquaman a home and Aquaman thought he was going to kill him during this. He's been mind controlled multiple times. He's kind of bisexual with it. His costume for years was made partially from bedsheets that he took to cover himself when his girlfriend and the lady that was part of the group of people who killed him that one time were arguing and he wanted no part in it. He has so much trauma that he is scared to get near people because everyone he loves dies. He has such a massive heart and is easily one of the kindest members of the titans. When attending a funeral, he just wore a suit jacket over top his costume because why would he have a suit? He dehydrates super easy on land and one time, Aquaman milked a cow straight into his mouth to make sure he wouldn't dehydrate. He has a near encyclopedic knowledge of fish. His father loves him so much.

so im on s5 of miraculous and i keep thinking about cat noirs whole “kept at a distance” arc bc it’s genuinely really interesting but gets so wasted by always winding up with him basically validating ladybugs nonsensical decisions and treatment—the same treatment that we were already shown upset him enough to destroy public properly about it. the most consistent reason LB ever gives cat about why he can’t be fully trusted or relied on is that he’s too much of a liability for their partnership to work—either because he’s too reckless, too in love with her, or his cataclysm would be too dangerous to use.
whatever it is, the baseline is that she thinks he’s a liability, and obviously that’s like salt in the wound for cat since he genuinely loves her and enjoys being partners with her, but it’s also just sad to see him continue to respect her decision and act like it isn’t a problem for him when he’s literally upset enough to physically lash out and use his powers to do so. and I know a lot of it can probably be explained by ladybug’s experience in the cat blanc timeline, but 1) she starts holding him at a distance way before that even happens, 2) she’s actively making it worse by not telling cat noir about cat blanc and why she thinks she has to exclude him for his own safety, and 3) SHE SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM ABOUT CAT BLANC TO BEGIN WITH BECAUSE IT’S LITERALLY A WORLD ENDING SITUATION INVOLVING HIM DIRECTLY‼️‼️‼️‼️
instead she just allows him think he’s unwanted and unnecessary, calls the shots on how he should feel about “having more free time” and ironically makes him even more susceptible to being Akumatized because of it. ladybug might not be aware that cat is adrien and has a terrible home life he actively uses his miraculous to escape from, but she’s playing right into all the key aspects that adrien resents from his father; she decides what he wants without considering or asking him, she trusts him conditionally and still distances herself enough for him to just not know certain things. it’s done with good intentions, but it still clearly affects adrien very poorly, and it’s just such a frustrating glass-chewing miscommunication that only needlessly complicates the situation
don’t even get me started on Kuro Neko where ladybug falls head over heels for the changed version of her partner and narrowly avoiding her having to actually screw up and learn a lesson about accepting cat for who he actually is because catwalker is just “too perfect” for her to function—instead of being an obedient idealized version of her best friend who lets her be in control of everything (WHEN ADRIEN LITERALLY USES HIS DOUBLE LIFE TO HAVE THE CONTROL HE DOESN’T GET AT HOME).
theres so much potential for the base concept of the miraculous of destruction and its Kwami/holder being distrusted outliers among the rest of the Kwami/holders, but the magic system sucks and it kind of loses any chance when the other Kwamis are established to be catastrophic if they use their powers without a holder. and it gets even more confusing if you consider that Fu specifically chose adrien to hold that miraculous, but then encourages Marinette to keep her distance from him and barely acknowledges him as a hero in general. Like why did you even bother testing adrien for his worthiness or whatever if you obviously don’t think he’s worthy of knowing anything about you or the rest of the miraculous OR his best friend’s identity??? but you’re totally okay with her just giving them out to anyone in Paris who’s conveniently around and having her know their identity???? master fu when I catch you master fu
auugghhhfgg I don’t know the magic system thing could be its own separate post but likeeeeee I just think the miraculous of destruction whos constantly mistrusted for no reason and goes Kamehameha Krazy in another timeline is very special and could be treated so much better if the writers were good at their job and didn’t make every character’s sole purpose be validating ladybug/marinette even when she’s in the wrong

parents are funny the way they want you to be open and honest with them, supposedly, but when you are, it leads to some fucking confrontation that didn’t need to happen, and when that happens, it leads to something you weren’t ready to say coming out, then being coaxed out into a still very much controlled held-back version of describing your lifelong experience feeling shame for existing the way you do and not being “easy” or as good as like, your little sister, academically, or as capable of masking as anyone else, and THAT carefully worded recall of just the natural fucking feelings of growing up in a frankly abusive household, resulting in.. oh, sorry, YOUR FATHER crying as if he wasnt just trying to gaslight you into thinking he didnt tell you the other day to Improve Yourself As A Person (right before the conversation about his mother entering hospice so now guess who can’t fucking mourn without associating it with that!) and that he instead was saying Improve Your Situation
and then he like catches you like visibly dissociating, comments, you try and put it in very simple words what just happened (in the same manner you have pointed out every other little thing he does to invalidate your feelings, or as he’d put it, “your feelings” yes using air quotes) and he suddenly is a fucking Psychology Scholar And Didn’t Need You To Explain What The Defense Mechanism Even Was and oh then also admitting to doing harm in the past, saying he had apologized (wonder why i dont remember), your mother(actual psychology minor) getting all “i’m sorry you feel that way” and also after a long ass tangent about there being a difference between “shamed” and “ashamed” as if you didn’t mean the word you say, a thing you did make very clear, ONCE AGAIN FUCKING CRYING ABOUT YOU BEING OPEN AND HONEST FOR ONCE AND TELLING THEM THEY HURT YOU

love the fact people on the island are finally starting to take notice of charlie slimecicle and his trauma and possible decline
hate the fact it took charlie slimecicle’s trauma to become unignorable physically evident for people to finally take notice of it and start to talk to him and worry about him

Self admitted Miguel girlie here sure, but I’m just. honestly floored by takes that assume small inconsistencies between Miguel’s story about the collapsed dimension and how canon events operate = that he’s lying, and its not the story asking you to understand and accept a particular kind of lens to its stakes (what canon events represent and allow the characters to confront is more important than a scientific understanding to the pure mechanics) plus the fact that well.
Miguel doesn’t linger on these inconsistencies because he blames himself. Of course he Occam’s razor-s his own traumatic event and assumes his presence was inherently destructive, of course he’s unwilling to play mad scientist with billions of lives and see for sure what triggers will ensure dimensional collapse.
Even if blaming himself is the one of the worst, most isolating burdens, at least it’s an answer. It least it provides a path forward that will protect people, however stained that path is.
And if he’s wrong, not only does he have no answer for why he’s suffered, why an entire dimension suffered, even if it was never a moralised answer - but he has no certainty as to what to even do now. Every action that he took knowing the moral concession it asked of him as Spider-Man meant nothing, and he’s accidentally doomed people all over again.

2024 reads / storygraph
The Loudest Silence
YA contemporary
a newly Deaf-Hard of hearing girl moves across the country and starts a new school, struggling with navigating her disability and love for singing and lost friendships - determined to not make any new friends for the year she’s in Florida
and a boy struggling with family expectations and anxiety, after being made the fútbal captain even though he secretly ways to be on broadway, who quickly befriends her
bi & aroace-coded MCs
#The Loudest Silence#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#hm this was okay! it’s a sweet and light YA contemporary focusing on friendship and disability.#It’s a little cheesy; and I liked the immediate easy friendship (well; after a few false starts) and how welcoming Hayden's#friend group/family were. I like how they all jumped to learning/practicing ASL.#I liked how Casey was dealing with her newfound Deafness with a lot of positivity - the main frustrations being how other people treat her#but there’s also the underlying isolation and grief. At the same time it didn't go as deep as it could have with that?#The friendship is central to the story - but honestly I feel like Casey and Hayden’s relationship doesn’t develop past ‘they’re friends now#[continues other subplots] - it ends up being a bit telling not showing their friendship. And then she gets a love interest.#I feel like if you’re centering your book on being a platonic love story - rare in YA! - giving one a love interest kinda goes against#what’s supposed to be unique about it? Like it wasn’t overwhelming and I thought it was sweet actually; I just didn’t come here for that.#I always find it a little odd when YA contemporary books don’t explicitly name their aroace characters as aroace -#obviously I prefer an exploration of experiences to just using the word and nothing else; but in this genre; why not both?#considering various other identity labels are used and discussed there were various points where it felt like it was walking circles#around where it would be obvious to say “no I’m aroace” lmao?#And there’s a point where Casey mentions seeing an ace sticker on his guitar - the only reason it wasn’t an aroace sticker is bc#that would have ruined the minor subplot of her assuming he’s gay/dating his other friend. It felt like a slightly odd way to mention it?#but also I guess I appreciate it being evident throughout but also being a non-issue plot wise - while there’s a couple of moments#of people making romantic assumptions about them;for the most part it’s just treated normally for a boy & girl to be friends (as it should!#It does get points for mentioning people watching by conan grey LMAO (not that it really explores him feeling that way specifically;#but I mean same lol)#Overall plot-wise - there were kind of a lot of things going on and it petered out a bit? I wanted some more depth in some areas.#Also I feel like some of the references seemed out of date for current teens haha.#i do love the love for unusual pets (hairless cat and iguana)#aroace books#bisexual books

Mitron and Gaia's relationship is that of a father getting obsessively overprotective of his child because his wife died and the child is the last thing he has of her. The child also looks so much like his late wife that he just gets worse and worse until he ends up isolating the child from the world. The child ends up resenting his behaviour but also still loves him because that's her family and she gets it. She hates it but she gets it. And she ends up running away and finding somewhere better knowing he'll be left alone but knowing it's better this way. She can't help him so all she can do is leave. Do you get it. DO YOU GET IT

I’m not sure where this head-canon originated, but I heard about the idea of the song Branch was singing when Grandma was killed was him singing to his brothers, so they’d come back,,,, and that just kills me. Especially when you listen to the lyrics:
And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
I know the whole Brozone thing 99% probs wasn’t planned during the first movie but like???? Those lyrics fit so well to a kid desperately singing for his brothers to come back and make amends? Can someone please hug Baby Branch???? That’s literally so sad.
I'm a really big fan of the headcanons about Branch practicing because he thinks his brothers will come back. It's just one of those general headcanons that started popping into a lot of people's heads since it was such a natural conclusion to come to. We saw Branch immediately assume that the show's failure was his fault and the only person who tried to assure him that it wasn't was Floyd but even Floyd left in the end. It would only make sense for this small trolling who thought that he was responsible for his brothers leaving-- because he wasn't a good enough dancer, a good enough singer-- to desperately try to prove that he could be better if it meant that they'd come back. For that to have led to his Grandmother's death? That's just another layer of trauma and heartbreak to add to Branch's already terrorized character.
