Oh, unlike the sanctions and isolation regime and literal proxy wars that the US has been engaging in while doing things like outright assasinating this country's most prominent general on the basis that he allegedly armed terrorists just like the US has done for my entire lifetime, some other sort of thing

The Power of Effort Over Wishes: My Three Wishes to a Genie
Daily writing promptYou have three magic genie wishes, what are you asking for?View all responses If a genie offered me three wishes, my first instinct would be to reject them for myself. Photo by Boris Hamer on Pexels.com The reason is simple: I believe that what we receive without effort lacks the value and fulfilment of something we earn through our hard work, perseverance, and…

Yesterday my cousin (who's like a brother to me) sent me a snap of him in a mosque waiting for namaz. I was so happy that I shed tears of joy literally. Iv been making dua for my family and friends saying bring them closer to Allah and seeing things like that brings me joy and feeling that my duas are accepted. Subhanallah

The Temporary Joy
My brothers: Think about the consequences of al-ḏunūb (ie: sins); إِخْوَانِي: تَأَمَّلُوا عَوَاقِبَ الذُّنُوبِ، the enjoyment vanishes quickly, but al-ʿuyūb (ie: the shame) remains. تَفْنَى اللَّذَّةُ وَتَبْقَى الْعُيُوبُ، Beware of sins, it is an evil adventure. احْذَرُوا الْمَعَاصِيَ فَبِئْسَ الْمَطْلُوبُ، How terrible are its effects on the faces and al-qulūb (ie: hearts). مَا أَقْبَحَ آثَارَهَا فِي الْوُجُوهِ وَالْقُلُوبِ. i don’t know why people never mention it, especially people that used to be Christian, but almost all of the characteristics of angels in supernatural come from Islam. Being their own species, being beings of light, celestial wavelengths of intent, being genderless. Cas’s Boss Nora is explicitly named for it. All that’s kind of overshadowed and ignored in the name of feeling like you’re giving white American Christian’s the middle finger, in the fandom
let's GOOOOOOOOOOO ISLAM W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️🎉☪️

i stumbled across a Rumi quatrain on tumblr today and it reminded me to go looking for my favourites, so here's a few, all taken from Kulliyat-e Shams-e Tabrizi, with the caveat that i do not speak Farsi and I have read them all as translations only. more notes on translation at the end, but all of these are translated by Zara Houshmand, and taken from the archives of The Iranian.

and the note on translation: these are of course not the Coleman Barks translations, the most popular English translations. i think the orientalism and... de-Sufi-fying and de-Muslim-ifying of the Barks translations and a lot of English-language and Western perception of Rumi is much more discussed now (Jawid Mojaddedi, who is writing a translation of Rumi's multi-volume Masnavi, says, "The Rumi that people love is very beautiful in English, and the price you pay is to cut the culture and religion.") if you're interested, Persian Poetics has a great twitter thread about it and their website has text, audio, and video resources where they've talked about it. and this article from Ajam Media is a short read and an interesting comparison of a few different translations.
if you enjoy Zara Houshmand's translations, she has a book of translations of Rumi's quatrains, Moon and Sun. there's many translations of Rumi's works not by Barks, that prioritise different things: you can 100% find a translation that isn't Barks, and Rumi's work is. so beautiful and so much better when you are not reading whatever uhhh... interpretation Barks came up with.

The Joy of Egyptian Street Chefs
A woman recently asked me: What do you miss about the Czech Republic compared to Egypt? Well, I wanted to give it some deep thought, but ever since then, a completely different idea has been stuck in my mind, keeping me awake at night. That’s why I decided to write about it here. But honestly, I’d rephrase that question entirely. Not “What do I miss?” but “What do I love about Egypt?” Before I…

"من أحبك لشيء أبغضك لزواله"
I just had a literal lightbulb moment!!!!
In this lecture, sheikh Hamza Yusuf is teaching a Hadieth about Iman. The Hadieth says:
"ثلاث من كن فيه وجد بهن حلاوة الإيمان: أن يكون الله ورسوله أحب إليه مما سواهما، وأن يحب المرء لا يحبه إلا لله، وأن يكره أن يعود في الكفر بعد إذ أنقذه الله منه كما يكره أن يقذف في النار".
There are three qualities for which anyone who is characterised by them will relish the sweetness of faith: he to whom Allah and His Messenger are dearer than all else; he who loves a man for Allah's sake alone; and he who has as great an abhorrence of returning to unbelief after Allah has rescued him from it as he has of being cast into Hell.
I’ve always known that we as Muslims are always encouraged to love people only for the sake of Allah and how doing so earns us a higher status on the day of judgment, but I’ve NEVER truly understood why until now.
In his explanation of this Hadieth, he mentioned a phrase in Arabic: "من أحبك لشيء أبغضك لزواله" which means whoever loves you because of something will despise you when that something is gone. This is exactly why we are only supposed to love only for the sake of Allah. Because Allah has no beginning and no end and he is everlasting, therefore, you would never hate someone bc the reason never seizes to exist!!!! I MEAN MY GOD!!! to think that Allah has literally installed a safety mechanism to protect our hearts from the pain of emotional fluctuation and not only that but also braiding that in the core of our faith is the most loving and merciful act to ever exist. Like let’s take a few steps back for a second here and really let this sink in. Allah wants to take care of our hearts and have mercy on them to the point where he as declared that loving for his sake is an essential step to complete one’s faith and being able to actually taste its sweetness, why? So you won’t have your heart broken when the relationship that tied you to that person falls apart or what have you bc at the end of the day it was all for Allah and nothing that goes out for the sake of Allah is EVER lost.
