Hello, I am full of hope and hope that you will read my message with love and that you will enjoy abundant health and well-being.

I come to you with an appeal that is heavy on my heart and that I had never imagined.

I look at you from under the war and the constant bombing of us in all its forms that the human or animal soul cannot comprehend

I am Jehad Kassab , a lawyer and legal consultant from Gaza City - Palestine. I hold a bachelor’s degree in law and many legal experiences. I have been working in the legal profession for a long time and I had a good work , which have become meaningless before this world, to stop the machine of war and destruction that has befallen us ،I had a private law office after the Israeli planes completely destroyed it and everything in it, after I built it with all its beauty after many years of toil, and it is my only source of livelihood.

I have a beautiful family that loves life as you love it and lives it in all its details. My family consists of (my wife, a nurse, and my son Khaled, a year and a half old, who has not seen life in all its details and does not know what it is yet, and my second daughter is now 11 months her age as the age of this bad war.

Our house was completely destroyed at the beginning of the war on Gaza with everything, and we did not even take anything out of it, not even the clothes, in the hope that we would return to it before it was bombed by Israeli warplanes

We were briefly displaced to southern Gaza and stayed in tents until this moment. We lived and are still living the harshest types of genocide in the full sense of the word: displacement, destruction, coming out from under bombardment, pollution, epidemics, and the difficulty of sleeping due to the sound of planes and the bombing that did not leave for a single second. Has the world become desolate or are we not fit to improve? For life or what? We do not know Khaled who started pronouncing the word bombing, and I am afraid.

I am not begging you or listing all the details, because an entire newspaper will not be enough. Television screens and social networking sites are enough to tell you about us, and no matter how much you try to say, what we feel will not reach you because we do not wish anyone to live as we live.

We are victims of conflicts and conflicts. We love life as long as we can. We do not like any form of war. We want a future like the rest of humanity for ourselves and our children.

In this moment of despair, I reach out to you, not just as a stranger, but as a human being, connected by our common humanity and the belief that compassion knows no bounds. Your support, no matter how small, can make an immeasurable difference in the lives of those struggling to find hope amidst the rubble.

We desperately need your support to rebuild my family's life that was destroyed by the war on Gaza and there is literally nothing left ، provide us with a glimmer of hope for a better life after we were fine before October 7th last year. Okay, I didn't want to clog up the notes of someone else's post with something tonally different because that's rude, but. I Need to elaborate some more about no-kill vs open-intake shelters because I feel like some people still don't get it.

I'm gonna use an example here: My cat, Nepenthe, came from a small municipal open-intake shelter (I don't use the term "kill shelter" because I think it's obscene and cedes ground to ARA fuckwits for no reason) in an area with a NOTORIOUSLY awful stray cat problem.

She was on the euthanasia list. She was next in line on the euthanasia list.

They would never have been cruel or manipulative enough to say it that baldly, of course, but...I can read. Status was "at rsk", with two days' grace before ticking over into "extreme risk", the red zone. The ones who have had the most time, the most chance, if the shelter ever runs out of cage space.

I have gone the fuck off on people who hear that and immediately assume I will tolerate them bashing or insulting that shelter.

Because here's the thing about Penny. She is my baby, my darling, light of my life, and if I hadn't come along, euthanizing her would have been not only necessary but an ethical obligation.

She was neurotic, traumatized, and unpredictably aggressive--not "I'm bad at feline body language and ignoring her subtle back-off signals" unpredictable, I mean "we showed footage to a professional feline behaviorist and their immediate reaction was 'oh that is NOT normal'" unpredictable. "Actual legitimate psychological problems" unpredictable. The previous three times she had met with potential adopters, she attacked them unprovoked and had to be recaptured by a vet tech wearing a bite sleeve designed for aggressive dogs. She was the textbook definition of unadoptable.

She could not be fostered. There was absolutely no way she could live in a home with small children, or older children, or an elderly person with thin skin, or anyone who would get upset if they were clawed in the face without warning every few days.

Now, here's some math for you, keyboard warrior writing up a condescending screed about how there's Never Any Excuse for euthanizing a healthy animal:

The average length of stay in that shelter, for a healthy cat, was roughly two weeks. Which means, on average, assuming fast turnover, a single cage space in that shelter can save the lives of 24 cats every year.

Penny, when I met her, had been there for 43 days. A month and a half. Three times the average length of stay.

I love her. She has improved my life immeasurably and there is nothing I wouldn't do for her. Her life is not more valuable than the lives of the other 23 cats who might have been saved by the slot she was taking up. Euthanasia, if space had run out, would have been the only ethical option.

(Yes, obviously I DID show up and I DID choose her. But frankly? I was a grad student with a psychology degree, studying to be a therapist, living alone, no plans to have kids, a private room where she wouldn't have to interact with other people or animals, de-facto engaged to a professional animal behaviorist; I was ACTIVELY LOOKING for an edge-case project cat, and could calmly and intelligently articulate my understanding of the seriousness of her behavior and my plan for helping her. You can't count on that happening. I was a fucking unicorn.)

No-kill shelters have the INCREDIBLE luxury of deciding who to save. They have the luxury of having all the time in the world to wait. And in the meantime, what exactly do you think is happening to the other animals? The ones they DON'T pick? The ones there's no room for? Do you think they magically don't need to be surrendered anymore? Does Santa Claus find them a home, perhaps?

You can't reduce the life of an animal to math. Good, ethical no-kill shelters can be wonderful resources--either taking highly-adoptable animals from open-intake shelters to free up space as efficiently as possible, or else taking in behaviorally or medically complicated dogs who need more time to find their perfect match than open-intake shelters can give.

But if you're going to shit on open-intake shelters, you don't get to be a fucking coward about it. So here. Prove how much smarter you are.

You've run out of space. Every cage is full. The cat cannot be fostered. You've filled all your available foster slots with other cats, to buy her time. The "no-kill" shelters are full--they pulled the cats they thought they could save, and the scruffy, psychologically-unsound, adult black domestic shorthair with chronic herpes? Nobody wants her. In this world her unicorn's not coming.

She's had three times as long as every other cat here. You have given her every chance, wrote her a lovely bio, moved other cats to other shelters to keep space open so you didn't have to make this choice; but she mauled someone else today and there's a sweet, cuddly, highly-adoptable tabby with no problem behaviors being checked in right now. If you can't put that new cat somewhere it's going to be euthanized without even being given a chance, even though it is extremely adoptable and would likely find a new home within a week.

You don't have a magic wand. You can't wish a conveniently empty second shelter into existence. Every option has been exhausted.

Look me in the eye, and tell me which one dies.

“Well if it isn’t my favorite customer,” said Dean, waving you back and into one of the examination rooms. “What have you brought me today, heroine to all things cute and fluffy?”

“This is Champ,” you said setting the carry on down on the table. “At least that’s what we’re calling him down there.”

You opened up the door and put a treat down right outside. A pink little tongue tentatively stuck out and licked it before curling it into it’s mouth. You put a few more down to try and get the little guy to come out on his own, slowly but surely getting the malnourished pup onto the table.

“Hi Champ,” said Dean, bending down to give the scared dog a smile. Dean didn’t reach out to pet him, knowing how some of the rescue animals were when they were new. “He a biter?”

“No, sweetest little thing,” you said, holding a treat in your hand, Champ eating out of it. “Definitely underweight. He was covered in mats and scabs so we had to shave him down.”

Dean looked over the poor guy, taking a treat from you and letting him eat out of his hand as well before he placed a gentle touch on him, patting him softly.

“Probably has an infection. We’ll run some blood work and see about fixing this guy up,” said Dean. “What do you say? Want to get better and find a nice family Champ?”

The dog didn’t do anything really but did lick Dean’s finger. Dean chuckled and picked him up, taking him into the back.

Two Weeks Later

It was about six on Friday night as you checked on the guys and gals one last time before handing off to the night manager. There weren’t that many in your care at the moment which was always a good thing. You always wanted your animals to find good homes and not be stuck in this place for too long.

“Lovely, Y/N, I brought you somebody,” you heard Dean call from the front desk. You smiled as you walked out there, watching him undo the carry cage and pull out a happy and healthy looking puppy.

“Aw Champ! You look so much better buddy!” you said, the dog wagging his tail and acting like he should again. Dean handed him over to you and you looked him over, knowing Dean was a miracle worker with how he got these guys feeling good again.

“Not as good looking as you,” said Dean. You laughed and waved him back with you as you found a nice spot for Champ for the night. Dean went and found some dinner for him and gave you the run down on his history. He’d barely finished eating before he was plopping down on his bed, snoring happily. “He’s so getting adopted tomorrow.”

“Thanks for volunteering to help out in the morning. I really appreciate it,” you said. Dean smiled and took hold of your hand.

“It’s no problem. I like spending time with you. Speaking of which, I kind of made reservations tonight and was wondering if you’d like to go with me?” he asked.

“Your date cancel on you?” you asked.

“Just asked her,” he said with a wink. “Still waiting to see if I’m going to have to go solo.”

“What time is the reservation?” you asked, giving all the creatures one last look over as you heard the night manager come in.

“Eight. Down at Erickson’s,” said Dean.

“Fancy,” you said, walking out with Dean right on your tail. 

“So...yes?” he asked, a sliver of doubt underneath his hope.

“See you in two hours Dean. I bet you look real good in a suit,” you said, walking over to your car.

No Nigel for a while. I do not like him. He did a lot of things in his and Isaac's relationship that are textbook abusive partner behavior.

I think it is about time for Jay's restaurant to start up, and I would like that to actually become pretty successful/profitable. Mostly because I would like Sam and Jay to have a bit more disposable income to do things around the manor, and I know the B&B is unlikely to become super busy next season (unless the show is ending , which I really do not want).

The difference in treatment between the above ground ghosts and basement ghosts to be addressed. I know after season 3 that they aren't going to move them all up stairs. But it would be nice if Sam and Jay could like furbish the basement , and then more Basement ghosts than just Nancy got invited to come upstairs for games or discussion.

Just to be clear I still want Nancy to keep making her frequent visits up stairs and hang out with the man 8. I just also would not mind seeing Stuart or another nameless basement ghost standing or walking by in the background on the occasion.

Explore Pete's power more. He does not need to hop on a plane and go across the country or anything, but let him keep going out into town and having adventures. Also let him keep going on dates with other random ghosts outside of the house.

I know that Pete&Alberta will probably happen at some point in season 4. The thing is though while that ship was cute in season 1, the way the ship was handled in season 2 soured it like milk to me. Both characters need a lot of development, and separate explorations of what they want out of a relationship, before I can ship them again.

H-Money is still a couple I kinda like. I do not expect them to get back together in season 4 (Please not another season that is fully devoted to coupling up all the character), but I would like them to start scheming together again. Let them figure out how to interact together as friends, and build a stronger foundation to eventually, in season 5 maybe, try again.

I have heard people suggest that Pete's power could maybe be extend to getting the other ghosts through the barrier if they are like holding onto Pete's hand. I want this. Now I know Sass will want to visit a Pizza Hut, and Issac a dinosaur museum, but I would say the most important thing to do with that would be to take Thor and Flower over to the Farnsby manor to visit Bjorn and his girlfriend Judy. It would also be cool if there was a lesbian ghost living there they could set up Nancy with. Since Nisaac is on a "respite" and queer representation (preferably healthy queer representation) is important.

Everyone remember in season 2 when we learned about Flower's super protective, formally MIA, army vet brother : Rob. You remember how the show's staff said they would love to have Rob come to the B&B for a visit, and were already considering actors who could play him? I want this episode. Also if you cannot directly tell Rob his sister is a ghost on the property, then can Trevor or Alberta use their powers to help Flower send a message to Rob. To say that she still loves him. I cannot deal that both siblings spent like 50 years thinking the other hated them when neither did. It is to sad.

It would be cool if we could also have Ira visit once too. I know Flower did not love him like she did Michael or does Thor, but he was still someone who was a big part of her life for a while, and knowing her cannonly had a large impact on his. Maybe we find that while he has done charities in her memory, trauma over watching her be killed by a bear has also lead him to sponsor bear hunts or poaching. Flower is horrified. Then Sam and Jay have to spend his visit looking for a way to convince him that is not what Flower would have wanted.

Four standard episodes for each season are a Halloween episode, an episode where Bela visits, one where Stephanie wakes up, and one where Crash appears and is slightly relevant. I have no idea what to do for an episode with Crash, but for the others

-Home theater night for ghosts and guests on the night Stephanie wakes up, complete with all the drama of set up and shenanigans that going to the movies encores.

- Bela is broken up with Eric, she does not even like him. This time her and Jay's parents come with her for the visit. Bela wants all the latest gossip surrounding the ghosts, but they have to tip toe around the parents. Jay's dad does not fully support the B&B even without the knowledge that it is haunted, and Sam does not want to give her mother in law another reason to suspect that she might be crazy.

Owning back to the "Can Pete take the other ghosts off the property" theory, can Thomas Woodstone be a ghost who died visiting a neighbors property. We have no reason to see Elias again since he has decided to stay put in Hell. But Thomas reappearing could be interesting for both Hetty and Alberta. If he does show up though I want the twist to be that he is actually severally cognitively impaired (think Lenny from oMaM)... I mean the man was from an inbred family, played with lead based toys as a baby, had a cocaine addict mom, and a father who was a lot of things. He could not have been all there. Also address more on if Earl ever actually cared for any of the people he was two timing (again development that needs to happen to make Alberta want to go from dating an Earl to a Pete).

A Sasappis based episode that is not his death story. I feel like he needs at least one more episode exploring what his life alive was like, to be appropriately gutted when we learn about his secret death.

Actually maybe we can hold off on Sass's death and Hetty's ghost power until season 5. let's keep the element of mystery in the show for a little longer.

I know I said the last post was my last Mer Starbee buut babies

Labour started that morning right in the middle of Starscream having his breakfast. So for the next few hours he would hide away in his cave wincing slightly at each early contraction as he waited for the Staff to call Ratchet, and hopefully Bee too. However by the time the vet arrived Starscream was very weak and pale, blood creating a thick cloud in the medical tank were the mer was rushed into. Well shit.

Ratchet did his best to stabilize the mer despite the blood loss though Starscream's vitals weren't any better sitting on the border of dangerously low. All he could do was focus on the health of the pup and hope Starscream pulled through. The next few hours were long and tense as the labour slowly progressed, Ratchet only let out sight of relief when the finally slipped out after one hard push.

"There we are, welcome to the world little one" The man cooed as he helped clean the pup. Their face scrunched up letting out tiny chirps as they tried to push away with their tiny claws. Good they are strong and healthy.

However Starcream cried out in pain again causing the machines to loudly beep as the mer's vitals to dip. Ratchet barely had time to put the first pup down somewhere safe before scouping up a second pup. This pup was far more wiggly than their sibling already trying to go for their first swim in order to look for their parent. Once Ratchet had made sure the little rascal wasn't going to vanish from sight he put them down next to their sibling before returning his attention back onto Starscream who was still pushing.

"You're doing great, this should be the last one" The man reinsured already grabbing even more clean blankets this time better prepared for the third and finale little one. And just on time they arrived with a cry.

"A-are they all okay?" Starscream weakly spoke as he struggled to turn to look at his children. His eyes would water when he saw two of his pups clumsily crawl towards him. "My precious pearls" Carefully reaching out he scouped up his two eldest already getting to work licking and cleaning them despite being weak and exhausted.

"Wait, where is the third one?" The mer quickly scanned the room. He quickly calmed down when he saw a human baby tightly and neatly wrapped up in some blankets.

Ratchet carefully held the girl allowing Starscream to inspect his daughter with wide eyes. "Seems Bee will be taking care of one after all. Though this is the first time I've seen a set of triplets like this"

"She's perfect, just like her brothers and father" Starscream cooed as he placed a tiny lick on the small rosy cheek. "Make sure she stays safe out there" Though he knew Bumblebee would take good care of her, it didn't dull the pain in his heart by letting one of his babies go.

"You have my word" Ratchet gave a firm nod. Before he left with the baby he made sure Starscream and his pups were well and healthy leaving them in the care of the staff, making sure they followed their little made up story. Once this was all over and the little girl was returned back to her father, Ratchet sure had one hell of a story to tell Drift when he got back.

{I also think the two pups have electricity powers like eels and are called Zip and Zap. Their sister on the other hand is called Zara and yes Bee named her to match with her brothers. Hope you enjoyed}

Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 99 (Winterfest Eve with the Nesbitt-Gordons)

Winterfest Eve was always busy. School and businesses were still open, so despite mourning the loss of Boomer, Heather and Conrad went to work, Ash went to school, and Lavender spent the day at daycare.

Ash was excited about a school project Conrad had been helping him with. For Career Day, every student had to interview someone about their job, and Ash picked Conrad. "On the next career day, I'll do vets," he promised his mother in case she felt left out. "But everyone knows what vets do in Brindleton Bay, and the other kids think it's cool that Conrad fights crime."

Heather didn't feel left out. She was grateful her son loved and respected Conrad almost as much as she did. Conrad told Ash all the cool things about being a detective, leaving out the parts he knew weren't suited to a six-year-old's Career Day presentation.

Gord had started joining him at work again, which set his mind more at ease even as his search for Rafa remained fruitless. He trusted Gord's instincts, and if he was willing to leave the house, Ximena must not be close by. His partner, Zion Spangler, still hadn't found her, and George Brindleton was still in Sulani with his wife, so the case had all but ground to a halt with the coming holidays.

He didn't mind the slowdown, anxious as he was to solve the mystery of Rafa's disappearance. This was Lavender's first Winterfest; needless to say he had more important people on his mind.

"No hits from Rafa's old yearbooks from the few years he spent at San Myshuno High," reported one of his deputies. "No extracurriculars or indications who might've been someone he'd call a friend."

Conrad frowned. A potentially deluded part of him still hoped he could figure out who had Rafa - and where - before the end of winter, but every lead he chased to a dead end left him frustrated and exhausted. He was more than ready to put this chapter of his life behind him.

At the clinic, Heather ran into the always glamorous Bella Goth when she brought in her cat, Spatula, for an exam.

"How've you been, Mrs. Goth?"

"Just wonderful! Grimmie and I went on a date the other night and it was lovely!"

Heather smiled. "I'm happy for you! And how's your pet crow, Obsidian?"

Bella smiled, dancing a little to the music coming from the clinic speakers. She reminded Heather so much of her daughter, Cassandra. "Very healthy. I know you specialize in dogs and cats, but should Obsidian ever need a good vet, will I be able to bring her to Buttercup Pet Clinic?"

"Of course, Mrs. Goth! We're not a pawspital anymore - any pets in need are always welcome!"

Mrs. Goth smiled, leaving a generous tip in the spirit of Winterfest when Heather finished with her cat. Heather closed up shop after dark, returning home under heavy snowfall and bright streetlights.

When she walked in the door, she was greeted by Gord and the cats, but she was drawn to the sound of voices upstairs, where Conrad and Ash had started decorating the tree without her. "I tried to bribe him to wait but he said he wanted to surprise you."

"I thought you might be tired, mommy."

She smiled warmly. "I don't mind that you started without me, but try not to finish yet. Just give me one second - I have a surprise!"

She raced down the stairs and pulled out four gift-wrapped boxes from beneath a pile of blankets in her wardrobe, each one labelled with their names. Conrad. Heather. Ash. Lavender. Their family.

Returning upstairs, the only place they could fit their tree, Ash squealed with excitement when he saw the presents. "Can we open them now?"

"Of course! You're going to want to wear them, I'm sure."

Conrad glanced at her with a smirk. "You ordered them, didn't you."

Heather's straight face bloomed into a smile. "Happy Winterfest Eve!"

She laughed as they opened their matching holiday pajamas. The burgundy knit sets by @vixonspixels were perfect for cold, snowy winter nights in Brindleton Bay, and they posed for a few photos they could send to family.

"Do you think we should have gotten the kids' haircuts before the holidays?" Heather moaned, playfully ruffling Ash's wispy mane.

"For some family photos?" Conrad scoffed. "The hair isn't going to be what makes them turn out great. It's the pajamas, obviously."

(I love them and they have 3 different swatches - I used them all just to show them off and I thought it'd be cute since they still look like a match. And they have infant sizes which was harder to find and what really sold me!)

Gord still needed a walk after they'd finished decorating the tree, so Heather left Conrad in charge of the kids while she took the dog for a brisk walk down to the frozen creek.

Conrad cuddled Lavender while Ash finished his letter to Father Clement downstairs. His blue-eyed baby girl was just as perfect as her mother and looked up at him with devotion; it seemed strange to think he'd ever been afraid to be a father.

He put her to bed, reciting the story of The Giving Tree, just as he had for her elder brother when he was her age. As she drifted to sleep, he kissed her forehead and pulled a small box from his pocket.

Ash raced up the stairs excitedly - he'd clearly stolen one or two of the cookies meant for Father Clement - but it wasn't just a sugar high that had him jumping off the walls tonight. "Mommy and Gord are coming back! I saw through the window. Do you have it?"

Conrad grinned, crouching down to show him what he'd pulled from his pocket. "Do you think she'll like it?"

"I think she'll love it, not like it!" Ash dropped his voice to a whisper as they heard Heather's key turn in the door downstairs. "She'll be so surprised!"

I cannot express how much I hate needing to do this. But my finances are down to the absolute wire and I need help one more time to pay not just for Peach's care, but for some of my personal expenses as well.

Peach is my wonderful, beautiful, perfect, sassy, cuddly, loving cat. She's 12 years old, and a few months ago we found out that she is diabetic. I love her so, so much and I will do anything I can to keep her healthy and give her a wonderful life as she enters her senior years, but unfortunately the costs of caring for a diabetic cat are more than I can afford right now.

The good news? I've landed a job! I'm so excited to start this week! But until my first paycheck comes through, the transcription work I do on a contract basis has been increasingly hard to come by and what little I have received can't cover all of my present expenses. Peach needs a vet visit, syringes to inject her insulin, and her vet-prescribed food, and I need help to pay for my commute to work, and I am completely out of options.

So here's what we're looking at. Peach's syringes and food are the above $168. I have also had to purchase a third glucometer for her—yes, you heard that right—for a total of $40. Because my credit card is so close to being maxed out, I can't even schedule a vet visit to apply it until I have the funds, and that's going to be somewhere between $50 and $100 to apply the sensor and do some additional bloodwork.

Then we come to me. I am going to be commuting to my new job via train and the most affordable way for me to do so will be to purchase an unlimited ride pass for the month of October, costing $75. And on top of this, I have my upcoming October health insurance bill that totals around $150.

This all adds up to be between $483 and $533, depending on what bloodwork they will need to do during Peach's vet visit. Factoring in the fee that Ko-fi and PayPal take from donations, I am in need of around $575 at the most.

This is an overwhelming amount of money to ask for. I know that and I feel like shit for doing so. But I am so close to reaching financial stability. I just need a little more help and then I'll be back on my feet for good.

A second character gets the spotlight without Chihiro showing up at all, and it's everyone's favourite tragic daughter. Once we get the kanji for her name I'll be confident in saying that she's here to stay as a cast member. Hopefully without getting shoved out of entire arcs, but y'know. No excessive bitterness allowed.

Hokazono-sensei really does name characters at gunpoint, huh. We didn't get the kanji for Inori's name either so there's nothing to look into in that respect but man, what a woman. I'm interested in how she met and fell in love with Samura but I think that's beyond the scope of this story.

I kind of hope we don't get any more dead moms for our cast members after this. We've got three confirmed instances now (Char, Hakuri, and Iori) and two implied permanent or near-permanent absences (Chihiro and Hiruhiko, though I concede that the latter is still mostly unknown). Someone in the main cast's gotta have a mom that's alive and well and not intended as tragic backstory fodder, right? Yeah? Even Disney stopped relying on the Dead/Missing/Evil Mom tropes a while back...

Let's talk about the good things though.

Go off, princess!

Well maybe not so good for Samura but we kind of expect him to be a complete and utter failure of a person outside of being a swordsman by now, right? Abandoned his wife and never visited his daughter so she had no idea who he was... poor Iori. She had every right to hate him then, and has every right to ream him out in the main story once they reunite again.

I've only seen Inori for one chapter but I'm going to say it: she was everything Samura needed, but she was too good for him. He lost her by refusing to stop dwelling on the past -the war especially- and she eventually ran out of patience. Good for her honestly! I like it when a character recognises they can't fix a major flaw in their partner and chooses to leave rather than hope they get better some day. She's not hating his guts or anything but she just lost patience with him and his refusal to find a way to manage his grief and be there for the people who love him. It's incredibly human and healthy! (Is that why she had to die?)

What Inori says here is: "He's the worst! He's always dwelling on the past and totally neglecting us!" Hokazono did the little trick with the Ruby again so the word heard spoken aloud is "past" thanks to the hiragana (かこ for 過去 [kako, "the past"]) but the kanji is 戦争 [sensou, "war"] to let the audience know what she really means.

At any rate, she's completely right about Samura being a total failure of a person outside of swinging a sword. He's being such a martyr over what he did that he can't even bring himself to be there for his little girl! The hell! How can you be so wrapped up in yourself that you abandon your daughter and lose a woman like Inori? By being a traumatised war vet with intense guilt that you can't or won't get help for, that's how.

But life forces Samura to face the future through Iori anyway and it's so freaking funny.

It's the little things sometimes.

Samura can't tell what's going on despite his super senses because he's not used to living with a child as a blind man- I love touches like this. The character writing for the series is still top-notch even with the weaknesses in pacing and theme execution this arc. I'm always amazed that a 24-year-old has such a thorough understanding of people and relationship dynamics. Most of all, though, I'm so happy that Iori gets to be a classic morally upright shounen protagonist -nerfing herself fight the "enemy" on their level, facing things head-on with spirit, endangering herself to protect others- to contrast Chihiro's more modern dark and troubled take... without the baggage of being a girl! She's just a kid doing her best with the shitty circumstances she's found herself in. Another author might put emphasis on how she's still a girl despite her shounen characteristics by showing her venting to dolls instead or being extremely cutesy, for example. But Iori's just straight up challenging her dad to "competitions" with training swords and knives and trying to learn how to fight like he does. I adore this kind of writing so so much!

I'm also a big fan of how this chapter was used to quickly explain how Iori could fight while still focusing mostly on how she was "competing" with her dad to vent her anger like little kids do. She's got a firecracker personality and heaps of stubbornness to see her through tough times, but she's still just an 8-year-old kid who loves and worries about her mom very much. So she processes it through trying to get on the same level as her enemy, her deadbeat dad. At least Samura finally realises it's a great way to keep her distracted from her mom's situation! He starts looking to the future at last thanks to Iori dragging him out of his own head. Not a moment too soon, either because...

A dad who recalled his wife's last words and decided to embrace what he'd been avoiding all this time... if Kyora had a will of adamant, then Samura's is far more brittle- but that's not always a bad thing.

He's not a great parent all of a sudden but his heart's finally in it to try, at least. And that's what Iori needs most in the moment.

Chapters like this are the core of what makes me so invested in Kagurabachi. Examining legacy, trauma, and other painful burdens through the lens of parenthood is where this series truly shines. All the kids in the main cast have deeply flawed parents who passed on their pain to them unwittingly, and now they have to figure out how to grapple with it while the Hishaku are plotting dastardly deeds. For me, Kagurabachi is a riveting story of musing on how legacy affects everyone differently and it just so happens to use stellar action scenes to tell the story most of the time. It's what makes more grounded chapters like this stand out and hit all the harder.

Short Detour: On Character Names and Kanji

I mentioned it before so I kind of want to yap about it a bit. It's funny to joke that Hokazono-sensei only names characters at gunpoint, and there's some merit to it with how often we're left hanging, but I think he's quite deliberate about it in certain cases.

For instance, we knew who Chihiro was from the get-go obviously. He's the MC so he needs something for us to call him by. But it was only ever spelled as チヒロ [chihiro] in katakana until this flashback right before the "keep a cool head" moment during Char's rescue in chapter 14:

"It's great that you're so serious about what I teach you an' all. I appreciate that but... don't get too fixated. If you always try to follow in my footsteps, it'll be a waste that you were born as Chihiro Rokuhira".

That's when we saw the meaning behind his given name for the first time: 千鉱 [chihiro, "thousand ores"]. It's not something that can come across in English but the profundity of the moment is exceptional thanks to this small reveal. Chihiro is malleable and can become anything he wants- he has a thousand possibilities in front of him. He should choose his own path instead of strictly following in his father's footsteps. This is what allows him to bend Enten to his will and tap into the blade's True Realm.

The only other characters with names that we don't know the kanji of right now are Char (鏡 凪シャル), Hinao (ヒナオ), Kazane (真智カザネ), Iori (イヲリ), and Inori (イノリ). Everyone else has had the kanji stated, especially if all we know are their surnames/code names (like Azami, the Masumi, and Ikura). "Char" isn't a Japanese word or name to begin with so she'll always have the katakana most likely. Hinao is a mystery but also barely a character so I wonder if we'll see her again much at all anyway. Inori's in a similar boat as a one-chapter character that was used for Iori's tearjerker backstory. Kazane and Iori have the biggest chance of a reveal (assuming Kazane does come back of course). Especially Iori since she's hugely important to the story this arc. She's making a lot of parallels to Chihiro already as a fellow child of a famous Seitei War "hero" with skeletons in their closet, so it would be cool to see a kanji reveal happen at another deeply emotional moment for her. I'll definitely make a note of it if it happens!

Anyway, back to the chapter.

Samura Seiichi, John "Yura" Hishaku, and Sin

I'm vibrating in my seat, frothing at the mouth, internally flailing and screaming, champing at the bit. I swear to God if we switch back to the present and don't follow up on this page next chapter I am going to fucking explode from an apoplectic fit. It's not just from being strung along with Seitei War lore tidbits for so long either.

There are no world-building tidbits that can get me more interested in a work than post-apocalyptic imagery of cities being overrun with nature. I will dive head-first into anything that has this kind of shit no questions asked- I'm a fucking addict. Forget 2B's lovingly rendered 3 ton ass, I played Nier: Automata because of the atmosphere while running around in destroyed cities. Lord of the Rings is my ultimate comfort read because of all the ruins with deep lore scattered around. I forgive a lot of the flaws in the Xenoblade Chronicles series because it uses this imagery in every game. I even kept confronting my thalassophobia to get through all of Outer Wilds because of this stuff.

The iris and lily flowers in view make it obvious that this is Magatsumi's handiwork and boy howdy do I need to know all about it. Did this happen on the small island that supposedly attacked Japan? Is it still like this today? Or, given John's dialogue, is this something that will come to pass later on? I need to know. I've been edged on this for so long and now I've been served imagery that makes me certifiably, obsessively insane once more so please. Author.

Chapter 51. Going to keep this scene in mind as we learn more info.

This scene with Chihiro and Shiba ocurred years after Samura met John for the first time. I ended up making a colour-coded major event timeline just to be sure I wasn't crazy thinking this was pretty whack of Samura. The relevant flow for this is: 22 years prior: Small island nation allegedly appears in the south-east seas 20 years prior: Seitei War begins 18 years prior: Seitei War ends ~17 years prior: Iori born 9 years prior: Inori hospitalised, Iori taken in by Samura 8 years prior: Inori dies, Samura meets John 5~4 years prior: Chihiro meets Samura & goes to his home 3 years prior: Kunishige murdered & blades stolen, Samura makes pact with John 2 years prior: Iori's memories sealed Oct. 5th in present year: Story start

We don't know what John and Samura talked about yet- maybe John didn't give Samura all the info, maybe Samura wasn't on board until after Kunishige was murdered (that's when he made that pact with the pinky ring after all). But holy shit he knew some bad stuff was happening and maybe even knew that Kunishige was going to die. Maybe he already felt that the Bearers all need to go, too. But he only warned Chihiro away from following his path and told him not to admire him. This man is so fucking complex!

Tear track scars again... (chapter 58)

There's also the matter of that pinky promise. My working theory is as follows: whatever John told him had Samura at least somewhat sympathetic to their plans. But he wasn't convinced to act until Kunishige was killed and Chihiro effectively orphaned. That was what brought his desire to save the "future" (Iori) into focus through the lens of the past he can't bring himself to move on from- he decided to end things on his own terms because he saw the same thing happening to his own kid no matter what and wanted to spare her from the pain of losing both of her parents (and his inadequacies as a father/person). So he had her memories sealed to let her live a normal, happy life while he worked with the Hishaku to root out evil in honour of Kunishige's ideals. "Evil" in this case being the Bearers, the Hishaku, the Hishaku's mole, and then himself. I hope this pans out but I'll be happy if I'm wrong too, of course. The author is the best one to tell his story.

Kyora's still my favourite villain so far but all these tragic shades of grey have me extremely invested in Samura. Honestly, depending on how this arc goes, Samura might take the #1 spot. He doesn't have the bombast of Sojo or the personal resonance that Kyora does. Instead, Samura's a rich and incredibly compelling villain due to how much of a genuinely good guy he is. He's fucking up big time over and over again but it's for extremely human reasons. Who hasn't ever given in to wallow in grief and guilt for a spell? Who hasn't felt the effects of those feelings warping them, if ever so slightly? Imagine them compacting down and running rampant for years thanks to a horrible secret you can't share. There's still so much to uncover about Samura and the Seitei war but it's easy to understand how he ended up where he is.

This chapter was a great reminder of why I still read Kagurabachi and yap about it every week. Despite all my complaints about how the story is being told at the moment, the character writing is still top-notch. I hope we see all these puzzle pieces we were asked to keep in mind for 20+ chapters now start to fall into place! For now I think I'll start drafting some comparisons between Kunishige-Kyora-Samura and Chihiro-Hakuri-Iori, with the expectation (wish) that we get the full picture on Samura's motives sooner rather than later... Sojo really stands out as the first arc villain now since he doesn't have the parental ties to the core of the narrative that Kyora and Samura do. He was just a lens to examine Chihiro through, while Kyora and Samura build on Chihiro's character and examine another character's takes on the theme at the same time.

Okay! Hopefully the editor's comment isn't bait and we stay on the Seitei War Lore train next chapter too. Else I really will start malding. See you next time, kind void, and take care of yourself in the meantime.

STORYTIME: DO NOT FEED YOUR CLOWNS THIS!!

I volunteer a few days a week at a clown shelter. Earlier this month, a Teacup-Birthday mix named Kiki was adopted by a (seemingly) very nice middle aged couple, and we were very happy to send yet another clown to a good home. But disaster struck this afternoon when the couple returned to the shelter, wanting to surrender Kiki back to us. Their reason? She was not performing any tricks and had been biting them nonstop for weeks now. I was of course very shocked and confused by this. Kiki was one of the most playful and least temperamental clowns I had ever cared for.

I asked them if she had the proper environment, if they had changed her costume or markings in any way, if they were feeding her the proper diet. They said that they were doing everything right, and were following the care instructions we had given them. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, but their story just wasn't adding up. And they were shifting nervously, and talking quietly to each other when they thought I wasn't looking. I told them to wait while I took Kiki for a checkup. As I took her to the vet's office, I couldn't help but notice that she seemed to lack any energy at all. When I tried to tickle her stomach (something that she normally loves), she snapped at me (Luckily, I jerked my hand away before she could bite).

When the vet examined Kiki, it was revealed that she was suffering from malnourishment and a button infection. I went back out to talk to the owners, and they continued to deny any mistreatment. After some more questioning and prying, they finally broke down and admitted what they had been doing.

They had been feeding Kiki a mix of mice and small bones (no problem there). But for her candy intake, they had been feeding her SUGAR-FREE candy. My heart sank as soon as I heard those words. No wonder Kiki had been so sick.

Every clown owner should know that (in general) Clowns need a healthy mixture of raw meat and sugar in their diets. Feeding them sugar-free stuff can be very bad for them and cause a LOT of problems.

For one, they will not be getting their much needed sugar intake. A sugar deficiency will lower their mood, make them more easily agitated, make them sick, and can even be deadly for some clown breeds (such as Birthday and Circus). As Kiki is a Birthday clown, she might not have survived another week without sugar.

Another thing to keep in mind about sugar-free products is that they often have artificial sweeteners in them. These sweeteners are not ideal for clowns, as most clown breeds have sensitivities or allergies to them. Simply put, most clowns' digestive systems are not properly built to process sugar-free foods. Feeding your clown artificial sweeteners over time can even weaken their immune system (This is likely what contributed to Kiki's infection).

The owners claimed that they had no idea that sugar-free candy was bad for clowns (very unlikely since the care instructions specifically list sugar-free foods under the "DO NOT" section). My boss suggested to them that we take care of Kiki for a few days, but they told us they weren't coming back. As soon as they left, we informed other local shelters about them and even posted on internet forums about it, as they may go somewhere else and find a different clown to mistreat. They clearly only see clowns as entertainment and nothing else.

We gave Kiki some cotton candy, and she's already starting to return to her old self. Unfortunately, though, this means that she's back in the system. There's no telling how long until she's adopted again.

Before anyone asks, we make sure to look into anyone who's interested in adopting one of our clowns. We run background checks, call character witnesses, make sure they have the proper environment for a clown and have the money to support one, etc. Overall, the process takes about a month or so. Sometimes it can take even longer if we have a waiting list. It is extremely rare that a clown adoption goes wrong. In fact, this is the first time it's happened in the year I've been volunteering here.

TL;DR

Don't feed clowns sugar-free foods! It can make them very sick and cause a lot of complications.

Hey all! Apologies for going dark over here. Life kinda beat my ass for a bit but I am getting back on track finally!!

TLDR; my eight year old ferret passed away and I thought it was my fault. The grief & guilt ate me alive until we confirmed it was lymphoma. I’m still very sad because my Sweet Bean was my buddy for eight years, but I’m feeling better and I’m finally back at making art. I will be following up with folks this week!!

It truly feels like the end of an era, I had ferrets from 2013 to now. Bean was a vvvv good girl with the fuzziest pantaloons, who hated my partner’s guts and socked feet. I’ll miss her. ❤️‍🩹

Here’s what happened: A couple weeks ago I got a nasty case of bronchitis which was rough and sucked. I also had an eight year old ferret named Bean who was the last of a trio my partner and I had. My eldest I got before I met my partner in 2012 and he passed away in 2024 he was with me from college to home ownership and lived in half a dozen states. He was deaf and loved chomping erasers. My middle was an adrenal boy and only made it to three which was heart breaking because he was truly one of the sweetest, most special creatures I’ve ever met. Then there was Bean our only girl and an absolute spitfire.

If you don’t know ferrets can get influenza (and covid) from people. Since Bean was housed in my office I always wore gloves and a mask when feeding/watering and a mask while working if I was sick with respiratory symptoms. Even if it’s not something I should be able to pass her in theory.

A couple days after recovering Bean started sounding a little wheezy. In the past she could get that way when we transitioned into Spring but having just been sick I was still cautious and got a vet appt scheduled for three days later. By the next morning she was much raspier, I called my office and our exotic vet wasn’t in to get her in sooner.

At this point I’m convinced I got her sick. Our appointment is still two days out and I’m stressed. She then begins to rapidly deteriorate. By late afternoon I called an exotics EV the next town over and we got our ass there. Ultimately with her condition and age the vet advised euthanasia because she suspected what we were dealing with was cancer, something common in ferrets her age. I didn’t realize until we were in the car that her lymph nodes under her neck were quite swollen. However I was still convinced I had killed my ferret by not being cautious enough and opted for a necropsy before cremation.

It took like two weeks of me irrationally dwelling on murdering my beloved pet before we got results back which confirmed that it was actually lymphoma. Like cats ferrets will hide that they’re not feeling good and despite being healthy at her last yearly about seven months ago she had been slowing down. I had assumed it was just age but it was seemingly a combo of age and cancer.

Anyways fuck cancer, but I’m so relieved I didn’t accidentally murder my beloved tubular pet 🥲

My sweet, beloved, feistiest wild boy Ronin crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday night. He had been declining for the last couple of months, but took a sudden and dramatic turn for the worse that evening, and my housemate @saunterleftside and I drove him to his vet, who met us after hours to help him across.

He was a handful when we first brought him home. Deaf, so a little harder to teach manners. A real firecracker who wanted to play any time he wasn’t asleep, and would nip and bite to try to get you to tussle with him. He was never treat-motivated; what he craved was attention and interaction.

At the shelter when we adopted him, they warned us that he didn’t like other ferrets and he had to be on a special (and expensive) raw diet and would eat nothing else. Within an hour of getting him home he was absolutely best friends for life with our other deaf ferret Oak, friendly with all our ferrets, and happily eating their usual food with them.

Like many ferrets with white markings on the head, his coat gradually turned white over his lifetime. He was dark brown when I adopted him as a 9 month old, and almost pure white by his last year. He would have been 8 years old in September.

He was really living on bonus time in his last 18 months. We almost lost him in 2023 to severe liver toxicity and aplastic anemia stemming from a bad reaction to a medication. He was so near death that I told him I would miss him terribly, but if it was his time to go, he could go with my love and understanding.

Dr. Ramsell met us at her clinic at night then, too, and brought three of her own ferrets to serve as blood donors for Ronin. With the transfusion and a lot of nursing care, he recovered almost miraculously. He was never quite as energetic as he had been before that illness, but he was mostly his old self. He wrestled with Oak, chased Créme, and slept in a cozy pile with them and Macaroni. And still forgot his manners and bit my forearm (not hard) when he got overexcited when playing with me.

He lived a good life, with a bonus year and a half I wasn’t sure I’d get. Nearly 8 for a ferret is about the same as nearly 80 for a human, and this time, when it was his time, it was clear he was ready.

I will miss him. I do miss him. Terribly, deeply, in ways I know I will always feel. He was a “heart ferret” for me, just like Macaroni who passed in November 2023, not long after Ronin’s miraculous recovery.

Créme passed in her sleep on Christmas Eve last year, so now it’s just Oak with me. He just turned 8 himself. He’s still strong and active, but I can tell he’s mourning Ronin. I’m looking into finding a middle-aged ferret or two who need a new home, because ferrets are social creatures and I know he will be lonely and depressed as a solo ferret.

I won’t say farewell to Ronin. Instead, I’ll say “See you later.” Because I know in my own soul that there is a place where he is now, whole and healthy, romping with his sisters and brothers who already crossed over, and I believe I will see them all again one day, whether they come back to me in new bodies, or I join them when I make the same journey they have.

January 2025 Rescue Update - All Dog Stuff

Rory's 13th Gotcha Day happened, bringing his estimated age to 14 years old. Aside from dental issues, he is in perfect health. Snowstorms saw the smaller dogs struggling to navigate the changing terrain... but we had such a lovely time together! The power went out a couple times, for a total of about 24 hours. The cabin was alive with flickering candlelight and we enjoyed cozying up together.

Puddle's tooth was removed around the beginning of the month. She needs antibiotics and then a major dental workup. I'm scrambling to re-establish stable employment. I haven't gone 24 hours without applying for a job since late last Fall. Donnie is working harder than ever. We've fallen behind on very necessary vetting.

Daily focus is placed on shaping healthy behaviors and the dogs are trained in short, frequent bursts. Our journey is to build joy and confidence that empowers each dog to be a perfect canine best friend. Behavior is communication. Dog walks start between 9am and 10am with up to 4.5 hours between. Ultimately the weather and their individual needs determine how this goes. As a great trainer often says, "you make the plan but the dog sets the pace." Our last walk at 10pm or later and the majority of the dogs will be crated for the night. I cannot understate how hard Donnie and I work to avoid just letting the dogs out and we never just leave a dog outside unsupervised. The dogs enjoy a daily meal with food rewards and puzzles throughout and the cats are free fed. I think this is best, unless your cat has specific needs or difficulty maintaining a healthy weight. Biweekly (ishh) I give each dog their nail trimmin, groom them, baths if necessary, and give their crate/bed an aggressive cleaning. Obviously there's a lot of maintenance and a fuck ton of cleaning in between, but this is essentially how I structure my month. Every Saturday, errbody gets physical examination to stay ahead of any issues. You will need your warm hands, adequate lighting, and more importantly than anything: patience. Once I'm sure my dog or cat is relaxed, I gently inspect their face. At this time I am paying special attention to their eyes and surrounding tissues. Is anything pale or inflamed, for example? Once I'm satisfied that everything's kosher on the surface I take my attention to the inside and the delicate folds of the ears. If nothing's icky or weird I look closely at the nose and take a peek (remember gently) at their teeth and gums. If it's all good in the hood, we'll finish up by checking on the feet and toes. Note:Whenever I do nails, I trim excess fur from the feet. This makes the whole foot inspection bit go waaay more smoothly. Dharma passed away on January 26. It is with extreme grief that I write. I am devastated. I intend to honor her by being the person she always saw when she looked at me. It’s difficult to go on. I’ll always love her so much. We did everything together. Eat, sleep, walk, play, everything… and my life was far richer for it. 💔

I love my vets. They got us in a room first thing. Let me take the lead on how we did the catheter & IV injection. I got to stay with her until she was completely under. Went home to take care of Taravali and then they called me back before they woke her up. I got to be in the room with her when they brought her out of sedation and assisted with the tube withdrawal so as far as Mandana knows I was right next to her the entire time.

Mandana has made so much progress from those few traumatic sedation visits with the other vet clinics. As soon as we flushed the saline she laid down on the gurney and closed her eyes. We all had a good laugh because they hadn’t even injected the anesthesia yet lol When she woke up she had a little bit of grumbling as seen in the video but that was the extent of her concern. I’ve seen such a huge improvement in her stress levels over the last few fear-free procedures. I understand why this level of vet care isn’t widely available but it SHOULD be standard.

Tooth was definitely broken but otherwise healthy and came out smoothly (they even saved it for me so I could see exactly how it broke). X-rays confirmed all her other teeth are good and she didn’t even need a cleaning. She always takes an abnormally long time to recover from sedation or anasthesia so we’re just making sure she’s stable on her feet before she goes home.

WIBTA if I tell my aunt to stop feeding my cat?

A cat showed up and moved into my house last year, and I have been caring for her since then. And I have been taking this very seriously, I spayed, vaccinated, click trained, brushed daily, we play 3 times every day, and then she eats, I gathered money to buy good cat food (not the best but not the cheapest either) and I even took veterinary lessons to be sure that I was doing the right thing.

And it's worked, you wouldn't believe that she is the same kitten that got here last year, she's fatter and her hair is shiny and soft, not to brag, but she went from daily diarrhea to the most perfect poop ever.

The thing is that my family makes fun of how compromised I am with the cat, they say that I am tooooo serious about it, that I should let my cat go outside, eat trash, eat human food, hunt bugs and rats, or whatever. They say "It's a cat! It has 7 lives! Just let her live them all"!

Then my aunt moved in with us this year because she had a stroke and now the left side of her body is paralyzed, so we are taking care of her. My aunt tried to be friends with my cat, but she was shy and would run away, so I gave my aunt a bottle of cat food and told her to shake and give A BIT to my cat, and, eventually, she would trust her.

Just as I said happened, they became friends and I'm happy about it. My aunt is alone most of the time and my cat's visits make her day.

But today I just discovered that my aunt was giving her food equivalent of two or three meals. And that explains why my cat was acting weird, like… she doesn't want clicker training anymore, she seems indifferent when I feed her, and her bathroom habits change. I was almost calling the vet about this all. My cat is still healthy (for now) but before she was an exemplary cat.

If I said to my aunt that she had to stop feeding her, she would be sad and take it personally or she would ignore it and think that it was not serious just like the rest of my family.

I know that sounds ridiculous, like "Hey my cat's bathroom time changes!", but it's also a money problem, like… I measured her food, and I bought bags that should last some months, they cannot go to waste or I have to get money from nowhere to buy more. Also, can you imagine how expensive would be if she got sick?

But also, I think that is more profound than just to feed or not to feed the cat. My aunt's stroke didn't come from anywhere, my family's genetics are rich in those things (strokes, diabetes, high pressure). I have a handful of relatives who died of strokes and heart attacks. We tend towards obesity and its related diseases and even so, my family believes that food is love. Not even a good homemade Saturday banquet, but really disgusting junk food. They act like the fact that I measure and schedule my cat meals is a crime and an insult to them.

So I don't know, I feel like… if I bring concern about my cat's health, am I saying something about her own health? Am I blaming her for her situation?
