Wish list for CBS ghosts season 4
Make Patience a recurring antagonist for at least 2-3 episodes before that story gets resolved and she gets regulated to a background character.
Patience character to be 50% good religious farm girl, 50% crazy witch. She also needs to have a wicked(ly cool) ghost power
More of Isaac loving dinosaurs
More solo development for Isaac
More of Isaac and Hetty's awesome friendship
No Nigel for a while. I do not like him. He did a lot of things in his and Isaac's relationship that are textbook abusive partner behavior.
I think it is about time for Jay's restaurant to start up, and I would like that to actually become pretty successful/profitable. Mostly because I would like Sam and Jay to have a bit more disposable income to do things around the manor, and I know the B&B is unlikely to become super busy next season (unless the show is ending , which I really do not want).
The difference in treatment between the above ground ghosts and basement ghosts to be addressed. I know after season 3 that they aren't going to move them all up stairs. But it would be nice if Sam and Jay could like furbish the basement , and then more Basement ghosts than just Nancy got invited to come upstairs for games or discussion.
Just to be clear I still want Nancy to keep making her frequent visits up stairs and hang out with the man 8. I just also would not mind seeing Stuart or another nameless basement ghost standing or walking by in the background on the occasion.
Explore Pete's power more. He does not need to hop on a plane and go across the country or anything, but let him keep going out into town and having adventures. Also let him keep going on dates with other random ghosts outside of the house.
I know that Pete&Alberta will probably happen at some point in season 4. The thing is though while that ship was cute in season 1, the way the ship was handled in season 2 soured it like milk to me. Both characters need a lot of development, and separate explorations of what they want out of a relationship, before I can ship them again.
H-Money is still a couple I kinda like. I do not expect them to get back together in season 4 (Please not another season that is fully devoted to coupling up all the character), but I would like them to start scheming together again. Let them figure out how to interact together as friends, and build a stronger foundation to eventually, in season 5 maybe, try again.
I have heard people suggest that Pete's power could maybe be extend to getting the other ghosts through the barrier if they are like holding onto Pete's hand. I want this. Now I know Sass will want to visit a Pizza Hut, and Issac a dinosaur museum, but I would say the most important thing to do with that would be to take Thor and Flower over to the Farnsby manor to visit Bjorn and his girlfriend Judy. It would also be cool if there was a lesbian ghost living there they could set up Nancy with. Since Nisaac is on a "respite" and queer representation (preferably healthy queer representation) is important.
Everyone remember in season 2 when we learned about Flower's super protective, formally MIA, army vet brother : Rob. You remember how the show's staff said they would love to have Rob come to the B&B for a visit, and were already considering actors who could play him? I want this episode. Also if you cannot directly tell Rob his sister is a ghost on the property, then can Trevor or Alberta use their powers to help Flower send a message to Rob. To say that she still loves him. I cannot deal that both siblings spent like 50 years thinking the other hated them when neither did. It is to sad.
It would be cool if we could also have Ira visit once too. I know Flower did not love him like she did Michael or does Thor, but he was still someone who was a big part of her life for a while, and knowing her cannonly had a large impact on his. Maybe we find that while he has done charities in her memory, trauma over watching her be killed by a bear has also lead him to sponsor bear hunts or poaching. Flower is horrified. Then Sam and Jay have to spend his visit looking for a way to convince him that is not what Flower would have wanted.
Four standard episodes for each season are a Halloween episode, an episode where Bela visits, one where Stephanie wakes up, and one where Crash appears and is slightly relevant. I have no idea what to do for an episode with Crash, but for the others
-Ghost animals on Halloween
-Home theater night for ghosts and guests on the night Stephanie wakes up, complete with all the drama of set up and shenanigans that going to the movies encores.
- Bela is broken up with Eric, she does not even like him. This time her and Jay's parents come with her for the visit. Bela wants all the latest gossip surrounding the ghosts, but they have to tip toe around the parents. Jay's dad does not fully support the B&B even without the knowledge that it is haunted, and Sam does not want to give her mother in law another reason to suspect that she might be crazy.
Owning back to the "Can Pete take the other ghosts off the property" theory, can Thomas Woodstone be a ghost who died visiting a neighbors property. We have no reason to see Elias again since he has decided to stay put in Hell. But Thomas reappearing could be interesting for both Hetty and Alberta. If he does show up though I want the twist to be that he is actually severally cognitively impaired (think Lenny from oMaM)... I mean the man was from an inbred family, played with lead based toys as a baby, had a cocaine addict mom, and a father who was a lot of things. He could not have been all there. Also address more on if Earl ever actually cared for any of the people he was two timing (again development that needs to happen to make Alberta want to go from dating an Earl to a Pete).
A Sasappis based episode that is not his death story. I feel like he needs at least one more episode exploring what his life alive was like, to be appropriately gutted when we learn about his secret death.
Actually maybe we can hold off on Sass's death and Hetty's ghost power until season 5. let's keep the element of mystery in the show for a little longer.

Okay so Hetty said that David was her great great great grandson so Thomas (or potential other son) went on to have children after Alberta's murder. But also Hetty introduced herself as Sophie's great great grandmother? I guess it's possible that David's father was out of the picture and his name was omitted, which would have been very gasp-worthy in the 70s.
However David said his "folks" were out of the country. So was this like the situation between Hetty and Elias?
But David was Sam's uncle and Hetty is Sam's great something aunt on Sam's mom's side.
If Sam was descended from Hetty's sibling or sibling in-law that would make Hetty her aunt and David her cousin. How does this family tree work?

I want Thomas Woodstone to find himself at the mansion. I want Alberta to yell at him. I want Hetty to scold him in a way only a mother can. I want Alberta to, if not forgive him, at least have them come to an understanding. And last, but very much not least, I want Hetty to HUG HER SON.

Thomas Woodstone - am I crazy or is the ghost math not math-ing...?
Tumblr media
So the Thomas Woodstone featured in 2x12 "The Family Business" is theoretically the same Thomas Woodstone from "Whodunnit," so are we to assume that when he asks his dead mother whether or not he should marry the woman he is/was dating, that this was prior to both of their realizations that he was gay...? Or is he meant to be bisexual?
I'm on board with the storyline either way, I'm just confused that there wasn't at least a little bit of time spent explaining all of this, since they could've just as easily picked a different child of Hetty's to showcase in 2x12 for her not being able to offer her advice from the afterlife, if they knew they were going to make Thomas have a gay storyline later in "Whodunnit" ... but I suppose that's neither here nor there, except that that means that Thomas was either a widow in 1929, divorced (unlikely in that time period), or actively married when he was having an affair with Earl...?
Sure, he's Elias' son, so cheating is par for the course, but why would they introduce the idea that Thomas has a wife in 2x12 just to portray him as a single gay bachelor within the same season and / ten episodes...?
Tumblr media
Regardless of his sexuality or marital status, which is largely beside the math that I'm trying to parse out, just how old is he meant to be in the 2x12 flashback vs. "Whodunnit?" If Hetty died in 1891 in her late 40's, based on Rebecca Wisocky's actual age in 2020 when she was cast (she was 48 at the time), surely Thomas was at least a teenager or young adult when Hetty died...? So, using the age of 18 as a touchstone, that would mean he was born around 1873, which would put him in his mid-50's during the events of "Whodunnit."
I think I just would've liked some acknowledgment that Thomas is significantly older than Alberta, and that he's most likely still married when all of this is happening...? like, I'm so confused as to why Thomas' wife is never mentioned again, even if just in passing: "oh yeah that lady died in childbirth. so sad" would've done the trick!
The way the story is framed, it's like we're meant to think Alberta and Thomas are around the same age, when there's at least a 20-year age difference...? idk y'all. The math ain't mathing.

There's no way it could've been Thomas mathematically (at least not at 35 - he should have been 60ish).
Although the math is conflated and tight if Sophie is Hettys Great Great Granddaughter then we need 2 people between Thomas and Her and she was likely born in 1945 (maybe sooner depending since David was at least 30 in 2000).
Thus, math wise using about 25 years between births.
David - 1970
Sophie - 1945
Her mother/father - 1920
Her grandmother/grandfather - 1895
Her great grandmother/ great grandfather (Thomas) - 1870
Her Great Great Grandmother / Great Great Grandfather (Hetty/Elias) - 1845
Therefore, Thomas in 1928 should've been almost 60 or it was HIS Son who would have about 33 (per my math) and would've made SENSE to fit as what's his faces lover and jealous of Alberta.
Thoughts?

Unfinished business is a tricky thing in this show, because I am not entirely sure it is how all the ghosts will "get sucked off"
Sass, Bjorn and Alberta all finished what was pretty heavily set up to be their unfinished business. Sass became a story teller for the main 8. Bjorn discovered what happened to his father, and has even met and started a relationship with Thor. Alberta has been proven to have been murdered and solved who did it. Yet all of them are still here.
Isaac with Flower have also had things happen that could be argued were maybe part of their unfinished business. Flower learned that Ira used the money they stole to start a charitable business, that he named after her. Sam published Isaac's biography, and he is now more known to history. But given that Flower and Issac have less singular wants I can believe they had more to their agenda's.
Let's diverge from "unfinished business" to talk about the ghosts who have been "sucked off"/ "went down on the group".
Sam's mom went up when she felt like her daughter had a plan for the rest of her life, and would be fine without her. The thing is though is season 3 we got introduced to this show's concept of poltergeist (A ghost bound to a person instead of their death place), and if Sam was her reason for staying she really should have become a poltergeist. I mean what could she have done for Sam while sitting at a truck stop restaurant several states away from where Sam has chosen to spend her adult life.
Ralph, who died as a teen, was sucked off after making out with his first ever girlfriend (who did not get to go with him, but she had dated other guys before) and pronouncing this the happiest moment of his existence. We could also make the case that finally knowing Sam was set was Sheryl's happiest moment.
But is cannot be happiest moments for every ghost. Because then Alberta should have gotten "sucked off", either at her songs trending or hearing her great niece sing for her. Pete also has had moments: walking his daughter down the aisle, and his weekend beach fling with Donna. They are both still here.
Elias is a curious case not just because he "went down on us". But also the reason: he failed to/refused to learn a lesson when he shouted out "There is no such thing as good and evil. I will never change". On the flip of that Thor and Hetty might not have believed in good and evil when alive, and both acted terribly. But since death they have made many positive changes as people, and are still here.
So we have three possible ways for the ghosts to get sucked off "unfinished business", "Moment of pure happiness", "learning an important lesson they failed to in life". With these in mind I can make guesses on four of the ghosts.
Trevor: Unfinished business/power center. Power center's have not been mentioned in the show yet, but they are objects formerly belonging to the deceased that either they need to find again, or a living person needs to destroy (which one generally depends on if the ghost is peaceful or vengeful) for the ghost to move on. Just before Trevor died he went and gave his friend...Pinkus??? bottoms and cash to get home safe. People like to focus on Trevor giving Pinkus his pants. I want to talk about Trevor giving him a role of cash that he had in a fancy money clip. Trevor told Pinkus to give him back the clip at work the next day, and Pinkus agreed. But Trevor died that night and as far as we know Pinkus still has the clip. I think the reason Trevor has the power to touch objects is that he still needs to see that Pinkus (heslthy and safe) after that night, and get the money clip back. That if Pinkus brings the clip to the mansion and like sets it down somewhere, says "Thanks for helping me bro", then after he walks away Trevor picks the clip up and says "Your welcome bro. Glad you made it home safe." then that will cause him to be sucked off.
Hetty: Unfinished business. At first I thought Hetty might be attached to her family's manor, and that if it burned down or got sold, and she let it go, then that would allow her to be sucked off. However new information about her character leads me to believe it is not her house she is attached to, but her descendants. The one person in her life that she loved was her son Thomas. She did not get to spend much time with him due to parent child relationships not being a big focus of her time (and possibly dying before he was grown), but she loved him regardless. So much so that she justifies giving her life as her trying to insure that he would have what he needed to live a good one. Then she saw him go on to lead a very unhappy life, and was miserable at being unable to help him. She has seen many generations of her family grow up in the house, seen the rise in knowledge about the benefits of strong family bonds, and been unable to help or interact with her descendants how she wanted to. Until Sam. Hetty has grown to view Sam as her daughter. She has gone from opposing Sam turning their house into a BnB to really wanting it and offering Sam suggestions on how to run it. I think maybe if the BnB eventually takes off and Hetty can actually help Sam get set up to live a good life, then she will finally be at peace over her past with Thomas and finally get "sucked off". An ironic twist would be that assuming Sam does not move out of the house at the end like Alison did, I think Hetty, the ghost who is the most vocal about wanting to be sucked off, might actually demand to be put right back, so she can spend the remainder of Sam's life with her.
Thor: choice. Look Thor has already had moments of pure happiness, he has made changes to himself, and he seemingly has no unfinished business. After Sam and Jay's attempt to have him be sucked off, by giving him a proper funeral, failed he told the group he was glad that he is still here, because they are more his crew than his former tribe mates were to him. That to me has always implied that Thor is still here because the manor with his friends is were he wants to pend his afterlife. Before he met Sass and the others it could have been his guilt over having to eat his pet squirrel that made him want to stay. Thor did not think he deserved to pass on. But since meeting the others his reason is now because protecting and caring for his new crew is his new mission.
Pete: learn lessons he did not learn in life. Nearly every episode about him has been about him learning to take chances and be more assertive. We just found out that, after never having adventure as a living, he is the only ghost with the power to leave the property line. So he will "get sucked off" once he finishes becoming a fully rounded person. I do not know when that will be
What do you guys genuinely think are the ghosts’ unfinished business?

Currently once again rethinking Hetty lines through the lens of her relationship to Thomas (spoiler warning through season 2).
Like her comment to Pete in Weekend From Hell, where she says he should’ve thought before he traded his soul for some snot-nosed urchin. Is this just her being anti-children in general, or specifically because she learned firsthand how thoroughly and horribly your descendants can disappoint you, such that she doesn’t believe Pete’s sacrifice for his own descendant would have been worth it even in the absence of Elias’s tricks?
Or the scene at the end of season one, where the ghosts think Sam may be about to lose her ability to see them, when Hetty says Sam has become like a daughter with harlot hair…is she at that moment thinking about the other child who she had to watch make terrible mistakes she could do nothing to help prevent or fix, wondering if that’s what her life is about to become again?
Even in the season two finale, when Sam is about to lose the house and Hetty is just talking about the cable package and how much they’ll miss having someone to serve them…it’s played for laughs, of course, but takes place as the ramifications of everything with Thomas are still actively ringing through the house. Might Hetty genuinely in part be trying to distance herself from caring about Sam as a way to protect herself from the hurt that all her experience has taught her comes from caring about family—the hurt that she’s so very recently been painfully reminded of?

CBS Ghosts Hotel Au
Here’s a synopsis of an au I’ve had for Ghosts for quite a while:
Samantha Woodstone, determined to get her bed and breakfast on the map, agrees to host a big event which the hosts will play handsomely. Problem? She has two weeks to prepare and needs a new head chief. She soon meets the perfect candidate, Jay Arondekar, an excellent chief however how long will it take before her boss and employee relationship take a turn?
Meanwhile, checking into the bed and breakfast is newly divorced dad Pete Martino and his daughter Laura, wanting to spend time with her before she moved off for college. His daughter, however worried that her dad may never find love again after her mom. Fortunately, the odds turn into her favor as her father pines over entertainer/singer, Alberta Hayes. A woman with a determination to get out of a contract with her manger/cheating bootlegger boyfriend and away from her creepy stalker.
Elsewhere, Issac Higgintoot tries to become co-manger at the hotel, however Nigel Chessum, an old British rival from his years in law school. As their friendly rivalry continues as they fight for the job, Isaac makes a discovery about himself he wasn’t prepared for. The question reminds, will Nigel feel the same?
Native American, Sasappis, is determined to get the spotlight as head performer at the BNB. To get an okay from Sam, he must perform a groundbreaking story, requiring him to find a muse. As the week progresses, he reunites with an old childhood friend and crush of his, Shiki, he believes he finds his muse. Unfortunately, he meets Jessica, one of the two new interns. He soon finds himself in one of his favorite tropes of all, the love triangle.
Looking to reconnect with his son, Thor agrees to a job as security guard at the BNB. As he sees his son again and his grandchildren, Thor struggles to overcome his prejudice beliefs to be a part of his son’s life again. Fortunately for him, he meets former cult member and hippie, Susan ‘Flower’ Montero. As he spends more time with her, determined to let go of his hot-headed behavior, he soon realizes his feelings for her go far beyond platonical.
Finally, the host of the event Elias and Hetty Wood along with their son Thomas, stay at the hotel for Elias and Hetty to renew their vows. Hetty just can’t wait for this to be over, tired of her stale marriage. However, she meets young, finance bro, Trevor Leftkowitz. The young man, desperate to get teenage girl, Stephine to stop hitting on him, he and Hetty set up a strangers with benefits situation. As time past though and the ceremony comes up, Hetty wonders if staying married to Elias is truly worth it.
Unbeknownst to the majority, an evil scheme created by Elias lurks around. A plan made to steal ownership of the BNB and ruin Sam’s life.
Through friendship, change, and love, these strangers’ lives all intertwined in the span of just two weeks. The only question left is, will love triumph or will they be left miserable?
I may or may not write a fic of this. I don’t know yet.

I could talk about Hetty and her death for hours. I could. And I have. And I will. Hetty rant under the cut if you please DFSDGSFDDS
I honestly don't even know where to begin with this. I have so much to say about Hetty to the point that I woke up at 4a.m today because I couldn't stop thinking about her.
Hetty is an absolutely magnificent character. First off- She is a Victorian Woman. Women back then wernt treated like people. They were thrown around, used and abused, before being thrown away. Hetty was forced into a marriage (with her cousin, none the less) and was forced to be the perfect high-class image her entire life.
She was probably forced into having Thomas, but even though all that, she cares about him. She killed herself to try and secure him a safe future. She thinks Thomas must hate her- resent her for what she did to herself and how she treated him- but you can tell the opposite is true. Even after Hetty is long gone, Thomas still went to her for advice. He asked her if he should marry a lady he was seeing, and he didn't know, but Hetty was there and she cared.
Hetty had all these windows put up around her for all her life. Windows specifically because you can see her, but you can't touch. You can admire, but you can't love. You can see the display version of her that was put out to see, but you never get to see the Real Henrietta Woodstone.
Until Hetty died, and met the Ghosts. Slowly, one by one, they broke down these windows and Hetty was finally able to become herself. She allowed herself to enjoy the afterlife- to indulge in everyday things like TV, smelling foods, sex, jokes and laughing, and so much more that she wasn't ever allowed to do when she was alive.
She allowed herself to love and to be loved.
She made connections with the ghosts, she had a best friend, she had arguments and betrayals, she allowed herself to feel real love for Trevor. She did this all because she knew she had nothing to fear, that no one would be able to come back and hurt her.
But then Elias came back. Actually, it turns out he had been there the entire time. Waiting and listening the entire time, underneath the very house that Hetty was haunting. Though all the years she felt safe and at home, her terrible husband was there waiting the entire time.
They were able to get rid of him, but I can only imagine how terrified Hetty must've still felt. All this time that she felt safe, he was there.
But still, she allowed herself to live, even after this. To change and grow, even though she is a hundred and fifty years old. We have watched her experience new things, we have seen her get a chance to live again through the Arondakers and their BnB.
Then, Flower got sucked off. Or so they thought, anyways. The house wasn't the same without her, whether they liked it or not- they were incomplete. Until they found out Flower had been down a well this whole time.
Desperate to get Flower out and back to the group, Hetty revealed her deepest darkest secret. Her death- suicide. She killed herself to try and save family, but then she finally let the secret of her death out to do the same thing. She saved family.
No one knew, either. Pete knew they had a telephone, Hetty even talked to him about it. When Hetty told him about her phone, all along, she had those cords tight on her neck underneath that dress. And no one knew.
Her and Trevor were having sex for MONTHS, and they probably will again someday soon. But still, he had no idea. Not once did he see those marks or that cord, not once did he ever ask any questions.
I imagine that Hetty was glad. Glad that her shameful secret could hide safe under her collar. But I think she was also hurt. Hurt that a man she has spent countless hours with doesn't realize that there is a secret under there. She works hard to hide it- the fake story made up about her Morphine induced death, so Trevor would truthfully no reason to question it- but Hetty is only human.
She feels real sorrow and real pain, but she still hides some of it. When she pulled down that collar, you can see that she is looking at Isaac. Isaac watched her grow up and pass him in age, Isaac knew her from when she was just born, Isaac is her best friend.
She looks away and looks at the ground, you can see the fear in her face. Fear that no one will treat her thr same anymore, fear that all she will be shown is pitty and apprehension. But that's not what happens. They don't pitty her, but they try to help her. She is their friend, and they don't care how she died a hundred years ago, all they care about is who she is now and if she is okay.

Non of this is to say I don’t like usGhosts! I like it but it’s so different stylistically so I like them in different ways!
The approach to storytelling is vastly different I feel like too, like usGhosts is like “Oh look! A house full of zany ghosts! I wonder what they’ll get into this week!?” Like a typical kinda sitcomy show, where I feel ukGhosts is more like “These are people, non of them really want to be together but they also don’t want to/cant part, and they can’t stop fucking shit up, but fundamentally they are human” they all live in the same building and have been forced together for some reason or another vibes
I feel like ukGhosts handled the backstory’s better too, it felt more like getting to know someone, and having to earn their trust like how we didn’t get Cap or Kitty’s deaths till the last season, or also like when a friend just drops random lore and is lowkey like how did you not know this about me?(I remember so many people being like wait what!? When Thomas mentioned being Scottish)
It’s been awile since I watched the first two seasons of usGhosts but it felt like almost everyone was kind just like “oh hey btw!” And just like spilled the tea? Nicely correct me if I’m wrong!
And also the relationship thing! In ukGhosts the primary relationship was platonic like yeah okay there was the plot with Fanny and Humphreys body but like that was one episode thing that was a pure comedy line and Mary and Robin definitely have boned and they have these flirty little scenes but it’s not like a ✨thing ✨ ya know?
But usGhosts feels like a high school friend group that keep dating each other, like why is it so romance centric? Like every couple of episodes it seems like it’s a Major plot (especially the whole dream dating thing that was something else) I loved the one where Flower taught Hetty about the washing machine I thought that was such a fun girl bonding self love vibes, it’s like buying your recently divorced aunty her first vibe! (Is there such thing as too sex positive? lol)
And even like the Pat/Pete cheating handling like Pat was devastated then homicidal but was quickly reasoned with then they make a few jokes hear and their about it, I can’t remember if Pete had a similar reaction but bringing his wife to the house and having her die then having that weird hard candy sucking scene was just like uncomfortable.
But one thing I love more about usGhost is jays dynamic with the ghosts and Sam’s ability, like the ghosts like him and he’s not like resentful of them or Sam’s power? mike always felt very resentful of Alison’s ability to me and the way he addressed the ghosts always felt kinda rude and dismissive? Like even though jay can’t see or hear the ghosts he always tries to include them but mike always kinda felt like uncomfortable about them being there (except when they could help out)
went back to finally finish watching ghosts bbc after watching a ton of cbs shorts and i cant stop thinking of that post someone made about british actors looking like real people while USian actors look like celebrities because that's so real and applies to literally everything about the shows, down to set design and art direction

I've cracked the code, the Woodstone ghosts are all theatre kids (the improv, the Hamilton obsession, etc), and the Button House ghosts are all band kids. Thomas sings, Julian plays piano, there's Kitty asking Fanny about her favourite morning song, there's whatever the hell Cap was doing during music club. Not to mention one of their first thoughts when thinking of ways to apologise was to write a song.
