WARNINGS miscarriage scare, violence, a little angst for the soul.

Sooooo, after kid number three, Optimus is already getting used to this. Hey, why fight the Matrix when he can work with it?

Besides, it's vindicative to be able to un-do most of Sentinel's damage, after giving the miners cogs that is. His frag up doesn't have to haunt their entire species forever.

Nevermind that the Matrix takes bits and pieces out of him in lieu of transfluid, since, well, the sparklings have to come from somewhere.

If undoing the damage Sentinel did entails energon, sweat and tears every time, so be it.

So he decides to find a spot he feels safe in and build a nest!

His unfortunate ass only feels safe in the cave of the primes though.

No biggie! He just has to make a comfortable spot.

In a cave full of corpses.

Great.

By the time he is finally done he is so wiped out that he falls asleep in the nest immediately.

And then he wakes up to the sound of a fusion canon. Being aimed at his face.

Oh right, Megatron.

So they start to fight, Optimus is always trying to diffuse it and keep his shit together, like, invading a nest is extremely distressing for the carrier. It's not like Megatron knows he is invading a nest, because even he wouldn't go that low goddamnit.

And then Megatron taunts him with something along the lines of;

"Look at yourself, Prime. You have gone soft with time, literally." (I'm still working on what he says, don't be too rude)

And Optimus, the fool that he is, looks down at himself. He really shouldn't have done that because that gives Megatron an opening to hit him.

In the gut.

He immediately falls to the floor in pain. And Megatron goes "I won't have mercy on you because you feel a little pain, Prime"

He can't even finish the sentence though, Optimus interjects with "She isn't moving"

It takes a second for Megatron to realize what he means.

He immediately scrambles to help, however he can. He lifts Optimus up and places him in the nest, and really he can't do much but it's better than doing nothing!

The blow triggered the emergence, and little Solus is born unconscious. This time, the other primes' spirits are mysteriously absent.

When he has her in his arms, Megatron shakes her up a little bit, to see if she wakes up. To which Optimus tells him that it's useless, her body is weak without a sire bond, and that she'll die.

And without thinking, this other fool just.

Opens his spark chamber.

You see, to form a sire bond, the spark of the carrier acts as a bridge between the sparkling and the sire's spark.

That's right! Megatron and Optimus spark bond to save little Solus, you get nothing for guessing correctly <3

They coax her spark chamber open and the three of them bond. After the bond takes, Solus starts crying, and thank Primus she is crying, Megatron doesn't think he could have lived with the guilt if his little one died because of him.

And then Optimus takes her in his arms and Megatron's world expands by five.

They look so, so beautiful. And suddenly everything that's right in the world is in that cave, in the nest that his love made.

Because yes, that's his love now (never stopped being his love) and that's his sparkling. And Primus damn it he is not going to let go of them.

And then he looks at little Solus, and cries a little and says something along the lines of "She's perfect"

And then Optimus hits him with the "You say that because you haven't seen the other three"

Megatron cries a little more.

And the name of the AU is STILL Primes Reborn. :)

Optimus comes out of the groundbridge heavily pregnant and Bumblebee's following him because Ratchet is too nervous to let him go alone. They've just handled the time travel episode and are EXHAUSTED, but they've been saved by a Prime who is very obviously struggling to even stand properly.

Charlie asks Optimus if he's alright, and Optimus is just "No? I believe the human term is 'pregnant and ready to pop.'" And Blades (who is a medic) has to get him moved off to their quarters while Boulder explains how carriage works to Cody.

The baby pops out, and it's really tiny and wiggly and Optimus wants to die because it CLEARLY has red eyes. But all the Burnses are all swarming because it's so cute and very rare that a baby robot shows up, and Optimus just wants to hibernate for seven years. But then Optimus has to tell them that they have to take care of the sparkling because he doesn't want it around the fighting back where he's been living. The whole Burns' reactions, probably:

Charlie: It's adorable, of course we can make room here to take care of it. Just another member of the family. And I'll make sure it hears all about its... mom..?

Kade: I'm not watching it. No way. I refuse. I'm NOT a babysitter

Heatwave: You'll watch it if you have to, Kade. It's only fair that if we have to watch out for you, you can watch out for us

Chase: *actively having a mental breakdown because autobots don't have red eyes and that baby is CLEARLY a Decepticon baby*

Boulder and Graham: *eagerly showing off the baby area they built after realizing they'd have to watch the baby for at least a few days for Optimus to recover*

Blades: Oh I- I don't know how to raise a baby-

Dani: I always wanted at least ONE kid, how hard can it be

Cody: So I'm not the youngest anymore???

I adore how, out of everyone who's willing to roll with this because well it's happening, Chase is caught up on the decepticon baby part

that is immensely funnier when you remember that, before the war, Megatronus had blue optics.

Mesothulas invented Mechpreg because he wanted to knock up Prowl. Prowl, after having Springer, gets the awful idea of ending the war by causing cross faction relationship babies. Decepticons wind up bankrupt from having to pay child support.

Mechpreg is the perfect way to end the war.

Mesothulas ended war because of a breeding kink, lol.

Springer is known as the peace bringer sparkling and Megatron & Optimus’s sparkling is known as the great divide sealer sparkling.

Starscream manages to have his sparkling known as the first royal sparkling since the beginning of the war & its all thanks to Skyfire & Wheeljack lol

One of my headcannons is that Primes can't get pregnant because their chests have their sparks, T-cog, and the matrix, there's like, no room for a sparkling. The matrix is like an IUD lmao

so instead their sire protocols are just really strong since their carrier one can't activate, RIP Ratchet though that sparklings gonna be huge

Mech Pregnancy and Protoform Development of Gestating Sparklings

Here is what I have compiled on Cybertronian "reproduction" from More Than Meets the Eye, specifically the Holiday Special and Volume 5:

So this would be the protoform development for a forged sparkling and it lends support to that, if Cybertronians gave birth to their own Sparklings, then they would likely be an egg-like form (yes, I know it's not actually a sparkling, but can we all agree that Swerve is strangely well-informed on protoform development for forged Cybertronians?)

So what would slide out from the gestation tank has no discernable features yet and still needs hours if not days before the protoform resembles an adult Cybertronian, but I still don't have an answer for the size of this thing - at what point does it reach its full size? Cybertronians before the war went to academies, so what point does the protoform receive an education instead of having relevant information jammed into its brain module right before deployment like a MTO cold construct?

But, let's be honest, I am going out of order here. Let's go to Volume 5 where we encounter a hot spot of re-ignited sparks on the moon:

So this is being constructed cold.

And this is forged - as well as the official story for how cold constructed bots were made, which apparently differs from the truth. Here is the truth for how cold constructed sparks were actually formed:

So all cold constructs were made from the matrix - but what if they did come from igniting healthy sparks to make new ones?

What if you used the energy of two sparks to create an entirely new one and that sparkling attached itself to a parent spark for some time before it dropped to a gestation tank (this is common in fanfiction and I love it so much, it makes the most sense)? As these two orbs of immense power and life resonate with one another, creating waves of energy that can be interpreted as pleasurable for the interfacing bots, excess energy could gather itself into a separate orb that borrows the life code from both parents, becomes randomized, and this creates a new life code for a separate entity. It stays in the spark chamber for a period of time - I don't know, decoding or storing energy or something, I am very bad with electronics - before dropping down to an artificial gestation tank.

And this is where the valve/plug comes into play if you so desire because now we have the issue of, where is the spark going to go? It needs a protoform. It needs the materials to make a protoform. It also needs liquids.

Cybertronians seem to live off energon and anything you can make from energon, but there have been references and images in the comics of Cybertronians have oil as a waste product, so they need a separate compartment for oil away from their energon tank and they also are said to have (in fanfiction, at least): oral solvents, lubricant, transfluid, optic fluid, etc... All those will require their own compartments and they will all have either been diluted from the energon or will have an origin in a separate liquid that isn't mentioned. Let's keep in mind that they will also need some sort of oil for their hinges and their nanites for upkeep.

So I believe these gestation tanks are where the Sparklings develop their egg-like protoform with all these liquids that they themselves can't make yet, and I think they get what they need from nanite colonies as there is no umbilical cord (not unless you want the bots to have belly buttons). I like to think of them as nannyites - nanites that, once a protoform hits the gestation tank, have latent codes that becomes active and now have protoform-related tasks versus whatever tasks they did beforehand. The nannyites will likely take these resources from the carrying parent, everything from fluids to energon stores to living metal that the nannyites will adapt or make compatible for the sparkling.

So this carrying parent suddenly has fewer nanites colonies themselves, a thinner layer of living metal, and depleted storages of fluids.

Hear me out, hear me out: Valveplug interfacing helps the carrying parent because transfluid will contain necessary materials for the protoform.

I am going to take it a step further and say that it is that first shot of transfluid into the gestation tank during spark and valveplug interfacing creates input that electronically signals to the receiving parent to gather the excess energy from the spark play via centripetal force like a satellite and that force signals the excess energy to turn on life codes it recycled from both parents and create its own life code. That transfluid inside of the gestation tank also turns on those latent codes for the nannyites to get the compartment prepared. It's that first dose of necessary materials and every dose of transfluid after that is stored in the gestation tank for the protoform.

Which brings me to the idea that I have seen on AO3 where bots go into heat:

What if a mech goes into heat as a way to store transfluid from their partner?

I am largely talking out of my ass here because I don't know anything about how machines work, but I know there are a lot of hormones and signals and work that goes into human pregnancy.

The downside of this is that, if all bots were once forged and now they are, let's say, "birthed", then these constructs would be artificial: the gestation tank and the fertile centripetal force with its satellite sparkling and the interface array with its gestational passage and the nannyites and the transfluid. These would have to be constructed cold and surgically added, and you would have to create codes that turn on these cascading or stacking protocols (I don't know the correct computer term for when one event triggers another event triggers another event and so on) and you would have to manufacture filters and tanks and lines for the creation of gestational lubricant and transfluid.

This is just me rambling because I can't stop thinking about all this, but I am not ready to write a mechpreg story.

Megatron is the carrier but the sparkling(s) likes to sit and hid inside Optimus's chassis because they can see EVERYTHING they want from the inside without anyone can see them thus it's the best hiding spot from strangers and it's comfy and warm in there, plus they even have their own night lamp (it's the Matrix of Leadership) 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Obviously he then launches a raid just so he can declare directly to Optimus Prime's face that he will "track down the autobot fiend that BESMIRCHED and DEFILED his Third's honor, and separate their interfacing equipment from their body!" They didn't, until Soundwave discovered Optimus and Megatron in the nest.

When he goes to Starscream and Shockwave for help in what to do Starscream immediately snitches to the rest of the Decepticons, obviously. And three fronts form

Those who think like Starscream, who consider Megatron a traitor and that he should be killed.

Those who think like Soundwave, who don't know what to do and leave with the neutrals.

Those who think like Shockwave, who think that the first carrier and sparklings they had in over two million years should be protected for the good of the species.

Those who still follow Megatron form a united front against the Quintessons with the Autobots and basically go "Hey man this ain't half bad"

And that's how a tentative peace starts to form

When Cybertronians carry their body gets warmer because the sparkling needs warmth to survive. If a carrier complains about being cold it's not a good sign. Rodimus complains about being freezing cold and Soundwave is worried.

- Rodimus and Soundwave learn he’s sparked because he got so cold.

- Rodimus was on warming stimulants to help gain his frame heat back and it worked for a few months. But by the time he was entering his second trimester of four, the stimulants stopped working and he was left with a dulling frame that began to grow colder by the minute.

- the only cure to Rodimus losing heat?

- Soundwave, the sire, holding him.

- carriers need the body heat of their sire both for temperature regulation along with spark energy transfers. The sires heat also helps the sparklings development.

- rodimus is put on berth rest and Soundwave is given leave to work from their home.

- soundwave makes sure Rodimus is warm and cozy inside their nest right next to him.

(314) Today's fic idea is a novel system of cybertronian reproduction: sexual reproduction, for a cybertronian, involves a process of igniting and then nurturing a spark next to one's own until it is just about large enough to sustain itself, and then sacrificing one's own elemental metals and sentio metallico to create a tiny, savage little thing that is — at least in the beginning — mostly teeth. They then eat their way out of their parent over the course of about a year.

Cybertronian young (sparklings, also affectionately called "teethlings," "bolt-biters," or "the bane of my fragging existence,") then spend their early years gnawing on and consuming metal around them. Their parent is always the biggest, biologically safest, and most nutrient dense source of such material, so that is what they eat and it is up to their parent to prevent them from chewing through anything too important (accidents are common). After about a decade of this, they have absorbed enough resources for their nanites to construct a more complex processor, so they start distinguishing themselves with more significant personality traits.

Given the pain, inconvenience and resource intense nature of this process, it's little wonder cybertronians have historically chosen to reproduce non-sexually — you know, the religious way. Thanks be to Primus, etc., etc. As a species that invests so very much in its young through this method, it would be particularly disadvantageous to attempt it in an active war zone.

Only... the hot spots are gone. Vector Sigma is a long way away and might be gone, too. The allspark is lost. And a lot of cybertronians have died. Their numbers are dwindling.

When it starts to seem less like insanity and more like your only option, what do you do? Well, if you're an Autobot, you ask for volunteers. And Optimus Prime would never ask his people to volunteer for a process he won't undertake himself.
