Lockwood doesn't even finish the sentiment. He doesn't have to. They both know.

And gosh, suddenly he realizes he hasn't been there for him like he should. They both realize it. They both realize they have let him slip between their fingers, unacknowledged, taken for granted. With sudden terror, they realize George probably doesn't know—doesn't know he's worth dying for. Doesn't know they'd do anything to make him realize how loved he is. Doesn't know that he matters. What a terrifying place to be. Lockwood and Lucy know. They've both been there.

"But if anything's worth dying for." It's not the bet. It's not the bone glass. It's not the agency, any number of cases. It's George. If anything's worth dying for, it's George.
