The Iron Ladies (2018)

The Iron Ladies is a Taiwanese drama about 3 best friends in their 30's with successful careers at an online beauty company who are at different places in their personal lives, and one young man in his 20's, Su Can, who has just moved to Taipei and is still figuring out life. Of the 3 women, Zhou Kai Ting is engaged to her boyfriend of 7 years; Ma Li Sha is divorced and only keeps it casual; Wang Qing Qing has seemingly the perfect marriage.

Personal growth of characters: 9/10. I will never get over what happened with Su Can in the last 2 episodes. 🤬 You'll know what I mean when you watch it.

Cheating bitches end up unhappy: 10000/10 Repeat after me: 👏cheaters👏are👏trash👏

Amazing friendships all around: 10/10

A woman ends the drama single and better for it: ♾️/10 We almost never see this in any shows ever. Period. We stan hot, independent women doing hot girl shit.

Overall, this drama was so well-thought out and well-developed. It's definitely a romance, but it also focuses both on the careers, friendships, and personal development of the characters. The show focuses on the importance of finding your happiness, and ugh, we need more dramas like this one.

A Wedding to Remember

Credit to @i-am-not-acting for this idea from a comment on one of my other posts. I had a major brain functionTM.

Ellie does her wandering, and comes across a beautiful Lady by the name of Gotham. The two of them hit it off, dating, and eventually, getting married. But a week before the big day, Lady Gotham has a flash of panic. She forgot to invite her Knights and Rogues! Ellie, of course, consoles her, saying she'll help her do it. Fright Knight tags along, saying it's only fair that he welcome his fellow protectors and loyal servants into the Royal Family.

And so begins a week long jumble of either Fright Knight, Ellie, or Lady Gotham giving invites to the various vigilantes and rogues within Gotham.

Mostly these are letters, inviting them to come and witness a union that will forever impact and strengthen Gotham's standing universally. Something will change Gotham as we know it, forever. Everyone who shall see will be audience to the greatest joys one could know.

Ellie is the pseudo daughter of the Reluctant King, after all. There will be a huge party, like, absolutely massive. And Lady Gotham's Joy will ripple throughout her inhabitants.

These letters, obviously, do not ease any worries. They very much compound them. Now, how any of our batfam or rogues recieve these letters is up to you, or it could be a personalized invitation! But from the beginning of the week to the day of the wedding, it's either outright chaos or paranoia setting in.

I like how honest My Lady Jane is about female ambition. Jane says she doesn’t want marriage and just wants to write her book and be independent, then she married Guildford and from then on it’s not that she doesn’t care about what she’s studied, it actually is useful many times, it’s just that there are more important things. I think women who have interests can act like giving up pursuit of an ambition for love is lowly when in reality, if you really have found deep love it isn’t the case at all, real life-changing love will do just that, shift your priorities and change what might’ve been important before to something maybe not so much anymore. It’s not that any one person should be the center of your universe, it’s that with them you begin to dream new dreams together so the older ones you may have had don’t usually fit the same anymore, like Jane learning to care more about Ethians now that she was married to one. Before she was consumed with what she wanted for herself only, being married to Guildford forced her to look beyond herself at what life looks like for him and them together and how things would have to change for them to be together and so both of their perspectives had to be rearranged. I wrote this on another post but it’s poignant to me that in her last moments before she thinks she’s going to be executed it says her last regret isn’t that she didn’t write her book or effect change for the kingdom even, it’s that she didn’t tell Guildford that what was between them was true love. I like the show for that, being realistic that love can change you from someone purely goal driven who says “I don’t need love” to someone who says “yeah having love is important to me, I think I do need that” which is where Jane was by the end. She loved Guildford enough to die for him and his love for her gave her strength, that’s powerful stuff.
