Temporary hiatus
Hi everyone! Unfortunately I have to announce a temporary writing hiatus, probably for a month.
As you know I’m in school, and I am behind because “flexible deadlines” are uhhhhhhh hard on me.
I was catching up with this shift in work annnnnddd then I got very sick. It’s difficult to describe how a cold could take me out so badly. But Friday night I fell asleep at 7, and got 15 hours was in an out of sleep expecting to feel recuperated by the morning
Unfortunately I woke up still in. Some coughing, mild sore throat, loooot of snot. I kept running low grade fevers but sometimes But my god, the exhaustion.
If I was insured I’d have probably gone to the doctor.
Afternoon of Saturday I was so lethargic as I laid on the couch ready to nap, I couldn’t raise my hand to grab my phone to set an alarm, and barely had it in me to ask my roommate in the room to take to make sure I’m up by three.
It was Friday night to Monday of fevers, restless and long periods of sleep bordering on delirium, never knowing if I awake or not
Now I suffer a terrible cough from the post- nasal drip.
Anyway all this to say I need to focus on resting, school, and then the zine projects
Our gentle sins, the prodigals, if you wanna be wild, and rooms on fire will return mid December
You can still send asks for the fundraiser game since those are short! But I’ll mostly be doing school 🥰🥰 I have a great children’s lit class I love
Thank you for your patience!!!
I feel like a sickly Victorian child :(((( it’s genuinely been terrible I have to cancel and date and plans with friends to see the new gladiator

STOP DOING THIS IN INJURY FICS!!
Bleeding:
Blood is warm. if blood is cold, you're really fucking feverish or the person is dead. it's only sticky after it coagulates.
It smells! like iron, obv, but very metallic. heavy blood loss has a really potent smell, someone will notice.
Unless in a state of shock or fight-flight mode, a character will know they're bleeding. stop with the 'i didn't even feel it' yeah you did. drowsiness, confusion, pale complexion, nausea, clumsiness, and memory loss are symptoms to include.
blood flow ebbs. sometimes it's really gushin', other times it's a trickle. could be the same wound at different points.
it's slow. use this to your advantage! more sad writer times hehehe.
Stab wounds:
I have been mildly impaled with rebar on an occasion, so let me explain from experience. being stabbed is bizarre af. your body is soft. you can squish it, feel it jiggle when you move. whatever just stabbed you? not jiggly. it feels stiff and numb after the pain fades. often, stab wounds lead to nerve damage. hands, arms, feet, neck, all have more motor nerve clusters than the torso. fingers may go numb or useless if a tendon is nicked.
also, bleeding takes FOREVER to stop, as mentioned above.
if the wound has an exit wound, like a bullet clean through or a spear through the whole limb, DONT REMOVE THE OBJECT. character will die. leave it, bandage around it. could be a good opportunity for some touchy touchy :)
whump writers - good opportunity for caretaker angst and fluff w/ trying to manhandle whumpee into a good position to access both sites
Concussion:
despite the amnesia and confusion, people ain't that articulate. even if they're mumbling about how much they love (person) - if that's ur trope - or a secret, it's gonna make no sense. garbled nonsense, no full sentences, just a coupla words here and there.
if the concussion is mild, they're gonna feel fine. until....bam! out like a light. kinda funny to witness, but also a good time for some caretaking fluff.
Fever:
you die at 106F (40.5C). no 'oh no his fever is 107F!! ahhh!" no his fever is 0F because he's fucking dead. you lose consciousness around 103, sometimes less if it's a child. brain damage occurs at over 104.
ACTUAL SYMPTOMS:
sluggishness
inability to speak clearly
feeling chilly/shivering
nausea
pain
delirium
symptoms increase as fever rises. slow build that secret sickness! feverish people can be irritable, maybe a bit of sass followed by some hurt/comfort. never hurt anybody.
fevers are a big deal! bad shit can happen! milk that till its dry (chill out) and get some good hurt/comfort whumpee shit.
keep writing u sadistic nerds xox love you
also - this post was not an invitation to share a bunch of enormously traumatic stories. stop messaging me things like 'related to ur last post' and then it's a really upsetting recount of an assault you experienced. this is a writing blog, not a medical newsletter. I'm muting the notifs because I don't like seeing it pop up in my feed - if you have a genuine writing question, please dm me, i'd love to hear it. thank you.

I thought elders could use some randomness in their final fate. Made 3 semi-random events for them:
live longer
die early
get sick
Early death branches into:
sudden "heart attack" followed by - death by fright, or - death by drowning if they happened to be swimming at the time
decreased age duration followed by death of old age the next day or so
At first, it was going to be sort of a coin flip once a day deciding whether a playable elder dies prematurely, or gets an additional day of life, or keeps living for the allotted time. Turned out a little more detailed and configurable
Tumblr media
Sickness is not as impactful, just something to highlight old age problems. It's a maxis style disease curable by soup and rest (thinking of realistic medical conditions made me sad and I stopped)

B has been feeling a little weird all day. A little shivery, a little tired, a little achey, starting to get sniffly, but overall okay. They don’t feel sick per se, just a little off.
Cut to B having a little movie night with their partner A, who is cradling B’s head in their lap. A is carding softly through their hair as they feel B’s breathing start to grow deeper and slower. They smile and move their fingers down towards B’s eyes, only to brush their forehead and stop. Is it just them, or is B feeling a little warm? They move their hand to B’s cheek, their other cupping the nape of their neck.
“You feeling okay? You feel really warm,” A asked, feeling B roll a little bit in their lap.
B mumbled something before burying their hot face deeper into the blankets and sniffling liquidly.
“Aw honey, let me get you some Tylenol so you can get some rest.”

"You're sick."
"Yeah," the hero coughed, their voice raspy. "I know that."
"Then why are you still out working?" The villain grabbed the tissue box off the dresser and held it out for the hero, who reached over from their bed and snatched a tissue.
"You know why." The hero blew their nose into the tissue and sniffed, setting it aside. "The city needs me."
"The city needs you to get better."
"I can't sit here bedridden while villains like you are running around."
The villain's eyes widened, then shifted to the side in contemplation. They hummed in thought, a slow smirk growing on their face. "You know what?" They crossed their arms. "Fine. Until I deem you well enough to get back out there—" The villain flashed a sharp grin, and the hero raised a brow. "—I'll be playing hero."
