the idea that jc is the main character of mdzs is so nonsensical its almost laughable to me honestly. he couldve been /a/ main character if mxtx had focused the narration around both wwx and him. it wouldve changed the story to be the tale of two brothers instead of being primarily a love story but all the components of the existing story couldve remained intact as one half of a two sided story. however even then he wouldve been one of two main characters. ive thought quite a bit about it over the years since i read mdzs and i cannot think of any way to tell the events of the story with jc as Thee Main Characterâ˘. the main plot is driven by solving a mystery that jc had a passing knowledge of, at best, so even if mxtx had focused the pov entirely around jc the way she did wwx, it would be debatable if he was actually the main protagonist or if he functioned as an outsider pov to the main events. i mean that wouldve been an incredibly interesting choice and i wouldve had sooooo many Thoughts about how heâs barely the protagonist in his own story, but thats not the choice mxtx made
#im not a jc hater hes one of my favorite side characters but he is a side character and youre fooling yourself if you believe hes the mc#the main plot is solving nmjâs murderâ the process of investigating it is what frames the flashbacks to wwxâs first life#yeah one could say âif jc was the mc nmjâs murder wouldntve been as importantâ but that would fundamentally change the story#âif jc was the mc the story would very differentâ proves the jc isnt the main character#jc is undeniably a very important character who heavily influences the plot but he is not the main character#i want to study him like a bug but he is not involved in the main framing device and only a main player in one of the main themes (debts)#he is marginally involved with the themes about reputation and morality but as an outsider judging WWXâS reputation and morality#hes only mentioned as much as he is in the narration bc wwx loves him so much/feels so indebted to him#he was fooled by wwxâs facade too. he believed wwx had gone badâ he wouldve been extremely ineffective at pealing back the layers of it#wwx is so painfully the main character its kinda ridiculous#retelling mdzs from jcâs perspective is a excellent framing for a fic or a spinoff story but thats BECAUSE he is a side character#mdzs#mdzs thoughts#mine#the brightside to having a weird character tag for mine means i can tag this for him without sticking this in the main tag#jcwy#i am truly sorry if this ends up in his tag anyway i intentionally never spelled out his name to help prevent it

Ok I posted about this in anger a while back but I'm gonna say it more intelligently and actually tag it because I think it's something people need to hear. Something that bugs me about how people talk about the morality of the men in this game is that a lot of analysis totally glosses over Anya's motives and what she actually asks of people, and in doing so once again strips her of agency. Like. The reason Curly sucks isn't because he failed to properly punish Jimmy, it's because he ignored Anya in favor of her abuser. He didn't listen to her regarding how to move forward, he didn't give her a way to protect herself. No matter what he would have done to Jimmy, Anya is still traumatized and in danger, and that's the most important point of failure.
I think a lot of people are projecting a revenge fantasy on Anya, and while I'm not gonna argue about the validity of revenge here, for Anya specifically I think that's a major mischaracterization. She's the one who says that our worst moments don't make us monsters. And while yes, this could just be her trying to appease her abusers, she still doesn't strike me as a particularly vindictive person. She's a nurse, symbolically in a role associated with care and healing. Before the crash, she seems like a very soft-spoken and restrained person. Hell, she can't stand giving Curly his meds because she feels so bad for him. There isn't really a point in the game where she calls for violence at all. And even if punishing Jimmy or Curly is morally correct (subjective), saying that it's what anyone Should have done still glosses over Anya's wants and needs. It still centers the abuser, even in vitriol.
It's especially weird to see people judge Swansea on these grounds, because like... We don't know what his dynamic with Anya was like. We don't actually know what she said to him, if she even confided about her pregnancy or the SA at all! I honestly think Swansea's actions give more credence to the idea that Anya herself wanted a peaceful resolution. The whole "Oh, I'm holding it together" thing, him becoming more hostile after speaking with Anya... He waits until Daisuke AND ANYA are dead before trying to kill Jimmy. I think the obvious reading is that he wants Jimmy dead, but Anya asked him not to do anything crazy. Genuinely, I think Anya just wanted to be safe. She wanted out above everything. She didn't want more violence. The only violence she commits is against herself in the end, in order to escape this hell her coworkers made for her.
And like. Swansea is kind of the only one who actually did try to protect Anya in a meaningful way. I won't say that he couldn't have done more for her - all of the men on that ship failed her in some regard - but Swansea intentionally keeps the axe out of Jimmy's hands. He keeps the pod a secret, probably to give to Daisuke, but we can't say anything for sure. I joke that Swansea should have killed Jimmy from the start, but if we're being real that would have been an insane thing to do given what the characters know. But Swansea isn't the point of this post. Like. Idk I just think it's really bizarre that when people discuss Anya's assault, they still do it from the perspective of the men involved. It's weird and I don't like it. Like people have said before me: it's not enough to hate abusers, you have to love victims.

How do Canadian schools teach about indigenous Canadian history and culture? -a curious USAmerican
In my experience we learned about colonization at the same time as we learned about the formation of Canada. At first it was "European settlers came and pushed out the indigenous population", then in the higher grades we learned more about the how and the why.
For example, how carts full of men with rifles would ride around shooting Buffalo, then leaving the meat on the ground to rot, because "a dead Buffalo is a dead indian", which was so fanatical it almost wiped out wild Buffalo entirely
Also how Canadian settlers were lured in with beautiful hand-painted advertisements for cheap, beautiful, fertile land that was unpopulated and perfect, if only you'd sail over with your entire family and a pocket full of seeds- only to be met with scared, confused, and angry lawful inhabitants already run out of ten other places, and frigid winters, and rocky, forested, undeveloped dirt.
also, smallpox blankets, where "gifts" of blankets infected with smallpox were intentionally given out
And treaty violations- Either ignoring written agreements entirely, or buying them out at insanely low prices and lying about the value, or trading for farming equipment that they couldn't use because they weren't farmers.
Then in the first world war, where they told indigenous peoples here that they'd be granted Canadian citizenship if they enlisted
To Residential schools, which was straight up stealing kids for slavery, indoctrination, and medical experiments
But we also covered the building of the Canadian Railway in which Chinese immigrants were lowered into ravines with dynamite to blow out paths through the mountain for pennies on the dollar
And the Alberta Sterilization Act, where it was lawful and routine procedure to sterilize women of colour and neurodivergent people without their awareness or consent after giving birth or undergoing unrelated surgeries
But I'm rambling.
We kind of learned Aboriginal history at the same time as everything else? Like. This is when Canada was made, and this is how it was done. Now we'll read a book about someone who lived through it, and we'll write a book report. And now a documentary, and now a paper about the documentary. Onto the next unit.
And starting I think in grade 10 our English track was split between English and Aboriginals English, where you could choose to do the standard curriculum or do the same basic knowledge stuff with a focus on Aboriginal perspectives and literature. (I did that one, we read Three Day's Road and Diary Of A Part-Time Indian, and a few other titles I don't remember.)
There was also a lunch room for the Aboriginal Culture Studies where Aboriginal kids could hang out at lunch time if they wanted, full of art and projects and stuff. They'd play music or videos sometimes, that was cool
And one elective I took (not mandatory cirriculum) was a Kwakiutl course for basic KwakwakaĘźwakw language. Greetings, counting to a hundred, learning the modified alphabet, animals, etc. Still comes in handy sometimes at large gatherings cause they usually start with a land recognition thanking whoever's land we're on, with a few thanks and welcomes in their language.
And like- when I was in the US it was so weird, cause here we have Totem poles and longhouses and murals all over and yall... don't? Like there is a very distinct lack of Aboriginal art in your public spaces, at least in the areas I've been
My ex-stepfather, who was American, brought his son out once, and he was so excited to "see real indians" and was legitimately shocked to learn that there weren't many teepees to be found on the northwest coast, and was even *more* shocked when we told him that you have Aboriginal people back home too, bud. Your Aboriginal people are also named "Mike" snd "Vicky" and work as assistant manager at best buy.
If you'd ask me, I'd say that the primary difference is that USAmerica (from what I've seen, and ALSO in entirely too much of Canada) treats our European and Aboriginal conflicts as history, something that's tragic but over, like the extinction of the mammoths, instead of like. An ongoing thing involving people who are alive and numerous and right fucking here
But at the end of the day, I'm white, and there are plenty of actual Aboriginal people who are speaking out and saying much more meaningful things than I can
So I'm just gonna pass on a quote from my Stepmum, who's Cree, that's stuck with me since she said it:
"You see how they treat Mexicans in America? That's how they treat us here. Indians are the Mexicans of Canada."

Can you elaborate on what you meant with that ashen post? What do quadrant misunderstandings have to do with Eridan
oh my god, absolutely.
first of all, the fandom seemed to take eridan at his word when he said moirallegiance was a lesser romance akin to a friendzone; that's its own problem.
but in relation to blackrom: the toxic, horrible behavior that eridan displays in his flirting is often taken by fans to prove that kismesissitude is an inherently abusive, unnatural quadrant that the empire forces young trolls into. but this is incorrect.
as stated by multiple characters in-text AND by andrew hussie later: this behavior is not pitch at all. it's ashen flirting.
feferi calls out how transparent this bullshit is instantly. terezi, too, gets caught up in this when eridan decides to drag her into it, but she is also not having his shit. both of them read him for how fake he is. and that's not even going into how completely uninterested sollux was in this ârivalryâ.
hussie, in the commentary, also states that eridan's obviously outrageous behavior is basically textbook for an ashen solicitation.
i feel that it's also worth mentioning that when eridan had a real kismesis, his relationship with her was amiable, and they even supported each other as teammates and allies in their campaigns. the second she gets bored of him, eridan starts pretending their relationship is volatile and going to âbecome murderousâ to get kanaya to auspistize for him⌠sound familiar?Â
and now here is what eridan looks like when he's actually pitch flirting. notice how despite his obvious assholery, eridan also tries to treat her with weird respect and pay her compliments? there's a noticeable difference between how eridan treats someone he actually has a pitch thing for and how he treats sollux.
eridan is intentionally going way over the line, to goad people into stopping him. i discussed this before in reference to vriska/kanaya/tavros, but trolls actually seemingly don't want their relationships to become unpleasant. they have an entire quadrant dedicated to intervening if they think a relationship isn't healthy. and the relationship going extremely toxic is attributed to a failure of auspisticism, not a natural facet of pitch romance.
this is what eridan's treatment of sollux is. it's unhealthy, by troll standards. which is saying something! it says that trolls have standards for blackrom; standards that make them think trolls like vriska, gamzee and eridan are going too far.Â
so that's what my funny little image was trying to encapsulate. that fandom has such a blind spot when it comes to ashen relationships that it makes them misinterpret pitch romance as well. they forget that it's literally proven in-comic that trolls don't accept shit tons of toxicity as normal in their romance. (of course it gets a little more complicated when caste dynamics are introduced, but in the end other trolls still wish to auspistize in cases like terezi/gamzee.)Â
ashen romance has a purpose, and people straight up refusing to acknowledge one of the four romances in the four romance system throws their perspective of the entire thing off balance.
#oh god this got so long fuck .i didnt mean to go on FOREVER lmfao#auspisticism#kismesissitude#quadrants#hsmeta#op

#projection is like my number one enemy and she is always wearing camouflage... i do this with both negatives and positives#it's very difficult for me to understand where the border between myself and others is. my perspective is lacking#on rationalization -> see the posts i made regarding hypocrisy and theory of mind. linked them (relevant for projection also)#rationalize nothing. find reality and then accept it good and bad. you waste your most precious resources otherwise. time and energy#regression also yes but i try to be aware of that... like when i was saying i've been triggered for months that's a huge part of it#*traumatic or extremely stressful event* *gets hit with the rejuvenator* ... like i literally have to remind myself wtaf#i absolutely hate that that is something i deal with i hate it...#i'm usually aware of when i'm in denial about something as stupid as that sounds because i will just avoid thinking about it lol...#i think about everything way too much so it's a noticeable absence. but there are things behind the curtain too which !!!!! pmo#but i broach the topic when necessary... it's the assessment of when and how necessary it is that i struggle with. i try to avoid denial#but that bitch wears camo too sometimes...!#displacement yeah but i always take it out on myself unless it's really fucking bad and at that point i should really just ask for help#asking for help is so hard i need to work on that. especially now ghhhhhhhhh#i think the idea that i'm self aware is counterintuitive in itself i just try really hard#and i had been in therapy for so fucking long doing this shit that it just feels weird not to#pursuit of self awareness isn't actually self awareness... it can lead you in the opposite direction if you are not careful. main gripe w#a lot of my therapists. they just kept leading me in the wrong fucking directions. the power imbalance in therapy makes it useless for me#i am not going back unless i find someone who can actually understand me enough to not be accidentally or carelessly forcing#their own/society's mentality on me. of the two therapists i have any respect for it stands out to me that they LISTENED & treated me EQUAL#like when i showed up one day not able to DO therapy that day bc i was hysterical and he just sat beside me for like 30 minutes#sharing presence. instead of trying to tell me to calm down or doing shit on his computer. he just sat with me in it. intentionally created#space for me to experience my emotions & made it clear that he was holding that for me as an equal by sitting beside me. i fucking HATED it#...but appreciate a lot in retrospect... he chose to believe me & do what would be the most helpful to me in a moment where Nothing Was#every other therapist ive ever had wouldve not taken me srs that all i could do that day was show up & tried to force me to do work#triggered me even more to the point i dissociate/disconnect to be able to calm down & then judged me as noncompliant on top of it#i feel like this helps clear the picture a little esp considering displacement and my history of sh#i have really really always tried my best not to hurt anyone#anyone i have intentionally hurt probably deserved at least 80% of it#<- not a rationalization literally just an ugly truth. because i let it get that far... so it's still on me in the end#z

How The Owl House did amputee representation right before Eda ever lost her arm - Disability in Media
[ID: A screenshot of Eda from The Owl House, an old woman with pale skin, very large, grey hair and pointed ears in a red dress. Beside the screenshot on a dark pink background is text that reads "Disability in media, How the Owl House got amputee representation right before eda ever lost her arm." /End ID]
Dana Terrace's The Owl House has some of the best disability rep Iâve seen on a Disney channel show in a long time, with Eda, the main characterâs mentor, being one of many stand-out examples.
Plenty of people have discussed how Edaâs curse and the loss of her magic can work as an allegory for disability and how refreshing it is to see a story (especially one aimed at a younger audience) whoâs focus is not on her âovercomingâ it, but learning to accept it as a part of her and go from there. Edaâs story tackles a lot of subjects that are often mishandled in other examples of disability representation, from the subject of parents who refuse to accept, to glass siblings and much, much more, The Owl House handles all these topics beautifully.
But one thing that dawned on me during my most recent re-watch of The Owl House is how well Eda (and later Lilith) worked as amputee representation, long before Eda actually lost her arm.
One of the side effects of Eda and Lilithâs curse is that sometimes their body parts, mainly their limbs, can fall off. It doesnât hurt them, and Eda is seen removing them intentionally at multiple times in the series, but they can always be reattached.
[ID: an image of Eda holding her sister Lilith's hand. Lilith is a pale woman with long, black hair, wearing grey clothes. She is looking at her other arm suprised, as her hand is missing. Luz, a Latina girl with short brown hair and a purple hoodie is looking on, smiling. /End ID]
While most likely unintentional, the way the show depicts this with Eda in particular is exactly what I wish more people would do with their prosthetic-using amputee characters.
Eda detaches her limbs, especially her legs, when theyâre inconvenient or when sheâs relaxing.
[ID: an image of Eda laying on the couch in a bathrobe, her hair in a towel. She has taken her legs off, throwing them to the other side of the seat. /End ID]
The fact that this is mostly played for laughs is actually a good thing in my opinion (though obviously, the showâs overall tone is part of that), as it shows the audience who are mostly children and teens, that in a world of weird and downright scary (from the perspective of the characters) things, this isn't one of them. Itâs just a thing she and Lilith can do, and it can even be funny.
[ID: An image of Luz and Eda dressed as pirates. Eda is sitting on the ground, her legs detached and off screen somewhere. /End ID]
It does startle Luz and Lilith on a few occasions, but thatâs more because they didnât know the curse could do that, but once theyâre introduced to it, itâs never really brought up as a big deal again.
Iâd love to see more amputee characters who do this with their prosthetics. So often media is almost afraid to have amputees take their prosthetics off on camera or on the page. For some folks, our prosthetics are like a part of our bodies, but that doesnât mean we never take them off. Show your leg amputee flop on the couch and throw their legs across the room. Have them go without on occasion, not because they have to, but because they just donât feel like putting them on.
Likewise, the owl house creators never shy away from showing Eda when her limbs arenât all attached. A lot of media, and kidâs shows in particular, will avoid having an amputee characterâs stump visible if they ever do take their prosthetics off - treating that part of the characterâs body the same way they treat gore or nudity. Iâve talked before how this actually does have a real impact on how kids in particular react to amputees - Iâve legitimately had kids I worked with cry when I took my prosthetics off, then immediately calm down when they see thereâs nothing "scary" under my socks. As much as I love How To Train Your Dragon, itâs very guilty of this. Hiccup looses his leg at the end of the first movie, and wakes up with his prosthetic already attached. The Netflix series has a few instances where he has his prosthetic off, but the camera almost always avoids showing it until he can cover it up again, or is super zoomed-out so you wouldnât be able to âsee anythingâ. To their credit, they do get better with this in the last movie (though it's still always covered), but for the majority of the series, they are very reluctant to have any shots where hiccupâs leg is in view without the prosthetic (unless theyâre very far away).
[ID: a screenshot of Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon 3, a white man with short brown hair, and one leg missing, wearing armour made of black dragon scales and no prosthetic. He is holding onto toothless's head, a black dragon. /End ID]
Ironically, Eda does (permanently) loose an arm at the end of season 2, but I donât really have much to say about her as amputee representation on that front, since sheâs absent for a lot of Season 3, and when we do see her again, everything is so hectic, the story doesnât really have any time to focus on her missing limb (which is reasonable). I will say, I do appreciate that they kept the amputation when she's in her owl-beast form in the finale, but there's honestly not much more to say about it. We do see her again in the epilogue after sheâs had some time to settle into the amputation, wearing a hook prosthetic, but itâs, once again, too quick to really say anything from a representation standpoint. There's a few little nit-picky things I could bring up, like the fact they seemed to change the type on amputation she had (when she looses it, we see the split was very close to the elbow, but in the epilogue she has most of her forearm again) but those read to me more like animation mistakes or an odd prosthetic/clothing designs rather than a representation issue - and as someone who's worked in animation, given the stress the team was under for the finale, I'm not really worried about it. Like I said, it's more nit-picky than anything.
[ID: A screenshot of Eda, her hair tied back and wearing a red robe and a hook for her right hand. /End ID]
Despite all that though, I still think Eda is still good amputee representation, but mostly because of how they depict her curseâs side effects rather than her actual amputation. Sheâs honestly one of the only characters that I think you could refer to as âamputee codedâ (outside of maybe Teen Titanâs Cyborg), and I genuinely wish more creators would treat their actual amputee characters the same way the Owl House treats Eda in that regard.

Hi. It's me again.
WHERE THE FRICK IS BUMBLEBEE?! Sorry, let me calm down and retry.
Thank you for answering my last ask, I can't help but notice how no one knows where Bee's ghost is. And Megatron is the one looking into the Matrix... Is he haunting Megatron? Trying to stop him from doing it? Helping him?
Is Optimus's ghost following Ratchet around like a sad puppy?
Also just the pairings- Jazz with Megatronus? THat sounds... like fun.
Do the primes miss the other Primes and ask their host if they can check on the other bots that got shrapeneled? Maybe one of them asks if they can find a way to talk with the others... or maybe they can talk trough the hosts... maybe... (ah ah possessed arc)
(PS I really vibe with Hive's whole deal, he is very cool :D and I'm devastated that I'm the one that discovered how he explodes)
Hug hug!
Hi again!!! Don't worry, Bee is still here!
His spirit is just...struggling. He's weak at first, flickering like a dying light bulb. He hasn't left the fractured core of the Matrix still in his corpse, but his soul signature is so weak no one can find him. He's just sort of trapped there for a while, in the burnt out room he died in. Until Megatron of course.
Megatron breaks into the autobot base, walks past every sleeping mech he could easily have snuffed, and steals the Matrix core, and by unintentional extension, steals Bumblebee. Now at first, Bee is rightfully upset. He hates being at the gloomy decepticon base, he hates Megatron for taking his voice, he's just mad. Time passes as Megatron tinkers with the core, and Bee regains strength enough to....throw things???
It shouldn't be possible. Somehow this unstable remnant of the Matrix doesn't contain him, but merely houses him, and as he grows stronger, he can appear as an apparition to Megatron. He uses it almost solely to hinder him. With no voice (even ghost Bee gets no respite) all he can really do is mess up Megatron's workspace and insult him through pantomime. Really he doesn't understand why Megatron puts up with it, but aside from the occasional fit of rage at his antics, the decepticon leader ignores him as much as possible and puts his all into trying to restore the Matrix.
Before long he starts having one sided conversations with Bumblebee. Its mostly complaints at first, and insults towards him and the autobots and whatever else goes wrong in his life outside of this little workshop Bee cant leave. It soon gives way to more private matters; intentionally or not, Megatron is revealing his very convoluted, very mixed feelings about Optimus Prime.
The war has gone on too long, why couldn't that idiot just see things from his perspective, he deserved to die, he will be brought back, how could his oldest friend just leave him like this...
To Bee it sounds...exactly like how Optimus felt about Megatron, just drowned in molten anger issues. Against his self preservation instinct, Bee decides to work towards putting this whole mess to bed. Nothing better to do.
With what limited knowledge and communication he has, he does his best to try and help Megatron fix the Matrix. They have spats still, and plenty of set backs, but things smooth over when Megatron (begrudgingly) admits to feelings of regret over taking Bee's voice. As an olive branch, Bee explains something to Megatron that he's been dying to know: how Optimus died.
Things sour fast. Megatron is determined to murder Starscream, Bee is frustratedly trying to explain that if he does so, this little partnership of convenience is over, and he will ensure that the Matrix is never restored. The end of the war relies almost solely on Megatron reeling in his damn anger, and Bee doesnt intend to allow any slip ups. He has no idea how this will end when Megatron leaves the workshop that night.
On the other side of things, the Primes are having a real...weird time?? The ones without hosts can communicate with each other, but the other four are basically cut off from all but their hosts. They don't have the ability to take control anymore, and even if they did, their hosts are nowhere near as easy to possess, nor as willing, as Hive Prime was. Ratchet especially has threatened to tear the Matrix metal from his frame and grind it to dust if Prima so much as thinks about trying it. The other three hosts are similarly put off.
Once again the Primes are relegated to giving advice, but it's not advice anyone seems to want, and yeah, it's mostly because of the wild pairings. Megatronus is constantly clutching his pearls over Jazz's laid-back attitude and deliberate ignorance of his wishes. Prima's calm rationality does little to temper Ratchet's snappy demeanor and only really gets on his nerves (how can you be so calm after what you all did?). Ironhide straight up refuses to acknowledge Quintus. Drift is probably the only one feeling alright with all this. Alpha Trion is generally reasonable, and isn't interested in having control over Drift's form, nor was he interested in it with Hive, so they just vibe like college roommates.
It's uncomfortable, but the Primes are used to sharing space. The worst part is actually sharing it with fewer mechs than usual. The Primes all miss each other to varying degrees, but for the most part are either too egotistical to admit it, or think it improper to mention.
Of course, grand prize for worst ghost time currently goes to Optimus. Dying, watching Bee suffer, feeling his friend's life force extinguish...
He might as well be a husk right now, full on silent treatment is all he's capable of at the moment. The other Primes know better than to try and speak with him. This is their doing to begin with, the channeling of their energy that strained Bee so heavily. Optimus follows the elected council around during the days, but at night he sits outside the room where Hive's body rests. He was there the night that Megatron broke in.
It takes immense effort to travel far enough out from the base to go see Megatron, and he needs several cycles to recover after every attempt, but he keeps doing it, knowing he could fade away permanently. When he gets there, he's too weak for Bee or Megatron to detect him. But he can hear their talks. He misses them both more than words can say.
(Sorry the response is so long, lol. This ask really got the gears turning in my head. I hope at least that makes up for being the one to find out that Ending 3 Hive dies bloody. I'm really flattered to hear you like him! For me that's quite high praise coming from you. Hug hug!)

i donât know if this is something Jojo is doing on purpose, or if it was an intentional detail but i grabbed and ran away with it, or if Iâve just completely read far to into things and entered the realm of just making shit up, but Warriors and his little crooked smile are so GODDAMN important to me and I am shaking him like a squeak toy (gently)
(big yap/analysis under the cut)
disclaimer, i just have a lot of thoughts, probably way too many thoughts, and 97% of them are about Wars so I might be insane, and what youâre about to read provided youâve stuck around so far might be the equivalent of your high school english teacher yelling with tears in their eyes about how the curtains were blue to âsymbolize her sadnessâ. also my apologies for weird spelling mistakes or oddly misspelled words, i am dyslexic đ but with that being said:
Warriors to me comes off as someone whoâs constantly acting larger than life. He masks a LOT in front of the chain, he acts overdramatic and a bit ridiculous on purpose, and to an extent he just is a bit ridiculous, but his reactions to things are sometimes blow way out of proportion or are just larger than life in a comedic way where it just seems like heâs doing it intentionally. He comes across as a very extroverted, talkative person, and he seems like heâd honestly be a bit loud too (whether thatâs who is REALLY is or what heâs REALLY like is a yap for another post). His (physical) image and the way his character/personality is perceived by others both seem like things that are not his CORE values or the things that mean the most to him, but they do seem to be at least a LITTLE bit important to him just based on how he presents himself and the way he acts. And to an extent, the whole thing with him caring so much about his looks is canon in LU, with that one sketch of him and Legend where heâs looking at his eye in a reflection of a shield and Legend says âalright break it up you twoâ being the first thing that comes to mind (which is in the post âMirror Shieldâ, click the name for the link)
To me, from what Iâve seen and from my perspective, there are very few times we see an actual genuine smile from Warriors, and when we do it tends to be in moments where heâs not in the spotlight, heâs not trying to command the center of attention, and/or the focus is NOT on him. It tends to be moments where he just seems genuinely happy or at peace, and those seem pretty rare. He smiles a LOT, but the majority of his smiles seem big and flashy and performative, and not that that means heâs not happy AT ALL in any of those moments, but those smiles seem a lot more controlled and closely managed because heâs aware of the attention on him and therefore thinking about how heâs perceived. (Iâve made some posts in the past and Iâll probably make others in the future about how I think Warriors puts on this âCaptainâ or âHero of Hyruleâ persona because of how an entire war was started because a sorceress found him beautiful, and how he feels like him being just him isnât really good enough for that and how he feels like he needs to fit in and look/act/seem like the legendary heroes heâs being compared to. Heâs created this idea of what he COULD be and thatâs what he presents to others, fake it till you make it and all that, but thats another yap for another day)
However there are these little moments where we see him smile, and the same one side of his mouth is pretty consistently always just a little bit higher no matter which way his head is facing (hereâs a few examples):
@/linkeduniverse, from the 2023 monthly art, âJanuary- Cold Sunriseâ

@/linkeduniverse, both from âDawn pt. 2â
And the thing that really started this whole headcanon of mine that his REAL smile is crooked was this specific part of Dawn pt. 2 where Warriors sees that Twilight is gonna be find for the first time after most likely worrying about him and being up all night:
That middle panel, to me at least, is probably the most genuine expression of a positive emotion weâve seen from him this entire time. No oneâs focus is on him, no oneâs really looking at him, he doesnât have the pressure of being the center of attention on him, and honestly even if that WERE the case, the genuine relief that hit him once he was Twilight was gonna be okay probably wouldâve been enough to get a genuine smile out of him anyways. But the second he walks into the room officially, he kinda, for lack of a better way to put it, announces his presence and starts âactingâ again (also from Dawn pt 2):
And while that same one side of his mouth does seem a bit higher and not very straight, itâs definitely more even than it was just five seconds previously
Now, acknowledging there is an art style, and that I also just might be insane, but Warriorsâs smiles for the most part (when they seem controlled) appear to be a Lot straighter and more even to me than when itâs a more genuine moment and he doesnât seem like heâs âactingâ so much (and just a note: it certainly isnât EVERY time, but in general, in moments like these his smile seems consistently straighter unless heâs just flat out smirking. and im not saying itâs PERFECTLY straight either, just noticeably more even). When heâs being more dramatic or intentionally obnoxious or the attention is on him, it really does feel like his smile is more controlled: here are just a few examples, obviously this isnât every single time heâs smiled in all of LU

@/linkeduniverse, from âSwordsâ

@/linkeduniverse, from âShady Escape pt 2â

@/linkeduniverse, from âDivine Dark Reflections pt. 8â

@/linkeduniverse, both from âMagic Swordâ
am i looking too far into a little thing? probably. am i insane? yeah. but i just really love the idea that when Warriors is truly, genuinely happy, the part of himself that he tries to hide, the sweet and caring person he hides underneath all the dramatics, that true self heâs probably kept hidden away since the start of the war whoâs been buried under insecurity and hidden because of the fear that who he is just isnt ENOUGH peaks through, and that person comes out through his happiness in the form of his smile. and yeah it does probably mean nothing and Jojo might not have done any of this on purpose, but iâm crazy, and Warriorsâs crooked little smile is so so important to me *insert image of a guy crying face down on the floor because unfortunately iâve hit the image limit*

genuine question does any writing in empty spaces/dollposting actually focus on the interiority of the primary witches rather than just the dolls
nearly everything i see of the setting, time after time, is written exclusively from the dolls' perspective; even things written by those who would fill the role of Witch doesn't stray from this, as far as i've seen
this wouldn't be surprising in, say, HDG where the dom-figures are intentionally unknowable alien entities that are, from a doylist perspective, functionally plot devices for horny purposes
but in dollposting where it's theoretically a brainweird hornyqueer space about exploring angst and tenderness and relationship to a lack of humanity it's kind of weird how the 'Witches' who fill the role of the dom-equivalent tend to be assigned to only existing with relation to the Dolls they have
am i wrong with my analysis here? do we simply not follow the Correct:tm: dollposters? a lot of our system identifies quite closely with the aesthetics of the witch-archetype as is depicted by the empty spaces ouvre and it's a shame that as far as we can tell that's not explored as much as we'd like
what does it mean to willingly shoulder the burden of holding control and sway? how do these entities live, being both less than and more than human, distorted from whatever former selves they once were? how does that doll's mistress feel, in the quiet moments, when she is alone? truly alone, not just 'needing to be cheered up by her dolls'.

How do I accurately include diversity, and not make it look like Iâm just putting it in there for the sake of it?
Writing Diverse Characters - Things to Remember
Honestly, there's no definitive answer to this.
Your characters are people with clear goals, desires and a role to play in the plot. As long as they aren't just sitting there with little else but their race/gender/disability, etc. as their ONLY personality trait, at least you're on the right path.
As for representing a diverse character realistically, here are some things you can consider to get started.
Do's
RESEARCH. There are plenty of blogs/YT vids/websites that exist to help you! Meet people!
Get beta readers.
It doesn't have to be explicit. Racial identities become quite clear early on through the setting, name, and initial description(hair, eye/skin color, body shape, etc) without having to drum it into the readers each time. Gender diversity can be conveyed through the use of certain pronouns without awkward declarations.
Character first, diversity second. Please don't intentionally create a diverse character and then think about how you can push them into the cast. Have a working character, who happens to belong to a particular group.
Read works that have represented a group well. There are plenty of non-fiction works, movies and documentaries that capture the lives of people around the world with a good eye.
Use the correct terms/language
Include different types of diversity
Don'ts
Race/gender/diability is NOT a personality trait. Please. Telling me that you have a Korean girl tells me next to nothing about the character herself.
Using sterotypes. Now, it's all right if your character has a few sterotypical traits, but definitely not if sterotypes are the only thing they have.
Diversity is not a "shock factor". Suddenly revealing that a character is actually gay and has been in the closet all this time as a refresher so that it draws readers' attention? Not a good idea.
One diverse character does all. This can often be seen in female characters of slightly dated works where one woman will play the role of supportive mother, sister, femme fetale and sexy Barbie at the same time. Don't write a diverse character who basically does everything a diverse character can possibly be. All that it proves is that the writer is lazy.
Things I personally hate seeing:
Weird pronunciation of languages. As a Korean person, I always get turned off by works (mostly badly written fanfics, yes, I read those...) that try to transfer Korean dialogue directly onto the page without even checking for the correct way to spell them out. A similar example would be pinyin for Mandarin. Please, this makes the character sound stupid throughout...
Character sticking out almost painfully. If your character isn't from the region but have lived in it for a long time, what reason do they have not to blend in?
Relying on variety shows/dramas as reference. Media representation of diverse characters that are meant for entertainment is not the best source for authentic research. I die every time someone lists a number of Korean rom-coms they've watched for "research". IT DOES NOT COUNT.
As a last note, remember that there's no limit to the kind of characters a writer can writer. Accept that our job as writers is to step into other people's heads, not seeing things from one (our) perspective - and it is not going to be easy.
Hope this helps :)

can yo utalk more about how the costume designers are different?
Sure!
There are no hard-and-fast rules for telling one designer's work from another, because most designers adapt their style to the story they're tellingâa sign of a good design is if you don't notice it, because it feels so natural and a piece of the world of the movie. But I still think you can see connections and quirks in a designer's body of work that show what they specifically bring to each project.
Walter Plunkettâsense of humor. I mentioned this earlier but there's a brightness to Plunkett's work, a sense of perspective on the story he's telling and how he's translating it into clothesâSeven Brides for Seven Brothers has dresses made of Salvation Army quilts, which shows some creative thinking about how his stranded characters would build outfits from nothing; Singin' in the Rain is self referential to the silly things he wore and designed as a young man in the 20s; Gone with the Wind has that fun curtain dress, where he intentionally keeps the tassel as a tell on its origins. That kind of thing might sound easy, but keeping a sense of humor and context present in the costume design is vanishingly rare. His clothes can trend a little camp, but I think that's part of the fun.
Edith Headâhigh fashion styling. Edith's favorite movies to design for were pieces with High Fashion Momentsâ˘, things that leaned heavily on sophistication, suits, and showing the clothes as clothes. You can see this in Grace Kelly's gowns in Rear Window, Kim Novak's suit in Vertigo, Bette Davis in All About Eveâelegant designs that have minimal trim or color, that get their power from their clean lines, tailoring, and very specific detail points.
Helen Roseâalso trends toward camp, but less because of little humorous touches like Plunkett and more because of her fondness for gaudy colors and extravagant details. She rarely nails the tailored elegance of Head, but she makes up for it by going boldâher designs have a sense of big-ness to them, plus that love of color where they punch right off the screen.
Adrianâif there's a weird shoulder pad or some angular tailoring happening, Adrian is probably involved. You know Adrian's work from The Wizard of Ozâhe loves high proportions, and builds his work off of them.
Orry-KellyâI haven't found a consistent tell across his work, but if he's the designer you can tell it's going to be a banger.

Webcomic rings run by people within the community are cool and you should support them
I've been loudly struggling a little bit with corporate webcomic Stuff lately so I want to mention something positive to balance it out: webrings run by small groups of creators earnestly trying to support each other are slowly making a comeback and I for one am delighted.
If you weren't around for them in the before times, webrings were just some folks who hang out a lot who feature each other on their websites. That's literally it lmao. There's generally no money involved and it only really functions the way it's supposed to if people have control over their own websites AND genuinely want to participate and get excited about other folks' work, which means the practice has pretty well fallen by the wayside over the years in webcomic culture given. Everything. In the rare event someone decides to do something like this it's usually in the form of a link list somewhere on their website; this doesn't usually indicate any sort of mutual support, it's just a list of what the creator is reading themselves.
A webring, though, is an official banner or hub that people gather under intentionally where each member is more or less on equal footing. It's essentially the concept of "a rising tide lifts all boats" put into practice, each creator brings their own audience to the table in a passive, opt-in sort of way that's different from working for a publisher since there isn't necessarily a Top Spot or a paycheck everyone's vying for, and individuals retain autonomy over both their own work and how (if) they promote each other. You're all at your own tables in an artist alley rather than fighting over the table in the front of the book store, essentially.
I have two rings and one collective for you today!
Webcomic Ring was brought to my attention AGES ago by Holly, one of the artists featured there, and I might have brought it up at some point but I'm doing it again lmao. This is exactly the kind of thing you ought to be looking for; a small group of enthusiastic folks having a good time making their weird little comics. You probably haven't heard of much in the catalog, that's PERFECT in the context of webcomics that's where the GOOD SHIT is. Finding something like this is A Gift go dig around in the longboxes for a while.
Then a few people have pointed me in the direction of the KNIFEBEETLE collective and that's neat too! Most of the comics there are already fairly well-known, but the vibes are excellent and I haven't seen a lot of talk about the collective /itself/ outside folks already in the know. I think it's important for this sort of thing to be more visible to folks who aren't terminally steeped in webcomic culture already so here I am telling you about it. You were probably reading several of these before I suggested it, but that's how a webring works! For it to do its job you should take those bigger creators' tacit recommendation of the less popular titles as a sign to go read something new and strange. Wild, I know these are practices held over from the old internet, but I think we should try and bring them back.
Lastly, I want to mention Spiderforest, which is a collective (slightly different from a webring) BUT still a very cool project readers starved for new stuff should pay attention to.
You've probably seen Spiderforest kicking around for a long time already; they're wonderful and have always been an overall positive force in the community in my experience. They really focus on building up a community, and especially welcoming newcomers and helping them get their feet under them. Full disclosure, I've been asked to apply by a few different folks over the years and the only reason I never did is I don't have the ability to participate in their forums and such as frequently as they want their creators to; it's a very good system (from my outside perspective) that might contribute to the community staying mostly healthy in ways that art communities usually don't and I appreciate it a lot!
ANYWAYS that's all I got for now, just trying to balance out some bad feelings I've been having by talking about some good stuff. Please go binge an archive this week.
#long post#contrary to what i say i do love webcomics so fucking much#there are Reasons i'm fucking angry all the time lmao

I know we talk about Dick's insecurities about Bruce, but can we talk about Bruce's insecurities about Dick?
The man is terrified of Dick not liking him. A 30 year old is scared and lonely and loves his son so much that he wants to only show him his best sides. During the comic Bruce doesn't respond the first time when Dick tells him that his greatest fear is Batman thinking he's a failure, and I thought Bruce was just being an asshole as usual. But after rereading this panel from Bruce's perspective, I think Bruce intentionally let it go unanswered the first time because he wants Dick to keep looking up at him.
In a selfishly manipulative way, he wants Dick to continue seeking his approval so that Dick will stay by his side and turn to him and only him for everything.
While Dick always talks about the importance of Bruce to him, he fails to realize the hold he, himself, has on Bruce even now.
Dick just assumes it's because Bruce doesn't trust him but holy crap, he has no idea that it's actually because Bruce wanted Dick to trust him.
Bruce is so not normal about Dick.
It's weird that Dick had some expectation of being best man to Bruce's wedding but it's weirder that:
Bruce also thought the same! He feels guilty and admits that he was reluctant in choosing between Dick and Clark but ultimately chose Clark because, yeah, traditionally it is not exactly conventional to choose a man not your own age. Although, since he's older and has kids, he could've chosen any of his children but for some reason- it's weirdly fitting that they both expected it to be Dick.
Yet despite this situation being crazy, I don't think it has ever felt more right that they're feeling these exact emotions and are in this situation. It just feels right for them.
Dick always feels like he has something to prove with Batman but he doesn't know that Batman feels the same with him which is why they end up devolving into fights. They're living in a codependent relationship with no clear lines and that makes things very messy.
#there's a lot I want to say about Bruce and Dick's relationship but the post would be too long if I added to this one so I'll make another#dick grayson#nightwing#bruce wayne#batman#their weird relationship means everything to me#batfam

The case for (at least) two stories in GO season 2: The Kiss
I've been sitting on this for a while, but I think the time has come to share it: there are three versions of the FF kiss.... *crickets*. I know I know, we've known it since Douglas and Rob both confirmed in weird ways last year that it was filmed three times. But I think I can prove that they put two/three different kisses into that one scene that broke all our hearts. The secret, like so many in Good Omens, is hidden in the costumes. Take a close look at Aziraphale's lapels during the whole scene. I've created a handy guide to point out what is changing and put it on-screen, bottom left.
During the kiss, we're very deliberately shown Crowley pulling Aziraphale by his Bottom Lapels only. There are three shots to really hammer the concept home, and after he lets go, we see those lapels curled under as Crowley leaves.
But what happens as soon as Crowley has left? We get this closeup shot:
Where they clearly wanted his Top Lapels tucked under. I say this with a lot of confidence because throughout the two seasons, Sheen's jacket lapels are steamed between takes so they lay flat. So they want us to pick up on the small differences here (just like Crowley's tartan collar in S1) as a hint that something is wonky. And it isn't just that David might have grabbed his collar wrong in another take. As soon as the Metatron enters the bookshop, now:
For (most of) the rest of the scene he's got one of each! The change happens when Aziraphale turns away and either fixes his collar, or we maybe have changed perspective? I can't tell if Aziraphale is doing it intentionally in that moment or not, because for the other two times it happens (after Crowley leaves, and when Aziraphale looks out the window) it seems to just happen on it's own. It's a powerful moment, because lapels are the primary markers of allegiances in the universe of the show; Aziraphale is quite literally picking sides and his heart is showing on his sleeve lapel in this moment. You can read more about what that means here The reason I suspect that clothing is trying to show us multiple versions or even just perspectives of the same thing happening in-universe: it's actually happen at multiple points throughout this season, not just in the kiss.
Next up : Bildad's wardrobe shenanigans. This is going to have to be a multi-part series, but hey, almost no one is posting season 2 metas anymore so the people have to get their crack from somewhere. With thanks to everyone over in our @ineffable-detective-agency as usual.
