https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/theyre-not-human-how-19th-century-inuit-coped-with-a-real-life-invasion-of-the-walking-dead
Indigenous groups across the Americas had all encountered Europeans differently. But where other coastal groups such as the Haida or the Miā€™kmaq had met white men who were well-fed and well-dressed, the Inuit frequently encountered their future colonizers as small parties on the edge of death.
ā€œIā€™m sure it terrified people,ā€ said Eber, 91, speaking to the National Post by phone from her Toronto home.
And itā€™s why, as many as six generations after the events of the Franklin Expedition, Eber was meeting Inuit still raised on stories of the two giant ships that came to the Arctic and discharged columns of death onto the ice.
Inuit nomads had come across streams of men that ā€œdidnā€™t seem to be right.ā€ Maddened by scurvy, botulism or desperation, they were raving in a language the Inuit couldnā€™t understand. In one case, hunters came across two Franklin Expedition survivors who had been sleeping for days in the hollowed-out corpses of seals.
ā€œThey were unrecognizable they were so dirty,ā€ Lena Kingmiatook, a resident of Taloyoak, told Eber.
Mark Tootiak, a stepson of Nicholas Qayutinuaq, related a story to Eber of a group of Inuit who had an early encounter with a small and ā€œhairyā€ group of Franklin Expedition men evacuating south.
ā€œLater ā€¦ these Inuit heard that people had seen more white people, a lot more white people, dying,ā€ he said. ā€œThey were seen carrying human meat.ā€
Even Eberā€™s translator, the late Tommy Anguttitauruq, recounted a goose hunting trip in which he had stumbled upon a Franklin Expedition skeleton still carrying a clay pipe.
By 1850, coves and beaches around King William Island were littered with the disturbing remnants of their advance: Scraps of clothing and camps still littered with their dead occupants. Decades later, researchers would confirm the Inuit accounts of cannibalism when they found bleached human bones with their flesh hacked clean.
ā€œIā€™ve never in all my life seen any kind of spirit ā€” Iā€™ve heard the sounds they make, but Iā€™ve never seen them with my own eyes,ā€ said the old man who had gone out to investigate the Franklin survivors who had straggled into his camp that day on King William Island.
The figuresā€™ skin was cold but it was not ā€œcold as a fish,ā€ concluded the man. Therefore, he reasoned, they were probably alive.
ā€œThey were beings but not Inuit,ā€ he said, according to the account by shaman Nicholas Qayutinuaq.
The figures were too weak to be dangerous, so Inuit women tried to comfort the strangers by inviting them into their igloo.
But close contact only increased their alienness: The men were timid, untalkative and ā€” despite their obvious starvation ā€” they refused to eat.
The men spit out pieces of cooked seal offered to them. They rejected offers of soup. They grabbed jealous hold of their belongings when the Inuit offered to trade.
When the Inuit men returned to the camp from their hunt, they constructed an igloo for the strangers, built them a fire and even outfitted the shelter with three whole seals.
Then, after the white men had gone to sleep, the Inuit quickly packed up their belongings and fled by moonlight.
Whether the pale-skinned visitors were qallunaat or ā€œIndiansā€ ā€” the group determined that staying too long around these ā€œstrange peopleā€ with iron knives could get them all killed.
ā€œThat night they got all their belongings together and took off towards the southwest,ā€ Qayutinuaq told Dorothy Eber.
But the true horror of the encounter wouldnā€™t be revealed until several months later.
The Inuit had left in such a hurry that they had abandoned several belongings. When a small party went back to the camp to retrieve them, they found an igloo filled with corpses.
The seals were untouched. Instead, the men had eaten each other.

Ah, childhood memories (Patreon)
#Doodles#UT#Handplates#Sans#Gaster#Having such clear external-view memories of what happened when they were young would probably give Sans a lot of ammunition lol#Not that they'd know any different - their poor memories honestly :( - but having such clear memories in places would have to be weird#Most people have childhood amnesia to an extent! Tho it's hard to say when that would've applied to them anyway with their sped-up growth#Not to mention the trauma#And it's possible that doesn't apply to Monsters to begin with lol - but it's all a moot point anyway since these are their only memories!#It's sad to think of how much of themselves are missing forever since Gaster didn't experience them :(#This is what happens when you get behind on your work >:0#I really wonder what their lack of memories/restoration of memories would do for their like/dislike of certain things!#Like how Papyrus says that sitting with Sans in his lap makes a lot of sense as to why it was so familiar and comforting#But also that knowing makes it sad as well :( Knowing recolours their understanding and interpretation!#Knowing Why makes things make sense but does it actually Help? It's a tough question - certainly it hurts in the moment#The little things Gaster has infected for them and for himself ā™„ Like taking notes! Like chess and sweets and spaghetti and lab coats#And dark sweaters and cigarette smoke and hugs and intelligence - how many pieces of all of them have A Feeling attached#How many more have A Memory - and even more than that A Memory Lost and unrecoverable ughhh ā™„#But the little things they can hold on to hehe <3 Like pinging Gaster for what they all know and remember#Why does he even keep coming over if he knows the reception he'll get? Lol#Feels particularly self-loathing and goes to get bullied as penance pfft

Ya know
When I came innocently into the Lu fandom I expected, and recieved, plentiful headcanons on what the boys' dark worlds forms would be. What animals they would turn into is such a great area to explore.
I expected to run into headcanons and fanon on that
NOT what FOOD they are!!

Steve and Robin need to be closer in fic. They are peak platonic. That means Naked no longer has any connection to Sex for them. Just bodies. And since they are one person, of course they're weirdly close about body stuff too.
If Robin freaks out that her boobs look weird, Steve for sure ends up first, bringing Robin porno mags, and when that doesn't make Robin calm down, yes, she's tits out, demanding that he give her an impartial opinion. Steve goes camping with Dustin, somehow ends up with a tick in his pubes, can't see to get rid of it, and yes, of course he calls Robin for help. Of Course she shows up with tweezers and too much information about lyme disease. Robin finds out Steve as a set of moles that look like Orion next to is dick, and uses it as a nickname to remind him that she has his back through anything. Steve has absolutely talked Robin down from the brink because sex ed is garbage in America, and she thought all discharge meant she had an std or something.
Grossly close. That is what I want to see more of. No boundaries, no borders, and so platonic that any potential sexual undertones of what they're doing doesn't even occur to them.

Dick: ummā€¦ what?
Damian: *goes on a fully caffeinated/sleep deprivation fueled rant about how while studying for his mid terms at Med School he has encountered several cases that mention patients dying/being permanently maimed/disabled because of botched or unsanitary practices that they definitely performed in the field while crime-fighting, more than once, in less than sterile environments and with the equivalent of a swiss knife*

I think acting like Jimmyā€™s struggles on Earth were like legal or related to being a criminal are so odd. Not in a bad way but just odd.
Like donā€™t get me wrong, I personally believe heā€™s had a run in with the law but I feel like itā€™d be minor, not even something that would get him a record. It couldā€™ve, but it was dropped, not worth the time to pursue someone that down on their luck, probably not a dime to his name.
Heā€™s a bad guy donā€™t get me wrong but itā€™s seems like his issues were with not being well-adjusted? In the whole sense, heā€™s snarky and unnecessary rude. Heā€™s quick to anger and says things to pit people against each other. He likely doesnā€™t have many friends and we know heā€™s not financially well. I think tacking on bad traits diminishes the fact of what he did. Trying to fit him to that obviously evil arch type is a little bland to what he actually is. Heā€™s normal enough to be a minor blip on the radar and thatā€™s how he gets away with what he does.
Jimmy is ultimately scared of being in trouble. He gets into it but panics. He hates being confronted and he just doesnā€™t do things were he knows or perceives a bad outcome will happen to him.

AU concept
zuko leaves his mission early or is sent away due to the severity of his injuries, azula is there for whatever reason and they end up stuck together in dense forests of outer fire nation islands for some time
i like to think it's in hira'a and ursa or ikem finds them eventually
some dialogue concept under cut
"I don't want to fight anymore," Zuko mumbled a long time after he finally collapsed.
Azula, watching him from above, was not surprised. "You shouldn't have fought to begin with."
He didn't move, didn't adjust his eyes to look at her. Staring straight up, flat on the grass, he lay completely limp. His body was beyond battered ā€” no inch of his skin hadn't a trace of blood, dirt, or bruising. Cuts and scrapes marred his arms and face, some probably-serious wounds from wild animals along his torso.
All because he insisted on fighting instead of her.
"You're younger than me," he'd said. "You're only eleven. I don't want you in danger like this."
The memory angered her. "Why even try to keep me safe? I'm stronger than you."
"I didn't want you to get hurt."
"I wouldn't."
"Mm..."
Zuko closed his eyes and stopped talking.
Azula watched him carefully, not close enough to register any movement.
"Are you dead?" she asked lightly.
"No," he replied. "I'm just sleepy."
"Well, don't die in your sleep."
"I'll try not to."
He finally looked at her, face twitching. That might've been a pathetic attempt at a smile, the way his lips moved there. She couldn't tell.
"Come lay down," he requested.
"No. I'm not tired."
"You still need rest."
Hesitantly, she kneeled beside him.
With her in reach enough for him to do so, he pulled her into his arms, wrapping himself around her like he would when they were trying not to get caught up playing in the middle of the night.
"Don't die," she said again, finally able to hear his terrifyingly unsteady breathing.
"I'm not gonna die," he said, sounding somewhat exasperated. Just a little bit of her brother's personality returned with that tone, peeking out from behind crushing exhaustion and excruciating pain.
Azula looked up at his face. The completely mutilated half that still smelled of charcoal and infection first, then the untouched half that was paler than a porcelain doll and much dirtier than she'd ever seen one.
She frowned.

Maybe it's just me and I just don't understand the arc. Or maybe this arc will get some grand conclusion I'm really starting to doubt. But like I'm sick and tired of Tashigi being used as Zoro's misogyny proxy. Like the "a woman swordsman could never beat a man" belief and trauma made sense for both Kuina and Tashigi and was a very valid fear way back in the East Blue when they were still fighting relatively normal people and had no scope of how big the world is
but at this point where there are literally 20 feet tall dudes and people can blow up a whole city with just Haki the only reason Tashigi is still weak is because she is being written that way. Which is really hard to understand because it seems now more than ever One Piece has been getting more and more strong female characters so I don't know why every time Tashigi is on screen with Zoro we have to rehash this. It's even worse cause all she does in the scene is prove Zoro right by getting in a fight that she can't handle and needing saving. It's such a confusing message and honestly doesn't really apply or come up anywhere but with Tashigi and Zoro (outside of that one time where Zoro yells at enel for blasting Robin because she's a woman which was weird because Robin's been in a lot of fights before but seemed there just so enel could point out just how ruthless it is.)
Hell with the exception of the G5 all being in love with her. She is treated like a regular character and not just "the woman"
It honestly feels like both Tashigi and Smoker got lost in the narrative and Oda just doesn't know where to put their arcs. It feels like she was being written to help Zoro overcome whatever mental block Kuina's death instilled in him about facing female opponents with his sword. But she is just sooooo far behind him it renders the point moot and strengthens his convictions (it's weird that he will literally crush a woman's face rather than use his sword and is the only reason I won't say he doesn't fight women he does he just seems to have a mental block about cutting them down especially if they fight with anything blade like) but also we've only ever seen him face female character he knows can't challenge him it would have been interesting to see what he'd do in a fight against someone like big mom, tsuru or smoothie doubt that will happen though. But here's to hoping for Tashigi to have an actual arc.
