People were making fun of Mariner for having "hating marshes and swamps" as a character trait that spans across universes, but- while I have never had to walk through either of those biomes- I just had to walk through foot high snow to get to the bus stop, sinking to the top of my boots with every step. And if the experiences are even a little bit comparable, she is so right for that

i knoww I KNOW lower decks never set out to be a super serious show, but it still has very complicated plotlines and expands the world of star trek quite a lot, so nobody can tell me im 'expecting too much from a comedy' or 'taking it too seriously'

Tbh I do think it's kind of fucked up that Mariner's whole character arc was about learning to trust and rely on others, and her most consistent trait in season 5 was that she desperately wanted community and connection, and then they ended the series with her mom, who's she's finally built a good relationship with, just up and leaving in a way that she clearly found distressing. But like. Maybe that's just me 🤷‍♀️
