It's amazing how the word "nuance" has been turned into a cheap coin for colonialism.
Nuance: "It makes me uncomfortable to take a moral stand against oppression and colonization so I'm going to pretend it's too fucking complicated to listen to the people who have been systemically expelled, displaced and ethnically cleansed for the last seventy years."
Someone said in a tag that "white ignorance is called objectivity and white knowledge expertise" and that is exactly what's going on here.

"We cannot wait around for any one else to come and do it. Why are we waiting for someone else to come and fix things? Why aren’t we doing it ourselves? I would like to send my heartfelt greetings to the congress. I am convinced Socialism is the only answer and I urge all comrades to take this struggle to a victorious conclusion. Only this will free us from the chains of bigotry and exploitation."

Did Anastasia deserve to die for her family's crimes against Fieval's family?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've always found it interesting that "Anastasia" and "An American Tail" were made by the same guy...
My mom got us "An American Tail" as kids, since we were Jewish, and a Disney-like movie with Jewish characters was a one-of-a-kind thing. ("The Prince of Egypt" was still a few years away. Yes, I'm that old.) More to the point, my dad's side of the family is largely Russian Jews, who immigrated in the early 1920s, for exactly the same reasons as the Mouskewitz. Being a child of this background and very literally obsessed with cats, I had mixed feelings about the movie.
When "Anastasia" came out a few years later, Mom didn't let that history stop us from enjoying the new princess movie, but she didn't shelter us from it either. We regarded it like we did the real history behind any sugar-coated princess movie. She even got us some history books about the real Romanov family, and we were fascinated by the subject.
Still, it's an odd elephant in the room, watching "Anastasia" and knowing that her granddad was the one who sent those Cossack cats after Fievel's village, and her dad himself continued doing it to the Jewish mice who didn't leave.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Go, Pompom, Kibble and Fluff-Baron! Kill those Jew mice, and I'll give you extra catnip treats tonight!"
Don Bluth presents both the Romannov family and their victims with equal sympathy, even opening both movies with the family celebrating a holiday, with the kid heroes getting a plot-specific present, before being viciously attacked.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Wow Grandmama! Fieval and Tanya could use this as a merry-go-round!"
*Cough* "Yes uh, about those Jewish mice Sweetie..."
Bluth's portrayal of the Romanov family is not entirely inaccurate. By all accounts, Nicholas II was a deeply loving father who both doted on his children, but raised them not to be spoiled. Despite being royalty, the princesses shared bedrooms and did charity work at hospitals.
Tumblr media
It's a baffling irony that Nicholas was nevertheless was a tyrant, and not remotely just to his Jewish subjects. When I was about twelve, Mom got me the Dear America book A Coal Miner's Bride, about the Catholic Polish immigrants who also fled the oppression of the Russian Tzar. (Anastasia's family conquered part of Poland in the 1800s, banning the Pols from speaking their own language and drafting their sons into the Tzar's dick-measuring contest wars.) Anyway, that's what my mom's side of the family was fleeing when they immigrated. Yes, my family has double reason to hate the Romanovs.
Tumblr media
So, I personally don't have a lot of sympathy for Nicholas II. But the horrors his poor wife and children endured in their final moments never fails to get the reaction from me.
The rationalization for the murder of the children and queen was that it was the only way to ensure that the monarchy never returned. But I assume most modern-thinking people would say that the ends do not justify the means in this case.
That said, millions of families like Anetka's and Fievel's suffered as bad or worse than the Romanovs, because of the Romanovs, and no one remembers them because they didn't wear tiaras. This no doubt was another factor that killed sympathy for the Romanov children. But they were still children.
Tumblr media
The question today is, if we can feel for a family that was literal royalty, despite their father being an undeniable tyrant against our own families...can we also feel for Palestinian and Israeli families, during a conflict that is vastly more complicated than Imperial Russia?
Or do they need to be cute mice and glittery princesses to get our attention?

did you guys see the new Dybowski allegations thing, a post from his wife detailing the abuse she faced from him? (this translation on reddit looks correct to me) sigh yeah I don't know, there is immediately a lot of people doubting the post's authenticity but at this point like let's be real! sure, before this in my mind there was some plausible deniability concerning the rumors of him harassing his female students - although knowing that particular university and what the students themselves said it seemed a little too likely anyway tbh and now there is NO doubt in my mind ...when i was googling his wife's name i realised that she had also been his student at one point, jesus christ and then that man had the audacity to feign deep hurt that his darling students could 'twist' his almost-paternal feelings towards them like that, blegh, typical i've also listened to a bunch of his interviews recently out of sincere interest in his creative process and he did mention having problems with alcohol which at the time i kind of squinted at, like yeah haha, admitting you have a problem is the first step, but like for a teacher it's a bit too yikes... anyway all this to say is that despite my previous hype and interest idk if i'm even going to play p3 now ://// it's too difficult to divorce the man from the game considering that it seems he is more heavily involved now than during p2 development, and also the whole plot is clearly him projecting his self-aggrandizing teaching experiences? from the way he talked about his new take on Daniil and Simon it truly sounded like whatever is left of his early ideas about the characters and the lore will be tainted by him doubling down on all of his personal flaws in recent years ...maybe the promised demo-version will shed some light on the kind of game it will actually be and i'd be happy to somehow get back to previous hype but mmm #doubt

🇺🇸 🚨
UNITED STATES CONGRESS PASSES SERIES OF ANTI-DEMOCRATIC AND PRO-WAR BILLS DESPITE PUBLIC OPPOSITION
The United States Congress and Senate passed a series of bills, including three controversial anti-democratic and pro-war bills, two of which were tied together, on Saturday, bypassing public opinion and popular opposition to the profligate, pro-war, globalist, Neolib/Neocon agenda currently driving United States domestic and foreign policy.
Included in the bills passed was a bill to force TikTok to divest from its connections with China at risk of being banned immediately, which naturally was tied to a Foreign aid bill.
However, as even Republican Senator Rand Paul mentioned in an opinion piece in Reason Magazine, the Bill is almost certain to lead to more power for American political elites and their administrations to pressure companies like Apple and Google to further ban apps and sites that offer contradictory opinions to that of the invented narratives of the American Political class.
Before long, Americans, many of whom are already poorly informed, and heavily misinformed by their mainstream media, could lose access to critical information that contradicts the narratives of the United States government and corporate elites.
Horrifically, this only the start. The US Congress also extended the newly revised FISA spy laws, which gives the United States government the power to spy on the electronic communications of foreigners, while also conveniently sweeping up the conversations of millions of Americans, as we learned years ago thanks to the sacrifices of whistle blowers and journalists like Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning and Julian Assange.
The new FISA Law goes further than this, however, granting US Intelligence agencies the power to spy on the wireless communications of Americans in completely new ways.
A recent Jacobin article describes these new powers as a, "radical expansion of government surveillance that would be ripe for abuse by a future authoritarian leader", or it could just be used by the authoritarian leadership we have right now, and have had for decades.
In fact, when one commentator described the new powers as "Stasi-like," Edward Snowden himself replied with a long post in which he remarked, "invocation of "Stasi-like" is not only a fair characterization of Himes' amendment, it's probably generous. The Stasi dared not even dream of what the Himes amendment provides."
The amendment in question just "tweaks" the current law's definition of an "electronic communication provider," which is being changed to "any service provider," something extremely likely to be abused by the government to force anyone with a business, a modem and people using their broadband to collect the electronic communications of those people, while also forcing their victims into silence.
The government could essentially force Americans to spy on other people and remain silent about it. Cafe's, restaurants, hotels, business landlords, shared workspaces all could get swept up into the investigations of the Intelligence agencies.
Worse still, because picking out the communications of a single user would be next to impossible, all of their victim's data would end up being surrendered to the authorities.
Sadly, the assault on Americans by their own political elites didn't end there, to top this historic day in Congress, at time when the United States public debt is growing at an astounding rate of $1 trillion every 100 days, US lawmakers also passed a series of pro-war aid packages to American allies (vassals) totalling some $95 billion.
Included in the foreign aid bill are aid packages totalling $61 billion for the Ukraine scam, $26 billion for Israel's special genocide operation in the Gaza Strip, and $8 billion to the Indo-Pacific to provoke WWIII with China, at the same time we're also provoking a nuclear holocaust with the Russian Federation.
Also buried in these aid packages is the authorization for the United States government to outright steal the oversees investments of the Russian Federation, and thereby the Russian taxpayers.
Astonishingly, and in direct opposition to the wishes of their own voters, Republican support was won without the possibility of conditioning the aid to any kind of border security, this despite the issue being among the top biggest concerns of Republican voters.
Although much of the money is to be used replenishing the heavily depleted stocks of America's weapons and munitions, it remains unclear where the munitions are expected to come from, as US defense production has remained sluggish and slow to expand despite heavy investments and demand in recent years, despite the rapid urgency with which the policy elite describe the situation.
It bodes poorly for working Americans that only a relatively small handful of lawmakers opposed the bills, producing unlikely bedfellows like Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Mike Lee in the Senate, opposing the FISA bill.
While in the House, the loudest opposition to the foreign aid bill mostly came from populist Republicans such as Marjorie Taylor Greene, Thomas Massie and Paul Goser. Only 58 Congresmembers voted against the Foreign Aid Bill in which the TikTok ban was tucked.
Not one word from American politicians about the need to raise the minimum wage, which hasn't been increased since 2009 despite considerable inflation, nor a word about America's endlessly growing homelessness crises, property crime increases, or the 40-year stagnation of American wages, the deterioration of infrastructure, and precious little was said besides complaints about border security over the immigration crises sparked by American Imperialist adventures and US sanctions.
What we've learned today is that we are highly unlikely to see any changes to the insane behavior of the US and its allies any time soon, neither with regards to the absolutely bonkers Neocon foreign policy leading us to the edge of abyss, nor the spending-for-the-rich/austerity-for-the-poor Neoliberal domestic policy of the last 45 years.

Stop acting like immigration is purely a product of imperialism. People living outside their ethnic homeland isn't a new thing, or a result of the imperial core, and to suggest otherwise is kind of facisty.
People move around, and form communities in various locations, it predates capitalism. We know that there were large Indian communities in Athens in the classical age (this was long before Alexander conquered parts of India). We have records from the Middle Ages of Norsemen living in Byzantium, and Middle Eastern enclaves in China. Immigration predates capitalism, and society has always been multicultural.

Only mass struggle can defeat Trump and all capitalist reaction
By Stephen Millies
Millions of people are angry, depressed, and disgusted at Trump winning the capitalist election. Many are terrified.
They have a right to be. Trump says “no price tag” will stop him from deporting millions of immigrant workers in fascist roundups.
His campaign spent $215 million on TV ads attacking transgender people. Bigots are being encouraged to assault Transgender people, their families, and allies.
Text messages have been sent to Black people across the country, ordering them to report to plantations and pick cotton as enslaved people.
Yet, for all of the bluster of Trump and Fox News, the convicted rapist is hardly getting any more votes than he got four years ago. It’s the Democratic vote that has fallen like a rock.

@ardentpoop god yeah like thinking on the perpetual suspicion/monitoring/surveillance present re: sam over s1-5 (and tbh. never goes away, with each season it just becomes a new issue standing in for what makes him untrustworthy. all different metaphors for the same thing!). sam can never win! you will always be marked as a threat! ('it's not what you're doing/'it's what you are') like, his arc is a tragedy on assimilation!! (it's too real rip)
Tumblr media
(^ from 7.03. but then now im also thinking on. how they had a literal suicide bomber metaphor with the angels in s9 lol.)
Tumblr media
(^ from 5.02. the way this show also pathologises sam and his anger as something inherently monstrous. the view of the racialised Other as inherently ruthless/backwards/savage in their violence, compared to the righteous violence of state brutality) also the show's nuclear family standing in for an authoritarian state (that justifies its nature by perpetual war -> the dogma at the time: there will always be terrorists, America will forever be at war). sam as the scapegoat, a metaphorical muslim american stand-in, whose freedom gets sacrificed at the altar for the greater good.
the BMOL arc is sooo annoying bc it taps into the show's central hypocrisy! critiquing institutions but refusing to examine hunting as essentially authoritarian. like the classic american vein of fascist justice masked as community mob violence, while deriding government control lol. and the cole arc is also incredibly annoying! but that episode also makes those War on Terror = monstrosity associations explicit!! the layers!! oh no the soldier picked up a monster :( while fighting an imperialist war in an arab nation :( and his PTSD/domestic violence gets sublimated into a literal pathogen (tying in with the show's revised stupid MoC lore being really about military/cop apologia. the just soldier descends into monstrosity, for the sake of protecting a brother from the influence of monstrosity)

Whenever the white left screams about "purity politics getting in the way of leftist progress/ class consciousness" it usually means that either Black or brown or disabled people objected to being thrown under the bus and told to suck it up. When pressed they will then invoke "two things can be true at once", like we don't know they're using the truth they like to actively erase and suppress the one inconvenient to them.
Your class system is built on colonization and eugenics. Prioritize race and disability in your leftism or die in a ditch for all we care. You are and have always been unnecessary and obstructive to our liberation.
