let me offer up some wisdom to yall as someone who grew up surrounded by bigots in my family, college, work, etc. there were maybe 2 or 3 others who already believed in basic shit like marriage equality and medical privacy when i met them. as for the rest, i helped many of them gradually change their views.
here's what ive learned: their views on anything can be shaped through emotional manipulation. the clever cunts at the top know this. but as for us, we are too dependent on intellectual arguments. they are not working efficiently enough to challenge bigoted beliefs, because most of the time you are not talking to emotionally-regulated people. its fear-mongering that shapes their worldview. a fear response is a natural thing; it exists to keep you alive. most people cant process any information without checking to see if it scares them. they're supposed to learn how to regulate this to avoid reaching extreme conclusions. think first, react later. but we're absolutely shit at raising people with healthy mental development. some do find a way. but your problem is you need to learn how to address those who don't, or at least haven't yet.
if any information presented to them was crafted with a misleading and fearful narrative i.e. a sensational story that uses reactive language, irrelevant details, causal fallacies, etc, while excluding any fact or context that would have functioned as a barrier to these triggers....they are going to accept that narrative as truth if it scares them. trying to change their minds through facts and logic rarely makes a difference. infact, they're not going to trust the information you've offered up because they think THAT'S actually trying to manipulate them.
i fear we don't have time to teach millions of people how to think first, then react. healing has to come with intention anyway. but do you want people to switch to progressive politics or not? then you need to reach them at a place where they can still listen: their emotion. If you dont start talking to them through an angle that addresses their fears, we will be fucked. the ultra wealthy run the media, and they aren't playing fair. you cant keep praying people will open a history book, go to therapy (expensive and inaccessible for too many anyway) or develop their critical thinking skills. it may feel unethical (i personally dont think it is if you're not the one lying) but you need to utilize this because its not going away soon, and the right and centrists are going to keep using it to get what they want.

"It was the IWW [Industrial Workers of the World or Wobblies] and the Finns that initially took the lead in supporting the Russian Revolution, which had profoundly influenced political developments in Finland.
...
According to A.T. Hill, local Wobblies “hailed the Russian Bolshevic [sic] revolution as something that had followed the IWW economic blueprint.” Mass meetings to protest the continued involvement of Canadian armed forces in Russia were organized. A “Friends of Russia” committee, composed of workers representing a number of organizations and trade unions in Port Arthur and Fort William, was also established. And, as Hill remembered, within the columns of the newly created Vapaus newspaper, members of the Finnish community could engage with recent events in Russia and forge closer bonds with fellow Finns working in other lumber camps. Many Wobblies viewed the Russian Revolution in much the same way as other socialist organizations in North America. Its success was seen as an indication that the end of capitalism was at hand and that workers in North America should take heart from the events in Russia. Despite becoming largely inactive in the region during the second half of the First World War, the IWW remained vigorous across the border in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Most notably, the Superior District Lumber Workers Industrial Union No. 500 continued to agitate and to lead strikes. It was among the lumber workers in Wisconsin and Minnesota and in classes taken at the Work People’s College in Duluth, Minnesota, that Hill spent much of the war.
Drawn to the growing unrest at the Lakehead, Hill moved to Port Arthur in 1917 and dedicated himself to the activities of local Finnish socialists. On behalf of the IWW LWIU [Lumber Workers International Union], Hill and those he recruited toured much of Northwestern Ontario in an attempt to organize workers and drum up subscriptions for Vapaus. Much of the IWW’s attention was focused on the Russell and Newaygo Timber Company and its operations within the district of Thunder Bay. Despite high hopes, in the end Hill was fired (both for his agitation and for conflicts with Lutheran Finnish workers). There now existed within the camps [thanks to the Russian Revolution] a rift between non-socialists and socialists, and debates over the various interpretations of Marxism.
The IWW appealed greatly to immigrant workers in Northwestern Ontario. As Holmer Borg, a Swedish lumber worker and IWW organizer, recalled in 1972:
The IWW organized through its members. Every member was expected to organize, not necessarily by having well organized meetings, [but] simply by talking among workers.
The IWW also tended to focus on the immediate issues that faced workers where they organized. In addition, many recent immigrants were drawn to unions whose organizers actually spoke their language. Most of the other established trade unions tended to send English-speaking organizers who had little or no actual experience in the regions they were visiting or with the workers they were trying to organize.
...
One report by the Dominion Police referred to the Finns in Port Arthur as “anarchists pure and simple.”"

Today is Larry Itliong Day! Itliong was a Filipino-American labor organizer who is remembered as one of the “fathers of the West Coast labor movement.”
Itliong is best known for co-founding the United Farm Workers Union with fellow activist Cesar Chavez in 1967. He was also key in launching the 1965–1966 grape strike and boycott in California, which led to increased workers’ pay and protections.
We honor Larry Itliong and all who have tirelessly fought for the rights of farm workers, immigrants, and Asian Americans.

The migrant shipwreck near Greece is a horrible tragedy – but it wasn’t an accident
“The Greek coast guard’s conflicting account states that the vessel was first spotted by Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, at midday on Tuesday, June 13. It claims that once it achieved contact, those on board repeatedly stated that ‘the boat was not in danger, they wanted no help other than food and water, and that they wished to continue on to Italy.’ The coast guard states that at 1:40 a.m., the boat ceased moving, and at 2:04 a.m., a coast guard floating vessel reported that the trawler had capsized.
“International legal experts have noted that even if those on board the trawler said they did not want to be rescued, the coast guard had the obligation to independently evaluate if it was seaworthy and intervene if it was not. Photos of the trawler show that it was clearly overpacked, those on board did not appear to be wearing life vests, and the vessel was not flying any flag …
“These tragedies are no accident, but a product of political choices. Over the past decade, the EU has reduced access to asylum and made arriving on the continent ever more difficult — increasing policing and surveillance along its borders, erecting and expanding walls, and illegally pushing back thousands of people …
“There are years of evidence that Greece and Frontex regularly engage in and cooperate on illegal pushbacks — pushing migrants back over the border despite their right to seek asylum. In recent years, these pushbacks have been stepped up, both on the country’s northern land border and at sea. Those caught on the northern border are usually beaten, robbed of their phones and all their valuables, often stripped naked, and put in boats on the river Évros. People who arrive on Greek islands are usually gathered up, put on rubber boats, and abandoned at sea. Boats intercepted in the Aegean Sea are often damaged or have their engines removed, or else the Hellenic Coast Guard will simply tow them back to Turkish waters.”

While it’s important to not let the ( suspected; not yet convicted) shooters politics overshadow what he did it’s weird how many people believe that the revolution will begin with people of color and other minorities “getting over themselves” and keeping their mouths shut about his views altogether
#united healthcare#healthcare#like it or not these “culture wars“ do have an effect on black and queer people and immigrants#by at least lionizing people to attack us#either in legislation or on the streets#also I don’t think any class revolution could take place without a conversation on things like race#because poor people sell out there right for a chance to be racist all the time#democrats lost the Union vote to the southern strategy#decades of progress for workers was halted because white workers did not focus on class#they focused on race#like bring in the LBJ quote#you can convince the lowest white there better than the best black man and they will vote against their own interests#every time#side note#but why are people acting like that’s definitely the killer#I’m as much against conspiracy as anyone#but that is a suspect#he is not convinced#please remember that people are innocent until proven guilty

Germany, UK join forces to tackle human trafficking across Channel
Britain and Germany pledged on Tuesday to share intelligence and expertise in the fight against gangs ferrying migrants across the English Channel in small boats, in the latest attempt by European countries to stop the dangerous journeys, ABC News reports.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and her German counterpart, Home Secretary Nancy Faeser, signed a joint action plan” at a meeting in London. The UK said that under the agreement, Germany would make it a specific offence for Germany to facilitate the smuggling of migrants into the UK. Many of the rubber boats used to ferry migrants across the Channel are stored in Germany.
“The criminal gangs who organise dangerous small boats across the channel that undermine our border security, that put lives at risk, are also the same gangs that are operating in Germany, that are operating right across Europe and beyond,” Cooper said. “Law enforcement needs to operate across borders as well.”
Feser said co-operation would include “maintaining a high level of investigative pressure, sharing information as much as possible between our security agencies and continuously investigating financial flows to identify criminals operating behind the scenes.”
Both countries also said they would work to remove migrant smuggling material from social media platforms, where many smuggling gangs advertise their services.
The ministers signed the agreement ahead of a meeting in London of the “Calais Group” which includes Britain, Germany, Belgium, France and the Netherlands, as well as the European Union’s police and border services, Europol and Frontex.
The United Kingdom’s centre-left government is trying to rebuild law enforcement and intelligence links with the UK’s neighbours after the country leaves the EU in 2020. Brexit has complicated international co-operation by taking the UK out of Europol and the intelligence sharing mechanism.
Despite French and UK efforts to tackle migration, the trans-Channel route remains a major smuggling corridor for people fleeing conflict or poverty. Many migrants choose the UK because of language, family ties or perceived easier access to asylum and work.
This year, more than 31,000 migrants have crossed one of the world’s busiest sea routes, more than in the whole of 2023, although less than in 2022. UK officials say more than 70 people have died this year in attempts to cross the canal, making 2024 the deadliest year since the number of crossings began rising in 2018.
