It's been nearly five months now, my entire family is giving up the stirke and falling into propoganda, and every time i think "surely this is the end, no way the us will keep supporting this, israel is on limited time" i keep seeing no end in my twitter feed to the countless losses, i keep seeing gore and childrens butchered on my tiktok. i dont wanna lose hope or faith but ive started feeling so depressed these days that i dont even wanna open my social media because i know what ill see. it might sound selfish but i hope i can open up my tiktok and see silly little people doing trends again instead of seeing one between 6 posts asking to use filters so that they can donate and detailing the necessities that israel banned from palestine and it just feels so soul crushing and hopeless. it makes me feel worse because if im tired of it then how do palestanians cope being in it? if you have any tips or good news id be grateful

hi anon. A lot of what Palestinians report first-hand is graphic, and horrifying, and would contribute to that soul-crushing feeling. But they are so tenacious, they have so much love for their people, their country. Often, Bisan or Motaz or Plestia when she was still in Gaza will share little slices of joy from displaced Palestinians. It reinvigorates me, and I'll often return to watch them when things seem dire.

A Palestinian mother makes donuts for her children, and offers Bisan one as she prepares for an interview. She (the mother) talks about how she makes treats like this to try to cheer up her children, how she keeps herself busy like this so she can't feel the grief of the situation. It is expensive to buy firewood these days, and flour. At her side, her children chip away at a block of wood to help her.

However, life is extremely expensive and funds tend to go towards survival rather than evacuation:

Despite this, her campaign has garnered little support compared to several others smeared, which were completed.

Regardless, she remains diligent and continues to advocate for those she cares for.

ill give you some actual tips on what i consider critical thinking wrt fundraisers if you cant do it on your own, although i have already mentioned this in previous posts so i thought it would be apparent

look up people on other social media sites. ive found quite a few peoples instagrams and other accounts that are much older than their tumblr and show that theyre a real person. you could also message them on instagram and ask if thats their tumblr, but a lot of times people will have the same gofundme link in bio anyways if its them. remember that unless u search in arabic youre looking at english language results

reverse image search the pictures on their blog

check the notes of their gofundme posts to see if theres anyone whos in contact with that person and knows for sure its real

theres a few people ive seen on here with the same last name and some recycled images and i was unsure if it was real but i messaged one person who was verified and had an longstanding instagram account and clearly was a real person and asked if the other accounts were her relatives and if those were their real accounts and she said yes. so its possible to make inferences off campaigns that are legit.

i am not saying at all this is a vetting process but just a way to research to be more sure of something. theres lots of shit you could do. i honestly feel like these steps are fairly fucking obvious

For those who want to leave The Foundation:

Realizing you are in an unhealthy group dynamic is mortifying, increasingly so the longer you have invested into it. The first thing I want you to understand is that you should not punish yourself. You are not stupid for wanting friends, role models, a community that makes you feel accepted. Here are tips to make your departure from The Foundation less daunting.

Delete your logs. PZ have proven to publicize sensitive information to intimidate victims. Whatever you say in The Foundation is not protected. I have provided a link on how to mass-delete your posts so your information is less likely to be leaked.

NOTE: UNDISCORD HAS TROUBLE DELETING POSTS FROM THREADS. PLEASE AVOID POSTING IN THREADS.

Minimize sharing personal info. If you are considering departure or you simply feel uncomfortable, avoid posting in vent channels. Your distress can be used either in the moment or at a later time against you. Avoid discussing personal information such as details about your day, birthday, where you live, your disabilities, etc. Trauma memories are especially vulnerable, so do what you can to avoid disclosing what can be weaponized.

Establish a safe friend outside the server. I recommend someone wholly unrelated to The Foundation or PZ to ensure your privacy, but if you can vet that a former member is safe enough to talk to, that is alright. This isnt to say every member in The Foundation is untrustworthy, just that it is beneficial to have friends outside that you can fall back on. I emphasize this because victims of The Foundation express feeling ostracized and cut off from their friendships after departure. Loneliness is not to be taken lightly as it can exacerbate mental illness. IRL friends are especially important to rely on. If you do not have friends outside The Foundation, please seek out servers, clubs, groups related to positive interests. At the very least you will be able to have a healthy outlet.

Try not to rock the boat. I understand you may want to try to express your dissatisfaction in the server. Unless you are sure you are protected thanks to the steps above, do not sacrifice your emotional wellbeing to try to argue or debate. You may be subjected to group shaming, direct shaming by PZ, or simply banned before you can make sure your information in the server is wiped.

Prioritize you. PZ may create calls to action or instill the idea that you are not a good member/person if you do not intensely participate in The Fight. You don't have protect their honor. And if you decide to defect, you do not have to defend or protect PZ victims. Your emotional wellbeing takes precedence. You deserve to walk away and focus only on you.

Do not blame yourself. Whether it's for not leaving sooner, not speaking out, or even participating in things you now realize are hurtful--do not punish yourself. I promise, this can be a footnote in your life. You are not a bad person for just wanting to be cared about. Stay gentle. Stay soft. Keep trucking on.

Remember that The Foundation is not typical of servers, clubs, or groups. Yes, drama can happen everywhere, but The Foundation is uniquely insular and volatile compared to casual servers. You will find a better, calmer, more fun server with ease.

If you were victimized, I'm sorry. Do not feel pressured to reveal that information to us, especially if you are still in unsafe situations. If you reach out to me, there is a chance I will not publish asks if I feel like the info provided may reveal who you are to The Foundation.

Was Ashnard an illegitimate son of the king?

(This post contain spoilers for FE9/10)

Ashnard; the "only" surviving member of Daein's royal family, as we progress through the game's story, we come to find out how his family was wiped out (almost) entirely, his involvement in this tragedy and his reasons for having committed such acts.

There is some information scattered across both games regarding Ashnard's position in the royal court prior to the downfall of his family that I feel are of importance understand his character better.

Our main sources of information will be the following:

- The base conversation with Tanith in chapter 18 (PoR)

- Ashnard and Bryce's conversation in the final chapter of PoR

-The final chapter of part 3 (RD)

The base conversation with Tanith explains what happened to the royal family 18 years prior to the mad king's war:

Here, we learn that the king, his queen and ~20 princes and princesses died because of a "plague" (which was actually the curse of a blood pact)

Ike: "Nobles, you say? So the royal family fell victim to this plague as well?"

Tanith: "Yes. The reigning king and queen and some twenty or so princes and princesses fell ill. And everyone who fell ill perished."

English localization:

There's other important information in the base conversation with Tanith, but I feel like it's important to mention that the way this information was treated in English localization and original Japanese script differs slightly.

Japanese script:

Tanith: "You see, his name was never mentioned in any talk of succession before that time. He was of such a distant bloodline that he was unlikely to be king."

王位継承には名の挙がることがなかったほど、

タニス: "そうだ。 だがそれまでは…

王位には遠い存在だったようだ。"

tl: Tanith: "Indeed. But until then...his name had not ever come up in talk of succession; that was how far he was from the throne, it seems."

Ashnard is consistently referred as the king's son across both games, which means that he can not be of "a distant bloodline". (probably an error on the translators part)

Ashnard: "Oh, but it doesn't end there. There was my stepmother, too. And every brother who stood to be a legitimate heir...All of them died by my hand."

In the final chapter of PoR, when Ashnard reveals the truth behind the downfall his family, he admits to killing his father, brothers and his stepmother.

Ashnard: "The thing that killed my father was not plague, nor was it another illness.  It was me.

Before I get to my point, let me list what do we know for facts:

- Ashnard is the king's son

- The queen of Daein died because of the blood pact (and thus, was killed by Ashnard)

- Ashnard killed his stepmother

- He killed around 20 princes and princesses (Note: the title of prince/princess is not exclusive to the king's children; it can also be used for his siblings/grandchildren)

- He killed "every brother who stood to be a legitimate heir"

- His name never came up in talks of succession

So, how does the king's son can end up so low in the succession line?

While not explicitly stated, it seems pretty obvious (to me) that the queen and Ashnard's stepmother are one and the same.

If Ashnard was born from an extramarital affair, it would explain why he was never seen as a potential heir to the throne, the queen's children and potential grandchildren would be prioritized over him.

And with over 20 princes and princesses in the family, it's not far-fetched to imagine that some of them were born out of wedlock.

With all of that in mind, let's take a look at these quotes:

Ashnard: "I question the way in which our society is designed. No matter what strength a person has, it is the station he is born into that controls his destiny. And you cannot control where you will be born. Do you believe that a person of low birth should simply endure the curse of his station?"

Almedha: "Ashnard, he… always worried about the future of a world without equals. He was born an outstanding man, wise beyond his age, yet could never become king."

We can grasp why he became so enamored with the idea that "the strong should possess everything", because as an illegitimate son of the king, his chances of becoming king through legitimate/nonviolent means were probably close to zero. Physical strength was his only way obtain some sort of legitimacy. (for example, his name was well known in the army prior to his ascension to the throne)

TL;DR Although his father is indeed the king of Daein, many elements imply that Ashnard's mother is not the queen, making him an illegitimate son of the king.

what can Atsushi's outfit tell us about his role, not only in the ADA, but the entire story?

(I'm slowly starting to cross-post everything from my tiktok analyses to tumblr and twitter. I'll link all of the original videos at the end of each post!)

let's first talk about what I think of as the Central Theme™️, something echoed throughout all aspects of BSD: the balance of light and dark. I have an entire tumblr post talking about it which you can read here, but for those of us who need a tldr: every character, organisation and even action is sorted into the category of "dark" (evil; yin; black) or "light" (good; yang; white). the PM is considered the "ruler of darkness," and the ADA the "guardian of the twilight."

when we first meet Atsushi, he is dressed in clothes that are ill-fitting and look very uncomfortable. we very quickly learn that his biggest internal conflict surrounds his lack of self-confidence- he thinks of himself as a nobody who belongs nowhere... and this is echoed in his outfit. in a city divided into black and white, he wears grey. his clothing does not only give us an insight into how we are supposed to see him, but also into how he sees himself!

this is where I want to bring up a point Asagiri sensei mentioned in an interview once- he chose Atsushi to be his main character because he felt that he could easily change the course of Atsushi's life. the RL Atsushi Nakaijima was not as well-known as the others, leading Asagiri sensei to feel as though he was more malleable than the others.

anyway, back to the costume design.

some people know this, but others have never heard: the outfit gifted to Atsushi in episode 2 (chapter 2) is comprised of items donated by each member of the Agency.

this outfit indicates a hugely important shift for Atsushi; the difference between being a nobody and becoming a somebody.

he became someone, because the Agency believed in him, far before he believed in himself.

the best part about all of this, to me, is that Atsushi still has a very long way to go! his character development so far has been so incredible, though, and comparing the Atsushi we know now to episode 1 Atsushi genuinely makes me tear up 🥺🥺

I’m so relieved to see the new GO fandom members are finally, accurately tracing the history of the South Downs Thing - your role in eliciting the info from the authors while Terry was still alive, your epic CoT fic that was the first Downs story in the fandom, all of it. I hope that post gets the thousands of notes it deserves. This fandom history is vital to the online/IRL presence of GO in equal measure. After we almost lost you to dire health in 2019-20, I’m proud and glad we still have you.

Hey, anon, thank you, and so much love to you. Don’t forget it. I was in my early 20s when I first entered this fandom in late 2004/early 2005. I have grown up, and grown as a writer, with the encouragement of my peers and elders here. I never thought I’d see a full scale podfic or audio drama of CoT in my lifetime, but it became a reality while I was ill. For all of these reasons and more, I couldn’t be prouder that GO has been my fandom home. 2023 marked the year in which I can say I’ve participated in GO Holiday Exchange every year since it was begun in December 2005. Twilight Princess: the Resistance

In the game Twilight Princess, there is a group that meets in Telma’s bar, one that clearly knows each other very well and has for a long time. The bar they meet in has a connection to the castle, the group has clear and obvious disdain for the Hylian soldiers, and most notably of all, is willing and able to break into castle grounds with fairly elaborate weapons in order to aid Link in the end-game.

This is standard video game fare, but I want to go into a few other details about the storytelling that have always leaned me towards the group having a much more active past in which the resistance they had to the Twilight threat is a footnote on a much greater accomplishment: that of regicide.

[Note: I am discounting all comics canon in this analysis, as I do not have easy access to it, nor familiarity. This is based off in-game dialogue and visuals only, with some reference to Ocarina of Time.]

Also this is stupidly long and I'm about to post something even longer, so I guess uh, get yourself a drink. (1400 words)

The first necessary detail for that is this: Princess Zelda is the only member of her family we ever see. When Zant invades the throne room, Zelda is standing at the thrones alone, surrounded by guards, dressed in her formal regalia and wielding a sword. Nobody ever speaks of her parents, or questions her right to speak for the people of Hyrule. By every signal present, she is sole ruler and has been for long enough nobody questions it.

She is also very young: this isn’t usual either unless there has been recent, violent conflict or plague, and there’s no real evidence of there being a large war with an outside party or expensive civil unrest. Therefore, if something did kill her parents, it was likely targeted against them alone, or she had extraordinarily bad luck.

The second massive detail is the behaviour of the Resistance group in general. Notably, most group members are much older than Link or Zelda. Rusl has young kids, but he looks much older – more like 40-50 than 20-30. Telma and Auru are in that age range too. While Shad looks young, he talks old, so he could simply be a well-preserved 40 rather than merely a scholarly 20. Ashei definitely appears to be closer to Link’s age, but she speaks openly of her father as though he was involved before her, so perhaps she is here in his stead.

Notably, while there has clearly been time passing while the Twilight overlay the population and people were capable of moving around and doing things, there’s no real sense of it being a long time. Queen Rutela sent her son away, and he became suddenly and violently ill but none of the Zora are worried in a way that implies an absence of more than a few days. Impaz was secluded in the town but not long enough she reacted afraid for her life from lack of food or water. Others, again, are worried for lost family but not convinced of their deaths – a sentiment that, especially about children, would escalate quite quickly even in pre-modern times.

If that’s the case, how long has the Resistance had to set things in motion? If it was a new thing, in the face of the Twilight, the people involved would not be reacting so smoothly. But if it’s simply reconnecting with old allies, then that re-connection would be rapid. Rusl left Ordon village to look for the children: he appears to have gone straight to the Resistance rather than deviate from his path to follow likely leads. Why would he prioritize that? Only if he knew that was his best chance to chase multiple leads at once.

Only if he knew and expected them to be there, reachable quickly from Telma’s bar.

The Resistance does appear to have extremely rapid communication, especially for this time period. The group is already not only reintegrated but aware of current events and actively investigating them per expertise. They act as though they’ve never actually disbanded, in fact. Telma instantly tries to recruit Link upon his arrival, almost as if she was expecting him...

Almost as if Rusl might’ve told her to expect the boy’s arrival in Castletown in the recent future, possibly before this all began...? He was planning to send Link to the Castle in his stead after all.

I have another post about taxation that will likely be posted after this, but its stated that Rusl “made” the sword that’s going to be presented to the Royal Family from Ordon, the Village. This is not what a village would normally send in taxes, but it might be something they might send specially if the castle wants an extra gesture of good will from the village, possibly from a specific villager.

Possibly from someone they suspected was involved in recent activity they wanted to keep an eye on. A man who can make swords and armour (he’s the only one with a solid, defensive helmet we see, after all) is quite valuable in arming a small group of vigilantes, after all.

There is mention of “prolonged wars” that destroyed the guardians of the royal family to which Impaz belonged. That does not sound like a history of a royal family that has historically been kind or well-liked. We never get any specific sense of what caused these conflicts, but some things can just become entrenched power struggles over time. The Resistance are all incredibly disparaging towards the guards, who are useless within the city but around the castle are quite persistent and very solid. (Especially if you include that they are even proof against speedrun strats...)

In addition, Zelda’s royal garb skews incredibly militant. She is obviously trained in sword-fighting, or she’d have never grabbed a weapon when the throne room was invaded; the walls may be open but that offers as much opportunity for her to flee as it does defence, especially at the height at which this room is placed in the castle. While we do see two large cannons in use, and one hand-held cannon among the resistance after the fact, she is still so very high that’s not a real threat.

(Would this absolutely require magic to make the castle stable? Yes. Is that plausible in this context? Also yes.)

Lorewise, the previous game (Ocarina of Time) also has intense implications of prolonged conflicts: a civil war ten years before the story begins, evidence of torture by the Sheikah at the King's command, another war that ended in Ganondorf’s imprisonment by sages. Sages, who were clearly deeply distressed by everything going on, which implies the war had gone horribly for Hyrule and they were acting out of desperation. The Ocarina of Time script is an isolated language that never repeats which has its own implications of invasion and attempts to wipe out the history before it... (Changing a script on people has the “benefit” of forcibly making the literate population suddenly illiterate towards documentation you don’t want them to have access to, after all.)

If the people had become used to distrusting their rulers, and their rulers became used to suppressing dissent with violence, the cycle can continue for quite some time with periods of ebb and flow. And if the people have become used to the idea that you have to simply kill the King before things will change... Well, you’d have reason to keep a very close eye on them in the future, now wouldn’t you? You'd have reason to keep a group prepared to address matters quickly and finally when required.

In brief, there are a great many things that push me towards reading the Resistance as something that formed not in response to Zant, but in response to the government under which they lived.

Twilight Princess is a very settled era in the Zelda timeline. There are wide fields that clearly see a great deal of travel, elaborate and well-maintained bridges, multiple small villages in close proximity to each other that have walls but not elaborately defended ones. This world is not currently in serious distress. The Twilight War appears to be the worst thing to happen to the villages in some time.

It is not, however, particularly disruptive to the city. The people there are defensive, and strange, and alive in wonderful and interesting ways. We have a cursed rich man, a questionably ethical preacher, guards of both the poorly behaved and well-behaved variety, in which the well-behaved are strongly concentrated on the castle... As if the royal family expects to need strictly monitored guards at the castle.

As if there was perhaps something recent that caused it.

As if this isn't the first time the Resistance has broken into castle grounds in the recent past.

Perhaps Rusl had reasons to want someone who wasn’t him to present the sword to the young Queen, after all.
