I think my lizard is going to die :(
Hey guys, my pet lizard is pretty sick, and I cannot afford to take her to a vet because my dog has also recently been sick and all of my money has gone to his vet bills. My dog is fine for right now, but the lizard is not.
She is open mouth breathing (really bad sign), has been refusing food, and thus has lost weight. I suspect she has a respiratory infection. If I were to be able to take her to a vet, I believe they would prescribe her Baytril (antibiotic to fight the infection) and Critical Care to increase her weight, and maybe also something special to soak her in rather than just warm water, just to help keep her hydrated as she is also looking dehydrated. With all of this, I imagine I would be looking at a bill of around $150-$200, or maybe even a little bit more, which i simply do not have right now, especially since I cannot work for the next 4 weeks.
I really don't want to lose her. So I am asking for money to take her to a vet. If I can raise at least $150-$175, I can find a way to cover the rest if it ends up being a bit more than that.
I started a fundraiser on paypal, so if y'all could please consider helping her, or sharing/boosting this post, I would really appreciate it. https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8Rv9LhIQz9
In the meantime, my plan for her care is twice daily soaks in warm water to keep her hydrated, keeping her in a smaller quarantine tank so I can easily monitor her health as right now she is in a larger one with a mate. She might be eating, but i can't really tell since the other one may be the one getting the food, but I've just moved her to the smaller tank, so I will try to give her some food. If she doesn't eat over the weekend, I have some liquid meal that I can syringe feed to her, but she hates being handled like that. But keeping her fed and hydrated is really all I can do to help make her more comfortable while she tries to fight the infection. There is nothing I can do for her respiratory infection without medical treatment. If any reptile owners out there have any advice for me, i'd appreciate it.
This is her:

okay i typed this in a reply but i need to say this more detailed here too, the way totk dealt with horses (and stables) is bad and worse than botw imo
(yes i can rant about that too, these weird choices are in every little spot in totk, its almost impressive)
in a game that lets you build cars and stupid flying maschines, towers that shoot you into the stratosphere AND teleporting points all over the place, the chance is already low that you use a horse- though i would be one of them bc i love horses and hate building and didnt find it fun at all-
(also i almost never used any parts i had with me bc you cant put them back and your dumb vehicles despawn as soon as you dont look at them- also a negative thing about that system that reinforces the feeling of actually using it being more punishing than rewarding with the added bonus of the good ol saving your health potions forever problem)
-and something i DID like was that you can have more horses and the ... one.. new color (the lil spots but only AFTER you do that one quest in the spy post)
the stable points seemed like a neat idea, but like so many things, are utterly cheatable, imo the system should have only given you a point when you visit a new stable, so you actually have to go around and visit them all
(also .. add new stables, like mini ones or sth that dont offer beds- you dont need that anyway- so you have more places in which you can get them ... why did they remove some of them anyway, shouldn there be MORE now that the land is supposedly healing/being repaired? especially the one next to the big canyon, its so empty there it would have the perfect place for sth like a new settlement or a big boss arena but no its more empty than it was before, why?? and then putting yet another repeating annoying quest there in that weirld empty place?? i just dont get it)
letting you farm points by sleeping at a stable or bringing in a horse gives you LESS incentive to actually go around the world bc you can just farm it there
(and if that was done so youd 'discover' the malanya talks to you in your sleep 'secret' ... that is literally told to you, and if its bc you dont want to force players to go around and find every stable to get all those rewards ... why do you have 140 or whatver caves then with the majority of them being the literal same thing over and over ... to make people actually use the sleeping thing there? .. why, who uses that anyway, and farming points by sleeping there .. what the hell does that add? AND THEN the stupid sleep over tickets, probably the most nothign reward ever, dont count?? i dont think i ever used one- it just all doesnt make any sense, everything plays against each other)
the upgrading system for your horse is .. once again, a neat idea horribly executed, you have to go find malanya to upgrade them, and similarly stupidly like the fairies, they only tell you what food you need for what upgrade when you are there .. or when you are sleeping in the special tm bed at a stable, randomly, one food, bc the quantity changes too
which is just so ??????????? let me go and do a quest that rewards you with a lil booklet in which you can look up what an upgrade costs, or let the stables have that, either as a list or in the menu when selecting a horse or something??
(also why the hell is malanya in a different spot anyway, like, it feels like a modder just plopped them over there, their og spot is just empty now - except for yet again a stupid filler quest for .. another big horse and a yaaaaaaaaays crystal shrine quest- ... the spot is even still called spring of the horse god .... its so stupid, just like the fairy shuffling around, like you really couldnt think of a better way to reuse that concept other than to ... move it to a different spot in the same map and map level???? and not change anything in their og spot except idk, put a hole in the map ... for one of them like .. its like they moved them around last minute just to have the semblance of things being 'changed' with no regard what makes a change actually feel like one and what just feels like, pick up thing, click on random spot on map, drop thing- its like that for the fairies and shrines too, its so dumb and .. feels disrepectful to botw and how much thought seemed to have went into these spots that were clearly built about those things)
and like it couldnt get WORSE, they cut off the paths that horses follow automatically with one of those miasma buttholes (sorry its just a hole cut into the map, it doesnt even look like miasma burst through, it just .. cut out) a monster camp (that RESPAWNS, i thought those camps you clear with a quest would stay clear, but that would make sense, so of course it respawns and you can do the frame rate killer quest over and over yippieee) or otherwise like, with a big rock or a broken bridge-
and there is NO WAY to create a new path or fix or move anything in a game ABOUT BUILDING supposedly, like you needed more reasons to never use a horse????? i liked jsut hopping on and letting them follow a path and chill looking at the landscape, you cant do this here, and you cant even excuse it with 'its bc of the theme' as in, stuff is destroyed bc calamity 1.5 or whatever bc nothing in the game makes it feel like theres anything actually at stake, but the real crime is to make it not be fixable. WHY??? link moves entire buildings with ease but cant move one freaking rock that fell into a river?????? you swing around logs like a club but cant fix a bridge so your horse can get over it??????????????????????????????

they cast a 28 year old for Tyson 💀
[relevant rants: here and here]
yeah, i saw - i wasn't holding onto hope of them casting a disabled actor for Tyson (still disappointed, just not surprised) but casting a 28 year old for a middle schooler is really out of left field. It's just an odd choice? Particularly given how much they've been emphasizing age-accurate casting so far.
It makes me really wonder what major rewrites they have planned for Tyson's character. Because as things stand currently there's no way to make Tyson's existing character work with this casting. Tyson is supposed to be in Percy's grade, but Daniel Diemer sticks out like a sore thumb against the child actors. Tyson being in Percy's grade is pretty important for the entire arc of Sea of Monsters with the main character arc being Percy combating internalized ableism and establishing him as a character who stands up for other marginalized kids. If they remove that, what's Percy's arc going to be for that entire season? At what point are they going to establish that about his character? Or are they just going to exposition it at us like usual with nothing backing it up and no actual character progression? And in later seasons the age gap is only going to be more prominent - like how is Tyson going to work in BoTL or TLO? Are they planning on removing his character entirely for those scenes? Are they going to remove him as a recurring character in general? It'd be really weird if they killed him off or something.
I'm also afraid for if they do try to keep Tyson's disability coding in some form - cause there's kind of no good way it can go at this point. Either they completely erase Tyson's coding because they cast an abled actor for him and that messes up the entire arc of the book and his character particularly in relation to Percy, or they have an abled actor attempt to portray a character heavily coded as having down syndrome (and i believe they're already doing similar with iirc Chiron's actor is abled but they're doubling-down in the show on Chiron being disabled) and given how they've written the neurodivergence themes (or absence there of) in the show so far there's just no way that'd end well. Like, Tyson's characterization is a little questionable to begin with in the books, but given the show's writing so far it just feels like we're very rapidly ramping up for an extremely ableist characterization of Tyson. Like i'm sure Daniel Diemer is a great actor, but... i'm just getting real tired of the show erasing the entire premise of the series :T
anyways as per my initial post about pjo tv tyson casting theories i guess it's time for me to start tearing stuff apart with my teeth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

finnick survives the mutt attack and decides to move to district 12
after the rebellion ended, every victor had the opportunity to return to their district, giving them the chance to help rebuild it. but finnick odair decided against it. after many years of suffering from the malicious claws of the capitol, he decided to be selfish. with deep, permanent scars spread all over his body and his mind equally scarred, he chose to take his little family to district 12 and settle down around familiar faces.
they moved right next to katniss and peeta's home, craving the closeness of a family in these confusing times. his initial idea was to build his own home, but with pregnant annie by his side, he chose to postpone it and occupy one of the never-lived-in victor houses.
he wanted to build a house from the ground up right away, putting up every wall, painting every room, and even designing some of the furniture. however, the mental image of him, annie, and their little one doing it all together, replacing the horrifying memories from his past with comforting ones of new beginnings, made his heart flutter and postpone his plans.
months after settling in, the couple had already established a routine. finnick liked to visit the hidden lake very early in the morning, unaware of the stories it held. annie sometimes came with him, though not as often as he would like. she preferred to join him later, enjoying sleeping in and savoring the quiet morning.
one morning, like many others, finnick went to the lake by himself, not before planting a soft kiss on his sleeping wife's temple. lost in his thoughts, he was caught off guard by encountering his neighbors already swimming in the lake. it wasn’t unusual to find them there; he knew perfectly well that the meadow was one of the couple’s favorite places. he always hears stories from them about how they often get startled by squirrels in the little cabin, and he definitely remembers being invited by katniss to several fishing afternoons.
‘hey,’ he waved back at katniss and peeta after they waved eagerly. reading their body language, finnick noticed the nervous look on peeta's face and the teasing smile from katniss. she was teaching him how to swim, and it seemed it wasn't going great. enthusiastic to join the swimming class, finnick submerged in the water and started to swim towards them.
finnick always felt a sense of liberation in the water. moving with such grace, anyone could guess he had spent his entire life swimming. bodies of water had always been his greatest companion, his greatest comfort. the deep, now maroon-colored scratches on his body stung the first time he got into the water again. however, he fought through it, and eventually, the pain subsided. today, the cool weather lowered the temperature of the water, but finnick couldn’t care less. the cold water woke up his senses and prepared him for the day.
when he arrived next to his district 12 friends, he couldn’t help but chuckle at the situation. never in his wildest dreams could he imagine this. being away from the cruelty and abuse of the now deceased president, living in one of the previously poorer districts, in a mundane scenario with two very traumatized fellow victors.
‘are you really forcing poor peeta to wake up early in the morning and have him swim in a block of ice?’ he asked katniss, suppressing another chuckle after closely watching peeta’s shivering body and chattering teeth. katniss couldn’t help but playfully shrug, not before defending herself ‘peeta begged me for days to give him swimming lessons. i’m not to blame for the weather.’
finnick turned to peeta, grabbed him by the shoulders, and asked him, ‘is she even a good teacher?’ totally ignoring the offended gasp from the brunette and her faint push, finnick volunteered himself as his personal teacher when peeta admitted between laughs and shivers that swimming lessons with katniss weren’t the best idea.
that is how they spent many autumn mornings together. at 6 am sharp, finnick was already waiting for peeta in the meadow, towels in hand and a floating belt similar to the one used in the third quarter quell in case of an emergency. the lessons started with the basics, teaching him how to relax and let his body float, giving him many tips for breathing control, recalling what had been taught to him when he was a little kid learning how to swim.
every mid-morning, in the distance, they could observe a figure in the meadow, placing a chair close enough to the water to submerge her feet. ‘annie!,’ finnick yelled excitedly, feeling a warm sensation in his chest just at her presence. whenever he swam close to her, he couldn’t help but splash water in her direction, gasping when she returned the splash and accidentally splashed water into the baker’s eyes.
bulding peeta’s confidence was finnick’s main goal in these lessons. some days, they would spend entire lessons floating around or swimming short distances to help peeta feel comfortable in the water. though it took months, peeta eventually grew confident in his newfound skill. feeling grateful, the baker hugged the other blond tightly, appreciating the kind nature of finnick. as peeta rambled about how he couldn’t wait to show off in front of katniss, finnick felt a glimmer of sincere happiness. he had found his family and was willing to selflessly do everything for their well-being.
