is it too late to ask for said actual nuanced statement about your feelings on the way loona has split up and how you feel about supporting each of the factions as a fan
No :0 Okay well this posted early accidentally come back when I've edited it with the answer you seek; edit here it is
As anybody who follows me and actually listens to what I post knows, yes, I was disappointed with the choice that the 5 members in modhaus made.
The reason is of course Jaden Jeong's involvement in the conditioned that caused the members' suffering. I honestly do not care to "respect" the members' choice when, firstly, they're public figures, which means they're in a position where they open themselves to judgement, having surpassed what it means to be a regular person into an overman; hence, idol (no this isn't lore) (yes it is) and it is parasocial to think we as fans owe them the kind of blind devout respect that is reserved for people you know and are close to. We, of course, need to respect them as people even if they are idols which leads to my next point. Secondly, they're adult women who are capable of making their own choices. It is only patronizing, infantilising and self delusionary to cheer them on for every choice they make void of criticism. If I respect them as a person, that means I care about the decisions they make enough to be able to disagree with them. The only decisions you respect unconditionally are from your God (if you have faith) or someone who has got you fucked up.
of course all of this is only my opinion to be clear ^^;
So to continue, I don't respect their decision to join modhaus. However I do accept their decision and think of them no less as people - that's very important to me for people to be aware of! That may have sounded harsh but I only have strong feelings because I care.
When it comes to modhaus vs ctd, to ME it feels like a faction of people who are willing to ignore a history of mistreatment to blindly follow their idols because that's what idolatry is versus a faction who are distrusting and reluctant to give a second chance to a man (and his company) who have done them wrong. And of course bias vs bias.
Regarding why I don't hold ctd to the same standard as modhaus; one is an established company with another group under their belt and the other is a company that formed because Hyunjin asked really niceys. The "mistakes" that modhaus are making, like having Jaden and doing NFTs and having loss of the members' autonomy to give fans control as a business model (to be frank, I don't care about missing english subtitles or those small things, its whatever) are much more severe to me than CTD fumbling the bag in ways that only affect them financially. Sorry I don't care about them picking venues that are too big for them on a concert, I don't think it's that big a deal.
In this way, I think cloo vs ourii, ctd vs modhaus, is much more than the preference people have for the idols actually in the companies but rather an ideological thing. Can you put the past (that isn't yours to begin with) behind you to stan a group with no guarantee of being completely safe and in control, or are you going to be wary of a company that has done little to demonstrate how it's protecting the girls' best interests. At least that's how it looks to me.
And it's weird how we dont see Chuu & Yves akgaes right? And I think that's because the companies are such unknown elements that it's nowhere near as polarising to support them, like there's no reason not to.
And I do think there is a lot of us vs them going on. (some) People who are artms member stans who have become full-blooded ouriis have made it their mission to find any excuse to bring CTD down - maybe out of a guilty conscience vengeance for the criticism that modhaus has been getting. And the same can definitely be said about cloos who just want more reasons to shit on modhaus even though the problems are inconsequential (see? I'm not wholly biased)
In summary I just think it's sad that it's had to have been this divisive. If the loona members weren't in the position that they were - that no company was willing to accept them bar modhaus, and the members who got out first didn't feel obligated to go to modhaus, since CTD - and other places - weren't an option, things maybe would've turned out differently. Or maybe they wouldn't have, and there will always be fanwars regardless.

so it all comes to this.
to say i was excited to play 3 would be wrong. actually i was sort of dreading the game. i went in with expectations for the worst and was pleasantly surprised. which is not to say that its good. but its certainly a game! that i played! and now you get my thoughts. unfortunately a lot of my thoughts about the end of the game are kind of hard to separate so. if youre wondering where my thoughts on endgame stuff is. its at the end.
(also i havent played remind so theres no remind thoughts here. its all just base game kh3)
combat (with some other gameplay notes)
so. im not a big fan of the combat. to preface, i played the rest of the series on standard, but with kh3 i was told it was easy so i did proud! and yet it was still the easiest kh game.
kh3 is the first game in the series where i feel as though 'mash x to win' is a valid criticism <- thats not entirely true at the start, but later in the game it does feel a lot like that. almost every fight is mindless because of how easy it is. you can see it in the enemy health bars, theyre absurdly large because of how easy it is to take them down. they need to have that high of health so the fight isnt over in under a minute.
i dont think the base combat is bad. unsatisfying, maybe. But not bad. except for attraction commands.
attraction commands feel like part of a pattern in kh3, where they try to recreate what made the other games so good without understanding WHY it was good. what theyre recreating ofc being reaction commands. technically its the same as some reaction commands, sure, being a giant dramatic attack, but it doesnt work because theres no situational awareness in them.
attraction commands dont feel cool because theres nothing in them that requires use of your surroundings or that is tailored to the enemies youre fighting, since theres only a couple that can be used at any time. there's nothing strategic about using them either- reaction commands normally would give you a specific advantage, or could be used to avoid attacks, only sometimes dealing damage on their own. in kh3, all attractions do is deal damage. they are impersonal and often obtrusive- if youre like me and hate attractions, youll still often accidentally use one, since theres no way to disable them.
this is more abstract than anything, but something about attacking feels unsatisfying. the combat feels like it lacks any real sense of impact or weight to me. but thats all personal and not exactly good criticism so. i digress
also the bosses in 3 suck. you know its bad when the most memorable boss fight in your game is the tutorial. most of the boss fights in this game are so unmemorable that ive literally forgotten them. except of course demon tide. i despise demon tide. it was fine in 0.2 but not here. every time you fight it feels like a missed opportunity for something cooler.
i think flowmotion is worse now. i get that it was a bit too overpowered, but with how much it was limited i ended up hardly using it. i didnt like flowmotion because of the attacks, i liked it because of the movement. so to me, it ended up being a reminder of how kh3 failed instead of a fun feature.
also i know a lot of people like being able to switch keyblades in fights, but honestly i feel like it removes an element of strategy the other games had
the ui (and other visual things)
this isnt something i talked about in my other reviews. but in kh3 i must bring it up. if you follow me you may know my hatred for kh3s ui. so im going to talk about it again! this is the abridged version though. heres my whole rant if you want my full thoughts on it. but the short version is that i dont like it. i am someone with terrible vision and i can play every single kh game without glasses because the ui is just big enough that i can read it. most of the time i can read subtitles too. but in 3? i struggle even WITH glasses to read anything. the ui is too small to make out anything almost all the time. its really only by muscle memory that im able to play. my glasses broke while i was playing, and i literally couldnt play until i got new ones because i couldnt make out a single word on screen. its bad design.
im also upset that there ui art has been replaced with renders. its just a shame honestly. i loved the art in the older games. the renders feel bland in comparison.
and thats generally my take on the look of modern kh. sure its pretty, but its bland. kh has always had a certain cartoonish vibe to it thats starting to die out, and i think the shift to unreal engine was the first marker of that change. i like the look of old kh. its not too technically impressive but its incredibly charming. kh3 is anything but. the characters feel far less expressive, the worlds are realistically rendered, it feels unfitting for a series like kh. its hard for me to find kh3 as charming as the other games. the only word i can think of to really describe it is corporate.
i dont know if this is a rare take, but i think technically impressive visuals are far worse than distinct ones. kh used to have a unique look! now it just looks like every other semi-realistically rendered rpg.
story (featuring: more gameplay notes)
my problem with kh3's story was unavoidable really. dream drop distance set this game up for failure and so im not going to complain about dream drop distance. ANOTHER TIME ill talk about dream drop distance. i dont have time to make a post that long. i do have a lot of problems with the story that werent a result of ddd being terrible so i guess ill just bring up those.
one of my biggest issues with the game is how unimportant the roxas plot is. youre led to believe the game will revolve around it but then sora does nothing to further it. at all. at the start he CONSIDERS doing something, and then hes told by ienzo "no its fine ive got it. go do something else" and its barely ever mentioned again until the end.
this relates to my overarching problem with the plot: it feels aimless. in every kh game theres a REASON theyre going on a journey. soras looking for his friends, roxas is working a 9 to 5, the wayfinders are all following each other, etc. but in kh3 sora is looking for "the power of waking". what is the power of waking? i literally have no clue. thats how poorly defined it is. its an abstract goal, its not tangible or even really achievable. its just a macguffin. when the plot suddenly decides to happen at the end the whole journey feels pointless. you could skip every disney world past twilight town and you would probably be fine. it's not a journey, you're not exploring for a purpose, you're just killing time until other people handle the plot.
i also really hate the new organization (i refuse to call them the real organization. theyll never be the org). theyre painfully boring and poorly put together. the old org had structure, they had very specific goals, every member had a purpose. you knew how they worked and why they did what they did. the new org is just completely lacking in that. calling it an 'organization' is stupid because there's nothing organized about it. and even disregarding all that, the new organization also lacks any real personality. the members feel so boring, which sucks, because almost all of them are returning characters who used to be really fun. and why are most of them even there? no one except maybe xigbar seems to actually care about their mission. the old organization had a common goal and a reason everyone was there. they were nobodies, they wanted their hearts back. there's no reason for any of the new members to stick with xehanort. and if you say "well they were norted!" i then must ask. what exactly is norting? like really. it hasnt been possession since birth by sleep. norting is whatever nomura needs it to be in the moment. its not clearly defined, its just another macguffin.
also because i dont know where to put it, the battle of 10,000 heartless is just a terrible successor to the original fight. there's no stakes, no buildup, no friends fighting by your side, no reason to care. they just throw thousands of heartless with no ai at you. literally no ai, if you stand still they wont attack you. its a drag if anything, an homage to a better game done absolutely no justice.
back to what i was saying about the roxas plot, roxas' return is just such a nothing scene. theres nothing about it thats cathartic, his lines are impersonal and bland, theres nothing 'roxas' about it. roxas' defining feature has always been how emotional he is, and there's none of that here. its nothing. and then he does nothing afterwords. he has seven whole lines in this entire game, six of them are in this scene, and the last one is an inconsequential jab at sora at the very end. and then he fades into the background.
the writing in this game in general is actually weirdly worse than normal. it feels a lot less, idk, human? the older games were weird and absurdly cheesy but this is just. strange. look at the scenes with riku and mickey in the realm of darkness and youll see what i mean.
WHILE IM ON THAT SUBJECT. RIKUS KEYBLADE BREAKING IS BULLSHIT. remind me to rant about that another time though im not gonna go on a tangent about that here
also i would give my thoughts on the ending but i literally couldnt care less about xehanort. so i dont really have any! the final boss was alright though
i have more specific thoughts, but generally, the game feels aimless and underwhelming.
positives
i love axel and kairi! theyre a fun duo and ill never shut up about their parallels so seeing them together is nice. i wish they did anything but thats BESIDES the point im being POSITIVE here
also. the music is great. i love the music sm. its nowhere near my favorite kh soundtrack, it feels a lot more grand which isnt my thing but its still some of yoko shimomuras best work. also hearts as one. its the PERFECT conclusion to roxas' theme and arc. the progression of it from melancholic (roxas) to desperate (the other promise) to triumphant (hearts as one) is just so good. i wish the rest of this scene was as good as the music so i could compliment it more wholeheartedly yknow?
its actually funny also! kh isnt the funniest series, most of the time when it IS funny its completely on accident. but kh3 is like days in the way that it just. actually has funny writing. the jokes intended DO land and its just a breath of fresh air.
oh also riku being well adjusted is the funniest possible conclusion to his character arc. 10/10 im so happy hes normal. never give that boy an emo arc again nomura
conclusion
over all, kh3 is exactly like how my teachers described me in elementary school: it has a lot of potential, but doesnt apply itself. this couldve been a decent game but it simply doesnt do most things very well. i give it a 5.2 / 10. its not an actively bad game but its a game i have trouble enjoying. sidenote im retconning my opinion on bbs to say its 4.7 / 10 because a: my opinions have changed and b: i think 3 is better but i dont want to give it a very high score.

Poll Below
So, I saw someone say yesterday that "most people skim watch Chinese dramas", and that honestly blew my mind. If it has subtitles, I have to watch it and focus on it.
But then several thoughts occurred to me. You see, right now, my friend and I are watching The Longest Promise and The Screen Foxes. To us, The Longest Promise is painfully slow. We thought it was a little slower than most Chinese dramas, but most Chinese dramas are a little bit slow, and The Longest Promise actually feels much slower to us because we hate the main character and, like, half the story decisions so much, we thought. (Sorry, no offense to Longest Promise fans.) We thought that if we actually liked the main character and were invested in her story, the way the show dilly-dallied on every one of her scenes - having her say the same things over and over again, showing a dozen different angles on some magical moment in her life, having her express feelings about something that happened in a previous episode that she had made very clear at the time - would be enjoyable. Meanwhile, before we started The Screen Foxes, I read three different reviews that said the plot moved lightning-fast, bounced all over the place, and didn't make any sense. And ... none of that is true (so far). The plot moves at a normal pace. A thing happens, and then, something else happens as a consequence. There ARE several different interconnected story threads, and we do bounce back and forth between them, but it all makes sense. And last night, it hit me that maybe The Longest Promise is so slow because you're supposed to "skim watch" it. Certainly, if you dip in and out, you can follow the plot very easily. Scenes are long enough that it's hard to miss a whole one if you're checking back in frequently, repetitive enough that you can understand the point of the scene even if you miss three-quarters of it, and the same points are repeated in multiple scenes, so there are very few details you can miss even if you don't watch it too closely. (Plus, the plot is predictable enough that it's easy to follow.) Meanwhile, because The Screen Foxes doesn't dawdle on any points, if you're not actually sitting down and watching, it must seem chaotic and nonsensical. Why are they fighting this green monster now? Wasn't the show about painting a minute ago? The green monster is being used by a Taoist to body-guard a rich family. The Taoist is actually the one who made the family rich. Why? That's the mystery we need to find out. In the meantime, this family used its wealth to cheat in the painting contest from the last episode, so fighting their body guard is advancing that painting plotline too. But if you looked away from the screen during the two minutes where they were explaining all that, then yeah, it would be super confusing why this show just went from a painting contest to a demon fight.
If Chinese dramas are MEANT to be watched in the background, and that's the reason so many of them are so long and slow, then, honestly, my whole worldview has been changed.
So, TLDR: I have to know now: DO most people actually "skim watch" Chinese dramas????

So thanks to current events in my life I have had the pleasure of playing the absolute base Elden Ring, 1.0.0, untouched by internet and unupdated and it is an absolute hellscape 😂
Here are some of the awful things that I have noticed while checking it out:
Tumblr media
A majority of Spirit ashes are missing item description, thus, missing the lore for everything. Remembrances dont even have item descriptions so you cannot learn the lore of any of the Demigods, same thing goes for their items
Scarlet Rot is referred to as "Plague" and when you contract it it pops up as "Plague" the damage is shit making scarlet rot no different than poison 😂
Death Blight is only referred to as "Curse"
There are A LOT of texture and lighting glitches and issues lol
The Golden Erdtree rain does not happen in Liurnia or Altus, like the winds will blow and you'll have the golden aura around your body, but there is no golden rain in the sky lol
You can also fall through the ground when an enemy attacks you, and you end up losing all your runes because when you respawn they show up underground and you cannot retrieve them. fun 😭
A lot of music is missing from certain areas and bosses: Mt. Gelmir has no music(limgrave night theme is the default, and seems to be the default music for every area at night), Volcano Manor has the Old Castle soundtrack, The Roundtable Hold plays the Leyndell theme, Siofra River is the freaking Subterranean Shunning Grounds music, Margit and Radahns boss fights only plays Malenia's theme
Speaking of Radahn his boss fight is literally impossible: his arrows are heat-seeking and do unreasonable amounts of damage. and worst of all there are no summon signs anywhere so you cannot summon anyone for the fight 😭 He is literally unbeatable like this lol
MEANING that Nokron and Rannis questline are completely unattainable, thus immediately locking you out of the biggest ending in the game 😂
Radahn Festival is also completely lacking in its signature music, and there are no spirits in the courtyard, meaning:
Tumblr media
Okina in the flesh lol
Tumblr media
The Death Rite Birds are fucking yellow
The Rennala 2nd phase cutscene is lacking in any music, Ranni's dialogue is broken and jumbled, lacking any voice over for some lines and the subtitles are inaccurate
And when you beat Rennala and unlock stat respecing, its does not accept larval tears and instead the Amber Starlight Shard
yeah
THAT amber shard, yknow the only amber shard in the game
MEANING that if you use the shard you are completely locked out of Seluvis's questline and you can also never respec again because there is only one amber shard
what the fuck 😂
The baby land octopus in Miquella's Hideaway in Altus have a 100% drop rate of Sacramental Buds which is just interesting to me 🤔 lol
Jarburg is completely lacking in flowers and the Jars are not chilling, instead permanently alarmed
JARBAIRN DOESNT EVEN EXIST
Tumblr media
Miquella is referred to as "herself" (We stan the most genderfluid Empyrean of all lol)
Tumblr media
Malenia was known as the "Red Queen" apparently 😂 and the Cleanrots were once the "Winged Knights" (also this description makes the Cleanrots even more badass lol)
Tumblr media
Albus the Albinauric isn't even in the game, instead replaced by what I'm assuming is a place holder statue
Meaning that it's impossible to even get the one half of the secret medallion to the haligtree
MEANING THAT THE ENTIRETY OF THE CONSECRATED SNOWFIELD, THE HALIGTREE, AND EVEN MOHGWYN PALACE ARE COMPLETELY UNACCESSIBLE 😭
Also Varre's quest was locked behind online play until a certain patch(can't remember which one) so you cant even access Mohgwyn through his questline lol
The Pulley Bow does not exist 😂 😭 The Pulley Crossbow does exist BUT it completely omits the important description regarding the "certain genius who learned golden order fundamentalism" Ur lore is gone Miquella i am so sorry 😭
THE FIRE GIANT???? JUST DOES NOT SPAWN WHEN YOU ENTER HIS ARENA???? THE BORDERS ARE THERE THOUGH
MEANING THAT YOU CANT EVEN GO TO THE FORGE AND BURN THE ERDTREE, YOU CANT GO TO FARUM AZULA, YOU CANT ACCESS ANYTHING ENDGAME RELATED, THEREFORE MAKING THE GAME LITERALLY UNBEATABLE 😭
Tumblr media
Morgott Soldier helm 😂
Tumblr media
This description just adds to how horrible the Frezied Flame is like jeez :/
The Formless Serpents do not exist and the Serpent Arrows are instead associated with the Shaded Castle and are explicitly referred to as "reviled by their enemies and all else" So the Shaded Castle was evidently hated by everyone it seems
The traveling merchants do not play any music(or at least the ones that are supposed to)
Tumblr media
The Mirage Rise is broken to hell and back lol the initial mirage does not disappear and instead remains as a low resolution, intangible visage. And when you break the seal the low resolution part does not go away so instead it over laps with the physical rise 😂
The Academy Glintstone Key is not available therefore locking you out of Thops questline
YOU CANT EVEN READ THE SWORD MONUMENTS
The Prattling Pates do not exist
Tumblr media
there are no oracle envoys in Leyndell and are instead replaced by several imps and a gargoyle. like what the hell????? 😭
So i conclusion: Elden Ring version 1.0.0 is broken to hell and back and it's honestly hilarious 😂

my onesided beef with the f1 wikipedia pages
entirely silly and not at all long time enemy building over hundreds of hours trawling through the pages of the f1 wiki...
1. URL INCONSITENCY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The base URL of the season pages changes format randomly between 1980 and 1981. Why. i dont understand. this prevents people from simply editing the year in the url to get to the new page. why. i just want to know
2. FORMATTING
The column widths are often inconsistent between seasons and sometimes even inbetween races. Look at the table for the 1957 Standings:
Tumblr media
whilst it Could make sense in the 50s when drivers shared cars and therefore results, wikipedia literally does it for the Season After That, where the columns are a lovely standardised size, despite the shared results.
Tumblr media
And when the entire column for the driver names is double length (firstname and surname on different rows), it makes checking the results from those seasons an Awful experience.
They also have no reason for this, as for the more recent seasons with 20+ races, they either make the table go off screen (e.g. 2021) or implemented the ability to scroll the table left to right (2022+)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is also an issue with the Entries/Driver and Constructor Tables, which results in large empty spaces being left near the beginning of the page for a handful of seasons (e.g. 1981, 1989)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. CONSTRUCTORS TABLE
this caused a spreadsheet rage quit at one point in my life.
In 2014 after the drivers were able to have customised driver numbers, the consutructors championship table switched from recording results for each driver in each team seperately
Tumblr media Tumblr media
to grouping and sorting the teams performance per race. for a reason I do not know.
it really doesn't matter unless you dont Realise they did this and you record 4 seasons worth of team results for a spreadsheet by hand and realise you have to redo it all. ouch
4. CONTENTS LIST/LAYOUT
When you navigate through similar pages everyday, you assume you know where everything is. if you try to do this with the f1 wiki pages, you are proved a fool frequently.
There are Inconsistent Section Header Names and Grouping (often switching between having regulation changes being its own Header to part of the race by race season report). They cant seem to decide on a consistent format, or what consitutes a Header, a Subtitle or just to be mixed in with everything else
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(1989,2007,2020)
They are infact so inconsistent, here is a list of All the Names they use for the Same Thing:
Championship Summary (1950, 1952)
World Championship Season Summary (1951)
Championship Report (1953-1956, 1958-1959, 1962-1970, 1972, 1973)
Season Summary (1957, 1971, 1997-1999, 2001, 2003, 2020-2024)
Season Review (1960-1961, 1979, 1995)
Season Report (1974-1978, 1980-1990, 1996, 2004-2007,2013-2019)
Race-by-Race (1991-1994)
Report (2000, 2008-2011)
Race Summaries (2012)
N/A: 2002
Heres a visual aid i made because its so weird
Tumblr media
IN CONCLUSION
I have missed some things off this list due to a) this being too long and incomprehensible already, and b) i forgot.
Anyways. All to say I spend too long on this wiki and I would just appreciate some consistency aorund here. I don't know how you become a Wikipedia editor but as soon as i figure it out maybe i can fix all of this. Hopefully someone enjoyed reading through all of this!

okay so watching the finale raw was definitely an experience and here is why:
i had to focus extra hard on what they were saying
my eyes kept drifting down to nonexistent subtitles
took a bit to get used to a new atmosphere (bilingual people know there's a difference from the moon and back between subtitles and actual words even with the most proper translation, it's a completely different experience altogether)
while this whole thing was going on i was trying to figure out if the plot was heading anywhere i'd like it to (it ultimately disappointed me a bit but that's cause i am denying the characters their autonomy, the resolution was in fact very them from what i could tell and they def need a second season, this is nowhere near done)
i kept listening for the part where mizuki finds out "the glasses guy" as he calls him is man-san's husband, i can't tell if he ever did lmao i just know yoh was like "what, can't i hang with man-san since i've introduced you to each other?" and they discussed the friends in yoh's life so i'm guessing the hubby is off-limits anyways
started spacing out at about the cafe scene cause i didnt catch the longer parts of the first 9 minutes (except for the "i dont want you to do this and that" part but i had already seen preview subs for it)
we are all cheering for mizuki finally getting to eat his shitty curry! i chanted at the end bahah
basically got all the important parts and yet not the MOST important parts like yes they both confessed but?? i want clarity lmao
got most of the "i want you to greet me when i come back" convo from the get go though <3 which is why mizuki jumping yoh like a wild beast wasnt a surprise to me hahah, i still was shocked he went for the neck though. it feels like he is very deliberate with his kisses on the lips? and id think neck kisses are more indicative of lust than love (though i might be wrong, what do i know) so it didnt make sense to me he'd go for the neck after smth so sweet he's been waiting to hear for months? years? but maybe it just made him horny, he's like that
overall knowing ill watch it again to clarify and have translations proven wrong will be a bit messy, i prefer not going through this for a finale but i decided i might as well..super curious to see what i missed though!!

Granada Homes Season 2 thoughts
(again, straight from the notepad app)
--
1. COPP (7 aug)
Well i didn't recognise the title at first bc i read the story in Romanian and the translation was. Different than i would've expected. But yeah. I think i said "oh i did read this" three or four times.
The guy was... creepy. And i did not enjoy the telling-funny-stories bit. I'm usually not impressed with "and this is the ending of a very funny story!" *Everybody laughs* bits in tv shows/movies, i can only remember one time** where this sort of thing made me laugh. But... Yeah. Were we supposed to find him funny then? Miss Hunter did. Anyway, it just seemed extra creepy to me.
I think my favourite part was Holmes talking about the dangers of remote rural areas. I mean. He's right.
**The pool story from Doctor Who S4Ep10 Midnight. Here it is, 1:02
2. GREE (8 aug)
Watson being shocked that Holmes has a brother:))
The quiet bit in the club was actually a bit creepy. Unsettling at least.
Also i think Watson was trying to guess which one was Mycroft.
Was that one child tripping unscripted? Seemed so.
I loved the train scenes. Oh and i loved the scene where that guy falls out and Holmes has too phisically hold back both Sophia and Watson. Poor Watson seemed genuinely horrified even tho the guy was a murderer.
Bonus:
Me: Look!! They're holding hands!!
Roommate: Uh. A man just died?
Me: And? :D
3. NORW (9 aug)
Oo i enjoyed this one.
I had no idea what was gonna happen, did not read the original story.
Obviously the premise was pretty cool, i kinda called that he faked his death to blame the boy but still.
I love seeing Holmes in disguise.
Also, the part with Watson coaxing him to eat something?? Bro when i tell you i teared up. He was so gentle with him. *Massive sigh* I love them sm...
Also when Holmes motioned for that housekeeper to go away? He almost killed both of us in one go- i choked on air, my roommate choked on her drink. He's so drmatic, he's a danger to society (affectionate)
Also both me and my roommate wanted to kick Lestrade in the face at some point.
Yeah
4. RESI (10 aug)
"What in the magnus archives is going on?"
Twas a nightmare.
I liked this episode. Fun fact: i am currently midway thru this story in the books. So. Pretty cool. Yea.
Man i was so proud of Watson for deducing stuff about Holmes and then Holmes was like nahh actually you're very wrong
(I did guess he was tapping to a song tho, it was pretty obvious)
...i must say. The... Vocabulary in this episode. ...interesting. 👀
Does Holmes really not know where he keeps his papers?
Poor Mrs Hudson tho :((
I actually saw that *enters the room* *screams* scene a couple years ago, but i didn't know what adaptation it was from.
5. REDH (11 aug)
Mhmmmmmhmhm i dont like thissssssss
I know this story very well and i did not. Expect Moriarty.
I mean it makes sense bc the next one is the final problem (mmmmm😞😞) but i didn't quite put two and two together
[Also i kinda expected them to be lazier and just introduce him at the beginning of FINA]
Umm but yeah about the episode. As i said, i knew the story, one of my favourites since i was a child.
I really loved Watson this episode. He gets to explain Holmes' deductions again. Oh and the part where he was trying not to laugh while the client talked about the letter A.
I guess both him and Holmes lost it at "artificial kneecaps"
Yet another episode where someone doubts Holmes' abilities. (Tho this one was slightly less annoying about it)
"Amateur"
Hm
At least Watson jumped to correct him
Oh and i think my brain had an error at the end when Holmes lights Watson's cigarette while speaking french. Like i had subtitles but i have no idea what he said.
Roommate didn't catch it either ("for the best, i choose to believe he was telling Watson he loves him:))" )
Also: Holmes at the concert looked like a cat. A very pleased cat
Also also: If i ever jump over a couch to get someone to stay with me and it's not a life-or-death situation, consider me absolutely smitten.
But.. yk.. that's just me 🤷
6. FINA (11 aug)
Well it certainly got my heart pounding
The first five minutes or so were actually the worst i think
I mean to say, he looked more in control of himself at the end than in those first 5 minutes. Like i legit almost started crying seeing him scramble for his life like that. Horrible
Mrs Hudson wanting to celebrate...... Stop..
Did NOT enjoy looking at Watson through that sniper's lens. (+ I had Bbc Sherlock flashbacks)
Honestly about the whole middle part.. i don't know what i can say that has not been said. Them in the dark, with only a candle, the "will you come with me" part, Watson rushing to the train and looking so worried bc he wasn't seeing Holmes
*Sigh*
And the fuckin letter. The fact that Holmes knew it had to be a trick but he didn't wanna give it away so he just. Waved him off so hurriedly.
Yea yea run along we'll meet up in a bit I'm not even gonna look at you go that's how normal this goodbye is (I'm probably never gonna see you again)
Oh and the way he rushed back when it clicked.
That's probably the first time in ~a week they were apart. And the one time he leaves him on his own...
Yeaaaah
The fight was silly. And kinda. Anticlimactic. I mean at least make Moriarty have a gun.
(He'd allow Holmes to write the letter while holding him at gunpoint. The letter is done. He approaches to execute him. Holmes lunges at him to get the gun. They struggle. The gun falls, so now they're just beating each other up. Aaand then they fall.)
But. Yeah. Poor Watson. It was a very restrained reaction but still. It was so sad to see him cry.
Oh and as if that was not enough, Watson's "this is the last time I'm telling you a story about Holmes" bit was double damage bc.. yeah. This is the last time we see this guy talk about Sherlock. This guy being the actor but still.
(Ngl it reminded me of the Doctor Who regeneration scenes)

i defeated/completed Indigo Park
Tumblr media
im not used to playing games this big, i mean were talking almost 9gb here
i dont play enough horror games. even then, most of my experience is with action horror like idv where its more of a theme, and rpgmaker games. mascot horror is a bit outside my wheelhouse, but i am aware of it. who couldnt be? i can only imagine its the genre when you wanna make a profit going indie. while the genre itself was popularized when fnaf really took off, this format of a setpiece-heavy horror fps with light puzzle elements was really popularized by poppy playtime. and garten of banban. and rainbow friends. and-
anyway, ive been told that this project is headed by the youtuber UniqueGeese. i cant say im familiar, but it looks like theyre really experienced when it comes to mascot horror. its really neat to see someone with roots in critique and transformative content break out and make their own game. judging from the sheer quantity of videos, he sure seems to know what hes talking about, so its neat to see how the experience of a player translates to developer.
either way, it feels like this was a passion project, not a cash grab. sure, its free, but so is a lot of first chapters. it reminds me about how gacha games give you a bunch of free rolls when you first sign up. well, thats an unfair comparison (at least in indigo parks case), this feels more comparable to a demo for a full game. its not just an enticement, so it feels easier to pay for the rest of the game incrementally instead of watching youtubers play, it feels like a surface-level experiment to give the inevitable next episode something to build off of
so hows the game, anyway? well, its short. the credits rolled about 50 minutes in, and i was taking my time. there wasnt really a gimmick or anything, either. like, there wasnt a thing to make the gameplay stand out or make the puzzles unique. hell, there werent puzzles, the closest was turning around to see a missing gear or two. its refreshing to see something so straightforward, but im worried than not having something special and distinct will make it get lost in the crowd. which is a shame! i had a lot of fun, and id love to see a chapter 2. all i ask is that there be some more accessibility options. i really appreciated the subtitles, but maybe some mouse sensitivity settings would be nice. other than that, just a really solid and charming horror game!
also, full and somewhat nsfw disclosure. the only reason i know about this game is because furries i follow are down horrendous for rambley. they either want to fuck the shit out of him or get transformed/hypnotized into him. i have no idea if this was on purpose? like, when i look at that gangly blue thing from poppy playtime, i think "oh its a cute thing thats scary-fied, for the demographic of kids that wouldve loved sonic.exe and creepypasta a generation ago". its just transparently targeted, yknow? with rambley, i have no idea. like, hes cute in a mascot way, but i think its the personality that mainly draws people in. hes a cute little fella who loves trains and wants you to have fun, and also he sounds like basketball from bfdi. he might count as a shortstack too? hes targeting such a niche that i dont think it could be targeted; like, roald dahl didnt know about inflation, he just invented a new subgenre of kink by accident. i dunno, honestly hes not really my type, but more power to you if you wanna ride his train

Its missing the fab five titans hours
Imagine one day they had to investigate something in Atlantis- whether JLA or titans related- and instead of looking at video footage
But unfortunately, the only people that know Atlantean is Arthur, Garth (Kaldur, because I suppose this can be used in a young justice setting) and maybe Batman.
So you would see on camera (as a viewer) the footage, but like in young justice, you would have subtitles in land people language (the one person who asked me if I was Atlantean because I use the words 'land people', youve been making me happy, thank you, and maybe I am, who knows).
And then the camera pans away to a further shot of the team actually watching the footage, and my brain put subtitiles in thier video too. They also got subtitles. And for some reason, that made me cackle out in public. The characters also get subtitiles. I dont know why it makes me laugh.
Also wouldnt it be cool? Batman programming his computers to hold non-land human languages. Does he have a frickin bat-google translate for this. He would. Oh my god.

okay. i think im far enough removed from last night to like actually voice my thoughts on this movie. oppenheimer spoilers ahead lol!
in all i think its a fantastic film. like its a ridiculously well made and well thought out movie technically and structurally. granted i didn’t expect anything less, but it was nice to see and confirm lol. i will say though that it wasn’t necessarily the movie i was expecting.
Going in, i thought it would be a kind of drawn out movie all about the trinity test, and like, the leadup to the trinity test. That’s kinda how its portrayed in the trailer, and that is certainly Not what the movie is. It’s not even how it’s framed at all. The trinity test is like a necessary detour for the actual framing of the movie, which is the hearing for oppenheimer’s security clearance in 1954, and the cabinet confirmation of lewis strauss. A lot of the discussion of the movie just kind of assumes that it only focuses on the trinity test and the actual creation of the atomic bomb, so i just assumed that too. It is at its core a biopic and in hindsight it’s hard to believe i ever doubted that. Now that i recognize that my thoughts definitely shifted.
I will say, the first 45 minutes or so are a fucking whirlwind. Theres barely a second to breathe. In the moment i thought this was a serious flaw, but now after seeing the whole film it was for sure a structural choice. That whirlwind aspect of the first section is not the rule for the entire film, and i didn’t have any similar qualms throughout the rest of the movie. But god, there were so many scenes back to back to back that barely let the dialogue and emotions sit for even a moment, that i thought it was a byproduct of the 3 hour runtime. Looking back, it was just a way to show the whirlwind nature of oppenheimer’s life at the time. Did i enjoy that in the moment? no. i recognize why they did it though, and i like it conceptually. in practice it just made me so confused. which leads me to my next point
this movie is so fucking confusing in ways that are probably just a skill issue. Like dont get me wrong, the plot itself isn’t that confusing. Did it take me a minute to realize? yes. But after that it wasn’t that difficult to follow. what made the movie so confusing to me was the sheer size of the cast of characters. There are so many white men in this movie. Like so many. And they are all treated as important. and i could not remember any of their names. And frequently their names are brought up in reference to eachother without any connection to their faces. I’m sure if you’re deeply familiar with oppenheimer and the other scientists involved on the manhattan project that wouldn’t have been an issue, but for me? i had no clue who the hell they were talking about half the time. in a similar vein, i miss subtitles. i tried so hard to catch all of the dialogue but sometimes i just couldn’t do it. like at the end of the movie, arguably the most important line of the whole film, i just didn’t understand what he said. I had to google it afterwards. Are these skill issues? yes. but they made the film harder to watch so im mentioning them.
now do i think this movie glorifies oppenheimer? yes. but only in the way that no matter how you slice it, making a movie centered around one man and his worldview is inherently glorifying. What the movie glorifies is oppenheimer’s intelligence and opinions (and even then to an extent), not his actions. this film is critical of the use of the atomic bomb. it’s critical of the actions of the united states. there are plenty of scenes where you stare in horror at the thoughts and feelings of the us government and how it manifests. that scene alone with president truman and oppenheimer made me sick to my stomach. but oppenheimer is portrayed as a genius overall. he is portrayed as right in his feelings and emotions, complicated and messy as they are. It’s hard to say what exactly about oppenheimer they do glorify since oppenheimer himself is kind of all over the place in his opinions in the first place. but strauss is shown as an evil man for holding a grudge against oppenheimer, and that’s the truth.
i think thematically it did right. i enjoyed it overall. but i can very easily see this movie have a similar reception to american psycho, as those who focused on the objective and meaning of the film will understand its thematic elements, and those who simply watched it without considering any of that will form a black and white opinion on oppenheimer himself. Patrick bateman bros who think they’re just like him are gonna do the same thing to oppenheimer. that’s a fact. the problem is though that instead of a fictional psychopath we’re discussing a historical figure who is, in some ways, responsible for the death of hundreds upon thousands of people. the discourse surrounding this film will become legendary. the film bro “pretty fly for a white guy” edit needs to be redone with this movie included in it. i am excited to see its inevitable creation.
ANYWAYS. outside of that it’s a really good movie. i liked how they shot strauss’s perspective in black and white and oppenheimer’s in color. i liked the sound design (overwhelming as it was at times). i like how it played with the background when oppenheimer was spiraling in his thoughts. i thought that the trinity test scene was one of the most jaw dropping things i’ve ever witnessed in a theater. that scene of oppenheimer after the test giving his little speech is gonna stick with me for the rest of my life. ludwig goransson’s score is spectacular as it always is. its a very good film.
OH. theres also like. 5 women in this movie. 3 of them have been fucked by oppenheimer. one is his sister in law. one is a scientist. thats pretty much it. and 3 of those 5 have combined maybe 2 minutes of screentime. the other two (florence pugh and emily blunt) are more integral. Kitty oppenheimer is going to get a skylar white esque reaction from the general population but that’s okay because i loved her. she’s my everything.
theres probably more to say about this film (the way it uses oppenheimer’s jewish heritage, the shorlisting of the natives of los alamos (who had 2 mentions the entire film and one of which was by presdient truman btw)) but i dont have the understanding to dive into that. other people could handle it better. so i think that’s it for me.
THAT BEING SAID, if i see one more barbenheimmer joke im gonna start punching walls. its distasteful. not just because neither of those films deserve to be condensed and packaged into neat little memes but also because you people can’t be normal about it. i swear to god. nobody gives a shit that you think the barbie movie is this grand incredible film that needs to be taken seriously and that oppenheimer is also good too. shut up. we get it. greta gerwig is a good filmmaker that isnt news, and if you thought it was, brother i believe you are the problem.
TLDR. It’s a good movie. you should watch it yourself.

i zoned out thru most of 'smile' bc i was having my cool breakdown but i rly dont feel like i missed out on a lot whatsoever. the mirror i got had hangul subtitled baked in which was a little distracting but it beats the camrip i was about to watch last week
quick review and spoilers for a 5/10 horror movie
tl;dr if ur gonna watch something that has a Very Long Woman in it and ends with an old song just watch barbarian instead
suicide being a driving factor in horror never really squicks me out but they did go hard on the sound design in this film, esp since it starts with a girl slicing her face and neck (ineffective method starting on her cheek, too much room for error) to kill herself. the blood was very watery
can't believe in the year of our lord 2022 that "is she just CRAAAZYYY? NO ONE believes her!!!" was the main struggle
mild points for having mentally ill characters that weren't outright demonized, but damn that bar is low!!
the reverse deborah loganing at the end was a little freaky, but i think they should have had her cheeks tear as long as the big guy was unhinging her jaw so much. anyway *crawls in ur mouth but is like 12 ft tall*
Tumblr media
they really were restrained with the body horror overall, i wish they'd gone a bit harder on it, especially since the jumpscares were pretty lame
the entity's design was pretty cool, i wish we had gotten to see more of it instead of normal people going >:) every 20 minutes or so
it takes the form of her mom and then she got Long. then tears off her face and u see the Big Man in action.
the fact that there was an "it was a DREEEAM" fakeout 3/4ths of the way in actually got me, i was about to be super pissed at the main character for stabbing one of her patients. during this scene the entity tears off its face for the first time but it's just a normal human skinless face beneath
the mom's suicide traumatizing the main character is like, yeah. duh. obviously that would scar a kid. but the thing is that the big guy is a really sloppy metaphor for trauma because OOOO you cant get rid of it but u can always. like. traumatize other people??? i guess? like. ok
it's not like it's supposed to be a deep avant-garde a24 horror flick or anything but they go out of their way to talk about it and use therapy lingo all throughout, so it was worth mentioning they did so poorly. not even in an offensive way either
the credit sequence rolls with "lollipop" for no reason other than they rly said "let's use a SpOoOky old song ooooo"
uhhh then it ends with her passing on the curse because of course it does
serviceable, good for people just past entry-level who might not have a ton of experience with horror

Ichikawa is a bizarrely mature and responsible teenager more mature and collected than hsi 32 yr old coworker old ass soul ass angsty teen also there's other major new characters that got introduced last ep but i have no reason to learn their names yet
Kafka passed the test and came in late to build suspense apparently Kafka passed inspite of his abysmal test scores b/c he's a good team player and kept on mission and also he made the proctor laugh gods damnit, Kafka, inside thoughts. Dont shout inside thoughts why make the choice to keep embarrassing this man constantly? Pls for my sake stop
pls stop the proctor also thinks that Kafka has something to do with the misterious waaaaay too strong kaiju signature that appeared during the test b/c it seems a bit too much to be a coincidence that Kafka's vital signs dissapeared at the same time it showed up they tell rich girl what happened and why Kafka is a kaiju also Kafka pls dont described what happened as you ate a kaiju and then became a kaiju, while that's what technicly happened that's not the most accurate way to describe it also both teenagers agree that Kafka shouldnt turn himself in to the Defense Force b/c they'd either kill him or experiment on him
or use his body parts to make weapons out of well I'm certainly getting a work out in having to fucking pace every time they decide to embarrass this old man
pls stop. i might hav eto mute to get past this bath scene yeah muting was the way to go. there's very likely a fatphobic joke happening about Kafka's gut that he was holding in while showing off his muscles on his arms and back b/c the teens were bickering about their bods and who's was better and this man keeps feelinbg the need to look cool to teens i'm not turning the sound back on till this scene is over. I've not got subtitles so if I miss shit I miss shit I dont care
there's legit only so much i can take and Kaiju no. 8 is pushing the limit /derogatory 'her muscles are basiclly perfict' what fucking muscles does tiger lady have? are they hidden behind the stick limbs?
huh, being ex besties with the icon of everyone who wants to be a monster slayer in the country apparently earns Kafka a few points with the guys
training and bonding montage also tiger lady's tiger doesn't like Kafka I assume b/c it can smell that he's a kaiju again this is moving very quickly Kafka is trying very hard to improve his physical abilities so he doesnt get cut from the force
huh gets confroted by the proctor/vice captain and declares intent to take the man's job

1/2 And we are at 4x10, i should probably say that he did threaten with a lawsuit if the episode doesnt have Britin being cute/happy, he is literally one of us. HE SAW THE BEGINNING WHERE IT SHOWS A TINY PART OF BRIANS BED AND HEARD MOANS AND HE IMMEDIATELY WENT ‘it’s Brian! okaaaay, look at them having sexy time again. I am so fucking glad that Justin’s hair is growing back. (That surgery flashback happens) What just happened? Why did we go from soft to rough? Is he having surgery flashbacks? What’s going on? Did he lose his hard on? See, if the fucking Doctor didn’t get mad at me, i would’ve had ALL my questions answered but noooo, now I’m in the dark about my Bri Bri’s health. Oh i feel bad for Brian, this has to suck. But its okay Bri Bri. Things happen. If this was season 2, hed yell at Justin by now.’ And we are now at Emmett and Drew in the motel ‘what the fuck? How did we get here? DUDE…i think he’s not straight..(drew has his little internalized homophobia moment) um dude.. what the fuck? *deep manly voice* i throw ball far! I catch ball! I no gay, me straight! SPORTS *hits his chest* hetero bro!…dude, i think you need to look up the word straight. EMMETT YOU DESERVE BETTER CAUSE THIS IS BULLSHIT’ we are at Lindsay and Sam now ‘full offense but his art is not worth acting all *waves his hand at lindsay* whatever the hell that is. IS SHE JEALOUS THAT HE FLIRTED WITH A DIFFERENT WOMAN? Lindsay? What?’ And we are back at Brian ‘i missed this cute motherfucker *he is watching Brian at work like it’s the best thing ever* i need more of this. He is a beast at his work. No wonder he thinks he’s the shit. (Brian says that line about juggling balls and ted looks ready to tell jokes) THIS IS WHAT I WANTED! THIS! THEM! BEING BESTIES! *looks at me all worried* thats what the youth say nowadays right? Besties? I’m right, right? BRIAN LIKES TEDS SUIT! AND CONFIDENCE! Okay so brian and ted? New favorite duo! But also brian, ted and Cynthia? New favorite trio!’ Mikey and Justin are now on the screen and he is all excited ‘THIS IS ALSO NICE! Justin and Mike being best friends! FUCKING FINALLY! I knew Mike had some good in him. Finally he is done pissing me off. THEY HAVENT FUCKED SINCE THE SURGERY?! Theyre going to get HERBS?! FOR BRIAN? FOR SEX? not what i thought of when i said besties but okay?’ And now we are at Ben and his student scene ‘what the fuck is going on over here. Ben had potential in the beginning! What the fuck happened with him since then and what the fuck is this shit? OH THE GUY IS HITTING ON HIM! BEN WHAT THE FUCK’ and the Brian/Deb scene is about to happen ‘IS DEBBIE IGNORING BRIAN? Wait have they not even talked since vic died? DEB WHAT THE FUCK? Did you see how he looked after deb? He is SAD! Someone fix this because i cant handle him being sad (brian runs after deb) oh i guess Brian is gonna fix this. This is new. Deb he needs you. He needs a mom! Shit does jen know yet?! Look at him fixing his messes. MY BABY IS GROWING UP! (Brian tells deb) HOLY FUCKING SHIT. *he literally teared up at Deb being all mom to brian and when she like buttons up his jacket* I hate that the only time he has a mom is when horrible shit happens. He needs someone to look after him as much as he looks after them. Also why is this literally me if i was around Brian? WHY ARE WE ASKING ABOUT HIS MOTHER? FUCK HIS MOM. She doesnt deserve to know! (Deb hugs brian and he once again tears up) yes he will be okay! Finally someone is hugging him!’ ‘Wait Emmett is going to get Drew a job? He was all im hetero not gay and being a bitch about it and he’s helping him? Emmett, no. You deserve better’ mikey and justin scene is up!! ‘Look at the new besties! If you told season 1 Michael that he’d be HELPING Justin fuck Brian, he’d have a stroke. *he is absolutely dying out of laughter at the china store scene* what are they saying? Remember when that one time, i accidentally put Chinese subtitles and thought i spoke Chinese?’ ‘BRIAN! Dont you worry! Blondie is on his way with boner herbs!’
I should probably say that he did threaten with a lawsuit if the episode doesnt have Britin being cute/happy, he is literally one of us. HE IS ONE OF US. I seriously love the idea of bringing a lawsuit against CowLip for emotional pain and suffering.
I am so fucking glad that Justin’s hair is growing back. <- One of us!
If this was season 2, hed yell at Justin by now. GROWTH! (only to have it ripped away in S5)
OUR BABY IS GROWING UP
Joan doesn’t deserve to know.
And Emmett does deserve better. (Sorry Drew)
OH MY GOD even I remember when he put on Chinese subtitles and thought he spoke Chinese. I’m one of your family now. And yes, if you had told Justin and Mikey they would be collaborating to help Justin fuck Brian in s1 or s3… strokes would be had.

GAHHH Thank you this was more than I expected!! I appreciate the genuineness :) I've been very harsh on myself but lately I'm able to draw something I like or that makes me happy compared to three years ago, I'd call that a improvement. It's nice to hear I'm not the only one who struggles through these! Every artist has their ups and downs be it their hobby or their job. Thank you for talking with me!! I was worried the amount of asks were clogging your blog LOL I don't know your timezone so I hope you're having a nice breakfast lunch dinner this is a reminder for everyone to eat
On another topic I listened to every artist you listed! I love women. Love every turkish woman out there with a strong voice. I'm glad you listed them I was listening to each of them the whole day while drawing, I missed turkish songs in general 😭 There's something about them I can't put into words. Modern turkish songs lack the instruments and emotions (?) the old ones have. It feels so dull and lifeless and a lot of the times they're another recycle of 50 other pop songs ever. I think kusura bakma is great I can't believe it doesn't have the same recognition the others have? I've heard her songs in movies before! Those vintage turkish movies about love or tragedy (probably) I suggest you watch them! I don't know if they have English subtitles though, otherwise they're neat
YESSS!!!! thats good!!!! also omg dont worry at all, i enjoy answering your asks! whats the point of a blog if i wouldnt be comfortable posting something on it :) LOL also good timing, you caught me right during dinner omg im so glad to hear that!!! that sounds like a dream. good music can help with art soooo much and i wish i was drawing rn too! also i definitely agree omg. like maybe i was just raised by my parents who hate everything new (like old people do <3) but i so agree, i feel like old turkish music has so much drama and uses traditional instruments that complement the style of singing thats typical for turkish music, does that make sense? like you can find good artists doing modern turkish music too i think but its different.... i mean hmm i dont really listen to tarkans newer songs, nil karaimbrahimgil has some songs i used to listen to as well. göksel too... but those albums are also from the early/mid 2000s so they barely count as modern anymore. and i dont think they compare to older turkish songs AT ALL
ALSO yes yes please send me movie recommendations!!!! dont worry about subs, i can understand turkish well enough LOL its more the speaking thats an issue for me. i would love to know if theres any movies i can annoy my family with hehehe

i got tagged by the kind @bourbon-ontherocks to do the language tag game thingy so let’s goooo
below the cut bc my english language journey has many twists and turns (jk im just a wordy person) (in writing) (as you may know by now)
How many languages do you speak?
two bc im an embarrassment to all my high school modern language teachers. so just dutch and english im afraid
What’s your native language?
my first language is dutch
Which language you’re most comfortable with?
it’s unnerving as hell but............it’s increasingly becoming english? youd think dutch would be the answer and it is in some ways, but considering most of my degree was in english, i genuinely struggle to express myself in dutch more when speaking on topics related to my field. so basically whenever someone tries to debate me im like !! i know but i dont know how to say this in dutch !! aah !! help !!! many thoughts, zero coherent sentences
the only reason im less comfortable w english is when speaking, mostly bc of my pronunciation. speaking english is something i do considerably less compared to reading, writing, and listening in/to english, especially now that im done w my studies.
also! i notice that while i understand the meaning of english words, sometimes when i deliberately literally translate them in my head (a much slower process than the intuitive way i normally speak/listen to english) the meaning hits me more? like, it sinks in a little more, it lands closer to home? english not being my first language means it creates some emotional distance from what im talking about.
so, i now sometimes try to deliberately seek out books and articles in dutch on important topics, bc that way i take in more of the depth of meaning and i feel addressed more directly on an intuitive level. does that make sense? for example, reading about racism and white privilege in english gives me a little more distance from the subject tho it shouldn’t, by virtue of it being in a language that is not the one i was raised with. so especially topics relating to (my) societal privileges, i try to also engage with in dutch, and not just in english. im not gonna stop learning about them in english, there’s a fuckton more information out there on any topic, really, in english, and so many people i learn so much from speak english. but i gotta keep reminding myself to also consume dutch articles/books/etc., especially when it’s very important that i really hear what’s being said
Where or how did you learn English?
formally? i started in primary school and then all of high school (we dont have middle school here, fyi). but really, what helped the most was reading books and watching tv shows and films in english.
first, id read the dutch translation of a book. then id read the english version, already knowing the story. then slowly i got to a point where i didnt need to already know the book before being able to read it in english.
same with tv and film -- first id watch dubbed versions of tv shows, which is common practice in the netherlands with shows aimed at a young audience (that’s the extent of it as far as i can tell - other than kids’ movies, films in the cinema are not dubbed). then i got to a point where i could watch those same shows in english with dutch subtitles (shows airing earlier in the day would be the dubbed version, and in the evening theyd be subbed). then i got to a point where i could watch shows that aren’t dubbed in the first place, with dutch subtitles. then i got to the stage where i watched shows with english subtitles. and now i forget subtitles exist and only watch things in english. the only time i’ll turn on (english) subtitles is if there are people whose accents i find more difficult to understand.
i think consuming media in english in these stages (which took years! slow process! happened alongside of high school english classes!) is what helped me learn english the most, next to formal training. that’s really how my vocab improved and how it keeps improving, i guess. tho the amount of times i encounter a word i dont know the meaning of has significantly lessened
(also what helped is living in sweden and in the uk for a few months. no choice but communicating in english. and like i said, most of degree was in english so i had to read and write in english like every day. in conclusion: being surrounded with english on a daily basis is why im at this level, not just from watching hannah montana)
When outlining a fic, which language are you thinking in?
ok so i dont really outline fics ??? it’s more like. a few bullet points of vague ideas (in english) and then i start. but if i were to finally get my shit together and actually properly outline, id do so in english
When planning a fic, which language are you thinking in?
yeah also in english
Is the first draft in your native language, or is it in English?
also english. it wouldnt even occur to me to draft or outline in dutch. i might if the show itself was in dutch but since it’s in english....ok wait no i wouldnt, im far too lazy to translate a whole draft and i commend people that do!
What do you [think] of your English?
ummmmm well. i think i could improve on the speaking front and that my pronunciation leaves a lot to be desired. and i think i could stand to be a little less arrogant sometimes bc i tend to think i know meanings of words but sometimes i dont know the exact nuance of a word or all of its meanings. so if i were a little less cocky about the whole ordeal id probably improve more. annnnd bc these days i learn most new words on online, i should be more proactive about figuring out where terms originate from and pay attention to whether a word or a phrase is okay for me to use or not (like not appropriating AAVE).
other than that i think my english is fine. and i think that me thinking in english more often than in dutch means im what dutch people talk about when they say dutch is dying out lmaoooo you’re WELCOME
im tagging................. ok im actually not even sure who in this fandom doesnt have english as a first language? so im just gonna tag fic writers and hope they speak multiple languages. like my wife @mrslackles (i should know this about my wife! sorry!) or @bethsuglywigs ?? @septiembur ??? @riosnecktattoo ???? somebody pls send help. ok you know what im just gonna double tag @bathroombreaks and @missmaxime
also whether i accurately tagged you or not, no pressure. also if you’re reading this and english isnt your first language, TAG YOU’RE IT
