I'm not really into Zelda and the lore is a bit fuzzy to me, but my brother is and we were talking earlier.

I suggested that a way to stop Ganondorf would be to kidnap him while he's still a baby and raise him in Hyrule. Killing him would be a little fucked up since he's, y'know, a baby...and killing him off early would only bring his eventual rebirth even faster. (Not that kidnapping a literal baby is a much better moral option by any means dhsd)

My brother knows way more about Zelda lore than I do and he was stumped about this plan. Sure Ganondorf is just a little cursed, but there's also the nature vs nurture concept. If he constantly doesn't have "You have to destroy Hyrule and get the triforce!!" into his skull every waking moment of his life, then maybe that could help him out a little? Just put him in Hyrule and give him a normal life. Let him go fishing or something? Teach him how to make pie?

Someone that is smarter than us can weigh in?

“Do you have a cigarette?”

“Fox, I don’t think smoking–”

“Do you or do you not have a cigarette?”

His voice is sharp and harsh and clipped and raw. Thorn doesn’t hear that tone often, and when he does it’s nothing good.

So he reaches into the drawer of his desk and pulls out a box. He hasn’t touched it in months, and neither has Fox, but even so it only has one stick left. He pulls it out and hands it to his brother, who puts it in his mouth and produces a lighter from one of the pouches on his belt.

His hands shake so violently that he almost drops it.

With gentle hands, Thorn takes the lighter from Fox and lights the cigarette for him. Fox looks at him reproachfully.

“Shut up. Not gonna let you burn yourself. Or worse, fumble a lit cig and torch the barracks. If you wanna deal with lung cancer down the road, that’s on you.”

Fox takes the first drag. Smoke curls from cracked, chapped lips. He says nothing.

“…Did something happen?” 

(Of course something happened.)

But still, no response. Just another deep, slow drag. He seems to relax, just a little; walks out and over to the open hangar platform and sags against the wall. 

Hesitation. 

Thorn follows him out. Puts a tentative hand on his shoulder. He doesn’t pull away, doesn’t even try to shrug it off. Just sighs, a little. 

(In the brighter light of the planet-city, Thorn can make out the faint, salty residue of long-since-dried tears. Tears shed unwillingly, silently, and alone. He knows better than to pry into their origin.)

And then– Fox brings a shaky hand (oh, his hands never shake) to rest on Thorn’s, and laces their fingers together. Squeezes, gently. There’s a heartbeat, and then he buckles into his brother. Not a sound. Just complete and utter collapse.

And Thorn holds him. 

They stare out into the cityscape in silence.

okay i just put them away so doing this by memory but my lovely suitemate got some pkmn cards in a white elephant gift exchange and offered me some so i now have physical pkmn cards!!! the ones i currently have are: garganacl ex, electivire, mienshao, salazzle (most likely going to give away to friend from home), mow rotom, pangoro (YAY!!!!), and eevee :D

the negative effect this has is that between this and the pkmn trading card app i am now like in the mentality of wanting to buy pokemon cards and packs. cards isn't so bad because those aren't always expensive like i COULD just buy a chandelure card online et cetera. but packs are more expensive + i'm ngl i do not know if i want to risk subsequent disappointment. this being said... maybe as like. a way in the future birthday gift. or something.

Translation Shenanigans

So Ghost of the Shipwreck was the first of the books I realized was drastically different in the non-English versions compared to the Scholastic cut, which resulted in me wanting to compare the versions that were available to me: the English, Spanish and Chinese translations.

The Chinese one was interesting in particular because uh, well :3

Context: “呵呵” denotes a sense of dissatisfaction in Chinese, and the better the enunciation of the “呵呵”, the more dissatisfied you are with whatever you’re ranting to your bestie about today. And it's not like the Chinese translators didn't know about the existence of "哈哈", the actual Chinese onomatopoeia for laughing-- they use it when Vi is checking on the grandma.

So this was an intentional decision in phrasing, as far as I can see :]

Extra: Every single version of this scene has Vi look at the grandma, totally bluescreening from how she takes this soooooooo

so, hi. a rebrand was cardinal.

many reasons, won't get into all, but i wanted to distance myself from my online presence a little bit. you-centric blogs are fun until they aren't, and i learned the hard way.

so this is me! here, i'll be focusing more on my art and the things i create, and i'll try to put less pressure on myself and make sure it's a safe and enjoyable space for me. i'll also be less forward about myself from now on due to safety concerns and personal preference, but please feel free to interact with me still!
