every time a new SA allegation of a favored celeb arises, i'm reminded of the absolutely soul-crushing experience of the depp/heard trial in which i learned that dozens of ppl i loved + respected + trusted were also willing to engage in the basest form of misogyny if the woman Seemed Crazy Enough. there was a horrifying 2ish weeks on this website + much longer irl where i genuinely felt unsafe voicing my discomfort as i relived something eerily reminiscent of the aftermath of my own assaults playing out on screen, commented on by true crime youtubers like it was a red sox game.

it happens time + time again with every new allegation + it's truly the most agonizing + exhausting part of being a survivor. i am begging you all to consider that survivors are watching you engage with this stuff like theater + it erodes our trust in all of you + compounds our grief.

Unwell hours

Akane is super tough and resilient even with the mess that her childhood was, it's mentioned/implied that she's so good at running and climbing because she had to escape people who wanted to hurt her, she took care of all her younger siblings when the adults didn't, and the people who had power over her abused it again and again. She definitely has a "nobody's gonna look out for me but ME", attitude even though she's also protective of others (mayhaps a bit of a "I'm gonna be what I needed 10 years ago" mood there?)

And then Nekomaru is like uh hi I love u and I want you to be your best self and if that means throwing my life away three times so be it I just want you to stay alive. Okay bye *dies*

And she DOES make it through the whole thing (also with the help of others!) and idk I just think he'd b so proud even when he meets her as her malnourished much-less-buff self because hot damn can this lady land on her feet through ANYTHING.

saying that his face, one modeled after the actual real human guy who plays him, is weird? the fact that his eyes are too dark for y'all? his face is too round, he's too "baby-faced" to be taken seriously? that he isn't messy enough for you? that last one especially—can examine why you need a villain to have gaunt features and messy hair to be scary? and that's the subtle shit. I'm not even talking about the people who said his tattoos made him look like a "thug" or the people who outright say he needs to look more like an addict (which, now that I have brought it up—what is someone with a substance addiction supposed to look like to y'all?)

you don't have to like the reboot Makarov. but some of y'all need to reckon with your own biases.
