i know they underutilized the frankenstein aspect in the movie but it really does feel like the creature was perfectly created for lisa regardless. from what we saw, he spent his whole life lonely; dead parents, isolating social life, failed romantic prospects, the whole shebang, but he never gets to do anything about it because he dies, suddenly and unstoppably. until he’s suddenly alive again and the whole world is different but there’s this girl who tended to his grave when nobody else would have given him that respect, who’s experiencing the same things he did who actually has the chance to get back at the people who didn’t care for her, one tiny bit of familiarity to him… of course he’s going to kill for her just to see her happy.

He accepts things in breathless gasps, cold sweat tracing his spine, wide eyed and gripping his shirt in a frenzy.

He accepts love like a prayer, reverent and beautiful. Yes, yes, yes, let me see. Let me see all of you. Let me know that I am yours and you are mine. He loves with all his heart, gives his liking out scarcely. It eats him from inside out, the way obsession and possessiveness work. It’s a finniky thing, something soap always had trouble with. One day he could be in complete safety, knowing that he is loved, and he will love more. Others, he sobs in despair for all those who will never love again, for the love that he will receive that will never be enough, not enough, and too much. Two sides of his brain thread their fingers through his mind, grab on his hair and yank. It forces him to bear his throat, open and exposed, as if to say see? I will be vulnerable. Bite on me. Bite down. In hopes of the other trusting him enough to sink their canines into tainted blood.

He accepts joy with excitement, as if an addict returning into the safe embrace of its drug. A childish response, he guesses, but anyone would find themselves yearning to be happy as well. The highs are high, and the lows are real low. He knows when to accept joy on its own, pure form, and not think about anything else. It’s something sacred to him, precious and fragile as glass. But he knows no one needs his excitement. No one needs his explosive emotions and no one needs him. That’s okay. Soap has spent his entire life accepting that fact.

In the meantime, Johnny will wrap his hands around himself in a pathetic attempt at self-comfort, and repeats a mantra in his head. Less is more. Less is more. Less is more.

personally i don’t have an opinion of either ship. obviously ship what you want, i really couldn’t give a shit less-but how come people are so pressed on people shipping cherry and ponyboy romantically because cherry is sixteen going on seventeen and pony has been fourteen for a month but no one bats an eye at people shipping johnny, who would canonically be almost sixteen and a half, with ponyboy who’s been fourteen for a month? it honestly doesn’t make sense.

And the lighting… hes caught between the red and blue light… between trusting an and saving kohane… between trying to step in and stop her from being hurt or letting it run it’s course… or perhaps he’s looking away bc he knows it’s the right thing to do to let them handle it themselves but it still hurts and he WANTS to step in bc he can’t stand seeing his friends hurting but he won’t let himself bc he knows it’s not his place and it’ll prevent what needs to be done from happening…

the fact that hori couldn’t even give us a lov panel in the final chapter kills me sooooo bad. no mention of touya or toga, 2 and a half panels for tomura compress and spinners book. after everything how can you do your main villains so baddd like they’re literally half of your manga, you dedicated a whole arc for them wdym they get nothing in the end

thinking about brnine and gucci’s partizan baggage is so fascinating. brnine’s call sign was markup bc they overcharged repairs on gucci’s secret rebel force. gucci sent brnine flowers in prison. brnine’s never spoken love died killing the mother of gucci’s childhood friend that she’s been orbiting her entire life. gucci naming the other factions of the cause in thematic relation to the blue channel. one really gets me… gucci was in fort icebreaker. she saw brnine and valence together; she knew brnine was their fervent campaign manager and valence got them that space ship. did she ever realize what was between them? did she know that the blue channel meant more than just a way to travel and brnine couldn’t have stood for it being renamed? there’s so much to read into here……..

and like, despite the deliciously shippable couples it has, Twinkling Watermelon is not a romcom, it’s a fantasy coming-of-age. the theme is family, the main relationship is between Eun Gyeol and his father and while their respective romantic storylines are crucial, they’re not central.

which is nice, on the one hand, because it offers a slightly different (and beautiful) kind of story, but then because instead of being [main couple] > [second couple] it’s [son and dad] > [son’s gf and mom], it ends up letting down Eun Yoo and Cheong-ah a bit and leaving their resolutions a bit rushed / open ended (you know, like how in other shows you’ll see the second couple standing together at the main characters’ wedding but no actual, solid resolution).

so the final scene of the show is primarily a bonding moment and a resolution for Yichan and Eun Gyeol, and you don’t get much of Cheongchan and a very quick last-moment wrapping up of Euneun (and like. what happened to our girls in the years in between?? we need answers!)
