For a game with central themes such as „every being should have a right to self-determination and autonomy“, „inclusionary communities forms bonds strong enough to protect themselves from forces that seek to prey on it“, „free will, though scary and potentially leading to harmful actions, is something worth defending for every being“, and „the cruelty the universe can spawn can be overcome with the will to continue on and do better for your people“, I find it so disappointing we‘ve had little lore that give psions the spotlight, let alone a narrative that focuses on their struggle to build back their culture and lives after who-knows-how-many-years of servitude.

I feel like the psions are the most underdeveloped in-game species, and when we do get development for them, it’s always in the context of them serving the cabal empire or the Conclave taking on antagonistic roles to sabotage the efforts of the Vanguard. I love the development of the eliksni and how in recent years, the game has really been pushing stories that humanize them, validates their struggles, and gives them hope for the future of their species, I just wish psions got the same courtesy.

Yes, they were freed under Caiatl‘s rule, but that wasn‘t given much narrative emphasis as they either continued to act for the empire or joined the Conclave, neither of which gave them a stronger presence in the story or a character that joins our cast of allies .

What was their servitude like? How much cruelty and discrimination did they face? Were there revolutions and movements for better legal protections? What parts of their culture, besides religion, did they bring with them when they were taken by the empire? Is there still anti-psion sentiments present in Uluran culture? What was their home planet like and do elder psions remember it like Riis-born eliksni remember Riis?

The psions have been influenced by Nezarec/the Witness, have been a part of the cabal empire and it’s turmoils for an extended period of time, posses incredible intelligence and psionic powers (that may have connections to the darkness), have a religious schism that was affected by Nezarec’s disappearance and the empire preventing open practices of their beliefs, and yet they are always treated as an afterthought (usually antagonistic), a one-off character in lore, or given a subservient role.

Psions are so cool and deserve the universe, yet we are given crumbs when we could have meals that accentuate the messages Destiny is trying to craft, such as respecting the right of others to have beliefs and perceptions of their own. Psions feel less like people and more like characters playing side roles to progress smaller story beats. It’s so infuriating and I don’t know if Bungie is just too timid to tackle a story involving slavery, there wasn’t enough time to develop them, or Bungie never intended for them to be more than what they currently are. I have hope we will get something soon though!!!

Been obsessed with Lethal Company so I combined it with Destiny. Iruhn, Keti, Zhau'uark and Zivoks are all forced to work for The Company. Iruhn, being only a 15 year old Psion with no battle experience, is very scared so Keti tries to calm him.

love the little extra info we got about Nezarec, and that in universe confirmation of the questioning of if it's even possible to kill him in anyway that matters

SAME!!!! Fascinating stuff that clears up some of the issues I've had back in the day that didn't make sense to me.

For those that don't know, one of the Lost Ghosts quests from Micah has you going to the Lunar Pyramid which shows this dialogue:

So first, what got me, is the confirmation that Nightmares aren't Nezarec's original power. This bothered me since LF CE because in LF CE, Elsie is shown having a Nightmare appear to her in the Europan Pyramid. This felt like it was telling us that Nightmares are a generalised power of the Darkness, which makes sense since Darkness deals with emotion and memory and the mind and consciousness.

That explains why they could appear in other Pyramids, but also since Plunder and onwards, there was an insistence that Nightmares are some sort of Nezarec's original power. Which, again, didn't make sense to me because of Elsie's Nightmare. Now it's a lot clearer. Nightmares are an untapped power of Darkness and can appear anywhere, but Nezarec also co-opted this power and became famous for using it. This could perhaps have something to do with the fact that he was in charge of the Veil during his disciplehood. And of course, the implication that even after we killed him, he still persists, something also apparent in the raid after he dies and he still speaks to us, promising to be around.

Also from the same quest, some additional stuff about Nezarec and Psions which I am very excited for given the other Psion stuff being mentioned in the other Lost Ghosts quest. But in the Lunar one, we get to hear an old message from the Witness to Nezarec:

Really cool!! The first one (which I didn't catch in my own video so I had to find another which is why the quality is different) is incredible because it appears to be proving a theory that the old Psion faith (Y-goblet faith) was wiped out and replaced by Nezarec's influence through God-Thoughts:

I explained how I worshipped my ancestors and the sacred chalice that cupped their spirits. I admitted that I had put these beliefs before him in my heart. He listened as I told him how the ancient God-Thoughts of my people, the operant overlords who dominated our prehistory by sheer mental penetration, had exterminated my faith for daring to see a spark of the divine in every common person.

It makes sense that this would've been Nezarec's influence, but before this, there was no other confirmation. All of this also happened a very long time ago, in their prehistory. So Nezarec's influence on Psions is very ancient. In a way, since the Psions are still very much under this influence, Nezarec continues on through them as well. Super interested in seeing if they delve deeper into Psion stuff in the future. Some of these details seem to be hinting at it.

I've been thinking about this all week. There are a lot of threads and puzzle pieces floating around in my head, but I can't put them together in a satisfying way.

The most likely scenario I have is this:

The OXA machine is likely derived from Vex influence, like the Device created by Ishtar. That would explain how the Vex have data on it in the first place and why both machines are practically identical. The Vex are pervasive, so it's likely that the Psions have encountered them while they were free, or Otzot used Vex tech when they rebuilt it after its destruction after their enslavement. Using the OXA machine to guide them and the Sol Divisive's research, Otzot seeks to reverse-engineer the mind-melding technology used by the Witness (successful attempt) and Maya (failed attempt) to become a God-Thought, a term used by Psions (or at least a Psion under Caiatl) when referring to powerful psychic leaders. We already know Psions are capable of merging minds and even bodies. Tazaroc, Niruul, and Ozletc did this when they formed Inotam during the Season of the Dawn, using an "ancient technique."

This makes the most sense, but I feel like there are holes that I can't see. Either way, Micah's Ghost missions are pulling loose threads and using them to start weaving a tapestry. I'm excited!

Okay so we have- *I fall down a comically long flight of stairs with my box of ocs as they go everywhere* Sorry, sorry!

Truth be told, I have a LOT of ocs from all the different species and societies of Destiny as I have been into the game for practically two-thirds of my life, more than I can possibly disclose in just one post (especially because I can talk forever about these things!!)

So, I thought it would be fun if I described my many characters and their stories as silly blog/news titles and opening statements! This is only a small handful of my ocs, but if you guys want more or see one idea you’d like to hear more of, I’ll consider posting additional content of them!

Here we go:

Infamous deathsinger-school drop out meets agoraphobic Eliksni captain at Eliksni-Hive bar, requires his and his sardonic, elder dreg‘s protection against her vengeful knight sister.

Small Uluran girl tends to her family farm with her Psion in-house caretaker, finds out the only thing more troubling than a poor harvest is Torobatl politics as her caretaker brings his fragile partner into the household.

Local Last City ghost sees success at the opening of her new therapy café despite not having hands and only employing other guardian-less ghosts.
