of course the show that is fundamentally centered around two sisters and their tragedies becomes centered around men and said sisters are sidelined and their arcs are pushed to the sidelines and all the phenomenal care that went into their characters went down the drain. ​one’s arc is literally “the traumatized / mentally unwell character’s happy ending is committing suicide because they are simply too broken to heal and be happy” trope, and her mental instability is forgotten. the other is reduced to a mere plot device, has no agency of her own, and her trauma and anger is treated like a complete and utter joke for the sake of a shitty ship, and because the writers literally, point blank, were bored with her. it’s so sad because the tragedy of these sisters is so utterly devastating, so encompassing and so intricately woven into the narrative. but make it about two men i suppose?

yes im having conflicting thoughts abt the bear s3 just like everyone else and their mothers and no i dont think that sydcarmy can exist as they are now BUT to be loved is to be known and sydney literally reprinted the tickets with wider margins solely because she noticed and knows that carmy likes to write in them. so. tell me how i’m supposed to jump ship when such a simple moment says so much about how good they can be?????

GOD there’s something so tragic about how all the horrors Ed fleetingly alluded to in s1 were so, so real. They were passive references, even sometimes jokes, when everything was bright and silly and hopeful. But when the lens is shifted everything takes on a new weight.

I mentioned it before but I can’t stop thinking about this line: “these past few weeks have been the most fun I’ve had in ages…years…maybe ever.” Ed meant that with his whole heart!!! His fall is all the harder because he was the highest up he’d literally ever been.

It’s just wild to think of the framing of this show because typically comedy implies that these characters live in a consistently comedic universe but it really is just that one blip in time up until this point. Ed and Stede’s solo stories are inherently tragic and yet when they come together they create a shared comedy universe. The meta use of genre in this show makes me CRAZY

Just realized that yes of course Illario kills Zara because he was at risk of being found out, but also —

What if his contract with her was for her to just kill Lucanis because he wanted First Talon but loved Lucanis too much to kill him himself? So he found means outside of the Crows so no one would know what he was up to. If that meant seducing a blood mage, all right, that’s not even his most awkward conquest, he’ll do it.

But when Illario sees him back he’s furious at Zara for stepping out on terms of the contract

And furious at himself for putting his cousin through something that wasn’t a clean death. Crows kill! They fight wars of succession! Death is a certainty! But this isn’t death, this was a year of mage prison and Illario knows Zara is crazy weird with the blood magic and so he can only imagine what Lucanis went through, I mean, he looks like absolute hell compared to what he likely went in as. But he’s in so deep and Zara offers to help vanish Caterina and tells him about the risen gods to try to get back in his good graces, so he lets her live at first —

But then Illario really sees Spite for the first time and he is livid. She’ll die for that. Not only did she betray a contract but she did that to someone he loved, and now everything Illario has fought for to be First Talon is in jeopardy, and he’s made such a fucking mess of all of it for what? For Lucanis to be twisted into something terrifying? (To be even harder to kill now than he was the first time?) To prove Caterina right that Illario doesn’t have what it takes?
