23rd Feb '24 - [arch] OH RISO my beloved!!!!!! ft. cyberpunk hermitcraft soup group
A cliffhanger!!!! And now I have to wait a month for you to upload the second half?? How will I cope :’’0
For real, it’s so awesome to see your process and the sheer amount of inspiration you take! In particular, I thought ‘Sit on Two Chairs’ and ‘This Was Our Pact’ were particularly yummy.
I think book covers are really hard. You have to sum up a book’s energy in one image, make it stand out and show just enough so people want more. Exploring the narrative through those full pages is really interesting - though this is something you did for fun, it could be a really useful technique for getting to know a narrative. When I’m designing my comic covers, I always do it last - that way I’ve had practice with the visual style and I’m thoroughly familiar with the themes, so I guess spending a bit of time with the characters and narrative in this way helps for standalone book covers too. Of course, it helps if you have the time for that XD
Okay!! Onto what I've been up to!!! [warning this is a beefy post I'm sorry for your poor reading brain]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The past two weeks have been really enjoyable! I’ve been playing a lot with slow world-building, in sketchbooks, google documents, and voice notes to friends. Letting myself really sit with concepts, think about the characters, let them play in my head with no expectations. With this relaxation and lack of pressure, some beautiful narratives and interactions have been developing. I’m starting to need a name for a world/ the story. I’m not quite ready to give them a full introduction to the internet - I know it doesn’t but it feels like there’s some accountability to *produce something* and this slow development is really important for the quality and my skill building. It’s really hard to take on, but we actually don’t have to make the perfect thing now! In fact, it’s impossible. Pressure on ourselves makes it so hard to make something good if we’re always grasping at the final result.  In the meantime, while those characters develop, I have been working hard on my basic skills. I wrote about characterization last post, but this week I focused on setting and colour. I was inspired (once again) by Hermitcraft. I’ve seen some really incredible illustrations of Minecraft builds in the fandom, and it seems like a great exercise.

One of the creators on Hermitcraft, ImpulseSV, created this build in a recent episode. It takes inspiration from the last season of Hermitcraft, where he was part of the ‘soup group’ with two other players, and his current base concept - a cyberpunk city.  I also LOVE his new character design, so I wanted to place him in the scene.

Here are some initial thumbnails I did, trying to figure out the composition. I wasn’t sure of the vibe yet, so I tried some rough thumbnailing, and drawing on an isometric grid and other perspective techniques. I’m going a bit mad for characters at the mo, so I wanted to place some in the scene. I found the angle of the isometric grid steep to place characters comfortably, so decided against that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking back at it, I love the second! But I believe I was struggling with the perspective. I decided on the last one eventually.
Now, I absolutely adore all of the players in the Soup Group, and I am BIG fan of redesigning their notable characteristics to suit different settings. So yes, I decided to put all of the soup group in the image.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PearlescentMoon (left) from my comic and GeminiTay's Hermitcraft Season 10 design [from this thumbnail] (right)
Here's the sketch of the final image. I really enjoyed coming up with cyberpunk versions of them all. I used the impulse design almost exactly, with a few extra interesting details since he's mostly viewed from the back. For PearlescentMoon (middle) I kept her fringe, dark hair and gave her a glowing moon symbol on her top. For GeminiTay, I kept her long ginger hair, antlers (but glowing!) and took inspiration from her new season 10 design - a dark blue jumpsuit to match her dark blue clothes in her new design, and the braids she is often drawn with. I also gave them edgy new hairstyles. And a robot arm. I don't have lore for that.
As usual, I filled each flat colour-to-be with black and lowered the opacity to play with the values. Then I added colours one at a time, aware might be riso printing it. Originally I stuck to trying to make it printable (making the colours out of ones I could make my layering 2-3 colours at different opacities), but as I went on, I decided to drop that and focus on the quality of the image in a digital format alone. I did keep the grayscale version above with all the separate layers in case I needed that if/when I came to riso printing it. Below are the main two digital colour schemes I tried out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I settled on the one on the left, with the blue tones - the foreground characters really pop. I put a few details in Gem's hair, colour variations etc, and cropped it for Instagram. I actually much prefer the cropped version - it sits better in a rule of thirds.
Tumblr media
Now the moment we've all been waiting for :'')
RISO!!!!!!!!!!!
I returned to Cardiff after a couple of months away and was delighted to spend my first day back at The Printhaus, an awesome shared print studio where I have basically made my home. A few of my awesome friends happened to be there, so I spent the day playing around with this image with their help! (please check them out they're very cool - Gavin helped me a lot (we hung out at Thought Bubble, remember? and Rhi gave good crits too!!)
For those who don't know, risograph is basically a shitty photocopier that can only print one colour at a time. However, you can play with gradients and opacities, and layer colours really nicely to combine. I've done a lot of single-colour tonal work with riso but this is my first go really layering.
First, Gavin showed me how to separate the channels in Photoshop, using the flat image uploaded to the 'gram. We copied and pasted these layers in grayscale and added blending modes to each layer to replicate what they might look like when printed.
Tumblr media
With blending modes, the digital mockup looked like this!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This bit goes into technical details for replicating what the print might look like for those who might want it - feel free to skip :)))
I copied and pasted the Cyan, Black and Magenta layers as greyscale (as you can see above)
I made all of the greyscale layers multiply layers since risograph ink is transparent and we wanted to see how it layers. The ink usually comes out a bit lighter than you think, so it's good to bear that in mind. I used a clipping mask over each greyscale layer and a blending mode. WHEN YOU PRINT, PRINT IN GREYSCALE, NOT COLOUR.
Here's how I split the colours from CMYK to the riso colours, their hex codes and the blending mode I used to replicate the colours:
Cyan - Mint [HEX#82D8D5] Screen Magenta - Fluorescent Pink [HEX#FF48B0] Screen Black - Blue [HEX#0078BF] Overlay Yellow - scrapped for colour scheme purposes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blue, Mint and Florencent Pink layers in greyscale in Procreate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Riso printed Mint and Florescent Pink layers on separate paper, followed by the two layered together.
We always start with the lighter colour inks first, because sometimes the rollers can pick up the ink and cause extra marks where you don't want them. The first two colours came out great!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time we printed the blue, it came out very dark (left, first image). I have had this issue before - my last book, Winter Wellbeing, came out much darker than I wanted. Now I realise that the blue ink is super sensitive. All the 'white space' that is covered by a low-opacity blue on the left is only 2%, and yet it has come out pretty strong. We tried printing it on one of the misaligned images just to see, but it took all of the brightness out of the neon soup sign at the top of the image (second image). So I changed the values and pushed them way lighter, so it just pushed the values of the darker bits slightly, and brightened some of the lineart (right, first image)
Tumblr media
And this is the final riso printed version!! I'm so so happy with how this came out. It's so different from the original digital version, and I actually love that.
I didn't create new colours in the way that I intended to - I wanted to play with overlaying purposefully to create specific colours eg. orange for the hair etc. But!!! I'm really happy with how it came out. That will have to be a project for next time.
Also, many copies are slightly misaligned, so in future I think I'd do flat layers for the colours a more blobby style with the linework on one layer only so there's less of a chance for obvious misalignment. design for the riso, rather than riso the design.
Overall though, this feels like a super cool step up and a milestone for me. Super happy with how it came out!! And I'm excited to play with colour some more. Can't wait to see the rest of the Lionheart brothers! Enjoy your weekend :)))

Lucky One
Pete Davidson x Reader
Tumblr media
Word count: 2k
Warnings: Swearing, mention of needles, slight angst, drug use
A/N: This is my first Pete fic but I think I will definitely be writing more. Please let me know what you think!
I sat in bed, joint in one hand, lighter in the other. I’d been staring at the wall for the past half hour or so, drowning in my thoughts, forgetting the joint I’d been fiddling with was there to be smoked.
I was thinking about everything and nothing all at once. Have I taken my antidepressant? What do they do with the bagel holes? You’re gonna be alone forever. Don’t forget your earring is behind the back left leg of the desk. New thoughts beginning before the last one could end. I was exhausted yet I hadn’t done anything to warrant feeling so drained. I’d only left my bed to piss.
“Hey you home?” I glanced over at my door, reality setting back in, before realizing how messy my bed was; sketchbook and pencils scattered everywhere, weed crumbs and ash from not paying attention to what I was doing and empty monster cans. I kicked as much as I could off the end of the bed before putting the long forgotten joint to my lips and sparking it. The door slowly opened, Pete standing in the doorway holding a bag and a coffee.
“Whatcha doing in bed B?” he asked climbing into the bed handing me the coffee. I took a toke and thanked him while passing him the joint.
“I just don’t feel like moving. I feel like shit, my brain won’t stop for just a second. I just want everything to stop.” My voice breaking as I began to fight back tears. He blew smoke into the air, putting his arm around my shoulder, pulling me into his side, handing me the joint.
“Breathe B, you’re gonna be okay. I know that sounds like bullshit but I’m here to help you through it.” I took a take and wiped a stray tear from my eye. “It’s always been me and you hasn’t it, that’s not gonna stop now. Did you take your antidepressant today?”
“I can’t remember,” I squeaked, letting the tears win the battle. Pete put his other arm around my chest and squeezed tight, resting his hand on the back of my head and rubbing his thumb.
He would whisper little pick me-ups every few minutes while I cried. “At least you didn’t walk straight into a street light like I did.” I looked up to see him pointing to a small bruise on his forehead. “I saw a woman carrying a dog in a baby sling thing and then boom! Street Light.” I giggled before taking a deep breath and wiping my tears with my sleeves.
“I guess you could say she threw you off your rhythm.” He rolled his eyes and pushed my head playfully before chuckling.
We’d been friends practically our whole lives, yet it was rare for us to talk about deep shit. Not because we didn’t care but we were good at talking each others minds off all the bullshit.
“Movie, smoke, munch? I brought gushers and twizzlers.”
“Only if I get to pick.”
“Obviously, you always pick.” I scoffed and sat up, rolling my eyes.
“Bullshit, we constantly watching The Mule.”
“Not my fault you can’t appreciate a masterpiece,” he said as he grabbed my rolling tray from the end of the bed and I began flicking through Netflix for something to watch.
“Your hair looks nice by the way,” he mumbled, eyes focused on rolling the joint. I glanced over at my reflection in the mirror, I looked as if I’d just climbed out of the hedge. I smiled and thanked him, deciding to put on Knocked Up.
Pete told me what he’d been up to all week and who the guests were gonna be while we watched the film. I made him a twizzler ring and he attempted to make me a bracelet but he couldn’t work out how to get the knot to stay tight.” After a couple more joints I sat up on my knees and faced him.
“Could... I maybe colour in your tattoos?” I asked, placing my hand on his leg to stay balanced, realizing how high I was after not moving for so long.
“Yeah of course, which one first?” I smiled and pointed to the unicorn on his arm and leant off the end of the bed to grab my pens, Pete grabbing hold of my foot as I almost fell off. After I’d finished the unicorn I moved onto the direwolf underneath. Pete was flicking through the pages of my sketchbook as I added icy blue to the eyes.
“Y’know,” he started, passing me a joint, “I reckon you could be a tattoo artist. You could even practice on me.” I stopped and looked at him a bit taken back.
“I’ve never thought about it before.”
“Maybe you should.”
Once I finished the direwolf I looked up to see Pete had dozed off, I smiled and pulled a blanket over him, moving the sketchbook off his lap. I rolled a joint and glanced at the open drawing of a group of clouds I’d been working on but hadn’t yet worked out what should accompany them.
I thought about what Pete said and picked up the sketchbook and a pencil. I smoked while drawing Frank the bunny’s head from Donnie Darko. It was my favourite film and Pete had watched it with me countless times.
After an hour or so I finished the outline and most of the infill with different shades of blue. I felt Pete roll over and put his arm across my lap. I looked down to see him, eyes half open, observing my drawing.
“That’s amazing.” His voice gruff and low.
“Thank you,” I said passing him a monster from my bedside table. He sat up partially and took a sip before handing it back to me. “Good nap?” He nodded and laid back down into my side.
“You should put that on me,” He kicked his leg out from under the blanket and pointed to the side of his thigh. “Here would be perfect.”
“If you’d like.” He sat up again and gently tore the sketch out of the book.
“Come on then.” I frowned and tilted my head slightly. “There’s a guy that could do this now, you could get one too?”
I stared at him in a bit of shock, not expecting him to actually want one of my pieces on his body. I thought he was saying it just to be nice. Also as I’d never considered getting a tattoo before. Not because I didn’t like them but more because I was nervous; I wasn’t great with needles and if tattoo’s would suit me.
“You up for it?”
“What if I look awful with one?” I blurted, Pete’s smile morphed into confusion.
“Why would you look awful?” You always look great.” I could feel my cheeks getting warm and I couldn’t help but ever so slightly smile. “Plus I think you’d look hot with one,” he mumbled handing me the sketchbook, open to a small drawing of a sheep I’d done high while watching Shaun the Sheep.
“It’s small, if you want it to be hidden then it’s easy.” I looked down at the doodle and thought about it for a moment.
“Fuck it lets go.”
I sat on a chair next to Pete watching as the tattoo artist, Jon, carefully traced over the light purple outline in dark blue ink. I began adding to my sheep. A few clouds in the background, similar to the ones on Pete’s.
“What you doing?” I handed him the paper, glancing over at his leg, in awe at how it was turning out. I looked back at Pete who was smiling at the drawing. I held out the pencil to him, when he didn’t notice I poked his arm with it.
“Ow, dick,” he said pouting and rubbing his arm. “What am I meant to do with this?”
“Add something to it, you got a piece of me,” I pointed to his leg. “Your turn.”
“I can’t draw like you and-”
“And I don’t care. Draw.”
While Pete drew, not phased at all by the needle going in and out of his leg, I chatted with Jon, asking him question about how he became a tattoo artist and what it’s like. I was slowly becoming more interested the more I watched him work. Once he was done he turned to me.
“You ready?” he asked, I nodded nervously and Pete passed him the design. Pete swapped places with me after taking a look at it in the floor length mirror. I decided to get it on my arm as I decided I wanted to always be able to see it now Pete had added to it. I told them I didn’t want to see it until it was finished, wanting Pete’s addition to be a surprise. I looked over at Pete, nerves starting to kick in a little.
“Have I ever told you I’m not brilliant with needles?” He chuckled and took my hand in his.
“Yep,” I winced as the needle hit my skin. “Like the time you gave blood because you thought that nurse was cute and threw up all over him before fainting.” I chuckled before biting the inside of my cheek and gripped his hand tight. “You’re good, just keep your eyes this way,”
Pete kept chatting with me and rubbing his thumb on the back of my hand, keeping me distracted from the pain.
“Should I be nervous with what you drew? It’s just clicked how much trust I’ve given you.” He pursed his lips, holding back either as smile or a laugh. “Pete...”
“Nah nah nah, it’s not that bad, but you said to add a bit of me. Trust me you’ll love it.” I raised my eyebrows before gripping his hand again, feeling a muscle in my arm unintentionally spasm.
“You’re good, it happens sometimes, we’re almost done here.”
After ten more minutes it was all done and he was wiping it up. It was aching it a little but I was really excited to see it.
“You ready to see it?” I nodded and looked at my arm to see the best tattoo I could imagine. The clouds were a beautiful combination of greys and whites, my sheep now with a spliff in its mouth and a second, slightly wonky looking, sheep with a spliff also in its mouth and sunglasses on. It kind of looked like a child drew the second sheep but I loved it even more for that.
“I put our initials at the bottom so we don’t forget who is who.” I giggled looking at his scruffy handwriting underneath. “So... what do you think?”
“I fucking love it!” I said wrapping my arms around him hugging him as tight as I could. “Thank you Pete.” I pressed a kiss to his cheek and let Jon wrap my arm up in cling film.
We grabbed some Taco Bell on the way home, I was designated DJ and he driver. I was, questionably, rapping along to Colson and Corpse’s new song while Pete laughed at me. He slipped his hand into mine, giving it a small squeeze and continued driving and started rapping along as if that was a normal for us to hold hands. I smiled and gave his a squeeze back even though I was a bit shocked. Shocked but yet it felt normal.
“You can roll the next one, my arm aches,” I said flopping onto my bed.
“Is that gonna be your excuse for the next week?”
“Did it work?” I looked up to see him shaking his head and chuckling as he picked up the rolling tray.
“You’re lucky you’re cute.” I smiled and winked as it sat up.
“You’re lucky too, you get to look at this cute face all the time.” Pete leant forward and took my hand, pulling me into his lap.
“What would you say, if I asked you out... to dinner or something?” I wrapped my arms around his neck and furrowed my eyebrows.
“What like a date?” His smile and confidence drained from his face immediately and I had to force myself to hold back a laugh.
“It doesn’t have to be no, I just- aw fuck.” I started pissing myself laughing, holding onto him tight to keep my balance.
“Yes I’d love to go on a date, if you hurry up and roll that joint, I teased winking at him, swinging myself off his lap. “I’ll even put on The Mule yeah?”
“I’m definitely the lucky one.”

Tomorrow Hill chapter 2 part two
They arrived at the mall’s parking lot, time to do what they came here for, back to school shopping. Hunter was afraid of this, afraid of doing his tics in public and just genuinely anxious about the whole thing as well.
The two of them walked into the mall looking for school supplies. Hunter is hoping that his foster parent will allow him to get more art supplies and a new sketchbook. Then he saw something that stole his breath almost instantly.
It was a guy hazel eyes and hair dyed emerald green and a beauty mark under his left eye. Standing next him were two girls one who looked like she could be his twin, maybe they were identical twins and one with lavender hair she probably dyed it as well. Either way that guy was really eye catching Hunter couldn’t stop looking at the other boy maybe it was better for them not to know each other. Hunter felt a blush creeping on his face when the other boy laughed, that laugh was just ear candy to Hunter.
Bump took notice that he didn’t have Hunter’s attention anymore he was about to ask Hunter if found something he until he saw who he was looking at. Edric Blight, one of the three Blight siblings. Bump saw the look in Hunter’s eyes it was basically love at first sight so he decided to throw this love struck child a bone.
“You like him?”
“Huh, like who?”
“Him right there, do you want to talk to him?”
He nodded. But he was confused guys are supposed to like girls……right?
“Then do it you need practice for when you get to school anyways.”
Hunter took a few deep breath’s and started making his way towards the boy he was already feeling like he’s going to have an anxiety attack.
Edric was just scrolling through his phone when he looked to the right and saw someone standing next to him. Bleach blonde hair and an undercut extending to the back of his head leaving the bit of hair at the top left, ruby red eyes that were so beautiful that Edric had to do a double take, pale skin he did have a bit of color but other than that he was mostly pale, and a scar that went from his jawline to a bit of his cheek Edric wondered what could’ve happened to have the boy standing next to him receive that scar.
Hunter’s body suddenly lunged forward, he felt like he was going to fall over had it not been for the emerald haired boy catching him.
“You okay?”
“I’m pop just fine. I’m used to it click actually.”
That made no sense to Edric but then again he could ask Amity about this interaction she was planning on becoming a neurologist.
“Ok.”
Edric walked away leaving to ask his little sister about the interaction but Edric had admit in his mind that boy was kinda cute not the body jerking, to Edric it looked kinda painful but Edric did know that the blonde couldn’t control it, aside from that he was cute.
Hunter was standing there frozen in place then walked back to his foster dad.
“How’d it go?”
“I messed up, I think he hates me.”
“Hey no worries you’ll have another chance.”
“Yeah maybe, anyways do I have art classes on my schedule?”
“Uhh hold on let me check. You do have art on there, do you want to pick up some art supplies and a sketchbook for that next?”
“Yes I do want to do that.”
“Alright that’s our next stop.”
Edric finally caught up with Emira and Amity in the clothing section when Amity’s eyes caught something. A purple hoodie with cat ears on the hood. Amity gasped.
“This is perfect for Luz, favorite color, cat ears, hold on is it soft?”
She felt the texture of the hoodie seeing if it was soft like Luz liked it knowing that her girlfriend had issues with certain textures on some clothes especially hoodies.
“It is. I’m getting this for her and giving it to her tomorrow, she’s going to love it.”
Emira chimed in.
“Oh yeah, I’m sure she’s going to love it mittens.”
Emira saw Edric making his way towards them.
“There you are! What took you so long?”
“Sorry Em, just met someone.”
Amity’s interest was peaked.
“Oh ho and who was this someone?”
“I didn’t catch his name but actually I wanted to ask you about him mittens.”
“Okay go for it what’s the question.”
“Actually never mind.”
Amity just shrugged as she headed towards the register to pay for the stuff they got.
“So you’re just going to leave us hanging?”
“Yes I am.”
“Dude that is such a dick move.”
“I know Em.”
“Well I’ve already payed for the stuff we need.”
“Nice one mittens.”
Hunter saw that boy was about to leave, and knew he didn’t want to lose him so without even a second thought he started speed walking towards the boy clearly on auto drive.
Edric was five inches from the exit when he suddenly felt a tap on his shoulder. It was that boy.
Hunter extended his hand (maybe if you suppress your tics then he’ll be your friend at least) surprisingly the other boy took his hand and shook it.
“Hey.”
“H-hi.”
Hunter was already nervous about this he didn’t even know what to say.
“I wanted to ask you something.”
“Alright what is it?”
“Back there your body just kinda pushed you forward and it looked like you couldn’t control it what did you mean by you were used to it?”
This is what Hunter was afraid of.
“Yeah sorry about that. That was just….one of my tics.”
“Tics?”
“Y-yeah I have click Tourette’s.”
Edric had seen Amity doing research on it so he had a basic understanding of it. Hunter felt like he had to continue the silence was deafening.
“It’s a neurological condition that causes-”
“I know what it is it’s just I’ve never met someone that has it.”
“O-oh your pop okay with that.”
“Why would I not be.”
“R-right.”
“Give me your phone for a bit.”
“Why?”
“You’ll see. Oh yeah what’s your name?”
“H-hunter, and yours?”
“Edric nice to meet you Hunter.”
“Nice to throat clear meet you too hiccup Edric.”
Edric began to type his number into Hunter’s contacts, then Hunter spoke pretty quickly.
“I mean if you want to hang out tomorrow that’s fine but I’d understand if you didn’t wa-”
“I’d like that. So tomorrow it is?”
Hunter was at a loss of words this drop dead gorgeous guy was accepting his proposal to hang out. He didn’t even know what to do.
“Yes pop tomorrow it is.”
“Cool see ya.”
Edric gave Hunter his phone back then winked at him as he walked away which caused Hunter’s face to turn bright pink. Hunter was new to this the only other friend he had was his foster sibling Skara other than her he didn’t have any other friends.
Maybe this won’t be so bad after all.
Now was the difficult part asking his foster father if he could hang out with him. Hunter was still shell shocked over the interaction that he forgot about why he was there in the first place.
“There you are kid. You ready to go home.”
“I want to tch ask you something?”
“What is it.”
“Remember that guy from the mall?”
“Yes I do.”
“Well grunt he and I have made pop plans to hang out cough tomorrow, is it ok if I go to his place?”
“Of course it’s okay.”
“Thank you.”
“Anytime kid, now then let’s head back home.”

Jealousy pt. 3 | Bo x GN! Reader x Vincent
Here it is! Part 3! Now to just decide who reader ends up with. Hmmm...
Pt. 1 | Pt. 2
Over the few days that followed your date with Bo, the twin had become increasingly touchy with you. It was becoming a common occurrence for him to press kisses to the top of your head when you walked past, rest his hand on your lower back, or pull you against his side on the couch. Gladly you leaned into every little touch, never noticing the pointed looks Bo would shoot Vincent whenever he was around. However you did notice that you were seeing Vincent less and less. You thought it was because he was busy at first but it had been a while since anyone came into town now.
Bo was at the station today and Vincent was still nowhere to be seen, leaving you alone in the house. You’d watched a movie, cleaned the kitchen, and patched some holes in the old walls but the day always crawled along when you were alone. When noon rolled around you decided to pay Vincent a visit. You fixed him something easy for him to eat for lunch before wrapping up the plate. You chose to take the main road through town on your way to the museum as opposed to going through the tunnels. You loved to stroll through town and admire the brothers’ work, especially when the sun was high in the sky making everything look vibrant and cheery. For just a moment you could pretend that you were a normal person living in a normal town. When you arrived on the steps of the museum you took one more look around before slipping inside. From where you stood you could hear Vincent’s music float up from between the floorboards, gentle and airy. Your lips curled up in a small smile and you took your time to weave through the exhibits, stopping to look at some of your favorite pieces and new ones. You guessed Vincent had been busy, while you didn’t notice any new figures there were more paintings and bits of furniture that hadn’t been there the last time. You paused at a portrait you thought was particularly beautiful. It featured a woman veiled in white, not quite like a bride but angelic. You tilted your head and your fingers itched to reach out and touch it but you held back. Finally you were jarred from your thoughts at the sound of footsteps coming up the hidden stairway in the next room. You turned your head to the door and waited for Vincent to appear. When he did he had another canvas cradled gently in his large hands. He started when he noticed you and fumbled with the piece but quickly regained his composure. “Sorry, Vin. Didn’t mean to scare you.” You gave him a shy smile and held up the plate. “I brought you lunch.”
Vincent had set down his newest creation and the two of you were now sitting on a Victorian style fainting couch he had recently fabricated, your knee just barely brushing his. The newest painting he brought up was very similar to the one you’d been admiring earlier and you motioned towards them. “They’re beautiful Vincent. You’re so talented.” You turned to smile at him, but Vincent wasn’t looking at you. His eye was trained firmly on the plate he was holding in his lap. You turned your whole body towards him and placed a hand on Vincent’s knee, making him jerk away. You yanked your hand back before looking up at him, confused. Sure Vincent was skittish at the best of times but he’d been acting so strange lately. He signed a quick, ‘Sorry, I need to get back to work’  before getting up to retreat back down there he’d come from. You frowned and looked at the painting he’d left abandoned where it sat. Something about it felt a bit familiar but you couldn’t quite place it.
That night when you sat at the dinner table across from Bo Vincent was still nowhere to be seen. You sat with your chin in your palm, pushing the food around your plate too lost in thought to eat. Bo’s hand slid across the table and he coaxed your’s from your chin into his own. “Somethin’ bothering ya sugar?” You gave him a half hearted smile and shrugged. “I don’t know. Do you think Vincent has been acting weird?” Bo scoffed a bit. “He’s probably just busy. He’ll come around.” Your lips twisted into a frown. “No, I don’t think that’s it... Today I went to bring him lunch and-” “Why?” He cut in, making you pause. “Huh?” Bo set his fork down and now he was frowning too. “Why did ya go and bring him lunch?” Your brows draw together and you  shake your head. “I-I don’t know. I just hadn’t seen him in a while. I thought it’d be nice.” Suddenly you were nervous. All the sweetness Bo had shown you was absent now as he pushed away from the table and stood. His chair toppled to the ground as he grabbed his plate and tossed it into the sink, food still on it. “Vincent doesn’t need you to be nice to him. He’s fine.” Slowly you stood and moved across the room to place your hands on Bo’s shoulders, rubbing soothingly. You could see how they relaxed at your touch but the underlying tenseness was still there. “Bo...” He took a deep breath and his fingers, which were gripping the edge of the sink, flexed. You gently pushed on his shoulder, making him turn towards you. “What’s going on in your head?” You combed your hands though Bo’s hair before wrapping your arms around his neck. Instinctively his own hands came to your waist, holding you tightly. “Don’t worry about it okay? And don’t worry none about Vincent. He’s just...” He bobbed his head, trying to find what he wanted to say. “Throwing a damn tantrum.” Your eyebrows shot up. Vincent was never one for outbursts, not even when visitors entered town. He was always calm, calculated. Though you supposed if he were to throw a tantrum as Bo put it this would be the way he’d go about it. “Now why would he be doing that?” He snorted and shook his head. “Because he’s not gettin’ what he wants.” You really hated it when Bo was cryptic, and it happened much more frequently than you’d expect with someone so brash. Finally he kissed your forehead and pulled away. “Just don’t worry okay? He’ll get over it. He’s just gotta.” With that Bo playfully smacked your ass. “How about you go on and relax. I got the dishes.” You weren’t ready to let this go quite yet, but you knew better than to push Bo on a subject he didn’t wanna speak about. So you relented. Besides, you weren’t eager to fish his uneaten food out of the sink anyway.
That night as you laid in bed your thoughts lingered on Vincent. The way he’d jumped away from your touch, like your fingertips scalded him, it made your chest clench uncomfortably. You knew Bo wan’t going to tell you what was up. So you’d just have to find out yourself. Quiet as a mouse you tiptoed out of your room, eyeing Bo’s closed door just across the hall. From outside you could just barely hear his gentle snores, signaling that he was in a deep sleep. You slipped down the stairs and made a beeline for the hidden staircase that would bring you down into the tunnels. When you arrived at the door of Vincent’s workshop you lingered outside, listening to the calming melody of Vivaldi maybe? You weren’t as familiar with classical artists as Vincent. You weren’t sure what you were going to say but you’d already made up your mind. Finally, you knocked softly, so softly you thought he didn’t hear you. You almost turned around and went right back to bed when the door opened an inch. You gave Vincent a shy smile and he opened the door wider. He eyed your face before signing, ‘Y/n, what’s wrong?’ You chuckled and rubbed your cheek. “That obvious huh?” Vincent tilted his head at you before opening the door wider and ushering you into his workspace. Inside it was broiling hot and the molten wax cast an orange glow over everything. Vincent pulled up a comfortable looking chair for you, patting it. You sat down and watched as Vincent moved to lean against his worktable, keeping a physical distance from you.  Anxiously you twiddled your thumbs. “Vincent I’ve been noticing that you’re acting... Well you’re just not around. And I’m just a little worried.” You looked up to watch Vincent. His shoulders hunched over and he seemed to want to look anywhere but at you. Now that you were thinking about it Vincent never avoided your gaze. If he wasn’t staring right back into your eyes while you spoke he was always sitting right in your line of sight, like he wanted you to see him. Now he looked like he wished he could disappear completely. “A-And Bo said that I should just, leave you alone and not bother you. And I don’t want to. Bother you that is. So I’m sorry if I am. I’m just... Worried... Like I said.” You wanted to kick yourself. You really should have figured out what you wanted to say and now you were just rambling on like a moron. Finally Vincent uncrossed hsi arms and lifted his hands. ‘What else did Bo say?’  You bit your lip, Vincent new his brother too well. “He, uh, he thinks you’re just... Upset. And he wouldn’t tell me why.” You phrased it as delicately as possible. Vincent nodded at that seeming to understand something that you just weren’t quite getting at yet. Slowly he came to kneel in frint of you and you smiled just a little. ‘I’m not upset with you. You know that right?’ You only gave a small shrug in response. Vincent exhaled through his nose before standing and crossing the room. He came to stop at his drawing desk, gathering up a sketchbook he flipped though the pages thoughtfully before closing it. He seemed to think for a moment before sighing again. Slowly he walked back over to you. He seemed to be dreading what was going to happen and he looked at you like he was trying to memorize every little detail. As if you were going to disappear. Vincent pulled up his own chair and sat down across from you this time. His fingers flexed around the notebook, similar to how Bo’s flexed when he was anxious. Finally he held the book out to you. You took it from him with care and waited until he nodded before you flipped it open to the first page. Your own image stared back up at you and for a moment you were awestruck. The attention to detail was amazing. As you slowly turned through the pages you could feel Vincent tensing. Until finally you found a familiar sketch. It was one of the new paintings. But now you can see the details underneath the veil he layered over them. It was your own face. Finally you closed the book and met Vincent’s eye. Everything clicked together in your head now and your heart ached for Vincent. “You made me look so... Beautiful.” ‘It’s not hard,’ his hands gestured. You smiled softly before leaning in to hug Vincent tightly. He hesitated for only a moment before pulling you in, practically crushing you in his embrace. You knew Vincent didn’t just fear rejection, he expected it. And Even though he hid it under ego and bravado Bo was exactly the same. You knew you needed to work something out soon but for now you just smoothed your hand over Vincent’s back and let him hold you until he was ready to let go.

Calm After the Storm Pt.2
And So it Begins
I’m actually excited for this? like I’m so nervous, but here we go! here's roughly 4047 words that ive written and agonized over for you Maribat lovers!
please let me know what you guys think!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marinette Cheng meets Richard (Dick) Grayson at the start of the tour of Wayne Enterprises. She’s outside, leaning against the tall form of Chloe Bourgeois, her best friend who had shot up like a damn weed in the past year, and trying her best to stay awake. While everyone else in the class had gotten to adjust to the time zone change, Marinette and Madame Bustier had gone over to the Martha Wayne Foundation building to settle the scheduling and award intricacies. She had also seen a photo of her biological paternal grandparents for the first time, which had been nice.
But today. Today was tiring and it wasn’t even 8:30 yet. It was cold, which isn't helping her attempts at staying awake, even though she had on a newer, thicker outfit, bundled up tight to ward off the cold that was seeping into her bones and irritating her side. Damn Ladybug Effects
Marinette was trying her hardest to leech the warmth from Chloe while the two waited for Lila ‘Oh, my ankle hurts, I must have twisted it!’ Rossi to limp her way off the bus. The rest of the class and Madame Bustier were all behind the liar. Which meant Marinette was in the cold, and THAT was commonly known as a bad idea at this point. Chloe was huffing as she kept an arm wrapped around Marinette’s looking ready to murder Lila. Listening to the Italian girls lies was a staple for their lives at this point, and Marinette couldn't help a sarcastic,
“And so it begins.”
Chloe snorted at that, wrapping her arm around her tiny friend’s shoulders, rubbing her back, before the blonde snarled at another shiver from Marinette, and just dragged the poor girl inside to wait.
Getting inside is a blessing, and as the warmth hits Marinette, she lifts her face away from where it was squished against Chloe’s arm to keep her nose warm.
Almost immediately, Marinette is digging through her bag for her small sketchbook to start jotting down ideas from the lobby alone. Chloe, on the other hand, starts fishing out the NDA’s the class had signed that morning from Marinette’s bag, and begins flipping through them to make sure that everyone’s was accounted for. The two girls settle into the couches by the entrance waiting for the rest of the class.
After a couple minutes, Lila walks through the door, (wow, her ankle is already better!), and smiles around at her surroundings, looking as if she just walked into a loved home rather than a building she’s never been to. Her eyes light up as she smirks, before turning to her loyal followers friends, and though Chloe and Marinette can’t hear what she’s saying, they can imagine.
Madame Bustier frowns at the two girls on the seats to the side as she approaches the front desk, but is quickly distracted by the secretary as the two begin discussing the tour, and its itinerary. Lila and her group have navigated to the other side of the lobby, away from Marinette and her friends, thankfully, but are talking loudly, interrupting people as they enter the building. From the corner of her eye, Marinette can practically see Adrien frowning in hers and Chloe's direction, can practically feel his disapproval.
Just as she is finishing shading in a particularly pretty flower in a planter, one of the elevators to her right dings. A rather tall man steps out, straightening his tie, a clipboard tucked under his arm. He looks to be roughly 6’2 and is dressed in a white button down tucked into plain black slacks, with a nice pair of black shoes. He glances over at their loud wayward class before spotting Madame Bustier and heading over to the secretaries desk to join her. Marinette nudged her friend, who looked up from the NDA’s, adjusting the Miraculous on her head as she looked up.
“Looks like the tour is starting soon,” the bluenette is already standing, slipping her coat off to drape over her bag. Chloe eyes their classmates, as if debating whether or not they actually would be starting soon and if it was worth standing up, before sighing and giving in, getting to her feet.
“Then let’s go give Madame Bustier her paperwork, she seems a bit frazzled about it missing.” and indeed she did. Their red headed teacher was shifting through her bag at a frantic rate, clearly worried about something. Marinette shook her head. Madame Bustier had asked Marinette to collect the files for her, she should remember that her class representative had them. The teacher had been foisting a lot of responsibility on Marinette this trip. Already, Chloe had to step in and help her unpack her bags after Madame Bustier had sent Marinette to sort out the rooms of the hotel, and then dragged her to the MWF Building as soon as the small class rep had handed out the room keys to everyone else, and had helped with the NDA’s earlier that morning.
Marinette took the file folder from Chloe as they walked over and she waited patiently beside her panicking teacher for a moment, before clearing her throat to catch Madame Bustier’s attention, holding out the folder for her to take.
“Oh, Marinette, thank you, I thought I had these with me!” Madame Bustier then spun around, handing over the folder, without checking inside, to the gentleman who had to be their tour guide. “Here you are Mr. Grayson, all the NDA’s, as requested! I must have left them on the table this morning!” she gave a charming smile before turning again, and hurrying over to the rest of her class to get everyone else's attention, leaving Chloe and Marinette with the tour guide.
As their teachers' voice rang out over her classmates, Marinette and Chloe shared a look between them. Chloe sighed as she followed after their teacher, and Marinette turned to the man beside her.
“Bonjour, my name is Marinette Cheng, are you the tour guide for today Monsieur…?” she smiled as she held out her hand which was quickly enveloped by his much bigger one,
“Richard Grayson Ms. Cheng! A pleasure to meet you, you’re the one who wrote the winning essay for the Martha Wayne Foundation right? Me and my family all read it! And yes, I am the tour guide today, we’re just waiting on your visitor badges, and then we’ll be on our way!” Richard’s smile was nearly overwhelming, the amount of words coming from him more so, but that wasn’t what had caused Marinette to freeze.
She hadn’t looked at any photos of the Wayne family since she heard about Cassandra Cain-Wayne’s adoption. Sure, she knew what they looked like, but that had been several years ago. Marinette hadn’t anticipated meeting her oldest adopted sibling so soon.
It was weird to talk with her brother Richard, without him knowing they were technically siblings. She shook the feelings off quickly, (years of an emotional terrorist did wonders for emotional control apparently) and allowed her smile to grow wider.
“Thank you Mr. Grayson! I hadn’t had much to do at the time, and the MWF scholarship to GU was worth the late nights! I’m flattered that you and your family liked it so much.” a box full of visitor IDs and lanyards were placed in front of them, and Marinette shot the receptionist, Ms. Keanes, a quick “Thank you!” before carrying them over to the class.
Chloe looked about ready for a nap as she watched over her class, all of them whispering to each other as Madame Bustier went over rules for the Tour. The red head seemed to be willfully ignorant of her class not listening as she spoke, and just smiled at Mr. Grayson as he and Marinette approached. Marinette shook her head as she began handing out the IDs, quick to snag hers and Chloe’s first, slipping both around her neck for the time being as Mr. Grayson began speaking.
She had to admit, her brother Richard seemed determined to give her class the best tour he could. He had notes and anecdotes on that clipboard of his, and he knew how to use them to get attention. Unfortunately, he just wasn’t as captivating as Lila, who had begun to spin another tale of ‘Oh, yes, I spent so much time in Gotham when i was younger that I’m practically a Gothamite! There’s this amazing restaurant nearby, we should go there for dinner tonight!’
By the time lunch rolled around and Richard had gotten the class into the cafeteria, he seemed to have lost most of his determination. Most of the class pushed past him, not even listening to his explanation about the Cafeteria, and his shoulders slumped as he stared after them. Marinette, who had been taking notes about as much as she could, felt a bit guilty for how he was being treated. Chloe had pulled out her tablet about a half hour into the tour and began working on MDC Business, and while Marinette knew Chloe had been listening, she had been focused on her work.
“Mr. Grayson? I’m sorry for my class’s behavior, they’re just, excited, to be in Gotham and haven’t quite gotten it out of their systems yet.” Marinette reached out to tap him on the arm as she spoke, gently prodding him until he looked at her. She gave him what she hoped was a reassuring smile.
“I enjoyed the tour, there’s so much to learn, and I can’t wait to go to other floors after lunch! I’ve already jotted down several ideas in my sketchbook, so thank you!”
Richard smiled at her in thanks, eyes brightening a bit as he nodded at her, before fishing out his phone and turning away.
Marinette quickly linked arms with Chloe before walking into the large room, as she only needed space for her and Chloe, who had saved whatever proposal she had been going over as they searched. Once they found a good spot they went and joined the line for food. A few tables down from their spot, the class, who were back to loudly talking to each other and squealing about Lila’s ‘childhood sweetheart, I might be able to see him again! he took me to that restaurant I mentioned earlier as a date actually!’, and were all ignoring the looks that WE employee’s were shooting at them. Madame Bustier all but collapsed on a table for herself, and put in earbuds as she ate.
Marinette shook her head as she and Chloe walked past, getting into line for the small buffet style lunch available. Other employee’s were also entering the room, and while they did have an hour and half lunch, Marinette didn't want to wait too long and have to eat quickly. By the time the girls got their food of choice and sat down at the table they had spotted earlier, the line was quite long, and the rest of the class were at the end of it. They had a long wait.
Lunch passed in quiet, and for the most part she and Chloe just worked. Marinette on a commission Uncle Jagged had requested, one inspired by his hometown, and Chloe back to whatever she had been working on before. It was only interrupted by Mr. Richard Grayson asking to sit with them. He was picking at his food more than eating it, staring with furrowed brows at Madame Bustier and the rowdy class (It was an hour in and most of them had only just gotten food)
“Madame Bustier is of the opinion that they’ll settle down after today.” Her voice seemed to almost startle Richard, but he just turned to look at her, more confused as he asked,
“What? But, your class-”
“Bustier is next to useless when it comes to interventions. She probably won’t do anything about their behavior for a couple more days.” Chloe didn’t even look up from her work as she interrupted Richard, her scorn clear.
“Chloe”
“What, M? It’s true and you know it! She’s treating this more like a vacation than a class trip.” This time the blonde glances over at the teacher, who still had her earbuds in. “She’s not even watching her class! She hasn’t looked up from her Audio Book since she sat down, Mari. I know we're all legal adults and graduated at this point, but it's still a school trip, not a celebration over Hawkmoth’s defeat! We're in one of the most dangerous cities in America, the least she could do is check that all her students are behaving.”
Before Marinette could respond, Richard cleared his throat, drawing their attention to him before he asking,
“Who’s Hawkmoth? What do you mean ‘celebrate his defeat?’ That makes him sound like a supervillain.”
Marinette and Chloe look at each other, before Marinette turns back to her brother the tour guide.
“That’s because he was Mr. Grayson. How didn't you know about him? He terrorized Paris for four years? Mayura, his accomplice helped for roughly three”
Marinette knew it was due to a country wide media blackout and the French Government working with Paris’s governing body to suppress the news further to not put a damper on tourism, but surely something must have gotten out? After the JLE had decided to leave Hawkmoth to Ladybug and her team, she had figured they would at least issue a warning. Chloe chimes in with a tired voice, shoulders lowered and eyes blank,
“He would take control of someone and transform them into a monster using their own negative emotion, and in return, all they had to do was get the Ladybug’s earrings and the Black Cat’s ring. He did it by sending an Akuma, which is a corrupted butterfly, by the way, and they would possess an Item on the victim’s person. Ladybug and Chat Noir, and the others, had to locate and destroy the akumatized object so that Ladybug could purify it. There were normally 4 or 5 of them a week, though they got more frequent and powerful the month he was caught.”
“But, Thats- We would have known about it!” Richard seemed horrified, “The amount of damage that would have happened? Surely something would have gotten out!”
Marinette shook her head. “That's the thing Mr. Grayson, part of Ladybug’s powers, was that she could summon something she needed for the fight. When it was over, she could use her ‘Lucky Charm’ as it's called, to reset all the damage done by the akuma. The buildings got fixed, injuries healed, and many people who were killed were brought back.” She shared a small smile with Chloe,
“Hawkmoth was defeated earlier this year, just after school started. The Miracle Court took back his and his accomplices Miraculous, and both were placed into custody. Last I’d heard, Gabriel Agreste, Hawkmoth was given several life sentences, and Nathalie Sanceour, Mayura was in a high security medical facility for the damage her illness had done. The Court is staying active in Paris for the remainder of the year, but after, the JLE has asked them to either step down or leave Europe. They haven’t announced what they're going to do yet after the year is over.”
Before he could question the girls further, looking rather sour at something, Chloe’s phone alarm went off, meaning they had 10 minutes to clean up. Marinette quickly fished her phone out of her bag, and opened up the BugOut blog. Tilting her screen so Richard could see, she explained as best she could about it as Chloe cleaned up the table.
“This is the official Blog that was dedicated to Ladybug and her efforts. There's another one called the Ladyblog, but it's not the best anymore. Ladybug endorsed that blog for it’s professionalism and writing. It’s not active much anymore, but it’s got a good archive of everything, if you’re curious.”
He had opened his mouth to ask more questions, but then he froze. Marinette had flipped to a photo that showed a comparison of the Teams, and his eyes zeroed in on it. One shot of the current Court of Miracles, Ladybug, Testudo, Byakko, and Cheval Joli, one shot from two years ago with Ladybug, Chat Noir, Rena Rogue, Carapace, and Queen Bee, and finally, one shot from the very beginning, of Ladybug and Chat Noir stood awkwardly in frame.
Marinette shook her head,
“Ladybug and Chat Noir were the first, they were somewhere around 13 or 14 when they started.”
Marinette left him after that. She had garbage to sort out and a plate to return. The two girls waited at the same entrance they came in from, seated on the couches by the door, watching as the class got up at 3:00 on the dot, and left their plates stacked on top of the garbage cans like they were in a fast food place, not a famous Enterprises cafeteria. Madame Bustier and Mr. Grayson joined them shortly after, Mr. Grayson rubbing at his forehead as he walked up.
The second half of the Tour seemed to stretch on for a while. Marinette’s side was beginning to go taught, and she could already tell that a massage and some painkillers would be involved in tonight's bedtime routine. She almost regrets leaving Tikki in their hotel room, the little goddess always healed her in little bursts to help with the pain, but Tikki had been just as tired as Marinette this morning, and the cold was affecting the little Ladybug Kwami harder, so she had left Tikki bundled up near the heater for the day. Besides, Chloe had hers with her, and Akuma’s weren’t a thing they had to worry about. Marinette really hadn’t seen the harm in letting Tikki rest for the day.
While Mr. Grayson (Please, Ms. Cheng, just call me Dick, I promise it’s my nickname, and I honestly prefer it) was watching the rest of her class, he had given up trying to keep their attention, and was basically just speaking directly to Chloe and Marinette, both of whom were paying attention now. The Business and Legal areas were something of great interest to the girls, as they were working together to maintain MDC, Chloe with the business side, and Marinette with the creative side/designing. The class behind the two girls, still wrapped in their own little world, completely missed the looks they were still getting from employees as they passed by workstations and offices.
The only time Madame Bustier intervened was when Alya had a particularly loud outburst, all but shouting out a loud “WHAT?? GIRL YOUR DATING DAMI-” before getting cut off by a sharp “Alya!” from the teacher.
But Marinette hadn’t been paying attention to Lila, her side had escalated from tight to aching, and was now rubbing at her side as she walked, her notebook away and her arm linked with Chloe’s as she wrote, trying to focus more on what Dick was saying rather than the pain.
Of course, with how this bit of the tour was going, Dick had noticed. During a particularly ‘exciting’ bit in whatever lie Lila was spewing, he quietly approached the girls.
“Hey, what’s up Marinette, (then in that case, please, call me Marinette “or Mari” Or Mari, thank you Chloe) are you alright?”
It was startling, to be honest. Beyond Chloe, no one really ever noticed when she was in pain. It took her a second to respond.
“Yes, it’s alright, just, an old wound. It gets bad when it’s cold, and I’ve been walking a lot today.”
His worried eyes scanned over her, seeing how tense she was and how her hand didn’t stop doing small circular motions around the left side of her waist, just below her ribs, He was frowning, and his body screamed concern.
“Do you need a break? There’s a break area on this floor.” His voice was soft as he spoke, but, even though she was tired, getting a break or special treatment now would mean dealing with Lila and Alya later, even if would help with the pain.
“I’m alright, besides, there's barely an hour left, and then we're getting on a bus back to the hotel, I’ll be fine,” Marinette smiled, (was this what its like to have a sibling?)
“And I already made her take some of the Advil she carries with her” comes from the tall blonde next to her. Dick looks at them both like her wants to argue, eyes tight, before he nods.
“If you’re sure.”
Apparently, they weren’t taking a bus back to the hotel. Lila had convinced Madame Bustier to cancel the ride, and let them go to a nearby restaurant for dinner. Which meant the class would be walking back after. Marinette closed her eyes, rubbing at her side firmly as she listened to Lila, Chloe beside her, hip jutted out and arms crossed.
“My Damiboo took me there for a dinner date, it’s where he confessed! Oh it was so romantic, I would love to go eat there again!” her simpering was painful, she was even holding her hand to her chest like she was going to faint, but her other arm was entwined around Adrien’s, and her current boyfriend looked more bored than anything as she described her ‘childhood sweetheart’ As usual, the class was eating it up.
“Oh, Lila! That sounds so romantic!” Rose had her head against Juleka’s shoulder, a dopey grin on her face as she imagined the two on a romantic dinner date.
Alya had turned to Nino with a quirked eyebrow and a sly smile, “Why haven’t you done that to me huh?” before turning towards Madame Bustier.
“Please, may we eat there? It’d make Lila so loved, and she says the food is great! Who better to show us the good places than an honorary Gothamite?” Madame Bustier had already been nodding, happy to appease her class.
“Of course we can, It's not a far walk from here at all!” The class excitedly began chatting, but before they could all set out, Chloe finally intervened.
“Madame Bustier, we’re not supposed to eat out on Mondays, shouldn’t we head back to the hotel?” her words were met with silence, and she was quiet a moment, before continuing,
“Besides, Marinette’s side is beginning to hurt, she nee-”
A loud snort comes from Alya, who rolls her eyes. She looks Marinette up and down, scowling before biting out,
“Please, like she needs, anything! I can’t believe you think she was actually hurt! Everyone knows that Marinette's a bully Chloe, she’s just jealous of Lila, and lying for attention.”
It had been 2 years since she and Alya had been friends, but it still hurt when her old best friend said things like that. When Lila had threatened to take all her friends, Marinette hadn’t believed her. But here she was, all her friends gone, and the only reason she had Chloe at all is because they hadn’t been friends until Lila had everyone else on her side. Marinette and Chloe had sat together at the back of the class, and they’re neutral ‘ill watch your stuff if you watch mine’ had eventually become ‘well now I'd die for you.’ It was nice, having a friend in class again.
Lila, never one to miss a chance, hiccupped loudly before wrapping her arms around herself.
“I- I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cause trouble, I jus-just wanted to b-be reminded of my Damiboo! I Haven’t-t see-en him in so long!” By the end of it, she had full blown sobs going, and the class closed ranks around her, comforting her while glaring at Chloe and Marinette. Adrien was frowning at Marinette again, eyes almost furious as he glared, and Madame Bustier just sighed.
“Marinette, please, can’t you see Lila needs this? Can’t you take one of your Advil so that we can help Lila? Remember, All the Marinettes of the world?”
She sighed, closing her eyes and shaking her head, before agreeing. Chloe beside her started to protest again, but stopped when Mari put a hand on her shoulder.
“Alright Madame Bustier.”
“Thank you girls! Alright, Lila!” Madame Bustier clapped her hands a couple times, catching the classes attention,
“We're going to the restaurant!, Lila, why don’t you lead the way? I’m sure it’s lovely!”
Marinette was sure it was going to be hell.

Dual Summoner x The Darkling pt. 23
I decided to write back knowing that I owed it to him and I knew that it wasn't like a lot was going on here. I had to get ready for the Winter Fete so close by but I just didn't want to risk anything. I knew that there was time before the day of the Fete but I just had so much on my mind. So I started to write to him about what I wanted to.
Dear Nico,
I never really thought about how much I smile and maybe my eyes don't match how I feel. I guess being that nine years of secrets has been the burden I have carried. No one knew that I was a Dual Summoner until I didn't have a choice but to be known. General Kirigan gives me my space but I can't fully say that this is all my choice. My teacher is a bit strict but she is the only way I can get these letters to you I believe. I don't know if he or the Grisha who tends to me during the day will intervene. She warns me I might have to go after Morozovas Stag someday but only a skilled tracker could find it. From what you told me you would be the skilled tracker that could find it. So if orders come up to find the Stag, you must come to the little palace and find me.
-Amira
I made sure to put that letter in my journal knowing that Genya could come anytime. As I opened the other letter wondering who it was from I smiled when I recognized the handwriting and I caught the item that fell from the letter. As I read over it knowing it was my father's handwriting.
Dear Amira,
Word spreads fast and now people are already calling you Sankta Amira, I know you don't believe in being a saint. Still,  I had this locket passed down to me when I was old enough and now you have it. Inside is the name of Every Sun Summoner in our family that is alive or dead. I am also aware that Baghra told you of my agreement with her, I never thought Aleksander Morozova would have become the man he is now. Be careful my daughter, if he gets Morozovas stag he could turn this arrangement into something much worse. When the time comes to look for the Stag I will help you find it.
-Love Father
I looked over that name as I knew that I hadn't known the last name of Aleksander till now. I ran that thought through my head about what my last name could be if I did marry him. Not only that he had the same name as the creator of the amplifiers. I knew that there were always going to be risks but I looked at the locket as I opened it seeing the names of everyone and then I noticed at the bottom was my name that was in Father's handwriting.
I'll be careful father when it comes to Aleksander. I just need to get through this and hope the stag is never found. I thought as I started to write to my father.
Dear Father,
Sankta Amira? I think people are just looking for someone to find hope in and a Dual Summoner who can bring the light is just something for them to look at. Most people seem more interested in the light than my tidemaker abilities. I get why with the light being able to tear down the fold but I really don't want to be the one to take it down.  I wanted to be just Amira but that is no longer an option with everything that has happened. It's lonely being here alone, the only one of my kind but I suppose Baghra and Aleksander know that feeling being the last two shadow summoners. Baghra has prepared me well so he can't manipulate me with any of the lies he would give to the other girls. When that day comes for the Stag, we can go look for it together.
-Love Amira
I put those letters away knowing that I had to be sure that they got sent out. I knew that everyone else was blinded by his lies, the names that he was going by and I was the only one awake to see the truth. I took my sketchbook and snuck out of my room going to Baghra's training area making sure no one saw me as I was walking. I wore the Kefta to make sure that I could get there. When I arrived there I knocked on the door to make sure that she knew it was me as she soon opened the door.
"Amira." Baghra said
"I need these sent out." I said as I got in my sketchbook and handed her the letters "Please Baghra."
"Of course but you should be careful of those he's convinced." Baghra said
"Which is why I didn't ask Genya to do this, I don't know how much I can trust her. I know I am drawn to him but every girl is drawn to him in their own way." I said
"I taught you a bit too well to notice things others would not but I had to make sure he could not manipulate you into a slave." Baghra said
"If he would try I would fight back." I said
Baghra let me in for a bit and I relaxed in there knowing that no one knew I snuck out of my room. I wasn't supposed to be out except for preparing for the Fete but who cared. I ended up sketching a bit in my sketchbook as I knew there was nothing better going on. Baghra seemed to be plotting something but I knew that there was a lot going on.
"Thinking of Morozovas stag?" I asked
"We cannot let him obtain that kind of power if it is found." Baghra said
"The only one who could possibly find it would be Nico." I said
Baghra looked at me when I said that and I looked at her knowing she didn't know that I knew a tracker. "The friend I had an argument with, he's a tracker. His group in the first Army says he's the best able to track anything." I said, "I warned him about the stag and come to find me if they find it."
"Well you think five steps ahead of Aleksander, he won't like that." Baghra said
"The Tracker has his loyalties not to him but to the king." I said, "I just know how to convince him to be loyal to me."
"Maybe you are a good match for my son." Baghra said
"I know how to think ahead of him because of you, I am not persuaded like the others. Like Zoya." I said
Zoya disliked me no matter what but I kept my distance from her for good reason, I knew that I had not seen her in two days. I wouldn't have a chance to avoid her tomorrow but that was tomorrow's problem. I would have to get my routine down for the Fete but I knew Aleksander was leaving soon if he hadn't already left.  I finished a sketch then headed out knowing I hadn't really done a lot today but I was going back to my room.
Guess I will just see him when he returns, I knew this was going to happen. I thought
I turned a corner to the west wing of the little palace where my room was near his war room. I was almost there when I saw his doors open and he walked out. I moved quickly before he noticed tossing my sketchbook into my room and closed it seeing him come out. He noticed me as he approached seeing I was standing there.
"Amira." Aleksander said
"Hello, you're leaving for the north again, correct?" I asked
"Yes, some fights come up and I need to go to check on another group of the first army." Aleksander said
"I guess I will see you when you get back." I said
I saw his smirk form as he leaned into me and kissed me, as I returned the kiss knowing every time he did this my heart beat faster. It lasted for a few minutes before he pulled away and placed a hand on my cheek. I could see he had something on his mind as I put my hand over his and closed my eyes with a smile.
"You don't need to worry about the Fete, I'll help with your performance." Aleksander said, "I've been thinking maybe there are others like you out there. A Dual summoner, maybe not with light but the elements of Inferni and Tidemaker."
I opened my eyes hearing his words that there might be others like me out there as I had my doubts when it came to Dual summoners like me. I was one of a kind Dual Summoner being Sun and Tidemaker.
"Only the Saints would know." I said
"Speaking of Saints. Have you heard people are now calling you-" Aleksander started but I cut him off "Sankta Amira." I said
"You've heard about it?" Aleksander said
"I got a letter from my father, he heard about it and mentioned it in his letter." I admitted
"I wish I could take you with me again but I think you're needed here." Aleksander said
"I should do more training with Baghra. Every chance I get with her is better for our chances to destroy the fold." I said
"What about the stag? Your thoughts on an amplifier?" Aleksander said
"I don't want to rely on a myth amplifier that is impossible to find. I need to work harder and get better, you're a walking amplifier so if I struggle you can help me." I said
Aleksander kissed me again from those words and I leaned in kissing him back knowing his ego grew if I relied on him. I just knew how to make this relationship work for the both of us so he hears what he wants to hear that I need him. I knew that there was no way I couldn't tear down the fold without an amplifier someday but I was doing everything to distract him. We pulled away when we heard someone clear their throat and I saw Ivan as I blushed looking away.
"Ivan, is the carriage ready?" Aleksander asked
"Yes, General." Ivan said
"Good." Aleksander said then he looked at me as I looked at him then he looked at Ivan "Have a heartrender tell Marie and Nadia they are to be Amira's guards while she's in the little palace. We can't take any risks with leaving Amira here and not many of our Inferni, Tidemakers, or Squallers would probably care to keep her safety in mind."
Ivan looked curious and then he looked at me as I crossed my arms where he saw the ring on my hand. Unofficially we were considered engaged cause he hadn't properly done the proposal but I wasn't going around yelling about it. Ivan seemed to catch the hint of why it was important I had guards by my side now but I said nothing.
"Right away, General." Ivan said before leaving
"Does this make you happy Amira?" Aleksander asked
"Yes." I said with a smile "I trust Marie and Nadia with my life already. I am glad you think so too."
"Good then I will see you when I return." Aleksander said and then walked away.
Still two steps ahead, Marie and Nadia may listen to you but their loyalty may not entirely be to you. I thought
"Bye." I said before going in my room
A/N: Comment down below should there be other Dual Summoners who are Inferni/Tidemaker or Squaller/Inerni?

Former-royalty current-bard Richard meets nonverbal artist Richard 👀👀👀👀 your choice if you address how the hell this happened or if you just hop right in to the nonsense lmao
//OK, but I am in love with this
All things considered the spell could have gone worse, that said, this was ultimately now how it was supposed to go either. He had meant to make a second version of himself, not summon one. Yet here another version of him stood, all wide blue eyes and confusion. He was holding a pen of some kind and a book, he had clearly been in the middle of something when Richard called him. Which lead him to the matter of how. He had no idea how he did this, or how to undo it for that matter. This second Richard set his things down and put a hand to his mouth and made a strange gesture then waited for an answer. When he didn’t get one he did it again with annoyance lingering in his eyes. “I don’t know what that means, I brought you here on accident.” He replied, “Something went wrong with my spell and now you’re here.” His guest let out an annoyed sigh and set his book on the desk and picked up the pen he had brought with him. After a moment he held it out, and under what looked to be a sketch of Gavin was a sentence. ‘Who are you?’ Was written in a neat script not too unlike his own. “I thought that would be clear.” He remarked, “I’m Richard Nicolas Arkait, I’m you.”
That didn’t go over well because what he got in response was more of that strange hand language. He didn’t understand why this version of him didn’t speak. “Oh he is angry.” Gavin’s voice came from the doorway of the tavern room, “And now that that’s out of the way; why the fuck is there two of you? We talked about you doing magic unsupervised after what happened in Raven’s Hollow.” “Look, I was trying to make a decoy of myself, but something went wrong, and I pulled another me from.... somewhere, and all of my attempts to get him to not be here have not worked.” He sighed. “Do you by any chance know what he’s saying with his... that.” “Yeah.” Gavin replied, “We were taught to sign in Knight’s training.” He crossed his arms, “Care to translate then?” “I mean it would be rude to with out asking first.” Gavin then turned, signed something to this second Richard, then turned back to him, “In no uncertain terms he said you better find a way to send him home by the end of the day because he has plans with “his” Gavin.” “Don’t you lot think I’m trying!” He snapped, “I don’t want him here any more than he wants to be here. But I can’t undo this until I know what’s wrong in the first place.”
By the end of the week having him here was almost natural. Gavin was his voice and there was a natural chemistry with that that had him very curious. Perhaps this Richard’s Gavin was also his voice. Was every Gavin this one encountered inclined to do the same. That being said, the sooner this Richard went home the sooner he would have his Gavin back. He wasn’t jealous, he just didn’t like how close they were getting. On the day that marked a month since the new Richard fell into this world he found the cause of all of this. A sketch he had done fell into the fire he was using to conjure, so he wound up producing an artistic version of himself, or, summoning. If he burnt in with a banishing spell, that should do the trick. All he had to do was break the news to him. “I’ve figured it out.” He said as he walked back into the tavern room, “A drawing fell into my conjuring flame. It brought you here. If I burn it in a banishing spell it should send you home. Are you ready.” “Let me get my things together.” Gavin translated. The new Richard grabbed his sketchbook and tore a page out and gave it to Gavin. Richard bristled but finished drawing the runes. He added a sealing rune to be sure he stayed away. When he was ready the new Richard stepped into the circle and with Gavin’s close supervision he sent him home. He was free at last.

Iida x reader - Iida Tenya’s Imaginary Boyfriend (pt.2)
⚠️warnings - none
Pronouns - male, he/him
Tumblr media
Part one can be found here!
The true ending can be found here! (Pt.3)
——————
“Alright,” Kaitekina flipped open her sketchbook, setting it back down on the easel. “Who’s going to describe something to me?”
Everyone gestured at Iida.
“I apologize once more,” Iida scrunched up his fists in his lap. “I do not wish to-“
“C’mon, Iida!” Uraraka grasped onto the sleeve of Iida’s school blazer. “You’ve been sulking for a month about this ‘(L/n)-kun’ guy! You need some sort of comfort! Or better yet-closure!”
“I am completely fine! In fact, I see him every night, and that is enough for me! Now, I do not wish to be here, and I have nothing to describe!”
Everyone fell silent. Uraraka voice was barely above a whisper. “Every night..?”
Iida sat back down, bowing slightly in apology for yelling. He said nothing. Todoroki looked down, before looking at Iida.
“If you do this one thing, we’ll let you go and we’ll never speak about it again. Just this once and we’ll leave it at that.”
Iida thought for a moment. He absentmindedly picked at the metal frame of his watch with his thumb and forefinger. Just this once couldn’t hurt. How accurate can a drawing be?
“Fine.” Iida visibly relaxed. “Just this once.”
———
“So, are you describing a boy or a girl today?”
Kaitekina’s voice was smooth like butter. Her eyes, once a chocolate brown, delved pink, bright and demanding. It was probably a side effect to her quirk activating.
Iida’s lips turned up into the faintest of smiles. A sheepish one. “I’m describing my boyfriend...”
Uraraka and Midoryia choked back a shocked gasp, while Todoroki simply raised his eyebrows. Nonetheless, they gawked at Iida like he was crazy.
Kaitekina cooed. “D’aww...how long have you two been dating?”
“Almost 5 months now.” Iida seemed more calm than before. You could almost say he was happy finally talking about his baggage. He rubbed his thumb across the glass of his watch discreetly. Kaitekina looked away from her sketch to eye the dull red watch contained under Iida’s blazer.
“What’s that red thing you keep touching under your jacket? Is that a watch?”
Iida sat quiet for a moment, before pulling up his sleeve and raising his arm. There revealed a dirty, cheap red watch, cloudy but functional. He tugged at the strap, watching as it unraveled and tumbled down onto his lap.
“It was something my boyfriend wore everyday. He wore it everyday since the start of the school year. He said he’d always cherish it, so I’m...cherishing it for him.”
“This isn’t the original one he owned though, that one...disappeared. I bought this one to keep with me where ever I go.”
The woman hummed, taking note of something on a sticky note stuck to the edge of her easel. It was most likely details to add or emphasize in the portrait.
“Can you tell me like-the shape of his face?”
“Angelic.”
Iida didn’t say anything else after that. Kaitekina waited for him to go on.
“Oh-forgive me. Round face, and his hair was a (h/c)-ish shade. It was always kept rather short/long.”
“You keep saying ‘was’. Is he no longer with us?”
Iida narrowed his eyes. Uraraka, Midoryia, and Todoroki eagerly awaited his answer, not-so-subtly staring him down. “It’s...it’s difficult to explain. But in simpler terms, he isn’t here with me anymore. Or he never was. I cannot seem to tell anymore.”
Those last parts came out as a whisper. More like he was saying it to himself, rather than to the sketch artist infront of him.
“I’m...sorry.” Kaitekina stopped drawing for a second to offer her condolences. Iida shrugged.
“...I am too.”
“Um-can you describe his eyes for me?”
“It was a bright (e/c)-color.” Iida limply held up his arm, before letting it drop back down on his lap. “They were always kind of squinted, like he was always so carefree. It was one of the things I never understood about him. Beautiful, (e/c) eyes that would stare up at me like I was the world.”
She made a noise of acknowledgement, grabbing (h/c) and (e/c) pastels scattered across her desk. Scribbling down details with her hazey glowing eyes scanning the paper, she looked up again at Iida. “What about his smile-what did it look like when he was smiling?”
“I believe it was his default expression. His lips were on the thinner/thicker side, though he kept telling me he wanted them to be a bit thicker/thinner. And-they were always chapped. I always told him to put on chapstick.” Iida chuckled.
“If you had to choose one thing-and I know it’s hard, but what would you say you miss the most about him?”
Iida fell silent. He stared down at his fingers, halting temporarily. He opened his mouth numerous times to speak, but each time, no words came out.
“His ability to make me smile.”
He said nothing else. Kaitekina inhaled to speak, but let her mouth fall closed, focusing on her drawing once more.
“Can you tell me about him while I finish up?”
Iida nodded. Midoryia, Todoroki, and Uraraka turned towards him, waiting patiently. This was what they were waiting for.
Iida pushed his glasses up with his forefinger. “His name was (L/n)-kun. He went to our school, and actually sat next to me in class-but apparently no one...seemed to remember him. It’s like he disappeared. That, or my delusions delved to the point where I hallucinated a whole five-month relationship with a boy I see every night in my dreams. It’s made me look forward to going to bed. It’s the only thing I want to do these days.”
Iida thought for a moment, before continuing. “He was good friends with these 3 next to me. But they don’t seem to remember him either.”
“It’s alright, though. I’ve grown used to it. I’ll see him again tonight and I can live on with these memories alone.”
A heavy silence filled the small studio. Midoryia contemplated setting a hand on Iidas shoulder, but as he was about to, Kaitekina clasped her hands together.
“So, I believe I’m done. I hope I was able to capture at least a small part of this person you had such an amazing relationship with.” She picked up her sketchbook, walking around her desk towards the 4 kids seated on the couch. “Are you ready to see it?”
Part of Iida didn’t want to look at it. All of his logical beliefs told him people were giving this woman and her quirk too much credit. Besides, how could she possibly know what mountain of complexity (Y/n) held, and capture it into an unworthy piece of fine-tooth paper?
He nodded anyways. She flipped her book around, holding up the displayed page in the sunlight streaming through the window.
“This is what you described to me.”
There stood a charcoal sketch of a beautiful boy, smiling so gently and earnestly. His hand was resting again set his neck and shoulder, a dull red watch strapped tightly to his wrist. There were features Iida swore he never mentioned, like the crease near his left eye, or the dimple that lay just under his cheekbone.
What captured his attention most, was his eyes. It was only pastel, but it shone and demanded attention, even if his eyes were in his usual half-lidded stance. Bright, (e/c), gemstone eyes that Iida fell in love with. Honestly, he could gaze at this picture forever.
This was him. This was his (Y/n).
Uraraka gasped. “Ahhhh! Wow! It looks really good! Ne, is this accura...Iida? You alright..?” Midoryia and Todoroki tore their eyes off the illustration to check out what Uraraka was talking about.
Iida was staring, eyes slightly wide, at the drawing. He couldn’t take his eyes off of it; he didn’t want to. The drawing was more accurate than he’d like to admit. It was as if he was staring at (Y/n) himself.
He didn’t know tears were steaming down his face, until he felt small drops of water pelt down onto his lap. He removed his glasses shakily and wiped his eyes, doing his best not to take his eyes off the sketchbook.
“It’s-“ Iida’s voice cracked along with the seam of his heart. “It’s very accurate, you should be proud of the business you own, Miss.”
———
The stagnant air followed the UA students out of the building. Iida was stiffly walking straight ahead, doing his best not to look at the paper of (Y/n) folded in his pocket.
“Ne, Iida,” Iida hadn’t realized he was walking so far ahead until Uraraka had to jog up to him, followed by Midoryia and Todoroki. He hummed in acknowledgment.
“Do you feel better?”
There were two answers to this question. Yes and slowly but surely, yes. He was feeling better in the sense that he no longer had the urge to cry into his bedsheets, holding the piece of sketchbook paper firmly to his chest. He lost his dignity, and he found it again.
He was also feeling better in the sense that he finally got some sort of closure. Maybe this person isn’t real. And it’s ok. He has some sort of proof of his imaginary ‘friend’ that he can gaze at forever, instead of pitifully checking his wristwatch every 5 minutes, wishing it would go faster just so he wouldn’t accidentally forget how his face looked like.
It wasn’t healthy living day by day, waiting to fall asleep just so he could feel something again. A self imagined kiss on the cheek or just plain rest. He was willing to move on from that. It was time to start the ‘healing’ process. The drip finally stopped.
And he knew that if he got tired, if he was sad, or just needing some assistance, (Y/n) would be there waiting for him with open arms, welcoming him into his imaginary world again.
Though, he wasn’t sure if he really needed that right now.
He loosened the cheap red watch from his wrist, his head suddenly feeling empty and light.
“I’m feeling better. Thank you.”
——————
This is how this story really ends. Though, even I didn’t like it HAHAHA so I made a “true ending”. A sweeter ending without the bitter if u must LMAOO

SuperChat 3- Fake Dating
Masterlist
Adiren through the trapdoor to Marinette’s room open angrily as he climbed the ladder, calling out for Marinette. The woman in question; broke off her kiss with her boyfriend and groaned loudly letting her arms go limp and dropped on him hiding her face in his chest.  Damian looked down at her amused tightening his hold around her waist, before looking over at said girlfriend’s brother. “Hello to you to Adrien. Thank you terribly for interrupting us, it's not like we were enjoying ourselves.” Adrien ignored Damian as he collapsed on Marinette’s chaise.
“Not the time Wayne.” Adrien huffed glaring at the ceiling. “I have a serious problem. Father is trying to force me into dating Lila. He is convinced that I am just confused! He wants me to take her to the Gala next weekend, and I don’t know what to do.” Marinette sighed before sitting up; she kissed Damian softly before climbing off him and her bed.
“We’ll have to think of something, maybe you could go with someone else. Tell him that you’d already asked.” Marinette said sitting down at her vanity and brushing her hair out then fixing her makeup. “No that won’t help much. He’ll just try to force you on dates with her in public so that the media sees.” She said after a moment, Adrien shifted slightly thinking to himself.
“There is something that might work, but you’re going to be upset.” Marinette turned to him, her eyes narrowed, both ignoring Damian’s amused snort. Adrien refused to meet her eyes as he thought about how to word this. “Just hear me out okay, I know it sounds silly but I think it’ll work. What if I go with someone close, but we pretend we’ve been dating for a while in secret.” Marinette groaned, shaking her head glaring at the ceiling.
“Adrien, are you serious? Damian did you hear him?” MArinette questioned, not really expecting an answer.
“Yes Beloved I did, and it just may work.” Damian said a smirk slowly covering his face as he formed a plan.
“See Adrien even-what?” Marinette said, turning to her boyfriend in shock. Adrien looked at him hopefully.
“It could work, and I know the perfect person.” He said smirk confidently in place, amusement in his eyes for having shocked his beloved.
“I’ll bite.” Marinette said after a moment crossing her arms giving him a slight glare. “Who?” Damian’s smirk grew as he let her stare him down, he knew this would work in their favor.
“Jon.” He said, Marinette raised an eyebrow thinking about it while Adrien blushed brightly stuttering out Jon’s name.
“Why Jon?” He asked shyly, causing Damian, who still hadn’t removed his eyes from MArinette, to chuckle. Marinette nodded after a second.
“Oh it could definitely work. I’ll need Jon’s measurements, I’ll have a suit ready for him in no time.” Damian nodded before turning to Adrien eyes softening slightly at the upset kitten look Adrien was sporting.
“You’ll find out why late Adrien. Meanwhile I have to go tell Jon, I WILL see you later Beloved.” He stood up and walked over to Marinette kissing her deeply and causing Adrien to fake gag at the sight. Marinette pulled back with a sigh shaking her head.
“Annoying little brothers, goodbye mon amour.” Marinette moved over to her desk flipping open her sketchbook and began working on Jon’s suit. She smirked when not a second later she received a text from the man in question’s measurements. “Stupid superhearing..” She muttered snorting when she received an emoji with its tongue out.
His father almost combusted when Adrien told him he already had a date. Lila looked ready to scream as she glared at him for daring to not listen. Adrien refused to budge and wouldn’t even acknowledge his father whenever it was brought up. He also avoided Lila as much as possible, to the point where he was missing photoshoots with her, and nothing his father did managed to stop him. Anytime he tried to force Adrien to spend private time with him lila would have unfortunate and embarrassing clothing malfunctions. Though that was all thanks to Plagg, by the time the Gala rolled around it looked as if Lila was going insane. His father finally broke and asked who he was taking. Adrien gained all his confidence before turning to his father. “Jonathan Kent, my boyfriend.” Adrien paused a shy smile covering his face, he really liked calling Jon his boyfriend, but he knew better than to get his hopes up. There was no way Jon would like him like that. Unknown to himself miles away in the States, one Jonathan Kent was currently being teased by both his father and older brother. Over how brightly he blushed when Adrien called him boyfriend. It was safe to say neither boy could wait for the Gala. Jon was determined to ask Adrien to be his actual boyfriend that night. Nerves be damned, Damian was almost never wrong. So if he said Adrien liked him, then Adrien really liked him.
The night of the Gala Jon was at Marinette’s house with her and Damian. Marinette was adjusting his tux for him when she received the text from Adrien.
Kitten- Father is forcing me to give Lila a ride. I’m sorry guys, he used the ‘it’s my limo’ bullshit.
She groaned, rolling her eyes before telling him not to worry about it. “Agreste is forcing us to ride with Lila. Alright Jon remember you two have to act like you’ve been dating for months. When you get in, sit directly next to him, grab his hand and kiss his cheek. Understood.” Jon nodded, smiling brightly placing his hand on her shoulder.
“Don’t worry Marinette, I plan to make this night perfect for him.” Marinette smirked amused at him before shaking her head and glaring at Jon.
“Hurt him and I will show you exactly why I am the Guardian of the Miraculous, understand.” Jon’s eyes widened and he gulped nodding nervously.
“Understood.” He said weakly, causing Damian to laugh as he wrapped his arm around Marinette’s waist, kissing her temple.
“God, I love you.” Marinette smiled sweetly before kissing him.
“I love you too.”
Jon fakes gagging causing Damian to glare and Marinette to sigh, hiding her face in Damian’s neck.
“I hate them. I hate them.” She said causing both to snort, though Jon was the one that burst into laughter. Sabine smiled at the trio in the living room as she walked up the stairs.
“Hate to break this up, but your ride is outside. Oh darling, you look beautiful.” Sabine said, pulling Marinette into a hug. Marinette smiles hugging her back tightly.
“We all know where I get it from, right boys!” Marinette said, turning to the two who nodded.
“It’s definitely from me. I mean look at me, definition of beauty.” Tom said as he kissed the top of Marinette’s head. “Kidding, kidding I’d never hold a flame to my wife, daughter l, and son-in-everything-that-matters beauty.” This caused Sabine, Jon, and Marinette to laugh. Marinette kissed her father’s cheek before taking Damian’s arm, allowing him to lead her out. Jon smiles following after them to the limo, the couple paused allowing Jon to climb into the limo first. His eyes immediately met Adrien’s and neither could hide their smile. He immediately took the seat next to him, ignoring Lila, who glaring at him. Adrien greeted him with a soft hello and Jon took his head kissing Adrien’s knuckles softly.
“Hello, I’ve missed you.” Adrien blushes softly, noting taking his eyes off Jon, much to the amusement of Marinette and Damian. Lila hated that attention was not on her, so she automatically began rattling out lies. Jon simply spared her an unimpressed look before turning back to Adrien. He leaned Jon whispering softly into Adrien’s ear.
“So that’s Lila. Honestly, I’m not impressed.” Adrien laughed softly tilting his head up to whisper back, but his eyes remained on their still locked hands. He squeezed Jon’s hand smiling more when he received a squeeze back in response.
“Five bucks, if you start talking about majoring in Journalism, she will name drop your mother. Only my father knows your name, and he didn’t even make the connection.” He snorted softly leaning against Jon when Lila looked over, glaring at them again. “So you’ve decided on Journalism for sure? That’s amazing Jon.” Jon gave Adrien a mischievous look, one that promised he’d get revenge. Adrien simply smirked back at him, his eyes filled with amusement.”
“Journalism? Really? Well everyone always says, reach for your dreams, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much. Some people just aren’t made out to be a reporter though, maybe you’ll be a lucky one. Like my dear friend Lois! She worked so hard to get her position, and even now she still struggles! I’ve had to help her out occasionally, oh sorry! By Lois I meant my old family friend Lois Lane! Although, if I remember correctly she did get married a few years back, yet never changed her name! Can you believe that? I could never, it would be like slightling my husband’s family name!” Jon tightened his hold on Adrien’s hand while he starred at Lila. It was hard to ignore Marinette and Adrien’s stifled giggles, especially with his super hearing.
“Wow you know Lois Lane? Then you must know her two sons as well?” Jon said, pretending that he was all excited, everyone noticed Lila’s attempt at a subtle smirk.
“Well of course! Jonathan and his younger brother Con are sweethearts! Jonathan is pretty taken with my, but with my standing in the media, we’d simply never work! After all, my fans would tear him apart, and expose all his flaws! You know they do it so often to celebrities, non celebrity partners. I’m surprised Adrien didn’t warn you about it, but I’m sure you’ll be fine!” Jon chuckled turning to Adrien, their eyes meeting.
“Well they can give me their worst, after all I won't ever let Adrien go unless he himself tells me to.” Jon brought his hand up again kissing it, their eyes not breaking. “You see I am quite taken with him. He holds my heart and hopefully he’ll allow me to hold his and cherish it forever.” Adrien’s eyes widened at the comment, a blush taking over his cheeks when he noticed the determination in Jon’s eyes.
“I’d be happy to let you hold it forever.” He replied before leaning forward and kissing Jon softly. It was unspoken but both knew. Both knew that there was something more than fake dating going on.”
“How sweet.” Lila gritted out her glare increasing ten fold, though both couples were happy because Lila didn’t utter a single word for the rest of the ride. No, she spent the entire time texting Gabriel about getting his son back in line. Together they developed a plan to completely humiliate the nobody, that thought he could interact with high society. When they arrived at the Gala Lila schooled her expression into that of a bubbly and lively woman. Marinette and Damian were the first ones out of the limo, causing the camera’s to flash wildly. As they walked down the carpet they paused at certain points allowing pictures to be taken. However when Adrien and Jon stepped out, the flashes were accompanied by the yells of his fans. Adiren laughed, waving to them before turning to Jon with a bright smile. Jon returned the smile before offering his arm to Adrien who gladly took it. No one noticed Lila when she stepped out, not until she was glaring and the four others. In her eyes they stole her spotlight. They paused for pictures as well but unlike Marinette and Damian, they stopped so Adrien could sign autographs. During one of those times Wayhem popped up asking for a picture.
“Wayhem!” Adrien exclaimed leaning over the divider and hugging his friend. “A picture, with you of course!” They posed together smiling brightly as Jon watched them. “Oh! Jon, this is my friend and fan Wayhem. Wayhem this is my boyfriend Jon!” Wayhem’s eyes widened before he smiled brightly holding his hand out to Jon. He took the hand shaking it, as he said hello.
“Congratulations Adrien! Jon is one lucky man!” He teased causing Adrien to laugh, and Jon to nod looking at Adrien.
“Yes I am very lucky.” Jon kissed Adrien’s temple and soon after they said goodbye to Wayhem, heading into the Gala. Jon spotted his dad and mom right away, both were standing with Bruce and Selina, talking happily. They surveyed the room together, noting where their friends and family were in the room. Marinette and Damian had joined Dick and Kori, his brother was with Tim, his boyfriend. JAson stood by Barabra’s side, the two of them clearly making fun of others together, though their poker faces didn’t waver. Chloe was with her mother chatting happily about business deals, Kagami and Luka were standing with Jagged, Penny, and Tomoe. They finally spotted Gabriel and Nathalie standing together talking with others. Adrien was quick to turn his back on them facing Jon completely.
“Ready to face my father, Jon?” Adrien squeezed his hand gently staring up into his eyes. Jon smiled and leaned down kissing Adrien softly.
“He could never scare me away. After all, some day he’ll be my father-in-law, even if I don’t like the man” He rested his forehead against Adrien’s smiling gently. “I’d follow you to hell and back, I’ll be by your side for as long as you’ll have me.” Adrien stared at him shocked for a while before smiling and shaking his head.
“Honestly Jon, jumping the gun a little here. We’re fake dating right now, so until you ask me, we are still friends.” Adrien said teasingly before leaning up and kissing Jon’s cheek. “Now, let's go show my father that I am definitely not confused, and will never be interested in Lila.”

Nothing in Particular Update #2
It’s the Nothing and Particular and Everything update part two: the electric booglaloo. This one is long, so strap in.
It’s been a while since I wrote an update for this story. To be honest, this one gave me a lot of stress, but here I am! Writing this story feels like it is going very slow. I keep telling myself I’ve made a lot of progress (which is true, I have) but for some reason it doesn’t feel like I have? This is likely just my own insecurity. To be frank, I can’t believe I’m still writing this story. If you had told me in February that I’d still be writing this when the weather got warm, I would have laughed.
I am SO excited that I will finally be able to focus on writing now that I’m out of school. I’m afraid to speak the rough deadline that I’ve given myself for this story (the end of August-early September) but now that I’ve spoken it into existence, I hope I can finish! (I hope I can stop watching dumb videogame playthroughs and listening to The Magnus Archives and get something done)
Here is a link to the story introduction and previous update!
TAGLIST (ask to be +/-); @wannabeauthorzofija @a-completely-normal-writer @baguettethebooklover @corkytheguar @writeherewaiting
STORY CHANGES/THOUGHTS/IDEAS:
Here is a big one: I’ve been trying to write this story for myself. I started writing Ray’s story from a place that was personal to me, but I feel like, as that part of myself has begun to heal, I’ve started to think about what a reader would want out of the story. I’m realizing that this is my story so it has to be what I want. Drafts are drafts for a reason, so I’m going to try to get better at letting myself explore what is fun to me.
I always thought I was a discovery writer (I still sort of think I am) but as I’ve finished small sections of the story, I am finding that it’s very helpful to do a rough outline of scenes in upcoming chapters. (I also recommend turning to this if something doesn’t work and you need to retrace your steps!) Just helps me feel more organized!
Jude’s character has got to be one of the most difficult personalities I’ve ever written. Putting her beside Ray just makes it harder. Where Ray is secretive and keeps to herself, Jude is ready to unpack her entire life’s story to anyone. I find that I really have to slow down when writing their interactions. I know this is going to be nowhere near perfect in the first draft, but I think it is a main contributor to my slow writing.
I really like this little narrative I’ve created in the background of the main plot with Ray and Lonan. I love writing these scenes because it’s a way for me to use Lonan when he’s not actively with Ray and to show why Ray is predetermined about things at certain points. Also I love their friendship so much <3
CONGRATULATIONS TO ME on starting to read again because I forgot how much of a help reading other people’s stories can be when you’re struggling with your own oml
I now have a set timeline for the story! Takes place ~4-5 months.
I did that thing where you write a letter from the characters’ perspectives and that was kind of fun
Also just for fun I thought I’d add in that I spent an hour and a half last week filling up a page in my sketchbook with diagrams of the plot. It feels good to be a mad scientist
EXCERPTS UNDER THE CUT!
*At this point, I’m only sharing writing that I am really proud of in order not to spoil the story! This is because I am unsure whether I want to publish this story someday. With that said, that does NOT give you permission to steal my ideas!
CHAPTER: NIGHT CRIES
#1
Tumblr media
In the last week of summer, I did everything I could to avoid post-vacation blues. I rode my bike along the gravel roads with no destination, wore my dark sunglasses to people-watch, and fed salami to the minnows that floated on the cusps of boulders. Usually, I sat still for so long that my elbows turned a deep shade of red and the blood in my toes buzzed.
New pockets seemed to open up in Point Blink every day. And with them, came new people. Most of them were older – a middle aged woman who caked her lipstick on, an uncle estranged from his brother, a couple who had miscarried. I hadn’t forgotten about the kids at Mothouse. It was impossible not to think about them. It wasn’t just that I’d never seen them before.
#2
Tumblr media
The girl’s limp cigarette bled a trail of smoke that seeped into my Vans. My shirt folded like skin over my bed post. Haunted the room – foiled my mauve sheets and teased my locks. Swept the curtains apart and heated the oak floor. Beams of moonlight leapt to my bookcases; highlighted the posters from various podcasts and bands that I listened to. Wind whistled when I was too still. She forced me to look outside, onto the dark cul-de-sac lit by the reflections of forming rain puddles. No matter whether I sat at my desk or burrowed under my sheets, I felt out of place. She made my bedroom louder. She made my bedroom quieter.
I decided it would probably be best if I never saw her again.
To be honest, I don’t remember much about writing this chapter because it was over a month ago (sorry) but I’m still quite happy with the prose! This comes in after Ray sees Jude for the first time at Mothouse. Based on a first impression, decides that she might want be friends with Jude.
CHAPTER: SORRY
#1
Tumblr media
If you spend any long amount of time with someone, you’ll become a thief to their behaviors. If I stared long enough, trees began to replace all of the people we’d ever seen. Oaks had roots that serpentined the ground like children splashing in the bay, pines with needles like spindly old hands, maples with hollows like watchful eyes – all things Lonan had taught me to observe.
CHAPTER: GHOSTS
Tumblr media
Then there was the sea – violent and knowing as it romped within bays and alcoves. She had eaten me many times before, both my father and Lonan too. Gulped them as if they were shining plastic wrappings left behind after a meal. I spited her for inviting me once again. I reached up again to grapple with the next rung. It twisted and offered a low whistle.
In these two chapters, Ray is on a photography trip with her class. This is the first time she’s been on this annual trip without Lonan. She left that morning with a goal of being independent and learning to get on with one of the only people she has felt close to. I realize now that the Ghost excerpt sort of sounds like her dad and Lonan have drowned?? Which was not my intention??
CHAPTER: A DIVINE INTERVENTION
#1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Do you believe in ghosts?” A raspy voice teased from behind me. Cigarette smoke tickled the words, like they were stuck together with jelly inside of her. The question wasn’t particularly calming, but it strengthened my grip on reality. As if the foiled leaves, bark, and dandelions had sprung from the ground and begun to float, they came crashing back down.
I was made of stone.
“I’m not a ghost,” Jude said. “If I was, a ladder would be a pretty counteractive way to outrun me. I could just float up there and haunt you.”
“Maybe you’re a ghost,” she asked, her voice distant.
I shifted my grasp up and down the sides of the ladder. “What?”
“Don’t you believe in ghosts?”
I was reading back some of Ray and Jude’s conversation and there are so many snippets of dialogue that make me laugh because I totally forgot I wrote them... but UGhhH I don’t know if I want to share them because I don’t know whether or not I want to try and publish the story someday. Speaking of that, it’s sort of because it’s so personal to me? I don’t know (this is for future me to pursue) Honestly though, reading these back has made me really happy :)
#2
Tumblr media
I wanted to shake her by the shoulders. She acted as though Point Blink could breathe – as though corpses in the cemetery might pull the grass away like dead skin, neighbors would draw blades, and blood-salt would stain her clothes rather than that from the sea. “Trust me, they’ll forgive you. But, I’m just saying, most people around here don’t care nearly as much as you think so. Most of them are way older anyways, so they’re tired of us.”
“Is that you complimenting yourself?” Jude asked.
“Not intentionally,” I said, “but I will take it.”
She laughed. “You shouldn’t be so nice to strangers.”
I wasn’t trying to be. I just didn’t think I wanted her to dislike me.
#3
Tumblr media
“I don’t think it’s a bad thing or a good thing,” Jude said. “Being good gets you tucked into a thousand different memories. Being good makes you live a lifetime.”
I almost laughed, but then I wondered what I was to her now. “I don’t talk to lots of people.”
“Sometimes there aren’t many people to talk to. But I thought you would have loads of friends.”
I wasn’t sure what to say to that. “I thought you would too.”
Alarm like grief lit her eyes, but she laughed. I did too.
“You hardly know me,” she said quietly.
Then the girls explore some old newspapers and letters in a fire tower! Spooky fun!
CHAPTER: YOU LET THIS HAPPEN
Tumblr media
This isn’t a major spoiler as it’s literally in the blurb I wrote, but Ray and Jude are caught (targeted..??)  in a fire. Ray is brought back to a field where she is questioned.
CHAPTER: NOTHING HAPPENS
Tumblr media
He was quiet for several moments while he painted a picture with what little details I had given him, then said, “It’s unfair. I think that’s why it hurts.”
“Because we almost got hurt?”
“No. Because it came true.”
His gentle, ragged voice made me think I could tell him anything. Sometimes, I think that, even then, he knew I left something out.
Ray talks to Lonan after the fire... She’s being a bit dishonest about what actually happened.
CHAPTER: WHY NOT
Tumblr media
I remember how the barest amount of red light glared across Lonan’s entire scalp and washed his boyish curls magenta from the roots out. When Jude leaned back on the counter, she melded into the darkness.
This chapter is just part of the narrative that I created with Ray and Lonan’s friendship. There isn’t much I want to spoil from it, but I liked this paragraph!
CHAPTER: INEVITABLE
Tumblr media
“We didn’t do anything,” I said.
“Someone did. Why won’t you believe me?”
“I think I would remember whether or not someone was there with us,” I said, “even if we didn’t have the picture.”
This was untrue. I hung lots of photos in my room. A long time would pass before I went to a restaurant again, or a specific coven on one of the beaches, or an outfit that I wore, and I would look into one of my pictures and remember it, and then I would be quite angry with myself that I had almost forgotten that thing forever.
“I don’t think you understand what I mean,” Jude said. I didn’t like the way she’d lowered her voice. She sounded different every time I saw her. She reached out her arm so our photos were side by side and our fingers were almost touching. “I don’t think you want to.”
Ray finds herself alone in the school’s dark room with Jude. Based on the contents of one of her photos, she tries to convince Ray that there is more to the fire than what meets the eye.
CHAPTER: (this one is untitled)
Tumblr media
I didn’t mind that he followed me everywhere. Even when he was quiet, I didn’t find it strange to be around him. We sat silently through films and went on walks. Once, he had fallen asleep while watching The Iron Giant in my bed. I didn’t know if I should wake him up once it ended. I tried not to stare at him. He’d rolled onto his side and bundled himself in one of my blankets covered in stars up to his shoulders so only his small face poked out like a baby owl’s. His soft breath messed his dirty gold coils. They were at their longest. Except for the ebbing light from a candle on my desk, my house was asleep – Lonan needed to go home.
For the first time, I wondered if anyone cared where he was.
Another small part of the little friendship narrative! (This really is the part of the story where I get nostalgic for my childhood, isn’t it) Ray starts to discover more about Lonan’s home life in this part of the story, but there’s not much that I think I want to reveal about that for now.
CHAPTER: THE CRUX OF IT
Tumblr media
Why did I feel so paranoid? I found myself staring out the window, into the film of blue that the late sun shown onto the grass and trying to remember what summer felt like.
My main problem was that I didn’t know how to talk to Jude unless it was about Sugarfell. I ran from the hush of cigarette smoke behind closing doors and heard her loud voice in conversations. Even though there might have still been a part of me that wanted to be friends with her, I didn’t have much to base that feeling off of. I could have spent hours clicking the little pieces of her that I had together, but the crux of it was that I would never know Jude unless I forced myself to.
For some reason, that really scared me.
I spent all week trying to think of what to say to her. By Friday afternoon, I still had nothing.
I left off writing with Ray actively avoiding Jude’s little investigation into the arsonist. Ray doesn’t want to be involved in this because she feels that it will throw her sense of normalcy off course. She really just wants to learn how to adapt to a life without her best friend. (It doesn’t help that she’s got fresh trauma)
What will Ray decide? I don’t know. We shall see. (just kidding I know)
Sorry this update was longer! I think I would like to start updating more often than once a month just because they would be shorter and those of you reading this won’t forget what happened in the last update. There are thousands and thousands of words that didn’t show up in this update because - like I said - I don’t know whether I want to publish this story ever?? I’ll probably talk more about this in a separate update.
Thank you so much to those of you who read about my story! I hope you enjoy it!
:)
p.s. btw I now have a myWriteClub account! You can check it out here and stalk me as I tragically fail my writing goals!

No More Second Chances: Chapter 7
So yep, i think this is the third chapter this month. imma tired, I haven’t slept properly since Sunday. its almost three k words so yeah
The Master: Master List
No More Second Chances: Master List
----------------------------------
Apparently, school had to go on April break for her to get any sleep. Clark and Lois decided that the first half of the week would be spent in Smallville and she couldn’t remember the second place, it’s not even her fault though, people like to talk to her before she can drink coffee.
“Another grandchild! Is this one a clone like Connor?” Aunt Martha asks, pulling everyone into hugs.
“No, Ma, this is the exchange student that we’ve been taking in for the last month and a half, I told you about her,” Clark says, hugging his mom.
“Oh thank god, I don't know how I would react if someone cloned you again, because it was either she is a clone or another one of Bruce’s, but no matter, you’ll be staying Kara’s room,” Martha says, leading the bluenette inside the homey-farm house.
It was fifteen minutes later after she was done getting comfortable that Aunt Martha appears in the doorway. She smiles while saying, “I hope everything is good, I don't know if you want to, but there’s plenty of ingredients if you want to bake. Clark told me that you grew up in a bakery.”
“I would love to, I haven’t baked since before I left home,” Marinette smiles, putting down her sketchbook.
“What are you working on?” Martha asks, taking a seat on Marinette’s bed beside her.
“Oh, these are designs I had to put off because of the move and family issues. Uncle Jagged was understanding but because it’s spring break, I would love to be able to get them to him as soon as possible,” Marinette explains.
“That’s cool, do  you want to be a designer when you’re older?”
“Yeah, I guess that’s what I get for growing up in the fashion center of the world,” Marinette shrugs.”
“Well, honey, if there’s anything that you need let me know, I’m going to get out of your hair,” Martha says.
“You’ll never be a bother,” Marinette giggles.
“Dinner will be at five,” Martha says, closing the door behind her. Marinette sighs and goes back to sketching. Uncle Jagged needed his outfits soon so if she designed everything the first half of the week, she can go to the closest fabric store wherever they’re staying the rest of the week. A couple of hours later, though it felt like minutes, she was being called down for dinner where she met Jon’s, Uncle Jonathan.
“Welcome to the family, Marinette,” he greets with a pleasant smile. “You’re not a clone, right?”
“See what I mean! You could definitely be a clone!” Martha points out.
“I guess I could be, but thankfully I’m not,” Marinette giggles.
“But she’s a hero,” Jon smiles, pulling her into a side hug.
“Seriously Jon, why are you calling me out?” Marinette asks, rubbing her temples.
“I’m not!” Jon says, feigning innocence. “She’s a Parisian hero!”
“Or as Dick put it, a magic girl,” Marinette sighs.
“Oh we know, we know everything,” Martha chuckles.
“But you didn’t know that I am not a clone?”
“It gets blurry when it comes to specific things,” Jonathan shrugs. “Jon, you ready to help me tomorrow?”
“Of course! I’ve missed working,” Jon responds with a smile.
“Can I help?”
“You can do whatever you want,” Jonathan says. The rest of the dinner was spent talking about plans and getting to know each other. After dinner, Marinette called Adrien and talked to him for a bit while sketching. They had to hang up not too long after the starting call because it was late for him.
The time flew by, she helped out in the field Uncle Jon, explored the town with Jon, designed for Uncle Jagged, and baked with Aunt Martha. She had a lot of fun and completely forgot about her Parisian problems. Aunt Martha and Marinette shared baking recipes and Aunt Martha sent a recipe to her baking buddy.
On Wednesday, Clark and Lois cam to pick Jon and Marinette up so they could bring them to the other place where they would be staying for the rest of the week. Marinette, again, didn’t hear nor did she care where they were going next. She put in her headphones and sketched the last outfit that Jagged had requested. Marinette asked Lois and Clark to stop on the way to their destination, which they did. She loved the fabric she picked out and couldn’t wait to start sewing. She barely registered when the car stopped, she grabbed her stuff and Jon led her wherever they were staying. People talked around her but she couldn’t hear them, she was focused on her music and studying her designs. She saw people moving out of the corner of her eye but she couldn’t care, she just wanted to sit down and started sewing.
The next thing she knows somebody, who she thinks is Jon, is leading her to a different, which she hopes is her room so she can start working.
“Here’s your room,” the person said, opening the door. She mutters a thank you before sitting down at the desk that was across the room from her. She starts laying out fabrics and separating them for each outfit. That was all she could get done by the time Clark and Lois walked in to say goodbye it was almost dinner time already. She was going to go downstairs when she was interrupted by a call by Adrien. She decided to forgo dinner and just continue working. She heard a quiet knock on the door and an older man walks in.
“Welcome to Wayne Manor, Miss Marinette, it would seem that you missed dinner, so I took the liberty to bring you some food,” he greets.
“Great thank you,” Marinette mutters, putting down her sewing actually taking a minute to look up. “Alfred? Where the heck am I?”
“You’re in the Wayne Manor, Miss” Alfred repeats, putting the plate down.
“Oh my apologies, I’ve been distracted with my work, I didn’t even realize where I was,” Marinette sighs, before realizing she was still on the phone. “Sorry Adrien, I’ll call you tomorrow, go to bed, it’s late.” She finishes, hanging up.
“I heard from Martha that you like to bake,” Alfred says.
“Yeah, that’s true, I grew up in a bakery,” Marinette shrugs, taking a piece of bread.
“The kitchen is open if you would like to use it,” Alfred says before leaving the room. Marinette nods to herself while eating her food while it’s still warm. After she finishes, she decides that she needs a stretch so she takes her plate to the kitchen and to grab a coffee.
When she gets to the kitchen she’s shocked to see a pot already brewing. There’s a guy half-passed out, or half-awake depending at how you look at things, practically sprawled out on the counter. “Are you ok?” Marinette asks, looking for a mug.
“Oh my gosh! Are you real?” he asks, startling awake.
“I would assume I’m real, you’re Tim, right? Where are the mugs?” Marinette asks, opening random cabinets. “Nevermind, I found them.”
“You’re the magic girl, you don’t need coffee,” he says, pouring himself a huge mug of coffee.
“Against popular belief, we do need sleep and basic human necessities,” She explains taking the pot from him.
“Why do you need coffee?”
“When I was in Smallville, I wasn’t able to go to the supply store. I asked Lois and Clark to take me they said yes, so we stopped on our way over,” Marinette says, sipping her coffee.
“What supplies?”
“Fabric, I’m behind on my Uncle’s orders, but he understands,” Marinette shrugs.
“Great what we need another coffee addict,” Another voice grumbles, entering the kitchen.
“Good to see you, Demon, what are you doing up?” Tim asks, unimpressed.
“I heard you shriek,” Damian deadpans.
“I didn’t shriek,” Tim says, offended.
“Well, I’m just going to go back to my room, you guys can work out whatever brotherly love is going on here,” Marinette says, brushing past Damian.
“Wait,” he says, grabbing her wrist.
“What?” she asks, turning towards him.
“I- umm..,” he starts catching himself. “Welcome to the manor, I hope you’ll find your stay enjoyable.” he finishes, letting go of her arm.
“Umm.. of course, thank you, Dami,” Marinette yawns, rubbing the back of her neck before rushing off to do her work.
Once she disappeared from view Tim snickers behind his mug. “I can tell you one thing you didn’t inherit from Bruce.” He chuckles.
“I like it better when you were unconscious,” Damian says, stomping off towards his room.
“Words can’t hurt me,” Tim yells at his back.
“But swords can,” Damian shouts over his shoulder.
“Must have gotten on his nerves, it’s been a while since he’s threatened us,” Dick says, entering the kitchen. “Aso what have we agreed on for coffee?”
“But Marinette had some,” Tim whines, rushing away from Dick before he can take his sustenance.
“She’s a magic girl, she gets a pass,” Dick yells at his back.
Marinette was back in her zone sewing what Jagged needed the soonest, he has a concert in Boston soon before going to New York and then coming over to Gotham. She was working on is concert wear first. She works through the night until a knock interrupts her thoughts once again, expecting it to be Alfred or Jon, she mindlessly says come in.
“Good morning, Marinette,” Damian says, entering the room.
“It’s morning?” She asks, looking up from her work.
“Yes, have you been working all night?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.
“I guess I have,” she responds in a daze.
“What are you working on, if I may ask,” Damian asks, sitting down on the edge of her bed.
“Just a commission for my uncle.”
“Your uncle is going to wear a purple-glittery suit?”
“Uncle Jagged is over the top like that, but it suits him,” Marinette shrugs, inspecting her handy work.
“Jagged as in Jagged Stone, you’re his personal designer?”
“You didn’t realize that?”
“If I didn’t realize that, there’s no way my incompetent sibling realized it either,” Damian smirks.
“Why does it matter?” She asks, looking up from her work.
“They love Jagged Stone and they love your designs,” Damian explains.
“Well, Jagged will need to pick up his stuff, by the way, I should mention he’s also trying to adopt me,” Marinette says, continuing to work on the finishing touches to the piece. “Oh by the way, what made you stop by?”
“Oh.. um- I wanted to see if you wanted to come down for breakfast,” Damian responds.
“Sure, let me put this down,” she finished before standing up to follow Damian to the dining room. They enter the dining room together and all of the eyes are on them.
“Hey, Marinette, I thought you were dead,” Jon jokes, taking a bite of toast.
“Not dead, just exhausted. Also, thanks for having us, Bruce,” Marinette says, taking a seat in between Jon and Damian.
“It is my pleasure to,” Bruce says, looking over the newspaper.
“This won’t give you the advantage in the adoption war,” Jon snickers.
“I have a different way to get her in the family,” Bruce retorts.
“I should mention, can my uncle come over later this week to pick up his orders?” Marinette asks, pouring herself more coffee.
“What day?”
“Friday afternoon I would think,” Marinette says, stabbing the food in front of her.
“I was informed that he is also in the running adoption,” Damian says, sipping his water.
“I’m not thinking about adoption,” Bruce says, which brought some confused looks and some coughs.
“All I’m going to say is, my dad is freaking Superman so I think we’ll win this adoption war,” Jon shrugs.
“Jon!” Multiple people say, which caused everyone to look around.
“Wait you guys know?” Marinette asks, confused.
“Of course we know, how do you know?” Jason asks.
“Oh, after she was revealed as a magic girl, Mom was quite annoyed to be left out of the superhero club,” Jon says.
“That makes sense,” Damian shrugs and continues eating. They continue eating breakfast, with some light chatter, and some teases mostly aimed at Damian and Marinette, and there total not crushes on each other.
After breakfast, Marinette holes herself back up in her room to continue working on her commissions. That’s how she spends the rest of the day, she gets a phone call from Adrien and they talked for a while. After lunch, Damian came in and sat with her for a bit and they made light talk. He sat and read his book as she sews more, breaking every once in a while to talk. She was honestly very happy how she spent one of her last days of vacation.
She is even happier the next day Jagged and Penny arrived. The boys’ shocked faces are priceless.
“You’re trying to tell me your Uncle is, Jagged Stone, as in THE Jagged Stone,” Jason exclaims.
“I swear I mentioned this,” Marinette says, scratching her head before shugging.
“How’s my rockin’ ladybug!” Jagged says, pulling her into a hug.
“I’m doing good, I’m exhausted, though,” Marinette yawns before going to grab the bags that held her work from her room.
“Did you guys let her stay up way too late to finish them?” Jagged asks, in all seriousness.
“She lived off coffee for the past two days,” Tim says.
“If you’re ever around her when she’s like this, she has a curfew of one a.m.. At that time, you are allowed to gently take everything from her hands and just lewd her to her bed,” Jagged explains.
“Are you betraying me, Jagged?” Marinette asks arms crossed to the best of her ability because she was holding his outfits.
“All I’m saying Mari is that you lost enough sleep as a hero teen, you need to catch up on it now,” Jagged said, copying her posture.
“Hey you can’t even blame me, I remember having to fight a Fang because he was akumatized into freakin dragon around midnight,” Marinette deadpans. “I don’t hold it against you though, I got to fly, it was liberating.”
“I wrote you and Adrien a song because of it,” Jagged fires back.
“Conversation over, go try on the outfits,” Marinette says, shoving them into his arms.
“Fine, fine, so bossy,” Jagged sighs, before walking away.
“So you’re his personal designer? Which means you are Nettie!” Tim says.
“You’re Nettie and a magic girl! Bruce can we adopt her please!” Dick pleads.
There are three in sync no’s that follow, one from Jagged, one from Marinette, and lastly, on from Damian.
“Damian, why wouldn’t you want Marinette apart of your family? She rocking! If you can’t see this amazing girl, then you’re blind,” Jagged defends. “It doesn’t matter anyway, I got first dibs.”
“Tell that to Adrien’s aunt, she wants to adopt me as well,” Marinette responds.
“Don’t forget about my parents,” Jon adds.
“Joint custody?” Jagged shrugs. “Can we cut Adrien’s aunt out? She can have you when you visit him.”
“It doesn’t really matter to me, I’m just trying to make the most of what my life is right now,” Marinette shrugs.
“It’s decided, Clark and I have split custody,” Jagged shrugs.
“Woah, Woah, Woah, you can’t come into my house and cut me out of the adoption,” Bruce says, crossing his arms.
“You just wanted her in the family, we don’t need a triple custody for that,” Tim points out.
“Well this has been a great conversation, and I love being adopted and stuff, but I haven’t slept since Wednesday so I’m going to go to bed,” Marinette yawns. “Goodnight everyone.”
“I’ll walk you to your room so um you don’t get lost, it is a bit manor,” Damian says, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Um… sure, let’s go,” Marinette says, letting him lead her down the hall. When they’re out of earshot Jagged says. “They’re totally into each other, I’m no the only one seeing, right?”
“You’d have to literally be blind or be one of them to not notice it,” Jason says.
“So were you happy to see your uncle?” Damian asks.
“Of course, I haven’t seen him since before my move,” Marinette smiles.
“I’m pleased that you’re staying for the rest of break with us,” Damian says as they approach her room. “Sleep well, Angel.” He says, kissing her hand.
“Damn, I really hope this isn’t a dream,” Marinette mutters out, her eyelids feeling heavy. He leads her to lay down and she drags him down with her. “Imma go to sleep now,” she says hugging him tightly.
“Let me go first,” Damian mutters out.
“No, you’ll help me sleep,” she mutters back into his chest.
“You better not remember this tomorrow,” Damian grumbles. He doesn’t get a response.

Luz’s mother really doesn’t want to send Luz to camp. She knows once she leaves, there is no going back. But Luz has a knack for getting into trouble, and one day she stumbles into the same type of people her mother would have preferred she avoided. After helping Luz dissolve her high school bully into dust, Eda and Lilith know right away that this kid is just like them - a child of the gods. So Luz hops on a Pegasus and heads to Camp Half-blood, where she embarks on a dangerous quest that makes her both friends and enemies... and she might even save Olympus along the way.
Chapter Thirty-Six: I Have the Best Summer Ever
The rest of Luz’s summer was a total blur of the best kind of amazing, fantastic, demigod-ness a kid could even imagine.
Luz’s days were filled with training in the arena, playing capture the flag, and hanging out with her friends. Every morning that she woke up and put on one of her orange t-shirts was another reminder that as of right now, she really had it good.
Sometimes in the mornings she and Eda would head out into the arena and spar while King took his usual sunbathing position a few feet away. Eda would parry and block her strikes, give her dirty tricks to use in upcoming games or events, and sometimes Luz would even get lucky enough to disarm her or pull something new she wasn’t expecting.
“I swear kid, one of these days you’re going to be even better than me,” she’d say, reaching down to ruffle her hair and switch her weapon and get ready for another round.
More than once, she and her siblings in the Hermes cabin had banded together to play some light-hearted pranks on the other cabins. Viney and Jerbo were a mischievous force to be reckoned with, and while Luz liked to participate she never really got lucky in the “getting away” part. More than once, Lilith had caught her in the act while she was placing a prank and turned a blind eye, and Luz always felt a rush of affection for the daughter of Zeus. It was asking a lot for her to not snitch, especially since she was a stickler for rules.
Luz made it up to her once or twice by pranking Eda on her behalf with a little bit of help from Edric and Emira. When her mentor showed up to the dining pavilion once with her hair sticking straight up in the air thanks to some magic hair gel, the laugh that came out of Lilith’s mouth made it all worth it.
At nights, Luz and Amity would sneak out of their cabins and hide from the harpies, sitting with their sketchbooks in the strawberry fields. They would laugh, and talk, and kiss, and enjoy each other’s company until one of them inevitably almost fell asleep and they decided to head back.
The wall of Luz’s bunk was soon tacked to the max with drawings, some of them of her quest, and some of them with fond memories of camp. She always did her best to text one to her Mami once in a while, and let her know how she was doing.
Luz made sure her cabin would try and team up with Gus and Willow’s whenever they could. The three of them were officially a force to be reckoned with during capture the flag. Their combinations and chemistry in battle often resulted in very easy and very early wins, and some of the other cabins were quick to point out they had an “unfair quest experience advantage”. While Eda had just shrugged, Willow did her best to make sure the teams would sometimes even out a little better after that.
Gods kept visiting camp here and there, usually to come by and say hello to their kids. Aphrodite had the habit of showing up unannounced and snapping her fingers, giving everybody an unrealistically fashionable outfit and hairdo, while the clothes they’d been wearing got snapped back to their bunks freshly washed and laundered. While some of the campers hated it, Luz didn’t mind. Aphrodite certainly had her style down to perfection, and pocketing another free outfit was always nice. Amity had other opinions on the matter.
“I just don’t get why she has to do this!” She complained, adjusting the pink t-shirt Aphrodite had magically slapped onto her. “It’s so weird!”
“I think that really suits you,” Luz shrugged while pointing to the leather jacket slung over Amity’s arm. “And your shirt says Hexside! How cool is that!”
Amity rolled her eyes as Luz did a spin, showing off her new green jacket and beanie to Gus and Willow. “She gave me new shoes too! My old ones are torn to bits from the quest.”
“You have to admit Amity, it’s nice getting free stuff,” Willow said while examining her own yellow jacket. “And she’s not the goddess of beauty for nothing. These are nice clothes.”
“My clothes look exactly like the ones I already own!” Gus complained, looking down at his simple navy button-up and jeans.
“If it isn’t broken don’t fix it!” Luz teased with a smile, patting him on the back. Amity groaned in embarrassment, slapping her hands to her face.
When Hermes showed up the first few times to visit the camp, Luz said hello to him, but also made sure that her other siblings got to spend some one-on-one time with their dad. As he was leaving the third time he visited, he pulled Luz aside for a quick chat.
“I just want to let you know that the gods have talked about adding an additional reward for you and your friends after what you’ve done for Olympus,” he said quietly, and Luz’s jaw dropped.
“I… I don’t need another reward dad. The way you guys have been showing up at camp is more than enough.”
Hermes tilted his head, smiling softly. “Perhaps you don’t need one, but the gods want to give it to you anyway. You have no idea the gravity of the situation that Belos had created upon Olympus. He almost destroyed us all.”
He looked around to make sure nobody was listening, and then leaned in to whisper.
“As the god of messengers, I was responsible for delivering a package to your mother and the rest of your companion's parents. You should hear from them shortly.”
Luz gaped. “What? What do you mean…”
Hermes reached over and gripped her shoulders. “I am proud of you, Luz. And trust me when I say I will make good on my promise and be there more for you and your siblings.” He winced rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. “And… don’t be the first one to use the shower this evening. Your siblings and I might have set up a bit of a cruel prank.”
With a flash of wind, leaving behind a thoroughly confused Luz, Hermes was gone.
Luz didn’t have to wait long to find out what exactly the gods had done, because her Mami was calling her on her cellphone almost immediately after.
“Luz! You’ll never guess what showed up in the mail today! You’ve been accepted for a full ride to a boarding school downtown…”
And she wasn’t the only one.
“I can’t believe this!” Gus had exclaimed while the four of them were sitting on the beach just after dinner. “We’re all going to the same school next year!”
“It really does seem too good to be true,” Willow grinned, handing Luz one of the illicit cans of Sprite that Viney had managed to sneak from out of camp in celebration. “My dads are sad that I won’t be staying at home in Wisconsin, but they had to admit it is a great opportunity.”
“I’m just excited to go to a school where I finally have real friends.” Luz had never been so happy to think about the start of a new school year before. “We’ll get to go see Olympus on the weekends! Working alongside the actual gods!” Luz turned to Amity, who was watching Luz with her own soft smile. “Are your parents… okay with this? After everything that happened…”
“Oh trust me, they’re more than pleased. They see this whole internship program to create a bridge between the gods and their mortal kids as a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity'. They’re even talking about paying for Edric and Emira to go with me and hope that my ‘success’ rubs off on them. They don’t love that you guys are also a part of it though…” Amity’s expression darkened for a moment, and Luz reached across the beach to squeeze her hand.
“I’m sorry,” Luz started, but Amity just shrugged her shoulders.
“Don’t apologize, this is a good thing. I’m going to get to stay here in New York full time.”
“We all get too!” Gus grinned, digging his hands in the sand like he was holding back a squeal. “Luz you’ve got to show us all your favorite moral spots in the city.”
Luz’s smile had stretched wide, already imaging the kinds of shenanigans she and her friends would get up to running loose in Manhattan. “Obviously! The city’s huge; we could do something new every night!”
“You’ll never be able to get away from us now,” Willow teased, passing Amity an amused look as she sipped from her Sprite. Amity tilted her head back and laughed.
“Oh gods, I better stock up on Advil. Between you three and the twins I’m going to have a constant headache…”
As it started to fade to late August, Luz’s days just kept getting better. Thanks to Eda and her training paired with the other camp activities, she was faster than she’d ever been, she could scale up the rock wall in record times, and her sword skills had gotten incredibly good.
So good, that when the annual sparring tournament came up in the arena towards the end of the summer, she’d been able to knock Boscha into the dirt with the pommel of Aletheia, leaving the red-faced daughter of Ares extremely bitter and her final opponent being none other than her girlfriend.
“No chance you’re going to go easy on me?” Luz asked at the campfire that night, really only half-joking.
“Nope,” Amity replied with a little smirk. “I’ve won this tournament two years in a row. I’m about to make it three.”
To say the camp was buzzing with excitement would be an understatement. The whole camp had watched as Luz the newbie quest hero and Amity Blight had grown obviously closer, and in the three days leading up to the final tournament match, the discussion of which girlfriend would be the winner was as common as asking what the harpies would serve for dessert that night.
“Come on, kid, this is what we trained for!” Eda said, smacking her shoulders encouragingly the night before the match. “I don’t care if she’s you’re little girlfriend, she won’t be going easy on you so you shouldn’t either!”
“Knock her into the dirt!” King screeched from his napping spot on the ground.
While they were only trying to help, it wasn’t the most reassuring advice she’d ever received.
Luz tried to turn a blind eye to the gossip leading up to the fight, but it was hard to ignore Emira and Willow exchange a bet right in front of her at breakfast right before the right.
“Seriously?” Luz scoffed, crossing her arms.
“Sorry Luz, but Mittens has years of training under her belt, and I’m out of allowance,” Emira shrugged while she shook Willow’s hand.
“You don’t see the way Amity acts around her,” Willow retorted. “If she’s like that today, Luz has a good chance.”
Emira hummed, “Shoot. I didn’t think of that.”
“Oh my gods,” Luz groaned, slapping both hands to her face, sinking into the bench of the table, mortified.
Once Luz had been fitted into a set of finally well-fitting bronze armor, she drew Aletheia and met Amity in the center of the field, where Eda and Lilith were standing to referee the match. As she approached, she watched Amity coming from the other side, armor almost identical to Luz’s strapped over an orange camp shirt, the crowd of campers cheering in excitement. As her gaze flitted up to Amity’s eyes, there was a glint that reminded Luz that Amity was not the person she wanted to be on the bad side of.
It was too easy to forget weeks after their quest that Amity was a demigod force to be reckoned with and not the kind of enemy you wanted to have.
As the crowd quieted to an anticipated hum, Lilith raised her hand. Her mouth was cocked in an uncharacteristically juvenile smirk. It made Luz wonder if the campers hadn’t been the only folks at camp to place bets. When Eda shot Luz a cartoonish smile with two thumbs up, before patting her pocket knowingly, it confirmed her suspicions.
Gods. Now she really couldn’t lose. Eda would never forgive her.
“Amity! Luz! Are you ready?”
With a single touch to her own wrist, Dike sprung into its full form, lifted just high enough to cover the grin that was spreading across Amity’s face. She swung her sword experimentally in her hand, the little flecks of a glinting in the sun. “Yep.”
Luz took a deep breath and raised her own blade nodding once. “Ready as I’ll ever be.”
“No holding back, right?” Even though Amity had phrased it as a question, Luz knew better. It was a challenge. The nerves in her stomach faded, and a laugh escaped her lips.
“Since when have I ever held back? ”
She smirked, “good point.”
“Alright your adorable banter is literally making me sick,” Eda scoffed, “let’s just do this already.”
Lilith rolled her eyes, dropping her hand. “Begin!”
Without wasting another beat, Amity charged and swung, and Luz lifted Aletheia to deflect it. A loud metallic clang echoed around the arena, and the watching campers erupted into cheers.
It was Luz’s toughest match yet.
The two of them traded blow for blow, each pushing the other to their limit. Amity was, inarguably, better trained, with mastered precision and skill that left Luz reeling with each strike. But Luz was more creative. She was able to flick her sword at the right angle to push her off balance and shove, she was able to dodge and weave without the extra weight of a shield, and she was crazy enough to take steps closer to her and press into her personal space, forcing her to recalculate moves.
As the fight went on for some time, the cheering got louder, their arms got heavier as they began to slow down, and the fighting got dirtier.
Luz did it first, though it was kind of an accident. Amity went to swing when she’d knocked Luz off balance, and she knew she wasn’t going to be able to stop it before it cut into her armor. Amity would have taken it out on herself later if she’d seriously hurt Luz, so it came out as more of an instinctual shout.
“Too low!”
She closed her eyes bracing for impact, but it never came. With a woosh, the sword went right over her head. She opened her eyes and saw Amity’s misty eyes clearing, before changing to a completely indignant look.
“Did you just use your Hermes bartering on me?”
She smiled sheepishly and swung Aletheia towards her, and Amity barely had time to raise her shield to deflect it.
She could hear the snorts and chuckles from both Eda and the crowd, but Luz barely had time to be proud of herself. Within the next two swings back and forth, Amity got her revenge.
Luz swung upwards, flicking the blade and finally getting a decent move that knocked her off balance. But as Luz went to disarm her, Amity’s eyes flashed and a curled smile crept up her face right as Luz brought her weapon forward.
“Don’t!”
And for a moment, all Luz could feel was the thrum of her heartbeat in her head as her vision went blurry. There was an overwhelming urge to get rid of Aletheia, back away, stop herself from getting any closer to Amity. All she could think about was how she couldn’t hurt her, wouldn’t even try. When her vision cleared, she had backed up five feet, and her sword slipped from her hand and clattered in the dirt.
She blinked, trying to figure out what had just happened before it dawned on her that she’d seen Amity do this once before. Aphrodite’s passion.
Luz looked down at the sword, then up at Amity, scowling. “Really?”
Despite the smirk on her face, Amity’s eyes were sparkling with humor and affection. “You started it.”
Luz barely had time to leap out of the way from another swing, doing her best to make a grab for the sword, but Amity wasn’t coming to play. She stepped right over it, and for a couple of moments, all Luz had was her speed. She ducked and dodged and weaved between swings, doing nothing but buying herself a tiny bit of time.
It wasn’t enough. Luz tried to make one last grab for the sword and Amity reached out with her hand, grabbing Luz by the arm and honest-to-gods judo flipping Luz over her shoulder. With a comically loud “oomph!” Luz was thrown onto her back, looking up at Amity as she grinned, her sword lifted in a faux-threatening position just below her chin.
“Alright,” Luz groaned, slapping her hand against the dirt. “Mercy.”
As Luz heard Eda groaning behind her and Lilith’s positively gleeful “and the winner is Amity Blight!” Amity sheathed her sword, reaching down with one hand and pulling Luz up to her feet.
And yeah, it was a tiny bit embarrassing to lose to Amity. But as her girlfriend lifted her fist to the roaring crowd of campers and grinned, her own hand wrapped tightly around Luz’s, she couldn’t find it in her to care.
The following night was Luz’s last night at camp before her first summer as a camper was over. She sat at the dining hall for hours with her siblings, joking, laughing, promising to stay in touch over the school year. Viney ruffled her hair and passed her an emergency pouch of Hermes tricks, while Jerbo reminded her not to be too close to this one when it exploded.
Edric and Emira snuck up on Luz at the table and informed them their parents did in fact enroll them in the same boarding school come the fall, and while Luz loved Amity’s twin siblings, the devious grin on her face did make her a bit nervous.
Right after dinner, Luz made a point to go find Eda and King, who were in their usual spot at the arena.
“Kid!” Eda said as she approached. “That was some great swordplay today.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t win, I know Lilith is probably giving you a hard time…” Luz said immediately, but Eda just held up a hand.
“Gross, sympathy. You’ve accomplished more than most first-timers this summer, and you’ve… made me proud.” There was a crooked smile on her face as Luz looked up at her, and she realized that Eda really was going to miss training with her. “Don’t be slacking while you’re gone. Keep your skills sharp. Stay out of the bad trouble, but in the good trouble. Don’t die. Oh, and if you’re getting chased by another empousai and need a quick getaway, there’s a great alley on sixty-second street-”
Luz rushed in, pulling Eda into a tight hug. While Eda huffed out a little groan at Luz’s overwhelming need to be touchy, Luz felt a rush of affection as the daughter of Zeus leaned into it anyway.
“Thanks, Eda,” Luz muttered into her shoulder.
A hand came up to pat into her hair. “No problem, kid. If Lili and I are ever heading to Mount Olympus, I’ll make sure we stop by that fancy new school of yours and say hello.”
“You better.”
"Can I come too?" King called out from at their feet, and Luz bent down to pick up the tiny hellhound scratching behind his ears.
"Yeah, can he?" Luz pleaded, and Eda rolled her eyes.
"Gods, you two are just the cutest things ever. Fine, whatever, the next time I go to Olympus I'll let him tag along."
After a chorus of excited cheering from Luz and King, it was time for the last campfire of the year. Luz finally got the true Camp Half-Blood experience. As Eda was leading the campers in a final last hurrah of songs and games, she walked over to Luz and reached out, handing her a leather necklace.
“As you all know, per tradition, every year we give our campers a bead to celebrate another year at camp. This year, the Hermes cabin designed the beads, and there is someone very special they wanted to honor.”
Luz blinked at it, taking it gingerly, and as she did Viney stood up, the twisted smile on her face visible through the crackling orange, magical, campfire.
“Luz, not only are you our newest sibling, but you helped lead a quest that not only saved Camp Half-Blood but all of Olympus. So with permission from the councilors from all the cabins, we dedicate this year’s bead to you and your quest!”
There was a whooping of applause as the beads were passed out, and when Luz took a look at it her heart clenched, affection and gratitude washing over her in a whirl.
It was a beautiful deep purple bead with a very familiar-looking sword and shield, and as she turned it in the light of the campfire, the glint of the light made it glow a beautiful magical bronze.
“So, did we nail it?” Viney asked as Luz was left speechless. Willow and Gus were grinning over at her with knowing smiles. Next to her, Amity squeezed her hand, looking just as emotional as Luz felt.
Luz leaned over and threw herself into the embrace of her half-sister, and the campfire erupted into more whoops and cheers. And yeah, Luz might have teared up a bit as she sat back down next to her friends, but if anybody noticed they didn’t comment on it.
That morning as she packed up what few belongings she actually had, electing to leave a majority of the items she’d bought for next summer, she was digging through her backpack when her fingers touched something soft. She pulled out a stiff, slick, feather, and immediately broke into a smile. Carefully sliding it across the leather to dangle right next to her bead, she clipped the necklace on and slung her backpack over her shoulder. Saying one final goodbye to the Hermes cabin, she walked out the door to go meet Willow and Gus in the strawberry fields.
When she got there, she couldn’t help but grin. Around the growing collection of beads on their necklaces, five and four respectively, a single matching feather was dangling from the middle. While none of them said anything about it at first, Luz watched as both Willow and Gus glanced down, their eyes softening with affection.
“Well?” Willow asked as she reached them, gesturing towards the now distant Camp Half-Blood. “Give us the verdict. What did you think of your first year at camp?”
“I…” Luz didn’t even know what to say. Sure, there had been the lows. The hungry belly as she traveled across the Midwest, the sword slashes, the monsters, the horrible villain who’d threatened to destroy the world. But right now as Luz looked between her friends and her new home, she felt nothing but love for her new life. The mischievous half-siblings, the rivals between the cabins, the eccentric camp directing duo that was the daughters of Zeus, Gus, Willow, Amity…
Luz couldn’t ever recall a time in her entire life that she’d felt so full.
“All I can think right now is that I don’t want it to end,” Luz finally said, and Willow and Gus stepped forward to pull her into a group hug.
“It won’t end, at least, not really,” Gus promised, his voice muffled as he was shoved into Luz’s bicep.
“Yeah, it’s just a short break,” Willow nodded, leaning her head against Luz’s shoulder and wrapping her other arm around Gus. “And in two weeks, we’ll all be together again on a new adventure.”
Luz laughed, “yeah, because the life of a half-blood is never really quiet, is it?”
“Well, that’s half the fun of it,” Amity said from behind her, and when Luz turned her head she saw her girlfriend walking through the field to join them. Her own backpack was swung over her shoulder, and she had a genuine, at peace, smile on her face.
“Spoken like a true Blight,” Willow chuckled from next to Luz, and Amity laughed.
“Well, maybe I’ll get lucky and this year away from my parents will shake some of that out of me.”
“You’re sure you’re mom and dad are okay with you staying at my Mami’s for two weeks?” Luz asked for what felt like the sixth time that week, and Amity shrugged her shoulders.
“I’m back to being their number one, despite all the… drama, that happened the last time we saw them. Edric and Emira will pack my things for school for me. Honestly… it’s kind of nice not going back to Colorado.”
After getting a first-hand glimpse into how uptight and uncomfortable the Blight Manor was, Luz couldn’t help but agree.
“Don’t have too much fun you two,” Willow teased, and Amity flushed over the sound of Gus’ laugher while Luz bumped her with her shoulder.
Whatever retort Luz would have come up with died in her throat as she looked down towards the pine tree. There, a few parents were already waiting at the border, with some campers joining them and saying hello. Among the waiting ones, Luz saw a man almost identical to Gus, and two other men standing together with their hands interlinked.
“We better not keep them waiting,” Gus said slowly, but he looked back up at Luz with a frown. Willow was standing there as well, and for just another moment Luz felt that same rush of love.
“No, you shouldn’t. Amity and I will meet you at grand central in two weeks, okay?”
“Two weeks,” Willow affirmed, and Luz pulled the four of them into one last group hug before Willow and Gus grabbed their things and went to go join their parents at the pine tree.
It wasn’t a real goodbye, nowhere near it. But Luz couldn’t help but feel her throat close up at the sight of them reuniting with their parents. Gus’ dad scooped him up into the biggest hug, and one of Willow’s dads immediately took her backpack while the other one kissed her cheek.
She felt Amity’s warm hand close around hers, and when she looked back, the daughter of Aphrodite was smiling softly.
“It’s going to be okay.”
“I know,” Luz said, and she meant it. She squeezed her own hand around Amity’s, taking a moment to really let the gratitude she had for this camp, for these people, sink in.
It wasn’t long until she saw another familiar person join the other parents near the pine tree. Luz perked up immediately at the sight of her Mami, still dressed in her scrubs. She’d probably gotten off of a shift at the hospital and rushed all the way down to Long Island just to meet her and was looking around anxiously at the other gathering parents and campers.
“Is that her?” Amity sounded nervous, and when she looked over, she was reaching up with her other hand to self-consciously adjust her mint green hair.
“She’s going to love you,” Luz promised, giving her a reassuring kiss on the cheek. “She’s been talking about how excited she’s been to meet you for like, three weeks.”
“That… somehow makes me even more nervous,” Amity breathed out. Luz chuckled, adjusting the straps of her backpack over her shoulder as her Mami finally looked up and noticed them. She beamed so widely Luz could see it from all the way up in the strawberry hills, waving towards them.
“Well, then let’s do this together.”
Amity looked back at her one more time, taking a deep breath. “Alright. Together.”
And as they walked through the fields hand in hand, slowly getting farther and farther away from camp, Luz felt her anxieties about the coming months slowly begin to fade. That was part of the magic of Camp Half-Blood. The place wasn’t just a training ground for young demigods. It was a safe haven. A family. A place that, even miles and miles away from it, you always knew it would have your back. It would be there for you, whenever you wanted to return. So leaving it didn’t feel like a goodbye, not really.
Instead, it was the promise of another new beginning as a child of the gods.

(ONE SHOT) What is a legacy? DC
A03
When Wally had first met Earth's new Green Lantern, the  oh-so great Torchbearer, he'd wanted nothing to do with him. Wally - he'd grown up with Hal, then later John, and even Guy, and now all three were gone. He'd grown up with Hal dipping in and out of his Aunt and Uncles' house like he lived there. He'd grown up coming down to breakfast in the morning and seeing Uncle Hal there too, having just come back from space to crawl into bed next to Uncle Barry. When Aunt Iris had been killed, and Uncle Barry started spiraling out of control, it had been Uncle Hal who had kept everything together, who had promised Wally that he wouldn't let Barry out of his sight, that he'd watch his back. It had been Uncle Hal who Wally went to after Uncle Barry's death and the weight of being the Flash was too heavy.
Uncle Hal had been Wally's Green Lantern.
But Hal had broken too. He'd gone crazy and killed the Corps and then vanished. Hal had caved under the pressure no one had known he was under until it was too late, and when he'd come back he was mad.
Wally hadn't wanted a new Green Lantern, wouldn't give him the time of day, until he'd found himself outnumbered during a meeting discussing Hal - Lord Parallax - and had tried to argue that his Uncle needed compassion, understanding, and  help , not a fight. They'd called him too close to the situation, too young to know what needed to be done, like Wally hadn't been a hero since he was thirteen, like he was still the little kid in yellow who followed the Flash around and started at them all in childish awe. They could never separate him from the child he could be, but the new Lantern had never known him then, and had stood up and agreed with him.
It had worked too, because in the end, Hal had taken the hand being offered to him, and died to save the world.
After that, Wally had found himself seeking the Lantern out on his own. They still bickered, but Wally found that it reminded him more of the playful ribbing of Uncle Barry and Uncle Hal than any genuine bad blood. He got to know him, started genuinely thinking of him as a friend. He learned that his name is Kyle Rayner, that he’s two years younger than Wally and an independent artist that struggled to pay his bills now that he couldn’t spend all his time on commissions. He’s told that Kyle was well-liked growing up for being generally friendly and easy-going, but didn’t actually have friends until art college because he was just a little too weird for other kids to want to be around him long enough to actually hang out. He learns that Kyle’s mother is an Irish immigrant, that she was his biggest supporter growing up, and that he doesn’t know his father because the man walked out on them when Kyle was still very young, that the only memory of his father Kyle has is vaguely of him speaking Spanish. He learns that Kyle is multilingual, that he grew up speaking English and Gaelic, and learned Spanish in school. He learns the hard way that Kyle is lactose intolerant, and allergic to nuts. He learns funny little anecdotes about Kyle learning to draw before he learned how to walk, he learns that Kyle loves spicy food but doesn’t eat it often because the right spices don’t exist in space.
He learns a lot about Kyle, and it leads to Wally learning about himself as well.
He’d always known he wasn’t straight. He liked and dated girls, of course, he thought they were beautiful, but there was also a part of him that lingered a little too much during training. There was a part of him that looked at certain friends and said,  damn I’d like to kiss him. Dick had been the first, back when they’d still been young sidekicks just starting out, and it had continued on wards for a bit too. It had been reciprocated too; they’d messed around together a bit, but they’d ended it on good terms because Wally wasn’t ready to completely come out yet. He’d been happy for Dick, when he’d started dating Kori, then Babs, and then more and more people. After Dick had been Roy, for a little bit, because Roy was the cool, rebellious older boy, but it wasn’t long before that little crush faded away and Wally started looking at him like an older brother. He’d had that really embarrassing teenage crush on John Stewart for a while, the one that had made Hal burst a gut laughing at him for, before ruffling his hair and telling him under no uncertain terms that it wouldn’t be happening.
Well, Wally had known for a while that he liked men too, even if he hadn’t exactly come out to anyone but those he was closest too. His head was filled full of his dad’s hateful words, something he was working hard to shut out. Kyle though, he didn’t hide the fact that he was trans, or that he was pan - he’d grown up in California and now lived in New York, both of which had more of a thriving community than the likes of the small Midwestern Blue Valley Wally had lived in before moving to Central after getting his powers, and then Keystone after he became the Flash and living in Barry’s house was too much for him.
Kyle was - well, he was nice. A breath of fresh air, really. He was a fellow hero, a member of the main roster, so he knows Wally’s identity and understands the demands of being a superhero better than a civilian would. He’s his age, but didn’t grow up with him, and he  gets  what Wally is going through, standing in someone else’s shoes and being judged as less worthy compared to his predecessor. Before Wally knows it, he finds himself drifting closer and closer to Kyle, to the point where he’s heard older heroes whispering between them of another Flash-Green Lantern team up.
Apparently it brings back nostalgic emotions to see a Flash and Green Lantern dozing off in the rec room, lights dim and some silly movie or another playing in the background. Wally’s just glad he and Kyle have more control than Uncle Hal did, and haven’t been found in a cleaning closet somewhere.
Now, Wally is pretty sure he knows how Uncle Barry felt whenever Hal would stumble into the house at all hours of the night after a long mission in space to pass out in the bed next to him. He’s gotten used to the faint green glow that accompanies Kyle powering down, the faint hum of the Lantern uniform against his skin before it melts away to whatever civvies Kyle happened to be wearing before getting called out. There’s a soft warmth that comes with waking up in the morning to find Kyle sprawled out next to him, lit up by the soft golden light streaming in through the windows as he breathes, deep asleep. There’s a giddiness that comes with finding more and more of Kyle’s things slowly being added to his apartment; it starts with pajamas and extra clothes, but soon Wally is finding art supplies scattered around, or Kyle’s favourite butterscotch shampoo in the shower.
It’s how Wally realizes that he’s in love with his teammate.
He’s staring down at the innocently placed soap he remembers seeing before in Kyle’s shower when it hits him. Nowadays, Kyle spends more time at Wally’s apartment than anywhere else other than the Watchtower when he’s planet-side, and not out rebuilding the entire Green Lantern Corps on his own. Wally isn’t even sure when it started, that he started bringing more and more of his things to Wally’s small Keystone apartment. He thinks back to the sketchbooks and half-finished paintings scattered around the rooms, of the lactose free milk he didn’t think twice before buying when grocery shopping, of the space in his drawers made for Kyle’s clothes and the paint stained shirts in the laundry basket. He thinks about the lack of nut products in his apartment, of the boxes of tampons and pads he doesn't even blink over stocking up on anymore.
Wally moves so fast he’s dry instantly, bursting into his bedroom where Kyle lays among rumbled sheets. His white t-shirt had ridden up in his sleep, and the waistband of his track pants down, exposing a thin line of the packed core muscles that came with the training they all endured in the League. Somehow, his dark hair looks artfully tousled, inky against the sheets, and lashes just as dark are fanned across sun-browned skin and freckles.
He’s unfairly pretty.
“Kyle!”
Kyle jolts, ring flaring green as he stares around groggily, looking for a threat, “Wha-”
“Are we dating?” Wally blurts out, uncaring of his nakedness in the face of his realization.
Kyle blinks once, twice, looking fuzzy, before he groans, long and dramatic as his uniform dissolves into green sparkles and he drops back onto the bed, throwing an arm over his eyes. There’s a long moment of silence, before the Lantern snorts, and then bursts into breathless giggles.
Wally flounders, “I’m serious!”
Kyle slants a look at him from under his arm, brown eyes warm and almost honey gold in the morning light, “I’d hope we’re dating.” Kyle tells him, voice thick with sleepy amusement, “Otherwise I’ve  really been overstepping.”
Wally blushes, feeling a little silly, now that he’s thinking about it. They - they really  have been dating, haven’t they? “Oh.” Flustered, Wally rubs a hand down his face, hoping to brush away the burning in his cheeks.
Kyle snickers again, expression warm. “You’re adorable.”
Wally groans, “I’m never going to live this down, am I?” He mutters, listening to Kyle dissolve into giggles again.
“Oh, definitely.” The Lantern teases, before sitting up and stretching with a yawn. “Well,” he drawls, amused, “now that I’m awake -” brown eyes rake across Wally’s body, and an eyebrow quirks, “- got a reason for this  visit ?” His voice takes on more of a purr, and Wally blinks in confusion.
Then he remembers.
“Oh.” Wally squeaks, red spreading rapidly across his  completely naked body. “I - shower -  soap - it’s just-” he cuts himself with an embarrassed groan. "I'm making this worse."
Kyle doubles over from the force of his laughter, holding his stomach as he wheezes, hand flapping. “Kidding -” he gasps, “- I’m just kidding.” The Lantern slides off the bed, still snickering, to press a lightning-quick kiss to his lips that, for Wally, lingers for so much longer. “Go have a shower, babe.” Kyle tells him warmly, “I’ll make some breakfast.”

Lukadrien: Zebras Can’t Change Their Stripes: Chapter Four
Read it on AO3: Zebras Can’t Change Their Stripes: Chapter Four
When Adrien woke up, everything smelled fresh and clean, like fabric softener and laundry detergent.
He was warm and dry, and the bed, the covers, and his pyjamas were all comfortable and soft.
He’d been holding his cat plushie, Chat Noir the Third, when he’d fallen asleep, and C3 was still tucked under Adrien’s arm, fur fuzzy against Adrien’s skin.
It was comforting. In a way, it reminded him of Plagg and how they would sometimes snuggle.
Adrien rolled over onto his back and hugged C3 closer.
Grief and joy mingled in Adrien’s chest as he stared up at the clean, white ceiling.
The morning sun was pouring in through Adrien’s windows in a cheerful, inviting way that Adrien had never experienced in his old room with his old windows.
He was safe. He had a home—a real home this time.
It had been eleven years since he had last had a true home…since he’d lost his mother and the mansion had become silent, cold, and empty.
But now Adrien was home and safe and wanted.
He buried his face in C3’s fur, remembering what Luka had told him the previous day: Luka had bought C3 for Adrien so that he would remember he was loved.
It had been a long time since Adrien was last loved, and the prospect of getting something like that back was overwhelming.
He set C3 aside so that he wouldn’t get him dirty as he cried.
He couldn’t pinpoint exactly why he was crying, if it were happiness or sadness or stress, but it felt good to get the emotions out.
When he was done, he sat up, cleaned his face with the tissues on the nightstand, and got out of bed, ready to do his best with the second chance he’d been given.
It felt amazing to get dressed in new, clean clothes with the knowledge that he could throw them in the laundry whenever he felt like it at no charge and that he didn’t have to sleep in them or wear them for multiple days at a time.
It was really nice to have a spacious, private bathroom with a door that locked where he didn’t have to worry about the sanitation.
Well…Luka’s bathroom was currently a mess with toothpaste and shaving cream smudges on the counter and mirror and grooming products left spread out all over the place. Used towels were scattered, crumpled on the floor, and the medicine cabinet was left open.
But Adrien wasn’t necessarily worried, unlike he had been when using other bathrooms where he didn’t even want to think about what kind of germs were growing on surfaces.
Once dressed, Adrien went to Luka’s door and listened for signs that his roommate was awake.
The apartment was still, and Adrien didn’t see any light peeking out from underneath the door, so he assumed that Luka was still sleeping and, instead, made his way to the kitchen.
It was a war zone that had been subsequently ravaged by flood, famine, and pestilence.
It was hard to believe that things could go to ruin in as few as six days, but Adrien was seeing the evidence with his own eyes. Luka was the comparatively neat and tidy Couffaine, but The Breakup had obviously laid him very low indeed.
Dishes were piled high in the sink and crusted with days-old food debris, so Adrien rinsed and scrubbed to the best of his ability before loading them all up in the dishwasher.
Hardly anything in the fridge was worth salvaging.
Adrien got out trash bags from under the sink and started checking dates. He sniffed the items that still resembled food and summarily tossed the ones that were more petri dish than pasta.
He cleared off the counters, sorting the refuse from the misplaced possessions and raided the cabinet below the sink for cleaning supplies.
Once the kitchen was spotless, he expanded his efforts to the living room, picking up the dirty clothes, junk food wrappers, and takeaway containers.
He located the mop, broom, and vacuum cleaner in the coat closet and set about sweeping, reasoning that he would vacuum the rug once Luka was awake so that he didn’t disturb him.
With the living room looking presentable, he gathered up the rubbish, dirty clothes, and items needing to be returned to their respective homes, putting each grouping in their own location to be dealt with later. He then moved on to the bathroom.
By the time he was done tidying and scrubbing, it was midmorning, and he was starting to get kind of hungry. When he’d woken up, he’d still been full from the ridiculous amount of food he’d eaten the day before, but after burning so many calories cleaning, his body was getting ready to eat again.
Luka still hadn’t emerged from his room, so Adrien left a note on the blank page of a sketchbook he had found while cleaning to let Luka know that he hadn’t run away. He was just grocery shopping.
He tore another empty page out of the sketchbook so that he could write up a list of the things he needed from the store.
There was a Monoprix just up the street from the apartment, so it took him less than an hour to walk there, shop, and make it back home again.
He picked up a croissant from the bakery section to snack on as he cooked breakfast but noted that it paled in comparison to what he remembered of those from Tom and Sabine’s.
Adrien was beginning to think that Luka was dead as he plated the food. It was almost noon, and Adrien hadn’t heard a peep.
Luka had looked exhausted the previous day, and he’d mentioned not sleeping well since The Breakup, so maybe he was just catching up on sleep, but Adrien had enough experience with depression to know that it was time to step in and drag his flatmate out of bed.
He knocked on the door, but there was no response.
Taking a deep breath, he turned the knob and discovered it was unlocked.
“Luka, I’m going to be really mad if you’re actually dead,” Adrien grumbled, hesitantly pushing the door open. “Luka?”
Adrien blinked as he got his first glimpse at the inside of Luka’s bedroom.
It was even worse than the rest of the apartment, and that was saying something. Garbage and dirty clothes were strewn everywhere, and the floor was like a minefield of filth.
“Oh, Luka,” Adrien cooed, carefully making his way across the room to the bed. “You’re really hurting, aren’t you?”
Luka snored softly, deaf to Adrien’s sympathy.
“Orpheus.” Adrien kept his voice quiet as he gently shook Luka’s shoulder, not wanting to startle his friend. “Luka? Hey. Wake up.”
Luka drew in a long breath, and his eyes slowly blinked open.
He stared up at Adrien in a daze.
“Angel,” he whispered, reaching out to stroke Adrien’s cheek.
Adrien was torn between enjoying the attention immensely and feeling guilty about it because Luka was obviously still out of it.
“You are not awake,” Adrien chuckled, carefully removing Luka’s palm from his face. “Earth to Luka. Come in, Luka.”
Luka gave a jolt as he blinked and his eyes came into focus. “Oh my gosh. Adrien. Sorry. Hi. What’s wrong? Did you need something?”
“It’s breakfast time. Get up,” Adrien teased, tugging on Luka’s arm lightly.
Luka cursed under his breath. “I am so sorry. Give me just a minute and I’ll go to the grocery store and then make you some breakfast.”
Adrien snorted in laughter. “No need. It is I who have made you breakfast. Come eat before it gets cold.”
Luka blinked at Adrien. “You what?”
“I made omuraisu,” Adrien explained with a pleased smile.
“You what?” Luka repeated, wondering if his ears were failing him.
His Adrien didn’t cook.
“I’m twenty-four,” Adrien enunciated. “I make my own breakfast. Now, get up or I’m seriously climbing in bed with you and pushing you out.”
“…You made breakfast?” Luka echoed in disbelief as he followed Adrien toward the door.
“Yep,” Adrien confirmed with a pop to the p. “I’ve worked in a lot of kitchens these past few years. The chefs taught me some things.”
They stepped out into the living room, and Luka had to do a doubletake. “Faeries came during the night and cleaned the apartment.”
Adrien cracked up. “I mean…it’s not like this is the first time someone’s ever called me a faerie, but…I prefer the term ‘knight in leather armor’.”
Luka gawked at Adrien. “You cleaned the apartment?”
His Adrien wouldn’t know what to do with a broom if his life depended on it…unless he needed to use the broom as a weapon. His Adrien had that covered, but to use a broom for its intended purpose…
Adrien came to a stop in the kitchen, pushing one of the plates of omuraisu towards Luka.
“Surprise,” he announced softly, a sad expression in his eyes that made him look older than Luka had ever remembered. “I’m a functional, responsible adult now too.”
“Yeah,” Luka breathed, looking at Adrien with new eyes. “You went and grew up on me, didn’t you?”
He pulled Adrien into a tight hug, and Adrien squeezed back.
“I had to get it together pretty quickly,” Adrien confessed bitterly. “I cook, clean, do laundry… I even scrub toilets now.”
Luka pulled back, looking mortified. “Please tell me you didn’t clean the bathroom.”
“It wasn’t that bad,” Adrien assured.
Luka dropped his forehead to Adrien’s shoulder and let out an animalistic groan. “I am so, so sorry. I swear I was going to clean everything today.”
“I know. I believed you when you kept telling me so last night,” Adrien informed. “It was just that you were completely wiped out, and I saw an opportunity to be helpful.”
Adrien took Luka’s face in his hands and tipped it up to look him in the eye. “This isn’t like before when I’d sneak out and come visit you when I was upset. I may still be a mess, but you’re a wreck too at the moment, and, now, I’m able to help and support you too.”
“Don’t sound so pleased about me being a disaster,” Luka chuckled, horrified and amused all at once.
“I promise I’m not. I’m just glad that I can finally do something for you after all you’ve done for me.” Adrien gave Luka a sincere smile and then stepped back to focus on his food. “Eat your breakfast already.”
Luka sighed, resigning himself to this alternate universe where his Adrien was fully capable of taking care of himself.
“Thank you,” he stressed, digging into the omuraisu. “…Geez, this is good!”
Adrien smirked around his fork. “Told you so.”
“What else can you make?” Luka wondered through a mouthful of rice and egg.
“I specialize in ethnic food,” Adrien preened. “I do desserts passably too, so maybe tomorrow I can make tiramisu and chickpea coconut cashew curry.”
Luka bit his tongue to stop himself from confessing his eternal love to Adrien because it was way too soon after The Breakup to be developing feelings for anyone. Besides, Adrien was vulnerable; Luka would be taking advantage of Adrien’s dependency on him if he made any kind of move.
He never wanted Adrien to feel pressured into anything for fear of winding up back on the street again.
Instead of the declaration of love, Luka smiled gratefully. “I’m really, really glad you came back into my life yesterday.”
Adrien paused, looking taken aback for a moment, his fork pausing halfway to his mouth. “You like curry that much?”
“It’s not just about the curry,” Luka chuckled. “Thank you for all of this.”
“Sure.” Adrien returned the smile with a grin full of pride. “I’m not even done yet. I still have your room to clean.”
“No,” Luka groaned. “I can clean my own room.”
“I’m sure you can, but I’m going to help you,” Adrien informed in a tone that told Luka he would not be backing down. “You can tell me what you don’t want me touching, but I can at least help sort the trash from the dirty clothes from the dishes from the stuff that just needs to be put away.”
“I will consider letting you help,” Luka conceded through gritted teeth.
“Perfect!” Adrien chirped cheerily. “…So, I didn’t start any laundry yet because I wasn’t sure what your preferences were, but this evening after we sort through the stuff in your room, you can tell me how you want your laundry done, and I can work on that while you hide your dirty magazines or whatever.”
Luka rolled his eyes. He was pretty sure that Adrien remembered that Luka was demi and didn’t experience sexual attraction unless he had a strong emotional connection with someone and, therefore, had no need for dirty magazines. They’d talked a lot about sexuality when Adrien was sixteen/seventeen and trying to figure things out. Adrien didn’t have trusted adults to talk to, and Luka was actually really honored that Adrien had come to him.
“I will consider letting you help with laundry,” Luka repeated with a shake of his head.
“Great. So…status update,” Adrien prattled right along, leaning his forearms on the counter as he consumed his omuraisu. “I gathered all the trash and piled it up in bags by the door because I didn’t know what the building’s trash collection procedure was.”
“We can take it down to the dumpster on our way out the door to band practice,” Luka replied.
“Cool.” Adrien nodded, taking in the information. “I also piled all the clothing articles in two heaps over by the couch….” He hesitated, biting his bottom lip. “…Not all of the clothes are yours. I can wash them and fold them up in a trash bag so you don’t have to see them, if you’d like.”
Luka winced. “…I don’t know right now. Sorry.”
“That’s okay,” Adrien rushed to assure. “I’ll just go ahead and do that, and then you can deal with them whenever you’re ready.”
“I really hope there wasn’t anything too embarrassing,” Luka groaned.
Adrien grimaced. “You both have impeccable taste in underwear?”
“I want to die,” Luka replied with an ironic smile.
“It seriously wasn’t a big deal,” Adrien stressed. “…Though, I wasn’t able to determine as easily what was yours as far as possessions go, so I just lined them up neatly against the wall out of the way. I hope that was okay? You don’t have to go through them anytime soon. They can just wait until you’re ready.”
Luka reached out and rested a hand on Adrien’s bicep. “Thank you.”
Adrien placed his hand over Luka’s and smiled. “What are friends for?”
“For times like this,” Luka hummed, feeling blessed.
There was a beat, and then Adrien went back to his status update. “I cleaned out the fridge and went shopping for the essentials, but we’ll need to shop again tonight or tomorrow for the rest of the week. Also, I bought a cheap rice cooker. I hope that’s okay. I had a rice cooker up until a few months ago, and I used to cook all kinds of things in it. I can do a lot with a rice cooker.”
Luka grinned, watching Adrien fondly as he animatedly recounted his rice cooker culinary adventures.
Adrien had slipped so easily into Luka’s life, making himself indispensable in less than twenty-four hours. It left Luka wondering what he’d been doing without Adrien for the past four years.
“Émile!” Josie cried, sprinting across the bar and enveloping Adrien in a fierce hug.
Luka, smiling fondly, stepped around them and went over to get the things he’d left with Jacob the previous day from the bassist. “Glad to know I mean nothing to you, Josie.”
Josie ignored Luka, focusing all of her enthusiasm on Adrien. “Look at you! You clean up nice, Kid! Look at your little baby face! You are the cutest thing. I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too, Josie,” Adrien chuckled, hugging her back with genuine affection.
Luka couldn’t stop grinning because Adrien was adorable. He got attached to people so quickly.
Jacob looked back and forth between Luka and Adrien and quirked an eyebrow quizzically. “You two came together?” he whispered so only Luka would hear.
“He’s actually my roommate now,” Luka confessed, wanting to get this conversation over sooner rather than later.
Jacob’s eyes bugged out. “Dude. You work fast,” he hissed. “You’re already shacked up?”
“No.” Luka winced. “It’s not like that. It’s completely platonic. He just needed a place to stay.”
Jacob nodded, not believing that for a second. “Right.”
“Émile!” Marc greeted, leaving his guitar propped against his keyboard on stage to go give Adrien a hug. “Hey, Kiddo. I did get your text with your phone number. Sorry I didn’t text back. I read it right away, but I was in the middle of burning food, and I completely forgot.”
“No worries,” Adrien assured, returning the hug and absolutely loving it. “So long as you got the message.”
Luka promptly shoved down the little niggling of jealousy that sprouted up at seeing Adrien being affectionate with another guy.
Josie quickly distracted him as she came over and hung off of his shoulder. “You don’t look like crap today.”
“Thank you?” Luka frowned, trying to decide whether to be insulted.
“He said Émile needed a place to stay, so he moved in with him yesterday,” Jacob reported, looking at Josie expectantly.
Josie’s eyes went wide. “Wow. Very opportunist. You get any yet?”
Luka swatted her away. “It’s platonic. I just broke up with The Girl, guys. I am not jumping into anything for a very long time.”
“Are you trying to say that my baby brother isn’t good enough for you to seduce?” Josie snorted, doing a very good job of actually looking offended.
Luka threw his hands up in frustration. “You know, I was having a good day until I had to deal with you two clowns.”
“Émile!” Jacob waved as Adrien and Marc came over to join them. “Sup, Kid?” He opened his arms for a hug which Adrien readily gave.
“Hey, Jacob.” Adrien smiled nervously as he pulled back, reaching up to rub at his neck. “I actually have something I need to tell everyone.”
The band’s expressions suddenly went serious.
“What’s up, Émile?” Josie prompted gently.
Adrien took a deep breath. “That isn’t actually my real name.”
Luka’s eyes widened, and he reached out to rest a hand on Adrien’s shoulder. “You sure you’re ready to do this now?”
Adrien nodded. “Yeah. They’ve shown me nothing but kindness. I don’t want to lie to them.”
“Is your real name ‘Adrien’?” Marc inquired.
Everyone looked to him in surprise.
Adrien blinked. “You knew?”
Josie and Jacob turned to Marc with twin frowns.
“How’d you know that?” Jacob demanded.
Marc shook his head. “I wasn’t sure. I just thought you kind of looked like the billboards I used to see all the time.”
“Billboards?” Josie echoed, arching an eyebrow.
“My name is really Adrien,” Adrien confessed. “Adrien Agreste.”
Jacob blinked. “That…sounds familiar?”
“I used to be a model,” Adrien elaborated. “Especially about ten years ago my face was on everything. You couldn’t get away from the advertisements if you tried…. I’m also known more notoriously as Gabriel Agreste’s son,” Adrien informed, gaze directed intently down at his shoes. “You know. Papillon.”
Jacob promptly pushed Luka out of the way and wrapped his arms around Adrien, announcing, “Just so you all know, this is mine now.”
“I don’t think so,” Josie huffed, coming to join the puppy pile. “I saw him first, but if I get caught when I sneak into jail to assassinate his father, you’d sure as hell better take care of him for me.”
She turned to Adrien (who looked very, very confused).
“You’re adopted,” she declared, her voice just on the right side of calm even as it came out clipped and furious. “There’s no way you’re actually related to that slimewad. He akumatized my little sister when she was being bullied, and there is no way you’re related to him. Besides, like I keep saying, we are officially adopting you now.”
Marc reached out a hand to rest on Adrien’s shoulder. “We’re here for you. Promise.”
“People…don’t usually react like that,” Adrien hiccupped. “They usually want nothing to do with me when they find out who I am.”
“People suck,” Jacob reported. “Obviously, they didn’t put much effort into finding out who you really are because, if they had, they would have discovered that you’re a precious baby who deserves to be loved and protected.”
Adrien turned to Luka with a watery smile. “You pick good people.”
Luka grinned. “I picked you, didn’t I?”
The whole group besides Adrien groaned.
Adrien only smiled.
“…So why ‘Émile Dupain’?” Josie inquired as they slowly pulled away.
“‘Émile’ is actually my second name,” Adrien explained. “I was named after my mom.”
Everyone nodded, making cooing, “that’s so sweet” noises.
“‘Dupain’ I stole from a friend,” he confessed with a blush that made Luka narrow his eyes. “It was the most common surname out of all of my friends, so… Plus, it was like taking a little piece of home with me while I roamed around.”
They all cooed again.
“Wait. Hold up.” Jacob turned and pointed to Luka just as the conversation was about to shift. “He’s not surprised about any of this. Did you tell him already yesterday?”
Adrien bit his lip, smiling guiltily. “I’ve known Luka for about a decade now, actually. I didn’t recognize him yesterday until we were outside on the street, though. He still had blue hair when I last saw him.”
“Man, I dated him when he had the blue hair,” Jacob sighed, shaking his head. “I wouldn’t have let him go so easily if I had known the black hair upgrade was coming.”
“Hey,” Luka grumbled. “I looked good with blue hair. It went with my eyes.”
“I actually think the black offsets your eyes better,” Adrien hummed thoughtfully. “The black makes the blue pop. I like it like this.”
Luka’s brain broke. “O-Oh? You think so?”
Marc put a hand over his mouth, holding in a laugh. “He’s never going to dye his hair again.”
Josie opened her mouth to quip, but then she caught the soft, warm, gooey way Luka was looking at Adrien.
She sucked in a sharp breath. “Holy crap! He’s Adrien!”
Adrien gave a start, suddenly very worried. “Uh…yes? I thought…that was okay?”
She waved her arms, shooing away his concerns. “No. The thing with your father is fine. I meant that you’re Adrien. Luka’s Adrien!”
Jacob’s jaw dropped. “He’s The Boy!?”
Adrien looked to Luka for reassurance, quite obviously anxious at something he had no way of understanding.
Luka grimaced and wrapped a comforting arm around Adrien’s shoulders. “Yes,” he said pointedly. “He’s the dear friend I’ve mentioned many times to you.”
Jacob scoffed under his breath at that.
Marc decided to stay out of it.
“I really was worried about you while you were away,” Luka explained to Adrien. “I may have been a little preoccupied.”
Slowly, Adrien began to nod, thinking he understood. “Sorry again for worrying you.”
“He survived,” Marc assured, beckoning Adrien over to the stage. “He was a real mess for a while, though.”
Josie hung back, giving Luka a skeptical look. “You moved in with The Boy a week after breaking up with The Girl?”
Luka shrugged helplessly. “It’s platonic.”
“You make questionable life decisions,” Jacob snorted. “You’re screwed.”
“He’s going to wish he were,” Josie sighed. “Does your sister know that you’ve set yourself up for total emotional annihilation by platonically moving in with The Boy a week after your breakup with The Girl?”
“Adrien isn’t ready to tell people he’s back in Paris yet, so don’t you dare say anything to Juleka,” Luka growled protectively, getting his friends’ attention.
They shared a look and then held their hands up in surrender.
“We’re just worried about you, Dude,” Jacob clarified sympathetically.
Luka sighed, all the hot air coming out of him. “I’m kind of worried about me too,” he confessed.

Batboys and Marinette
Meeting Tim next.
My long time rival, the person I hate but still love is back. My elder sister was gone for a week and now she's back. Ughhhh.
Lets not gush about that.
This is the new chapter . I was so invested in writing it I just forgot to write the other book. Nevermind.
Enjoy:)
________________________________________________________________
When they landed, Penny woke her up,"Five minutes more."She groaned.
Penny giggled."If I gave you five more minutes the plane is going to fly away with you."
She opened one eye and saw Penny sitting beside her. A few words moved through her mind as she took in the location she was in 'Plane' 'Penny' 'Gotham' and 'SHIT'. She stood up quickly, embarrassed. Her cheeks had turned red. Oh God. She halfheartedly glared at Penny who just giggled and they both exited the plane together with Jagged and Fang of course. Many scents filled her nose. They were all so sad, angry or unhappy. If there was any of them which was happy, she couldn't make it out. They went towards a big and fancy (classical rock-n-roll) car. She shook her head fondly. They got inside the car.
They reached the hotel 'Wayne hotel'. She will ask her uncle what this Wayne is later. They walk in. Her hand itched to draw something. She had seen 5 star hotels before. But this is different, more Gothic styled. Jagged talked to the receptionist and then they all went inside. They went inside the elevator to all the way up to the 11th floor. Seriously why does their room have to be so far anyway? When they reached their room, she immediately pulled out her sketchbook and jolted down the ideas.
"About your school Marinette. You will attend Gotham Academy. Tomorrow is your first day-"Penny cut Jagged mid-sentence."We understand it will be a lot of pressure for you to handle. So, I think you can skip tomorrow."
"No Penny I am going to be fine."Penny smiled,"You know you can tell us if you want something okay?"
"Yes Aunt Penny."Marinette giggled.
"The next room is ours. You can come if you have any nightmares."
"Penny!"
Then they left her room. She decided to take a nap. When she woke up it was afternoon. Not wanting to go downstairs. She called room service. She ate her lunch and opened her website. 'Might as well do some work.' She scrolled down the requests to find a commission request from  Timothy Drake, Co-ceo of Wayne enterprises.'What is this Wayne?'
She knocked on Penny and Jagged's door. Penny opened the door and let her in.
"What do you need Marinette?"Penny asked smiling.
"Actually I wanted to ask What is Wayne?"This caught the attention of Jagged.
"Waynes are the richest family of Gotham Marinette."Jagged said.
Marinette's eyes widened,"I just got a commission request from the Co-CEO of Wayne enterprises.
"Congratulations Marinette."Penny said clapping her hands together.
"But How am I going to do this? What if he didn't like my designs? What if I-"
Penny effectively cut her off by putting a finger on her lips.
"This is not rock-n-roll Marinette. Don't underestimate yourself. You are the most rock-n-roll designer and you are my niece."
"Jagged is right Marinette. Have faith in yourself. I've heard that the Co-CEO is your age too. You just need to act normal. You can gain a new friend."
"Thank you Penny,Jagged."
"You're welcome Marinette."
She went to her room almost bouncing on her toes. She quickly replied to Timothy Drake.

She looked at the time. 'I can read everything about Gotham. I can't go out without precautions.' The ting of her phone startled her. It was a message from Timothy.

Marinette giggled he looks very excited to meet her. She looked at the clock 2:45 pm. She could meet with him right now. She hasn't been out since they landed. She knocked at Jagged and Penny's door. This time Jagged was the one who opened the door."Yes, Marinette?"
"Can I meet up with him now? I mean I am getting bored inside anyway."
Penny came and said,"Gotham is dangerous city Marinette. We can't let you go alone."
Marinette hummed and said,"I can ask him to come here, then you can meet him too."
"Of course, we can manage that."Penny also nodded.
She went to her room and called the number.

"Hello is this Timothy Drake."
"Yes this is Timothy Drake. May I have your name."
"I am MDC from MDC designs-" There was a sound on the other side that sounded like a mug hitting the floor.
"Oh MDC, I-I am sorry." Marinette Giggled at that.
"Its okay, Monsieur Drake. I am calling you to say that I am free. We can meet up in an hour but can you come pick me up. My uncle and Aunt doesn't want to let me go alone. And we just landed about 12 hours ago. Only if that's okay for you."
"Of course. I can come pick you up at 4 just tell me which hotel you are staying at?"
"Umm, Wayne Hotel. So see you in an hour."
"Goodbye."

She stood up, stretched and started to get ready. She chose a black tank top and shorts. She pulled her hair in pigtails and wore black shoes. Then she readied everything.
       Measuring tape, check
Cookies for Tikki, check
My Phone, check
After checking everything, she checked the time and took sunglasses. She doesn't want anyone to see her face. Maybe she can tell him to not call me MDC. She knocked on the next door.
"Come in."She went in.
"Jagged, Penny, he is going to be here in 5 minutes. Should I tell him my name or not?"Jagged wanted to say something, but Penny beat him to it.
"That's up to you, Marinette."Penny said whilst typing on computer.
"Okay Uncle Jagged. I think if I felt comfortable, I am going to tell him."
She took the elevators and went down. Just as she exited a boy about her age in a suit walked to the receptionist.
"I am sorry Mr. Drake but I don't know whose name is MDC."The boy looked very confused.
She walked to him and tapped his shoulder,"Are you Monsieur Drake?"
He said,"I almost panicked that I heard the hotel name wrong."
She giggled."My identity is a secret. Let's go meet Uncle and Aunty."
"Okay."He said. She grabbed his hand gently and smiled at him. His scent was very sweet like coffee? and he was an Alpha. She then led him to the elevator. If she had turned to see him, she would have seen the blush on his face as he looked at their interlocked hands.
When they reached the door she knocked on it. A muffled come in was heard. She opened the door and led him inside. He froze. Her uncle and aunty were Jagged stone and Penny rolling? He can tell that they were real when he saw a very familiar crocodile coming to him and sniffing him.
"Ah! you must be Timothy Drake. I am Jagged Stone." Jagged stood in front of him. His scent was very cheerful.
"I-I am T-Tim. Umm."He cleared his throat."Its an honor to meet you Mr. Stone I am a very big fan of yours."He finally managed to say.
"Hello Tim, I am Penny Rolling, his assistant."
"Its really an honor to meet you. Am I hallucinating?"The last part was muttered to himself.
"Now that you have met him and even Fang has approved. Can I go?"Marinette said.
"Of course. Take your measurements in your room and-"He turned to Tim"If you tried anything funny I will make Fang eat you."
"Yes sir."
Then they went to her room. She tossed her sunglasses aside and held out her hand,"Hello I am Marinette." He shook it,"Tim. Can I call you Nettie."
"Of course." She finally looked at him carefully. She had to admit he was very handsome and his blue eyes were beautiful. He even smelled like COFFEE! Why is he not energized though? He had deep bags under his eyes. Rarely sleeps then.
He looked at her face carefully. She had black hair and pale skin. Freckles dusted on her nose and cheek bones. Her bluebell eyes she is going to be the death of him. Who knew his favorite designer will be so beautiful?
SNEAK PEEK
They just stared into each others eyes for some time. Marinette broke first. She grabbed his arm and made him sit on her bed..........
