Small Rant About RE
Hello gang... This has been on my mind for awhile. Today we're talking about Resident Evil and particularly Leon stans. Now I'm gonna come out and say I am one of them! I love that silly little blonde man and he's like number 1 on my favorite capcom white boy tier list next to Cody from Final Fight/SF.
tw: mentions of rape, pedophilia, incest, abuse, and my opinion
Let me make it clear, I'm not kink shaming, I'm not advocating for censorship. Art and literature shouldn't be censored. Sex is cool. Kink is cool (when safe and consensual).
I'm gonna be one of those fans real quick and say, I've been an RE fan since I was like 7. That doesn't really mean much since I can't drink legally but I've been in love with Leon since elementary school. I watched my Dad and brother play RE6 co-op and man... Aka I've been in the fandom for a fat minute. Before the RE2 remake came out I'd see the occasional Dead Dove fic but that's whatever. But I have never seen this much dark romance about Leon of all people!
Like. Call it the T-Virus the way it's everywhere I swear I can't scroll down the damn tag without getting hit with a sexual crime. And let me say, I'm not new to fandom culture. I take don't like don't read to heart (I'm super picky LMAO). And I understand that, that's just how big fandoms are, more people, more bad eggs. I'm sure the majority of y'all are sweet people.
BUT I feel like I shouldn't have to say that romanticizing things like pedophilia, rape, abuse, and incest is disgusting in the big year 2025 but here we are. Honestly, I feel this way about a lot of the fics of other fandoms I'm in. I feel crazy seeing it everywhere and it makes me feel like some sort of sexual puritan. Am I insane for wanting freaky smut and not ...freaky smut??
There for sure is a bigger conversation here about how easily accessible porn is and how quick people to fall into these pipelines. Or how booktok caused a rise in the normalization of dark romance troupes and just pure porn writing (I still hate icebreaker). Or how quick form constant content is slowly leaking it's way into everything. But we’d be here for forever…
And like, it's just completely out of character?? Like if you're gonna write about that can it at least be in character? Wesker fits the dark romance thing LEAGUES better. But LEON?? THE POLICE OFFICER?? Did you even watch a walkthrough? Leon is a sweet upstanding guy with lots of trauma, that is the last thing he'd do to ANYONE! Not saying fics have to be completely accurate all the time but there's literally nothing fun about "Omg what if Leon RAPED you!?" HES NOT THE EVIL RESIDENT HERE GUYS! At some point it's not even about Leon (or whoever the fic is about) anymore, it's just someone wanting to share their sexual fantasies online.
These topics are almost never written with any care and are insanely insensitive to the survivors of these acts. I don't know, sexual crimes are literally some of the most deplorable acts of hatred and depravity someone can do onto another person. I can't imagine getting off to the suffering of others (in a heinous crime way not BDSM way) (BDSM is cool). Have some fucking empathy and stop thinking with your goon wad guys <3
Like at least take it to AO3 so that I can filter it out or smth...
Edit: I just woke up and remembered what else I was gonna say.
You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat their fictional characters. Another thing I don’t like are the Gooner mods for the games. Like they’re fun every once in a while and like if it’s a capcom game you have to expect it. At some point though, it just stops being sexy and feels gross or uncomfortable.
Idk maybe I’m in the minority here but there has never been a single time where I was playing any RE game and thought to myself, “man… I wish I could see Leon’s end rod whipping in the wind rn…” Obviously, I wanna see that man oiled up butt booty naked doing jumping jacks like as most normal people do but… zawg…
That’s also like an actual person?? At least for the remakes. Maybe this just isn’t my dove to eat but the treat Leon like some sort doll. I know it’s kinda weak to be like this for a fictional person but yeah </3

I've cropped out the username because I have absolutely no desire to start drama or make a personal “callout” or have people go harass someone or anything like that (and if you take this kind of thing as an opportunity to go and be horrible to another Tumblr user then that is terrible and you should stop), but wow, I have never seen such a clanging example of amatonormativity. I don't think OP necessarily meant it this way, I don't think they meant any harm, I don't think they're consciously arophobic or something - it's far more likely that they're simply unfamiliar with aspec issues, and I always prefer to assume good faith - but I want to talk about this post anyway because it provides a really good and explicit example of the way society just sort of... asserts the centrality of romantic attraction and entirely forgets aromantic people exist.
I do want to first say that I actually agree with the initial point this post is making. Romance as a genre is unfairly derided as some kind of “lesser” form of art, and this derision very frequently comes with generous helpings of misogyny. I totally agree that romance is not at all an unintellectual or superficial thing to write about, and it's bad that it gets treated that way and that readers and writers of romance get so often mocked and condemned. Romance is a totally valid genre and enjoying it doesn't make you vain or stupid or superficial.
HOWEVER. As an aromantic person I find the rest of the post just... I don't know, it's just so perfect as a probably unwitting expression of baked-in cultural amatonormativity. It's brilliant. It's so funny to me. I can almost do a line-by-line breakdown of the way it so completely forgets the existence of aromantic people. In fact, let's do that.
It is so fundamental to us. The issue here should be pretty obvious. The assumption that romance is some integral part of The Human Experience and that it's fundamental to All People is pretty much amatonormativity 101. It reinforces the idea that people who don't experience romantic attraction are “lacking”, forever sitting apart from The Human Experience, and possibly in some way not quite fully human, since we don't experience the thing that is apparently so fundamental to humans.
To want to love and be loved. The post seems to be incorrectly equating “romance” with “loving and being loved”, when in fact there are many people who don't experience romantic attraction yet absolutely love and want to be loved. (And of course loveless aros, aplatonic people, various folks who don't “want to love and be loved” also exist, and it's important to emphasise that this desire, just like romantic attraction, is also not necessarily integral to all people.) “Love” is not automatically “romantic love”, but this post seems to imply that romance is the only, or default, form in which love can exist.
If you don't think every great work of literature. philosophy. metaphysics. was ultimately about romance. I don't think you were paying enough attention. OK this is the line that elevated this post from “sigh, more casual amatonormativity to scroll past” to “I just have to respond to this”. Where to even begin with this assertion. This is a level of “assuming romance is central to everything humans ever do and ever create” that I've almost never encountered before. It feels like a manifestation of the tendency for alloromantic people to declare that, because romance is very central for them, it is thus central to Everything. And I'm homing in on “romance” because the post doesn't say “ultimately about love” - which would still be a reach, but less of a reach - it specifically says “ultimately about romance”. As an aromantic person who is an academic at heart and highly educated in the humanities and social sciences, the idea that my ability to understand literature and philosophy and metaphysics is somehow greatly hampered by the fact that I don't experience or relate to romantic attraction is just... what??? This idea is really very funny to me but also genuinely pretty insulting, even though I'm sure it wasn't meant that way. Not only does it feel like the summation of every patronising “oh, you couldn't possibly understand” directed to aromantic adults who are, in fact, entirely capable of understanding, but it also flattens the incredible breadth of human intellectual experience into “being about romance”. I sometimes find myself wishing that alloromantic people would peak outside the bubble of amatonormativity and realise that actually, there is an enormous swathe of human experience and intellect and creativity and expression that has nothing at all to do with romantic attraction and romantic relationships. And no, stating that, I don't know, the Book of Job is not actually about romance has nothing to do with our society's misogynistic denigration of romance as a genre; it has everything to do with the fact that the Book of Job is not actually about romance. (And if you aren't familiar with Job or for some reason don't consider it a “great work of literature”, replace with whatever other example you can think of; there are many.) It's insulting to imply that aro-spec and/or ace-spec people are somehow less able to participate in art and literature and philosophy etc because we might bring a perspective that doesn't include romance or sex at all and we're just not capable of understanding that Actually Romance And/Or Sex Is Central To Everything. It's genuinely absurd to argue that all the pinnacles of human intellectual achievement really, at their core, come back to romance, and it speaks to our very blinkered society's tendency to declare things like “everything is really about sex” or “everything is really about romance” or “everything is really about breakups” or whatever and then look at aro-spec and ace-spec people like we're aliens and go “but like... how do you even live?” Newsflash, there is so much more to life than romance and love and sex. You can live an entire, very fulfilling, very meaningful, very thoughtful life without these things being at all relevant to you. That's not to dismiss those things as minor or unimportant - they are indeed very central to a lot of people's lives, and they're not “dumb” or “shallow” or whatever - but they're not central to everyone's lives, and they're hardly The Only Things In The World.
And if your response is something along the lines of “well OK there's a tiny minority of people who don't engage with romance and/or sex, or relate to it in the same way most people do, but that doesn't mean that romance isn't still at the core of humanity, or that all the most important things don't still have romance at their heart”, imagine telling a woman that “well, you can focus on a career if you want, but what's really fundamental to being a woman is being a wife and mother - in fact, motherhood is the most important thing in the world, it's fundamental to women, it's what all women's literature is about”. Or, hell, telling a person of any gender that “parenthood” is the central pillar of all of humanity and that every great work of art ever produced is ultimately about parenthood and obviously parenthood is fundamental to everyone's being - forgetting that actually some people will never be parents, and implying that their childlessness makes them less able to understand The Human Experience. That might give you some small idea of what it's like to be an aspec person and be repeatedly told that feelings you don't experience and relationships you don't have and attractions you don't relate to and acts you don't engage in are somehow Fundamental To Humanity and are what lie at The Core Of Everything: how excluding that is, how alienating that is, how oppressively stifling that is.
Feeling that love and/or romance and/or sex are very important to your own life is totally valid, but I wish alloromantics and allosexuals could be more capable of opening their minds and imagining and empathising with an existence for which these things aren't central. Our lives aren't lesser, or emptier, or sadder, or shallower for lack of romance or sex. Our experiences are part of The Human Experience. Our perspectives on art and life and relationships and philosophy and humanity and everything else are just as valid. We are just as capable of profundity, of creativity, of insight - because romance and sex aren't “at the core” of any of these things. We are here, and we're tired of being forgotten, ignored, sidelined, dismissed, erased, talked over, talked past. It would be great if society at large actually remembered we exist once in a while, and that our lives are just as beautiful and important as anyone else's.

Hi friend!! I've been following you on a couple platforms when it comes to your amazing art!! I know you've talked about ghostprice, but I saw the Price's hand on the back of Kyle's neck and was wondering if you could talk about the relationship between price and gaz? I loved the ghost price one, but I totally understand if you don't have the same write up for these two lol
!!! thank you so much for this ask, because i love thinking about this dynamic in my free time.
lots of reading under the cut!
so, because I like to cherry-pick influences from canon, in the monster au, Gaz and Price met before Gaz got drafted into the 141. Gaz was the harpy escort to a standard military op that got off-track when doing recon, and ended up wrapped up in a territorial dispute with two griffin hybrids. The whole team got stuck sandwiched between the two with neither side willing to let them move, and when Gaz tried to fly above to do some surveillance he got beaten out of the sky by both of them (they don't take kindly to interlopers interfering with griffin disputes). They had to request emergency assistance from the closest party which, by chance, happened to be Price's team.
This all happened after Price lost his wing, and on this mission he collaborated with Gaz to help get (most of) his team out safely without having to rely on his skill of flight. They both made strong impressions on each other then, with Gaz forming the first seeds of a long-term loyalty to Price. When his contract with his current station ended, he was all too happy to get poached for the 141.
Coming from a more interpersonal perspective - Gaz is a harpy, which means he's fiercely independent and bases a lot of his identity on not being reliant on anyone. Price is a dragon, which comes with a lot of pesky hoard instincts that instruct him to 'provide' for his hoard. It means that Gaz dislikes being taken care of and a strong instinctual part of Price is unhappy about that. When they're more intimate, Gaz insists on giving as much as he is getting (if not more) and is always seeking ways to contribute and prove his value to the group. Even though he might be chill by harpy standards, Gaz is still very proud and he gets flustered when forced to accept things without 'earning' it.
(also he might have a little bit of hero worship for price lingering in the recesses of his mind)
Price only having one wing and being essentially grounded also adds an extra layer to their relationship. Harpies put a lot of stock in their flying prowess, so the loss of a wing is truly a world-ending event in their culture and he's extremely uncomfortable broaching the subject with Price even though he'd be happy to talk about it if pushed. He also feels that it is his role to be Price's 'wings' now, which is a sentiment that he hasn't shared to anyone but puts a lot of pressure on himself to live up to. He doesn't think this way out of any sort of pity for Price - his captain has proved time and time again to be the kind of monster worth following - instead, this mentality is him militantly breaking himself down to how useful/valuable he can be to others.
tldr; gaz is bad at accepting care, price wants to take care of him so bad and is slowly figuring out loopholes
#their relationship together is affectionate but still sort of surface level at this point#not that price isnt trying#gaz is just very proud#askbox#pricegaz

PSA - PLEASE be wary about that AI generated Klance piece going around. It genuinely sucks that that image got so much traction. I don't think people have realised because the tags here get hidden, but the 'artist' has tagged it as ai assisted. All but two pieces in their gallery on twt is a mockery of the true art op is actually capable of.
This artist genuinely draws wonderfully but gave in to ai slop. Please check the tags of what you're reblogging and liking, AI works are a serious drag: it's got environmental issues and it's art theft. (Poster mentioned in tags)
I hate the idea of a call out post, but we absolutely do NOT need AI in fandom. I don't care if this is considered rude or unkind. Understand how this impacts so many people.
Don't harass the poster - just unlike, unfollow, unreblog and block them before moving on.
To the poster: your traditional art is LOVELY! I can't understand why you put your wips into a generator, it changes it completely, it takes away everything that's youand turns into into someone else piece. That someone else's style is stolen, and everything about this is lazy and unethical. You are literally better than this.
Please share this post as far as you can

summary: satoru and shoko cover up a crime scene
—
pure muscle memory drives suguru to call satoru to the village instead of the initial impulse to take the girls and run.
it is muscle memory to press 1 because satoru is on speed dial and suguru knows he will pick up before the second ring ends.
between that first and second ring, suguru contemplates pressing 2 for shoko before the line connects and satoru’s voice filters in through the speaker.
“stay there,” satoru says, his voice somber and calm despite what suguru just told him. “don’t move. i’ll be there in a second.”
it takes him more than a second but suguru doesn’t really notice the passage of time as he sits with the girls in the waiting shed outside the village.
satoru still hasn’t mastered long-distance teleportation so it takes him nearly an hour to get to the village. he spills from the driver’s seat, almost tripping on his feet, and suguru knows he drove way past the speed limit because there’s a dent at the front and on one of the doors of the bmw. he probably ran a lot of red lights on the way and broke a hundred different traffic rules, never mind the fact that neither of them has a driver’s license.
suguru stands from the waiting shed he and the girls have huddled under. he meets satoru’s horrified eyes at the sight of his blood-soaked school shirt, the splatters of crimson at the front of his pants, and the sounds of the too quiet village.
satoru doesn’t ask, ‘what have you done?’. he doesn’t say, ‘this is wrong’ or ‘we’re supposed to protect the weak and non-sorcerers’ or some other moralistic drivel and doesn’t condemn suguru for slaughtering a whole village.
instead, he drapes his coat over suguru, who didn’t realize he was shivering, and tugs him to where he has left the engine running of one of the school’s cars.
“i—”
“get in the car,” satoru says, his tone final and severe. “strap the kids in the back. we need to get back to the school. now.”
despite his harsh tone, satoru carefully ushers both the girls and suguru in the car. he is gentle when he lifts mimiko and nanako in the back seat, making sure their seat belts are secure, and he is gentle as he closes the door of the passenger seat for suguru.
satoru seats himself in the driver’s seat and the click of his seatbelt jolts suguru.
“seatbelt, suguru.”
“satoru, i—”
“it’s fine. everything is fine.” he takes suguru’s hands, which were clutching at the strap so hard his knuckles have turned white, prying them open gently and clicking the seatbelt in place for him. “just sit tight. i got you. i promise.”
satoru takes suguru’s cold trembling hands smeared in red and wipes it on his jacket. suguru’s eyes follow the motion. the dried blood is a dark crimson and it almost blends in the black of satoru’s gakuran but suguru could still clearly see the stain.
and then satoru does the unthinkable and brings suguru’s hands—his cold, trembling, blood-soaked, hands of a murderer—to his lips, placing gentle featherlight kisses on top of each.
suguru chokes on a sob and tries to snatch his hands away, but satoru grips him tight.
“everything will be fine. i promise.”
the drive back to tokyo is silent and suguru spent most of it in his head. he doesn’t know how long the drive has been or if satoru had sped the way he did coming to fetch him, but when he comes back to himself, they’re outside of one of jujutsu tech’s buildings and satoru is knocking gently on the passenger side window.
it’s already dark and the campus is dead silent. the twins are asleep in the back seat huddled under suguru’s uniform jacket and the reality of what he has done catches up to him.
‘oh, god. what have i done?’ he thinks as he feels bile creeping up the back of his throat. ‘i just killed a whole goddamn village and took two kids. oh, god. what am i going to do? what—’
another sharp rap against the car window snaps suguru out of his impending spiral. satoru gestures for him to open his car door and suguru does so with a shaking hand.
“hey, i told shoko to meet us at the infirmary,” satoru informs him in a low whisper. “you go and get the kids outta the car so she can check on them. i’ll scope the place for any lurkers.”
suguru does as he’s told almost robotically. he scoops mimiko and nanako in his arms, careful of their injuries and to not wake them up, before following quietly after satoru.
vaguely, he takes note of where satoru has parked the car, at the back of one of the buildings on the very edge of the campus where tengen’s barrier is not at its strongest.
whether it’s to avoid detection as much as possible or because it’s the building closest to the infirmary’s back door entrance, suguru isn’t sure, but he does know that satoru is coming very dangerously close to being complicit in his crimes.
they meet a grim looking shoko just outside the infirmary doors. her eyes are the usual exhausted half-lids whenever she’s on night shift. she doesn’t have a lit cigarette dangling from the corner of her lips and somehow that only drives into suguru just how fucked up things are right now.
“this isn’t what i had in mind when you told me there’s an emergency,” she says to satoru as she ushers suguru inside the infirmary and into the nearest examination table.
“well, what did you have in mind?”
“i don’t know. one of you bleeding or dead maybe.”
“well, no one’s bleeding or dead!” satoru grins, tone light and obviously fake. “isn’t this better?”
“i don’t know. you tell me.”
it isn’t until they’re under the blinding glare of the fluorescent light does suguru notice what shoko is wearing under her white doctor’s coat. she’s in her sleepwear instead of her jujutsu high uniform—which means she wasn’t on night-shift duty.
which means satoru had called shoko up in the middle of the night, she had come on her own to assist, and now they couldn’t pass off her involvement as shoko just coincidentally being on the night shift.
satoru is one thing, but now suguru’s gotten shoko in on it too.
suguru wants to hurl.
it was a simple exercising mission. the curse plaguing the village was a grade 2 level. how did suguru royally fucked up this bad? how had he badly fucked everything up for all of them?
shoko settles the twins on her examination table to check and heal their injuries. they startle awake when they feel her curse energy prodding at them, scrambling to get as far away as they can until their backs hit the wall, but eventually let her continue healing them when suguru assures them she’s a friend and they’re safe.
while she does that, satoru leads suguru back to the dorms and into their shared bathroom sink. he opens the tap and shoves suguru’s hands under the running water, one hand on suguru’s shoulder to steady him, the other helping to scrub the dried blood off his hands.
“suguru, listen. listen to me,” satoru lightly shakes him and only speaks again when suguru’s lifeless eyes meet his manic blue ones through the bathroom mirror. “don’t worry, we’re going to fix this. it’s fine.”
suguru looks at the pinkish water pooling on the sink, the crusted red under his nails, his blood-stained uniform, and hopelessly, desperately wants to believe him.
they make it back to the infirmary just as shoko closes the doors behind her. she tells them the twins will need to be treated for infection and malnutrition. they’re currently hooked on iv drips with antibiotics and will need to be observed for at least a week. for now, shoko has healed their injuries and has tucked them into her bed while they make sense of their situation.
shoko watches satoru and suguru who are both looking worse for wear. suguru with his bloodied uniform and satoru with his erratic cursed energy all over the place and his eyes looking a little crazed. the last time he saw them this fucked up was after that disastrous star plasma vessel mission. shoko doesn’t trust either of them to handle their next steps. good thing satoru already gave her a rough run-down of the day’s events.
man, she needs a smoke. scratch that. she needs a fucking blunt.
shoko heaves a deep sigh, closing her eyes and holding her breath for one to two beats before opening them at the exhale. there’s a glint in her exhausted eyes, the skin tight at the edges of them that makes it known to satoru that she already has a plan and all they have to do is follow it down to the minute details.
“okay. listen up,” shoko speakers, sounding the most serious they’ve ever heard her. “here’s what we’re gonna do.”
shoko lays out the plans and satoru has never been more grateful in his life that he’s managed to befriend one of jujutsu society’s medical prodigies.
—
shoko breaks three ribs and fractures one of suguru’s arms and makes sure to do so clumsily to make the x-ray and medical report believable.
she makes satoru hold him down before ramming her cursed energy-charged hand to suguru’s ribs, the sound of them cracking echoing sickeningly at the empty infirmary. suguru lurches forward, tears of pain prickling at the corner of his eyes. shoko doesn’t give him the chance to breathe before she grabs his arm and twists it, dislocating his shoulder with a pop! from its socket before bringing a heavy hand down on his forearm and breaking the bone in half.
the scream suguru lets out would’ve been blood-curdling had it not been for the rolled-up tea towel shoko had shoved in his mouth beforehand to bite into and muffle his screams. she knows both of her boys are tough with a pain tolerance built on two years of sparing and battling curses, but even satoru had winced when shoko had first striked suguru’s ribs and looked downright ready to hurl when he heard the sickening crack of sugurur’s arm.
all she says after the whole ordeal is a curt, “sorry.”
for having to injure him or for what suguru has had to endure leading up to this moment is anybody’s guess.
to which suguru, having spat out the towel, blood, and drool on the corner of his lips mixing in a puddle by his chin at the examination table and his breath comes out in low pants, answers with a strained but sincere, “thank you.”
shoko hums, brushing back suguru’s sweaty fringe of his face, her hand ending in a gentle caress on his cheek. suguru swallows down a sob and leans into the touch, a rare show of physical tenderness from the normally stoic member of their trio. shoko shows her softness in different ways but rarely ever in touch. it figures that a catastrophe of this magnitude would trigger it.
he looks at her and even in the haze of pain, suguru notes that she suddenly looks older than she is. they probably all do after tonight.
she rolls him into the x-ray room, taking shots of his broken bones as proof, before proceeding to heal his staged injuries. later, she’s going to fake an mri scan result that will show traces of head trauma, maybe throw in mild brain damage if they still have time.
while she makes a show of that, satoru goes back to the village and releases purple hollow, making sure to completely obliterate the whole site.
the higher-ups can send all the sorcerers they want to investigate the place. they can sweep it upside down for as long as they want but satoru is going to make sure they turn up with nothing. at least nothing that would disprove the mission report that would find its way on yaga’s desk before morning.
—
satoru comes back to the school and makes a beeline to the dorms and finds them in suguru’s room.
in the time satoru is gone, both of them have changed into their sleep attires—suguru out of his bloodied uniform and into a loose shirt and sweatpants while shoko dons a loose shirt that satoru is fairly sure is his and nothing else. suguru is sitting on the edge of his, hair still wet from his shower, head hung low and a towel slung over his neck. shoko is perched on the windowsill halfway through her cigarette and clutching a pack of marlboro reds. satoru doesn’t need the six-eyes to know it’s not her first stick since he left.
shoko looks up and sees satoru lingering on the threshold. “welcome back,” she greets with a small tired smile. “all done?”
“all done,” satoru confirms and makes a show of stretching his arms over his head as he yawns. “man, what a night, huh?”
“tell me about it,” shoko blew smoke one last time before stubbing her cigarette on the glass and flicking it outside the window. then she climbs on the bed behind suguru and takes the towel over his shoulder to dry his hair. “let’s sleep already. i’ll be on the night shift tomorrow so i’ll need all the sleep i could get.”
“scooch over then.” satoru sheds his uniform and moves to sit on suguru’s bed before shoko’s hand stops him. “hey! what gives!”
“no,” shoko pushes at satoru’s face to stop him from sitting on the bed. “take a shower and change first. we don’t want your outside filth on the sheets.”
“give me a break, woman! i just cleaned up a crime scene.”
suguru stays still and quiet amidst his friends’ exchange but flinches at satoru’s remark. shoko notices and stops her ministrations, pulling the towel off him.
“hey,” she calls, voice quiet as she gently tilts suguru’s face up to face her. “look at me.”
suguru does as he’s told if only because shoko’s hands are on either side of his face. all suguru can think of at the moment is how big and brown shoko’s eyes are and that her palms are warm and soft as she cradles his face.
hers are the hands of a healer. hers are the hands that fix. hers are the hands that give life. and tonight shoko used her hands to help the very antithesis of her. tonight, she holds in her hands a murderer and a criminal.
“don’t worry, we’re going to fix this. it’s fine,” she says echoing satoru’s exact words as she holds in her tender hands the broken half of jujutsu society’s supposed strongest. “everything is fine.”
no, it’s not, suguru wants to scream. nothing is fine. how can everything be fine? how can anything be fine? riko died under his watch. he was right there and he couldn’t save her. haibara is dead and nanami is devastated and alone. satoru keeps being sent out to special-grade missions all on his own and shoko can barely breathe with all the work and training she’s being put through as the next in line to head jujutsu tech’s medical branch. curses grow by the dozen and get stronger every day and everyone is dying and maybe tsukumo yuki is right about a world with no curses. maybe there is a way where only those with cursed energy could exist so his friends and loved ones could stop drying and they could all catch a fucking break and suguru quite literally just snapped and obliterated a village and made his best friends accessories to his crime so how is anything going to fine?!
but shoko’s hands are warm and soft as she holds him and keeps him from falling apart and he can feel satoru’s steady grounding presence by his side. his chest feels so heavy and there’s a persistent lump bigger than any curse he’d have to devour sitting at the back of his throat that he can’t seem to swallow down. the stinging pain behind his eyes he’s been tampering down for the whole night is spilling at the corners and suguru is so exhausted and sad that can no longer hold it in.
“i—” suguru chokes as his hands come up to clutch at shoko’s wrists as if he hasn’t stained her enough. just another thing to add to his growing list of crimes and he almost wails, “why?”
why would they do all this? why would they help him? why would they cover for him? why did they go to such lengths? for him? after what he had done? why aren’t they pushing him away? why haven’t they called yaga and the school on him? satoru is the heir and the next head of a major jujutsu clan and shoko is a prized and rare rct prodigy. why risk their lives and standing in jujutsu society? this is suguru’s mess. why did they have to get themselves involved?
“tch. idiot,” that’s satoru who lightly tugs on the ends of his hair, and suguru startles because he hadn’t meant to say any of that out loud. “why do you think?”
“sorry, suguru. i’ll have to agree with satoru on this one,” shoko thumbs move to swipe at suguru’s tears. he didn’t realize he’d been crying but once he started, it seems he can’t stop. “we wanted to, stupid.”
“but, why?” suguru just couldn’t wrap his mind around it. “you guys have so much going on for you. satoru you're the first gojo born with the six-eyes in centuries and shoko you’re the only person who can use rct in our generation. just—” suguru heaves another gut-wrenching sob. “why?”
“it’s because we’re friends, idiot.” satoru flicks him on the forehead hard. “and friends stick with each other no matter what. that’s what friends do.”
suguru can’t help but let out a wet laugh at satoru’s simplistic logic. is it really that simple?
“pretty sure covering up a murder and cleaning up the scene of the crime is beyond the jurisdiction of friendship.”
“what are you, the friendship police? who even said that?”
“well, it’s part of this friendship. each of us gets one ‘help cover up your crime and get out of jail free’ card, but that’s it,” shoko says as she starts to comb her fingers through suguru’s hair. “take it or leave it.”
“just one?” satoru jokes as he unbuttons his school shirt. “what if i have to commit multiple crimes in the future?”
“if it’s petty crimes, you get unlimited chances, but if it’s something big, you only get one…per ten years. sounds good?”
“something big like murdering an entire village and erasing it off a map?” suguru asks wryly.
“sure,” shoko shrugs, fingers moving deftly to braid suguru’s hair so it doesn’t tangle overnight. “we can discuss more of the parameters later.”
“great ‘coz i need to know what falls under ‘petty crimes’,” satoru calls out as he sheds his pants on the way to the shower.
“besides, it’s like you said. we’re both too valuable for the jujutsu world. satoru’s gonna be the next gojo clan head on top of being the only six-eyes user in over, what, six centuries?” the sound of the running water stops and shoko shakes her head at satoru’s quick showering. she ties the end of suguru’s braid with an elastic and brushes the stray fringes away from his face, thumb gently grazing the bags under his eyes and wishing he could reverse cursed technique those away too. “and i’m next in line to head jujutsu’s medical department because i’m a genius rct prodigy. the only one in this generation and who knows how long?”
“arrogant,” satoru scoffs, walking back into the room in only his boxers, hair still wet.
“pot calling the kettle black,” shoko parries back and makes an annoyed noise when satoru shakes his wet hair at them. “anyway, what are they gonna do? expel us? excommunicate us from the jujutsu world?”
“please. god. i hope they do. they’ll be doing us a huge favor.” satoru plops down heavily on suguru’s bed, leaning heavily on him and gathering both of his friends in his arms. “i am. literally. so. tired.”
“plus, they’ll be shooting themselves in the foot if they let their only other special grade sorcerer go rogue on them.” shoko, still kneeling on the bed so she’s towering over them, leans into the hug and bends down to plant a gentle kiss on top of suguru’s temple. “you’re a force of nature on your own, suguru, or did you forget that?”
“i—you guys—” suguru swallows down another sob at that and for a moment just lets himself be squeezed by his friends, lets himself bask in their tender reassurances even if he knows he doesn’t deserve it. “you guys are such idiots to risk yourselves for me like this and—”
“hey! i resent that!”
“what did we just say?”
“—i would do the same for you idiots.”
“we already know that, stuuupiiid!” satoru drags the word out as he puts suguru in a headlock. “man, you owe so many sweets for this.”
“and you owe me cigarettes for the rest of your life. plus a blunt or two.”
“drugs, shoko? really?”
“what? you’ll excuse manslaughter but draw the line on a little weed? wuss.”
“who are you calling a—”
suguru laughs, the first real one of the night, and it effectively stops satoru and shoko at whatever verbal sparring they were about to get into.
“there you are,” satoru props his chin on suguru’s shoulder, an easy relieved smile on his lips. “we were beginning to think we lost you.”
“finally,” shoko sighs, slumping forwards and pinching his cheek. “thought i was gonna have to really flay satoru there for a sec.”
suguru wounds his arms around them and pulls them both against him. satoru and shoko easily go, tucking themselves close.
“i’ll buy you guys all the sweets and vices you want.”
‘fuck it,’ suguru thinks smiling at satoru and shoko’s matching exclaims of ‘yata!’, his chest bursting with affection for them and eternally grateful that he made the right choice to call instead of running, ‘i’ll burn the whole world for you guys if you ask.’
—
later, they lay side by side cramped in suguru’s bed, limbs entangled under the sheets and the fancy duvet satoru dragged from his own bed.
shoko lies pushed against the wall and half lying on suguru, while satoru is sprawled on his side on suguru’s right inches from the edge of the bed. someone’s leg is swung over on top of them while someone’s arm is draped across their torsos.
outside, jujutsu tech is quiet save for the sounds of the forest at night, and in the dark of his room, curled up in the warmth of his friends and their fierce loyalty, suguru whispers with all the sincerity he can muster the only words he can say at this moment suspended from the world outside.
“i’m sorry,” he says, knowing he will never stop feeling guilty for dragging them into his mess and knowing he will always be grateful for whatever forces of the universe at work that led him to them, “thank you both. for everything.”
“of course. we’re the strongest, remember? all of us,” satoru says with full conviction like it’s a universal truth as he meets shoko’s eyes. “we got you. always.” then, not at all hiding the possessiveness in his voice, “and you’re ours after all.”
suguru’s breath hitches at that.
“just as much as we are yours,” shoko plants a soft kiss on his shoulder, the one she broke earlier. “you won’t be able to shake us off that easily. looks like you’re stuck with us, huh.”
theirs and his.
as far as life sentences go suguru thinks this one’s not a bad one at all.
“you know,” shoko muses, and suguru and satoru share a look already knowing she’s going to say something out of pocket. “i’ve always wanted to aid and abet a criminal.”
yep. there it is.
“well. now you know? i guess?”
“hey. we’re not criminals.” suguru doesn’t need to turn to know that satoru is pouting. “at least not on paper.”
shoko just hums, neither agreeing or disagreeing.
“hey, suguru.”
“yeah?”
“why just the twins?”
the sudden lump in his throat is back and suguru fixes his eyes on a stain on his ceiling. thinking about the day’s events in the village makes his stomach churn and the urge to puke. rewinding the things he heard and the way the villagers speak about nanako and mimiko makes the blinding rage he felt earlier bubble up under his skin again but suguru reigns himself in. he could at least tell them his reason. he owes them this much after everything.
“they…the villagers,” suguru swallows and tampers down the telltale pinprick of tears at the memory of nanako and mimiko in the cage being called freaks and being punished for being different. it all just hits too close to home. “they were blaming the curse’s attacks on the twins. they thought it was their doing when the kids were actually warning the villagers about them. they’re the only ones in the entire village who see curses so the villagers thought they were siccing them on the people. the twins…they—the villagers put them in a cage and were whipping them. and they’re orphans too from what i was told so it was easy for the villagers to…to t-take them and lock them up. there was no one for them to—they don’t have anyone to—”
suguru’s words peter out into a sob and shoko shushes him, rubbing soothing circles in his chest laced with her cursed energy to calm him.
“well, then!” satoru exhales like he just had an ‘aha’ moment. “there’s your defense! that will hold in court if you go to trial, yeah? which you won’t! but just in case, a plus solid defense! all tens across the board! something something in defense of minors. or whatever.”
“seems like the village deserved it after all.” shoko shrugs, quieter in her support but on his side all the same. “thank you for telling us, suguru.”
“i don’t know what came over me. i just…i saw them in the cage, all small and afraid and bleeding and—fuck. they’re just kids for fucks sake! and the village head was saying all these vile things and i just…i just snapped. i don’t know. shit. fuck.” suguru exhales, using the heels of his palms to roughly swipe at his eyes. shoko and satoru stay silent at his side, quiet and still until suguru has composed himself. “listen, i’ll…i’ll tell you guys the rest tomorrow, okay? i promise.”
“okay.”
“tomorrow then.”
tomorrow he will tell them everything. tomorrow he will explain what’s been going through his head ever since that disastrous star plasma vessel mission. he’ll tell them why seeing mimiko and nanako being treated like freaks hit too close to home and why it made something in him snap. he’ll tell them about tsukumo yuki and her research and the horrible thought that ran through his head at the thought of a curse-free world.
but for now, he’s nestled in between the people he would trust with his life, who saw him at his absolute worst and chose to love and accept him anyway. they could have forsaken him, and suguru would’ve understood and wouldn’t blame them, but they chose to save him instead. tucked safely between the warmth of the people he would die and kill for again if they asked, suguru chooses to sleep.
everything may not be completely fine, but suguru is comforted with the knowledge that he will not face tomorrow alone.
—
here’s how the mission goes according to shoko’s and satoru’s joint report and co-signed by suguru:
the mission brief has misidentified the curse as a grade 2 when it was actually a grade 1. in the time it took for the school to send a jujutsu sorcerer on site, the curse had somehow morphed into a special grade.
on september xx 2009, special grade sorcerer geto suguru arrived as the curse was devouring the village and sustained multiple physical injuries including broken ribs, a fractured arm, and possible head trauma. special grade gojo satoru was called for backup. he was too late to save the village or any of its inhabitants but arrived just in time to obliterate the curse using purple hollow and with it the whole village proper.
two girls were rescued on the site found by special grade sorcerer geto suguru. they appear to be able to sense cursed energy and so they fled the village to hide in the forest when they sensed danger. whether they come from a family of sorcerers local to the village is currently unknown.
geto suguru and gojo satoru arrived back at jujutsu tech through the use of the latter’s teleportation and public transportation as there were no available assistant directors to fetch the sorcerers from the mission site.
satoru types up the report in the wee hours before dawn on his old laptop. shoko wakes just in time to proofread it for any inconsistencies, loopholes, logic fails and adds in her own embellishments.
infirmary staff ieiri shoko on night duty tended to the injuries sustained by geto suguru and gojo satoru.
special grade sorcerer geto suguru is suspended from taking any missions until cleared of his injuries.
special grade sorcerer gojo satoru is advised to be taken off any missions until he has fully mastered the six-eyes and purple hollow to minimize collateral damage.
while it prints, satoru wakes up suguru so they can both affix their signatures. shoko signs last and inserts her medical report in the white folder before handing it over to one of the assistant directors on duty to leave on the principal’s desk.
in the morning, principal yaga masamichi reads the mission report over breakfast and knows it’s complete bullshit right off the first paragraph. he’s gotta hand it to shoko, though. that girl knows how to forge a damn good medical report. the fake mri scan result was a nice touch. he also appreciates satoru writing it as he does any other mission reports, down to the erasures and wonky formatting as if he couldn’t be bothered to write it at all, as a red herring.
now, if only they put half as much effort into their schoolwork as they do creating fake mission reports.
masamichi grumbles about problematic students and why he didn’t switch careers when he had the chance as he affixes his signature and official principal seal, effectively making himself complicit in this farce his idiot students have cooked up. if they went through all this trouble, they must have a damn good reason. he’ll grill those menaces within an inch of their lives and get to the bottom of this later if it’s the last thing he does.
for now, he’s just relieved his kids are still mostly intact and probably sleeping off what he can only assume is a rough night. at least now he knows what his meeting with the higher-ups will be about. masamichi readies himself for what he is sure will be a long drawn-out battle in bureaucracy and diplomacy.
fuck it all. he’s gonna fight tooth and nail for his stupidass problem kids even if it kills him.
“Don’t worry, we’re going to fix this. It’s fine.”
(It’s pretty much NOT fine)
Context: Gojo finds Geto right after what happened in the village. Still somewhat in denial.

OK FIRST OF ALL HOW DARE YOU??! We got baby Orion, look at that bean, so small and cute, but at what cost? The cost of our hearts being shattered….
Now the dramatics are over! The Megatronus doll?! I can hear d-16 seething in jealousy somewhere lmao.
Please tell me I’m not seeing things and Prima pulled out a weapon when he heard the door open?! Ready to defend but not when it was needed most because sentinel is a little bitch.
ZETA BEING ORIONS FAVE?! (It’s so cool you included that because it is part of canon, it’s in the movie novelisation if anyone is curious)
It’s so much more tragic with that piece of info, the way you drew Orion feeling like he’s lost something and having to be snapped out of it 😭 I love your art so much.
It does raise a question though, how old is Orion? Did he age slower or did sentinel do something to was with his ageing?
baby prime orion au
AKJSHDKAHDA THANK YOU I'M GLAD YOU ENJOYED IT!!! and that it seemed to hit the way i wanted it to! it is my mission with this au to make it unbearably cute and painful as fuck <33
that doll... i have plans for that doll.... no spoilers but it will come back...
AND YES THANK YOU FOR NOTICING THAT!! you're the first person i see that points out Prima's reaction to hearing someone come in! he's a little (a lot) overprotective of OP and he's always on guard even when they're deep in the tower where no one but their siblings and some trusted members of the High Guard are allowed to enter. he's also lowkey training OP to keep quiet when he hears someone come into his room and to be cautious of strangers. he doesn't want his baby brother to be scared of the world but he just... wants to keep him safe at all costs. most of the primes think he's being a little paranoid but he Does Not Care. once OP is older and can take care of himself they can talk about his anxiety but until then he's sticking to his guns.
and fun fact! when Sentinel sent his trackers to take custody of Optimus during his coup, it took them just long enough to search his rooms for him to allow the High Guard to send reinforcements and take him away. so. anxiety for the win babeeey⁓
and yeah zeta being OP's favorite is directly taken from the novel! in my mind Prima is OP's primary caretaker with everyone else taking turns to switch out with him, but Zeta being the matrix holder doesn't get the chance to do it as often as everyone else. so him dropping by is a special occasion! and because he doesn't want to ruin the little time he gets with his baby brother with anything, he lowkey spoils Optimus the most. so it's a mix of novelty and over-indulgence that gives him the edge over everyone else 🤭
AND YEAH THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GOING FOR! in this au OP is looking for the matrix for the good of everyone, he does believe bringing it back is the best thing for their society but deep down he also hopes it will fix the gaping wound in his spark he's been nursing his entire life. and when he sees Zeta Prime's lifeless body he knows the matrix being missing from it should be the thing he should focus on but... it's really not. and he doesn't understand why.
and orion's age is... something i kinda hoped no one would remember to ask about (/▽\)
jk but for real he's about 52 cycles old. he's definitely older than the rest of the squad for at least a decade! buuuuut as a prime he also does age slower than them. this one is not on sentinel, it's just a him/prime thing. a small part of dee's frustration with orion in this au is because he's under the impression that they're more or less the same age but orion acts much more immaturely than he should, but this is kinda because orion literally doesn't mature at the same rate than he does.
it's not by much but the difference is there and they can feel it even if they don't understand it.
i have a chart in case anyone cares about it akjsdhkja
not my best work but it'll do for now.
so basically OP's mental development is one year for every 2.5 cycles while everyone else's is one per every 1.5. he and dee met when OP was 36 cycles old and Dee was 24 which was the exact moment where their mental development was almost equal, which made them hit off pretty well! but after that it was just a matter of time before dee started leaving Orion behind.
again, it isn't by much but the difference exists and is just one more straw to break the camel's back.
also the poor high guard that stayed behind to keep an eye on Orion was working overtime trying to keep people from wondering why this particular sparkling was growing up so slowly. they faked a bunch of records for him and officially speaking Orion is 47 cycles old, when he's actually 52, but even that only gave them a very limited amount of time before everyone started noticing that Orion was kinda little for his age.
they also did their damn best to keep Orion from entering the mines at the age he was supposed to because there was no fucking way they were letting the equivalent of 12 year old go in there.
they did so much crime and falsification you guys.
as it is OP was still mentally younger than everyone else when they went in, but officially he was almost 5 years older than he should've been. it was the best they could do.
so... yeah!
thank you for asking because i had been postponing doing this for weeks now xD
#hey i got an ask#Anonymous#transformers#tfone#optimus prime#baby prime orion au#THIS WAS SO NICE. THANK YOU SO MUCH I'M GONNA CRY 〒▽〒#i adore when people leave their thoughts in the tags and getting this ask made my entire week!! thank you so much!!!!#hope this was worth the wait!#and thank you for getting the brainworms working (/▽\)(/▽\)

riddled with spoilers so be warned. ❌❌❌

I don't know why the sequels of the IPs in the Spring Festival did not achieve the effect I expected, but The Legend of the Condor Heroes exceeded my expectations. I have watched several of Tsui Hark's movies, and my impression of him is that he is a romantic martial arts old man. After watching The Legend of the Condor Heroes, I think this is even more true. Tsui Hark is really romantic. His lens language has its own characteristics, which is implicit and magnificent. These two somewhat contradictory words can be expressed in the movie The Legend of the Condor Heroes. It is not an exaggeration to say that Tsui Hark is the best.

The movie The Legend of the Condor Heroes is a very good work. I had low expectations because I saw many people dislike it on Weibo. I watched it based on the idea that I must watch all five movies in the Spring Festival, but The Legend of the Condor Heroes gave me a big surprise.
I have been crying since I saw Huang Rong masked and saw Guo Jing crying. The Legend of the Condor Heroes moved me. I cried for the love that accompanies each other through life and death. This silent love moved me very much. I cried that Guo Jing's mother committed suicide to protect the country so as not to drag Guo Jing down. I cried that Guo Jing did not forget his homeland after decades in Mongolia. I thought of the overseas Chinese, most of whom care about their motherland. If the motherland is in trouble, they will come back across the ocean.
I admire Tsui Hark so much. The shots are so beautiful and the love is so romantic. In Tsui Hark's writing, life is so beautiful. The only regret is that Huang Rong in my heart is more cunning and beautiful than Zhuang Dafei.

this next one is explaining the idea behind this specific scene that some people are ridiculing. cause they are expecting a big battle to happen.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e38e96ded2555a4373bfad5dd447ac0f/70707dbb6b0e247a-db/s540x810/7def39a7ca73eb599a92950359392368e9df0e72.jpg)

The painting on the left shows the scene of Chinese soldiers guarding the border, and on the right is a picture of Guo Jing fighting against the Mongolian army. Several Chinese soldiers opened their arms to show their firm determination to defend the country's territorial sovereignty. Guo Jing was also firm in the face of foreign troops. What's wrong with this? This action is actually the first reaction in an emergency. What's wrong with this design? He is well aware of his own insignificance. Guo Jing will not use brutal killing to fight against the Mongolian army, but the Khan is not stupid. He did not retreat because he was moved. He saw Guo Jing's lethality and his own army was also demoralized, so he retreated. He didn't understand this.

Not a fan, a brief review of The Legend of the Condor Heroes. I took my parents to watch The Legend of the Condor Heroes. The first half was bland, but the second half was exciting, with many big scenes and great special effects. I was attracted by Xiao Zhan's looks before, but this time his makeup made people pay more attention to his acting skills. I think his acting is OK, his lines are also very good, and his Mongolian is well received. The heroine is cute when she smiles, but Hua Zheng is too outstanding and overshadows the heroine as soon as she appears. Tony Leung Ka Fai is worthy of being the best actor. After watching this drama, I am a fan of Ouyang Feng. I have watched too many movies in the past two years and I am aesthetically fatigued. Xu Ke's martial arts films are eye-opening.
The righteousness of the country and the family is a belief that integrates the blood of the Chinese people and will never go out of date. The show I watched was basically full, and most of them came with their parents. I don't mean to say that other movies are bad. It is true that most of my parents are more interested in Xu Ke's martial arts. The end credits of the movie came out, and everyone didn't leave until it was completely over. Most people should be satisfied. At least for me, leaving the heated room and going out in the cold, I would be really angry if I spent money to watch a movie and it was not good. but I think The Legend of the Condor Heroes is worth watching. Finally, I want to complain about the official promotion. The highlight scenes are not used for promotion at all!

Finally, let's talk about "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Greatest Hero". Tsui Hark is the best martial arts film director. The war scene between the two armies is simply too shocking!
The first 10 minutes are more than just grand and spectacular, it's simply going to blow the world away. Thousands of horses galloping and dust flying, the visual impact is so strong that it is worthy of being written by Tsui Hark.
The following story is full of romantic love and ruthless killing, and the huge contrast of alternating performances is like ice and fire.
What is the greatest hero? In order to protect one side, he is willing to give up everything and never bend. Whether it is against thousands of troops or fighting against Ouyang Feng, the Western Poison, Guo Jing and Huang Rong are both brave and courageous. Both the emotional drama and the fighting scenes are brilliant.
Guo Jing, portrayed by Xiao Zhan, has changed his previous image of being stupid and dull, and his resolute and vigorous spirit is refreshing.
Huang Rong, played by Zhuang Dafei, is no longer the wild girl who only knows how to cheat and deceive people. When it comes to the crucial moment, she is as brave as a man.
The performances of many supporting roles, such as Ouyang Feng played by Tony Leung Ka Fai and Hua Zheng played by Zhang Wenxin, are all outstanding.
Tsui Hark is undoubtedly the golden signboard of martial arts films. From the popular "Unbeatable in the East" to the benchmark-setting "New Dragon Inn", to today's classic, the overall performance of the actors, the extraordinary audio-visual feast, and the interpretation of the spirit of chivalry have all reached a level that amazes the audience.

——
Tsui Hark's film "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" is quite a pleasant surprise. It restores many of the main characters and plots of the original novel "The Legend of the Condor Heroes". The visual impact is particularly shocking. It is indeed a masterpiece of Tsui Hark's martial arts. The movie is exciting. It not only has touching national justice, but also romantic love, the cruelty of war, and the pain of the people being displaced.
At the end of the plot, Guo Jing's dialogue with Genghis Khan clearly explains what the chivalrous spirit of "the greatest hero" is. It is not only reflected in the high martial arts, but more importantly, it is to have feelings and righteousness, care about the world, and be able to stand up in times of national crisis without considering personal safety and gains and losses. The value of "the greatest hero, for the country and the people" will make people cherish the precious peaceful environment now. When the familiar melody sounded, the call of "Brother Jing" and "Rong'er" instantly pulled back the highlights of the past years, and I couldn't help but think of the green years and college classmates chasing the TV series "The Legend of the Condor Heroes".

Recommend "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", full house, more than half of them are from Hong Kong - three friends from the Greater Bay Area to Beijing and Xiangyang to watch the movie. In general, Tsui Hark's version of The Legend of the Condor Heroes still has his own distinctive style, especially the final game between Guo Jing and Ouyang Feng, which is very exciting. I was also very moved after watching it. The martial arts finally returned with the spirit of chivalrous and brave heroes. This spirit is not only needed in martial arts, but also in our era and this world. People like this are still needed to achieve and write.
A friend who works in the Greater Bay Area, "The Great Righteousness of Heroes and the Family Governing the Country and the World" - Watching "The Legend of the Condor Heroes"
I took the time to watch "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" today. Before the movie started, I made two surprising discoveries. The audience was almost full, and most of them were from Hong Kong. (Since I have lived, worked and studied in Hong Kong since the early 1990s, I can distinguish Hong Kong people and Hong Kong dialect.)
Therefore, Jin Yong's martial arts novels, TV and movies are the memories that accompanied my best years. Through his characters, Jin Yong explored themes such as loyalty, love, friendship, power, and desire, showing his deep understanding of human nature. But after watching the movie today, I have a deeper feeling than the chivalry of the martial arts world and the righteousness of the country.
In the movie, through the different levels of emotional interactions between Guo Jing and Huang Rong, between the master and the apprentice, and between the Mongolian brothers, I felt their deep friendship and chivalry. These have been the indispensable spiritual core of Chinese culture since ancient times. The chivalrous not only violates the law with force, but also walks the world with righteousness. They value their promises and put their lives aside, help the poor and the needy, and use their personal strength to maintain social fairness and justice.
In the movie, there was a dialogue between Guo Jing and the Khan on the battlefield that made me feel deeply. The Khan stared at Guo Jing and said, "I regret not giving you a Mongolian name." Guo Jing firmly replied, "Even if I have a Mongolian name, I still remember that my name is Guo Jing." ... ... The righteousness of chivalry is not only reflected in the protection of the weak, but also in the loyalty to the country and the nation. Such a deep-rooted sense of identity with the nation and the country. Throughout history, those Chinese compatriots who have made great achievements overseas and still resolutely repay their motherland are not so chivalrous!
I saw some comments online saying that this movie can be renamed "Guo Jing Chasing His Wife"... Most of them are negative comments. In fact, as an ordinary citizen, the first thing is of course the love for family and friends. If he can't love his family and handle the small family and small feelings well, how can he manage his family, govern the country and bring peace to the world? Managing the family means family harmony and a correct family style; governing the country means national stability and political clarity; bringing peace to the world means pursuing the great harmony of the world and the happiness of all people.
This concept emphasizes that the thoughts that Guo Jing's mother instilled in him since he was a child have always revolved around the gradual process of individuals, families, and then countries, and finally achieving world peace. This is also an important concept in Confucianism. I think the film team should have a very good understanding and grasp of the central idea and spirit expressed in this film. I think this is different from the previous films of Xu Laoguai, which are more profound thoughts.
The righteousness of chivalry and governing the country and bringing peace to the world by managing the family seem to belong to different fields, but in fact they have a profound internal connection. The righteous deeds of chivalrous people often start with the responsibility for the family, and then expand to the responsibility for the country and the nation. The righteousness of chivalry is the spiritual foundation of governing the country and bringing peace to the world by managing the family. Without the righteous deeds of chivalrous people, it is difficult for the family to be harmonious, the country to be stable, and the world to be peaceful.
In the long river of history, countless chivalrous people have promoted the progress of society with their righteous deeds. They may be hidden in the market or prominent in the court, but all of them put righteousness first and take the world as their responsibility. Their spirit has inspired generations of Chinese people to strive for the ideal of governing the country and bringing peace to the world by managing the family.
Today, we still need the righteousness of chivalry. In the process of modernization, social fairness and justice still need everyone to maintain. Each of us can become a chivalrous person, act righteously in the world, start from the family, and then influence the society, promote the progress of the country, and finally realize the ideal of universal peace.
The righteousness of chivalry and governing the country and bringing peace to the world by managing the family are not only the inheritance of history, but also our responsibility and mission today. Let us shoulder the responsibility of governing the country and bringing peace to the world with the spirit of a knight, and jointly create a better future.
In general, Tsui Hark's version of The Legend of the Condor Heroes shows the details and emotions of Jin Yong's original work, and still has his own distinctive style, especially the final game between Guo Jing and Ouyang Feng, which is very exciting and touching. The martial arts finally returned with the spirit of chivalrous and brave heroes. This spirit is not only needed in martial arts, but also in our era and this world. Such people are still needed to achieve and write.

this one is very long and goes into detail about some plot points so feel free to go to the source.
Maybe it’s because Ive praised The Legend of the Condor Heroes too much. Now in the information cocoon of Weibo, Weibo keeps pushing reviews of The Legend of the Condor Heroes to me. They are all overwhelmingly criticizing Director Tsui Hark and Xiao Zhan, and some of them are very fierce.
As I said in my last Weibo post, the quality of this movie has nothing to do with Xiao Zhan. He is Director Tsui Hark’s graphic tool man, and he has fulfilled his duties as an actor. There is not much to criticize in his acting, lines, and actions. Perhaps the only thing that can be blamed on him is that he is not a martial arts actor. If he or the other two or three leading actors had martial arts skills, Director Tsui Hark might not have made this movie, which was promoted as a "martial arts", almost completely without decent martial arts scenes, only fantasy qigong scenes like in cartoons. But it’s not Xiao Zhan’s fault.
So is the quality of Director Tsui Hark’s screenwriting and directing so bad that he is trampled on like this? As a literary youth who has watched countless movies since childhood and a semi-professional novelist, from my appreciation point of view, this movie is indeed not well made. But it’s not that bad. At least my 2 hours of time was not completely wasted. At least 30 to 40 minutes were high-quality viewing time. But it requires more thinking to understand.
In this final climax, the overall logic is very good, and Xiao Zhan's facial expression when he spread his arms, and the lines in Mongolian and Chinese are also very good. The biggest failure is that Huang Rong should not stand beside him. Who is Huang Rong? What is her relationship with the opposing army? Is there any emotional connection of life and death? Nothing. It is unwise for Huang Rong to stand beside him, which greatly weakens the logic behind this contradictory confrontation and the shocking effect of the scene. In addition, it also greatly weakens the charm of Guo Jing as the protagonist in this decisive scene. I don’t know if this big failure is the decision of director Tsui Hark or because of some inexplicable reasons of the investors.

this is also very long but i will share the part about XZ and GJ.
After watching the movie with Jin Yong fans, I agreed that this version is quite innovative in shaping the character of Guo Jing compared to other versions, with less naivety and more maturity and perseverance. Xiao Zhan's interpretation of this version is sincere and decisive, and he became Guo Jing in the story in a rounded and non-sharp way.
I know a lot about the story, as an audience, I was not distracted for a minute during the movie. There was only the character of Guo Jing in the movie. What I still remember is Hua Zheng's description of Guo Jing: "You will know when you see him." Yes, you will definitely feel it when you see him in the movie world. Yes, this is Guo Jing. He is chivalrous and will never betray justice.
In addition, Xu Ge also respects female characters, and his favorite characters have always transcended the concept of gender. The adaptation of the rooftop confrontation between Huang Rong and Hua Zheng is very exciting. Female characters are no longer based on "who", but are more independent. My division is attacking in the south and will attack Xiangyang. I know that you are loyal to the country and risk your life to report it. I am sorry for your mother's tragic death, and I am ashamed to see you again. I have gone to the remote west to rely on my elder brother, and I will never set foot on my homeland again. May you take good care of yourself and live a long and happy life. The casting of Hua Zheng is extremely suitable for the free and easy and bloody nature of the grassland heroine that is highly summarized in the letter she gave to Guo Jing in the original work, which is very moving.

First of all, I am not a fan of Xiao Zhan. I started to pay attention to Xiao Zhan because of a little girl who came to my company for internship a few years ago.
Secondly, there were so many people watching the movie. I watched it in the Dolby Hall today, and except for the first two rows, it was basically full. When everyone was waiting to be seated, they actually lined up at the door of the theater. I haven't seen it for many years.
Thirdly, I give the movie 8 points. I feel that the plot can be fuller (I vaguely feel that it has been cut), and Huang Rong is a little bit worse, although I like the last shot of Huang Rong pulling Guo Jing up to make a protective posture, which perfectly reflects that "Guo Jing is Huang Rong's world".
The last point is the reason why I strongly recommend it:
as a generation that grew up reading Jin Yong's novels. This version of Guo Jing should be the Guo Jing in Mr. Jin Yong's mind.
In the novel, Guo Jing is the character that Genghis Khan's daughter loves but cannot get and never marries. He is the character that Huang Yaoshi's daughter, who is proficient in piano, chess, calligraphy and painting, falls in love with at first sight. He is the character that all upright masters are willing to teach their lifelong skills.
source
——
I watched The Legend of the Condor Heroes and here are 9 thoughts, some good and some bad. Please forgive me if I said something wrong:
1. The big scenes are quite good and magnificent, and must be praised.
2. Xiao Zhan is the most handsome Guo Jing in history, and his appearance is good, heroic and upright.
3. The greatest heroes protect the country and the people. Guo Jing rode alone to stop tens of thousands of Mongolian cavalry, and said to the Khan, "Heroes must have compassion..." This is Tsui Hark's public evaluation of heroes through the movie, which is very bold. If you don't see this, you underestimate Tsui Hark.
4. Hua Zheng's actor is well chosen, and everyone loves her. Guo Jing has no reason to refuse the marriage.
5. In the final battle, the Western Poison became a demon, and "martial arts" became "demon skills", which is a bit too much.
6. Huang Rong's spirit is gone, which makes people wonder how she can become the leader of the Beggars' Sect. But Zhuang's appearance is still okay.
7. There are more shots of Guo Jing's mother.
8. For some plots, such as the reunion of Guo Jing and Huang Rong, there is no need to go against the original work. Jin Yong wrote about the world of martial arts! It would be great to film it as it is, with lightning rods and dark rainy nights, which is so disgusting.
9. The old songs of The Legend of the Condor Heroes are very good, at least they set off a small part of the atmosphere and feelings. Classics cannot be surpassed, no matter how great the AI can be, which makes people feel gratified about the future of art in the AI era.

——
The first movie for this year's Spring Festival was the most popular "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Greatest Hero". As a post-80s generation, I believe that many people, like me, have a strong obsession with The Condor Heroes, and also have their own images of Guo Jing and Huang Rong that suit them best. I was quite surprised that Xiao Zhan and Zhuang Dafei's interpretation of Huang Rong and Guo Jing exceeded my imagination. Guo Jing's persistence and honesty, and Huang Rong's eccentricity are all vividly portrayed on the screen.
The most moving part of the whole play is the handling of the conflict in the core plot, the national sentiment reflected by Guo Jing when he was faced with the choice between family affection and righteousness in the end, and his mother Li Ping's death in the face of national justice, all reflect the theme of the whole play - the greatest hero.
The ending of the story handles the plot between affection and righteousness very well, which is also a plus for this film

Faithful Lovers
This scene has become one of my favourite things to exist.
I love this scene for the rawness and openess of conversation. It's both of them telling each other with so much conviction why they need the other to see their perspective. It's vulnerable, it's beautifully done, it's art.
The pain in the hug is so palpable but so is the comfort. It's so hard to see her trying to add distance between them - before Hyunwoo pulls her into his embrace - cause she can.not.be.swayed.by.him. Does Hyunwoo apologise for putting her in a situation like this? For not realising just how much she has to lose? Or for being selfish begging her to say yes to this surgery?
Don’t do this to me. Don’t make me want to live. I won't be able to recognize you. I'll become a stranger.
First things first, thank you Kim Jiwon for that delivery. It killed me emotionally, made me cry and want to hug you even more. Protect this beautiful smoll bean at all costs.
Notice how one of the major things that keeps breaking her resolve is him. His love. His understanding. His physical being. Yet the only thing stopping her from living is also him . His memories. His love. Him.
When he tries to convince her that she will fall in love with him again her little head shake says 'But it won't be the same.' I love how it isn't written off as Oh I know I'll be able to love you. She has doubts. So many of them. I think just the idea that she could wake up and lose her ability to love him is unbearable to her. What if she can't love with the same intensity? Not feel what she feels right this moment? What if she looks into his eyes after the surgery and feels like she would rather forget him than die? Haein knows how much Hyunwoo's put into ensuring she lives yet she rather experience that love than throw it all away on a chance.
But Hyunwoo is defiant. He's not taking no for an answer. He can't anymore. He hates that she won't listen to him. That she's having doubts. Isn't it common sense? He'll be there. They'll figure it all out. She'll be alive. It's such an interesting and logical perspective to have 'as long as there is life anything can happen.' because once she's dead that's it.. it's the end. But if she's alive, the possibility and capacity of love still exists.
Even if you don't fall for me, ignore me or dislike me I'll still be there for you through it all. Why doesn't this kid understand that's exactly why she can't agree to it. She can't bear the possibility of that happening.
I think Hyunwoo shines when he says 'I made a promise. That I'd be by your side even if there's a debt or something more. So don't worry and just stay here please.'
Notice how this is directly in contrast with what she says right at the beginning 'We make promises in good times thinking they'll never end.' But Hyunwoo remembers and he's willing to be there through it all.
Don't pray about dying. I'm terrified it'll come true.
She's praying to die. Let that sink in. For a man who believes enough to pray for her to be saved, when her death is so imminent - almost a fact, this is indeed terrifying. I feel his fear and pain. Good grief, she's praying to die when there's such a big possibility of exactly that. She accepted her fate and he's willing to fight tooth and nail to change it. It's a tesimtiment to how many times he's spent thinking of a life without her. He's convincing her to rid of their memories. I know he's aware of exactly what it means. The chances they're taking but the idea of not seeing her again is so unbearable for him.
I love Haein's strong mindedness. She didn't budge. Her last look for me read 'I get it. I get it all but just no. I can't lose you. Please don't cry and make this harder. Don't make me want to live.' and with that she hardens her heart as she steps away and takes her hand from him.
While this man, ouff this man. Can we take a moment to appreciate the sheer desperation on his face. After she signals no again he's so helpless. 'Please, please see me and live, if only for me. I cannot fathom this earth without you.' Seriously, we all need to take a minute to appreciate his desperation throughout this scene. The woman that he loves, his ideal women won't agree to stay alive because she loves him too deeply. Just writing this hurts me.
It's interesting this scene works because by now we know where they both stand in this episode. For me, the reason this scene shines is the vulnerability - the two of them having this extremely open and confrontational confession. When scenes like this are executed and written well it creates everlasting frames like this.
Also they both suck at praying. If you're praying just pray to keep her alive and keep her memories intact. Why are they picking and choosing? It's not like God has a limit to what he can do. Truly nonsense prayers from both of them. 🙃

i don't really follow gmm couples closely but i thought firstkhao was one of gmm's biggest, what do you mean they're not that popular in thailand 😭😭
asdfghjkjhgf okay??? soo all this started because I was at my LAST straw when I saw a fan complaining that gmm prejudiced against first and he needs more work on twt (he already works *SO* much) and after having to see a series of gmm crits that were basically [insert false causalities/ metaphysically impossible demands] I lost my mind a little. [but actually its because im already pretty cuckoo bananas but I digress]
Then @fromthedepthsandbeyond brought to my attention this estimate (are you the op?) of events and brand sponsorships from last year where it shows that FirstKhao as a CP are in fact extremely popular but not at all popular as solo artists. And unfortunately I think this is just reality - they work really well together but I was actually both their 'solo' fans before they paired up. More khaotung than First and they are unfortunately just a little too kooky for mainstream popularity. I genuinely think Joong is trying to help Khaotung with roping him into TikTok dances and constantly promoting him on his own channel and IG broadcast because boy do First and Khaotung do nothing mainstream on IG. its only happy birthdays, promo work, promo cp, promo each other and khaotung's blurry artsy fuckboi photos. What can I say, that's what I like, that's what the people who like them like. I hope they don't change (but I know they're trying to). I would say, that actually they are quite popular given how far they veer from traditional masculinity...like they're pretty queer? Gun's numbers are exactly the same as them. Like I don't think GMM can do anything about that. I genuinely don't think GMM can do anything about the next bit either (at least in regards to FK they are very much fucking up other things)
What I was a little surprised by perhaps was this report by another fan who went to their building this summer (2024) and FK just had a mural on the second floor basement. I know that at some point they had some type of pillar on the ground level. Now, the events numbers are outdated and I follow them on socmed fairly close - they might not be getting sponsorships but they're not jobless. even at the times they're quiet or disappear when they resurface it turns out that they were series prepping or in workshops.
I don't know what to say, they're very queer coded, they take challenging jobs and are involved in projects and with creators that are invested in making some unique art which is rare at gmmtv something that everyone here loves to incessantly yell about (for good reason at times).
I don't know how to say this so that it doesn't sound totally insane but to be more popular they have to act straighter???? They actually have to look like they want to fuck a woman, like at least that they think about it instead of just each other. Like they tried so hard to make First's character straight in blacklist -A VALIANT attempt one would say and he still ended up having more chemistry with Drake and the 4 seconds he spent with khaotung on screen 😭 JoongDunk and PondPhuwin are just not like that??? I follow Joong and Pond on IG too and they are in fact able to breathe without their respective pair present. They are so so so so in love when together, bring each other up quite a bit when they're solo but they're not living inside the other's pocket if that makes sense? Sorry I ranted so long??? and for what?? but I guess what I'm trying to say is that I want Firstkhao to be popular but I also don't want them to change at the cost of mainstream popularity (though I understand why they're trying) - they are so worryingly codependent and wonderfully weird 🤧🤧🤧🤧

X-MEN OC YAPPING!!!
Here's a small doodle of my X-Men OC! His name is Ryder, he's a mutant, his mutant power is similar to telepathy, but rather for emotions and feelings instead of all aspects of the mind. It's called "Absolute Empathy" I believe! He can sense, manipulate, and project emotions! He cannot read minds, control minds, communicate telepathically, but he can "read your heart" in a way, and influence your emotions using his mind. He can also project his emotions telepathically if he finds them hard to express. continued yapping under the cut !!
This ability can be useful for communicating feelings, but it also causes him great stress. He believes he cannot trust anyone's feelings toward him to be genuine, when people show interest in him, want to be his friend, or have romantic feelings for him, he assumes that it must be his control over his power slipping, and that he is the one influencing these feelings. this leaves him feeling very alone and paranoid about people's "real" intentions or feelings. He doesn't know that he can't actually make people fall in love with him, since love is such a complex array of emotions, but he is always scared that his close friends and loved ones really don't care about him at all. On a more positive note, he can fight with this power if needed. He can stun an enemy by invoking a sense of terror in them, but he can only do this if they don't know how to fight his ability. If you are aware that he is manipulating you, you can remind yourself it's not real and fight back against he emotions he's casting onto you. he's a very sensitive person, and often his empathic ability can make him susceptible to breakdowns.
here's a silly drawing i did of him crying lol GRR GRRGRR i miss when i drew in this art style >:( my style has changed a lot </3
also I ship him with Logan lalalala Logan's mind and heart are very strong, and not easily broken into, and Ryder is intrigued by this at first, then as Ryder spends more time with logan as a new member of the X-Men, he develops feelings. And Logan does too but at a much slower pace and in a more complex way. since he still loves Jean. I made up a little scene where Logan was having nightmares, and all the feelings Logan was experiencing woke Ryder up from across the mansion, so Ryder went to check in on Logan. He woke Logan up and asked him if he was alright, and of course Logan pushed him away, but Ryder asked if he could help at all. Logan said that he would never be able to understand, or feel what he feels, (he kinda forgot in the moment that Ryder was a superhuman empath) and so Ryder said something like "Then let me in, let me in so I can understand." and then he cups Logan's face in his hands and presses his forehead to his, and then Ryder dives into Logan's mind/heart and feels all he feels and then they share a moment of vulnerability together. After a few minutes Ryder leaves and goes back to bed and so does Logan, BUT AUGGHGHHAGHGHH they make me SICK GRGRGGRGRGRRRGRGR Also obligatory Logan and grumpy Ryder (Old art, my style has changed a lot since then)
Im actually so mad that i don't draw like this anymore GRRR anyways ryder dump
ignore the last drawing where he's a cyborg, that's a drawing of him from spiderverse, (he's my general self insert oc) ignore the last drawing where he's a cyborg, that's a drawing of him from spiderverse, (he's my general self insert oc)
also i would like to add, that in the X-Men universe, I'm inserting him into the first three X-Men movies, and in this time period, he's on T but is pre-op so he is binding rather than having the top scars like in the other drawings :3 anyways yap sesh OVER

Every You, Every Me
Story 4 (Part 2)
Picking up from where we left off.
Man, you should NEVER butt into a harassment situation without actually knowing what is going on. I would have left, too.
Sad, though, I was hoping for more sex and dick jokes instead of drama.
This plot has taken a weird turn. And kind of a boring one tbh. I don't really care about this Phukan drawing credit conflict. Let's get back to what we're here for, please.
Thank you, show 🙏🏻
Ope, James from the flashbacks is indeed an ex. He looked so uncomfortable at that marriage proposal? Weird vibe since it seems they didn't actually break up, but perhaps just a weak acting moment.
I love it when romance shows remind us it's fine and normal to have significant past relationships and people can love more than one person in their life and there's no need to be weird about it.
Okay that said this love confession and "I can't live without you" feels pretty fast for these two.
This shot through the shower curtain is strange, it's making Sian look like a ghost.
Hell yeah, rip the towel off! I love that we keep seeing shots of those painted blue nails.
Sian looks gorgeous in the window in that morning light.
Oh no he's singing... okay it's not nearly as bad as a lot Thai drama singing, I survived.
Cuuuuute montage during that song.
It must be said though that "you're my favorite musical note/you're my favorite work of art" are such cheesy lines.
Hahahaha little brother you really need to start knocking.
HEY THEY ARE MONTAGING ACROSS THE STORIES ALL OF A SUDDEN
OMG @twig-tea was right!!!! They are actors making a series of BLs yasssssssssssss
"You and Your Beautiful Soul" is the show they're currently making.
Is this breakup scene yet another BL, or the real guys?? OMG
New names Pun and Inn (which matches with the previous brief glimpse of BTS). I think these are the actual actors who have been playing all these other characters.
FIAT IS BACK
YEP, they showed up to set upset from their breakup.
"You're not me, you don't understand." WTF that line is the same as in the breakup we just watched.
Oh, so they breakup and make up frequently.
Who is this sassy tall man 👀
Ope, and next week we seem to be staying with this story of the actors instead of changing up again. This has been the real narrative all along, and it tracks well with the stuff I noted in my binge watch--the changing names, the performances getting better as the episodes go on, the way the physical intimacy differed so much and built to be stronger across each story. All of that makes perfect sense if they're an actor pair working together across multiple shows and getting more seasoned and comfortable as they go. Such a smart concept. I'm curious if we'll learn when they started dating and about the arc of some of those previous breakup and makeups against their BLs. I hope so!

as far as Elita One's writing in One goes we think it's a bad sign that Elita's ability to pull chief of staff-esque leadership as second in command that OP could not possibly be present for all of and in fact needs a second person to handle since he has to be a generalist because of his position and he also needs to be kept out of the loop sometimes was something that was really only something one could infer from familiarity with Elita's previous appearance in media and possibly knowledge of how executive leadership works is generally a bad sign. The movie needed another 30 minutes to effectively show Elita is supposed to be the Russell Jackson or Jay Whitman to Presidents Dalton or McCord, or Commander Susan Ivanova or Elizabeth Lockley to Commander Sinclair or President Sheridan.
we didn't have that, so it's very easy to come away from the movie thinking Elita is being depicted as a more competent leader not so fun gal (even though she is shown to be fun) deferring to a recklessly creative dreamer Optimus Prime. We don't really get to see her advise him on policy except the time she defers to him, keep him from getting entangled in things that will kill him. we do get to see her take the lead on handling the Decepticons to make sure they follow through with the revoluton, but we don't get to see her lead a group of Autobots on her own. so it just. as much as we enjoyed One we felt like this and her not having another gal on her side to talk to who had a major role was one of the major points of the movie that could have been better. Arcee could have been given a larger role but that would have required more introspection on who Arcee is than the film was perhaps prepared to do (the visual artists sure seemed to understand what with the arcee design convergence they went for, and it would have been nice for that to be followed up on)
like. legit I think the only reason our immediate family we saw this with wasn't discussing the gender dynamics of the film (besides them asking where was Arcee in the film LMAO) was because we all had outside of film information from study about how government and revolutions work to fill in. we think we get what the movie was going for but Elita needed more interiority. So did Solus and Arcee. And Airachnid, frankly. What was her motive in any of this? Will we find out in a sequel?
The movie's main theme is bodily autonomy, which we loved! It was great! This is one of our favorite films, period, of anything! But that doesn't mean we think there wasn't room to improve. All art is like that, though, so please don't take this as a 'you can't enjoy TF One because trans feminism' and more as 'it would be nice to see more stories in the future that go deeper in the stories of fem-spectrum characters and gender expansive people when navigating this subject in science fiction, and especially when said characters are transforming alien robots. it would be nice to have a written as transfem character in a film you really need only ask a transfem to look over what you're doing and get one to voice one but godsdamn it would be cool if one was given a shot at writing' you get the idea

okay listen. I get the urge to talk about my favorite life series ship like it's Canon in every season...BUT. THAT HAS NEVER ONCE BEEN THE CASE.
Yes, Jimmy would be upset if Tango canaried (technical scientific term for that). Everyone would be- even I would be, and I've never watched a single one of his videos. Canarying sucks, and it hurts. Of course I would be upset. THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT I THINK JIMMY WOULD BREAK DOWN SOBBING FROM A CHARACTER STAND POINT. They have had only like... THREE on screen interactions. One is Tango murdering a man infront of Jimmy and another is Tango cheerfully burning down something one of Jimmy's teammates worked very hard on. WildLifeChara!Jimmy has more reason to hate or be afraid of WildLifeChara!Tango than to be madly in love with him.
I promise you, if Tango had offered Jimmy a life instead of Ren, people wouldn't shut up about for MONTHS. But, because it's Ren, somehow the interaction isn't NEARLY as homoerotic??? I understand having NOTP's, but the Jimmy/Ren ship doesn't even show up ONCE on ao3. Zero fics. ZE-RO. There's no reason to hate something that doesn't even exist.
This same concept applies for Flower Husbands as well- not just in Wild Life, and Secret Life and Limited Life and Last Life and Real Life though- in Empires.
I have no clue about Empires Season 1, but they barely interacted in Empires Season 2- and yet the amount of ship art I sift through on a weekly basis for my side blog is actually insane. Yeah, the few interactions WERE important, but I think Scott only flirted (in video) with Jimmy maaybbeeee three times. I have no idea what the count of that for streaming is, but I swear it is not enough to keep that number so inflated.
Although, honestly, this problem might just be affecting me because of my personal view on shipping- if it's in a context where it doesn't make sense for the characters to be romantically engaged, I won't read it or write it.
For example, my beloved Solidwood! I mostly get their vibes or read their fics from the following series: Evo, Last Life, New Life, Empires2, Secret Life. That's because those settings make sense! They are active, they are engaged, they have near constant interactions or very close base locations. It makes SENSE for them to be shipped. However, if you showed me art or fic of them in, say, Limited Life, I'd furrow my brow and tilt my head and say "no, that doesn't do anything for me." BECAUSE THEY HAVE ZERO REASON TO BE INVESTED ROMANTICALLY IN ONE ANOTHER THERE, AS A STAND ALONE SETTING.
Most of the major Jimmy ships, though, don't follow this rule. I can understand loving a ship so much you want to see it everywhere- but, I promise you, stepping back and looking at which characters actually have chemistry regarding the new setting and social system will do wonders... you won't have to think of new Au's to insert your favorite ship into a new setting... all ships will be your favorite ship (unless they give you the ick). Join the multishiper hivemind /j
No but honestly it's gotten to the point where I will like or dislike a creator/character of theirs by what ship is their most popular given the context of the setting. Like, Tango in Double Life? Awww the sweetie!! I love him :) and then Tango in Empires2 sets off alarm bells in my brain screaming at me. He is NOT meant to be here bringing that ship here, this is NOT its territory. Same problem for Scott in nearly damn near every SMP both Jimmy and him are in... except Wild Life because he's actually been pretty nice and not condescending or forcing on Jimmy. I guess also power imbalances in how fans view them is a major no-go for me...
Idk if you read this whole thing thanks I guess... for anymore needed context I am a Jimmy rarepair obsessed multishiper.
TLDR; Lots of popular ships are inserted into settings without a thought for what that would mean for the setting and any changes in the established social connections, which gives OP the ick. I'm also not policing ships I'm just begging people to please either understand more ships using in setting context or list their AU details in the summaries of the fics. This goes hand in hand with misinterpreting characters in writing also... the more ships you like the more characters you will get to get good at writing!!!!
#Realized why the reason some creators leave a bad taste in my mouth is because their main ship's fanbase#Shoves that ship into everything. Even places it shouldn't be. For example a crazy amount of the Jimmy empires fics#Are au's of Esmp1 where Tango rules a kingdom in the Nether. Yeah its a fun idea but if it dominates HALF of the tags its...#It's just kinda spam at that point. He's not even in that smp and I'll bet Tango is tagged more than one of the Canon emperors#And the nearly the other half of Jimmy Empires fics are god damn FLOWER HUSBANDS. YOU CANT ESCAPE THEM#And also Scott even shoves the ship on Jimmy. Did you not SEE THEIR INTERACTION IN REAL LIFE???#JUST REALIZES THATS WHY I WAS ABLE TO READ A FLOWER HUSBANDS FIC ONCE.BEVAUSE THE WRITER MADE THEM SEEM LIKE EQUALS#fandom discourse#fandom discussion#shipping discourse#shipping discussion#creacheurspeacher#ship and let ship#life series#life smp#trafficblr#solidaritygaming#jimmy solidarity#traffic smp#scott smajor#smajor1995#tangotek#wildlife smp#trafficshipping#long post#rant post#shipping rant#flower husbands#the ranchers#solidwood
