After he managed to get away from the lab he was stuck in, 017 spent a long time alone in the forest. This, along with his brain already being fucked up by all the tortures and experiments, caused him to go crazy and he eventually started developing some sort of "animalistic" behaviors. Eventually with the help of the other resindents of the forest + some other creeps he got back in contact with reality but he still kept some old habits, like slightly growling if he sees something he considers a threat.
