Grian told Cleo and Etho “If we turn red today, I’m sticking by you. That’s the deal. It’s not over until it’s over.” Which, first of all, is such a big deal because he’s known for going wherever is continent (“I’ve never seen a man drop a pair of sunglasses so fast” - Scott) and he actually stayed loyal to them and kept his word. Etho and Cleo knew he wasn’t trustworthy and still welcomed him with open arms.

At the end of Secret Life for Etho, he died by saying “I’m going home everybody, I’m dying in my home.” The place that he made with Grian and Cleo, and he called it home.

Now, keeping all of this in mind, I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if the roomies had won. I mean all of the odds were against them, but just imagine for a moment. It would be Desert Duo at the sand castle all over again. None of them wanted to win without each other, but there could only be one.

Grian having to relive the cactus circle all over again? Etho finally being present in what he called a family and having to make the decision to die or to kill? Cleo being comfortable and accepting these idiots, and now she has no choice but to do the unspeakable? It’s not like all three of them can win. In their minds it would always be the three of them, but in the Watcher’s minds, there can only be one.

I love the way Crash Course in Romance explored class in its 8th episode! It’s subtle enough to go almost unnoticed for now but the fact that Chi Yeol had to chose between the piano recital and the chicken party leaves no doubt that it’s written like that on purpose. Chi Yeol is the star of the academy, he’s super popular, crazy rich, and is expected to date people from a high rank like the pianist he went on a blind date with. It’s not like he enjoys this life, it literally makes him sick, but that’s just what is expected of him. To get closer to Haeng Seon, he has to ditch this lifestyle. I feel like this is what episode 8 was about, telling it mostly through food.

Haeng Seon’s food an obvious part of this. She’s a cook but she sells ordinary side dishes. When she sees Chi Yeol in front of the store, Sua’s mom even says she "expected him to have a more sophisticated palate" because it’s not fancy enough for rich people like them. So when he suggests having a party to the family, he invites them to a western gourmet restaurant. Very far from the party they had at home to celebrate Hae Yi’s perfect grade in math in the previous episode... The family feels awkward, out of place, in this fancy and cold restaurant. When Chi Yeol asks to have every course served at the same time, it feels like home again. They speak again, eat big bites of food and food goes from one plate to another. The table was so big for the four of them before, now it feels like it got smaller and they sit closer to each other.

Fancy food like the one from that restaurant or like the snacks gifted by the pianist are great, they make you feel good. It’s new, different, it’s expensive. You want to get it from time to time. But what fills you up is basic, familial food, like Haeng Seon’s. It’s what makes you healthy, what comforts you when you need it. It’s the food you share with your loved ones or those who need it. It's the recipes you get from your mother. Chi Yeol thought he could only stomach Haeng Seon’s food but he ate without problem chicken she didn’t cook because it’s not just her cooking he needs but people to eat with. A family.

I've been thinking about how Vash always seems to be hungry. Or at least, that he's shown eating quite often in the manga. Happily having his salmon sandwiches. Eating an entire box of donuts in the side car. Knowing the conversion rate of bullets to pizza. Seeing a flower and immediately wondering if it's edible. Pondering his life over breakfast. It's a really cute little character detail about him - he likes food.

But then I kind of started to think about the angel arm and its specific brand of destruction. How there were no bodies to be recovered. Nothing but a crater left of July, left on the Fifth Moon. It's all been incinerated. Devoured, even. Tristamp takes it even a step further and makes the power something akin to a black hole - a yawning drain; a constant destructive hunger.

Vash is clearly terrified of this potential for destruction, and for very good reason. But it's not separate from him as some kind of "power he can't control" - it's his arm. It's literally his arm. It is him. Vash is scared of himself, scared of losing control. He does what he can to repress it, even subconsciously (the gaps in his memory whenever it activates). He can't control it in the moment, so he takes steps to preemptively push it down, to avoid the use of his abilities entirely, to hide himself away.

I talked a bit in a previous post about how there are probably several interrelated reasons for Vash's chronically avoidant behaviour, but I'd like to throw one more into the ring and suggest that it's not just a matter of not deserving to want things, but maybe also that he's afraid of wanting. That if he allows himself to even think about what he wants personally that he'll want too much, take too much, and that the only cure in his mind for this is to give and give repeatedly.

I wonder how starved he is for love. Vash loves hard, after all. Once he loves (and I’m not talking about the broad, distant love/compassion he has in general), for better or worse, he carries them around with him forever, long after they've passed. Does he feel like it'd be selfish to admit this kind of want? His love isn't really a passive thing after all - it's the drive at his very core; a mournful inferno he is just barely suppressing. Does he remember how to love in a way that doesn't consume him entirely?

Is that part of the reason he checks out at signs of intimacy? Diverts gifts towards others? Tends to accept kind gestures only when under an assumed name? Intentionally starves himself in Tristamp? Runs and runs and runs? Is he afraid he won't be able to stop hungering? That allowing himself to want means his want will become insatiable?

I just have to wonder how much of his avoidance of connection is being scared that he will cause more destruction (to them? or to him?) by trying to take far too much into his hands than he ever caused by turning his back and running.

...of course I may just be entirely deranged here sorry.

yes! that is definitely a scenario i would like to explore in the fic when i get to it. also why i want to write the fic with multiple different Y/Ns so we can explore different experiences and relationships with food

there is a "main Y/N" who is a glutton who likes to try anything and everything. i haven't done the research for it so i can't say whether or not they have an eating disorder, but they DO have an unhealthy relationship with food as a result of being shamed for their appetite. so that, coupled with their job that emphasizes appearances and first impressions, they eat smaller meals, seemingly healthier meals, safe meals. but when they're alone at the restaurant with the DCA boys, without having to worry about who sees them or how much they eat, they're able to enjoy their food openly and honour their body's cravings.

If Peter is part jumping spider then he should wave to people as threats!!!! Jumping spiders literally do the fake slit your throat thing with waves!!!!

His limbs should just randomly move weird. Like how a hyper motive person’s body might contract weird, his should do that. It’s trying to work like a spider(extend and then flex) but his human body Don’t work like that!!!

Also his super hearing? More like super vibrations! Through walls! He can hear things through walls! (He learns too much cause of it…)

He should get to move into the Wayne manner and immediately just make a clutter spot for him to nap in. He sleeps in the darkest parts of the house. He falls asleep in fresh laundry cause it’s warm. His room STINKS but he’s so happy about it…. It attracts flies and he’s even happier.
