Itsuki: wolves they think wolves are cool

Yurei: he absolutely loves dogs but Sho won't let her get another one and they're very sad about it

Enby: cats and dogs anytime they see a dog they always ask the owner if it's ok to pet the dog

i am once again sad about how demon combat works in-game so have a ramble about how my girls deal with demons

Neira deals with demons by carefully subduing/suppressing her emotions, making sure not to give demons a foothold, careful to minimise risks. She knows she is prone to being swayed in her emotions so she tries hard to stay controlled and neutral.

Lilian bets on her own willpower when confronting demons. While she is good at hiding emotions she is not good at controlling them, so instead she will try to lure and redirect it into the "opposite" (more like other side of the same coin) of the demon's nature. She greatly relies on what Justice teaches her about this since she hasn't really had to deal with this before coming to Kirkwall.

June purposely draws on the power from different emotions than what the demon(s) she is currently facing feeds on. June has a tendency to spiral to extremes with her emotions, but emotions are power in the Fade and so June capitalises on this. It may come with the risk of attracting that type of demons and makes fights against multiple at once risky, but also makes her formidable in areas with a thin veil (or near rifts/ while having the anchor/ within the fade)

35. How does each significant other view any exes and former relationships?

Liam/Fenris: Liam's the only one of them who's been in relationships growing up but it's a no-brainer, even when he still talks fondly of them. It's been 10+ years. He was a teenager. If anything Fenris might be a little bit envious that Liam is/was able to give out his heart so freely, that loving people comes so easily to him, but he is not jealous of Liam's past loves. He likes to joke that he pities them for having to put up with Liam though xd

Lilian/Isabela: Well, Lilian would love to put a knife through Bela's past husband's throat if that had not already been done. She's meet Zevran and likes him. Lilian's been in "relationships" before but also not really, not in a way where they would count as real exes. Either way it's a non-issue.

June/Cullen: June starts out thinking Cullen's old crush on Amell/Surana was disgusting, but ends up at "he was literally 19 and also never actually pursued anything, it's whatever". Cullen for his part is fine with June's Adventures TM with other people, he just doesn't want to hear about them in detail please (....except if it's in the context of something new for the two of them to try)

Ari/Josephine: I don't think lord Otranto counts lol but in any case Ari thinks he's a decent guy, they have no beef.

Neira - She's not a sword user exactly but while they were in Orzammar her companions insisted she get herself a proper quality melee weapon, right here, direct from Orzammar. Well crafted and durable - and enchanted by Sandal, of course!

Noya - Good old simple, reliable dagger. She keeps with her it, even after it's worn enough to not be of much use.

Lilian - Invests in a nice n proper sword after the Deep Roads. Utility is the first priority, but why not be a bit vain and make it fancy, while you're at it?

June - What's the point of a sword if it doesn't look sick and can hold magic runes?? Or, ideally, act as a staff substitute. Not like she has much use for a sword otherwise lol (except to feel cool)

For Bad: Is there anyone who had an undeniable negative impact on your OC’s life? How did your OC deal with that change? Have they been able to move on?

Yknow. every time i wanna write a name here i then go "but they kind of also did good in a roundabout way" lolol. People like Meredith and Quentin were definitely responsible for misery in her life but in the long rung they are kind of the ones that pushed her to be better? If that makes sense? Essentially, her way of dealing with it is taking whatever bad luck she has by the horns and trying to turn it around into something she can use. So that it doesn't feel like it was for nothing, and so she doesn't feel like life is spinning out of control (at least not entirely). I'm actually inclined to say Aveline was one with the most negative impact, in the sense that there was a lot more personal beef involved on top of Lilian having no (or very very little) positive associations with her.

Future: Is there anyone your OC is looking forward to meeting or to seeing again? Who? What might that meeting or reunion look like?

She writes with people more than she sees them post Kirkwall, but she always looks forward to seeing Carver (even if seeing the progressing taint makes her heart tighten), and of course Merrill and Gamma (doggo stays with Merrill as she gets older). Meeting up with Seb or Fenris is also always a treat.

Stillness, Wardrobe and Change, for Kala, Lilian, June and Ari! :3

Hiya, thanks for the ask! :D

stillness: How does your OC act while still? Are they fidgety? Do they have any common gestures or tics? Does their clothing affect how they hold themselves while at rest?

Kala: She's very still! It's a learned stillness, but even after coming to the surface it's something that stays with her. She doesn't fidget or shift much at all apart from the occasional stretch or repositioning, especially if she's wearing any sort of armour that would be loud when moving. Very practical for bird watching, she's found.

Lilian: Not super fidgety, but will do little stretches and roll her shoulders when still for a longer time. Cross/uncross her arms or tap her foot maybe. Will shift her weight onto her good leg if standing for long. Something she'll habitually do now and then is swishing back her hair or combing it aside with her fingers.

June: Very fidgety. Will tap her foot or finger, rock back and forth, readjust her position, all those sorts of things. She also has a habit of picking at scabs or pimples absentmindedly, or fiddling with a strand of hair. Even when forced to wear something specific for presentation purposes she tries to get something as unrestrictive as possible; she haaates when her movement gets restricted.

Ari: Fairly still, except if he is wearing something that is notably uncomfortable or has Icky Texture. Then he will involuntarily shift and tense every so often even though he tries to suppress it. His stance isn't influenced by clothing as much as it is by situation; he has a tendency to hunch down, but depending on the circumstances he will deliberately stand up very straight. Also often with his hands behind his back. Has a habit of rubbing his palm(s), and if he is outside, checking and possibly readjusting his garments. If he is sitting and focused or in thought he'll often tap the bottom of his chin or stroke the rim of his ear back and forth.

wardrobe: How big is your character's wardrobe? Do they wear things threadbare, or can they afford new clothes often? Are they any good at mending and repairing their own clothing?

Kala: Starts with very little clothing and a reluctance of buying new things, but comes to like having a small assortment to pick from. Still not that much, but enough to have a pick for different occasions and moods. Is very careful with her clothes so they last a long time, and will wear them for as long as she physically can. And she does repair them! Not super pretty, but enough to make them functional again.

Lilian: Likes having backups and a small assortment that she can pick from, but otherwise doesn't care much about having a big wardrobe. She too takes good care of her clothes and makes them last as long as she can.

June: Enjoys having a big wardrobe with very different types and styles of clothes to switch between, and especially after being so restricted in the circle she does not miss the chance to stock up on cool clothes once she has the chance to. Very bad at mending, but doesn't matter, she'll just wear them torn.

Ari: As Inquisitor he puts effort into having all sorts of different outfits for different occasions, but honestly if it were for him he'd have a full wardrobe full of multiple copies of the same clothes lol. Once he's found something he likes he's perfectly happy wearing the same thing all the time.

change: Has your OC ever drastically changed their appearance? Significant haircuts, big tattoos, complete wardrobe swap, etc? Why? How do they feel about the change?

Kala: The most significant one to her is probably growing out her facial hair, but refusing to let her hair grow long after going to the surface. I always think of hair & beards to have a lot of significance in Dwarven society, so both of those were "fuck you" moves at different times that she also kept because she liked them on her. She also started wearing much more colourful and technically-impractical clothing once she had the chance.

Lilian: Wearing the kaddis paint very deliberately after being appointed champion was an important decision to her. It's provocative and symbolic and becomes a trademark, so i think it counts even if it's not technically that drastic from a visual standpoint.

June: Nothing super drastic, i think? Except her hair changed colour! That was the anchor's fault <3 She wasn't fond of it at first but has come to like it a lot.

Ari: He rarely wears visibly Qunari clothes after becoming inquisitor, at least not publicly. Has no energy to provoke the public any more than necessary. Also started shaving his head at some point but idk yet when or why lol. Did it at some point and decided he liked it and kept doing it since.

👩 = What’s your muse’s relationship with their mother, what made it that way?

Liam: Oh man. They love each other. They really do. But from the outside looking in it's so easy to see that it is Not Working Out. We all know how Leandra's grief affects the way she treats her children, and Liam takes all of it to heart. He's trying so hard to live up to a standard that he is not supposed to, and it does not help that he naturally has a strong sense of responsibility and protectiveness over his loved ones. Leandra doesn't realise how much she is using Liam as a scapegoat, and he doesn't realise how much he is leaning into it. So yea, it's. A Mess.

Lilian: Is also messy, but she copes way, way better. It used to really get to her; she'd feel horrible whenever Leandra blamed her for anything, which at some point shifted into resentment, but ultimately mellowed out. She's come to a point where she is able to distance herself from her mother's words, and it has helped her to both feel better about herself and stop hating her mother. As a result they are not close, but at the same time less at odds than Leandra and Liam, if that makes sense? But there was love there, still. When Leandra died there were a bunch of complicated feelings there that Lilian didn't expect, part of which was her wishing that they could have fixed their relationship

👨 = What’s your muse’s relationship with their father, what made it that way?

Liam: While Liam was actually closer with his mom than his dad when he was younger, he adored his father, and Malcom in turn could never quite hide the soft spot he had for his eldest son. Which. Was not super extreme, but still obviously impacted the siblings' relationships. But n e ways; Liam spent more time with Leandra overall than he did with Malcom, but that just meant that he spent more "fun time" with his dad, and that definitely warped his perception as a kid. That, and the fact that Malcom was the one who would put on a smile and a relaxed attitude for the sake of his kids, much more so than Leandra did. He regrets that he wasn't properly disillusioned about it until after Malcom was gone

Lilian: She was a papa's girl, for sure. Her Malcom was more on the tough love side of things, but it wasn't because he was cold, it was because he was cautious. He was very aware of the risk his children, especially his mage children, were at, and their safety was his highest priority. Both parents had expectations, but for her, his both made more sense and were both much easier to meet, which meant growing up she got more approval from him than from Leandra and made her gravitate towards him. Kid Lilian idolised him, and some of that sentiment stayed, even as an adult. After Malcom passed Lilian was angry at him, for a while. It was easier to blame him, and it kept her from blaming herself (too much, anyway).

💕 = What are your muse’s thoughts on parenting and being a parent even if they aren’t one?

Liam: The thought of being a parent is a bit daunting, sure, but also wonderful. He's p much always wanted children of his own, in fact when he first realised he was bi his one worry was "if i end up with a man, i can't have children" (it wasn't a persisting worry bc ofc it doesn't rule out children, but it was an initial thought). And turns out, parenting is both more daunting and more wonderful than he'd thought and he would not trade Addie for anything.

Lilian: She and Bela do play pseudo moms for the stray children they sometimes pick up and take into their crew until they can stand on their own two feet, and she can't deny that she gets very attached to some of them. Actually having children of her own though? No thanks. She is hyper aware of the responsibility of parenting, of the mistakes her own parents have made, of the needs that would have to be met, and the thought of having children of her own and possibly fucking up an entire human being is way too scary.

Life

1.What region in Thedas were they born in? What was their hometown (and their home itself) like?

I'll admit i have not thought about the details of that much because it's just. Not That Important for them all things considered, and i wanna say it was p similar for both of them. Born Maybe near Amaranthine, maybe somewhere else and then moved there early? Then moved to Lothering in their early/mid teens when Bethany's magic manifested. Liam cared more about the move -- he gets attached to places, and change is harder for him to deal with.

Both villages were fairly small with tight-knit communities, and both of them socialised more than they probably should considering their family situation. I always imagine Hawke as a full on farmer country kid, but neither Leandra nor Malcom had any experience with that so i hc they only got one in Lothering, after they'd learned how farms Work lolol. The kids def still grew up around farmers and helping out in the neighbourhood as odd jobs before that though

2. Which companions (or advisors) are they closest friends with? Who do they respect?

Liam - Varric and Fenris are his closest friends, and he and Bethany were very tight as well. Aveline is considered family in his books and she has an almost older sister type of status to him. He got along very well with Isabela too - until she left.

He cares for Merrill a great deal, but it was a bit rocky for a long time bc he'd project onto her after Bethany's death, and while he meant well, he did not notice when he was getting patronising. He eventually realises though, and they grow closer after that.

Lilian - She and Isabela hit it off instantly, and grow close very fast. Same can be said for Merrill, and they're a very tight trio. She gets on very well with Sebastian as well, and is on good terms with Fenris, whom she shares a mutual respect with. Anders she used to have a good deal of respect for, and, in some ways, still has, but it's. Complicated.

4. Are there any companions (or advisors) they don’t get along with? Have any of them ever left the party?

Liam - Sebastian is somebody he Does Not vibe with. They get on okay enough; they hang out with the same gang obviously, so they spend a lot of time together, and they know they have each others backs. But they never did grow super close, because Seb really grates on Liam's nerves, and vice versa. Needless to say, his reaction to sparing Anders did Not help better their relationship.

And speaking of Anders, that relationship was more strained than most of the others. Liam does consider him a friend, and he worried for and cared about Anders as much as the others, but they simply do not mesh well on a personal level. Liam got frustrated with how Anders talked to and about some of their friends, and was uncomfortable with his.. not advances, but the way he'd get so weirdly pissy and jealous about his love life? For a long time that was the main cause of friction between them. Then when Anders does his Secret Plans TM and lies to his face about it, that's what really drives a wedge between them, because it cuts Liam pretty deep to be used like that by someone who he considers a friend.

Lilian - she has a. Very Antagonistic relationship with Aveline. It started out as mutual respect, but once Lilian stopped being passive, they quickly butted heads.

Varric is a friend, but she has a hard time respecting him, and gets frustrated especially towards the later years in Kirkwall due to his refusal to pick a side, or have any proper Opinions or Principles. She gets why he is Like That, but that doesn't change that he needs to stop staying in limbo.

Anders also has a big It's Complicated label again oops. She respects him and his abilities, and they have very similar goals, but as it tends to be among people with visions, the details on that vary greatly, and therefore made them clash quite a bit. She also could not stand his attitude, as much as she sympathised with him, and was very vocal about that. which did Not help ease the tension. For her too his stunt towards the end was what did it, because trust is a Big Thing for her, so him breaking it, especially after uh. the Isabela Incident, was the last straw (heh). There are. Various reasons why she ended up executing him, ranging from anger to understanding to perceived duty.

7. How did their relationship progress? If they’re a canon romance option, is their story different from the way the game presents it?

Liam - The relationship actually progresses the same in both timelines! At least until the breakup lol.

They both make a strong first impression on each other, and while they are initially cautious about the other (mainly bc of the mage thing), they are never outright hostile and actually get on pretty well very early.

I always take Fenris's "you're handsome" comment as the romance initiation lol, in the sense that Liam's reaction was basically "wait, you think so?? 😳" and that's when they established that mutual interest Is There, but they wanted to wait and see how things worked out between them first. So it was a very, Very slow burn, but it was a deliberate slow burn xd

I do shift things around on the timeline a bit bc imo the story beats in the romance don't make sense as they are in canon lol, so the point when they Actually get together is not the same as the breakup, there is some time between that, and then the time between that and them making up is a lot shorter as well. Because there is no way that after years of establishing a close friendship they will just let that go unresolved for years. They also do not immediately get back together as a couple after making up, nor do they plan to. They're really mostly trying to sort things out together, and that is a process. And in general they just. Communicate a lot more than they do in the game hjfsksdf.

The getting back together part is the first time where it splits, cos it hinges on whether Liam stays closed of and Gets Worse or lets himself open up again to Actually Heal after uh. Everything. And that impacts all his relationships, but becomes the most apparent through Fenris imo (and no this is not bc of "he can't be happy without a romantic partner" or bs like that, the romance (or lack thereof) is an effect here, and not a cause). It's important in the way that Liam gives the position of a romantic partner a lot of weight, and without it is missing an anchor and a support, on top of Everything Else. But i am getting sidetracked now jflskds.

N e way, they do stay very close friends regardless, and are important to each other regardless, and they love each other either way.

Obviously it starts diverting more in the postgame era but this is already way longer than planned so imma leave it here x'D
