the thing about labru vs kabumisu is that both of them have the same core appeal to me, specifically from kabru's side of things: kabru being someone who is constantly agonizing about social rules and putting on the right mask, and meeting this Weird Fucking Guy who does not (cannot) care about all those things, and so kabru slowly allows himself to be more genuine. they're both such good relationships (whether you view them romantically or platonically), why must there be so much hostility between enjoyers of these ships?

I understand personal preference and that some people just don't like ships with men, and that's ok! but I'm annoyed at the implication from some fans that labru has less depth as a relationship than farcille or any other wlw ship in dungeon meshi, and the idea that people are only shipping it as a joke, or because they're horny, or because they're misogynistic and don't want to look at female characters, etc etc. I've seen people call it like, "bloodlust obsession that turns to horniness" and it made me realize that the people who don't ship labru don't understand their dynamic at all. labru shippers didn't just pull this out of our asses lol

a lot of the story around kabru involves how he and laios are perfect opposites of eachother. NARRATIVE FOILS, if you will. everywhere kabru thrives (social interaction, charisma, the surface) laios completely fails. and everywhere that laios is most successful (in the dungeon against monsters) kabru keeps getting killed. not only that but their desires are mirrors of each other too: laios grew up bullied by humans and wanted to become a monster, kabru grew up dehumanized by his villagers and then the elves, so he wants to affirm his identity as a human being.

despite how kabru should be repulsed by laios due to his hatred of monsters, he's drawn to him instead. kabru spends the entire story trying to get to laios to talk to him and to get to know him. firstly he knows laios is closest to defeating the dungeon lord and needs to sus out if he's a good person, but he admits that he really wants to be friends with laios too, not just to determine his virtue but to see what value laios sees in monsters. he wants laios to share his interest in people, he wants laios to be interested in him back. kabru never had any true bloodlust or desire to kill laios, he was prepared to go that far if laios wasn't a good person, but once finding out that he has good intentions kabru spends all his energy trying to help laios instead. and when you consider that kabru spent his childhood believing he was half monster because of how he was ostracized in utaya, his curiosity about how laios could possibly love monsters feels so much more personal.

and for laios, he's not used to anyone taking an interest in him. people are constantly telling him he's weird, and the person he believed to be his best friend told him he couldn't stand him. he misses falin so dearly because she thinks he's the coolest man on earth, so meeting someone and being told "I hate monsters but I still want to know YOU" would have an impact on him, I think. in postcanon they become good friends, kabru becomes laios' right hand man to help him with more of the dicey social aspects of being a leader. laios asks him to stay by his side and help him, and kabru says "yeah, that's what I've been doing this whole time"

I wouldn't claim that a romantic relationship between them is CANON, but I wouldn't even say that about farcille either tbh (and I love farcille just as much so don't come for me lol) this isn't a comedy crackship that yaoi fans just made up. laios and kabru are really multi dimensional characters and they're made to reflect eachother in every way, even down to their physical design. so it's not out of nowhere that people ship them

Being a Mel Jayce and Viktor fan is so hard. Because why do so many of us hate eachother.

Specially with ships. I’m a multi shipper so personally I literally love meljay and Jayvik equally (I put Melvik on a pedestal tho) but it feels like I can’t enjoy any of them without seeing hate on the other.

I also just love all the characters apart or together. Mel is such a complex and interesting character. But enjoying her is difficult because the fandom views her as nothing but a pretty face. Liking Jayce is hard because he’s a very interesting character and lovable but the fandom HATES him. And refuse to even acknowledge the good parts of his character. And being a Viktor fan in hard (but definitely the easiest) because so many goddamn ablism jokes(seriously stop it’s WEIRD.) to add on many Viktor fans hate on my other two favs.

Not to start on how overlooked they are by the show itself. I know Jinx and Vi are the main characters but seriously. You can’t tell me giving Mel and Jayce with little screen time this act is okay. Not to mention the 0 marketing. and barely ANY merch.

Another one of my favorite ships in general and for Dan is Bad Humor (Dick x Dan) AKA First Failures (but I hate that name). I can write other stuff, but I hardkey don’t care for it.

My favorite ship for Dani is any combination between her and Kon or Tim, or all three of them together. However, I do also like her with Valerie lmao.

For Danny, I am a multi-shipper so I kind of don’t care that much? However, I prefer Dead Silent (Danny x Cass), Deadlight (Duke x Danny), or Gray Ghost (Danny x Valerie) over the others.

The only hard limit I have is Dead on Main, and any ship with Jason or Jazz that aren’t involved with each other (Talia is an exception with Jazz bc I love the idea of Damian being Jazz’s kid bc they’re my favorite characters). But for the most part, I’m okay with most ships :3

ok, so, this is my first time being in a big fandom that isn’t like dead, in a WHILE. Safe to say, I forgot how toxic and draining it can be. Like I’m just trying to enjoy things I like and hang out with people who just wanna vibe. But like all the mis-tagged posts and the yelling at each other (mostly over shipping) is just so tiring. I don’t post much, if at all, but like I just need to say something at this point.

I’m a shipper. I love shipping. But omg can we stop trying to kill each other!? Like maybe it’s cause I’m a multi-shipper, but like Ive never understood shipping wars or hating on other ships. For example I don’t like Zaundads (nothing against Zaundads shippers), it’s not my thing, I personally see them as brothers because they are meant to be parallels for Vi and Jinx. But that doesn’t mean I go out of my way to bother Zaundads shippers when they’re doing nothing but enjoying their ship!! Like I was happy for them that they got more content in 2x07! And if for whatever reason you really just CANT..just block it…don’t make that someone else’s problem…?

And the Christian Linke thing. I will admit, at first I was heated too. As an ace person who’s favorite ship is MelJayVik (at first just JayVik but the pipeline swallowed me lol) I didn’t like that part of my identity was being used to invalidate or villainize something I like. However, looking more into the situation has calmed me down a bit, especially seeing how aggressive people are being. Yes, I think Viktor being ace was implemented weirdly and could’ve been handled better. But that doesn’t make Christian some spiteful, evil, homophobic, SoB. Like…could he have revealed it sooner or made it more upfront in the show? Sure. But I think treating him like the devil for that discredits how important he was to the making of Arcane and how hard he fought it in the first place. Like it’s fine to be mad at him, or disagree but, remember, he’s just a guy. A person; we can very easily forget that online.

It just feels like every time I show up to this fandom, I’ll be happy one minute and grimacing as people argue the next. Like I know one post from a rando who never posts anything isn’t gonna stop fandom toxicity. But like can we just all chill out for a minute and think about what you’re arguing about. We all love this show…so why are we yelling at each other..we are the same thing different font fr fr lol. Like I’m just tired at people yelling at each other for…having a good time..? Enjoying what they enjoy…? Existing?

Being a marvel fan means you kinda just have to be a multi shipper, especially with x men and their five million different timelines and shows. I love scogan but I hate it in x men evolution because scott is 17 in that show for the first few seasons.

I have to say, the prongsfoot part of the fandom makes me feel sad and unwelcome more often than not. It's extremely frustrating because, at the moment, prongsfoot are my OTP, and I'd love to write about them more, but this attitude completely spoils my enjoyment of the ship.

And I do try my best to promote them wherever I can, so I'm not just whining. I wish they had more content and that the fandom is blind to their potential. I write fics. Talk about them on Tiktok/Reddit/Discord/Instagram - freaking everywhere, I'm chronically online, okay?

But the problem is, I came into the fandom shipping Jegulus and don't intend to stop dissing the ship because a) I still love them, b) it'd be hypocritical of me. (Looking back, I'm not happy with some of my fics and James/Regulus/Sirius' characterization in them, but that's a different issue.)

I quickly learned that shipping Jegulus is something the Prongsfoot corner of the fandom doesn't tolerate. When I bring it up, the reactions vary, of course, I don't want to generalize, but I got unpleasant attitudes from various members of the community, got chased out of prongsfoot discord, and I'm generally afraid to engage with other prongsfoot shippers because of this awful, horrible secret (being a multi-shipper). I swear shipping incest would go over better than shipping jegulus.

There's a lot of hate toward shippers of the more popular ships like Wolfstar and Jegulus, and while I can sort of understand it if I squint, I consider shipping wars stupid and think that if prongsfoot folks were maybe a little bit more open and welcoming, more people would be willing to interact with the ship.

(I've heard about the same experience from others, so I'm not that special, lol.)

And while Jegulus shippers get a lot of flak for being the worst, they've been wonderfully open-minded in my case. Some of them took a chance on my prongsfoot fics and loved them. Some of them might've unsubscribed quietly when I started writing for prongsfoot, which is their right, but they didn't give me any grief over it. Maybe I was extraordinarily lucky. No idea. But that's my experience.

Pretty sure this post is going to alienate me even further, but this has been eating at me for some time and often made me question whether I want to continue adding content for the ship under these circumstances.

Anyway, TL;DR. Ship and let ship. Fandom should be fun. The world is awful enough, let's all be nicer to one another?
