Legacy of Kain is an incredibly tightly-written series (for the most part). If you want to make a divergence, sequel, spinoff, or whatever feel believable, you've gotta manage at least, like, forty different events all at once. 'Cause if there's one thing being obsessed with a comparably short piece of media will do to you, it's knowing the entire thing back to front. If you try to pull off something wonky, everyone's gonna notice.

Which is fine.

If that's the point.

Harmless little oneshot fluff fics aren't usually gonna get picked apart because they're not meant to be taken that seriously in the first place. But if you intend to write a stone-cold epic, you'd better make sure you have all your ducks in order. Otherwise you're gonna run into problems very quickly.

This isn't a problem with the fandom itself, mind you. You could post a little blue stickman drawn in crayon and everyone would go freaking nuts!

It's about the frickin' time travel, man.

Anyway, point being: I've been burned out on basically everything recently, so I wanted to try my hand at churning out a few more chapters of Limbo Shepherds.

And woweeeee, the imposter syndrome is hitting haaaaaarrrd~

I suck at characterization. That's not self-pity. I think I'm fantastic at description.

...but the details of a room's furniture means boo when the series you're writing for is all about characterization.

Long story short, I'm having a severe fit of imposter syndrome now that I've gotten the fluff out of my system and am faced with turning my (very self-indulgent) mushiness into an actual plot.

But if I think about it for more than two seconds, I'm really just afraid of not doing LoK's character depth justice.

There's a ton of talented fan writers in the community, and all their takes on the characters are enchanting to read. It's fascinating to see which facets people choose to highlight or tinker with.

Buuuuut, this is the first time I've attempted writing my own fanfic.

Ever.

14-year-old me genuinely thought it was illegal, but that's a whole other can of worms.

I'm suddenly feeling very overwhelmed and inadequate. I have an idea of where I want to go, but every time I turn around, there's some new objection to tackle.

I've inadvertently put this massive task upon myself by just going "hey! let's turn this fluff fic into an actual fix-it narrative where everyone survives lol". And I hate myself for it :D
