31 (I’ll take that bet) &/or 24 (“They said you were so cute!” “That’s not what I said.”) I went with "I'll take that bet" and used it as an excuse to further my "Tim and Steph's relationship is so much more important to me now that it's not endgame" agenda*

Steph considers him with narrowed eyes across the table in their favourite coffee shop. “I don’t think you mean it.”

“I do!” Tim insists, and takes a sip of his latte. “I promise to make a pact that we should both ask our crushes out in one week’s time, or we have to do a forfeit task as decided by the winner.”

“Okay, but what are you gonna do when I’m the winner and my forfeit task is to tell you that you absolutely must, no prevarication or equivocation, ask Conner out within three business days,” Steph replies.

“Well, first off,” Tim says. “I don’t think you’ll actually do it, and so my forfeit task will be to tell you that you have three business days to ask Cass out.”

There’s silence in their corner of the coffee shop while they both take sips of their drinks.

“God, what are we gonna do if they say no?” Steph asks with a small, self-deprecating smile that Tim hates to see.

“She won’t,” he promises. It’s not that Cass is his closest sibling, the one he knows best, the one whose answer he can more or less guarantee. That’s still definitely Dick and probably always will be. But he does know Cass, and he knows Steph, and he knows what people like him see in people like Steph, and he genuinely can’t imagine a future where Cass turns Steph down.

“What if they’re straight though?” Steph asks, and takes a sip of her chai latte, giving Tim a flash of big blue eyes of doubt over the rim of the oversized mug.

Tim… honestly hasn’t considered the possibility.

“They’re not,” he says, and actually feels the confidence in his own words. “But even if they are, they’re allies so they won’t be assholes about it. The bet is just that we’ll ask our crushes out, and is not dependent on them saying yes.”

Steph hums, thinking about it, and takes a sip. It gives her a foam moustache and a Tim of even six months prior would’ve leaned across the table to kiss it off for her. But as much as he loves Steph — and he does, he still does, and he always will — it’s not… like that anymore. It makes him want a better designation than just “best friend.” Because, like, Steph absolutely is one of his best friends, and to date, she’s the only person in that category (generally well populated, because he doesn’t think most people have more than one person there, let alone three to five) who he’s also slept with. He wants some sort of designation that says, “Yeah, she’s my best friend, and sure we’ve had sex, and yes, absolutely I would burn down the multiverse for her, but like. We’re never gonna get married. And we’ve moved past the point of romance, and we’re just…”

But they don’t have that word in English, or in any language Tim knows. Steph is just his… most-person, and even if he has to abase himself in a public forum to get it to happen, he’s going to get her the girlfriend she deserves. That the girlfriend Steph both deserves and wants is Tim’s sister and will succinctly place Steph within their family sphere where she belongs forever is not technically an aspect of the bet, but is a positive side effect.

“Okay,” Steph says, lowering her mug to the table and extending her hand Tim’s direction. “One week, we’ll meet back here, and whichever of us hasn’t asked our crush out has to undertake the winner’s challenge.”

“I will take that bet,” Tim agrees, and shakes her hand. Steph nods, and Tim nods, and they spend a moment trying to intimidation-squeeze each other’s hands, and then collapse into mutual giggles and return to their drinks. Tim has residual anxiety bouncing around his chest, knocking against the insides of his ribs, and from the jittery way Steph eventually lifts her mug and takes her next sip, he thinks she does too.

Because these aren’t… well. They’re crushes, sure, that they’re both talking about: they’re people where the thought of their returned affection makes their insides feel squished and crushed down to insignificant shreds, because the point is the other person’s happiness. And maybe it’s hubris and arrogance to assume that they are the person best suited to provide happiness to their respective crushes, but…

But, well. Hope springs eternal.

Tim shakes Steph’s hand and he takes the bet, and he finishes his latte and he means to seek out Superboy immediately, to find Kon and ask him, hey, would you ever consider perhaps… a date? With me? And then there’s a whole thing with like a Doomsday clone and the entire Superfam being on high alert and having no use for powerless heroes like Tim or the entire Batfam save Duke, and, well.

A week goes by. Without Tim meaning it to. Because Gotham’s had it’s own shit (has there ever been a week in modern history where Gotham hasn’t had it’s own problems?) and then without warning, it’s Sunday, and the closest he’s gotten to Kon is a hackneyed text conversation, and he’s sitting down at the café table across from Steph who’s fucking glowing, and…

“She said yes, huh?” Tim guesses, and it genuinely makes him feel warm inside like someone’s replaced his vitreous humours with the radioactive-looking contents of a lava lamp, and it’s everything he’s wanted for Steph — and for Cass, however much he does his best to stay the hell out of his siblings’ love lives — and Steph blushes bright red and hides her smile in the foam of her latte.

“Yeah,” Steph says, and utterly fails to hide her delight. “Not so much ‘yes’ to a date as like. We’re girlfriends now.”

“Good,” Tim says, and he means it with his whole heart.

Steph laughs, and grins, and has to pause to wipe a few drips from her eyes. And Tim gets it. These aren’t just crushes they’ve been talking about. These are the people who are their endgame-(if the universe gets rewritten please return to:)-type love stories.

“So I guess I get to pick the winner’s challenge,” Steph says, sniffing and taking a drink of her latte.

“I want you to know, I would’ve asked Kon out already if not for the whole everything they’ve had going on in Metropolis this week,” Tim says.

“Oh, I know,” Steph assures him. “Which is why I booked you guys dinner in Philly, outside both Gotham and Metropolis zones of bullshit nonsense.”

“Yeah,” Tim says. “Okay.”

Steph grins at him, and the next time he sees her, so does Cass, and when their dinner reservation comes up two days later, so does Kon.

“Quick question,” Tim says, grinning at him when they meet up outside the restaurant Steph had picked. It’s a sushi bar, because she knows Tim likes showing off his dexterity with chopsticks, and because she knows Kon well enough to know he’s proud of being the one, solitary Midwesterner in the Superfam who isn’t cowed by the heat of wasabi. “Do you want to go on a date with me?”

Kon frowns at him while they wait in the vestibule for their reservation, the furrow in his brow casting a delicious shadow over his deep blue eyes, and the Super-red velvet blazer he’s wearing.

“Isn’t this already a date?” Kon asks.

Tim grins, and threads his hand into Kon’s hair to pull him down into a kiss, which Kon goes along with and accepts with a slight purr Tim intends to explore later.

“Yeah, I just… had to make sure, so I didn’t lose the bet fully,” Tim explains.

“This is a bet?” Kon asks, resting his hands at the slight dip in Tim’s waist.

“Not a real one with rom-com consequences like, I dunno, She’s All That, or whatever,” Tim promises. “Just that I failed to ask you out before Steph asked Cass out, and so my punishment was to go on a date with the guy I liked.”

Kon squints down at him, and it lasts long enough Tim has a moment to wonder about his success at this particular situation, even though Kon’s already been okay with kissing him.

“You and Steph have a weird relationship,” Kon informs him, and before Tim can protest, he leans down to kiss him again, entirely on his own volition. “I’m glad.”

Tim grins against Kon’s mouth and is almost ungrateful when the maître’ d tells them he has a place for them to sit. They follow the host into the dark blue-and-black lit restaurant, and accept their pot of tea, and Tim finds himself looking from his menu to Kon’s face. Back and forth like his neck’s on a swivel.

“Glad we have a weird relationship like you’ll… be my boyfriend?” Tim asks.

It takes Kon a beat to look up from his own menu, but when he does it’s with a grin that’s sunshiney enough to overwhelm the entire restaurant, whether or not they realise an actual member of the Superfam — and not just the fam, but specifically a Kryptonian — is responsible.

“Yeah,” Kon says, and leans across their table to press a quick kiss to Tim’s lips. “I will definitely be your boyfriend.”

And, frankly? Tim thinks while he grins down at his menu. Who needs bets anyway? At least when you’re betting on a sure thing?

Jondami's son, also flying beside Bruce's other side: No, l shall do it, Grandfather!

Timkon's son: I was here first!

Jondami's son, rolls his eyes: You're slow for a Kryptonian.

Bruce: Boys, no need to-

then they both fly around the house to find Bruce's glasses.

Bruce, sighs and smiles: What am I but an old man.

Bruce is currently (trying) to make some pancakes, and the kitchen is a huge mess.

Birdflash's son: Uh. I take it back, Grandpa, two pancakes are enough for me, not ten.

Dukeizzy's daughter: We could have helped you, Grandpa. Now, Great Grandpa Alfie will not be happy.

Bruce, turns to his grandkids who are by the door: He's going to kick our butts, huh?

both of the kids nod.

Bruce: Well, how about some pizza?

Birdflash's son: I'll buy, I'll buy!

Dukeizzy's daughter: Take me, please.

Bruce, hands them money: Be careful, okay?

but they're gone already by the time Bruce blinks.

Bruce, shakes his head fondly: Speedsters, am I right?

Gotham newspaper headlines goes: "Batman seen with young heroes on rooftop. Is Batman leading the group? Young Justice League or Kids Titans?"

it's basically just Batman with a young speester wearing a Kid Flash suit but with Nightwing's domino mask, Lian in a Speedy suit, Tim and Kon's son in a Superboy suit, Steph and Cass' daughter in a Batgirl suit, Duke and Izzy's daughter and Damian and Jon's son in Robin suits.

and it's just all of them enjoying some Batburgers while their parents are lurking behind the shadows to witness the scene.

Generally I think any pairing with YJ98 is amazing and filled with so much chemistry but I am particularly partial to TimKon (I’m sorry but attempting to clone him and continuing to after multiple failed attempts can’t be considered 100% strictly platonic anymore guys [not even mentioning all the other things these guys have done]) and recently I’ve been seeing some TimBart which I haven’t thought about much yet but they are very cute I think !!

Then there’s TimBern of course!! I’ve heard a lot of people talking about how Bernard is barely a character and is too boring but honestly I love him he is such a nerd with his conspiracy shenanigans and I think he’s a perfect character for Tim.

TimSteph I think is better left as Ex-bf-gf-now-high-key-insufferable-friends-who-are-very-close-with-eachother. Also with StephCass and TimKon in mind I think it’s very funny that Steph has dated Tim and Cass has dated Kon. (I don’t remember what comic that happened in but it def did I’m not insane I promise)

And then there is of course queer platonic YJ98 which brings me much joy and then the polyamorous options !! Such as, once again YJ98 and also TimKonBern which I personally think fixes a lot of the issues people have with either pairing and I also think the identity shenanigans would become 10x funnier adding another hero individual to the mix where Tim was already high key sucking at hiding vigilante stuff from the theorist ever Bernard.

It's been bugging me for a while that we have so many canonically queer characters now but none of them ever DO anything! It's like after they get two characters in a queer relationship they just never give them any conflict after. We didn't ask for more representation because we wanted that character to no longer have interesting stories outside of a queer identity we wanted you to stop queer baiting us.

I know that word gets tossed around a lot, but there is very strong evidence for TimKon, StephCass, and GhostBat where they practically confirm it but they never say anything explicitly. Supersons were literally shown to live together, co-parent Lizzie, and were explicitly paralleling other canon couples last week.

But it's too much for Kon AND Tim to be queer, so they gave Tim a civilian boyfriend that he never has any conflict with and all of the build up and tension that comes with trying to clone your dead teammate 99 times and being a hair away from making out for like 8 years.

Robin AND Super boy couldn't be canonically queer so they aged Jon up and then gave him a civilian boyfriend he never has any conflict with all while parading them around in elseworlds because they knew fans were upset about the lost potential.

Even Harley and Ivy fall victim to this in a different way. I love that they're canonically queer! I just wish that at least Ivy got to keep some of her villainy. I don't think they should have to compromise being menaces to society with being queer.

And it's related but I hesitate to call it queer baiting... what's going on with Dick Grayson. He gets confirmed bi in a non canon video game but he has more pride covers than Tim. Like you can't dangle an extremely queer coded character in front of us and then just never make it canon. And I'm tired of one off implications too. We deserve better representation than a one liner played off for a joke (Batstantine this is about you I fear) but they won't because they know full well they won't do a damn thing with him after.

You wanna know what we should be striving for? Midnighter and Apollo. Messy their whole run time, uncompromisingly interesting whether they're together or not, happily married with a daughter, and yet continued to be unerringly bad ass. John Constantine, with all of his shameless flirting and raunchiness. Grace Choi and Anissa Pierce. The pining, the break ups, the make ups. Obsessed with them.

Joey Wilson!!! You want someone whose already canonically queer who Dick has a lot of tension with? He's right there! The son of Dick's arch Nemesis. Both of their willingness to go over people's heads to protect them. Joey's ability to completely take someone's free will (and his deliberate and spiteful choice not to) vs. Dick's constant fight for independence (and his willing surrender to the pull of his family). Dick's unwillingness to communicate his feelings or experiences with literally anyone ever paired with Joey's uncanny ability to read him like a book. Are you joking. The mess, the tension, the INTRIGUE!!

This got away from me but I want my queer characters to be interesting again pretty please.

That sudden inexplicable urge to write a next gen batfam fic with TimKon clone babies (MULTIPLE), JayRoy babies (Lian + other kids they took in frm the streets), BirdFlash kids (MORE ADOPTION), DukeIzzy's lil baby, StephCass's adopted babies and/or they find Steph’s baby again, and DamiJon asking Tim to help clone them

And Bruce being that awesome grandad who can't help but give in to his kids' every wish. Like literally. You want a candy? Have three. You want an XBOX? Bruce bought the whole company. You want a life-size Barbie dream house? BAM it's yours now and your parents are freaking out

AND to make it even better, TimBerKon. First baby is Tim and Kon's, made during that time when Kon died, second one is Bern and Kon's, made a few years into their relationship. I just think that'd be neat yk

for Dick... it's a tie between Wally and Kory. Kory because I grew up watching Teen Titans, and Wally because of the Young Justice TV show

I personally view Jason as on the Aro/Ace spectrum, but if I had to chose a ship, it would be JayKyle-- BUT IN THE SENSE THAT Kyle somehow develops a crush on Jason and Jason is completely oblivious to it and thinks that he and Kyle just have a banter-y friendship

for Tim it has to be TimKon. I think Timber's kinda just genderbent TimSteph, and I'm not a fan of TimSteph because Stephanie Brown deserves so much better

I think I would like StephCass in theory, but I feel like even though it is heavily implied in comics, the only place I've seen it done is in fandom where both characters are treated like background props, and it made me feel icky. I think once Cass stops being perceived as a therapy doll, and Stephanie starts being treated as her own character rather than just a love interest to one of the batfam members then I can start enjoying the ship.

I'm pretty sure Duke has only has one Love interest, Isabella, and they were cute together

I'm not a big fan of most of Damian's ships, but him and Flatline are cute together, but I think they have more of a puppy love middle school type relationship going on.

"and yet we persist" is stoic, long-suffering, and straightforward enough it makes me want to subvert it somehow, so therefore i posit: this is the fic of tim, steph, cass, and kon having to undergo a multi-day roadtrip, for some reason. (why can't kon just fly them wherever they need to go? idk but let's assume i came up with a reasonable justification. the point is they need to all be trapped in a car together, for several hours on end, for a few days.)

tim and steph are in their divorce era. kon and cass are their usual cozy "very affectionate friends who understand each other really well" selves. timkon and stephcass are both in their mutual pining/late-stage slow burn phases.

what this means: most of the roadtrip is tolerable! even when tim and steph are unhappy with each other, they know how to get along. most of the time. the exception is when one or the other says something unnecessarily bitchy, the other goes "oh are you fucking serious don't fucking start right now--", and then tim is bitching while driving and steph is furiously kicking the back of the drivers seat just because she knows it'll piss him off if she gets scuff marks on the leather. kon, shotgun, twists around to start talking to cass very pointedly about each song on his wendy/pierce playlist, because he's recently gotten her into wendy the werewolf stalker. tim and steph are bickering. and yet, kon and cass persist.

at one point the arguing starts at a gas station while tim is filling the tank. steph leans out the window and asks something. tim gets snippy, steph gets snippy back, and 15 minutes later when they're still at it, kon and cass have run out of interesting things to look at in the gas station mini mart. and yet... they persist...

they stop at a motel one night. tim meets steph at the vending machines when she's coming to get some ice and he's trying to get a zesti (and mad because apparently this far from gotham, they don't carry them?). they don't fight, they just kind of awkwardly nod to each other like sooo... are we good? yeah i guess. ok well you don't have to sound so put out about it. oh don't start this again. but they both freeze when cass opens the door for her and steph's room, crosses the hall, and knocks on tim and kon's door. kon lets her slip inside. she's dressed for bed already. tim and steph both freeze. did tim just get sexiled? fuck. of course steph will let him hang out in her room but this can't be happening. surely not. they're in dismay. and yet... they persist...

meanwhile kon and cass are happily snuggled up together watching season 3 of wendy. when tim doesn't come back they both kinda go "uhhh.... did he and steph... surely not." and decide not to think about it. it's fine.

it's a miserable roadtrip but it's funny as fuck. do you see my vision

I just need to get this off my chest for the world to see and I don’t want to get cancelled so I’m sharing it with you:

I ship superbat, timkon and damijon and in my ideal world they all happen in the same universe around the same time because I want the most awkward family dinner in existence. I want them all to be avoiding eye contact, contemplating how worth it would be to just kill themselves right here and now.

Better yet, this terrible family dinner is where both StephCass and JayDick get caught being in secret relationships because Damian caught one pair before dinner in Bruce’s office and gave the most unholy shriek imaginable that it was impossible to hide and the other Bruce catches in hooking up in the bathroom and makes it very, very known to everyone and so this is just a terrible family dinner where everyone wants to die of shame for various reasons

So yeah my dream is just for some of my various ships to be together so I can have the most miserable, psychologically damaging meal imaginable

I think it would be funny

I don´t mean this in an antagonistic way but why would you think this could get you cancelled? A fic with a similar premises (various characters sit together at dinner and the relationships all come up in more or less embarrassing ways) pops up every other week if not more often.

It's a cute and funny premise and I think you should give a try writing it if it's your kinda thing. I suggest you split the conversation in little "pockets" so you don't get overwhelmed, and then you link them together cohesively.

What ships do you like with all the Bats?

So starting with Bruce, my fav ship for him is probably batcat. I just think they're cute and she's a great character. But superbat and superwonderbat do have their appeal - again I'll say my main problem with this is I literally cannot picture a Clark who isn't in love with Lois, but polyamory fixes this for the most part in theory. In practice anytime I've read anything superbat either Clark has been gay or clois aren't together for some reason and it always low-key throws me off

As for Dick there aren't many people I don't ship him with it honestly? Certainly I can work with any ship that's even sort of mainstream. So birdflash, dickbabs, dickory, dickroy, etc. As long as it's not incest or Slade Wilson, I could conceivably go for it

For Jason I'm basically strictly JayRoy and joyfire, with the occasional jaytemis thrown in there. Idk I don't vibe with most of his canon love interests

Tim's a canon bicycle honestly but uh timkon obviously, timber, timsteph, timberkon, timpulse, timbartkon, core four as a ship, I can and have vibed with all of them in fic

We've already covered timsteph but obviously I also like stephcass!! Beyond that I honestly don't know enough about Cass or Steph to ship them with anybody else tho. I know Cass has gone on a couple of dates with Kon and that's a no from me but beyond that I have nothing. If they have insane chemistry with other characters please send the relevant panels my way!

Damian's still a bby for real he's 14 but damijon is literally so obvious and it helps that poisonivory has written some really good fic for them

Again I don't know enough about Duke's supporting cast to ship him with anyone, let me know if there's anyone notable

Kate deserves better than dating a cop but I have no opinion on her girlfriends beyond that

O- Song is Bubble Pop Electric by Gwen Stefani, it is very Birdflash or really any speedster ship to me, very nice bouncy beat reminds me of Bart also

P- AU: Canary Tim - I’ll elaborate on this bc it is one of my aus and is kind of the reason that some of my second gen bat ocs exist so it’s kind of relevant.

First Black Canary - Dinah Drake. Married Larry Lance, daughter was Dinah Lance, who became the next Black Canary. Do you see where I’m going with this. Tim Drake. Dinah Drake. There’s a very weak connection there technically so I just made Dinah his aunt. Based off of Dinah Drake and Dinah Lance, we can assume the canary meta gene is hereditary, ergo we’ll just send it Tim’s way as well.

He won’t have his activated until his late teens though bc I want him to have atrocious voice control for a good while so he gets shipped off to train with Black Canary until he won’t accidentally deafen everyone around him.

From there, he’ll graduate Robin to become some kind of Songbird. It was originally going to be Galah (bc pink) but I changed it to Blackbird so his kids could call him B and it would be very emotional for Bruce to watch history repeat itself with the nickname and whatnot. Also this way tim gets to keep his red black and gold colour scheme.

that’s the au part but the part where my oc Jasper couldn’t really exist outside of this au is bc he’s a meta with a voice ability, that’s similar to the Canary meta gene but he’s not related to any of them. He’s Australian so he travels to America to look for Black Canary. He can’t find her, he keeps on missing her by like a handful of minutes or hours, but he does find Tim, and at this point he’s fed up of looking for Dinah and settles for the 19-year-old Blackbird in front of him. Tim, who only really got control of his powers around two weeks ago, chooses not to mention his inexperience and accepts that he’s a dad now

Q- hate to say it but I don’t really ship stephCass. I used to, but I hc Cass as older by a bit too much for me to comfortable shipping them in my own au yknow? I wouldn’t say I’ve abandoned them completely though, but the only other ships I really could have put here were ones where I saw art of them, thought it looked sort of cute and then found out they were pro ship, so uh

anyways I think they are cute and would absolutely celebrate if they were made canon but it’s not really for me is all

R- hmmmm. Well I’ll start off with one that I think very few people ship. Steph and Bailey, who has one appearance in the Robin/Spoiler Annual. And I know I’m not the only one bc I’m pretty sure it was @aliteralchicken’s blog where I saw them for the first time, if not whoops

I also have a lot of Janet Drake ships bc I love her and given that most people do not love her I think it’s safe to say that Janet x Selina, Janet x Talia and Janet x Dana aren’t exactly popular ships

I’m trying to think of an m/m ship bc sapphic ships are hard to come by anyways, I’m thinking Bart x Preston but that’s mostly bc I haven’t really been looking for content of them so that would make them seem like a rare pair

oh also Darla Aquista/Laura Fell and Ariana Dzerchenko. Idk I think they’d be cute, and Ariana could really only upgrade from Tim let’s be honest

I’ve never seen Jim/Bruce before but I’m so up for it. I’m a multishipper at heart!

I think my brain is goin in a slightly different direction with what roles i would give to which characters, but i love both ideas honestly. Like, instead of jason, tim, ives & bernard being the four kids, what if it was the young justice guys? Tim, Kon, Bart & Cassie? And the reason they get involved with Jason going missing is because hes Tims brother and they wanna help find him. And then we can also have TimKon as Byler! I do love Steph as Max tho, I think thats perfect. And obviously Tim and Cass wouldn't date... maybe instead of El/Mike it'd be Kon/Cass? becase I think they were canon at some point... and then TimSteph, but both those guys break up eventually and then StephCass and TimKon happen! Like Byler and Elmax!

Also i was thinking about how it's quite intrinsic to Bruce's character that he's a billionarie, so how would you work that in? Would it be possible for stranger things to be set in a city like Gotham rather than a small town, or would we just have to change how Bruce is to fit the story? I'm curious. Also how did Bruce end up with all the kids in this situation? I mean Cass is obvious, and Damian, but what about the others?

I love the idea of Damian being Erica! theyre both suitably bratty lmao.

Also, who would be Papa? David Cain? Ra's? Maybe Damian could also be of the lab kids. And what would Cass' powers be? The same as El, or different?

I'm thinking Leauge of Assasins = Hawkins Lab? Because that would also make sense with them being the ones that make everyone think that Jason is dead.

Oh and! As Steph is Max, whould Billy be Cluemaster? As Steph doesn't have a bio older brother, and I think Arthur would fit that roll quite well.

Batman Stranger Things AU (not sure if anyone did this before but it just fits so well together!!)

Jason Todd as Will Byers and Tim Drake as Mike Wheeler, them being friends and playing dnd with Ives and occasionally Ariana, his disappearance kick-starting the story.

Bruce is obviously Joyce, almost driven insane by Jason's disappearance while Dick is Jonathan, who eventually teams up with Helena – Tim's sister figure that somehow got dragged into this mess – to figure out what's happening.

Cassandra Cain as Eleven, Tim finding her in the woods and bringing her back to her home and hiding her from his parents (they're siblings your honour)

Stephanie is soo Max, entering the story after a lot of things have already happened and having to brute force her way in the secret, meeting a lot of pushback from Tim at first, and a lot of hostily by Cass but eventually becoming her best friend (the three of them are soo doomed)

It just works, has anyone written about it ?

She's hilarious and knows how to have a good time and if someone fucked with her chosen family, she wouldn't hesitate to give them a black eye.

I think it’d be a slap in the face to make StephCass canon over Timkon since way more people know and care about Timkon and their relationship is well known among almost every comicbook fan while the implications of StephCass’ relationship is unknown. I only say this Bc DC is so conservative that we would only get one or the other as canon

I personally feel like ‘slap in the face’ is a strong term here, but I definitely understand how it would be frustrating, since Timkon does have a longer established history and is more well known (although Stephcass does also have... a decent amount of stuff between them too. it’s just Cass was introduced later and then the two of them got treated like shit by DC [evil cass arc... killing steph... etc] so it’s definitely flown a bit more under the radar. but like... Cass as she was dying hallucinated/dreamed Steph being there to hold her twice, it’s not like that ship doesn’t have a big basis too)

I also agree that if one happened the other one likely wouldn’t at least not for a long time, because both pairings would include making two previously established as straight teen characters now lgbt in some way and entering a relationship, which is definitely like, a move DC hasn’t made frequently before. (particularly not with their teen characters)

But... Steph and Cass both have gotten such poor treatment by DC and shoved off into the corner for a long time, and doing something like that with them would definitely boost their presence and maybe let them have some of the spotlight they deserve to have. Hell, if Steph & Cass had been treated better by DC in the first place then maybe they would have the same level of notoriety that Timkon has, ya know?

It doesn’t have to be a competition I guess is what I’m trying to get at. Like it sucks DC prob wouldn’t have both happen, but if they do become canon and I end up seeing people tear down two really good female characters (who have constantly been shafted and mistreated by DC) just because they got something some fans instead wanted for two male characters (who while not as much in the spotlight these days have been incredibly popular in the past, both have had over 100 solo issues each, and definitely been treated better overall by the company) then i’ll be annoyed. You can have a preference for one without treating the other like it’s less worthy.

And personally I absolutely love both pairings! But if one becomes canon and the other doesn’t, tearing the one that did get it down because you wish it was the other just... strikes me as in poor taste. I’m also not saying that’s what you’re doing here, but calling it a ‘slap in the face’ can kinda... easily lead into that way of thinking. Either one happening would be really cool and significant.
